Speaker 1 (00:00):
And Amanda gem Nation.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
How good's that? That?

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Is a brand new band called The Barnstormers, including amongst others,
Jimmy Barnes and Chris Cheney, who join us now. Hello, gentlemen,
how are you boys?

Speaker 1 (00:21):
Hello? Team? How are you doing? Morning?

Speaker 2 (00:24):
Hello?

Speaker 1 (00:25):
Chris? How are we We're good, We're awake, we're alone. Hello.

Speaker 3 (00:30):
There are great hours for you guys. I know that.
How did this come about? Because it's the two of you,
it's Jules Holland who else is in it?

Speaker 2 (00:37):
What's going on?

Speaker 1 (00:38):
Best? You want to take this one?

Speaker 2 (00:41):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (00:42):
Well, jeez, how long have we got?

Speaker 2 (00:43):
Probably not long enough, but it's it's a bit of
a long story.

Speaker 1 (00:47):
But you know, Jimmy and I have been friends for
a long time. He's been friends with Slimjin Fann and
from the Stray Cats for a long time.

Speaker 4 (00:53):
And we all share this love of rockabilly music, and
we've every time we've met up over the past sort.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
Of twenty years, should make a record one.

Speaker 2 (01:01):
Day, individuals, and and you know, like Chris and Slim
said that me and Chris said that. Me is so
that we're all been talking about it must be I've
been saying it for thirty five forty years to the
Slim and you know, Chris sends a met Chris. All
I wanted to do was make a record with him anyway.
But but finally, well, you know, we thought lockdown. We
were we were sitting at home, you know, looking at

(01:21):
ourselves on the on the phone and going, let's do something.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
And so you'd think that to.

Speaker 2 (01:26):
Make a rockabilly record, really you'd have to be locked
in the garage somewhere, all trapped in one room in
a garage.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
That's how rockabilly records are made.

Speaker 2 (01:33):
But this due to the you know, thanks to the
to the incredible help of Kevin Shirley, the wonderful record producer.

Speaker 1 (01:40):
He managed to capture us all and we're sort of
we did this record.

Speaker 2 (01:44):
Chris is in Melbourne, I was in I was in
Sydney or Berrima, you know, Jewels was in London, and
Slim was in Los Angeles. So it was like this
intercontinental look up and we kept you know, sending things
files around until slowly, you know, we would start off
with us with us to scratch guitar from from Chris
or or a rhythm from Slim, and slowly go round

(02:05):
the chain. But then it came back to me, it's
starting to sound like a band. I'd seen it come
back around again. It sounds like a record. So one
of those things that was really really great process.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Right, And I just love I love Slim Jim Fandom
on the drums.

Speaker 1 (02:17):
He's just so great, he.

Speaker 2 (02:19):
Said, is a you know, he's a ball of energy.
You know, I've always loved slim gym And another fact,
he plays standing up.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
The Slim's always sort of spinning, jumping.

Speaker 2 (02:29):
You know, he's one of the one of the one
of the really most enthusiastic guys I know who loves music.

Speaker 1 (02:35):
He always wants to play music.

Speaker 3 (02:37):
This is the stuff would be so great to hear live.
I know the debut album is out on Friday. Any
chance all of you could be in the same room
at the same time.

Speaker 2 (02:45):
We could probably all be on the same computer. We
know this and we we are trying to do it.
And we literally did have We did have a show
or two lined up, but due to some surgery that
I had to have, which we we should have in common,
we had to blow that out. But it's just a
little bit difficult. But I think at some point we're

(03:08):
going to get us all on stage at the same time.
You know the other thing I'm thinking of doing. You know,
we're going to you know the you know, the Barnstormers
are such great. There's great songs to play and great
songs to sing. And Chris and I are out and
are soon doing a red one summer to doing our
own shows, and.

Speaker 1 (03:22):
We we thought we might try and get together and
play a couple.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Of tunes here somewhere, you know, if I jump up
and his set or he gets up in Maine or something,
we do a couple of tunes as well. But we'd
love to get together. Yeah, yeah, that happened.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
Every time you and I are in the same suburb,
we end up playing.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
Maybe on stage, you could recreate one of your mum's
garages or something. She can come in give you all
a cup of tea halfway through.

Speaker 1 (03:45):
It's Australia, so we can make it a cardboard.

Speaker 3 (03:49):
Up and complain.

Speaker 4 (03:50):
I love the film clip to it too, It's so great,
the animation of the film clip, and it's got the
odd traditional drag race. You know, they're racing for pinks
and then because they used to in the olden days,
go heading towards a.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Cliff and you'd have to stop before you got to
the cliff.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
You know, the girls waving the flag. Yeah, it's very
very old old school. It was a great thing because
we you know, obviously we couldn't be in the same room.
We're trying to try to do photos and trying to
do all that stuff. So it was really great. Slims
a friend of Slims, who's who's comic strip, right drawer,
you know, animator. He he did the drawings for the
covers and stuff, and then we found an animator in

(04:24):
Italy to make the clips.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
So although the band hasn't been in the same.

Speaker 2 (04:28):
Room, would managed to make film clips and do press
shots and do all this stuff.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
It's really it's very cool, fantastic.

Speaker 3 (04:33):
It's a modern super group.

Speaker 2 (04:34):
Sorry Chris morphed into Edwards scissor Hands in the That
was something I didn't expect. When we got the cartoons back,
We're go, hang on, can you make me a bit
slimmer make than the slim.

Speaker 4 (04:49):
Well, and that clip could just be driving in traffic
these days.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Yeah, you'd be in trouble for that. When we called over,
I reckon, well to you and your own.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Thing with that truck drop and what the hell happened
with that?

Speaker 1 (05:02):
I thought, man, that was just that was his nightmare.

Speaker 2 (05:04):
Was just a guy having a bad day and hit
the wrong But I was also having you know, I
didn't want add a bad day after he hit my car.

Speaker 4 (05:11):
But did you know did you know what was did
he know it was you?

Speaker 1 (05:14):
No, he didn't have He didn't have a clue. But
he wanted to fight me.

Speaker 2 (05:17):
And I was standing in the in the in the
dark in Port Bottley, in the in the middle of that,
thinking I want to fight now this you know, you
know this guy I could if I hit him, you know,
I could probably you know, if I miss kill me.

Speaker 1 (05:33):
I've got to at this point in my life, I
don't want to be fighting you know.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Truck he's in the street, you know, and uh and
so so we just sort of I got the cops
and you know, it's like.

Speaker 3 (05:42):
A rework of the movie Duel.

Speaker 2 (05:47):
But to say that, you know, he was he was
lucky he was dealing with me and not Jane.

Speaker 4 (05:53):
Well, Jimmy and Chris. It's great to toward you barn Stormers.
The debut album is out on Friday.

Speaker 1 (05:59):

Speaker 1 (06:02):
Yeah, we are so excited. Look at the cowboy Jimmy's
holding up on the zoom. You look at that vinyl.
We love vinyl, and it just sounds so good for
the material.
