SPEAKER_00 (00:00):
Blessings, friends
and family.
In this devotion, we're into 1Corinthians 1, verse 18.
For the message of the cross isfoolishness to those who are
perishing, but to us who arebeing saved, it is the power of
God.
(00:21):
Now, at first glance, that mightseem a little dense, but stick
with me, okay?
Because there's some real goldin this verse, I promise you.
So what's Paul, the writer ofCorinthians, really getting at
here?
Well, he's highlighting afundamental divide in how people
see the world, really.
On one side, you've got folkswho don't get the whole Jesus
(00:44):
thing.
The idea of a savior dying on across, it seems, well, kind of
ridiculous to them.
Like, what's all the fuss about?
It's foolishness.
They're looking for, I don'tknow, worldly wisdom, maybe.
Power, success, somethingtangible, right?
Something that they can see andtouch.
But then on the other side, you've got those of us who
(01:04):
believe.
And for us, the cross, thatsymbol of sacrifice and love,
it's not foolish at all.
It's power.
It's the very power of God atwork in our lives, transforming
us, saving us.
Now, how does this apply to yourlife like today?
Okay, so think about it.
(01:27):
We all face tough times, right?
Setbacks, disappointments, things that just plain hurt.
And when those things happen,it's easy to fall into that
foolishness mindset.
To think,
SPEAKER_01 (01:40):
okay, I got to fix
this myself.
I got to hustle harder, besmarter, be tougher, you know?
SPEAKER_00 (01:46):
But Paul's saying
there's another way.
The power of God, the message ofthe cross.
It's about surrendering.
It's about admitting you don'thave all the answers, that you
can't do it all on your own.
It's about trusting in somethingbigger than yourself.
So, like, practically speaking, what does that look like?
(02:06):
Well, maybe it's starting yourday with prayer.
Maybe it's reading a passage ofscripture to center yourself.
Maybe it's reaching out to afriend or family member for
support instead of trying to,you know, shoulder everything
alone.
It's about admitting activelychoosing to see your struggles
through the lens of faith, believing that even in the midst
(02:27):
of difficulty, God's power is atwork.
And honestly, that can be a gamechanger.
When you stop relying solely onyour own strength, when you open
yourself up to the possibilityof divine intervention, you'd be
surprised at what can happen.
That challenge you're facing Itmight not magically disappear,
(02:49):
but your perspective will shift.
You'll find a new kind ofstrength, a new kind of peace
that you never knew existed.
The foolishness of the crossbecomes your superpower.
So, I challenge you to reallymeditate on 1 Corinthians 1.18.
(03:10):
Think about where you're placingyour trust.
Are you relying solely on yourown abilities, or are you open
to the power of God in yourlife?
Give it a try, okay?
You might just find that themessage of the cross isn't so
foolish after all.
In fact, it might be the wisestthing you ever do.
(03:31):
Let's pray.
Father God, we thank you for whoyou are to us, and that is our
everything.
We thank you for the clarity ofthis passage today through your
Holy Spirit.
Continue to draw in by yourgrace and mercy those who are
perishing because they considerthe message of the cross
(03:54):
foolish.
It is your perfect will that noone should perish.
We thank you for giving wisdomto all who asks.
Moreover, for the wisdom not torely on our own strength in
situations that we know are toobig for us.
Father, Amen.
Amen.
(04:40):
Amen and amen.
