effects Yeah We're three fun fact.Coca Cola certified kosher in nineteen thirty five.
However, when they changed up therecipe to include high fruit coast corn
syrup that was used mostly in theUS in the nineteen eighties, no bueno
(03:02):
when it comes to the kosher, particularly during Passover. So each year,
in the weeks leading up, bottlersand markets with substantial Jewish populations switch their
sweeteners in order to obtain kosher forPassover certification, and they put a yellow
bottle cap on top of those particularbottles of coke to let them know that
(03:25):
that is in fact kosher. Well, I know what to get you next
passover. I'll tell you that yellowcaps for everybody around here. That's what
I was just doing three weeks ago. Man, it was just all yellow
cap coke from a peep quick hits. Everybody TMS quick hits. I'll make
it quick, y'all. Yeah. What a day in golf. It's hard
(03:58):
to explain news. Yeah, thisis international news. I mean international.
You wake up in the morning andyou see everything, you know, the
mugshot of Tiger Woods and John Dayand Scheffler, and then people tweeting out
I'm getting the crew together, youknow, or or the picture of the
white bronco chase, but instead it'sScheffler and a golf cart and everybody's behind
(04:20):
him chasing him, and Johnny Cochranesaying if the glove is on me,
I'll see you at the first teand all kinds of different simes are really,
really, really hot situation out inLouisville. People saying the cops left
up this dude's pants are scuffed. My god. Yeah, other saying,
(04:43):
uh, entitlement, white privilege,Highland Park. Scottie Scheffler, the number
one golf in the world, justwon the Masters, a few weeks back.
This is the second major PGA Championshipin Louisville at Valhalla. There was
sadly a fatality in a car accident. One of the shuttle buses that was
taking people in and out of Valhallahit a pedestrian. They passed at the
(05:04):
scene. So it was Mayhem Scheffler'strying to get to the golf course and
he was being blocked and he saysthat he was following instructions and this cop
just jumped on his hood out ofnowhere. The cops say, no,
that's not what happened. He wasbeing a jerk and was trying to go
around the blockade. And he getsarrested, handcuffed, charge with second degree
(05:25):
assault on a police officer. That'sa felony like five to seven years,
third degree criminal mischief, misdemeanor, reckless driving, and disregarding signals from an
officer. And then he goes outand he shoots a freaking five under and
he's in the third place. Youknow what, it feels good to be
a gangster, You know what Imean? You heard that ghetto boy sound.
(05:45):
How do you encapsulate everything that happenedto you today? I don't really
know. I feel like my head'sstill spending. I can't really explain what
happened this morning. I did spendsome time stretching in a jail cell.
That was the first for me.I was part of my warm up.
I was just sitting there waiting, and you know, I started going through
my warm up. I felt likethere was a chance I maybe be able
to still come out here and play, and so I started going through my
(06:08):
routine and I tried to get myheart rate down as much as I could
today. But like I said, you know, I still feel like my
head spinning a little bit. Butyeah, I was fortunate to be able
to make it back out and playsome golf there. I mean, every
time there's I feel like there's fatalities. When they people start driving around these
clubs all crazy. Remember there's alwayshappens at the riv when everybody gets into
town and these golfers they're driving around, they're crazy, ferraris and stuff and
(06:31):
everybody wild. There was that well, they give all the players cars.
You know, there's always a carsponsor, and so they're all driving these
fancy cars that they're used to Genesis. The Genesis, there's Mercedes, there's
Hyundai's. There's four like there there'sa car spot. But only one of
them ripped Tiger Woods legs off.And that was a genesis. And that
was reaching for a pill bottle. It could have been like an individual pill
(06:56):
pack. I always thought of itas like a pill pack. Oh see,
I always thought of it is thatbrown bottle with Now see, I
always thought of it as like, you know, he gave him some generics
so he didn't have to write aprescription for Tice, like a bunch of
samples, right, because he's adrug addict. Right, I got you.
So. Anyway, crazy day inthe golf world and golfers they're just
like us criminals. Dodgers have losttwo in a row and anemic effort last
(07:23):
night and they host the Reds again. Yes, well, that anemic effort
in back to back night, guyshas made the Dodgers make some roster moves.
Here we go. Miguel Vargas calledup from Triple A. Right,
Jason Hayward activated according to Dave Robertsin the lineup tonight for the Dodgers,
and the corresponding moves is the Dodgershave activated Jason Hayward, recall Miguel Vargas,
(07:48):
recall Ricky venasco. They have optionedNick Ramirez, James Altman as we've
talked about out back to Triple A, and they placed Max Munsey on the
injured list with the right oblique strain. So there you go, guys,
just up to everybody on the Dodgermoves. How about that big moves for
the Dodgers, shaking things up,shaking things up after losing time. I
(08:09):
never thought Barkuna would get his revengelike that. He truly does have the
blood of the jaguar, you know. Choe Altani was honored at the LA
City Hall this morning by city councilpeople. Ceremony, oh just meaningful as
hell, presented with a resolution declaringMay seventeen, Shoe Altani Day. We'll
never hear of this ever again aftertoday. That's true story. In the
(08:31):
city of Los Angeles. We'll callthis Shoe Altani Day for the duration of
his career. That will not happen. But here it is of part of
them saying he is not arguably thebest player statistically, he is the best
player in baseball right now. Andmister O'tani, thank you. So much.
It is May, it is AsianAmerican Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Is
(08:54):
where we celebrate the different contributions ofAsians from across the city of Los Angeles.
And while we hope you think ofLos Angeles as your home away from
your other home, we want tofill that role because as someone growing up
in the city who loved sports, wanting to see Asian players, wanting to
(09:16):
see someone who looked like me,and now player in baseball. You know,
let's look like off three sentences ofGopal playing for the Dodgers. It's
such a privilege that you're doing becausewe have people in politics, we have
(09:37):
people in entertainment, all these differentthings, and now we have someone in
sports. Thank you so much,Thank you Counsel President for allowing me to
be a part of this presentation becauseas a Dodger fan. So, ladies
and gentlemen of the Los Angeles CityCouncil, Ladies and gentlemen of Los Andeles,
(10:00):
please welcome the greatest baseball player inAmerica, Shohtani uh okay. I
mean, it's a wonderful thing tobe honored in that way. But he
could have just said, as youwere alluding to Matt, you are our
number one Asian guy. And thenit's like, that's what happens. He's
(10:22):
got that right. The guy hadthe first three sentences, Yeah, but
you're good. They always feel nervousand they start calling him Pete Carrott and
and then it's like, no,no, here we go scrip off script.
Dave Roberts was there as the councilrecognized Otani for his athletic achievement and
historic impact as an Angelina of Japanesedescent. Here's Otani thinking the city to
(10:45):
see you lots, I know whata con First of all, I want
(11:07):
to thank you, thank you, know, thank you very much for having
me today, especially to the LaCity Council. I'm incredibly honored and humbled
by the recognition that I am receivingtoday. And also I want to really
thank the Dodger's organizations for their continuedsupport, as well as to the entire
(11:28):
people of the city of La translatedperfectly, and whoever thought that that was
going to be possible once Ipe wentdown right? No, what else speaks
Japanese? They found someone else thatwasn't an a whole? Can we find
a guy that's not like a completelydiabolical crook that's going to ruin this guy's
life. Can we find somebody thatdoesn't do that? No, No,
we can't. How about you agentwho just cashed a seven hundred million dollar
(11:50):
deal. Now, we're not goingto hire a translator, he's already got
one. Couldn't get that figured outthe agency. You're just gonna let this
guy get siphoned. I played theAngel and they're sixteen or twenty eight,
and they're in Arlington to take onthe Rangers. The Angels struggle mightily on
the road, and at home theydo sign games, though they kick an
(12:11):
ad oh. The NBA has theLakers still searching for a head coach.
Remember, Phoenix moved briskly and hiredMike Budenholzer immediately after firing Frank Vogel.
Not the case with the Lakers takingtheir sweet ass time, because they continue
to build the narrative that JJ Reddickis in high demand and is ready to
(12:31):
be a head coach and will bean incredible head coach. And until they
feel like that narrative is perfectly crafted, they're going to go ahead and hold
off and pretend like they actually areinterested in some other candidates many years ago
when he was only thirteen years old. Ly and now Messi signed a napkin,
and now it sold for a milliondollars. Almost there was an agreement
(12:52):
made in principle with Barcelona on anapkin, and now that napkin, it's
like the Magna carta, it's wortha million dollars? Was that that was
a Picasso story? Right? Heused to doodle on restaurant napkins and he
threw one away and the server wentand pulled it out, and he like
(13:16):
freaked out a little bit. He'slike, what are you doing. He's
like, oh, I just Inoticed you drew that doodle and I wanted
to keep it. He's like,it's not for you. He insisted he
put it back on the track. It's like, well, yeah, but
it's a Picasso. Come on,man, come me some slack here.
Yes, there's a few things overthe years that had been drawn on napkins.
The Walt Disney Concert Hall by Gearyat the Pacific Dining Car was a
famous one. While that was stillopen, they had it on the menu
(13:39):
because he wrote it on a napkin. Yes, Kate's imagine if Adam Austen
was there when Picasso had the napkin, or our good soccer friend here had
our good soccer friend, Lionel Messihad his contract, our friend written down.
I heard your boys dying and AdamAustin's tearing them up, ripping it
up put him in a pile. No, Yeah, wouldn't be good to
(14:01):
be around somebody with an obsessive, compulsive behaving disorder for ripping up napkins or
clean xboxes. If you're gonna writevery very expensive, poignant things or art
on that as a canvas, absolutelyright, Kate, That's a great point.
And we'll be back with Dino Ebelwith a big announcement about the Dodgers
in the Inlet Empire tomorrow, somehigh school baseball love and overall Dodger talk.
(14:24):
Third base coach Dino Eble joins usnexttro some money hay M five seventy
LA Sports Live Everywhere on the iHeartRadioapp. We have got Dodgers red second
of four games after getting shut outlast night. It is still your home
of Shohey Otani and the Dodgers. And remember Monday a chance for you to
win that luxury trip. Yes,live in the Lap of Luxury at Fontainebleau
(14:48):
in Las Vegas, a new luxuryresort on the Las Vegas Strip. The
two nights day is what we're givingaway, not to mention, dining pool
side at the Oasis Pool Deck, and two tickets to a show at Blue
Live Theater that'll be every day nextweek, Monday through Friday, and the
week after starting on Monday. Allright, Matt joining us right now.
One of our favorite people to see. One of the great professional coaches out
(15:11):
there in all of Pro baseball,Dodgers third base coach, a wonderful source
of energy, inspiration and knowledge forthe team, the great Dino Ebel,
an absolute pillar of the community, especially in the Inland Empire. He'll be
at Blair Park and San Bridu DodgersFoundation tomorrow will be proudly unveiling Dodgers' dream
(15:37):
fields sixty one, sixty two,and sixty three and they have a goal
of completing seventy five fields across southernCalifornia by twenty thirty three to commemorate the
seventy fifth anniversary of the Dodgers moveto our city. Dodgers are in first
place in the nl WES. Hissons are playing for a title on the
(15:58):
Southern californ On your Toyota Celebrity Hotline, It's time to talk to the great
third base coach. We see themout there running drills early with everybody,
the great Dino Evil. Thank you, Dino. How are you? Oh
Dom great? Thanks for having meon. I appreciate doing this for I
love talking baseball. Well, firstand foremost talk about what the Dodgers are
doing building these fields and how muchit means to be able to represent the
(16:21):
community in the Inlet Empire. Oh, it's a special day for me because
I've born and raised in Barstow,as you know, and then I went
to school at Sammer Nadino Valley fortwo years. I know we're exactly you
know. Blair Park is where theceremony is going to take place. Tomorrow.
Went there in the winter to breakground there for the Dodger organization,
(16:42):
and tomorrow's the big day. Earlyin the morning, I'm showing up and
no, there's going to be aton of people out there and putting together.
Like you said, three fields sixtyone, two and three, and
by the year twenty thirty three theyshould have seventy five completed. So it's
tremendous this honor for me to bea part of it, for the kids,
(17:03):
to keep them off the street, put them on the safe fields,
and let them play baseball and softballand have fun. And you know,
see some future stars coming out ofthe Inland Empire. Well you've seen a
lot over the years. You've seenthem come and go. Dino, and
you're part of the Dodger organization, and it was a huge boon when you
were able to come up from theAngels and become a Dodger. How different
(17:25):
is it representing the Dodgers. Howdifferent is it being part of that brand
here in southern California. It's abig difference. You know. I grew
up in the Dodger organization, signedin nineteen eighty eight as a minor league
creation, and played through the minorleagues as a player, became a coach,
manager through the system, and thenI left in you know, two
thousand and four was my last seasonin Double A, and then I went
(17:47):
to the Angels in five Triple Amanager and then thirteen years with the Angels.
But being a Dodger, and youknow the tradition, you know,
as an Angel, you know, being in the big leagues meant a lot
to me. I grew up andbeing a Dodger Angel fan, but like
Tommy, you would always say, once your Dodge are always a Dodger.
And being with Mike Soshi and thestaff, with rennick Key and Hatcher and
(18:08):
Alfredo Griffin, I mean I feltlike I never left the Dodgers. We
sociowed for me, made the Angelsthe Dodgers. But it means a lot
to come back, you know,Andrew Freeman and Brendan Gomes and Dave Roberts
giving me the opportunity to come backand coach there. So once a Dodger
are always a Dodger. In mymind, I've never heard that Sosha made
(18:30):
the Angels the Dodgers, and itmakes sense for those of us that grew
up watching Mike Sosha play cancer forthe Dodgers. We talked about it.
Your boys are nationally recognized baseball playersCorona High School Baseball. They take on
Harvard Westlake High School tomorrow night forthe D one Championship. Brady and Trey,
we know you're very proud, andGod knows we're proud to watch these
(18:53):
guys. What's it like, youknow, you deal with athletes on every
level. What's it like being adad with your kids playing at a high
level and and want them to win? You know, I know you want
to win. Yeah, absolutely,it's exciting for me. And uh,
you know again it's uh, Ilook at him as you know, they're
they're in high school. This willbe Brady's second, uh chance to win
(19:15):
a ring. He won one, adn't want to high school his freshman year.
And then it's this is the firstfirst chance for Tray. But uh,
I'm excited. You know. Theytold me the games on Valley Sports
tomorrow night. But we're in We'rein action here at Dodger Stadium, and
I'm sure the guys that are notin the game, or some pitchers that
are, you know, have theday off, will be giving me some
updates. But we'll catch the tailend of the game. I know my
(19:37):
family and friends will all be thereto be the support, and then my
wife will be sending videos off thereat that so I always get updates on
the phone when the when the game'sover. So yeah, I'm excited.
And w's the team both teams HarborWestlake and Corona Dust of Luck tomorrow night
and hopefully Corona comes on top.O G. Dodger and a great man.
Dono Ebel, Dodgers third base coachus right now, tomorrow he'll be
(20:00):
out at Blair Park and San Bernardinowith the Dodger Dream Fields opening and they
will be honoring that. And it'salways great to catch up with Dino.
You mentioned your time with the Angels, and I know you crossed over with
Sho hail Tani there and now he'swith the Dodgers. How different of a
guy is he now as opposed tohow he was then? And I guess
(20:21):
even more of a news item. How hard was it to get to work
last night with all those crazy bobbleheadpeople. Yeah, it was a fun
night, you know show Hey,you know it's babblehead night here at Dodger
Stadium. But yeah, being withthe Angels in eighteen when we signed him
there, you know he was hewas a rookie. We knew all about
(20:41):
him. He's a star in Japan. I think just getting the experience that
he's had now at six years inthe major leagues, and you know this
guy was going to be a star. He is a star in my work
in my mind, the best playerin baseball. And you know, now
coming back to you know, he'ssigned with us this year and he's just
bigger, stronger, he's more experience, he knows the league, and you
(21:03):
know he's out here throwing now.So it's a it's a good thing when
this when he's healthy for next yearand he's on the mound throwing, you
get that picture hitter combo going. But what a special athlete to just to
watch his routine. You know, you mentioned my boys when he when they're
here, I tell him watch, watch what he does, and just follow
him around and see what he does. And it's incredible what he puts his
body through and how he preps fora game, just like all our other
(21:26):
guys here. But yeah, exciting, exciting today. When I got to
the park, you know, hewas already here. You know, they
gave him the key to the cityand just all smile. So he's out
here getting his work done and he'llbe ready to go tonight. You know,
every once in a while when we'reout at Dodger Stadium, we get
started early. And I think itreally helped me with perspective on professional levels
(21:48):
of baseball, where you really seethe day of work that goes into the
night that is the game. You'reout there four hours early, do an
infield drill with these guys and puttingin just extra and extra work. How
important is that for professionals to keepthat up in their daily lives, to
stay sharp in this game, becauseit really is astounding to watch you guys
(22:11):
do it every single day, justkind of grinding it out. Yeah,
yeah, it's it's special. Wehave a special group here and uh,
you know, having Mooky playing shortstopwhere he was thrown into the fire like
ten days before we headed over toSoul, Korea, so he's out here
getting as much work as he canand Gavin Lux now back in the line
of playing second base. But youknow, these guys are are the elite,
(22:36):
want to stay elite. They arethe things I've learned in my in
my past here as a as acoach in the major leagues is you know,
there's you know, they these guysdon't take days off, and you
know their mindset is so powerful andyou know they're it's almost I call it
obsessed. Uh, these guys wantto get better and better every day.
And we took we took pride inour defense. In spring training, we
got together all in the in themorning and they camel back and we said
(23:00):
we're all in. The guy saidgreed. Everybody was all in. And
so far, these guys, likeyou said, they come out out every
day, they get their work in. We did just a lot of life
fungo game situations, clock on,fast runner, slow runner, average runner.
Put them in situations ninth inning, seventh inning, first and third,
all the situations you can think of. And that's our daily routine. So
(23:22):
I feel it's helping, They feelit's helping them, and we're just going
to continue to work. Can youput perspective for our listeners on what Mookie
Betts is doing at his age inhis career playing shortstop at the level he's
kind of turned it around into thelast few months. Incredible. I mean,
I've never seen it. I've neverseen a guy who came up as
(23:44):
an infielder in the Boston Red Soxorganization. They had a guy over there
at second base in the big leagues, Dustin Virgoria, So they said,
hey, we're going to stick youin the outfield. He became a go
glove. He just now he youknow, he signs with the Dodgers.
He plays the outfield. He wantsto play second, We put him at
second. Hey, you want toplay short, Yes, put him at
short. He goes to second toright, to short to second. And
(24:06):
now you know, in spring traininghe was you know, he was all
in at second base, and thenten days into it they put him over
at short. And you know,a lot of credit goes to Miguel Rojas's
he's by his side. It's nobetter coach for me in the big leagues
when player to player relationship and aguy that's elite short stopped teaching Milkie Bets.
So I stay out of the way. I listen. You know,
(24:26):
I'm there to watch and see what'sgoing on. But it's this guy,
Mookie Bets. I've never seen itbefore. A guy who can play shortstopped
and learning at the major league level. And he's been doing a tremendous job.
I told him last night. Youknow there's gonna be mistakes in the
game. Just turn the page. We'll get better. Come out tomorrow,
we'll get better. The great Baronof Barstow, Dino Evil is our guest.
(24:49):
We're always pleased to have him lastthing for you, Dino, and
thank you so much, and havefun out there tomorrow at Blair Park and
San Bernardino with the Dodger dream Fields. Gavin Lux seen him overcome a lot
since the spring. How satisfying isit to watch a guy overcome injury and
then get comfortable out there again andand kind of prove the doubt is wrong.
(25:11):
Absolutely, And he's in a good, good mind frame right now.
He's playing tremendous defense. He's solid. You know, his bat's going to
come around. That's his tools asbad and he's starting to make solid contact.
You can see the confidence. Now. He's got robbed of a couple
of hits last night, but thisguy's gonna hit because he's going to continue
to play above average at second base. You know, he's as you know,
(25:36):
he's a shortstop and he's working veryhard to get back to where he
was before the injury last year.So he's not there mentally. I feel
still he needs to get over themental, mental part of it, which
he's almost there, but it's goingto take time. This guy's set out
the whole year with that knee, and every game he's getting better. So
(25:56):
I couldn't be more happier than whathe's been doing on the defensive end running
the bases. And I know thatbat will come when we need it,
needs to get on base, sowe can score about a one hundred and
twenty runs with him hitting there atthe bottom of the order. Well,
God bless you, Dino. Goodluck tomorrow, and good luck to to
Trey and Brady and the Corona HighSchool baseball team taking on Harvard Westlake.
(26:18):
Have fun at Blair Park, andgood luck tonight with the boys and Blue
in your wonderful job as third basecoach. Thank you so much for doing
it, and we always appreciate yourinsight. Oh, thank you for having
me on thenkin all right, andin honor of the great Dino Ebel,
a Dodger for life, even whenhe was with the Angels, because so
she made the Angels the Dodgers.Colin number twelve gets the tickets from Monday

about the very last one, whichi'll mention here in a moment. And
I don't know if Weiss Mueler wasin there or if it was just Marino
Sullivan that was in it as Jane. But she was nineteen and it's one
of those Hollywood stories. She wasnoticed on the street by Frank Borzage,
(29:40):
who was filming Song of My Hearton location for twentieth Century Fox in Ireland,
and he said, you got alook that I like. You should
take a screen test, so shedid. He said he wanted to cast
her in the film, but theywouldn't be shooting it till they got back
to Hollywood. So they sailed tothe Big Town in twenty nine on the
RMS Baltic, make their way acrossthe States and arrived to Hollywood in time
(30:06):
to be part of that particular production. Twentieth Century Fox signs her to a
six picture deal. She's in highdemand. At the end of that,
a bidding war MGM scoops her up, and then Irving Thalberg chooses her to
play Jane in The Tarzan and theape Man, and she would go on
to Stars Jane in five subsequent filmsover the nineteen thirty two to nineteen forty

(31:22):
to review nineteen forty two, notto be confused with nineteen thirty nine,
Tarzan finds a Sun. She askedto be released from her contract to care
for her husband, John Farrow, who was just released from the Navy with
typhoid. Spent out a bunch ofkids, John would win a couple Oscars.
She'd appear on screen occasionally after that, but again retreated after their oldest

she took to the stage, Nevertoo Late on Broadway, was critically acclaimed,
and then John died from a heartattack. She would star as the

u g h a n. Hewould he is. He's still alive though
he stroked out. Uh. He'sseventy six today. Oh Pleasant, the
folk song protest star of Scotland, raised mostly mostly in Leith, the port
in the outskirts of Edinburgh. Poorbut a musical family and a strong community
(33:58):
in Leith. Takes a village toraise a protest folks singer. As you
know, that's what they say,it's the old scene. His first album
was recorded in nineteen seventy one whenhe was twenty three, mostly traditional but
not all. He left his firstgroup, the Boys of Low, because
they had too much commerciality in mindMatt. They wanted to make money.
(34:21):
He told them he was afraid offlying and they could go off and do
whatever. Other Scottish bands he wasin the high Level Ranters, Rolls Off
the Tongue and five hand Reel.Around that time, though, his daughter
was knocked down by a car andinjured, and it created a crisis in
his life, and so in theearly eighties he stopped performing. Life's excesses
(34:45):
caught up with him. A littlebit even happens to the protest singers,
but he came back. Nineteen eightyone was his breakthrough, the Handful of
Earth album. He shocked to know, Matt that this man is a gigantic
socialist protest singer. Gigantic socialist? Is that right? Very a comedy and
(35:07):
he was deeply galvanized by the MargaretThatcher government in the UK. The comedies
like it when you push them around, it helps their cause. They want
you to really push them around. The more you push them around it helps
their caught. And he felt thatway about Maggie Thatcher. He talked about
miners, miners rights, the ColdWar, Nicaragua, you name it.
(35:31):
He is seen as the Scottish WoodyGuthrie or Pete Seeger. He's pumped out
albums with people and solo. Butas I said, he had a stroke
about eight years back stroke and hestopped performing. But I think he's back
to performing a little bit. Dickor Richard Gauhun And you know Kates loves
