Speaker 2 (02:15):
Hey, listen, man, catch a flight right now and go

five minutes. Man, what in the fuck is going on?
Speaker 3 (02:26):

Speaker 1 (02:26):
Was it? You know?
Speaker 2 (02:29):
I need to down in back. It's going down the back,
down in back. That's it down in back man? Oh man, Mike,
that's it down?
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Hey, oh shit, just leave it like that like that.
Take it. Look we're putting church on the flight right now.
Is it not that right?
Speaker 2 (02:50):
Here?
Speaker 1 (02:50):
Can y were just tapping in?
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Man?
Speaker 2 (02:52):
We ain'tn't even know shit, man, I just wanted to
tap in with you.
Speaker 1 (02:55):
You know what I'm saying, what's going on ain't nothing, man.
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Just tapping in with you. Man, know you got to
see and stuff going. I know you probably you know
y'all had the game. Congratulations on the game last.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
Night, appreciate it. The coach trying to get trying to
get these kids to play the right way man, you know,
to draw kick. Don't want to tap that anymore these days,
you know what I mean. It's where it's like, you know,
you know I can't you could, okay if I draw this, man,
Ray Allen gonna have a wide open three over here.
(03:24):
The kids don't do that anymore, So we're trying to
get them in the motive. If you got three kids
on you, you gotta be able to come in here
and make plays for other people. So the first time here,
you know, we played six games so far, sorry eight,
and that's the first game that we've done that so far.
As far as I think, we had like twenty something assists.
(03:44):
I mean, it was a D two school. But the
kids are throwing improving, you know what I mean. So
that's all you could ask for. Man. Earlier in this season,
our big guy went down. We don't know when he'll
be back. So you know when that when somebody goes down,
you know, somebody got a step up, so we gotta
look for somebody to step up.
Speaker 1 (04:02):
Yeah, you know how that go though.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Opportunity is always with the man who waiting, you know
what I'm saying for everybody on the team wants to play.
So yeah, So would you say a lot of your
coaching is a lot of development. When y'all go through drills,
it's about just really putting it on the ground, playmaking
playing the way y'all.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
Want to play.
Speaker 3 (04:17):
Yeah, that too, but they also got to I mean,
we show a lot of film, but they also got
to be disciplined. You know, a lot of these kids
aren't discipline anymore. As far as we had to take
her to the to the point of, you know, we
do a drill, you know, after we'll run, we've had
to change it to in the middle of the drill,
y'all got to get on the line if she ain't
(04:38):
going right, just to get them the mode of Okay,
that's that's three methods gonna line.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Man.
Speaker 3 (04:43):
The three run. You got three sprints. Now the kids
get to like, come on, man, stop messing up. Now
now they get to the point of now they get
to not to mess up so they could finish the drill.
When we first started, it was like, Okay, we run
the drill. I'm gonna count how many mistakes you make?
Seven mistakes at the end, we gotta run seven sprints.
And we changed it so it's a lot better once
(05:04):
we changed it to where now after you make the mistake,
now they see, okay, running right away is a lot
better than running after the drill.
Speaker 1 (05:15):
You know what I mean.
Speaker 3 (05:16):
So, I mean, like the whole thing with them is
like they're coming from a lot of different places kg
to where no one really cared about them, no one
taught them anything, and it's I mean, I've heard I've
heard a kid on the team stays, I've never been
taught to it. I've never been taught to jump to
the ball. I've never been taught to to do nothing.
So I mean we're behind the eight ball right now
as far as like, we started recruiting late and we've
(05:40):
had a lot of weeks with them, but we haven't
had everybody practice and stuff yet. So we're working.
Speaker 2 (05:44):
Man, I know, you got so many rules and stuff too. Man, Yeah,
I like your team though. Man, you got a scrappy team. Man,
we got a scrappy team before the Big Fellow went down. Man,
I thought you had all the parts you need to
be successful. Give a shit of somebody a D two
D four with the way to portal works and how
talent is sporadic anyways, man, and so sporadic in different
(06:06):
parts of the world. You can play somebody who got
some game in D two D three and you wouldn't
even know it, You know what I'm.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
Saying, Yeah, for sure, for sure, And I mean we
got a really athletic team. The way I want them
to play is get in the passing lanes and get
out in the open courter and use our athleticism, have
the defense on their heels and play. But you get
these situations where it's like, why liquor man, catch the ball,
the guy's looking to pass it to your guy. He's
(06:32):
looking at you to pass it, getting the pass and
lanes where he can't maybe get a steal. Now he
doesn't pass it, he goes the other way. You did
your job. We're trying to instill stuff like that into
the kids who're like, don't let your guy catch the
ball like the ball go right past the kids' face,
and then he'll play defense. I'm telling him, put this
man out, you get a steal.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
I want to ask you something, what examples y'all showing
these kids of the stuff that y'all want? Did you
bring in I know I'm dated when I bring in
Rob and I talk about pipping that talk about guys
that I know this that unbelievable lot of a movement.
Right when you're talking about when you're talking about what
you're saying in your mind, Mike, me and you talking
here me and your mind, you're seeing the person that
(07:14):
you're talking about. So when I say, I want you
to deny the wing like it's Scottie Pippen, or I
want you to deny the wing like it's Draymond Green,
I want you to, you know, be able to put
that coventing defense on somebody you know, you know who
you got in mind?
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Like when you.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Speaking to these players, what examples are you giving these players?
Because you gotta give them some examples, Mike. You can't
just give them the liberty that they know what you're
talking about. You gotta show them. You got to literally
show them and check this check out Dinnis Robbins. Watch
how you deny this wing? Watch how you ride to
pick over?
Speaker 1 (07:43):
Right here? Watch how did A B and C? You
gotta do that today?
Speaker 3 (07:46):
See, But like kids don't watch film, They don't watch
guys of the old time day. I don't even know
if kids watch basketball anymore today. K You know what
I'm like, we have to like, we have to give
them film. We put film on the thing and and
with us. So it was like we gave all these
guys these film. You know what I mean? They got
playbooks KG to where it's like you gotta it runs
(08:08):
the walk them.
Speaker 2 (08:10):
No, man, you gotta walk these kids through it. Do
our kids? These the kids that didn't want to get wooped.
We didn't whoop these kids. He helped them up. We
didn't want to get hurt. We spoiled the ship out
of these kids. Guess what, we gotta take them to
the water drink and then show them out of drink. Okay,
you copy me, like that's if we're not showing somebody
(08:30):
an example. But these kids are are they They go
off examples of how they're shown.
Speaker 1 (08:36):
I'm telling you, watch man, we give them example. Who
you're talking about we do.
Speaker 3 (08:40):
We run players for like thirty minutes, forty minutes and
can't get it, you know what I mean. It's like
you put them in, you try to put them in
the easiest situations you can for him, as far as
dribble handoffs, try to make plays. You put them in
zoom zoom actions and stuff like that. But as far
like trying to cater to these kids, like with us,
I'd be like, hey, gee, you got to be here
(09:02):
because that's going to make the past. Here, go this way,
in that way. We could, we could understand that. But
when you tell these kids today that, it's like, now
I gotta see it. I gotta I gotta see how
you're doing it. And we do it every day. Like
we spend a lot of time drilling stuff, we spend
a lot of time showing showing film, getting out there ourselves.
(09:23):
My son, my son even gets into practice just to
show them the way of how to play, you know,
he gets what the key plays with some of the
kids on the team, just to show my dr He
doesn't really shoot too much, he just I mean, he'll shoot,
but he gets in the point of show him how
to play, how to communicate like no one talks, Like
we sit there and no one will talk. Hey, so
(09:44):
we gotta talk. We got to communicate. And there'll be
a switch that we know we're switching and two people
are They're looking at each other like do you go?
Do I go? Do I go? And it's fucking communicate.
It's simple, just talk. And and what I remember about
you all playing, you were talking. You were talking on
everything even when you weren't in the play. You know
(10:06):
what I mean? And that goes a long way, and
it shows people and to Guesst people aware, And like
I said, we're I mean the kids weren't asdvanced as
us back then, but I mean right now, but I'm
trying to instill all these habits and break all the
old habits that they had before.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
This is why I see the summers being so important development.
Being able to do simple shit, dribbling behind your back,
right hand, left hand, like stuff that you wouldn't even
think about. Right most of these kids wouldn't even understand
getting on the treadmill, singing, being loud on the court,
being able to open up your lung capacity so it
sounds like you're at a base. You're at the basics
(10:45):
of basketball, of of IQ where you have to actually
go in and actually teach a certain mentality versus you know,
thinking some kids knowing now in that it does the
way that you teach and they expecting of the basis,
Is this how you're recruiting. Are you recruiting older smarter
(11:05):
players are trying to look for players who can understand
certain or be on a certain IQ level or are
you is this affecting your recruitment and on the player
that you were starting to recruit.
Speaker 3 (11:16):
Because with us, we saw we started recruitment situation kind
of late because they hired me a little late and
I got to see what I got to see film.
So a lot of guys I have are from just
watching film and off that I mean, but going first,
going moving forward, I mean, we just hired we just
(11:37):
got a four star kid that first time in school
history a four star kid has signed with the school.
And you know it was it was my pick, Like
I went and watched this kid play at e Ybl
and there's probably two or three kids at Eybl Eybl
was like, I need that kid, and he was one
of those kids and you could see it in them
(11:59):
when you watch and play, you know what I mean.
If they know how to run plays, that they could
spread the court, that they could space, if they know
how to help and get back, you could see all that.
Like we we've been arounding the game a long time.
When we notice that and people are gonna catch, I
don't want to see a guy that's just gonna go
out there and dunk. I want to see I want
a tough guy. I want a kid that don't care
(12:19):
if he break his nose going in the front of
rema or diving on the floor. That's the type of
kid I want. You know, all the finest stuff is good,
but I want a kid that's tough, that knows how
to play and it's smart. That's the kids that we're going.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
For in the next in the next four years, in
the next two years. What would you like to add
to this team that you don't have today?
Speaker 3 (12:42):
Just you know, I mean the four and five stars
don't mean no difference thing. I want to get a
team that people fear, you know what I mean. We
we we going to the thing. We're a new team.
No one really give us some chance. But that has
that that people fear and that we have confidence like
we played U, C, l A and CAL and I
mean you could tell on the look of some of
(13:03):
the kids' faces like wow, you know what I mean.
I want I want to come in there and just
be like, shit, this is a game we could go take.
No one has us winning, Let's go take this shit.
I want I want kids mentalities and thoughts to be
like that. And I mean it comes off of us.
They're getting in that mode. Like I said, we've had them,
We've had them for a few months, but we're getting
(13:25):
them to that grind mode. As far as this is
the way we what we expect from you, you have
to go out and do it. I don't care who
you are. This has to be done or you won't play.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
You know what, you know what A lot of times
I'll play and you know this, a lot of times
teams take on their coach's character. Yeah, if you was
to say, in the perfect world, so one of my fasts,
So I'm gonna just side not for two seconds?
Speaker 3 (13:53):
Church.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
What was that three summers ago? How many summers ago
was Bobby Jackson the summer league coach for the Kings.
Speaker 3 (14:00):
I think he was a couple of years, a couple
of years ago.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Yeah, a couple three years ago, right, You remember when
they had little Mitchell. I remember when they had Donovan?
What was yeah done?
Speaker 1 (14:11):
No no, no, no, no, no, no no. What's the little
nigga from Baylor.
Speaker 3 (14:15):
I know he's talking about he's in Miami.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
I'm saying his name. I'm saying that he's in Miami
right now. Listen, listen to me. When I saw the
little homie get on Sacramento for the summer League, I
saw a bunch of little Bobby Jackson's and he was
all playing like Bobby Jackson.
Speaker 1 (14:31):
Anybody don't know Bobby because Bobby old. Now your a little.
Speaker 2 (14:34):
Round ball, he a little baseball. She was asking the
back shout to my dog, Bobo.
Speaker 1 (14:38):
You know what I'm saying. You know I love him.
Speaker 2 (14:41):
But when I watched that team, Mike, they were playing
like him. They had took on his personality at one point.
Are you looking to put on your personality? And because
everybody sees you as Mike with a nice smile, Mike,
Mike baby is team dom.
Speaker 1 (14:57):
You know everything you know?
Speaker 3 (14:59):
Hey, you know?
Speaker 2 (15:00):
But I know you was a savage, my guy, and
I respect you, and man, you played on the highest
levels man, how do you Yeah, I guess a two
part of like how do you put your personality onto
your team?
Speaker 3 (15:14):
Just the coach of the coach of is put tough
love on them, you know what I mean. I cuss
that in my get out there, but you know after that,
make him under head, you know, smile with them. Hey,
make sure you guys. If you guys ever need anything,
called me. You could talk to me whenever. But I
want them to be tougher. Like I'm telling them, I
don't give a shit if you get a moving screen.
I don't give a shit if you if you take
(15:34):
an elbow to the chest or elbow to the thing
and get a foul, be tough. I want you to
be tough. I was tough, like I don't care. I'll
get in there and get it and put them up
with anybody. And that's the way I'm trying to get
these kids to be. I think once we're tougher, then
everything's gonna take care of yourself. Because we're not really
tough yet. Like we get pushed around a lot and
they think like, well that's the foul. That's the foul.
(15:55):
Now foul that motherfucker back. You know what I mean,
it's just the mindset we got to, Like I said,
habits for these kids, they've been doing the bad habits
for so long. It's going to take a little while
to get it out of them. And once we get
it out of them, I think we're looking up.
Speaker 1 (16:14):
I like that. I like that.
Speaker 2 (16:16):
If it's one matter of fact, if it's one or
two players right now in the next one or two
years that you can have on your team, who would
they be top recruits out here that you're looking at.
Speaker 3 (16:29):
I don't think I'm about to talk about that. KG
you we're not allowed to talk like. There's so many
rules with that shit. Man.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Hey, hey, my eligibility is available, Okay, I just I
just want to throw that out there.
Speaker 1 (16:39):
I got a naming likeness.
Speaker 2 (16:41):
We can talk off camera with all this, you know
what I'm saying. I would rebound. I can talk. I
hear your problems, right. I don't want to go there.
But it's a list of us out here. I got
a bunch of guys in the back, you know what
I'm saying. So yeah, I got you question. How much
is NIL changing all this?
Speaker 3 (16:57):
Bro?
Speaker 1 (16:58):
It's the money in front of the love? Are we
do we still have.
Speaker 2 (17:01):
Players who really love it going to gym, you know,
treated like a girlfriend, spend a bunch of.
Speaker 1 (17:05):
Time with it.
Speaker 2 (17:06):
Do we still have Jim Ratts? Or is the money
in front of the love right now?
Speaker 3 (17:10):
I think it's I think it makes it harder because
you know, I got a few kids that recruited and
the first thing to ask is like how much money
are you giving off?
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Okay positions?
Speaker 3 (17:24):
Like there was this one kid, I'm not gonna name
his name, but he the first thing he asked me.
I talked to him, good kid, I mean, was a center.
And the first three things he asked was are you
gonna recruit over me? How much am we paid? And
who is gonna be? Who am I?
Speaker 1 (17:40):
Am?
Speaker 3 (17:40):
I gonna be going against anybody for the starting spot?
So soon as soon as he throws three questions he asked,
I told him. My guy said leave him alone. I
don't want them because you I mean, like even with me,
when even when I was coming into school, you know,
Jason Terry was there. My I've never thought one time that, hey,
am I gonna be playing ahead of him? Do I
(18:01):
need to ask the coach what's going on? I came
in there and was like I figured I was gonna
I figured that was my spot and with no with
no questions asked, I was gonna come in there, and
I figured, like that was gonna be me. You know,
it ended up being me. But I've never that never
crossed my mind of Damn, am I gonna play. It's
just couldn't happen because you get all it like that
(18:21):
that goes with that goes with the h with the
ni L and the transfer fo old too. That's killing
it because if I don't like it here and I
don't like what's going on here, I could go somewhere
else with no problem. And that's kind of like how
the AAU is too, to where it's like, Damn, I
don't like what the coach. That's why the coaches don't
teach it nothing, because if I tell my my superstars something,
(18:43):
he gonna go somewhere else to where a coach is
gonna them be free and do what he wants and
have to have questions asked, and I don't. I don't
coach like that. I'll let him know. I'll let these
kids know from the beginning to seize it. If you're
not willing to get on this boat. Ride. Let us know. Now,
we'll let you off with no problem. But this is
how it's gonna go. Wow, you like the portal options
(19:04):
like you like now. I don't like that because you
never want the castle for me. I played my same
team two years in a row. That's why we were
so good. We wanted my freshman but we were so
good my sophomore year that we should have won. We
end up losing Utah. But you got to get them
to come raader with the guys. You got to be
(19:24):
able to play with guys. You don't want new guys
every year to where it's like, see, but let me
see if these guys even play together.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
You know what.
Speaker 3 (19:32):
I think it's hurting in that aspect. And I mean,
hopefully something gets fixed, hopefully something changes, but we'll see.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
Man, you like the options of being able to sign
your own players to extending years after four years if you.
Speaker 3 (19:47):
Can't, I didn't even know that, Like I'm still really, I'm.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
Just talking about the possibility. I think college needs this.
I think if you're going to start and not even
worry about the freshman no more, I think this freshman
class is very special. I think you have the exception, right,
but years to come. I don't hear the buzzing like
I hear like now right, what if I'm hearing, and
this is what I'm hearing in college, that more people
are going after the two year player that junior college
(20:11):
who's a more experience, more stronger, more developed versus the freshmen.
If that's the case, then if you're not better than
freshman and guys coming in, then you should go ahead
and figure out a way to take you're a fourth
year player and get him two more years on your team.
That's two more years continuity, two more years of offense,
two more years of defense, two more years of terminology,
(20:34):
two more years.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Away of life.
Speaker 1 (20:35):
You know what I'm saying. So what's that?
Speaker 3 (20:38):
What's your I would like that too, But I mean,
I have no problem with freshmen. You could develop freshman
better than I think an older guy that's setting his ways.
We got a few freshmen on here already, but I
mean some have came from other schools. But I think
I don't want to mind a junior college maybe point
(21:00):
guard that's been in that situation, you know, compared to
maybe a high school point guard. And just I mean,
just it depends what you're really looking for you know, I,
like I said, you gotta from nowadays. You got to
put your eyes on them, you know what I mean.
You get a lot of I get a lot of
messages here, Mike, watch this video, watch this video. I
need to see him. Can he come in here and
work out? Can I go watch him work out? You know,
(21:21):
and just watch him in the game, in the game setting.
And I mean like, but I don't. I don't turn
my nose up to any freshman cage. I know some
freshmen out there that are going to get looked past,
that are really good, that could come in here and
play right away.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
That's real, that's real. Are you watching the Kings? Are
you keeping close out with Doug and all the Kings doing?
Speaker 3 (21:42):
Yeah? I love Doug Man. Doug's doing a great job.
I mean they're like it's in disarray, like you know,
there's so much shit going on with the team, which
I don't think is any of Doug's fault. You know,
Doug was putting this disposition with the trades he got
and this and that. Now they're trying to they're trying
to move everybody right now, you know what I mean.
So you know how that goes and when your mind,
(22:05):
uh ship, they want to trade me. So now you
kind of go on the back burner now, like you
know what, I just I'm gonna chill till something happens.
Speaker 2 (22:11):
What kind of advice you're giving them? Man like coach
to coach, Man.
Speaker 3 (22:14):
Like some advice from him? He like he I asked questions.
I went to the training camp just to try to
get some just to feed off his brain. And you
know Bobby's there, Coach Wilson's there that I had in Atlanta.
So I'm just getting them. I'm just trying to get
as much information that I can. I've always been like that.
I'm always learning, even when I was in my last
(22:35):
couple of years playing, I'm trying to pick and learn
and see stuff that I can still learn. And I'm
always learning. Case that's how the ship goes. Man. When
you when you when you can't learn no more, that's
I mean, the sh it's over with man.
Speaker 1 (22:45):
That's real. That's real as hell. That's real.
Speaker 2 (22:48):
Listen, man, I know it's I know it's Thanksgiving even stuff.
Speaker 1 (22:51):
Man.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
I got to ask you, man, do you got any
Thanksgiving or family traditions that that you're in that you're
embarking on. I know y'all working. I know y'all playing
games and stuff during the holiday and stuff.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Yeah, I won't have my family with me this this
time is probably the first Thanksgiving I don't have my
family with me around. But you know, I have my
son out here. My son's helping me coach. Tomorrow, we
gotta practice in the morning. I'm gonna take me. I'm
gonna have the kids, you know, a fun practice, nothing
too crazy, where they get up you know, some shots,
play against the love each other, and then take get
(23:25):
them a Thanksgiving dinner to the kids that don't have
anybody here family wise, could just go in there and eat,
hang out, watch some football, watch some basketball. See what
we gotta do.
Speaker 2 (23:35):
That's what's up man. You know, and don't forget man.
You everybody's big brother.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
Man them.
Speaker 2 (23:40):
I know them kids look up to you. I know
you got stories for them. Man.
Speaker 1 (23:43):
I know how much is yeah, how much of.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
You know, development off the court, you know, helping these
young men be solid young men. How much development goes
into that.
Speaker 3 (23:55):
It's a lot. Because I care about these kids, you know,
I'm not telling them. They could come to me at
any time asking what I've been, where you've been at
you know, I mean, all that stuff that you're looking
for right now, if you really put your time in it,
it's gonna be. It's gonna be when you get there,
ten times full. You know what I mean, The money,
the cars, whatever you want, whatever you like, the jewelry.
You like jewelry, it's gonna be ten times fall. You
(24:17):
get to that spot. You know you like the cars,
it's gonna be there. But you can't think that it's
just gonna that you're just gonna show up and it's
gonna happen. It ain't gonna happen like that.
Speaker 1 (24:27):
Man. You gotta showing man showing that team down footage.
Speaker 2 (24:30):
Man with y'all stunt, let's bring I think Mike was
the first guy see with the maid bag.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
You know what I'm saying.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
Do they know who you are?
Speaker 1 (24:37):
Do they know who you are? Do they know who
you are?
Speaker 3 (24:41):
Yeah? They? I mean they say that. Tell them to
watch the film and stuff too. But I mean, like
with them, I mean they'll get there, man, They just
gotta be pushed. No one's like I said, no one
I think has really ever cared about them as far
as like Hey, man, I love you your death. No
matter how I talk to you out here, it's tough love.
I'll have your back no matter what. And these kids
know that.
Speaker 2 (25:02):
Anybody signs you up, anybody want to play ones against coach.
Speaker 3 (25:06):
Now. Look, so I used to play at the beginning
of the season, right, oh shit.
Speaker 1 (25:09):
Right, get it in show you trying to keep them
lists going.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
No, I'm just trying to try to get in there,
trying to show them the right way to play, make
you know what I mean. So we got on a
fast break one time. The kid kids saw me and
he just took our full speed at that foul ship
out and I said.
Speaker 1 (25:25):
Look, look, get your out of here.
Speaker 3 (25:30):
That fact I'm out here to try to help y'all play.
I don't think that y'all get me one on one
and you're gonna clear the court. I'm a foul shit
out you you know what I mean. So I told her,
and that was on the last times I play. I
was like, I had to let him know, like, y'all
ain't gonna sit there just I throw me to death.
Speaker 1 (25:45):
Look that's what you do. They saw, They show you
as a win coach. I saw a coach. I saw
a house.
Speaker 2 (25:51):
I saw my chands, I saw I'll fuck with him
for that.
Speaker 1 (25:54):
I saw my chance.
Speaker 3 (25:56):
But look, I'm the ref though that there ain't no foul.
Speaker 1 (25:58):
You know, you can't even win in this man like
you ain't ship man. Hey, listen, I gotta say this, man.
Speaker 2 (26:06):
I've been watching Sack State get more attention for the football,
for the goddamn concerts, for the for the UFC, for
andre Ward coming out there?
Speaker 1 (26:19):
Man, what is going on in Sack State?
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Man?
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Talk about the environment of diversity amongst not just sports,
but I mean arts, music, What y'all got cracking up there?
Many change the likes, man, I need the likes to
be the goddamn sting of green Man.
Speaker 1 (26:34):
Right, stringers up?
Speaker 3 (26:35):
God damn it?
Speaker 1 (26:36):
Right?
Speaker 3 (26:37):
Right? Look, so doctor Luke Wood is changing everything man,
maybe a second, second, or third year here. And you know,
just with the hires that he made with football, the
how he made with me and basketball, bringing in shack
with us, bringing in shacks, andre Ward, You riding up.
Speaker 1 (26:56):
There, y'all got Brad belt up there?
Speaker 3 (26:58):
Yes, I mean we're making moves in the and it's
all because doctor Luke would like he's making things happen.
He knows that with athletics is going to bring a
lot of stuff. People are gonna want to come here
for the attention that they're getting. And you know, like
I said, I think I thank God for Luke, you know,
and and Mark or give me a chance to start
my career here in Sack. And you know, I have
(27:20):
my best careers here when I was playing the NBA,
and to start my career here for coaching. I mean,
I'm blessed. Man, I'm blessed.
Speaker 1 (27:27):
Man.
Speaker 2 (27:27):
Man everything, Man, Yeah, y'all on your way. Man, y'all
got y'all something special. Man, I see what I told Chus. Man,
We're gonna have to come up and catch a game live.
Speaker 3 (27:35):
Man. Let me know.
Speaker 1 (27:36):
Man. Plus man, you know what I'm saying.
Speaker 2 (27:38):
And then yeah, man, waiting you got to do that
might be be a documentary to man.
Speaker 3 (27:44):
Man, we're working on. We got to get you and
I want to get you to a game. Man. We're
gonna get you to one of the best games out here.
I tell Mike, And we get you, we get a job.
We need jobs. We need your presence out here. And
let you talk to these kids and give them give
them a real spill, you know.
Speaker 2 (27:57):
What I mean, listen, do me a little favor because
we're fans, right, so when we watch I don't know
any of your player's names. I talked to church As.
I call one guy little Kawhi, a little Klay Thompson
on there, right, I don't call Mikey nothing. Mikey's just Mikey.
(28:18):
You know what I'm saying. And it was it that ship,
you know what I'm saying. So and then big Fella.
I like big Fella cause he like a little cat.
He like a little can't any you know what I'm saying,
Like a little cat.
Speaker 1 (28:30):
You know what I'm saying. I like.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
I like young fella man before he got hurt, I
was watching me man. But when I'm watching your team, man,
y'all scrappy. You need to get some And this is
just suggestions. Well, sometimes helps is going to get footage
of some not necessarily your favorite player, but one of
them guys he left handed, He doar skined. I think
(28:53):
he got dreads, but he plays like Herb Jones.
Speaker 1 (28:55):
He got his hands on everything.
Speaker 3 (28:57):
He in the lanes, and he's right handed.
Speaker 2 (29:01):
But when I'm watching him, he's so Herb Jones in
so long like these are the examples when players see themselves.
Did I think that would help kind of bridge the
attitude and mentality of what you want and give a description.
Because a coach telling how I want you to noty
a wing like Scotty Pippen. I looked at Flip. I
(29:22):
was like, what what do you like, Scotty Pippen? What
the fuck does that even mean? Then he showed me
Scotty deny in the wing. I was like, oh, you
want me to done or note wing like that?
Speaker 3 (29:30):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (29:30):
You see how he look? Okay, look like look at
Robin and I was like, do not a wing like Robin?
Speaker 3 (29:35):
What the fuck is that? Look like?
Speaker 1 (29:36):
Did he show me did this Robin? I was like,
oh shit, yeah, what is this?
Speaker 2 (29:40):
And he was like, this is how gods play defense.
And so when I needed an example of I mean,
whether it was level, whether it was you know, knowledge
and how he was hot three quarter when he spun
he just turned this, whether it was stuff that that
was intricate, stuff that I can get just off the visual.
Speaker 1 (29:55):
Man. That helps. I'm telling you.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Try to see man, I'm gonna get on that today.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Real talk man, but I much want to uh not
only thank you for the for the for the convroo, Bro.
But thanksgiving to you, Bro, you and your family. Man,
tell your son, I said what up to the house.
I said it up. Nephews, Tell all my nephews, Jaalen
and everybody else said it up.
Speaker 3 (30:15):
Man.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
It's good to hear from you.
Speaker 3 (30:16):
Man. I will appreciate you having me on. Bro. You
got we're gonna get you out of you.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
I se my dog, my dog. I think Mike's gonna
do well up in sax State.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
Man.
Speaker 1 (30:25):
He has some vision.
Speaker 2 (30:26):
He has, you know, kind of an ideal of what
he wants. And you know, you got to go into
a program thinking, you know, foll eight years. You know
what I'm saying, being able to you know, what kind
of impact can I make while I'm here? So you know,
it sounds like he really wants to develop players from
a from a from a from a basis like understanding,
like the makeup of basketball and going back to the
(30:49):
you know, the original confiance of how you learned the
game and you know how to throw a pass and
all that stuff. Man, like true development. You know, when
you look at Damon Stoudamar, when you look at Rod Strickland,
when you look at all of the guys. Gary Payton,
point guards make some of the best best coaches just
because of their their ability to bridge knowledge, to bridge direction,
(31:15):
you know what I'm saying, Like, Yeah, I've always here,
I've always thought, Yeah, I've always thought that point guards
make the best coaches just because they're they're coaching as
they're consolidating the game.
Speaker 1 (31:24):
So yeah, man.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Shot the mic, bed Man sack State Man, gotta come
up and fuck with y'all.
Speaker 3 (31:29):
Man.
Speaker 2 (31:29):
Good luck to ship Man. Yeah go stingers stingers up. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (31:33):
Nah Yeah,
