Speaker 1 (00:00):
Scott Gordie. This is one of my favorite songs of
all time. But I'm not gonna be one of these
radio hacks that welcomes Ione Sky onto this radio show
with this famous song from her perhaps most loved movie
Say Anything. Instead, do us big time go with a

(00:26):
different Peter Gabriel song here as we welcome on to
the program, the actress and author of the new memoir
Say Everything, Ione Sky, joins us here on news Radio
eleven ten kfab Ione, good morning.

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Good morning.

Speaker 1 (00:42):
I am putting a lot of pressure on you this
morning because here in the Omaha metro we had a
blizzard throughout the night. It's just miserable, cold, windy, and
snowy here this morning. I need you to be a
ray of sunshine and warmth for us this morning. Is
that within your realm of capability?

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yes, I can't bring that to you, absolutely I thought
it will. I'll make you all feel the sun. It'll
make you feel warm.

Speaker 1 (01:09):
Because you always have. And even though I've got a
couple of annoying questions about Say Anything, I also love
four Rooms and arrested development in the secular world.

Speaker 2 (01:21):
I feel like they're a bit young, you know. I
didn't want to say anything in front of Terry, but I.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
Agree, we'll.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
Take me to your secular work. You know what, I
can't believe my dad. First he's saying I need to
respect the sanctity of marriage, and then he's making out
with her on the balcony.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
He thought he didn't even like him.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
No, no, missus veal.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
Missus veal and arrested developments. So, yes, are you tired
of talking about say anything? Should we come back to that?
Should we get that out of the way. What do
you want to do here this morning?

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Yeah, I'll do whatever you want. I'm not tired of it.

Speaker 1 (01:57):
All right, let's let's talk about making out with Jason
Bateman unarrested development and being a part of that.

Speaker 2 (02:02):
Oh well, that was that was great. It's funny because
he was a friend of mine and I'm really good
friends with his wife. I was a little nervous because,
you know, even though it's just for the movies, and
I was sort of thinking of his wife, Amanda, and
so I was like, okay, but I have to act,
so you got to act. But yeah, he's he's a
terrific person and that set can you imagine. I just

(02:24):
was like, can I come here every day and watch
all of these genius comedians. It was that was I
wish I could have been, you know, on that many
more times. I mean, had a nice arc on that show.
But it was such a great set.

Speaker 1 (02:39):
You, John, You've had a chance to work with with
some people who I imagine must have just been a party.
I mean, whether it's Jason Bateman or Michael Perry. I mean,
it's just been an amazing career here. And this is
all part of this book, Say Everything, a New memoir
from Ione Sky. I noticed that you look back in

(03:01):
this book at the teenager you used to be. Whether sorry,
Matthew Perry, Like, what did I just say, Matthew Perry,
You look back at the teenager you were coming up
and acting and dating rock stars and all the rest
of this stuff. Does that person seem like a different
person when you look back at her.

Speaker 2 (03:23):
Well, I was more wide eyed and more you know,
I was a teenager, so I was concerned with teenage
things like like, I don't know, I actually with all
of them because we were all creative people. No one
really was aware of how famous we were at the time,
and it was sort of like minded people in a sense,

(03:45):
like River Phoenix and stuff. So it felt kind of
nice and just fun and being around like fun kids
who were just like turning me to the other, around
to music and you know whatever, like movies that we
liked and all of that. But of course now I'm
older and wiser, and I sort of couldn't understand things
from a different perspective and different people. So it's a

(04:07):
completely different experience because I was more just in my
feelings and you know, just thinking about you know, I
hope they like me. But also, isn't this fun We're
all like hanging out together. So yeah, of course, I
mean a completely different brain and a different time back
then to be working at that age.

Speaker 1 (04:25):
My daughter just turned eighteen a week ago, and I
think about all the fun I was having at eighteen.
I don't want her to have most of that fun
that either of us have now when we were teenagers.
And so it's a different perspective.

Speaker 2 (04:37):
That's why we're helicopter parents, I think, because we just
we want to know where our kids are at all times. Yeah,
and so it is a different generation of kids though,
and I don't know, so far, so good with my girls. Yes, yeah,
it's it's I think our generation are a little more
like hovering, trying to, you know, make sure that they're okay,
how they're feeling all of that.

Speaker 1 (04:59):
So if your girls want to run off with the
red hot chili peppers, first of all, I mean they're
definitely too old for your daughters now, right.

Speaker 2 (05:06):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, probably not the we talk. Yeah, I
just they're healthier than I was back then as far
as like boundaries and taking care of themselves, Like they're like,
I don't need to call that person back. You know.
I was like more of a people pleaser, and they're
already doing better than I was as far as like

(05:27):
knowing what they want and taking care of themselves mentally
a little better than I was back then.

Speaker 1 (05:32):
What do they think of Mom? Do they think you're
just totally lame like kids are supposed to think about us.

Speaker 2 (05:38):
Yeah, I thought I would never be not cool because
I'm considered cool, but they think i'm also they just
think I'm adorably like I am a bit eccentric and
flighty and you know, ethereal and they just think I'm hilarious,
but not in maybe the way that I want them
to think that's hilarious, but No, they do think I'm
quite hilarious. And I, you know, like any mom frustrate

(06:00):
them or you know, but they yeah, for sure. I've
already asked them if I lose my sense of fashion,
please let me know. And you know they have. They
were like, you gotta wear a belt, You got to
stop getting out of those big dresses. Just put on
some tighter clothes. Like they're already helping me keep it together.

Speaker 1 (06:18):
Yeah, did they call you bruh oh man, My fifteen
year old does. Yeah. And I get this. I wonder
if everyone gets that. Here we're talking for just a
few more minutes while ione Sky and so now we
got yourself in the role of mom and some kid
is out in your yard holding a nineteen eighties boombox

(06:39):
and blasting a song at the side of the house
for your daughter. What was incredibly sweet in the movie
say anything? How do you deal with that now as
a mom?

Speaker 2 (06:48):
I know, well, I know, I'm apparently it's a stalker
move these days, and back then it was just pure romance.
That's why I think a lot of people like that film. Actually,
now I was talking to some peace people who are
you know, they're like in their twenties, I guess. And
they said, it's just not like that in the dating
world anymore, Like there's not that level of romance, the
same type of romance. I mean, whether holding a boombox

(07:11):
out a window is like a good move or not.
And I almost couldn't understand what they meant. It was like, really,
it's not like that. That's sad. I hope it's like
as romantic as it ever was.

Speaker 1 (07:21):
No, I know, if they made say anything today, it
would be John Cusack meeting you and within a few
minutes he would be sending nude pics in your dms
on Instagram. It's not the same. No, it's just terrible.
Have you heard from fans of that movie who said
that actually worked for me? I've been married to this
guy for thirty years and he proposed after coming with

(07:44):
a boombox in the yard and a Peter Gabriel song.

Speaker 2 (07:48):
I've heard it from people, you know, how people invite
each other to proms, and it's like it's extravagant or elaborate.
Now that there's a whole thing. I think I've heard
of people doing that to invite girl to a prom,
but marriage, yeah, I've more heard like my husband Ben Lee.
He's got romantic songs. People are always using that for

(08:08):
their wedding songs, some of his songs. But yeah, I
don't know about the marriage, but the prom thing.

Speaker 1 (08:12):
Yes, do you even like that song by Peter Gabriel
or are you over it?

Speaker 2 (08:18):
No? I love it. It's like sometimes a friend will
text or call and say, I just heard the in
your Eyes and I thought of you and I mean
to be tied to that song as I As time
goes on, I'm like, this is that's amazing. I can't
believe it. Yeah, so nice to be tied to that song.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Yeah. Well, we're so happy to you have done exactly
as I pleaded with you to do so. You have
provided a ray of warmth and glow for us here
in the Omaha Metro this morning. There's one last thing.
We ask all of our favorite guests on this program
ione to say a line for us that we feel
is the best thing to hear first thing in the morning.

(08:55):
Would you be so kind as to say, good morning, honey,
I made you pancakes for breakfast.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
Please, good morning, honey, I made you pancakes for breakfast.

Speaker 1 (09:07):
That is so sweet and very fashionable. As well.

Speaker 2 (09:12):
Oh good spring, Spring is around the corner.

Speaker 1 (09:15):
Yeah, you tell tell your kids that we all think
you're very, very cool and always have. Thank you very
much for the time this morning, and best of luck
in your future. Talk to you absolutely. It is Ione
Sky here on news radio eleven ten KFAB again. The
new book is called Say Everything. Scott By Mornings nine
