The night her mother went into labor, something began rolling across the ceiling of their top-floor apartment—heavy, deliberate, back and forth like a bowling ball in an attic that didn’t exist. After she was born, the activity didn’t stop. It evolved. Toys played on their own. Cabinets jolted inward. A musical hairbrush chimed without moving, as if shaken by an invisible hand.
Then came the “miracles.” A crib base gives out, leaving only inches for a baby to fall through—yet she somehow crawls safely down the stairs. A blanket mysteriously rewraps her baby brother from head to toe, seconds from suffocating him—until her father wakes to a blinding white light that shouldn’t be there. Years later, glass explodes above that same brother, yet shatters in a perfect circle around him while she’s left standing in the shards.
