(00:23):
announcement. Comcast unveiled a fifteen dollarsper month streaming bundle that includes Peacock,
Netflix, and Apple TV. Now, I know what you're all thinking.
Cool, but could we get thatwithout Peacock? Nobody wants Peacock. Hi,
I'm Kenny Webster. Thanks for tuningin. We'll actually be talking about
the entertainment industry quite a bit thisafternoon. This show that for the next

(00:44):
hour, we'll be talking about twothings a lot, Hollywood and Texas and
the intersection between Hollywood politics and it'sthe effect that Hollywood is having on the
state of Texas. We'll get toall that before we get any of it.
Can I talk about something that hasnothing to do with any Oh,
by the way, a lot ofguests here too. David Covey's stopping by.
He's Dade Falan's challenger. He's goingto call us from the campaign trail.

(01:07):
Christian Collins, creator of the TexasYouth Summit's going to be here.
It'll be calling us from the TexasRepublican Convention in San Antonio, and stand
up comedian Tim Mathis is stopping by, So stick around for all that.
But, like I was about tosay, before we get to any of
that, let's talk about something thathas nothing to do with any of it,
something we predicted many times on thisradio show. If we're involved in
a warren Yemen that nobody's talking about, but we are. If we're involved

(01:30):
in a warren Ukraine that you hearway too much about. If we're involved
in a warren Israel, not tomention what's going on in Syria with Hesbela,
that's four wars. If you wereChina, you know what I'm about
to say, aren't you? Ifyou were China, wouldn't this be the
perfect time to mess with Taiwan.Well turns out it is townhall dot Com

(01:53):
today reporting it has been a weirdday for Taiwan. Military vessels and planes
surrounded Taiwan from all signs as thePeople's Republic of Communism launched what they're calling
an Exercise Joint Sword to conduct thePeople's Liberation Army exercises in Jiji Ping's escalating
harassment of the Republic of China, and that's what's going on right now.

(02:14):
The latest attempt and intimidating Taiwan isa punishment, as they put it,
according to the PRC, for theROC's inauguration of a new president earlier this
week, something Beijing views as aseparatist act. Because Taiwan has a new
leader, the Communist Chinese have togo out and conduct military exercises around the

(02:35):
island, and the drills, someof which involve live fire, are being
carried out in the Taiwan Straight that'soff the islands north, south, and
east coasts and in the vicinity ofsmaller islands around Taiwan. So this is
a joint see and air exercise orexercises. It includes warships, it includes
military aircrafts, and it's all intendedby President Jiji Ping and the Chinese Communist

(02:57):
Party to escalate its threats against Taiwanindependence and wave off help from Taiwan's friends
and partners. Aka us okay, let me put that in different terms,
AKA Joe Biden. You know,a couple of days ago, a few
days ago, the Republic of China. That's Taiwan inaugurated its new president.
They have a new president named Liching Tey, and it was supposed to

(03:19):
be a peaceful transition of power fromthe former president Sai Ng when that demonstrated
a very vibrant, liberalized democracy thatexists in Taiwan. Is Taiwan perfect?
No, it's not, but kindof like Israel life in Taiwan. Taiwan's
government, Taiwan's political system looks anawful lot closer to the United States than
it does to their adversaries over thereaka the Chinese Communist Party. So that

(03:45):
area that's surrounding Taiwan there and what'sgoing on with these military exercises. It
all comes after Xijinping's military carried outthe largest ever incursion into Taiwan's air defense
and identification zone. It all happenedlast week during the inauguration and it's still
going on now. They're doing thisfor a reason, they're poking the bear.

(04:08):
Essentially, this training for an invasionof Taiwan would come as part of
Jijinping's reunification. It's a nice soundingword that would involve destroying Taiwan's freedom by
forcing it into a full blown militaryoperation against Taiwan. That's what they want.
They want full blown war. Theydon't want US involved, and they're
waiting until now to do this becausethey know full well this this has nothing

(04:30):
to do with the President's inauguration, and this has everything to do with the
fact that Taiwan's biggest ally, akaUS, has exhausted our resources and we're
in the middle of a four differentwars and a presidential election of our own
at the moment. Can we saveTaiwan from the Communist Party? It's an
interesting question. Another interesting question shouldbe should we. I'd love to know

(04:54):
what you guys think. Leave mea voicemail message. Download the iHeartRadio app.
I haven't done these in a while, so I'll play a whole bunch
of them for you guys tomorrow. The iHeartRadio app has a feature in it
called the talkback feature. You couldpush a button you could tell me what
you think about this news story, what should America do about Taiwan? Download
the app, leave a little voicemailmessage using the talkback feature, and you

(05:15):
will hear them on tomorrow show.Yeah, let's get straight to discussion.
Were here to talk about something aboutpolitics? And government and naics, hit
and code glut, San this showhit, ain't you average this podcast?
You gotta get you tone? Dan? We can this this push some happiness.

(05:39):
Oh we're back. Very exciting weekend. I mean, yeah, it's
Memorial Day weekend for most of us, but for people that are really involved
in Texas politics, this weekend isthe RPT, the Republican Party of Texas
convention going down in San Antonio. And what's really amazing to me, I'm
really I'm actually really impressed by this. One of the people that is the

(06:00):
most discussed member of the far andaway the person everybody in the party's talking
about more than anyone right now, other than Trump obviously or some of the
party leaders, is David Covey.Friend of the show. You know,
this guy from the Beaumont Port Arthur, Orange area ARNGE I believe they call
it. He is the underdog,he's the contender. He's not at the

(06:21):
convention. You'd think he'd be atthe convention, but he's not because this
week is early voting for the Republicanprimary runoff. David Covey, as you
may recall, is currently in ahot, heated race against Dade Falin,
And I'm sure I don't have toremind you who date is. Dade Fallin,
mister cronyism himself. Here is thenew boss, sam as the old

(06:44):
boss, the Texas house Speaker hasdone nothing to make your life as a
Texan any better, has he?No, but he's done a lot for
the Bush dynasty. He's done anawful lot for himself. He's done an
awful lot to line his own pocketsover that in he involved in real estate.
Didn't he rent out office space tothe State of Texas that he actually
charges more money for than what hecharges his normal tenants. Oh, that's

(07:05):
interesting. The primaries are so important. The runoffs are so important. You
know, in that district odds arethe primary is the real race, So
Democrats probably not going to win thatrace. So this race right now between
Dad and David is very important.David is very busy today and I were
very grateful for his time, soI reached out to David Covey to see

(07:27):
how he's doing. David, you'renot in San Antonio today, You're in
your district, which I think iswhere hopefully your future constituents would probably want
you to be. Right, Yeah, Kenny, this is the first time
since I was a teenager that Ihave not been at the state convention,
the Republican Party state convention that youknow, my parents were taking me as
a kid, I'd go as apage. And but the reason is,

(07:51):
you know, the only reason Imissed this from something important, and today
we have something important. We're finishingup, you know, one more day
of early vote being in this runoff, and this race has come down to
the be a race of the ofthe make America great candidate that's me endorsed
by President Trump versus the guy thatempowers the swamp and the establishment. And

(08:16):
so you know, people have aclear choice. I hate to miss all
the activities. Wish all of ourdelegates well in San Antonio this weekend as
they come up with a platform. But yeah, my time was best met
here with the voters and with thefolks that are going to be I'll be
representing here very shortly. David, your story is really interesting. If people
didn't know any better, if theyweren't actually involved in this, they might

(08:39):
not realize you're the underdog, you'rethe contender, You're the guy that's not
supposed to win. You're taking onthe incumbent. Who's not just the incumbent.
He is a state party leader,he's the Texas House speaker. He
is part of the establishment as faras money goes, this guy's millions of
dollars backing him. You're some guywho is a quote unquote grassroots activist.

(09:01):
You never were supposed to stand achance in this race, and yet amazingly
you're crushing it in the polls, your way ahead of this guy. You
almost beat him in the regular primary. You wouldn't even be in a runoff
if not for the fact that therewas a third candidate. I am I
misunderstanding anything here. No, No, that's exactly right. I'm not supposed
to have a chance here. Whenit comes to to this. You know,

(09:22):
these races and comments, uh aresupposed to win, especially someone who's
a sitting speaker. You know, you just don't take them out. Uh.
And so so this has all becomea become an effort by the grassroots.
No, I don't have any Ihave to run for office before all
I've done and volunteer positions in theparty. I love the state, I
love America, I love you know. I want to see us as a

(09:46):
free country. I want to sucusas a as a still a beacon of
Pope, and and what I wasseeing happening to our state and to our
country, Uh, selling out theConservatives just upset me. And I really
didn't have high expectations of how farwe would go. I just knew that
I had to do the right thingbefore God. I had to do my

(10:07):
part. And I've told everyone isyou know, if we all do just
a little bit more, it wouldbe shocked with the changes we can make.
So we jumped in. We dida little bit more, and we
started getting endorsements from people like SidMiller and Ken Paxton and then let's at
Governor Dan Patrick and President Donald Trump. And this racist took on a life

(10:28):
of its own as the grassroots wokeup to their freedom being not stolen,
but given away by the Republicans theywere electing to office. It is pretty
frustrating. And for the record, you can add my name to that list.
I think we were. We endorsedDavid as soon as we met the
guy. I knew him. Imet David from Steve Toath, who is
one of the only real conservative electedofficials here in the Houston area. I

(10:50):
mean, he's on the short list. And David has not disappointed us since
this campaign has started. He hasbeen out there defending the Second Amendment,
defending protecting medical He's against the vaccinemandates, he's pro life. He wants
to keep Democrats off committee chairs andthat and that's a big deal. That
doesn't seem like it should be abig deal in a state that conservatives supposedly

(11:11):
control. But your opponent has givena lot of power to the Democrats.
David, if it wasn't for that, would you even be running right now?
You know that that was a hugepart of this. And here we
you know, we watched the summerof rioting and Black Lives Matter destroying private
property, and we said, we'rea country of law and order. And
I still president from with you andothers saying you have to obey the laws

(11:33):
and be a country of law andorder. And then my opponent went and
appointed a Black Lives Matter activist whowas rioting with them, supporting them with
financially. He appoints him over theLaw and Order Committee, the terminal surest
crudence, Why would you put aBlack Lives Matter over the Criminal Justice Committee

(11:56):
unless you are frankly, have lostyour mom. You just you have to
have lost your mind. I mean, that's it's absolutely crazy, David,
It's absolutely nuts. For those thatcan't tell, it's a little windy.
In the background. David is outon the campaign trail right now, like
as we speak. He took apause from that so he could call our
radio station this afternoon and David,as you're out there talking to people around

(12:18):
Southeast Texas, what are people saying? I got to imagine they're pretty frustrated.
There's a reason Dad's so unpopular allof a sudden. Yeah, we're
here on the ground, you know, I'm at the voting location, one
of the largest ones in Orange County, and they're coming in. They know
who they want to vote for,but they want change. They're tired of
the same old, same ole. They're tired of being promised we're going to

(12:39):
close the border, and yet theencounters are the all time high. They're
tired of being told they've been giventhis large property tax cut and yet their
appraisals went up and they're paying moretaxes this year they did last year.
They're tires, you know, they'retired of ball the same old, same
ole. They're ready for difference andfor change in a positive direction where we
actually lesson what the government does. And I tell people, look, let's

(13:03):
do well what the government should do, and let's get out of the rest.
Yeah. And so that's the conversationwe're having here at the polls.
You know, Tomorrow, Friday willbe the last day of early voting,
and then we have one more electionday next Tuesday, and this is over,
and this is going to make historyfor those that don't understand what David
is doing. This is truly like, quite literally a David verse Goliath and

(13:26):
figuratively a David vers Goliath story takingon Dad Falen, the guy with millions
of dollars backing him, a guyfrom a wealthy, powerful family. Dave
Falen didn't get to be Texas Housespeaker because he was popular or well liked
by people. He did it becausehe was well connected and influential. And
by comparison, David Covey is anaverage regular guy like me or like most

(13:48):
of our listeners, and a lotof people would probably like to do what
you're doing, David, But whatyou're doing is kind of scary. If
anybody out there has ever thought tothemselves. You know, I'd like to
run for office. I'm an averageguy. I can't do it. What
would you say to those people? You know, I work a regular job
forty hours a week. I youknow, don't have tons of money.

(14:09):
I haven't put in, you know, thousands of dollars myself. I just
thought this is something that is importantand that I can do. And so
I think instead of focusing on whatwe can't do, focus on what you
can do and do it, andoftentimes you don't know where that will end
up when you step out. I'vejust been shocked, completely shocked in my

(14:33):
own life as I've learned the differencethat one person can make. And we've
had people come into this campaign andI've seen them one person in different counties
that can turn the whole county aroundjust because of their vocal support and doing
what they gain. And so,you know, my story is one of
not knowing the result, but knowingthat I'm going to do what's right and
I'm gonna step out in faith andwe're gonna and we'll see where it goes.

(14:56):
And if we all did that, listen, the Liberals would be crushed.
They would not have a chance inthis nation because conservatives speaking out and
doing the right thing. That's unstoppable. I love it. That is so
refreshing to hear. I wish therewere more people like David Covey out there.
And if you are in the greaterHouston area, for those of you

(15:16):
that are anywhere near Beaumont, PortArthur, Orange, Texas, over there,
if you vote in that district, get over there and vote today or
tomorrow, check the box for DavidCovey. If you don't, if you're
not, I bet you probably knowsomebody who is. Somebody invited, somebody
in Bridge City, somebody in Orange, somebody in Pineers call them, reach
out, send a text message. It might just be a few seconds of

(15:37):
inconvenience for you. It might helpsave the state of Texas today. It's
something to think about. David.Good luck, brother. I'm very confident
you're going to win this, butthe battling over yet, my man.
Keep up the good work. We'recheering for you over here at KPRC.
Dude, Thank you, Kenny, really appreciate you. You're right, you
were one of the first ones toendorse me, and President Trump jumped on
right after that. So thank youfor leading the way. I think I'm

(16:00):
the reason Trump endoors them. Butin all serious and it's hey. While
you're at it, find David onFacebook, Twitter, social media. Give
him a follow to. Some radioshows are so hot you'll literally burn your
eyes. Fortunately, this is itone of those shows. I feel like
I never listening to you all againby suit of happiness radio. This is

(16:27):
not a sports radio station, butonce in a while there's an intersection between
what happens in the world of professionalathletics and you know politics. Andrew Breitbart,
one of my heroes, famously saidthat politics was downstream from culture.
So when somebody in Hollywood says something, when somebody in entertainment says something,

(16:47):
unfortunately it matters. It shouldn't,but it does. Right, when somebody
in professional sports says something, itaffects people's opinions when they go into a
polling location. Isn't that weird? It's true though, right, Look at
the case of Harrison Butker. Ifyou didn't actually watch the Kansas City Chief
speech at the college I think itwas a little over a week ago,

(17:08):
you might believe if you just heardpeople talk about it, you might actually
believe this guy said some insane things, that misogynistic, homophobic, you know,
the hateful things. It was actuallya very nice speech in which he
said, women, you could dowhat you want with your life. You
could pursue a career if you want, but just know that if you want

(17:29):
to be a housewife, if youwant to be a stay at home mom,
that's okay too. It's okay tochoose either path. It was a
very egalitarian speech telling women you coulddefine yourself in a traditional manner, in
a you know, or in asecular manner. Whatever it may be that
you want to do, It's okay, And that was a pretty good message
to give. I think I don'tthink we should shame women for pro creating.

(17:52):
Would it be weird if we did? What if we just shame women
for having babies? What happens tohumanity? What happens to you? Are
species? Do we continue to existanyway? I look, I'm I'm a
Catholic, and I love church andI love God. But when I need
spiritual advice, I reach out tofriends who I think are deep thinkers who
maybe know a little more than Ido. Believe it or not, I

(18:15):
don't know everything. So one ofmy close friends who I think is really
got his finger on the pulse ofthe intersection between spirituality and theology and ideology,
right, your political beliefs and yourreligious beliefs, and making sure that
one of them doesn't sell out theother. Of all the guys I know
in my peer group who I thinkare good at that, I can't think
of anyone who's better at it thanChristian Collins. You might know him as

(18:37):
the creator of the Texas Youth Summit. Christian is a deep thinker, He's
a proud American. But before anyof that, he's a child of God
and he's a Christian Christian? Didyou I mean besides being named Christian,
he is a Christian pun intended there, Christian. You watch the Harrison Budker
speech, right, we are nowseeing Roger Goodell, Andy Reid, the
coach Patrick Mahomes. Everybody is nowsaying okay, it's it's okay to have

(19:00):
these beliefs, and now people arecalling for their resignation. How weird is
this? And what did you thinkof the speech? Well, Kitty,
thank you for all that you doacross the city and across the state and
across the country. And I'm honoredto be only with you. I'm honored
to call you a friend. AndI couldn't agree more with you about that
speech. I mean, there wasnothing wrong or racist or you know,

(19:25):
sexist about that speech. What hewas telling young women was, look,
you can make a big difference, and our society needs you to be wives
and moms. And he also saidthat his wife today, who you know,
they started dating in high school. Her life began, she says,
whenever she got married and then becamea mom. He also says that he

(19:48):
would not be the man he istoday, nor would he have the success
that he's had had it not beenfor her. And that's the type of
synergy and chemistry that can happen ina marriage and make for a very beautiful
thing. Best guy has won threeSuper Bowls, He's been tremendously successful.
And their problem with him, Imean the left, I mean the mainstream

(20:10):
media, I mean, you know, celebrities like Taylor Swift, probably is
that he's not woke. And TaylorSwift wants to wait until she's thirty four
to start dating kind of you know, and she dates a guy that it's
kind of all over the place.Travis Kelcey who's Buttker's teammate. But you
know, I would look at,you know, a couple like Mutker and
his wife, and I would say, look, this guy's this guy's got

(20:32):
it right. He's doing the rightthing. He's got traditional values. His
wife's a traditional woman, and theyhave a very successful marriage and family.
And I think, really deep down, a lot of women want this.
I've observed this in family members whothey're very ambitious with their careers. But
something happens in a woman when shebecomes a mom. It's like another gear

(20:56):
kicks in and human nature takes over. They love to be that mother,
They loved to have that baby intheir arms, and it's a beautiful thing.
And God created us that way,So I think we should keep it
that way. Yeah, if peoplereally want to see I agree with everything
you said. And if people reallywant to see how woke media has affected
our country right now, it's onething to look at political news because that's

(21:18):
always been there. There's always beenliberal journalists covering political stories. It's the
whole reason Fox News and talk radioConservative talk radio even exists. But if
you want a real example of howwokism is destroying the media, look at
sports media. Sports media used tojust be statistics and predictions for games.
It has gone so far to theleft it's comical. Literally, communists and

(21:41):
neo feminists are now writing news blogsfor sports media outlets and it doesn't make
any People that appear to not evenlike sports are the ones calling for Harrison
Butker's resignation. But another group ofpeople you might not expect it from.
It's the woke religious types Christian Imean, there's an account on Twitter.
Maybe you've seen this before. It'swoke preachers, people that get behind the

(22:03):
pulpit and they sound like Communists, but they're dressed like Christian pastors. It's
the weirdest thing. And if itexists in Catholicism, it's in a group
of people called the Jesuits. TheJesuits been around for a long time,
but basically they're left wing Catholics. There's something called America Magazine. It's the
US Jesuit flagship publication, and it'sjoining the atheists and the liberal elites in

(22:26):
calling for Harrison Butker to get kickedout of the NFL. Some of these
people are even suggesting you get replacedby a woman. I mean, how
silly. Do we need. It'sjust it's it's comically silly, how ridiculous
people's responses become to this Christian. You know, he did something in that
speech. He's speaking at a historicallyCatholic university who's actually Catholic, because some

(22:49):
of these universities really aren't that Catholicanymore. They're very secular. They're actually
communist, is what they really are. He's a true Catholic, he's a
devout Catholic. He lives by whathe reaches. And he's calling for the
Catholic Church to clean up the typesof people that are in leadership and to
put the right people in authority. And he's preaching really good stuff. And

(23:11):
of course there's going to be leftistswho don't like that, but we need
to have, you know, goodpeople in leadership in the Catholic Church.
We need to have good people inleadership in and all the Protestant denominations.
We don't need need woke people. And there's woke people in the Southern Baptist
Convention like Russell Moore and Tucker Carlsonhas done a big expos a on this.
Uh, you know, they're they'reworking with George Soros to allow legal

(23:33):
immigrants to come into our country. They're they're pushing back on traditional values withinside
of the church, and and weneed conservative leaders to step up. We
need good people to step up inleadership in both the Catholic and Protestant denominations.
Do you feel like it's getting betteror worse? I mean, as
we're getting into election time right now, you see prominent people from Hollywood,

(23:57):
people like Russell brand are now becomingChristians. You I think you saw that
him getting baptized. If you toldme five ten years ago that Katie Perry's
ex boyfriend ex fiance was going tobecome our right wing Christian advocate, I
wouldn't believed it Christian. But herewe are, you know. I mean
God can work in mysterious ways, and he can reach the lost. And

(24:19):
I love to see that Russell Morrahas found faith and has given his life
to Christ. And you know, some of the most popular people in Hollywood
in fact, you know, theythey when they give their lives to Christ
and their public about their faith.Sometimes they might take a hit in their
pocketbooks, but ultimately it's the rightthing. And there's so many people that

(24:41):
can be inspired by their lives andfind value in what they've done and inspiration.
And so we need we need peoplein Hollywood that are that are Christians,
that are standing up for truth, that are doing the right thing even
if it cost them. And youknow what I've always told young people at
the Texas Youth Summit, I don'tnecessarily want everyone to be involved in politics.

(25:04):
They don't have to be uh andin the form of working. I
want them to be engaged. Iwant them to vote, I want them
to be good citizens, but theydon't have to actually work in politics.
If you want to go and bea conservative or be a you know,
conservative Christian in the arena of entertainmentin Hollywood, you know, go be
a Chris Pratt, Go be agood leader that this is good content.

(25:26):
Who's a Christian who makes people laugh, who's who's honest and has integrity and
and and does the right thing. But we need Christians and Conservatives in all
sectors of society who are bold abouttheir faith and about their views and worldview
so that younger people that follow themwill be led by them and can understand

(25:47):
that this is okay. You don'thave to be woke, you don't have
to be a communist. You don'thave to be a leftist. You can
you can live by what the Bibleteaches. You can stand up for American
values and that's what we need. So, you know, back to Russell
brand I think it's a beautiful thingwhat he's done. I just love that
he got baptized, the love thathe loves Jesus, and I want to
see more of that in Hollywood.Man, me too. Christian Collins,

(26:08):
creator of the Texas Youth Summit anda conservative thought leader for young right wingers
in Southeast Texas. Follow him onTwitter, find him on Facebook and social
media. You'll be glad you did. We didn't even have time to talk
about the Texas Republican Conference, theconvention going on in San Antonio, which
I think is where Christians driving toright now. But we'll get Christian back
next week and see what his thoughtswere on it. Quick break, don't

(26:30):
go anywhere. We're going to Hollywoodright after this. Ken Webster's Pursuit of
Happiness a radio show that's just asgood when you're driving around Soba as it
is when you're drunk at home. All right, a little bit of news

(26:52):
from the world of Hollywood. ApparentlyPixar is laying off hundreds of employees,
So good luck to the makers ofFinding Nemo on their new adventure Finding a
jobbo. Yeah. Is this aspoiled, pampered, narcissistic Hollywood bratt or
what? I don't know. Iwant to be clear about that stupid joke.
I just told I don't celebrate whenpeople lose their jobs. I think

(27:15):
that's sad and depressing. I don'twish that on anyone. That's terrible.
I know what it's like to beout of work. It's horrible. But
you got to admit Hollywood has reallyshot itself in the foot lately as they
become more and more woke. Asa matter of fact, The Office one
of the co creators of The Off. You ever watched The Office? Before?
The Office was the show that starredSteve Carrell here in America, it

(27:37):
was a show in England that starredRicky Gervais and one of the guys he
created the show with, Stephen Merchant, one of the most successful comedians in
the UK, says that modern comedyis now policed by the left and cancel
culture is destroying it now. I'mnot a professional comedian. I just play
one on the radio. So Ireached out to a guy that is stand
up comic, Tim Mathis. Heis out promote a show that they're they're

(28:00):
filming a live comedy show Saturday,June fifteenth, right here in the Houston
area at the Deluxe Theater over thereon Lions Avenue in Houston. So I
called Tim on the phone, andI thought i'd ask him. Tim is
the co creator of the Office Correct. Uh, yeah, that's why we're
getting such bland mediocre comedies nowadays. It sucks. The movies, the comedy

(28:23):
shows and movies that are coming outsuck. Now. Now that being said,
stand up comedy doesn't suck. Inoticed stand up comedy. There's a
lot of good stand up comics releasingspecials and putting out new content right now.
But it feels like once it getsthrough the filter of the Hollywood producers,
it's not good anymore. Tim,what happens. What happens is they

(28:45):
they censor a lot of it.They want to dull down the jokes.
I know Andrew Schultz famously had aspecial he was going to sell, and
I can't remember which streaming service wantedto cut certain jokes from it. I
think it was abo and he wentuntil to another one. The thing about
what the office writer said was entirelytrue. And a lot of people like

(29:07):
to point out stuff like, oh, always Sonny is on the air and
curb your enthusiasm last at twenty yearslike, yeah, those were shows that
started in the two thousands. Thoseare almost twenty year old shows. And
when it comes to shows like Sonny, they've had episodes pulled off a hula.
So you can't sit here and saylike, oh, there's nothing wrong

(29:29):
with censorship in comedy. It's nothappening. This is this is all just
a conspiracy theory or something like that. It's one hundred percent happening. And
even worse is that, because ofthe censorship at the production levels, you
have people that sensor that self censorwhile they write. So I'm not going
to write as edgy a script asmaybe would have been written in the nineties

(29:52):
or the two thousands or even inlike twenty fourteen. We haven't had a
really good edgy comedy in a longtime. And that's the main reason why.
Dude, dude, I mean,it's exactly correct. I wish you
were wrong about that, but you'renot. It's interesting you used It's Always
Sonny in Philadelphia as an example.I think a lot of us know that
sitcom. It stars Danny DeVito. It's a pretty popular sitcom. But actually,

(30:15):
tim it's it's not that easy tofind. It's on the FXX Network's
I didn't say the FX network,which is Fox's other network. It's on
the FXX network. If you wantto watch It's Always Sonny in Philadelphia,
you have to go look for it. They don't make it easy to get
to another show produced by the samenetwork the Simpsons produced. It's for Fox,

(30:37):
obviously. And Harry Sheer he's oneof the guys that voices characters on
The Simpsons. He's been doing itfor a long time. He voices a
character called Doctor Hibbert. Now,for those that don't know, doctor Hibbert
is a black doctor, and HarryShears the voice of the black doctor.
When he created the character, theywere making fun of Bill Cosby. And
the reason they were making fun ofBill Cosby back in the eighties and the

(30:59):
nineties is because Bill Cosby thought TheSimpsons was too offensive, so they made
the character sound like doctor Bill.Heathcliff Oxtable, who was at the time
considered to be the whitest black guyon TV. And now they have fired
Harry Sheer from doing the voice. They're having a black guy do a voice
that was created by a white guythat was pretending to be a black guy

(31:21):
who sounded white. Now how ridiculousis that. Yeah, it gets ridiculous
to a certain point, and I'mglad folks like Sheer talking about stuff like
this. When it comes to comedyand comedy production and all that stuff,
there's basically two camps. There's theDave Chappelle camp, which is the camp

(31:42):
of if you want to tell ajoke and it's funny, go ahead do
it. And then there's famously thehar Khanda Balu camp, which is the
camp that got Apu essentially removed fromThe Simpsons because he was too offensive.
A beloved character that as one ofthe pillars of the Springfield community and now

(32:04):
he is essentially like a third tier, fourth tier character. A lot of
Indian American folks loved a Poo becauseof the fact that he kind of did
stand for And yeah, there werestereotypes, but every character in the sense
of the stereotype, So you caneither have fun and be part of a
community, like mister Chappelle, oryou can be a party pooper and a

(32:30):
stick in the mud and the poopin the punch bowl like mister Harry Condo
Bobis. There's a stand up comediannamed Hannah Gadsby, and I only know
who she is because I reluctantly admitI subscribed to Netflix because I like when
there's new stand up comedy specials. So when I watched her special, I
didn't really get that it was comedyat first. She just stands there and

(32:50):
talks about how bad the patriarchy is. She's basically repeating left wing talking points.
But then she pauses so the audiencecan laugh. And what really impressed
me is that the audience knew whento laugh because I didn't know tim.
I didn't even understand she was doingcomedy. Yeah, it's this whole thing
that they've been doing for a whilenow. It's essentially it's called flapter s.

(33:14):
Folks no longer looking for punchlines andjokes and hippy dialogue. Now it's
just is does the message fit whatit's supposed to fit? Is she saying
what we all agree in claplight seal. That's basically how a lot of the
quote unquote industry of comedy is goingnowadays. They don't really care if if

(33:37):
you're all that funny, as longas you're saying the right thing. Comedy
is supposed to be about pushing boundaries. If you're doing what you described as
clapter right, which is repeating aleft wing talking point but maybe inserting a
pun so that you're really making apolitical point, but you're being kind of
vaguely funny, then you're not reallytaking a chance as a comedian. Isn't
the whole point of comedy that you'resupposed to be taking a chance? You're

(34:00):
doing something edgy. The audience doesn'twant to laugh, but they have to
because it's funny. That's what goodcomedy is. Well, yeah, and
we've come a long way from that. One of the reasons I got into
comedy at an early, relatively earlyage is because I was raised in a
super like fundamentalist Christian family, whichis no problem with that if that's what

(34:22):
you believe in, but we wereheavily censored. I wasn't allowed to watch
a lot of certain things. SoI got into the industry I thought at
the time was free of censorship. But now in the last at least ten
years, and it probably started beforethat, it's just become so heavily censored.
So if I wanted to be likean industry darling like Hannegatzy, you

(34:45):
know, it wouldn't be too hardjust come out and talk about how climate
change is going to kill us alland how men should be able to dominate
women's sports. I guess yeah,it sucks. And speaking of woke comedy,
I got it. I never thoughtof this guy as this a long
time ago, but I realize he'sbecome that Seth Rogen. Seth Rogen does

(35:06):
he dabbles and stand up, butI think most of them know him as
a comedic actor. He does movies. The joke is basically in this movie
is that he's stoned, right,he's high, And I don't know when
Cheech and Chong did it. Itwas funny when Seth Rogan did it.
It was sort of like a white, affluent liberal version of Chiach and Chong.
He's in the news today talking abouthow nobody wants to go to movie
theaters anymore. And part of thereason why nobody wants to go to movie

(35:29):
theaters anymore is exactly what we've beentalking about. Tim, leftist talking point
Dribble masquerading as a comedy film.He says that movie theaters have become like
museums. Nobody goes to movie theaters. And I'd hate to disagree with him,
but I was at the Improv ComedyClub recently to see a stand up
comedian, not shockingly, and whileI was there, I was seeing Ryan

(35:51):
Long, who's anything but a leftistcomic, right across the way, right
across the I guess it's like thewalkway. Right right next door to the
Improv Comedy Club is that giant movietheater. Nobody was there on a Thursday
night. Tim, it was aghost town. It was depressing. Well,
a lot of that is, likeyou said, a lot of it
has to do with what Hollywood's puttingout. I mean, they just announced

(36:14):
and I can't remember what franchise itwas, but they just announced another remake.
It's remakes, it's prequels, it'ssequels. It's nothing new. They're
not putting out anything new. Notonly that, I mean, at a
certain extent, I do agree withRogan because of the fact that now they're
releasing video on demand like two weeksafter a movie comes out. But I've

(36:36):
got beef with Grogan anyway, justthe fact that he has no loyalty and
he threw James Franco under the busfor stuff that Exeth Brogan is obviously doing
himself. So James Franco got introuble for I guess, kind of hitting
on and having sex with some ofhis understudies at his acting class. Now

(36:57):
it was all busy Philips. Wasthat a busy fellas was an actress that
they worked together. I don't meaninterrupt you, but I think so.
Yeah, But I mean there wasno it was all consensual according to what
I can read now. If youremember Pineapple Express, the first ten minutes
of Pineapple Express is Seth Rogan rationalizingwhy his twenty six year old character is

(37:20):
dating a high school girl. That'sright. So Seth Rogan was clearly involved
in the same type of stuff thatJames Franco was clearly And I don't want
to be that guy, but I'mpretty sure it's easier for James Franco to
get laid than Seth Broke. Sure. So I mean the fact that Seth
Rogan threw him under the bus.The way he did really is detestable.

(37:46):
So I'm not a big fan ofsethro And he's actually producing some good stuff
right now. He's producing like theInvincible series and stuff like that. But
as an actor, he's never beenthat funny to me. And you know,
just the fact that he threw awaywhat was essentially his best friend because
he didn't want to get caught upin the same stuff that he is obviously

(38:07):
guilty of. Sure is just abad person. Yeah, I tend to
agree with you on that you aredoing before we run out of time here.
You are hosting a comedy a tapingof a comedy special for another friend
of ours, Theodore Emmy Taylor. And if people want to go to that,
I guess they got to get onhis Instagram account. There's a link
you can get tickets to it.It's in June. Can you give me

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
