(02:30):
we get to Joe Hartiz, I'llflip you out. I will look you
out. This is the flip topstory of the day. Well, Matt,
the FlipTop story of the day involvessomething that we're all involved in,
which is the NBA Playoffs. ButI'm not break down the basketball and say,
look that guy's better at the four. You know, I'm not going

(02:50):
to do anything like that. I'mnot gonna Yes. As a matter of
fact, who's the greatest power forit of all time? Your calls Jim
Duncant all the way looking for him, doesn't get his flowers? Give give
Malone's flowers. No, I meanaround this time of year, and it
happens during the tournament. It happensduring the football season. God, it
happens during the bowl season where youget really tired of these big corporate sponsors

(03:15):
and their commercials never stop. Theone everybody's upset with right now is the
what a pro wants, well thepro needs with home Grin and Sega.
Yeah, whatever makes me happy,SE's me. People don't like that.
I don't even know what it's commercialfor. Maybe Capital One or something.

(03:35):
That's a good question. I don'teither write like insurance anyway, people are
tired of the commercials. And theother day I was watching When you Were
Out and I mentioned to John McClain, I was watching one of these games
where some crazy medication was being advertised, because that's a big part of advertising
now. And then the side effectscame on. And we've all heard these
jokes, you know. The sideeffects are just labial, yeah, And

(03:58):
we talked about the inflamed per neum, you know, and that's our favorite
one. And then I heard thisone. One of the side effects was
suicidal thoughts. It's like, okay, that's not good. And then the
next side effect, it said wassuicidal behavior worse than suicide, Like you
take this for your piriasis or whatever, and next thing you know, you're
doing trapeze without a net, oryou're running across the one ten freeway,

(04:23):
or you're drinking laundry detergent. Like, why that's suicide. Suicidal behavior is
suicide. I mean, I'm justgoing to go with some lotion, right,
I'm gonna go ahead and bypass thismedication and go with the better motion
over the counter corder zone. Perhapsyou go fight a lion, you know,
I mean, take this soiriasis medicationand no longer care bungee cord with

(04:44):
Debbie dudes and I don't know, but that kind of and I mentioned that
to Donnas. It isn't suicidal behaviorsuicide, you know, So that U
was an eye opener to me.And then Matt brought us to this.
I've never looked up a medication beforein my life until recently, and that
brings us to this. Everybody knowsI suffer from sleep apnea and have slept

(05:05):
with a sea pat machine full facemask since like two thousand and eight,
around the time our show started. And the other day I saw a commercial
you Ready to do It for sleepapnea sufferers, and they made fun of
the ugly sleep apnea sufferers that wearmasks like me. They're all ugly from

(05:27):
beating the kids, beat up people, all those people make them made to
look ridiculous. They're portrayed his clownsand buffoons. Because there's this guy who
comes in and he's got a newsleep apnea device and he's just holding a
remote control. And this guy isnot made to look like a fat,
ugly mask wearer. He's good lookingin sleep pretty sleep. Well, it's

(05:50):
you know, advertising one on onethere ye yeah, right, Like Pat
O'Brien's asked in Marches, it's likeFox News, which way do you think
they lean? Right, Hannity, good looking guy Colms looks like a frog.
That's it's not fair. And thisguy comes in and he says,
all these guys are remote control andhe's sitting here making fun all these people
wearing their mat what's the remote controlfor? Well, that's the thing.

(06:12):
So I looked it up and I'mlike, all it is is a remote
control And I don't have to wearthis whole apparatus and clean it and get
up in the middle of the nightall tangled up and all I have to
do. It looked like like theGun and Star Trek, you know where
they hold that you like a remotecontrol? And uh, it turns out
it's not just a remote control,Matt. They stick some kind of thing

(06:34):
in your body by surgery. It'sa freaking implant. Oh, here we
go. You're getting an implant. It's an implant with an app. No,
but I was like, you know, like it's one thing to unlock
your car with an ass sure andbe like, hey, this is pretty
cool. Unlock your airway with anapp or even do the thing that people
like doing a open table, like, hey, check it out. Look,

(06:56):
I got my rose, a littlerose right when I sit down.
But not like this, Not likethat. No, I mean a pacemaker
for your throat. They stick inthere and there's a wire and it goes
down to your chest. That's notjust a guy going around her. Look
at it's a remote control. Lookingat all, you fat losers. All
I got is this remote control checkme out. Hey, shut up,
dude, and a scar. Whatare you talking about? Yeah, it's

(07:18):
like George Washington dying a cutting attemptto trick me. That's what it was.
A ruse. Well it did work. You did, you did research
it. All I need is anapp to sleep without a hose strapped to
my head, And in real lifeit's a pacemaker like the one Jerry Arbach
died from an FX. Like, that's what I need, really, Like,

(07:46):
I'd rather strap the thing to myhead. But I was resentful Matt
because the guy's all good looking andskinny. I don't even need it.
It's like, yeah, because yougot your throat punched. I feel misled,
Like when my phone says it's notraining and there's rain. Deeply misled
and I looked it up like anidiot. So you're not getting a surgery?
No, No, I did aboutthe nose surgery, the deviated septa.

(08:09):
What about that one? Well, you get fat again and then your
nose fills in. What happens ifI break a leg or something and I'm
laid out? What about? Whatabout? I don't feel like getting my
nose snaked out. I'm just askingthat the black guy. That guy's he's
a clown. There are many otheroptions available, and it sounds like you've

(08:31):
researched them all. Look I like, this one's just an app. My
mask is my map. But Ijust didn't like it. I was like,
oh, it is is a allI gotta do is hold a phone
to my chest? Is it lookslike this guy's just holding a phone to
his chest. No, he's holdingthe phone to his chest because they put
a machine in. How did Petrosdie? He had his phone on auto
updates in the middle of the night, started updating the app, cried,

(08:52):
and his trait closed. What ifsomebody hacked it? I'm gonna hack Petros'
app, cut off his airway?Well, he's sleeping. I don't want
my app hacked. What is itthat you wanted me to a hockey this
week? And then I will shutit? No problem. It gots me.
They want to cut you like amoil and put that thing. I

(09:13):
don't want it. You sure, yes, But I felt really stupid because
I was like, look at thatguy. He better look at I look
like all those old sad, baldgray men with the thing on their friends,
like why do I have to learnfor like Glympse? And then the
guy comes in, he's like lookat me, like me, no,
you don't, you cyborg? Youfreak. Anyway, I had a problem

(09:33):
with that. Understandable, it's beenmisleading. And I don't mind the what
a pro wants cause it took mea long time to figure out that was
chet holmgrin. I just thought itwas a random, like dirty looking white
guy. Well on the way out, I guess I will lodge this complaint
enough with the head shaver. That'sthe one that I'm seeing all playoffs long,

(09:54):
these guys with the six dollars head. Oh this out and it's called
like not it's not a rimming ten. It's it's like a Romington. It's
got like one letter difference from thehigh end head shaver. I see that
damn thing all the look at howit fits into my hand, and it
just go on. And the worstpart is we're only in the first round.
Yes, like more of these coming. It's gonna be the same like

(10:16):
they just they never stop. Bythe end of it, you're gonna be
a cyborg. You're gonna get that. What of pro wants, what a
pro needs? Whatever makes me happy? Yeah, that thing's not just an
appy hold of your chest, kids, I've done the research. I looked
it up. Okay, we'll beback Georgi, Oh Chargers, the GM

(10:41):
of the Chargers will join us inthe very ye. Yeah, I throw
some money. Ham five seventy LASports were live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app.
It is a MODELO meet you alot of Monday on PMS, MODELO
not to meet you a lot ofIt's not made with MODI A reward for
those with a fighting spirit Modello lamarkI'm a fighter. And he fought his

(11:05):
way through the draft from the meanstreets of Philadelphia and of course made his
way through Baltimore. Where are GeorgesBaltimore to come out here to the city
of Los Angeles and handle his firstdraft for the Los Angeles Chargers, the
new GM of the Chargers. Aftera beautiful looking draft, and who's to

(11:31):
say what happens next? Maybe hetakes some time to say, go back
to Philly, walk around in themorning like Rocky, enjoy the Philadelphia morning.
Joining us on here Southern California ToyotaDealer Celebrity Hotline. It is Charger
GM. Joe Hortiz on the Petrosomebody show on AMPHI Ceviity La Sports.
What's cracking Joe? How are youwelcome? Oh? Appreciate you guys.

(11:54):
One in the intro. I'll tellyou what you know. I don't know
I'll ever get one like that again. Come back on come next week.
Yeah, well I'll do the cancan all right. It's always a lot
of fun. What was it likeit? It was widely celebrated what you
guys did. But what's the feelingafter it's all done and you got all
your guys. I'll tell you what, there's a lot of excitement around here,

(12:15):
uh, you know, with allof us, and uh really felt
like we were able to get youknow, nine players that can really impact
the roster and really, like I'vementioned in some of the pressers. You
know, the depth we we youknow, we've gotten some high level starters
in this draft, I believe, and then uh really helped add to the
depth and the competition on the roster. So really looking forward to seeing them

(12:37):
out here in a couple of weeks. Uh, And uh everyone up here
has fired up and uh excited, and nothing's changed in that regard, you
know since since I got here withcoach and uh, you know, everyone's
walking around this building with smiles onenergy and enthusiasm, and certainly there's there's
plenty of it after this past weekend. You made one trade up Joe in
the second round. You jump acouple of spots to get Lad Conky,

(13:00):
the wide receiver. You do that, it's obviously a particular player that you
have your eye on to make thatmove. What is it about Lad?
You had a couple of receivers onthe board at that time that that made
you want to go up and getthem. Yeah, you know, you
rank every player in the draft, and uh, he was a guy that
all the scouts had looked at anduh, you know, and the coaches
had done and he was really oneof those players that just stood out through

(13:24):
the process. Heck, you know, uh, you know John, John
Spanos and I talk a lot,and he was it was one of his
guys. He you know, hewas always talking to me about lad and
uh, and we just had agood time, you know, talking about
his ability and and whether he'd bethere, and we just it was one
of those players that's just when helooked at the stack and where we had
him ranked and the number of whiteoutsthat were going, Uh, he was

(13:46):
our clear cut guy at whiteout anduh and really the highest guy on our
in our stack available, and itwas just he was the one. And
so let's not mess around. There'steams in front of us that that needed
whiteouts, and you know, wefelt like we should go get the guy
with a trade that we didn't haveto give up a pick. We just
had to move a pick down alittle bit. And it just it made

(14:07):
sense to us. You had acouple players, and you never know what
to make right. Every team's boardlooks different as to whether or not a
guy is sliding, is taken toohighs you got great value because he's taken
late. But it did seem consensuswise that two particular players that you drafted
Junior Colston, the middle linebacker outof Michigan, was projected to go as
early as one of the top picksof the second round, and Brendan Rice,

(14:30):
the wide receiver out of usc wasexpected to be a mid rounder,
third, fourth round. You gethim in the seventh. Kind of what
was it about those two guys thatmaybe made them available to you? And
what do you love about getting themthere with what seems to be a lot
of value. Yeah, well, certainly we love to answer to the second
question, you know, love thevalue we got in those players. Certainly
we had them much higher than inour you know, where they were picked

(14:52):
by us, much higher in ourstack than where we picked them. So
definitely felt like they were great grabsand you know of why they were there,
you know, you can, youcan you know, there's it's a
deep wide receiver class, you know, and I think a lot of good
receivers went throughout the course of thedraft. And uh, you know,
everyone has different, you know, different flavors of ice cream they like,

(15:13):
you know, and you may walkinto the ice cream store and chocolate chips
almost all gone, but you canget chocolate chip cookie though, you know.
So, uh, everyone has justdifferent, just different opinions on receivers
and then liebackers. You know,it's kind of one of those draft,
one of those positions that are alittle suppressed in the draft, I think
over the past past few years. And we were fired up to get Junior,

(15:35):
and I did think he would Ithought there was a chance he might
be there because of the position heplayed, but I did expect that that,
you know, he would be gone. So when he was still there
at sixty nine, we were veryexcited to get him. Never underestimate the
power of the Lewis Lips, RainbowSherbert, the Petroson Money Show, Welcoming

(15:56):
Joe Hartiz, Chargers, GM,and very excited draft, very exciting time
as Jim Harbaugh and his regime hasbeen hired and Hortiz is the man in
charge making the picks. And it'sbeen a great draft at least that's what
everybody's saying, and we believe it. Speaking of that, we had Joe
alt on on Friday after round oneand he joined us and sounded kind of

(16:18):
like almost like a prototype offensive ifyou had a guy from a movie.
He was like a really straight lacedoffensive line type. He really came off
like the real deal. What isit that's so exciting about this guy that
could make him such a high picketright tackle. Well, I'll tell you
what. He's just he's an eliteathlete. When you watch him play and
just to be that big and beable to bend and move and just you

(16:42):
know run. You watch them getout in space and watch them cover ground.
That's fun. His competitiveness stands out, you know, he works on
blocks, gets worse to get theblock, knocks guy's over, you know,
knocks guys across the line, youknow, line of scrimmage on his
down blox, high level competitor. But then you flip it over to just

(17:03):
talking about the guy like you mentioned, you know, like just such a
great, great competitor, great characterleader on his team, No nonsense,
let's just go play ball. Justhe's just wired right. It's going to
bring the right type of attitude thatwe're looking here for the Chargers and just
I mean just really easy pick, easy pick at five. In the end,

(17:26):
we get a lot of access, and that's a credit to you and
the coaching staff or allowing that access. I know, the NFL, you
know, it doesn't necessarily mandate butstrongly encourages you. You allow a lot
of it. But it's it's funto watch the calls to the picks and
passing the phone around, especially whenthey have a prior relationship with with the
staff from an interview or a combinemeeting or you know, being recruited by

(17:48):
coach Harbaugh. But like, whatdo we not see what's going on between
you know, you've got hours betweenpicks, But what are you guys doing?
Are you staying in that room?Do you get the break for lunch
in case somebody calls? I wouldassume you got to stay there. Like
what are you guys doing? Uh? Yeah, a little bit of everything?
You know, typically when when youknow, when we pick, especially

(18:08):
the day one is a little different. You pick and then you're pretty much
done unless you're going to go backin which I don't think we're looking to
do that. But you know, give an example on day on day two,
every really every after every pick, you know, we make a selection.
Certainly we have conversations myself and John, you know, we kind of

(18:30):
scrimmage about philosophy, thought stack thisguy, that guy. Uh, and
then Jim comes in and so John, Jim and I will have conversations and
how we're going to attack the day, start the day, and then immediately
after we pick, John's finals looksso across from me and he's like,
you know, what are you thinkinghere? You know, And and it's
it's fun because you you know, yeah, those two picks in the in

(18:52):
the fifth round back to back, you know, or not back to back,
but separating them. It's like, okay, if one of these players
are gone, you know, he'llask Rush and what's your strategy here?
You know, you know, Andso it's it's good you kind of like
have little scrimmages. We kind ofknow who the players are in the list,
but what's the what's the process ofattack? And so it's great communication
between the three of us during thedraft. And uh and and then we

(19:15):
go and get something to eat,you know, and then get a drink
and and come back in. Butuh, I may bounce out for a
little bit and you know, watcha little you know, highlight tape on
a player, watch a po atape. If I'm if we're thinking about
two players, I may jump outand go to my office and just okay,
I like them both. If they'reboth you know they're right there,
one and two right on the stack. If they're both there, who are

(19:36):
we going to take? You know? And so uh, you know,
but it's great, you know, the conversation, the dialogue. It's not
a big debate in the draft. The board has already been stacked. But
just having having Jim and John thereto kind of scrimmage philosophy is awesome to
have. Did you sleep during theweekend, you know, this being your
first draft is the GM with Wasit nerve wracking it was it impro visational

(20:00):
like a jazz song or did youkind of feel like, you know you
had it under control? I definitelyfelt like I had it under control.
I do feel like, you know, I was trained extremely well by Eric
and Ozzy during my twenty five draftsin Baltimore, and so I followed that
script, probably too much to thepoint where I didn't even get a chance

(20:21):
to enjoy my first making my firstpick. To be honest with you,
everyone everyone tells you enjoy it,take it in, soak it in at
your first pick, and I justyou know, I made the first pick
of Joe, and I was firedup to pick Joe. But it's just
like, make sure we do everythingright, you know, follow the script,
follow the procedure, and so Ireally never I didn't soak it in
until afterwards, you know. SoI messed that up when everyone told me

(20:45):
to make sure you soak it in. And uh, but that's okay because
I was fired up to get himand I soaked it in the next day
when he was here. But uh, yeah, you know, just you
follow you follow the process. I'veknown, you know, and did that.
And so sleep wise, you know, I I slept, you know,
maybe four hours each night. Andit's not not because of anxiety.

(21:06):
It's more because of excitement. Youknow. You you go to bed and
then you just you hope you cansleep till five, but you don't.
You just get up and like, all right, we're gonna go go in
the office, you know. So, but no, it's it's been good.
I slept a little bit, youknow, Saturday night. I slept
in on Sunday morning. Now,Joe, whenever somebody comes to LA,
you know, and there's a lotof differences here. I'm sure you've noticed,

(21:27):
you know. There's no old Bayon every table and nothing like that.
Yeah, Uh, we worry aboutif somebody going Hollywood. Now we
look at you, you see, like a pretty grounded guy. You know,
you get the Four Boys and allthat. Uh, but we are
a little worried. We're concerned, you know, about you getting you know,
getting a big convertible, cruising upand down the big chain, doing

(21:47):
a tunnel walk, you know thatkind of thing. You know. Uh,
if that, if you're if youhave those concerns, it's because of
our social media team. They're outstanding. And you know, I've seen some
you know, some of the memesthey've put out there, but that's they're
just means, that's not me.You know, I'm gonna I'm always going
to be pretty low key and grounded. I think. I mean, they
used to put a cigarette in Telasco'smouth and I see, I see,

(22:10):
I mean trumpty. My friends, family and friends are sending me stuff and
I'm like, oh, dear God. You know, so it's all right,
just lay low, Yeah, youknow, I will lay low.
So what what now, Joe?Like, what now that the draft's done?
You hear about the second wave offree agency, and I know you've
got a couple of camps coming uphere, but like, what are the

(22:32):
next steps to to try and tobuild this this roster and get ready for
for late July early August. Yeah, there's a couple of guys out there
we've been talking, you know, talking through and uh, a couple of
targets in free agency that we're youknow, we're going to talk to and
see if they want to come onboard and join join the fun, you
know. And uh, I thinkwe'll probably add a few names over over

(22:52):
the next couple of weeks. Anduh, again, you sign somebody this
week, next week end of June, in August. You know, we're
always going to be looking. We'realways going to be looking for guys that
can help us win games once theseason gets here. So that will never
stop and I won't stop once theseason starts. And but that's about it.

(23:15):
You know. The rookies come innext weekend, not this coming weekend,
the weekend after that. So that'sit's like we've opened up the Christmas
presents. But we've been told wehave to sit there and look at them
for two hours before we get toplay with them. So we got to
wait for a little bit to goget out there and play with them.
But we're all looking forward to seeingthem out here in a couple of weeks.
Well one of the great most anticipatedI think off season in Chargers history.

(23:37):
Congratulations on the draft, Joe,Welcome to Los Angeles, to you
and your family, and we'll talkto you soon. Thank you so much
for doing it. Oh thanks guys. All right, there we go.

lay off the the game diary, the Twitter diary. We were able to

(26:18):
put our differences aside for the night. Well, he announced on Twitter beforehand,
though I'm gonna be preoccupied, Yeah, yeah, I was able to
get the news out to you guysthat he was going to be preoccupied.
For those of you, since mytweets get zero likes and zero retweets,
that's how most of my followers,my boy hare had to run across four
Land because I'm going to be preoccupiedwith the friend's birthday party. I will

(26:44):
not be live tweeting the game asmuch as it'll be more of like an
emotional reaction in the moment as opposedto like me doing my job that I've
anointed with myself. And then I'mgonna put myself on Adams level, even
though he actually works on the Clipperbroadcast. I'm gonna take a picture with
him to be like, even thoughwe're not. Yeah, but you don't

(27:04):
Okay, go to a protest.Go to a protest and yell at
somebody. You should be videoing yourselfwith USC protesters in the background. Go
interview the commencement speakers, find outwhy they're boycotting the satellite commencement. You
mean even my Russian literature commencement isgetting punked, like I can't get my

(27:26):
degree from Stanislovsky in his rollout.Sorry, Patrick O'Neil's never looked better.
That's true, Matt. For yourdead kuy birthday of the day beating out
the immortal Duke Ellington is April Stevens. This was interesting. She's ninety five,
but she's dead. But she diedjust last year, and it's like
she's almost alive, barely dead, barely but dead. Not as barely dead

(27:52):
as the explorer not breathing, whowas dead, who we didn't was missing,
Yeah, was missing. We know, we know resoomed he was dead,
so he really shouldn't have been thealive. No, if there's a
middle, we should have a middle. We were holding out of this.
We don't know about this, guys, right on the edge of critical in
hospital. April Stevens said, diedin Scottsdale, Wayfy Jackie O haircut type

(28:17):
was born Caroline low Tempeo in NiagaraFalls, New York City, and she
began her career as a singer inher early twenties for RCA Victor and hit
the charts early. First three songsmade it to the top thirty, and
she returned in fifty nine with thelurid Teach Me Tiger, which received minor

(28:42):
Is that like double on ton TeachMe Tiger. Well, it's not like
you're going to teach me how tobe a tiger and eat wildebeest. It
was like teach me Tiger. Sexualsuggestiveness uproar and Minnie Boycott and uh,
who doesn't want to be taught bya tiger to copulate? Teach Me Tiger

(29:06):
was that's who taught us largely bad. Yeah, the two pull smokers over
here, we were taught Scar howto be a tiger. When smoke a
pole, I'm going to attack thatpole. She could have been huge,

(29:26):
like the two Live Crew album.Band in the USA would Teach Me Tiger,
but just way ahead of its time. Yeah. She had a partnership
with her brother Antonio and he playedunder Nino tempo with some sweet jazz influence
pop and they had a number one. They did the song Deep Purple and

(29:48):
that earned them a number one anda Grammy, and Glenn Campbell was a
session musician on it, like Hey, where am I in nineteen sixty three
Deep in My Purple? No,just deep Purple. Oh not the band
either, And then the British invasioncame and jazzy style pop music was no

(30:08):
longer popular. She continued to haveEuropean success in the seventies because those Europeans
are cheesy, wild and crazy guys. You can see that Foxes. Teach
Me Tiger was used by NASA fortwo to three decades to wake up the

(30:30):
astronauts in the shuttle. That's whatthey played. Teach me Tiger, Teach
me to f Teach me to smokethat space, Teach me Tiger. That
Matt, you take it up withNASA. You're the NASA guy around here.
I'm with VIC. I want aband. She was ninety three and

(30:51):
died last year. Well you're alive guy. Happy seventy seventh, we
go old timey music. The oceanis what should be explored. Deep.
We don't know what's down there.It's like a different planet. Cures they're
all down there, the anus ofthe globe. Happy seventy seventh. He
probably should not be our live guyBirthday of the day. See here's a

(31:11):
middle ground. Tommy James was pronounceddead. Yeah, Tommy James has been
collapsed on stage from an overdose. And he was dead for like thirty seconds.
He's been right on the border foryears. However, he was revived
and he is alive. Tommy Jamessuffers from Van Morrison and Jack Black disease,
rack long hair and the ugly frontman. But you're a kick ass

(31:34):
front man. But man, areyou ugly? Which is interesting? Not
as bad as looking glass mind?Well, no, that's considered the worst.
However, he was a child modelat the age of four. I
mean he was a good looking guywhen he was He saw life Garrett.
He's no Lafe Garrett. But hehad drugs like Tommy James is a legend.

(31:56):
Yes, I'm sorry, exactly, excuse me. One of the most
par artists of the sixties and earlyseventies. Monster Trio Come on Monster number
ones, all three of them, bing vain, boom, we got,
I think we're alone Now that's theJab Money, Moony Hook and Crimson and
Clover over hand right, come boobink bang Boom. That's Tommy James trio.

(32:22):
Born and date. Moved to Michiganchild model at four. As we
mentioned fifty nine, he starts asfirst band The Echoes, turned into tom
and the Tornadoes Little Insensitive Today. When he was seventeen though, they became
Tommy James and the Shonvills. Brokeout of Niles, Michigan Wnil Hanky Panky

(32:42):
local smash, but never caught onnationally until some random Pittsburgh dance club owner
found a copy and a used recordbin started playing it and it was like
the biggest song in Pittsburgh. Soa bootlegger starts pressing copies and they move
what is estimated to be about eightyin ten days. Tommy gets word of

(33:04):
it. Now you got a numberone song in Pittsburgh and they've sold like,
I don't know, eighty or onehundred thousand copies, So we high
tailed it over there. Jerry Wexler, famous record exec from Atlantic, says
he tried to sign Tommy James, but he got a call from Morris Levy
over at Roulette Records and he waslike, you're not gonna sign him,
because we're gonna sign it. Andthe mob got it? You know that

(33:25):
did? The Michigan Mob got involved. Now Roulette Records, the Genovese family
of New York decided to make TommyJames a national sensation. I think we're
alone down number one. Where doesthe name Mony Money come from? Mutual
of New York Insurance Company? Neonsign right outside of Tommy's apartment window.

(33:45):
M O n y uh. Thisis pretty cool for money Money. James
had the idea to make a videoof the band performing the song with sort
of a film attached to it,like, Hey, we're going to tell
the storyline through acting while we're performing, and there was no venue for it
in the US. They tried topitch it to TV stations, but they
wouldn't program it, so it wasonly seen in Europe. Between double features

(34:08):
made it a huge hit overseas MTVand vh one Classic Product Back. Of
course, James took months to dropa marketing plan for their new song,
Crimson and Clover, and he wantedto pitch it and see what his friends
at WLS and Chicago thought. Yeah, they decided to record it while he
played it for him in a separatestudio, and by the time he was

(34:30):
in the lobby. They were alreadyplaying Oh no. He was like,
oh, I guess that's the marketingplan number one song. As I mentioned,
odeed on stage in seventy Got Clean, did some solo work in seventy
one when the Gambinos and Genoveses wereat war, Leevy said, hey,
beat it for about a year ortwo because I'm afraid they're going to kill

(34:50):
you to get back and meet arock and roll star. He wrote about
it in his book Me, theMob and the Music. Figured he was
short at thirty forty million bucks inrows. He got screwed. Yeah,
he got screwed royally, pardon thepunt. Yeah. If you ever want
to like, uh, you know, calm the tiger. You know what
I'm saying, Like, do youwant to want to get Bobby Miller's chest

(35:12):
in order? And the person's fromMichigan, you can play some Tommy James
now if you want to flip thaton it's the other side of the coin
and get that person riled up.Bob Seeger, play you play out you
want down on Main Street, youknow? Or or Tommy James. You

(35:32):
