In the days surrounding Sadie’s passing, cardinals appeared outside her window—symbols many believe represent loved ones visiting from the afterlife. Both Rachel and her mother fell into deep grief, struggling through the months that followed.
Then, in September, Rachel’s mother decided to bring home a new puppy. Rachel insisted she wasn’t ready. But when one particular puppy—a little black lab/golden retriever mix with a purple collar (Rachel’s favorite color)—kept returning to her, she couldn’t ignore the pull. She named her Zoe, only to discover another uncanny coincidence: the breeder’s daughter once had a horse named Zoe, the same as Rachel.
Signs continued to arrive. A dragonfly lingered by Zoe while she played outside. A rock Zoe picked up turned out to be shaped like a heart. Each felt like Sadie reaching through, blessing this new chapter.
Since Zoe arrived, the heavy grief has lifted, replaced by joy, laughter, and the playful chaos of puppyhood. Rachel believes Zoe wasn’t an accident—she was guided to her by Sadie’s spirit.
