You can honor patriotic and hardworking animals on Labor Day, especially those who have served alongside Americans. Symbolic and historically significant animals to consider include:
Bald eagle - As the national emblem of the United States, the bald eagle represents strength, freedom, and courage. Its presence on the national seal is a testament to its symbolic importance to the country.
Horses -Horses have a long history of working with humans to build America and serve the nation.

• Military funeral horses: In the American military, a riderless horse with boots reversed in the stirrups is a famous tradition in full-honors funerals. Black Jack, the last Quartermaster-issue horse, participated in the funerals of Presidents John F. Kennedy, Herbert Hoover, and Lyndon B. Johnson.
• Mustangs: Descendants of horses brought to the continent by Spanish explorers, wild mustangs symbolize the endurance, speed, and free spirit admired by Americans.
• Pony Express horses: These horses were pioneers in communication, delivering mail across the American frontier during the 1860s and demonstrating incredible stamina.
• Police horses: Horses like those in the NYPD's mounted unit continue to assist with patrolling and protecting the country's most populated areas

Dogs  -Dogs have served in many capacities throughout American history, from aiding military forces to providing essential assistance in daily life. 

• Military and police dogs: K-9s have assisted U.S. Marines in combat since World War II and continue to serve in law enforcement and search-and-rescue operations. Tracker, a German Shepherd, was a hero of 9/11 for his search-and-rescue efforts.

Pigeons - Often overlooked, pigeons played a crucial role in communication throughout history and in times of war. During both World Wars, carrier pigeons were vital for transmitting strategic messages.
Farm animals - Animals like cattle, oxen, and mules were crucial to the success of westward pioneers, and many farmed animals continue to perform intensive labor. Some animal rights groups suggest that Labor Day is a good time to reflect on the welfare of these working animals.
