The good life is one inspired bylove and guided by knowledge. Oh Vic
Petro, send money, AM fiveseventy LA Sports. We are live everywhere.
I Heeart radio app. Gong hasgone missing. They broke a little
early. Yeah, all right,we'll say, starting a little early.
There's our gong. Thank you,Tim Katie, as we make our way
(00:21):
to the Galpin Motors broadcast booth atfour pm for Dodgers Yankees Baseball. Very
exciting weekend here in your home ofthe Dodgers, your home of Mookie Bets,
sho Hel Tani. Tonight, Yamamotoand the Dodgers with that first pitch
at four pm. Dodgers on deckat three pm. David Besse will join
us live from Yankee Stadium in aboutan hour and a half as we are
(00:42):
on another short show on a superflex p We will have those two things,
those two things in either hour respectively. One the first thing, Dan
Hurley talk, who was referred toearlier on KFI as Stan Hurley. I
think that's that they stand him sohard, you know, like the youth
(01:03):
says, they stand him. Theylove his Riz, so they stand him
so hard, his Riz, hisRiz. The kids, that's what the
kids say, I believe it Riz, I know what the stand is like
the M and M. What's theriz? The RIZ, I believe is
short for Charizma. Okay, theylike his Riz, so that's why they
(01:25):
stand Dan Hurley. So we havethat this hour with Don McClain and of
course our bff talking hoops, andthen next hour we have David Vassy live
from Yankee Stadium, because that ispopping off. The baseball world does not
(01:45):
wake up very often as a wholein the month of June, but it's
up and eyes are wide open andstaring at Gotham because the Dodgers versus Yankees
is a big deal, and Vassawill have that. He's got Bookie bats
on Marongo Casino Dodgers on deck withTim Kaits. So it's been a weird
(02:07):
week. There's been a lot offlexes all except for Monday when we were
out at the Chargers Tournament, whichwas a fun, flourish of a show.
But the rest of the week hasbeen cut short. Luckily, Matt,
we make up for it next weekwith a relatively full schedule and a
great remote first stop. It isa week from today. We are now
(02:30):
inside a week, so we'll havea full show on Monday, Dodgers will
be off after traveling east, andthen we'll have all three to six shows,
including June fourteenth, Rock and BruiseBuena Park. Can't say it enough.
Set your schedules, give your employera week's head up that you need
to get out of work early tobe there between three and six pm right
(02:51):
off the ninety one freeway at BeachBoulevard. We will have on site prizes
and we will be looking for ourfirst finalists this year. We are getting
our eleventh year. We are givingaway eleven thousand dollars. So be our
first finalist and get yourself a onein eleven shot at eleven grand. How's
(03:12):
the thing coming together here? Yeah? What do we got? Looking good?
We got petros and money. Yeah, we'll be there. I assume
we'll have our dear friends Jennet,Katie and Adam from Mock and Bruce there.
Well, I hope so. Orthen maybe we'll show up at a
Rock and Bruce at a later date. Indeed, James might be a little
(03:35):
far for them before. I havenot gone confirmation on sweet James. Okay,
very very busy man, airbrush guy. Sure, working and efforting the
airbrush guy. I know that iskind of far down the field here,
so that's looking good. We mightpunsch that in for a touchdown. But
knock, we're on the one. We're on there. We're like a third
and goal and we got our heavypackage in right now. All right,
(03:58):
we're about to push. We're aboutto push right through extra tight end with
actually an offensive lineman. So dothey have linebackers that are jumpers or they
can They're in, they're in thefour point stance, ready to go.
Try to come down. Let thelinebackers come over the top. And I'm
a shortyarded specialist and I really wantthe air batch guy. That's awesome.
H That being said, the djDJ will be there and DJ will be
(04:20):
playing just the dj' is just oneof our promotions. Guys, headphones.
Think it might be DJ Santana, who we all like, it's not true,
not true, not true, andplaying rock and Bruce style music.
But whatever you guys want as faras request, so, so an in
house DJ who's not really a DJ. Oh he really is a DJ.
(04:41):
Oh he is Okay, yeah,he's a real DJ. So he is
like a wedding DJ. Yeah,it does, like pro What else?
What else do we got? Wegot great sports talk eleven thousands, we
got a we got a lot offishing poles out there right now. I
don't like that we're empty as apocket. Line lines in the water.
We can sit in a we cansit in a boat for six hours and
(05:02):
get nothing. So lines in thewater mean little. Yeah, I know
that for sure. Do we knowany prizes yet that we're giving away a
lot of TV Westonhouse TV to giveaway? Okay, okay, I have
it on good authority that would probablyhave not to Berry Farm tickets to give
away there we do see. Whatabout a cowboy? What about a cowboy
or a covered wagon that that's likethird and forty five right now? Well,
(05:27):
we got all our wide receivers linedup. Everybody that's actings out there
right now. Yeah, and we'reno running back, no running What about
a guy that operates the booth ina referee styled shirt that has all those
green water jugs and you throw thelittle red plastic rings trying to get it
around one of those things. Isthat guy gonna come? Yeah, right
by the accelerator, Guy, rightby the accelerator. The carnival games.
(05:49):
Guy, I could go on arecon mission to not to Berry Farm in
the next week here and try torecruit some people over. Maybe pay Franklin
over at Camp Snoopy. Well, they won't miss him. Pay him the
hundred bucks to come over with hisbig head. Okay, these are all
great ideas. I appreciate it.Appreciate appreciate them a week in advance.
(06:10):
At least it's not forty eight hours. I feel like least this is like
two weeks in advance though, thatthese ideas, these seeds were planted,
maybe even three. It's time forFrogman Friday to be celebrated. Ocean Air
(06:30):
Salty Hair Petersen Money Show celebrates thesea every Friday in the form of Frogman
Friday, celebrating the ocean, probablythe Pacific, and those that protect us
from it. We also celebrate oneof the great television shows ever made,
starring the one and only Lloyd Bridgesas an undersea mercenary former Navy frogman,
(07:00):
and that man would be Mike Nelsonin one of the greatest shows ever produced,
Sea Hu and I saw a cavenearby and the music seemed to be
coming from it As I swam towardthe cave. The music grew louder.
Suddenly some powerful force pushed me towardthe rocks like a giant hand. I
(07:21):
was being sucked into the cave.I held on with all my might to
the ledge above the opening, andfinally squeezed over it to safety. But
I've been knocked around like a leaf. Yeah you have. Let's talk to
(07:43):
Bill Plash. He wants he stands. Dan Hurley, what are you nuts?
We're still gonna take that to Florida. You know what that's like these
days? You got the f andNavy everywhere. You got Frogman man,
you got EC two's with a liketracking, you got the effinge bell two
to nine assault choppers out the asswell losing one out of every nine loans.
(08:09):
That's no duck walk anymore. MEtell you forget about the money.
What do you suggest that is reasonable? I guess we're not gonna play Deeta
rule. I mean, Dieter's beenso kind to the show, and even
though the Dodgers are in New York, I think the organ is still very
viable and a very powerful tool.We went on Dan Patrick, you know,
(08:39):
but you know that man, becauseof the fire thinger because of the
fire thing. Yeah, that wedidn't start the fire that went viral,
the brilliant billy Joe pull or thesmoke in the background, yas. Yeah,
so I just uh wait, comeon, man, it's not your
(09:00):
Jake. Oh you know you knowyour lawyer Dolier do Doyers. Oh your
dollar dog Doller. No you no, you do ye yeah Doliers Dolier's Doyers
do. Take you into those mailbombs heads and put the flag up with
(09:24):
your shot. Yeah you I'm amoto on the mound. Yeah. And
a tip of the cap to theYankees appropriate you do deader rule today.
I just looked it up. Heand ed Allstrom has been the Yankee organist
for over twenty years. Yes,he's close friends with Deeter. There we
go. So it works today,it works every day because the organ is
(09:46):
the greatest. It should be usedat all times everywhere. We should hire
an organist everywhere, follow us throughoutlife like a hockey uh organ grinder up
in Canada in a minor league game. I guess you technically could you could
haven't played the accordion. Everybody followyou around. Everybody's life should be like
that. All right, speaking ofsomething very important, Stan Hurley, who
(10:11):
said, Stan, it wasn aKFI update. I am very excited about
this story because it's gonna happen overthe weekend, and no one we can't
get caught with our parents down likewe have in other situations with a late
higher. They try to float thesethings on a Friday. If the Lakers
(10:33):
got Stan Hurley, or if theygot Dan Hurley to stand them, then
they're not gonna announce it on aFriday afternoon. Everybody's watching Dodgers Yankees,
hell No Matt Well, NBA Finals, Dodgers, Yankees, Lakers are gonna
want to capitalize in this. Ithink the most important thing for Stan Riz
(10:54):
Hurley is you using riz. He'sgot riz. Stan Hurley's got some Riz,
according to the kids. As yousaid, I think you need to
use the power of the text though, so like you used it when Mike
Brown was hired to figure out whereDan and Andrea are going to be,
so you and your Greek family,Because by all accounts I was, I
(11:18):
was perusing the internet. I wasdoing a deep dive in all the Hartford
rags and all the Long Islands ofYork and Jersey rags, Yes, freaking
out on the East Coast that they'regoing to lose their guy. Yeah,
Jersey's royal couple. Andrea is thather name? Andrea? Andrea or Andrea
I'm guessing. I mean, what'smore likely if she's Greek Andrea or Andrea
(11:41):
and Okay, so Andrea, wegot to get the Greek out. That
doesn't mean she says it like that, but maybe she does. It is
interesting. Where would Genie Buss takethem? I would not advise, No,
it's a pretty good restaurant. Iwould not advise you take them to
Petros, which is Greek restaurant inManhattan Beach, adjacent to where Jeanie lives,
(12:03):
because it's not going to impress theHurleys. They have superior Greek food
in Connecticut and New York and upand down the Eastern Seaboard, not to
mention Chicago, Detroit, Kansas City, Tarbin Springs, Florida. Ever since
the papaac is Taverna close. Well, I guess you got the place in
Beverly Hills in a couple places inthe Bay Area, but those aren't Petros.
(12:26):
Take them off to Taverna. Tony's. They got great Greek food.
I mean, okay, they're gonnabe I mean, you're gonna be in
traffic on PCA. Do you reallywant to show Herley that? Is that
still open? An only still open? Yeah? Yeah, it's still there.
Vassa goes there from time to timebecause his in laws are from Malibu,
right, uh? I. Idon't know. She'll take them somewhere
(12:48):
in the South May. Maybe she'lltake them to that private Manhattan beach club
where you have to pay to bein the club, so maybe that would
afford more privacy. Maybe she'll taketo rock and fish, which was cool
like twenty years ago. Maybe she'lltake him to fishing with dynamite exciting,
(13:09):
right, it very exciting. Idon't know. She'll take them to sharks.
Is it still there in al Porto? I think she's got it to
come down to hermosa. It's gone. You have to come down to hermosa
to go to darkness. I don'tknow. I it the more I think
about it, and just the morepeople bring up this point and counterpoint and
(13:31):
all that, and Jane, youignorant slut it, it seems like this
wouldn't be that great of an ideafor him. It feels like, why
would you, Like, this isthe only job where you're not going to
be able to build your own rosterand do your own thing and create your
own program. You have a guywho thinks that he's the GM and an
(13:54):
athlete and a coach rolling his eyesall the time. I mean, you
have you have this elephant in theroom, this broken roster with Lebron likely
his son ad. It just feelslike, why would you set yourself up
for this kind of failure when you'veseen everybody else go through the same thing.
(14:15):
Why would it be any different ifLebron is there? He's the elephant
in the room. I think it's, you know, kind of what he
said as everyone is aggregating previous interviewsto try to figure out what his psyche
is, where he has mentioned hewants to coach in the NBA, that
he wants to coach at the highestlevel at some point in his career.
That you know, people describe himas in every day you know, just
(14:37):
kind of normal, average guy,and that's kind of why he endears himself
to his players. You're an everyday, normal average guy, Matt, who's
being celebrated in your hometown as wespeak, would if you were that really
accomplished guy and everywhere you go theythrow prom fronds on the street. Do
(14:58):
you really want to go face toface with old head Lebron and deal with
that issue a bonafide coach killer.I mean, I'm just I'm I'm asking
this question. I think I doif the numbers are right, if it
really is one hundred million dollars overeight seven or eight years. And and
(15:18):
as Dan Hurley has described, youknow, I can be an arrogant a
hole and you have that that arrogancein you that says, well, whatever,
dude, I got eight years.I'm here longer than you are,
so you better get on the programbecause they're not cutting me loose anytime soon,
not paying me fifteen million bucks ayear. What about what somebody like
(15:39):
Colin Cowherd is suggesting, you're anEast Coast guy, the next job is
going to be open and you'll takethat, Yeah, whenever it is,
or the Brooklyn job or something likethat. It maybe he takes the job,
maybe he doesn't. It is veryinteresting because I don't think of Lebron
being there as a bonus to getthis, to be the coach. I
(16:02):
don't know. Maybe maybe I'm justmaybe I don't have the drive to be
the best if I'm Stan Hurley orif I'm putting myself in his shoes,
But it just doesn't I mean, you're gonna meet with Jeanie and you're gonna
say, Okay, who's in charge? What's going on? And there's just
gonna have to be so many guaranteesto get him, like with the Harbaugh
(16:25):
thing you were talking about yesterday, and how does that work with Lebron?
Does that how does any of thatwork with clutch sports in the building?
I think is the big question. And that's got to be the question that
he's gonna ask as well when theymeet at mb post tonight. The again,
the Harball parallel is so perfect becausewhat were a lot of people saying
(16:48):
in the Midwest, They're like,he's not gonna leave, you know,
Jack and Jackie, his parents cometo all the games. They're Midwest.
That's a Midwest family, his sisterand Tom Creener. In the Midwest,
they are way too strong and tootight of a group, and Michigan's going
to counter They want to keep himthere and ultimately, because he's the type
of competitor that he is. Youknow, Jim just said, no,
(17:11):
I need to get back to theNFL. That's what I want to do.
And I think that's what it willprobably be down to your Dan Hurley.
Like, there's always extenuating circumstances. There was somebody in that administration President
or AD, I think it wasthe AD, just like it was with
York, the York family and thatBalky guy or whatever his name was,
Balky At there was somebody that hewanted to stick it to on the way
(17:33):
out, and and so that's whathappened there. I mean, these are
all very individual situations and we're alljust trying to read the tea leaves and
in whatever, I'd love for DanHurley to get the job too. I'm
not going to try to speak itinto existence because it feels as if there's
a lot there that would make itnot desirable. I mean, I like,
(17:56):
yeah, considering the conversation we've beenhaving for the last six years,
I mean, that stuff doesn't happenin a vacuum. It just doesn't.
And right, one hundred million dollarsis one hundred million dollars and all that,
and that's what makes it so interesting. You think Genie's gonna pitch him,
Like could Jeanie pitch somebody? Polenka, Rich Paul, like, what
(18:17):
are we doing? How does thiswork? Where's it going to be?
I think it's you know, Iknow, I know, I keep going
back to the same thing, butI just I feel like the parallel once
they got too far down the roadand everybody was on that, Hey,
this Spanos family has to do this. They have to they will know what
you cannot settle for anything less withthe plash key, with Magic Johnson,
(18:41):
with the national media with it justfeels like everybody has looked at the Lakers
and said, wow, way togo. You better make this happen.
Well, that's why they're doing this, right, That's how this came out.
So well, you give him everythinghe wants. Well what happens if
you say, what do you want? Give him everything you want? And
then your bat phone rings and it'sPaul and Lebron and they say, you
can't give him that. You gaveus that remember our deal? Right,
(19:03):
And I don't know. I mean, that's it just feels like there's it
feels like coming back to me isagainst all odds and that's a price I
have to win. Who do youthink is more valuable to the Lakers?
I won't even say two years fornot just next year. Do you think
people are more excited about Lebron optinginto his fifty one million dollar deal signing
(19:25):
a three year extension or they announcedtomorrow that they have ink Dan Hurley for
the next eight years, Like,I don't. It's content it sounds honest.
Answer. I'm too blinded. I'mtoo blinded by hatred and resentment toward
Lebron to answer that honestly. ButI think they have a whole star thing,
and you know they do this fortheir stars, and they did it
(19:45):
for Kobe and all that. Butbecause you still have Anthony Davis, who
played the most games he has andhad an all NBA level season last year,
we know how great Hurley is withbig men and what he's done with
klinging, and so like you couldsell it like, hey, sorry,
Rich, we don't care. Thisis the guy we're hiring. And if
(20:07):
you want to opt out of yourfifty one million bucks, no worries.
We got three first round picks, and Donovan Mitchell and Trey Young are available
on the market. I will goget them. And Reese like to me,
I think they've got to find theirballs, like Sarah Silverman, That's
what I said. They kind offind their ball, like I don't know
(20:27):
if they have them there, Matt, when you've been nailed by the king
for so long, he becomes submissive. Think about how good it would feel,
though, after getting nailed by himfor these last six years for everything,
if none of it's his fault,it's all and then all of a
sudden you put Hurley out there andit takes the NBA world by storm,
(20:48):
and the King storms off and offright, and you're like, it feels
pretty good. It would be,uh, just pretty good. He would
be treated like a messiah in thisspace. But again, I have my
doubts as to the schneebliness of Geniebuzz. Yeah. I mean I read
something today that said this is CoachK's thing that like it said, even
(21:10):
though he has the relationship with Reddick, that Coach K has sort of been
a middleman in all of this, well but arly in the Lakers, as
they hired him to be a consultantto try to find someone if they make
the deal, then he earned themoney uh Don McClain, who's got a
much much more nuanced perspective into thisvery interesting story, will join us next
(21:33):
a M five seventy LA Sports Liveeverywhere on the iHeartRadio app. We're going
toward Dodger Yankees. A lot ofexcitement in the big town, a little
bit of an injury scare with JuanSoto, but Aaron Judge yea, I'm
amoto on the mound for the Dodgers. Going to be a great night of
Dodger baseball. You'll hear it righthere on your home of the Dodgers AM
five seventy LA Sports. It's asuper flex for us as we're off at
three for Dodgers on deck. Thatfirst pitch comes at four pm. That's
(21:56):
right, and David Vassay has gotMooky on the pregame show, so stay
tuned for that. And we havea big show coming up in playing A
Park a week from today, startingat three o'clock, The Petrosen Money Show
will be live at Rock and Brucein Playna Park for our eleventh Petrosen Money
(22:17):
Summer Tour Grand Prize this year eleventhousand dollars and we're giving away a Westinghouse
TV and many other things including Knotspasses. Apparently we've gotten a hold of
Knots. It's a good reason,yeah, And it's also been a good
development that we've gotten a hold ofDon McLain, our BFF, our number
one guy here to discuss the NBAFinals and even more importantly to the West
(22:41):
Coast types, this whole Dan Hurleyleakage and Laker impending offer. He's the
leading scorer in the history of thePac twelve Illuminarian basketball worlds around the Draft
CAA. The next ass he kisseswill be the first that he joins us
(23:07):
on the Southern California Toyo to doa celebrity hotline. His statue at eleven
Partner looms large like him. It'sDon McClain. Hi, Don, Hey,
guys, sorry for the delay bygoing on to day, but happy
to be here. We're happy tohave you, Don. And there is
a lot going on, at leastas far as this big coaching thing goes.
(23:27):
Were you surprised that this whole JJreddick thing JJ Reddick, JJ reddick
for weeks and weeks and all ofa sudden here comes Dan Hurley out of
nowhere? How likely is this tohappen, you think, I think it's
going to happen. And you're rightthough in saying that, because I thought
that, Reddick, the reason theyhadn't made an announcement is they needed him
to finish doing his ESPN ABC stuffto make the announcement, and so I
(23:52):
guess that wasn't true. And herecomes Dan Hurley, and you know,
look, he's had a lot ofsuccess at the college level, the high
school level, the small college level, and so I get the interest.
The interesting part to me in allthis is who Dan Hurley is in terms
of his demeanor, in his approach, and is that going to work at
the next level. That's what itcomes down to, because there's been examples
(24:15):
throughout the years of coaches that arefiery, intense like Dan Hurley. Rick
Patino comes to mind, John Caliparicomes to mind. Where it just didn't
translate to the NBA level because it'sa longer season, these guys are older.
And the reason it doesn't work isthis. And I've thought about this
a lot, because look, RickPatino and John Caliperry are tremendous coaches,
(24:40):
So why doesn't it work at theNBA level. Well, when you have
college players who are trying to getto the next level, they will be
coach. However, they need tobe coached to get to the next level.
But when you've already made it tothe next level and made millions and
are making millions, you don't wantto be coach like that. So it's
going to be fascinating to see ifthey do hire Dan Hurley and how his
(25:02):
demeanor in approach changes, because whatwe've seen from him at Yukon, I
can almost guarantee that ain't gonna flyat the NBA level. Hey, talking
about all the technicals, the history, onics on the sideline, don what
about him? Just the way yousee his teams play the coach. I
know it's different, it's a differentgame, but just how dominant. Why
(25:25):
has Yukon been so dominating these lasttwo seasons, specifically in their conference,
in in NCAA tournaments, well identifyingtalent and look, a lot of coaches
just recruit the rankings. I don'tthink Hurley does. I think he actually
goes and scouts and watches and recruitsplayers to the system, not just whoever
the best players are. He's donereally well in the portal in attracting guys
(25:48):
that have already started their college careerand getting them the stores to play for
him. But I think offensively iswhat everyone points to. It's like a
pro style offense. There's a lotof freedom there. They shoot a lot
of threes, and you know, that's what everyone's pointing to, is that
that that could translate to the nextlevel. How he talks about offense,
how his teams execute offense. Andso I think that's the big attraction,
(26:11):
is that this college coach has hadall the success, could bring the system
that he has to the next levelin the NBA. And well, and
we'll see if it does happen. If that's the case, you know,
he again, I go back tothe history, onics and all that stuff
(26:32):
everyone's talking about is one thing, but it's more about how you're coaching players
in practice, How are you coachingthem in the game, How are you
with them in the locker room? And guys, it just doesn't fly the
getting in their face and screaming athim and all that stuff. But I
do think Dan Hurley, because he'shad so much success, it's smart enough
to understand that. And so ifhe does get the job again, it'll
(26:57):
be interesting to see how much hisapproach and it's not like if he's going
to coach in the NBA, he'sgoing to a situation where there's a bunch
of young guys and they're all firing, and he's going to build a program
like he built a program in allthese other places, and of course had
a lot of success at Yukon wherethey've had success before. This is Lebron
(27:21):
James's team and you know most ofus feel like Lebron James makes most of
these decisions. Anyway, how doesthat match? Well, we'll find out.
And that's what's interesting, And youjust said it, Pee, And
that's one thing I forgot to saywhen I first came on is his player
development. I had Jordan Hawkins, who as a freshman I think average three
or four points a game, andtwo years later or a year later,
(27:42):
he was the fourteenth pick in thedraft. And so their player development is
very well respected. But he's comingto a veteran team that's windows closing,
that needs to win now, andso part of the attraction and getting Dan
Hurley is because of how well he'sdeveloped players at Yukon. Well that's not
really the case. So My senseis that this is a can you figure
(28:06):
it out, get on the samepage with Lebron and try and win now,
But this is a longer term thingthat they hope he's there for ten,
twelve, fifteen years and maybe theystrip it down rebuild after Lebron's done
and that player development and all thestuff we're talking about becomes more impactful.
Yeah, it's kind of seems tobe what the leak, you know,
(28:26):
the news that's leaked is is thatthis could be a seven eight year deal
worth north of one hundred million dollarsthat they're going to try to hand him
in order to leave Yukon and theEast Coast behind Donna. In terms of
you know, just what you thinkfrom the camp. So we've heard really
three candidates. James Brego, whoyou know took Charlotte into the playoffs with
(28:47):
like a forty three I think inthirty nine record, Jj Reddick, who
has no coaching experience beyond youth basketballin the city of New York for his
son, and Dan Hurley. Now, which which one of those three do
you think you know bodes well forthe best success for the Lakers, you
know, next year and moving forward, well, That's the thing though.
Man to me, I look atit, it's like two separate things.
(29:08):
If you're going for the win now, I'm not sure who the best candidate
is. But if you are committedto once Lebron's done, or once Lebron
moves on to the long term successin future development of the Lakers, it's
got to be Dan Hurley. Andso that's the hard part in this.
It's like, I'm not saying DanHurley can't win now, but if I'm
(29:30):
hiring Dan Hurley, it's not reallyfor now, it's for the next you
know, seven, eight, tenyears. And so I guess if you
put a gun to my head andsaid you have to hire one of those
three right now, it probably wouldbe Hurley because I think he's smart enough
to get on the same page withLebron and ad and give themselves a chance
to win now. But if youdon't, you know, the downside is
(29:52):
you have him in place to developplayers in the long term success of the
Lakers. Is there you Just becausea lot of fingers are being pointed to
Anthony Davis, They're like, hey, we don't know if Lebron's here for
a year, for two years,it's really kind of trying to build around
these next four or five years ofAnthony Davis, and people point to Dan
Hurley in the way he coaches bigmen and what Klingon has become compared to
(30:15):
what he was when he arrived. Is there a certain thing about certain coaches
that just kind of know how todevelop big men, or use big men,
or or you know, make adjustmentsfor big men. Is there something
to that. I think there is, and I think understanding, but it's
always fitting. It's always highlighting aplayer that's good in their role. So
(30:36):
he looked at Donovan kling and said, look, you're this tall, you
move well, you're long. Thisis how we're going to use you.
You need to get good in thatrole. And when you do, we'll
have team success and you will getthe individual success. Cling it's going to
be at worse than the top tenpick this year. And so yeah,
I think there is certain coaches andcertain staffs that understand development to the system,
(30:57):
what we need you to do forus to be good and for you
to be good. But you justwonder, and I'm not saying it can't.
But Anthony Davis has been in theleague for a long time. Now
is he going to be willing toaccept coaching and player development at this stage
of his career? And if hedoes, you know, and he can
stay healthy, which has always beenthe biggest question with Anthony Davis, then
(31:18):
I think you're going to see away better Anthony Davis, because he'll as
good as he's been and as goodas he is in the league, you
could see his improvement if he doesimprove to the system, in the system
improves him. Don McClaine our guest. Very interesting stuff and compelling about the
Lakers potential hiring of Dan Hurley,at least the courtship which could be going
(31:45):
on right now as we speak atFat Face Better's Fish Shack and Hermosa beach
Don. You've been watching the NBAFinals last night When finally got started,
it was a dominant performance by theCeltics. Do you think it's going to
be that kind of series or doyou think the MAVs have some life in
(32:06):
them yet? I think the MAVswon a game, maybe too, But
Porzingis is the biggest factor. AndI'm not saying that just because he played
well. I knew him coming backwas going to be a big factor.
Now, I didn't think he'd gettwenty last night, but I just thought
his presence and how much you haveto count for him on both ends of
the floor would be a factor, and it turns out it was. And
I'm not sure everyone talked about makingadjustments game to game, but I was
(32:30):
thinking about it last night watching thegame, Like, what's the adjustment for
the MAVs, you know, ifthey're going to stay home because you got
the rim protector in prazingis now thatyou didn't have throughout the playoffs and you've
relied on Dodginson Irving to create mostof your offense. I'm not sure what
the adjustment is. So I'm notsaying it's not going to be, you
(32:52):
know, a decent series, butI'd be shocked if Boston doesn't win the
thing. Last thing, don youmentioned? You know, you've been busy,
busy day. You're getting ready forthe draft with just kind of poking
through that again today and you weren'tkidding. You always tell us and we
hear it here. First looks likeyour guy Reed Shepherd is solidly inside certainly
(33:13):
the top five, maybe even thetop three. Now he may be taught
he may be in play for thetop one, believe it or not.
And so you know, he's justgenerated momentum and teams that I've talked to
about him that they're just enamored withwith all the things he does. And
I told you the analytics things lastweek. I think that how his deep
(33:35):
analytics are off the charts, andthis league has become so analytics driven that
these teams are just salivating. Andso it's so interesting to me though,
because I've been doing this for solong that the eye test just isn't there.
I mean, you watch in thegym, You're like, who's this
kid? But he's got the potentialto be, you know, at worst
the top three pick. And soone thing he did do which you guys
(33:59):
will find in So I've been doingthis pre draft stuff for nineteen years and
we do this drill called twenty five. So it's it's simple. It's five
spots behind the NBA line in it'sfive shots per spot for a total of
twenty five. In nineteen years, nobody has ever gotten twenty five. There's
been seven or eight twenty fours.Last week he got twenty five for the
(34:22):
first time in nineteen years. Geez, I mean it go wasa is he
native at? That means a lot. But like I tell these guys,
because they always ask when they comein, like has anyone ever gotten twenty
five? I'm like, no,no one ever has, because if they
usually you miss one early and thenit's over. But if you get to
fifteen sixteen in a row, theyusually miss and so it doesn't mean anything.
(34:45):
But it says a lot that thiskid knew that he was at twenty
in a row and had five moreto make and had the sack to step
up and make the last five forthe first time ever. I know a
guy, but he uses the backpoint the great talker. There's nobody better
than down great stuff Don And we'llsee what happens over the weekend with Dan
(35:07):
Hurley. A very interesting situation witha lot of upside and some downside as
well. Thank you to have agood weekend, guys, you too out
there in the streets. We'll beright back with some reaction from the people.
Don't forget about David Veasse, Who'sgonna join us in the very next
(35:27):
segment after that or after the wordnumber song of the day in our I
guess it would be the two o'clockhour, Matt. Yes, our super
flex today go until three. Inreal life, we're not even supposed to
be here. No Dodgers, Yankees, Yamamoto on the mound, rumors abound,
the Petterson Money Show is right onit on a frog Man Friday,
(35:51):
Dodger, Yankees all weekend long hereand we have an event on Friday.
Matt, It's it quite a part. Aren't you excited about it? Matt?
Very much so, especially after TimKates played that banjo music at the
open of our show and talked aboutthe fact we'll have Knots tickets to give
(36:12):
away and a Westinghouse TV to giveaway. I mean that feels like Knots
knows where we exist. That's ahuge step and you're coming off the sideline
and it's not salt. Did weever find out who the account executive is
that holds the Knots account? Valentinehandles it himself like we saw bitch.
He hoards, he covets and hoardsit himself. He's no one. It's
(36:38):
going to be at Rock and BruceBlaine a park for a month. Who
is in charge of Knots? Ihave no idea, no clue. I
mean, David Howard listens to thisshow, Demac listens to this show.
Maybe doesn't. I'd like to thinksomebody over there, I mean, the
opponent listens to the show. Canhe not walk into the sales area and
(36:59):
just starts screaming, who's got knots? I wish you would, right,
Let's get the opponent on our side. Fire Market have fractured our relationship with
the opponent though? You do?Huh? I do? He said before
or after? He said we weren'teven there for his meeting, that we
sat right. Therefore, it was, unfortunately, to fracture occurred before that
(37:21):
put him in a precarious spot.Yeah you did. Yeah, don't stick
your hame in the fire. That'sright, you're good burned. All right,
Let's do some texts before I getso depressed that I'd fall into the
(37:43):
fine brought to you by your socalled Toyota dealers. We make it easy.
David Vassey will join us this verynext hour with all the latest from
New York City, the Concrete Junglewhere dreams are made of. There's nothing
you can't do, the chowder Bargein Wilmington. Keep it real with Hurley
h I maybe that would work.You know, he's a gritty Yukon guy.
(38:08):
Stores is a gritty town. Maybetake him down to the chowder barge.
Tell him there was a scene andinherent vice that was shot here.
I think on the same your Greekrestaurant, like, hey, it's probably
not gonna be able to ould competethe chowder bars out there in Connecticut and
Massachusetts. So well, the chowderbarge, you know, is uh yeah,
(38:34):
I mean they used it. Imean there is no chowder barge that
they used to shoot Mutiny on theBounty with Clark Gable in Yukon. No,
that's not theirst one from that crappyFenway Park movie. No, that's
just the Wrinkley Sack of Calhoun. That's it. Maybe take them to the
chowder barchs that'll do it. Iwasn't gonna go, but then they took
(38:58):
me to a ceedy restaurant. There. There's weed stores everywhere. If you
guys need a DJ for your eventat Buena Park, I'm a blind DJ
and I've been DJed since I wassixteen when I had my vision. I
spent when I had my vision shoutout to blind Chris. I think that's
the guy. Is that the guy? We we already have a DJ we
(39:22):
can't replace. You don't have ablind DJ. Right, that would get
us through, like at least thesegment, at least talking to the play
How do you know which song iswhich? Well? Right, glad you
as if you text him back,I would he know what flavor seeds are
you eating? Right now? Yeah? Yeah, you got to with your
(39:45):
hand in the cookie jar, justlike the opponent Textoso's got Dan Hurley,
Get Dan Hurley, get rid oflebum and glass leg Street closed day,
make the Lakers great again. It'snot that simple. I wish it was.
(40:07):
I wish it was that simple.I wish you could wash those men
right out of your hair, likeSouth Pacific and send them on their way
and bringing Dan Hurley to mother feverybody. But you heard Don mcclan and
he says he thinks it's gonna happen. Us Getting Dan is like Vic showing
up to your remote on Friday. It's just not gonna happen. Oh,
(40:29):
I mean, look, there's apossibility. I mean he is out here
with his wife with Rob Po.Lincoln gives, oh, oh okay,
because Vick is out here with hiswife and he ain't come. No,
VIC has not left the house infive years. Yeah, I think it's
more of a possibility that Stan akaDan Hurley is coming to the Lakers than
Vic comes to any of our remoteever again. In fact, Hurley could
(40:55):
turn this job down and take itthree years later and his chances would still
be better than Vic. The Vic, the VIC barge has bowled into a
bridge pillar and is never to arriveat a summer tour stop again. The
frenchis Scott Keith Bridge. Y'all stfustop talking Lakers basketball. It's effing cringe.
(41:25):
Do at least a Del Friday orsomething. Hey, f you,
buddy, that's a guy that Ithought would embrace the Stan and Riz talk
right saying that it's cringe now hesays it's boomer cringe to hear us talk
Lakers, because you know there's sucha new brand that only young people talk
about. P I don't buy thatHurley solves our king problems. Lebron probably
(41:52):
just wants him hired so we couldhave him fired in three years so we
could take over as GM Lake coachand have Lebron Junior take take a number
one once he's eligible in twenty twentyseven. That's Bryce, I believe,
Yes, I believe Bryce. Whatis he's a sophomore junior? Yes,
(42:14):
well, Lebron. Now after AdamSilver's stinking press or about expansion, you
know, it was all boned upabout Vegas, thinking that somehow he's gonna
outbid these dudes that are worth tenand twenty billion dollars for an NBA franchise
out in Las Vegas. People areseeing Dan Hurley as a white savior.
Yes, this is mistale. Thisjust came from the white bitch. This
(42:37):
is too much, Matt, Thisis too much. This just came from
the nine five to one. HeyPee, I would drag my puzzo through
a mile of broken glass to getrid of Lebron James Again, Dan Hurley,
don't do it. I keep yourpoots so intact. Dude, don't
do that for yourself. It's notgonna help us either way. If you
hurt your poots. Has to bea Dan Hurley signing in the last twenty
(43:00):
four hours, if he's out heresomewhere in the South Bay a restaurant,
has you guys been talking about somebodywho's had to have snapped a pitcher.
Oh, he might be at theNobu in El Segundo. Yeah. I
mean that it helps the Lakers, right, They don't want to keep this
is like keeping Mike Brown a secretis one thing, but you want people
to see you with day. Yeah. Like we're making a run at this,
(43:23):
guys. We're here with the hottestsit in town right at MB Post.
Now, Matt, this last textcomes to your point. Everyone is
a whore. If they offered Hurleya one hundred mil he would do a
human centipede with Lebron and Rich PaulJesus. It's a good point. It's
(43:44):
a good point. One hundred milliondollars a lot of money. But isn't
it enough to get nailed by theking every day for two three years?
We're number saw Next, I'm gonnago with yes.
