(00:00):
It was no surprise over the weekendwhen Iran began their retaliatory strike against Israel.
Israel hit the diplomatic compound in Syriaof Iran. Iran said, all
right, you got it coming, fired off hundreds of rockets and drones and
missiles, and exactly just about noneof them ended up hitting target. The

(00:23):
Israeli air defense system just got sometarget practice on Saturday night. But now
the question is what is Israel goingto do in response? And what is
America prepared to do to stand byour ally be a major topic conversation for
those on Capitol Hill throughout the week. We welcome one of them now,

(00:43):
Iowas Senator Chuck Grassley joins us onnews radio eleven ten kfab Senator, good
morning, Good morning. I'm gladto be with you, and I like
that intro, and if I couldcome in, I'd like to do that.
That was exactly the question I hadfor you. Would you please give
us your thoughts on all of this? Yeah, First of all, I
don't think the United States should tellIsrael how to fight its wars or to

(01:10):
defend itself like we would resent Israeltelling us how we ought to fight our
wars or defend ourselves. And alsoas a personal feeling, I think that
it would be a good thing forIsrael to let Iran know that they made

(01:30):
a big mistake by sending in overthree hundred missiles and drones to do damage
to Israel, so that Iran wouldnever do it again. I think that
it would be similar to Iran strikinga nuclear facility in Iraq, I think

(01:55):
in the early nineteen eighties, butIraq never became a new clear capability as
a result of Israel taking a Youcould say, long, well, whatever
they did, they did good fornot only Iraq and Israel, but the

(02:20):
entire world to have one less nuclearcapability country in the world, and I
think we ought to show the sameto Iran. So I've got that precedent
by Israel doing a wise thing probablythirty years ago. Do you think Israel
should or would respond to what Irandid over the weekend that I hope I

(02:47):
made that clear that it would be. I would say it would be a
wise thing for Iran or for Israelto do it, but I'm not going
to get involved in how they oughtto fight their Well, the Iran is
apparently telling their people that Israel haslearned their lesson. I'm wondering Iran knew

(03:10):
that Israel has this air defense systemthat America was helping out, that they
weren't going to hit a great blowagainst Israel, and doing this, I
think they just wanted to provoke Israeland America into further conflict. What should
America's stance be, especially since there'sa conversation to the House about funding more

(03:31):
assistance for Israel as well as Ukraine. How much should we continue to pay
and get involved in all of this. Well, don't forget that we've been
involved with Israel with a slight financialhelp. I say slight compared to all
the money we spend on foreign reliefsince the David Cords of nineteen seventy nine

(04:00):
eighty. We thought that it wasa good thing to buy peace between Israel
and Egypt and later Israel and Jordan, to get peace agreements between those countries,
and that we would give some moneyto Israel as a result of that.
We also give some money to Egyptas a result of that, about

(04:25):
a third of the amount that wegive to Israel. So we've been doing
that for a long time because fortwo reasons, we figure that it's in
our interests to promote democracy in theMiddle East where everything else is dictators.
And secondly, for our own nationalsecurity, having a friend in that boul

(04:47):
part of the world is necessary. So I'm not saying we do this for
the benefit of Israel. We're doingfor the benefit of the United States for
two reasons, our nation security andpromoting democracy. How much do you think
Israel feels our friendship? Right now? You've got President Biden telling Israel and

(05:11):
knock it off, and he justapproved another ten billion dollars to Iran on
top of a previous six billion dollars. These guys have had sixteen billion dollars
freed up to spend on whatever itis Iran wants. The President says,
well, they need to spend iton humanitarian aid. Well, they've had

(05:31):
their leaders over the years say thebest thing that Iran can do for humanity
is wipe Israel off the map.So now the President Biden is telling Israel
stop fighting back against the Hummas terroristorganization and given Iran billions of dollars to
potentially wage war on Israel. Soagain the question is how much do you
think Israel is really feeling our friendshipright now, not at all, or

(05:57):
at least less than prior to Octoberseventh, because we're trying to tell them
how to fight their war, We'retrying to tell them how to run their
government. We're even telling them theyneed to have an election to get rid
of net Yahoo. And not onlydo I answer your question that I think
it hurts our relationships with Israel,I think it sends the signal to all

(06:24):
of our friends around the world towhat extent can we trust the United States?
And a lot of peace has beensaved not having a World War III
in the last seventy or eighty yearsbecause the United States has showed some credibility
with the rest of the world thatwe can be trusted, and this weakens

(06:46):
our trust with our friends around theworld. Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley with us
here for another couple of minutes onnews radio eleven ten kfab. Of course,
there's a referendum coming in November inan election between President Biden former President
Trump. Trump has got a jury'selection right now in a hush money case

(07:06):
for allegedly trying to pay an adultfilm start to keep quiet about a tryst.
This is one of several things that'sgot Trump locked up in court.
Various people have had different opinions asto how political some of these court cases
are. As you're telling people inIowa and across the country, look,

(07:29):
America is potentially going down the wrongpath, and a lot of people look
at what Trump is dealing with, going this is the wrong path to This
is just a crazy town that surroundsTrump everywhere he goes. There's a circus.
What are your thoughts on the assessmenthere that people are just tired of
Trump and they don't want him backbecause of all the sensationalism that comes with

(07:53):
him, of people that can't beatTrump in the election, that they could
get him out of running for officeby suing him. And if he wasn't
a candidate for president, he wouldn'tbe fighting these four prosecutions that he's fighting
or civil's actions that he's fighting. And in this particular case, under New

(08:18):
York law, the statutes of limitationhave run out. So you've got a
person that ran for a district attorneyin New York on the proposition that he
was that he was going to prosecutethis president, and he's doing it and
he couldn't do it because the statutesthe limitations run out, so he's doing

(08:41):
it on combining state law with federallaw to bring this case, and two
previous a district's attorney in New Yorkdecided it were prosecuting. So you can
see how politically oriented this case isin New York against him just because he's

(09:01):
a candidate for the president of theUnited States. And certainly to a lot
of people it looks just as nakedlypolitical as your assessment is. But there'll
be those who say, come on, Senator, you're a classy guy,
and you're asking you to stand upfor someone here who paid off a porn
star to keep quiet about a trust. Are you sure you want to support

(09:22):
this guy. To that, Senator, you would say, what, I'm
not standing up for Trump. I'mstanding up for the rule of law and
the constitution of the United States. That would never presume two hundred and forty
years ago that we would be bringingcandidates for president to trial just because they're

(09:45):
political opponents. Appreciate your answers asalways like a conversation. Senator, Thank
you very much for engaging in ittoday. Look forward to doing it again
soon. God bless you, Goodbye,
