Speaker 1 (00:00):
Gary Sadelmayer here, Kvab's warning News, Scott Voorhie's in one
more day for Jim Rose and Lucy and Kraiger here
of course, and you know that President Zelensky from Ukraine
is coming in tomorrow to Washington and they're going to
talk that maybe finalized that minerals deal. We don't know
(00:21):
everything about it, but Donald Trump sounds pretty positive about it.
And I don't think Zelensky would be coming here if
they didn't have it basically wrapped up and finishing up
the details. What we do know, according to Ukrainian TV,
they're the Prime minister over there said they envisage an
(00:46):
investment fund would be set up for Ukraine's construction, and
Ukraine and the US would manage that fund on equal terms,
and the Ukraine would contribute fifty percent a future proceeds
from state owned mineral resources oil and gas to the fund,
and the fund would then invest in projects in Ukraine. Now,
(01:10):
as far as what does the US get out of it,
the Ukrainian president had rejected an initial request from the
US for five hundred billion in mineral wealth, and it
looks like that demand has been dropped. The provisions of
the deal are much better for Ukraine now, a source
(01:30):
in Ukraine's government told the BBC and the President Trump
Tuesday said that we had given Ukraine between three hundred
billion and three hundred and fifty billion in eight and
that he wanted to get that money back through a deal.
So what it finally ends up being the particulars I think,
(01:54):
given this administration's dedication to transparency, I think we will
know after they signed the deal, will know.
Speaker 2 (02:00):
I'm not giving out peace prizes yet, Gary, but if
this works out the way that Trump wants it to
and the way that he's doing it, which is classic Trump,
I mean he told Ukraine like, look, we've been shoveling
money at this issue. It hasn't stopped the war. Your
people are still dying. Russia's people are still dying. We
(02:22):
can keep doing this forever if you want. We're going
to lose money to some point, we're going to stop
funding you, and then you're gonna get beat by Russia. Anyway.
Tell you what, here's what we're gonna do. We want
to recoup some of our expenses. We want to get
into this rare earth mineral deal with you so we
can start getting some of our money back as a
way of saying, hey, thanks a lot for keeping some
of us alive, thanks for keeping us a sovereign nation.
(02:45):
And then Ukraine was like no. And then Trump goes
over to Russia and starts blaming Ukraine for starting the
war and talking tough. And now Ukraine's like, wait a second,
is this crazy? Sob Trump going to sell us out
to Russia right now?
Speaker 1 (03:01):
Yeah, maybe we should talk.
Speaker 2 (03:02):
That's how Trump negotiates when people are like, I don't
know what Trump's doing. This is what he was doing.
He was getting Ukraine back to the table to stop
the war, stop the killing, and get you the United
States paid back. Now, if this all works out according
to his plan, like I said, I'm not handing out
any peace prizes. This would be the kind of thing
that someone would win a Nobel Peace Prize for. They
(03:25):
would never give it to him. They wouldn't never forgive
Donald Trump no. But he if it works out this way,
and I certainly hope it does. You have to from
a humanitarian standpoint, hope it works out this way. They'll
never give him.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
Another interesting piece of this is the security guarantees, and
Trump the other day said that they'd have peacekeepers from
Europe in there in Ukraine and that Putin wouldn't have
a problem with that. But Russian state media saying, well,
and we don't like that, you know, So.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
We wouldn't have peacekeepers there. We would have people protecting
our interests with those minerals.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Yeah, but I mean it's not going to be America.
Speaker 2 (04:05):
No, right, but Russia knows what it's all about. Like now, now,
if you invade Ukraine, this is American, this is direct
American interest. This is in Ukraine's best interest long term
to sign this deal.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Indeed, so what the what the security guarantees will amount
to is the other part of the deal. There is
no deal. Yeah, we got to be clear about that.
But Zelensky's coming in. I have a feeling that Trump
and Putin talk more than is publicized. Look, we got
to get this, we gotta get dying Vlatimir.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
I don't know if you saw the Michigan State game
last night, it was fantastic.
Speaker 1 (04:42):
This I'll put a missile in the Kremlin. I don't
want to, but
