Sword and Scale contains adult themes andviolence, and is not intended for all
audiences. Listener discretion is advised. What was the reason for that? It's
just to bring in a bathroom.Yeah, I don't know why we brought
her back into the bathroom. Iguess we didn't want to bring her into

(00:21):
the bedroom. And then yeah, and then Johnny slit her throat too.
Hello and welcome. This is seasontwo, episode two sixty eight of Sword
and Scale, a show that revealsthat the worst monsters are real. And

(00:53):
well, we have a new episodeof Sword and Scale television in case you
haven't seen it. It's episode four, the story of a Blood Cell,
and it really does prove that ifyou are a woman, my heart goes
out to you because men suck.About nine miles north of the city I

(01:42):
used to live in, Atlanta,Georgia is the small county of Gwinnette.
Within that county, there is aneven smaller city named Sawane. Swanee is
a progressive place with a rapidly increasingpopulation, and it is currently ranked by
CNN as number ten on their listof one hundred best places to live in

(02:06):
America. With a low cost ofliving, a low crime rate and a
fairly decent public education system. Sawaniis pretty much as ideal as it gets
for the typical middle class family. In twenty seventeen, there was a small
family living in Sewanee. They werethe Spencers. On April eighth, the

(02:28):
mom of the household, Linda Spencer, was at home with her fourteen year
old daughter that night at around ninethirty pm. Linda's daughter was in the
kitchen baking a cake when she heardsomeone knocking at the front door. It
was like, I'm gonna say, like nine forty five something like that last
night because my son wasn't off ofwork yet, between I guess nine thirty

(02:49):
nine and forty five. Then heknocked at the door and my daughter answered
it. She that had a toplot, so she thought it was her
brother, so she went to unlockit and lived to the people, I
was Johnny. So she opened thedoor and he walked in, and I
don't think he had any shoes on, but he had like a basketball and
a towel on his neck. Theyoung man at the door was nineteen year

(03:10):
old Johnny Ryder. Both Linda andher daughter knew Johnny. He was friends
with Linda's son When Johnny entered theirapartment, it was obvious that he was
having a very rough night. Johnnywas shirtless, his eyes were beat red,
and his nose was caked with dryblood. Also, Johnny wasn't alone

(03:34):
with him was a girl that lookedto be about Johnny's age, and what
do you know about her, whomnever seen before. Johnny and his presumed
girlfriend were distraught and had obviously justbeen through some sort of tragic and possibly

(03:54):
violent ordeal. So Linda asked Johnny, what happened? You know, upset?
And I said and asked, what'swrong? He said, he got
to a fight with his mom andshe pepper freed him and kicked him out
of the house. And I talkedto him for a few minutes, and
I gave him hug because he wascrying. He was really upset last night,
so I didn't ask him too muchabout it. I figure he'd talked

(04:15):
with my son about it when hegot mom. Linda didn't get many answers
out of Johnny other than he'd gotteninto a fight with his mom, who
apparently pepper sprayed him and threw himout of the house. Linda's teenage daughter,
who was with Johnny witnessed what hadhappened. All he said was,
hey, you know he was crying. He's like my mom, kepper surved

(04:39):
me of the house. I likehit something and I he pushes all the
way out out of the house. And I guess I'm figuring Cassandra's there because
she said that I got some ofthe pepper spray. Oh, guessing she
was there too. Linda's daughter alsolearned the name of the girl who was
with Johnny. She was seventeen yearold Cassandra Fyork. Now, how do

(05:00):
you know? So they've known eachother since I think middle school. I
think it was yeah, he's friend, and then we just met Cassandra last
night. He asked for to comein. So I don't know who she
is Cassandra or Cassandra Bjorg or Casey. She was known met Johnny through a

(05:24):
mutual friend, and the couple hadonly been dating for a short time.
So when did you and Johnny kindof start dating? When it was around
the time? We remember the lasttime I saw him, it was about
I don't think a month ago,so it was I was around then,

(05:46):
was it? One question by police, Casey explained what she witnessed happened between
Johnny and his mother, and likehis mom was started tripping out on this
thought we were intruders or whatever somethinglike she's certainly yelling at Johnny and like

(06:06):
going crazy. And then all ofa suddenly there was like pepper stray everywhere,
like like she's certainly pepper straying us, really is mom? Yeah?
Yeah, Like you know, shewas just like pepper spraying us, and
you know, like our eyes wereburning and like we were trying to sleep
to get away. After the fightingand pepper spraying ended, Johnny and Cassie

(06:30):
went to the only place that Johnnycould think of to go. They went
to Linda Spencer's apartment. Johnny wasfriends with Linda's son, Jacob, and
he was hoping to find Jacob there. Jacob was at work at the time
and the only people home were Lindaand her young daughter. Still, Linda
took Johnny and Cassie in and allowedthem to spend the night. Then the

(06:51):
next morning, something unexpected happened. When this sort of mad announcement was in
my room better friendly to my daughter. I thought it was a joke because
I knew that they were having coffeebefore I went into my bedroom. It's
I thought, I don't know theywas somebody with like a megaphone or something.
So I called my son. I'mthinking, and what the hell are
you doing? And then I lookedoutside the lines and I'm like, what

(07:13):
the hell is going on? BecauseI saw the vand with somebody up on
top. I mean, when Isaw a swat team with a van and
somebody, I was like, fuck. This was a police swat team stationed
themselves outside Linda's apartment, and througha megaphone, a SWAT officer ordered everyone
in Linda's apartment to come outside. When this happened, Linda's daughter went into

(07:39):
her brother's bedroom, where she foundJohnny and Cassie. First of all,
just gonna tell me what what happenedthis morning. I know you said you
were asleep and everything, but Icare what going on. I just woke
up and then all we heard wasthe sirens. Okay, you're freaking out.
And then we were like, what'sgoing on? And I'm like,
he's got sky go outside. Sothey said, oh yeah, my brother

(08:03):
and her mom just go outside.Yeah. Then I went to my brother's
room where they both were. Whowas there? Johnny and Cassandra who they're
there, and I was saying,I'm scared he was hugging this in It's
okay. Linda, her daughter, and her son promptly followed the instructions of
the swat team. They went outside, where they were detained and questioned.

(08:26):
Meanwhile, Johnny and Cassie remained inthe apartment and refused to go outside.
It turned out that most of whatthey told the Spencer family were lies.
Johnny's mom did not pepper spray himthe night before, and she did not
throw him out of the house. So you guys come home. You know,
Johnny was smoking weed in the livingroom with his girlfriend. Yeah,

(08:48):
it was smell. So Mindy wasas first. First as Mindy first entered
the house was did you smoke insidethe house? Moms coming in ten minutes.
And then we walked into Mindy's roomand as soon as we entered the
room, everything was just slipped.Everything like even her friends watch was gone,

(09:09):
half of her clothes were gone, and all her suffered was flipped,
like all the boxes private personal sufferflipped. So we were really mad.
Man. We knew Johnny did it, so we were asking him did do
it? And he was kick lying, so I was like, oh,
it's okay, shut room. Youknow, we can't call police about it.
On the evening of April eighth, twenty seventeen, twenty year old Mindy

(09:33):
Writer and her boyfriend went out todinner together and later arrived at Mindy's house.
When they walked outside, they sawMindy's younger brother, Johnny, and
his girlfriend Cassie on the living roomcouch. The house reeked of marijuana.
This was concerning because Mindy's mom wasexpected home at any minute. Eventually,

(09:54):
Mindy made her way to her bedroom. Once there, she found out that
she'd been sacked, and she suspectedthat her brother was the culprit behind said
ran sacking. When Mindy and herboyfriend confronted Johnny, they threatened to call
the police. At that point, all hell broke close, and I told

(10:15):
my brother, I know you didthis. You guys, you and your
girlfriend are the only ones I've beenhome, like, just own up to
like, just own up to itand tell me I won't call the cops
or anything. And at the timehe was on the phone with my mom
and he was like, so ifyou don't, if I own up to
it, you won't call the cops, and I said yes. So when
he hung up and I hung upon the police, I already died on
nine one one. And then allof a sudden, he goes out and

(10:39):
comes back in and just phrase usstraight in our faces and starts hitting us
and tells his girlfriend to go grabthe bat. As it's like a few
seconds later, I started getting bearstraight. It was at bear straight.
It wasn't even Pepper straight. SoI start getting for good ten seconds.

(11:00):
I wasn't in the room but thatgas stub room. For a whole time,
I had to fight for my lifeand Mindy. They also tried to
kill us. Johnny was holding myhead. He was telling her to small
cool patling pace, and she broughtthat. She brought the best. When
she hit the Mindy's head, herher head was opened, and I see

(11:22):
her coming with the bat and thefirst thing she has just hit me across
my back and I try to grabit from her and she hits me on
the head. And Kevin and Johnnyare fighting in my room, so I
chased her out to the living room. Well, who had the bad both
of the Johnny and the case thegirl, so both of them took turns
with the bad. Yes, sir, They each had a bad, each

(11:43):
had a bad We were all bloody. I eventually run to the bathroom and
I washed my face and I tryto get blood and the pupper spray.
Johnny and Cassie attacked Mindy and herboyfriend. They sprayed them with bare repellant
and attempted to beat them unconscious withbaseball bats. Eventually, Mindy retreated to

(12:05):
a bathroom where she could still hearthe fight and may him through the bathroom
door. I hear Kevin buy youmy brother, like Johnny, please don't
do this. You don't have todo this. And I went in the
room and Johnny had Kevin in achocoal and my brother's girlfriend was in there
with the bat, and so Iwas able to grab her by her and
I take the bat away from her, and I started hitting my brother,

(12:28):
telling him to let go, andthen I handed the bat to Kevin,
and then Kevin was going to hitmy brother, but my brother caught the
bat and then we all fought overthe bat and it was me and my
brother on my sofa, and thenKevin grabbed a beer bottle and told Johnny
to stop to just let us goand we won't do anything. But my
brother said he will never do that, and so Kevin hit him on the

(12:50):
top of the head with a beerbottle and it shattered. We kept fighting
for the baseball bat and then hetold his girl, so they'll get a
hammer, like a big steel hammerlike this space we after Johnny had Johnny
was like, bring a hammer. He called her to bring a hammer,

(13:11):
and it on our heads. Essentially, Johnny and Cassie tried to murder Mindy
and her boyfriend. Thankfully, theirattempt to commit double homicide was unsuccessful.
But how'd you guys break away fromthem? They just left? No,
I fought to it. So Ithought, if I didn't want to defend
or defend Indy, we would havebeen possibly then okay, so you focked

(13:33):
them off and then they just leftand her mom came a car leaving a
car or what happened is missing?Okay. Eventually Mindy's mom showed up,
and when she did, Johnny andCassie fled. On their way out,
they snatched Mindy's car keys and stoleher car. According to Mindy, this

(13:56):
wasn't the first time that her brother, Johnny stole something. Johnny had a
criminal history and at the time ofthe attack, he was on probation.
What a great system. I'm notsure she already, but he has previous
criminal charges and my mom's still pilledpaying his bill right now. Four going

(14:18):
into vehicles and taking people's things cars. After fleeing the scene and stealing Mindy's
car, Johnny and Cassie drove toLinda Spencer's apartment again. Johnny was friends
with Linda's son and he was hopingto find her son there. Linda's son
was at work at the time, but he did eventually come home and speak

(14:39):
to Johnny. I was at work, so I didn't get here to attend,
so I didn't see. What's yourma say? Why do you?
Who do you show up with Cassandraor Cassie whatever he is? Have you
met her before? You know? No, I've only I only saw her
at high school. I never talkedto her anything. So he showed up
with Cassie. What did he say? Why was just show up? He

(15:01):
said that well, he got peppersprayed by his mom, and he told
me that he was just talking toher and that she got she's pepper sprayed
in the face, and then shekicked him out and then came over here
nowhere to go hitting me on doyou really think as mob Pepper sprayed him.
Johnny and Cassie lied to the Spencerfamily about what happened, and Linda

(15:24):
Spencer agreed to let them spend thenight at her home. The next morning,
a swat team came looking for themboth. Watch'll who you let stay
in your home people, especially ifthey show up shirtless and bloody in the
middle of the night. When thecops showed up, what did Johnny wondered?
How did Johnny act? Well,we didn't know who they were calling

(15:46):
for because we couldn't hear. Andthen I said, Johnny, there for
you. He's like, He's likeokay, and he just kind of sat
He's kind of sat there and wastalking to Cassandra. He was saying,
I'm not going back to jail. And I was like, Johnny, you
have to out there. I toldhim that you can't do that us.
The Spencer family left their home andwere promptly questioned by police. Meanwhile,

(16:10):
Johnny and Cassie remained inside the Spencerapartment. I like to know what makes
this guy click or something obviously snapped, and I don't know, I want
to say, because he also beatthe ship out of his sister and his
sister's boyfriend with a baseball bat.She had I guess seven staples in the
head. Uh, there's a welton her back. The boyfriend got his

(16:34):
tooth chipped out. Cindy yep,so something something trigger, something triggered him.
So he's a very he's a veryangry person. The attack on Mindy
and her boyfriend was brutal, andas the police continued investigating, they came
to find that this attack didn't justhappen out of the blue because of an

(16:56):
argument about a messy bedroom. Thisattack was planned. Johnny fully intended to
murder his sister and her boyfriend.I really think they planned this before.
Kyle blamed that because I told himmy mom's ten minutes away, and they
seemed kind of shocked, and thenthey seemed really calm, and then they

(17:21):
sprayed us and tried to knock usout. Thankfully, Johnny was unsuccessful in
his attempt to kill Mindy and herboyfriend. The young couple was able to
defend themselves. Unfortunately, this wasn'tJohnny's first attempt at double homicide, and
his earlier victims weren't as lucky.A few days before Johnny attempted to kill

(17:45):
his own sister, he violently attackedan unsuspecting married couple as they slept and
brutally murdered them with a tire ironand a butcher knife. In April of

(18:25):
twenty seventeen, twenty year old MindyRider and her boyfriend were brutally attacked inside
their home. They were sprayed withbear repellent and beaten with baseball bats.
Thankfully, the attack ended before eitherof them lost their lives. The culprits
behind the violence were Mindy's younger brother, nineteen year old Johnny Ryder, and

(18:47):
his girlfriend, Cassie bjorg. Seventeenyear old Cassie lived in Gwinnette County,
Georgia. When Cassie was about fifteenor sixteen, she moved out of her
mom's house to live with her grandparents, Wendy and Randall b Yorke.
According to their neighbors, this movethat Cassie made was done out of necessity

(19:07):
and I never really asked Wendy anyquestions about it, Like, I just
let her tell me what she wantedto talk about yeah, I guess,
and Randolph found out that Cassie wasbeing sexually abused by her father or her
stepdad, so you know, theyfiled for emergency custody because Amanda, her

(19:27):
Wendy and Randall's daughter, wasn't doinganything. Late. Allegedly, Cassie had
been sexually assaulted by her stepfather andCassie's mom hadn't done anything to stop the
abuse. So Cassie's grandparents took Cassiein and despite their best efforts to help,
things didn't go well. Cassie wasunruly and the very definition of a

(19:52):
troubled teenager. Who could blame her? Say again, it sounds like there
was a history of something like that. She was in and out all the
time running away. Last time sheran away she was gone for months,
okay, and she had been inand out since then. The problem is
that Cassie was having went beyond instancesof her running away from home. Cassie

(20:17):
was also extremely violent towards her grandparents. I mean, the calls had been
called out to her house and abunch of times, and like she was
on probation during this time for hittingher grandma. So it was the one
instance where she bought her grandmother. What did Cassie say happen? She said
that they got to an argument Wendybidder and then she hit her back to

(20:38):
defend herself where she I mean, she went Wenny's ass when it was pretty
bad. Wendy had showed me allthe bruises, and she did bought Cassie,
but she bought her because Cassie waschecking her out. Cassie literally had
her own around her neck like this, and Wendy squeezed her shin down the
bit of like you. Cassie droppedout to school and was put on probation

(21:00):
in February. They say long termbehavioral issues led to her grandparents taking custody.
The family tried to remove her froma bad crowd and dilute to stability
with her grandparents in Lawrenceville, butthere were at least thirteen calls to police
and assault charges for striking a grandparent. One question, Cassie freely admitted that
her relationship with her grandparents wasn't goodand that she did assault them on multiple

(21:26):
occasions, though from her teenage perspective, she felt justified in doing so.
I wasn't having a good relationship withmy grandparents, like it just it started
getting really bad, you know, like that I got a charge from him
because you know, like I thoughtthem, you know, I might have
broken like my grandpa's grips when youknow, for that charge for simple assault

(21:48):
and simple battery. You know, they didn't really know what to do.
They didn't really know how to mearound me. I guess they didn't really
know how to talk to me.As a result of Cassie's violence towards her
grandparents, she was placed on probationand several attempts were made to make Cassie

(22:08):
understand that her grandparents were just tryingto help her. Wendy and Randall only
wanted the best for Cassie. Andthen my grandma just got really angry with
me, and she told me thatshe was going to kick me out and
hoe she was going to find somewhereelse for me to stay. So in

(22:30):
like a couple of days, soI was like, okay, so I
just left anyway. And I wasjust like, you know, if you
don't want me that I might aswell just leave now. Oh I knew
that because knew she called us andso that you'd run away again, and
that she was concerned and worried aboutyou. Your grandmother loves you, right,

(22:52):
you know how much your grandmother lovesyou. In April of twenty seventeen,
Cassie violated her probation by running awayfrom home again after yet another argument
with her grandparents. So I didn'tknow what to do. I just going
in to christ I'm just angry, and then like, did this happen?

(23:14):
Well? Tell me about this this? I don't know what is this?
What happened here? I tried tokill myself. When Cassie was questioned,
she had large bandages on both ofher arms because she had recently attempted suicide
by slitting both of her wrists.I just wanted to late to end it.
They just fell like so much, and so I tried to overdose and

(23:37):
they tried to slippers. And yousaid Johnny was present when you did this?
Did he try to stop you?Did he? What did he say?
Why did he do the same thing? And they brought you here?
Who found you? It was likethe swat team was looking for me.

(23:57):
About a week after Cassie ran awayfrom home, she and her new boyfriend,
Johnny Ryder attacked Johnny's older sister andher boyfriend. They spread the couple
with bear repellent and beat them withbaseball bats, essentially trying to kill them.
Like all that really happened was meand Johnny were just chewing on his

(24:17):
couch and watching TV. And thenyou know, his sister, you know,
comes in the house and I goto the bathroom, and then you
know, like I started hearing youknow, fighting and stuff, and so
you know, I separate myself, you know, from that situation, and
then his mom comes home and thenthey just started yelling like crazy, and
then his mom got to pepper sprayand he started pepper spray and I said

(24:40):
it, We're just like, okay, let's leave. How did the baseball
bat get introduced into that bat?She has an injury, we're trying to
understand, and she got she hadan injury to her head, That's what
I was told. I don't knowanything about that. I didn't I didn't
even know there was a baseball. But she got injured pretty badly. Really

(25:04):
is she okay, She's gonna befine. But she got injured that night
from an altercation that you and Johnnyhad with her her boyfriend who not her
boyfriend. See that I must havebeen Johnny. When questioned about the attack
on Johnny's sister, Cassie led herass off, and she was quickly called

(25:25):
out for doing so. Cassie, listen, I'm never lying to you,
have I I've never misled you,and I've had to take you some pretty
bad news in the past, rightI need you to really truly be honest.
Okay, sweetie, Okay, andI know you pretty good and I
don't think you're being completely honest withme. Eventually, Cassie did admit to

(25:48):
her part in the attack, soshe claimed that it was all self defense.
Did you hit him with the bat? Is she coming to you or
something? You were defending yourself.I defend myself at me when you hit
her. Was it that I didn't? I didn't need to, you know,
she was coming at me. Ididn't know what to do. I

(26:08):
didn't. I didn't think I didthat much injury. I didn't seem you
know, her boyfriend broke his teeth, you know. Police investigators slowly got
Cassie to admit to partial truths aboutthe attack, but that wasn't the only
thing that she was questioned about. The investigators had questions about and even more

(26:29):
serious crime. I think you knowwhy I'm here, and you know my
heart is broken. I just needto understand why I wasn't the one who
intentionally thought about it, thought aboutdoing it. Say it once she say
it. It's out killing my grandparentsBefore attacking Johnny's sister and her boyfriend,

(26:57):
Cassie and Johnny had a attacked Cassie'sgrandparents, who were not able to escape
the attack. Wendy and Randall Bjorgwere dead, and they hadn't just been
murdered. Their deaths were unspeakably brutal. Wendy and Randall had been horrifically beaten

(27:22):
and butchered to death. On Aprilninth, twenty seventeen, seventeen year old

(27:57):
Cassie Bjorg was arrested with her boyfriend, nineteen year old Johnny Ryder, for
brutally attacking Johnny's older sister and herboyfriend, though Georgia investigators suspected that Cassie
and Johnny had more than just twovictims. On the day before they were
arrested, Gwinnett County Police conducted awelfare check on the home of Cassie's grandparents,

(28:22):
Wendy and Randall Bjorg. When policegot no response, they forced their
way inside and discovered the bloody aftermathof a very violent and brutal double murder.
Wendy and Randall were dead. WhenCassie was questioned about her grandparents' deaths,
she explained how her plot to killthem developed, and before he did

(28:47):
that, did you and Johnny meetup somewhere in a park or something?
Then talk about park? He firstasked me, are you afraid to die?
And I said no. He wasjust talking about how we could like
run away together, you know,I kind of like dream and he asked
me, he was like, wecould kill your grandparents. And I kind

(29:10):
of like hesitated for a minute, and I was like why, and he
was just like, I don't know. I mean, because he knows probably
everything that I've been through with allof my family. When you guys met
at the park, did he didhe ever go over the actual plan on
how you guys would do it oranything like that or what was that?

(29:30):
Uh? Well, I mean wewere just trying to figure out how to
get money. Cassie and Johnny decidedthat they were going to rob and murder
Cassie's grandparents on a night in earlyApril. They arrived at their home to
do exactly that. So we decidedto go around like midnight or one thirty,

(29:52):
because my grandma normally went to sleeparound like eleven thirty twelve. We
decided, like you know, wemade park down the road. Cassie and
Johnny snuck through Wendy and Randall's backyardand entered the home through a back door.
Since Cassie lived there, she hada key, so getting inside was

(30:14):
not a problems. We went upstairs. We needed a little We didn't immediately
go upstairs like. We went tothe stairs and we were like just listening,
just hearing what was going on.We got everything was good, and
then we went upstairs and did youguys have anything in your hands or he
just had car tools. It wasa tire iron. He brought a black

(30:41):
book bag that dug tape in itwith a tire iron and duct tape at
the ready. Cassie and Johnny reachedthe grandparents' bedrooms. At this stage in
their life and marriage, the coupledid not sleep in the same room,
so Cassie and Johnny split up.He goes into my Grandpa's room and then

(31:03):
I go into my grandma's room.Do you hear kind of what's going on
over there? And does that kindof cute you off to with your grandmother
there? Yeah, he's he startedgoing at it, and then you know,
I could hear my grandpa just yelling, you know, them fighting,
and then I started eating the rushand then you know, like that's when
I started hitting my grandma in thehead. After hearing their grandfather's screams,

(31:26):
Cassie approached her sleeping grandmother and beganbeating her over the head with a tire
iron. I like hit her reallyhard on the back of the head,
and then she started like screaming andstuff and that the head. Yeah,
that's where I magally hit her inthe head. So I started hitting my

(31:49):
grand law and I already had ducttape, and then you know, Johnny's
doing his thing, and you know, I stopped hearing Johnny doing whatever,
and so he comes in the roomlistening and my grandma, and you know,
he helps me like tie up mygrandma with the duve tape. How
you tie how did you do?That's just her hands or your hands?

(32:12):
I got her whole head and thenI got her ankles and then I dragged
her into my grandpa's room, andthe Johnny asked me to go get some
knives. So I got some knivesfrom downstairs in the kitchen and I got
three big butcher knives. And thenthat's when you started like stabbing my grandpa.
And then when when Johnny's uh,stabbing your grandfather, is it mainly

(32:37):
in the torso or yeah, hejust I don't know why he did that,
but he just kept going how manytimes? More than two? More
five? More than five? Morethan five? Well wrapped in duct tape
after being viciously beaten, Wendy Bjorgwatched in horror as the man who had

(32:58):
just been her husband for over fortyyears was brutally stabbed and sliced to death.
Yeah. I mean, like shekept saying, like, I'll give
you money, I'll give you mykeys, you know, I'll give you
anything you want. You know,I went in the closet because that's where
they kept the safe, So youknow, I go in there. You
know, I'm checking out all thestuff, and I grabbed the book bag

(33:20):
and I just start stuffed in thebook bag with everything, you know,
Like there was envelopes just filled withmoney. There was probably about like one
thousand dollars that we found in thatsafe. So after that, he slips
my grandpa's throat and then we draggedmy grandma into the bathroom. After the
safe was looted, Wendy was broughtinto her bathroom, where her life also

(33:45):
came to a horrific and brutal end. I actually hit her in the back
of the head with the tire rightwell not the back of the head,
but like right where your spine is, because he was telling me, he
was like, if you hit rightthere, like just one like a hit,
just knock the person out and thenthey'll be dead. And she was
like pretending to be dead for awhile. Like I would, you know,

(34:07):
check up on her, and Iwould see that she was still breathing,
and I'll be like, Johnny, she's still alive. What the heck?
And then like Johnny finally like likemade the like last blow and then
yeah, and then Johnny slit herthroat too, and she It was was

(34:29):
kind of creepy because she was likescared to die, like she she shittered
herself. It was kind of cross. All the looting and murder that Johnny
and Cassie had done left them kindof hungry, So when they were done,
they decided to grab a bite toeat. When you guys love more,

(34:49):
you guys go to We went overto like Kroger or public to girl
get something to eat, and thenwe went back to the house. So
it just kind of like chilled there. Did you guys kind of just stay
in the house then, or yeah, it was kind of both and you're
kind of like in and out ofthe house for a couple of days.
It was just me and him.Did you guys ever chill with anyone during

(35:12):
that week at all? Or yeah, yeah, child, we show up
with some of his friends. Whenmy friends and you know, we would
just go meet up with them.We would never have anyone come over to
the house. We were just like, that's that's a no. That's a
big no no. Johnny and Cassiestayed in Wendy's and Randall's home for days
after the murders. They slept downstairswhile the corpses of their victims remained upstairs.

(35:37):
They didn't even have the common decencyto clean up after themselves. Gussie
claimed that she and Johnny were theonly two people in the house during that
time, but that was a lie. Yes, I was inside the house
while they were dead. I didn'tknow that they were done. That's the
main things. I don't know whenexactly it was, but they had been

(35:58):
inside the house for a while becauseyou could smell it once you walked inside
the house, both walking, andit smells like shit. Now you're saying
it smells like shit? What isit? I didn't think anything of it,
because I did, and Johnny saidthat it was just because he hadn't
flush the toilet. I didn't reallythink much of us because the entire house

(36:22):
was trash, like. They hadso much Chinese food on the floor that
the black cat was eating and allthis stuff. The cops knew Cassie lied
to them because one of Cassie's friendsrecorded a short video with their cell phone
while they were inside the house. After the video was revealed to Cassie,
she had no choice but to admitto inviting friends over. Now. I

(36:45):
have trouble inviting friends over, evenreally close friends, if the guest room
hasn't been cleaned up in a while. So to have corpses upstairs and invite
people over that goes beyond my levelof understanding. For a day, I'm
just asking for in. Seven daysafter you guys killed your grandparents, Sunshine
and Alex were at your house.Yes, what did you guys do?

(37:08):
You may have noticed that throughout herconfession, Cassie showed no emotion. She
was cold and didn't shed one tearfor her grandparents, not one. Yet,
when she was called out for herlying, something bizarre happened. Cassie

(37:30):
weirdly showed emotion. You literally haveshowed no emotion towards your grandparents. And
I don't have a problem, likeI don't know the life that you were
having, But why are you showingemotion with when I brought up Sunshine?
What the hell is this chick? You know what I'm saying. She's just
a close friend. It only seemsthat you're sorry you got caught that you

(37:55):
head people over after. You don'tseem to be sorry that you killed your
grandparents. I am. I'm justletting you know. I'm just letting you
know. A few days after Wendyand Randall were dead, Johnny and Cassie
decided that they were going to commitmore murder. They hadn't had enough.

(38:15):
They wanted some more, so thistime they set their sights on members of
Johnny's family, because how close youcommit murder to your own home is a
direct correlation of your level of stupidity. In fact, any kind of crime
looting for example, if you lootin your own neighborhood, you're a fucking

(38:37):
idiot. The plan was that wewere both going to get both of our
families, but first we got mygrandparents. And then's why we went over
to Johnny's house and we attacked hissister and her boyfriend because we were he
wanted to kill his family. Okay, so that's late. We stayed in
town for a couple of days becauseyou know, we wanted to get some

(38:59):
money, wanted to get ready toleave, and then that plan just going
over to his house kind of justlike it didn't work out at all.
It just went it went downhill fromthere. Johnny and Cassie went to Johnny's
mom's house. Once there, theytrashed the place looking for money. Then
when his sister and her boyfriend arrivedat the house, Cassie and Johnny attacked

(39:22):
them with bear spray and baseball bats. We had a bear repellet that we
bought from Bass Pro Shop. Whatwas that for? For the just to
like get them away or to likekind of like knock them out. That
stuff is strong, like yeah, this stuff, Oh my gosh, it
was so crazy, like it wasjust all rush, like it was just

(39:45):
the spray was going everywhere, andit was like like your eyes were burning,
like your body was burning. Itwas so painful. And who did
you guys spray? Who got sprayedwith that? H? When did Johnny's
sister and her boyfriend? Johnny andCassie didn't anticipate that when you use bear

(40:06):
repellent in a confined space like ahouse, everyone in the space is going
to feel the effects. You wantto know why they didn't assume that.
That's because they were fucking stupid.Criminals are usually fucking stupid. In short,
their plan to commit another double murderdidn't really go as planned. Johnny's

(40:30):
sister and her boyfriend were able tofight off the attack, and when Johnny's
mom came home, Cassie and Johnnyfled. They stole his sister's car and
drove away in a panic. Thenext day, the SWAT team arrested them,
but not before both Johnny and Cassietried and failed to commit suicide by

(40:51):
slitting their wrists. Of course, this is something they would also fail at.
And as for the incident that happenedwith Johnny's place, you're charged with
two content assault and obviously with yourgrandparents, now you're being in charge of
malus murder for your grandmother and thenmalos murder for your grandfather. After Cassie

(41:15):
confessed, there wasn't much left todo but Charter and Johnny with a slew
of crimes. Of course, therewere some non legal and important questions worth
asking, like I don't know why? Why? Why? Why would you
do this? Why? How couldthese teenage morons be so vicious and cold

(41:39):
blooded towards their own families, theirown flesh and blood, the people that
gave them life. What could havepossibly happened in their lives to lead them
down to this very, very lowpoint. As far as Johnny is concerned,
we really don't have a lot ofanswers. He may just be a

(42:00):
moron and that's it. There's lotsof those in this country. Unfortunately,
it seems that nobody who knew Johnnyeven saw this coming. But people close
to a killer rarely admit that theydo, because then a bunch of other
questions need to be asked and hey, you know who wants that kind of
responsibility. Well, I don't knowwhat he was going through Johnny's mind,

(42:22):
because, like I'm at him acouple of times, and like a lot
of people didn't know him, andhe didn't see him like the type to
like killing you, and he justwanted to keep buying like he was really
nice. The investigators, trying tomake sense of things, did sit down
and speak with Johnny, though theirconversation was brief and didn't dive too deeply

(42:43):
into his thought process about killing people. Where'd you go to high school?
Did you graduate from there? Doingcollege? Then? I didn't do the
act of college. How do youmean Cassie, how does she come in

(43:07):
this? Did she go to schooler? Or did you just a girl?
What do you mean trippy? Justa lot of spirit or spirits? You
know that Johnny seemed like a normalteenager. He had some misdemeanor charges for

(43:32):
theft, but otherwise he came offlike a typical kid. After a few
minutes of being questioned by detectives,Johnny asked for a lawyer, which shut
down his interview. Are you okaytalk with us right now? Without a
number. I was just mm hm, I don't really feel comfortable. From

(43:55):
Cassie's perspective, it seemed like Johnnywas in a similar but as her.
According to Cassie, Johnny felt thathe was being disrespected by his mom.
The way I saw their relationship washis mom, you know, would get
out of him a lot, saying, you know, like you're not doing
anything with your life and blah blahblah. When he had, like he

(44:17):
just got out of jail, hehad two jobs, he was back in
school. He you know, hewas, you know, getting and shit
together, and then you know, his mom kept saying, you know,
like you're just worthless, you know, you're not doing anything. On top
of the issues that Johnny was havingwith his mother, he may have also
been dealing with some serious mental issues, though the things that indicated mental illness

(44:42):
might have been an act. Atone point, Johnny left his mom a
very haunting voicemail, and it's hardto tell if this message is genuine or
if it's just theatrics. It's true, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I'm

(45:08):
sorry to speak. As far asCassie is concerned, she too had issues

(45:30):
with the adults in her life.Specifically her grandparents, though it seems like
she had no legitimate reason to dislikethem. After Wendy and Randall borg gained
custody of Cassie, all they didwas show her the kind of love and
care that any teenager would be luckyto have. They got custody of her,

(45:52):
and then right after that happened theirsurprise relaters in Disney World, and
then last last summer they went.Yeah, they went to China for her
for judo stuff. Wendy and Randalltook Cassie on special vacations. They enrolled
her in school and encouraged her interests. Cassie liked martial arts, so her

(46:14):
grandparents paid for her to have martialarts classes. Cassie even attended a final
judo class a day or so aftershe killed her grandparents. By all accounts,
is Cassie's caretakers, Wendy and Randallwent above and beyond just looking and
talking to their grandparents, friends andall that. It seemed like they really

(46:36):
cared about her and they took sucha care like she had it, like
she's honestly, like I don't knowwhy she was after I mean, like
I did love Cassie this person likeshe honestly was like a really selfish person
hearing about herself, did all ofa sudden just snap or like That's what
I'm kind of looking for is werewhat was a snapping point? Because I've
actually talked to some people back inthe day who says she was a sweet

(46:59):
girl and no problems. She hada really fun side, but when she
didn't get her way. The angerissues were that Cassie had anger issues.
That much is clear. She violentlyattacked her grandparents on multiple occasions. But
Cassie was also self centered and narcissistic. She wanted things to be her way

(47:22):
and didn't care who she had tohurt to get what she wanted. But
I think that it was building up. I don't think it was anything where
she snapped, because when I talkedto her on the walk that her and
I wa on, I'm like,so, what's your deal? I mean,
you know that your grandparents love you, like they're doing everything they can
to get customs. What's the worldcalled? She just said that she was

(47:45):
tired of being her parents instead ofher grandparents. She said, I'm tired
of them always told me what todo. She said, before you know
it was always fun and she's like, now they're always up my ass and
I'm like, when you realize, like you just do what they're asking me
to do. She didn't think, she said, I cross you. I

(48:06):
said, you don't give a fuck, meaning like what you and I were
talking about, what like narrow thatdown for me. She's like, I
don't give the fun of that. And she's like, I just want to
slow do what I want to doand I don't want anybody up my ass
about it. I'm like, sodo a job and move out. Allegedly,

(48:27):
Cassie was sexually abused by her stepfather, which is why she was living
with their grandparents in the first place. If these sexual abuse allegations are true,
that's certainly a terrible trauma that Cassiehad to endure. It shouldn't be
ignored, and it may have beenwhat tipped the scale in her life.

(48:50):
However, many teenagers have unfortunately beenvictimized in this sort of way, and
that experience does not drive them tocommit murder, not excuse any further bad
actions by that person. You don'tget a free pass just because you were
abused. It seems that fundamentally,Cassie was just a selfish and heartless brat

(49:15):
who couldn't see or didn't care tosee that her grandparents only wanted to help
her. I mean, do youfeel bad about what happened? Do you
think she deserves what happened or what? You know, how are you feeling
right now? I'm not in yourshoes my grandparents? Yeah, I mean
I was pretty kissed at her foryou know, the couple times that you
know, like she would call thecops on me for you know, no

(49:37):
reason. Sometimes you're like they kindof just like really messed up everything,
you know, like I had tobe home at a certain time, and
I couldn't feel as much stuff asI, you know, used to do.
You know, they really made meangry with you. You know,
I used to just be able todo whatever. Just like a lot of
the stuff that she would say wouldbe really offensive. I just wanted to

(50:00):
get away from all of that, you know, Like I was so tired
of dealing with my family. Idon't know, I just saw, was
your mom ever part of the plan? Oh? Killing him? I wanted
to. Seventeen year old Cassie didnot like having a curfew. She didn't

(50:21):
like to be told what to do. Nobody does. After all, she
was offended by the guidelines of herprobation and the rules were grandparents set in
place the rules that were there forher own well being. So Cassie brutally
murdered her grandparents. That was hersolution. She and her boyfriend used to

(50:42):
tire iron and kitchen knives to beatand butcher Wendy and Randall Bjorg to death.
Well, I mean, unfortunately,I believe you're kind of born with
it. I think she's a straysocial past. So I just told her
there's nowhere when you don't have anyremorse in that. And I, miss,
I think you're kind of born withthat gene. Something makes it come
out in you and snap, andyou know, Unfortunately, I think there's

(51:05):
like four percent of people in thatcountry are social past. So after Cassie
and Johnny were arrested, the courtproceedings played out as expected. Cassie and
Johnny had no legitimate defense for theiractions, so the best they could hope
for was a deal from prosecutors, which they eventually got. Tonight, a

(51:27):
lot of you reacting pretty strongly onour Facebook page after two teenagers were sentenced
to life in prison with the chanceof parole after pleading guilty to murdering two
grandparents. Cassee bi old Guy andJohnny Ryder won't be eligible for parole for
at least sixty years. The twoof them will be almost eighty years old
by then. Johnny and Cassie willlikely never see the outside of a prison

(51:51):
facility again. I guess you cancall that justice, but it's certainly a
small consolation for the people who knewand loved Wendy and Randall. This couple
was sixty three years old when theywere killed. Sixty three imagine living on
earth for sixty three years only tobe killed by your own granddaughter. And

(52:15):
at that time, they were morethan just Cassie's caretakers. They were genuinely
good people who had a lot ofclose friends. A quick read of the
countless heartfelt comments left on their onlineobituaries makes it pretty clear that Wendy and
Randall were kind, giving and willingto help just about anyone in need.

(52:37):
At the same time, anybody couldbring her door, well, she didn't
open her door for anybody like shewas just the sweetest lady. After Cassie
moved in with her grandparents and beganassaulting them. Wendy Biorg quickly recognized the
risk she was taking, but thatdidn't stop her. Wendy's heart was too

(53:00):
big. Her hating you, andnow she's sitting Randall like it's just getting
more and more aggressive. You're notgoing thron She's like you, she said,
as a friend, what the helldo you say? So she knew?
I think she just loved her duringconditionally. She didn't want to feel

(53:23):
like she turned a rack on herlike everybody off that. Hey, I
believe I love someone too much too. Cassie's grandparents loved her, and that
love was unconditional. In fact,if we were somehow able to communicate with
the dead despite what Cassie did tothem, Wendy and Randall would probably tell

(53:45):
us that they still only want thebest for their granddaughter. Sadly, Cassie's
sociopathic nature will never allow her tocare or even understand what any of that
means. Her little brain is justincapable. Like the detective said, this

(54:08):
is a case where two very kindpeople loved someone too much. Wendy and
Randall loved a monster. Tragically thatmonster killed them. Well that's gonna do

(54:47):
it. For another one. Whydon't you go ahead and upgrade today to
