Lightning lit the windows white. Thunder rolled through the walls. And in that moment, as if the house had been waiting for the perfect crack of darkness, the basement light blew out in a burst of sparks… even though the bulb was never broken afterward.
That’s when she heard it. A child’s laugh. She fled. And what followed her to the door wasn’t footsteps—but pressure. Attention. A presence that seemed to lean up from the dark, curious about the one person inside who could feel it.
But sometimes, when she drives past that part of town, she swears the house still feels awake—still watching the road—still waiting for the next person foolish enough to live there alone.

The Brothers Ortiz is the story of two brothers–both successful, but in very different ways.
