(00:23):
What's another episode on the music series?
Now. There will be a lot more
different things coming up this week and next week.
Keep an eye out. On the Instagram.
Because there will be recordingsof the last few dates available
before the end of the year for music artists.
Keep an eye out for that. Now, of course, if you follow
(00:45):
the show, make sure you're subscribed to the either Spotify
or Apple or whatever or whereveryou listen to podcast.
Just make sure you subscribe. I also asked a lot of artists
for ratings because that brings UA lot of views for the
episodes. The more we can get exposure
wise on these artists the better.
(01:06):
And if you want to support theseartists, make sure you get their
songs, make sure you add them toyour own playlist.
Make sure you listen, follow andsubscribe to them.
And if you want to support me, check out the merchandise store.
It's like 35% off twice a month.Couple cool designs and it helps
me out a lot and just keeps things going around here.
Motivates for sure, and spreads the word of mouth, which has
(01:29):
been working fantastically around the world now with about
130 countries have listed a show.
So every state in the United States and every province in
Canada has heard their show. So doing great things and it's
all because of you guys, becauseyou're listening.
And I appreciate that a lot. Now today as usual fantastic
(01:53):
music and lookout for maybe a commentary episode coming U in
the next couple weeks of some just to break it all up a little
bit between all the music episodes that are coming.
Up. For you guys.
All right, let's get to today's episode.
I don't see myself on skis, that's ridiculous.
It's a dangerous for. Very dangerous.
(02:13):
I grew up doing it like when I was a kid and I when I was 19 I
broke my back. Oh wow, yeah, let's start with
that. Yeah.
That rocks. Welcome to the show.
Thanks. Let's start with that.
Let's start with the what happened there before we get to
the whole music stuff. Yeah, for sure.
I was at like, I used to like compete snowboarding, like cause
(02:35):
I'm from Collingwood so there wasn't much to do up there.
And yeah, I was, I went to Whistler and I was snowboarding
there. I was in the park, you know,
ripping it up and I overshot a jump and landed like flat in my
spine compressed. So two of my vertebrates,
vertebrates broke my L2 and my L3 and then I broke my wrist and
(02:58):
I had like a super bad concussion.
And that's actually like where like my doctor was like, oh,
like write poetry and stuff, like for your memory and all
this stuff. And, and I did.
And that's, that's kind of wherelike, like the rap stuff stemmed
from. I I think because I wrote poetry
(03:19):
and then like, it's kind of turned into rap.
Yeah, cause I was just gonna saylike, pull, pull rap is a lot of
poetry. That's how my rap career started
saying same thing. You started from writing poetry.
That's fantastic. So how long were you writing
poetry until you figured out waslike, hey, I could turn this
into hip hop? Well, just like when I was like
younger, like early 20s and stuff, I did it and then it kind
(03:42):
of took like a break. I was finding myself and then I
didn't really get back into it until like I moved to Toronto
and I was working, I work in like the film industry and stuff
and, and I was doing like music videos and being around artists
and stuff and, and I just reallyliked the lifestyle and I was
like, alright, like maybe I could do this.
(04:03):
And it kind of it just kind of blossomed from there.
So now you have to draw on your inspiration somewhere as poetry,
you have to draw on a lot of different things and and you
definitely have to do it in rap.Where does your inspiration for
your writing come from? Basically like life, life stuff.
(04:24):
I, I, I think, and it all stemmed from like a boy
obviously, like heartbreak and everything like that.
Like music is my tool, like for therapy, you know what I mean?
And so it kind of stems from like, just like life stuff that
I go through. Nice.
(04:45):
Now every artist, especially rapartists and even myself, have a
method method to creating what you're doing.
Like for me it starts with the hook.
I always do the hook instrumentals and then I get
into the rest of it. What's your process like?
So usually like I'll be like writing, I have like 300 songs
(05:07):
in my notes app on my phone and I'll just like write and stuff.
Like I kind of do it. I don't know, like the new
school way, but like I do like verse, course, verse and then
course again, like and I just, you know, like it just kind of
blossoms. I just kind of keep writing and
(05:28):
then sorry, that was my dog stand.
That's. OK.
I just, it just stems from like writing and then then I find the
beats, like I'll get sent beats from producers or like I, I find
it beat on beat stars. That's a great tool to use as an
artist. Make sure you pay for your
(05:49):
beats, make sure you pay for your producers.
I find that and then I just kindof, I go through different
versions of, of songs too. Like I'll have a song, I'll find
a beat for it. But then because I'm constantly
doing like going through beats, like literally every day, I
might find something better. And I'm like, oh, like that's
it. Like and then just fats.
(06:10):
It's just like baking, you know,a cake.
And that's, that's, that's what I kind of think of it as.
Nice, awesome, I love hearing that.
That type. Of stuff I love our tricky out
everybody else's mind works whenthey're creating.
So that's fun for me. Now let's talk about today's
track cause you brought a track for the show called Matthew.
(06:30):
Let's, let's, let's talk about that.
Could you send me a couple of tracks?
And, and I'm always doing some type of research and listening
to music all the time and saying, I want your Spotify
account and I listen to all yourother tracks.
And this one stood out to me because it's not the same type
of style or similar style like some most of the other ones.
(06:52):
Let's talk about Matthew. Yeah, so my partner passed away
to a drug overdose and that and his name was Matthew Matt.
And we were together for a whileand he struggled, you know, with
addiction and everything like that.
We, I mean, tried our best to fight the fight, but ultimately
(07:13):
that's kind of what took him. And I kind of took a break from
music and I just set back to like evaluate the next steps and
like what I was going to do. And it was just kind of like I
just kind of, I honestly, I do music every day.
(07:35):
And then once he passed away, like I stopped and it was just
like hard stop, like completely checked out from, from
everything. And then as I was grieving
through that, I just a couple months later, I was just like, I
need to do something and like honor him and like make sure
(07:57):
that his legacy doesn't ever die.
And I always want to have that conversation because he was a
big advocate in sobriety and everything.
And I want people to to know that there's like outlets out
there and everything and to justhave that conversation,
especially when you're performing and stuff like that.
Like if I perform that song, like so many people come up to
(08:19):
me after and just give me their experience and it's like, sorry,
my dog's going crazy right now and just talk about their
experience. And it's just, it's such a
common thing. And I just, I wanted something
for him, you know? And, and that was my first song
coming back from the hiatus. And it's, it's very special to
(08:43):
me. And it's kind of like shaping my
new sound coming back. Like we're, I'm working on an
album right now and it's called Ghost in My Garden.
And we're like almost there. We're like about halfway
through. And ideally I'd like to really
set this year, but we will see. I want it to be, it's a very
special project to meet for me and and hopefully it resonates
(09:07):
with with my audience. Yeah, yeah, I, I was listening
to it. This is definitely a track that
you can turn into a a big statement out there with a
message that everyone definitelycan relate to.
And just from personal experience with stuff like this,
(09:29):
even at some point music video with a release with a message
would definitely drive that even.
Even deeper with the audience. Yeah, yeah, yeah, point and.
We have about that. Yeah, 100%.
Like I, I have a lot of, you know, like video ideas like, but
right now, like the goal, I'm independent.
So everything is, is self fundedand I'm just trying to make the
(09:52):
best possible album right now. So all of my budget is kind of
going into that and touring right now.
Like I just got off like pretty much this summer tour.
And you know, when you're independent, you have to to pay
for everything yourself. And, and it's just, you know,
it's there's levels and you justgotta keep leveling up.
So eventually, eventually, sorry, we will, we'll be doing
(10:15):
videos for the whole album. And Matthew is like the the last
track on the album so. Yeah, independent.
It's, it's hard. It is hard.
That's why we do what we do, to get the word out there and to
grow and to support. And that's what this show does.
And I think the audience is ready to hear this track right
now. So let's apply it.
OK. Here is Rex with Matthew.
(10:57):
No swat this other lone I'm searching for your smile but
know that it is going. I'm just left you with these
bitches on my phone running. There can never be thy with you
(11:18):
more than you can't stay here inthe there way there freeze time
may heal, It won't never erase ahave within this empty space.
(11:47):
So the only one who could ever fill this void will always be my
love, my heart, my Matthew boy, I said this.
I'm stuck up in my grieves, The shadows they whisper where we
used to be. And I'm trying to move on.
(12:08):
But I'm stuck up in my head. I'm left to wonder where your
souls instead. And I miss you more than words
can say. Yeah.
Then you live by world ain't been the same dream that I don't
wanna wake up from. And love dance out of reach.
(12:34):
But it is never done. Time may heal.
It won't ever erase the AIG I have within this empty fade to
the only one who could ever fillthis void.
Flowers be my love, my heart, myMatthew boy.
(12:56):
Fill them with tears and pain. It never goes away.
It always says I'm chasing goalsthat I will never find.
They say it gets better, you just gotta give it time.
(13:17):
There you go. That was Matthew Racks still
here with me today. Now the track will be available
on the Spotify playlist for the show.
So go follow, like, subscribe, add it to your own playlist.
You have to listen to me. Just go get the music.
Like, follow, subscribe and support all the independent
artists. Now rocks.
You just talked about your possibility of us seeing an
album sooner rather than later. That's the plan for 2025.
(13:41):
What else do you have planned for the rest of this year?
I have a lot of shows happening.I'm going to back to Collingwood
October 25th and then I'm going to Owen Sound October 24th.
I have a couple other festivals lined up, but I don't know if I
(14:03):
can release that yet. Beyond all, also Ottawa.
I'm going to Ottawa. I'm doing the Cranium festival.
We're doing like the barcode stage.
So it's going to be cool. It's like a live freestyle that
they film and then there's like a live audience that's going to
be pretty dope. And Montreal and going to
Montreal as well. Just traveling as much as I can,
(14:26):
you know, getting the the music out there.
Definitely good way to build an audience.
Fantastic. Now that's a lot of traveling, a
lot of touring. If my audience want to follow
you on the socials and keep up with what you're doing.
Besides the website racksofficialmusic.com, where
should they go? I'm racks official music on all
(14:46):
platforms like TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, basically
make sure you follow my Spotify and yeah.
Nice, nice and simple. The same everywhere.
Fantastic. We should go like, follow,
subscribe, get the music. Like I said, even added to your
own playlist. You have to listen to mine.
Support independent artist. That's where we're all here.
(15:08):
For, absolutely. Rax, thank you for calling the
show and sharing music with me. Thank you so much for having me.
