And they always get back around toOmaha. Coming back here to Omaha Council
Bluffs this Saturday at stir Concert Cove, Harris Casino, Council Bluffs, the
Beach Boys with Mike Love who's backhere with us on eleven to ten kfab
Good morning, Mike, Good morning, it's great to be on the programs.

(00:22):
Good morning. I think that you'vespent more time performing in Omaha over
the decades than bands like three toeleven who are from here. I mean,
you guys always come back with alot of love for Omaha every almost
every single summer. This is true. And we've even been to Council Bluff,
which is right across the river,I guess. And and we actually

(00:47):
know where it is. We've beencoming to Omaha for six decades now,
you know pretty much as well. It's it's not that far from Kansas.
And my mother was born in Hutchinson, see, so I'm a product of

(01:07):
the Midwest farmer's daughter. Hutches isa great town, especially if you're a
golfer. They got a world classgolf course down there. But yeah,
we're not We're not too far, probably four hours from Hutchinson, Kansas,
maybe a little bit less. Butwe're right across the river from Council Bluffs
where you guys are playing stir Coveon Saturday. The heat index is gonna
be somewhere near the core of thesun on Saturday. I'm guessing for a

(01:30):
beach boy, you don't mind performingin the heat too much, do you.
Well. The thing is, weusually do our performances in the evening,
so as the sun goes down,it's not quite as intense, so
it's you know, and we're gonnapray for a breeze, cooling breeze.

(01:51):
But nonetheless, whatever the conditions are, we're gonna, we're gonna, we're
gonna have fun, fun, fun. Let me tell you. I mean
the fiftieth anniversary of our Endless Summermulti platinum album this year, and we're
doing eighteen of the twenty songs onthat double album Awesome, Awesome, that

(02:12):
well, which ones then didn't makethe cut? And why well, because
they're Karl Wilson's leads, you know, and he unfortunately we lost him twenty
five years ago to the lung cancer. But in addition to the Endless Summer
offerings, we're going to do ourgood vibrations our cocam. You know,

(02:36):
we're going to do some our petsounds of songs. You know, God
only knows. Wouldn't it be nice? Sloop John B. We always do
those. It's kind of like AmericanExpress. You didn't you didn't leave home
without it, you know, Butwe don't leave home. We don't leave
our stage without doing fun, fun, fun, I get around, help

(02:58):
me run a good vibration Cocomo, you know, California Girls helped me,
Ron Barbara and a few other songs. We did two hours of music when
we're allowed to do it. Idon't know what the what's on the menu
for for Saturday, but I thinkwe like to do two one hour sets,

(03:21):
unless the promoter wants us to dojust one straight through. In that
case, we do like at leastan hour and forty five minutes of music.
It's going to be a huge showon Saturday night. And we have
Mike Love here on the show, and you need people from two different radio
stations to tag team this interview. In addition to being joining us here on
eleven ten kfab Lucy Chapman here isalso with Omaha's Greatest It's ninety nine point

(03:45):
nine kg R. Lucy. Hi, Mike, it's nice to meet you.
Well, well, I'm glad.Yeah. I saw a note to
me that Lucy was going to beon. But then then then I heard
this guy's voice. I mean,he's playing the part of Lucy Chapman today,
he's not doing it. Well,it's in twenty twenty four, Mike,
anyone can do anything they want anymore. Well yeah, uh huh.

(04:08):
Well let's not get too far downthat road anyway, Hey, Mike,
you can't. You can't go toa Beach Boys concert and not look out
from your perspective, look out overthat crowd and see anything but smiles and
laughing and dancing. Am I right? Well, you know what what's miraculous
and fantastic and wonderful at there werefour seventeen year old girls who had all

(04:33):
decorated up in Beach Boys that hadwe Love Mike love kind of thing.
They had written our song titles ontheir legs and had grass skirts on and
everything. They're having a great time, but their grandmother wanted to take a
picture with me. So we havelike three or four generations coming out to

(04:53):
our shows and families enjoy our musictogether, which is fantastic, and you're
gonna you're gonna talk about that alot in the new documentary that's coming out.
Oh yeah, documentary is out onIt's out on Disney Plus so or
Hulus. But anyway, if youhaven't seen it, it's it's it's pretty

(05:13):
interesting because everyone that's ever been apart of the Beach Boys through since the
beginning, their contributions are you know, noted and and it really shows the
family connection and the family that lovesmusic. I mean, Mike, Mike.
My mom at five years old wentto California with her her her siblings

(05:38):
from Hutchinson, Kansas, and theydidn't have any money. It was a
dustbel conditions, dustbel times before theGreat Depression anyway, when they but they
did have music. So my unclesang in a quartette, my mom sang
light opera uh in high school andstuff. And it was a big deal
then because they got to sing onthe race. Pretty cool, huh.

(06:02):
Anyway, So a generation later wewere singing about in the California lifestyle and
it's you know, reverberated all aroundthe world. Music has changed certainly over
the last fifty sixty seventy five years, but you have. You've been there
since you were born, and you'veseen quite a lot of change just in

(06:26):
California and the music scene. Howdo you see what's the biggest difference from
when you got started to what you'reseeing today. Well, the well,
of course, music goes through changesover the years and all different types of
music, and there's something for everyone, I guess out there. But with
us it's always been well. Firstof all, when we started out,

(06:50):
there would may be be two microphonesand we adopt to share them. Now
we have a great team that comesin and sets everything up, and our
crew goes in and sets everything upfor us. We come in and do
a sound check. The sound isso much better these days. The lighting
is better, the production's better,so the audience experience is infinitely better than

(07:15):
when we first started out, whenwe would have our station wagon with the
U haul truck and we'd set upand break down our equipment and do four
sets a night at a ballroom orsomething or lake, you know, out
of the lake, or you know, on these summertime venues where you know,
all these old time country musicians wouldgo. So it's so much nicer

(07:36):
these days with the production and Everything. The Endless Summer Tour with Mike Love
and the Beach Boys this Saturday atster concert Cove. Tickets online at stercove
dot com. Do you guys evertry and go on tour during the winter
and say we're trying to book someshows around New Year's and maybe around Christmas,
like it's the Beach Boys. Wedon't want you guys in February.

(08:01):
Well, I'll tell you what welearned our lesson about going to going on
tour in December when we went toDuluth one year and I think it was
January or February, and I thinkI had walking pneumonia for about a month
after that, and the boogie woogieflew. Yeah, it's yeah, probably

(08:22):
not the best idea to ever goto Duluth. But you know, you
know, Lucy talked about the differencein music over the years, and I
know everyone has got a story thatbegins with man, you guys when I
was a kid, and then it'sthat that touchstone to Beach Boys music.
And I was just thinking about today'skids versus how you and your cousins grew

(08:43):
up and what you wrote songs abouthanging at the beach, driving your cars,
you know, getting together and havingthis great experience. Now, if
someone was writing a song about today'sAmerica's youth, it'd be called I Sit
around. It's not the same lifestyle. It's not the same lifestyle, right,

(09:05):
Well, I think it exists inlittle pockets here and there. But
you know, there's so much dissensionand negativity in the atmosphere of these days.
But the beauty of the Beach Boysmusic is it's all about good vibrations.
I mean when we wrote Good Vibrations, we knew there was a Vietnam

(09:26):
War. We all are draft cards. There was integration problems in student demonstrations
and all that. But we chose, I chose to accentuate the positive in
our lyrics and fun things and positivethings and things that are great in life,
whether it's an attraction to a younglady, or an attraction to a

(09:52):
fantastic car from Detroit, or thebeautiful lifestyle that we lived in California.
So you can still find the positivein life if you choose to look at
life and choose to make good lifestylechoices, you know, so you don't
harm yourself and get all messed up, and you can choose to accentuate the

(10:16):
positive. And I'm telling you thekids, like there's lots of kids that
come to our show. I meanwhen I say kids, I mean teenagers
and younger and older that love themusic, and we find that it's a
fantastic experience. It's so uplifting forme to see the effect of our music.

(10:39):
Mike, Mike, real quick, because I know that you're on a
schedule. Here, tell us aboutyour Club Kocomo Spirits. You've got this
whole different thing going on, andI'm really interested in hearing about this.
Well, we have four ready todrink cocktails and club Pokemo spirits, and
we've also won some gold medals froma prestigious competition in San Francisco where there's

(11:05):
thousands of entrants of all kinds ofspirits from all around the world. We
have focused on rum mainly because ifI were to go out to a club
or a dinner or something, ordersome I'll order a mohito. So I
created a Coca mohito, and sowe have an afternoon delight, a CoCom

(11:28):
mohito, A and A and acouple other ready to drink cocktails. And
you could look it up on Clubcocomodot com and they're about forty states that
you can order those those cocktails too, and we're selling these rum bottles too
as well. And in some caseswe're having tastings after the show, VIP

(11:52):
tasting. But they're delicious. Imean, that's my deal. I couldn't
tell you about tequila. I couldn'ttell you about jin really, but we
have one gin drink in this delicious. It's called Excitations. And we got
these these titles from either Cocomo orGood Vibrations. Oh yeah, we recognize

(12:16):
the titles there. You know, you could have an immersive experience. Is
Saturday to see the Beach Boys MikeLove at stir concert Cove stircove dot com
for details about Saturday's concert. Youcan watch The Beach Boys on Disney Plus
beforehand, you can read The BeachBoys by the Beach book about the Beach
Boys after the show, and youcan have the Club Cocomo spirits the entire

(12:39):
time. Mike, we ask ourfavorite guests on this program to say a
line for us that we feel isthe best thing to hear first thing in
the morning. Now, the lineis, good morning, honey, I
made you pancakes for breakfast. Butbecause you're Mike Love of the Beach Boys,
I'm hoping you can say Aruba,Jamaica, Ooh, I want to
make you some pancakes, Ruba tomake a who I want to take who?

(13:07):
I want to make you some pancakes. Love it. That's perfect,
love it. Thank you, Mike. All right, Well, thank you
a lot of fun being on theprogram this morning, and I like the
double teaming of music and news talk. I think it's brilliant. We're all
here for good vibrations in any form. Thanks Mike. S On Saturday,
all right, an unsigned email helpedme come up with that pancakes line for

(13:31):
Mike. Love that is perfect.Well, the guy says, he said,
have him do help me, Ronda, help me make some pancakes,
because I was just going to havehim do the standard good morning, honey,
I made you pancakes for breakfast, and then I was inspired by that
one, going what could we do? And you know it just it rolls
off the tongue, Ooh, Iwant to make you some pank Of course

(13:54):
he's been singing ooh, I wantto take you so long I knew he'd
have trouble with it that song.I remember when that song came out,
the Beach Boys were I mean notjust yesterday's news, they were like last
Tuesday's news, like late eighties thatcame out in the movie Cocktail, Yeah,
nineteen eighty eight ish second seven eightYeah, yeahh ish circa nineteen eighty

(14:16):
eight. And suddenly the Beach Boyswere back on top of the charts again.
And at the same time, youcould go into the store and you
had to buy a Beach Boy's GreatestHits album, and so a lot of
us ended up picking up and LessSummer, which is what this tour is
based on, the Greatest Hits ofthe Beach Boys. This Saturday at Stircov.
The best thing about that was whatyou didn't hear because the phone batphone

(14:41):
rings and I pick it up andgo, good morning, kfab and he
says, Hi, this is MikeLove of the Beach Boys, Like do
people not know who you are?And he goes, well, I don't
know. Sometimes you call these newstalk stations they don't know who you are,
Like, well, we know whoyou are. We're glad to have
you here. What a great interview. That sounds like a great guy.
That was fun, and thank youvery much Lucy for tag teaming on that conversation.
