we don't get anything for ourselves. We got that for the people that attend.
Couldn't both be a thing? Iwould like to think so, now,
Matt, I would hate to dothis, but I'd like to bring
up a blasphemy that I heard thatVic said while we were in the prep
zone and it was going so well, this feels great eto' anoiocha. You

(07:01):
know, we're feeling good bouncing ourstaff, and now somebody rated out vic
Vic said that Bronni's going seventeenth inthe twenty twenty four. That's not possible.
That is not what he said. There is no play the bands music
telling the world food full of sugarwill make no medicine go down to the

(07:23):
truth. No world that that happens. There is not, not in the
multiverse, not in the eighth dimension. There is no possible way that anybody
would suggest that. You mean thedimension that doesn't have Spider Man, it
has Spider Ham, Peter Parker myfavorite, exactly right. Well, Vic

(07:50):
never mentioned Bronnie I did mention youguys talking to Steve Lapis yesterday. You
didn't say going seventeenth. I nevermentioned Bronnie James today, and he's saying
that's a lie. I'm saying,mishurd No. I did not mention Brownie
James. Did you discuss the Lakersseventeenth pick? No? Okay, well

(08:15):
that's just all right an bald facelive then on the text do all right?
All right? I was talking aboutyou guys interview with with Last,
Why we clarify? Yeah, SteveLast, he was tremendous and he asserted
himself, you know, right intothe did Jay Wright? Well, he
said he knows Jay right well, and there's no way Jay Wright would ever

(08:35):
take the Laker job. Ever.He said he left no pinhole of possibility
exactly. And that was a greatinterview and there was a lot of clarity
served up by Lappis. Did youspeak to Lapis's description of what he thought
watching Brownie James play limited minutes againstWashington when he did his one West Coast

(08:56):
game? What did laps saying?Okay, well that's good. Then you
didn't mention it? He said, you know, he barely played, He
didn't really do much. But Iwas surprised at how athletic he was.
That seems to be the overriding philosophyon Brunnie. Yeah, that does not
get you drafted seventeen. How aboutfifty four or fifty five? What's the

(09:16):
Lakers second pick? Fifty four?Yeah? Whatever, you want to take
him at fifty five? Take him? Who cares? All right, Well,
I'm sorry, I'm sorry about themisinformation. I thought worries. No,
listen, I'm just pumped up forI'm pumped up for Brea Rock and
Bruise, Brea Wayna Park. I'msorry, Brains, it's a place we'd

(09:37):
been Brejacient. Yeah, eh,not really. That's on Beach Boulevard,
that's on the seven seven to sevenBeach Boulevard, that there's no doubt about
that thing. We are looking forwardto that thing. But again I'm a
think were you trying to were youtrying to spin anything in the Lakers way

(09:58):
or away from the Lakers today,Try to say that this is okay,
this isn't an embarrassment anything like that. No, the prism of purple and
gold right now is very fuzzy.Obviously, the are you saying the diamond
has a flaw in it? Thesales pitch if you're a gemologist and you
have that monocle thing in your headthat there's a sales that is clarity.

(10:22):
No, it was an ineffective salespitch that that was obviously denied. They
didn't have enough, be it money, be it years, be it vision,
or the odds were against them inConnecticut, you know, you know,

(10:43):
back to back championships. That seemsto be the public opinion that that
early want to get back and wina third string that seems to be the
overwriting. But to somebody like you, but somebody like you, that that
compared to the Laker job, Butit feels like a back of shells compared
to the taj Mahall's riches. Doesit not well again? You know,

(11:07):
we've gone over his Jersey roots, his East Coast love. The situation is
so perfect to win a third straight. He's got a lot of a lot
of young blood studs coming back, you know, to the Huskies. It's
like a built in almost a builtin championship to make history, to go

(11:28):
down as one of the greatest collegecoaches since uh the great Wooden, who
was, you know, the lastbasketball genius to ever win three in a
row. Feel like coach Chrzchewski inthere. I feel like maybe he could
be in there, and maybe KerryTarkanian, you know, his way in
there. What about the Tom Penders? What about the taman You know,

(11:48):
maybe before Penders. But I Ilove where you're going with it, Pete.
I might put Calhoun in there aswell. I might mention Calhoun before
going all the way back to JohnWooden. I might mention Calhoun, Tarkanian,
Skrzyzewsky, Penders. Let's not forgetRick Barnes, what about Ben Hallen.

(12:09):
You go to three straight final fours, you get nothing. My bad,
my bad? Oh, come on, they said you head coach.
They're Nope, they're going straight tothe top. That's where they're going.
I mean, you didn't mention ludeOlsen love lout presidential in his way?

(12:31):
What a demeanor he had about him? What about Pete Nowle right? What
about Pete Noles? That's that's fromVictor there with winn will Pete cole action,
that's what about Ernie Catt? Whatabout Roy Williams, deputy dog,
Ernie Kent? Yeah, Roy Williams. College basketball has been a night,

(12:54):
Rick Majeris, Dean Smith, SteveLapis, QB Brown, Jay Wright,
four Final Force, two NCAA Tournamentchampionships, eight Big East titles? Vick,
can you just write him off?I guess you missed what happened at
Seaton Hall when PJ. Carlssimo wasunchoked. Hidd't me? How about Big
John Thompson? You're racist? Oh? Come on, Vic, you're clearly

(13:16):
racist obviously. What about Lavin's text? Me? Say what about sweet sixteen
appearances? I don't get that? And what about forty minutes a hellou Norm
Richardson down at fad Y? Yeah? What about Nolan? Victor? Racist?
Am I to mention every great collegecolt? Yeah? What about you
went all the way back to woodand the white guy. What about Usta
she dropping a twenty four ounce NattyLights in Iowa. Stay, Well,

(13:37):
if you look at the the perspectivethat we were talking was three consecutive national
championship. That's not the perspective wetalked John Wooden. That's not what we
talk Vic. We talk all inclusivehere, that's what we talk. We
have clarification, this says petros Vicdidn't say I want Bronnie at seventeen,
but he said yesterday if Bronni isto pick at seventeen, it's going to

(14:00):
be fabulous for the franchise. Well, that also wouldn't be said in that
off your lips. I did Ibelieve I said that. I don't believe
I I uttered those words. Youknow we have the ability to check the
tape absolutely, and you know wealso have the ability to manipulate it edit
the tape as well. You knowthat very well, Big, I have
been a victim of manipulation. Wewere AI before AI man, Oh,

(14:28):
no doubt, we've been wagging thedog. We knew, we knew how
to manufacture content before freaking AI.My ass. We were before McCarthyism,
before the propaganda against Kaiser Wilhelm. This was the money Show is the official
station of creation. We know that. Now we have Mark Madina, I'm

(14:54):
next. We are going to discussthe Laker situation with him. Although ask
me, Dean, what was missingin that lake or pitch? Why was
it not that thirty million dollars? That's what thirty million dollars was missing?
Clarity, a desirable roster, goodGreek food on the West coast, stability

(15:15):
in the front office, a lackof relationship with Clutch Sports. We'll ask
him. Then. David Vasse willjoin us live from Dodger Stadium, and
speaking of that, Vic Cory Segerout tonight, but in our hearts forever
as two edmona, oh Cory SiegerMan, oh Man, God oh Man,

A lot of people thinking like asweet child of mine? Where do we

(24:12):
go? Where do we go?Now? Where do we go? Sweet
child? Where do we go?Where do we go? Now? Hi
Ya? You know what, maybewe don't even need to talk to him.
We'll just say that Mark Medina,he is a great NBA discerner of

(24:32):
information and procure of rumors, andhe shapes them into stories, tells the
people these stories. Former Lakers BeatWriter, USA Today, NBA Insider,
now Fox Sports NBA Insider. Itis our friend Mark Medina joining us once
again on the Petrosen Money Show. How's it going? Mark? Where do

(24:53):
we go? Wow? I'm doingwell after that amazing, lovely intro.
I'm also one if we're into speculationrumors, this Billy Joel concert on October
twelfth, into it Dome. Iwonder if Steve Balmer's gonna have front row
seats and not of Dan Earley's favoritemusical artists that helped him inspire to stay

(25:17):
East, Pitt Stains and all. There's no doubt about that. You know,
everybody's got a little bit of adifferent kind of angle on how this
hit them last week when the newsbroke. Were you surprised that Dan Hurley's
name came up when it did,and were you surprised what transpired after that?

(25:37):
Well, I was surprised because intoday's age, there's very few secrets.
I wasn't surprised that the Lakers didn'tget him. I think that it
encapsulates two things. Dan Hurley alreadyhas a good thing going at Yukon winning
two national championships. That's nice, and even in the age of nil and

(25:59):
player movement, like, he hasa lot of capital in college basketball.
And secondly, the Lakers aren't theLakers right now. They have the brand,
they have LA, they have anamazing radio show in the afternoon on
a five seventy with you guys. They have a lot of questions on their
roster and Lebron James and his healthat father time and all this fun stuff.

(26:21):
So I wasn't surprised what happened. Now, what I think is interesting
is trying to discern, like whyhe rejected and at least, you know,
this is a Lakers perspective, sowhether this is well reasoned or coping
mechanism that you know, there wasno first date beyond you know, the
first one. Their impression is thathe rejected the offer more because of everything

(26:45):
that's good about Yukon and nothing reallyabout concerns about the Lakers. And here's
why they got that impression when theytalked with him and did their whole sales
pitch. You know, no doubtboth sides talked about the good about the
roster, the bad about the roster, et cetera. But they didn't get
any sort of underlying tone of skepticismconcern from Dan Hurley when they're talking about

(27:10):
all these x's and o's and everything. And so with that when he rejected
the Lakers, of course, likewith every rejection, like he didn't go
into chapter and verse. But theydidn't get any impression during the meeting and
that hey, you know, hehas a lot of concerns about us.
We might be having a brace forPlan B. So take all that information
for what it's worth. How bigmark of a because you know, look,

(27:33):
they made the offer. They offeredhim a ton of money, more
money than they paid any coach exceptPhil Jackson. Do you think this is
as big of a hit as alot of people are sort of interpreting it
as that that they're kind of,I don't know, humiliates the right word,
but they really been dealt a blowto their image publicly after swinging and
missing on Hurley. Yeah, ifI had a rank as far as missus

(27:57):
the Lakers franchise goes, I don'tthink that this is up there. I
mean, it's not great. Itshows that, you know, the Lakers
aren't what the Lakers historically are.But I don't think it was embarrassing necessarily.
I mean, I think that thenews was really surprising only because there
hadn't been formal talks about it.But again, at least from what it

(28:21):
was related to me, it's notlike they had discussions with Dan early out
of the blue last week and threwa hell Mary like they had, you
know, Rob helinkt very informal discussionsat the very beginning. It was only
until last week where they thought, okay, they have a chance now.
And so that's why from their perspective, it wasn't talked about as much.

(28:44):
But I think that when you rankmisfires, I think that the ty Lub
miss fire was it was a lotworse because they were very near a deal
and then it became a point ofcontention where they couldn't agree on size of
the contract. Both in dollar numbersand years and tied didn't take kindly the
fact that the Lakers are making suggestionson who he has on the coaching staff.

(29:07):
I think other misfires, you know, when it comes to you know,
roster decisions with you know, gettingRussell Westbrook and not resigning Alex Carus,
who all those things are a lotmore serious and egregious than missing out
on Dan Early. What do youmake of of Rob Polinka hiring his fourth
head coach in seven and a halfyears as the sort of head of basketball

(29:29):
operations. Yeah, I think RobPolinka's tenure as a general manager and like
had a bass blop with the Lakers. It's very interesting. There's a lot
of contradictions. He's done good thingswith roster building and then he's done bad
things with roster building with you know, uh, not allowing continuity, making

(29:51):
all these changes. But the onething I will give him credit for is
he's corrected mistakes like the Russell Westbrooktrade. But when it comes to co
because yeah, I don't think thatyou know, Rob is the only part
of this. You know, thisis obviously the whole front office dynamic,
and with Jeannie Buss clearly It's onething to say that yeah, since Phil

(30:14):
Jackson's retirement in twenty eleven, that'sa misnomer because all those coaching changes were
during the Jim Busson Mitch Cupcheck era. But yeah, they deserve a lot
of scrutiny and blame that dating backto Luke Walton and Frank Vogel and Darvin
Ham, there hasn't been a lotof continuity. You can maybe understand the

(30:34):
Luke Walton change under the guys ofHey, when once they got Lebron James,
the litmus test was different. LukeWalton wasn't this young coach that's developing
young players, like the standards aredifferent. But shuffling through Frank Vogel after
two years, Darvin Ham after twoyears, whether you like the coach or
thought he had a lot of flaws, mix of both, clearly was a

(30:57):
sign that they didn't have the necessaryvision to pull that through, as well
as the right roster to put thosecoaches in a position to succeed. So
yeah, they deserve I think scrutinyshortly on Frank Vogel and Darvinham with the
roster as well as just if hewas that bad of a coach after two

(31:17):
years. He probably wasn't that greatof a coach in the first place.
Mark Mondina is our guest, ourfriend from Fox Sports, and he knows
his stuff when it comes to theworld of basketball. You mentioned a lot
of that stuff, and you mentionedwhen Lebron came how quantifiable is it at
all for guys like you to figureout how much of his influence is behind

(31:38):
some of this lack of continuity. Now, of course Rob Palinka will end
up taking whatever blame there is totake, and we see head coaches taking
the blame all the time right inthe chest around these parts. How do
you quantify how involved Lebron is inthis stuff and how culpable he is to
some of this lack of just kindof a stream of consistency. Yeah,

(32:04):
well, I would say, Imean, Lebron, no doubt is culpable
because he's the star player on theteam. Now, I think that the
interesting question is how directly culpable ishe and how indirectly culpable is he.
Indirectly, there's no dispute he's culpablefor their success with the championship, the
fact that he's defied Father Time.So those are the positives, the negatives

(32:24):
are. You know, when you'rewhen you have Lebron James on your team,
there is no such thing as rostercontinuity and stability with the head coach
because the expectations are that high. Now, what goes into question is how
much does he deserve the direct blame? And I think because of that,
he's made it a point since theRussell Westbrook trade to not have direct conversations

(32:50):
with the front office or what theyshould or shouldn't do. By all means,
he gets his message out. Hehas a Twitter account or an Next
account, he does the emojis hehas as he does with JJ Riddick.
People know how he feels about things, but it's different than having those kind
of direct conversations that he's had withthe front office. And basically since the
Westbrook trade went down, you know, I've been told and you know certainly

(33:15):
other reporters have gotten the same messagethat you know he's not he's not involved
with them as far as what decisionsthey do or don't do. So I
think with that, while he's certainlynot blameless, the buck stops with the
Lakers front office as far as whatamount of praise or scorn they deserve with
roster moves and coaching hires and firings. Just your your call. Then,

(33:38):
Mark, like, how can theyget this right? And how do they
get it right? They got ahigher head coach here in the next couple
of days or at least the nextweek, Like who do you what name
do you think would resonate with peoplethat that follow your social media fees or
read what you posed. Yeah, here's the thing I don't think that there
is. That's the crux of theproblem to begin with. There's not a

(33:59):
sure fire candidate that's out there thatquote unquote gets it right that the only
candidate that ever existed during that wasTylo and it was very clear he wasn't
going to go anywhere. Steve Bomerwasn't going to allow it, and Tylou
didn't want to go anywhere anyway. The second potential candidate could have been Dan
Hurley. Hey, the Lakers tried, they made their pitch, they made

(34:21):
an effort, but they whiffed. The reality is there's no perfect coaching candidates
out there, and the Wakers don'thave a perfect roster. And on top
of that, there's so many layersof imperfection to this that you have on
one hand, the short term challengesof Lebron James. He's playing out of
his mind and he's still playing atit, but it's the end of his

(34:45):
career. It's not his prime. The other potential problem is that they're trying
to hand off the rants to AnthonyDavis, and he has played exceptionally well.
He's been a lot more injury freethan at least most years of his
career. But that doesn't I mean, he's all of a sudden going to
be competing with Ac Green anytime soonfor Ironman Award third outside of Lebron James

(35:07):
Anthony Davis. I hate to berude here, but the roster isn't good,
Like I could use a lot moreexpletives on top of that. So
how do you sell that to animperfect coach that is either inexperienced allah JJ
Ruddick, but maybe can overcome itbecause he's a former NBA player, he
has a sharp mind, he hasa learner's mindset, or how can you

(35:30):
offset that with an experienced coach? But that has been fired with other teams
for his own imperfection. So that'sthe crux of the problem. They're trying
to solve issues that don't have solutionshere, and so it makes for interesting
radio at least. Yeah, andgood fodder for writing and being an NBA

(35:52):
insider, no doubt about it.And got to say for a guy to
have been on the beat for theLakers to then become an insider is a
heck of a great path because youhave insight that many of these other guys
do not have. We think ofold leather bound Howard Beck from the Daily
News, but that's a long timeago. But Diina, thank you very

(36:14):
much. Great insight and a greatinterview. Have a great night. And
you told us first. When wesee in October, I think Tyloo on
Steve Bomber's shoulders at the Billy JoelShow listening to the Stranger. We'll know
where we heard it first, righthere. Yeah, I mean now it's
just a matter of do they gothe sweet route or do they go front
row down Bamber's front row, Nodoubt, no doubt. We all have

(36:39):
a face that we hide we forever. It's the fees of the stranger.
Whatever that socks sucks. We didn'tstart the fire. Now we know who's
it gonna be. Me. I'mdoing a whole mazzy star set. Oh

(37:00):
God, good stuff from Medina andhe was a very candid with all the
answers. We'll do some textosos,we'll have your word number song, local
knowledge. David Vasse coming up inthe next hour. Rangers are in town,
and don't forget We're going to BuyennaPark to start our summer tour on

(37:21):
Friday at three o'clock at the Rockand Bruce. If you're not there,
I don't know if I'll ever forgiveany of you ever. Ever. Don't
you ever say I don't have blackfriends. Huge thank you to Mark Medina.
David Vassa say, David Vase willjoin us from Dodger Stadium at the

(37:45):
end. David HUSSOI the Great Stateskater. Yes he's incredible. DV from
Dodger Stadium. The Rangers are intown. You're def any World Series champions
skater. Yes, he's incredible DVfrom Dodger Stadium. The Rangers are in
town. Your def any World Serieschampions. He will join us from Dodger

(38:07):
Stadium. We are going until sixpm tonight with Dodgers playing some baseball.
Well, we're thrilled to be herewith all the listeners today. We'll have
a similar schedule for the rest ofthe week till Friday, where it's three
to six just like this, butwe'll be doing a big show with all
kinds of giveaways like a Westinghouse TVand Notts tickets, all kinds of stuff

(38:29):
for our eleventh annual Petros and MoneySummer Tour. But Matt, we do
have some textosos here to get through. A secret text us A fine brought
to you by your so called Toyotadealers. We make it easy, you
know. We run into this alot. This from the last segment,
this says, did Matt just saythe stranger sucks? He just lost all

(38:50):
musical cred. Go beyond the Asides, Matt, and you'll see that
Billy Joel is one of the greatestsong writers of all time. Good day,
sir, I said, goode whateverman, Yeah, I know you're
right. Not we didn't start thefire. So yeah, when Matt Matt
says the first time I worked withMatt, he said, look, this
is a great song and I wantyou to listen to it. It tells

(39:12):
the tale of the twentieth century. And then I played Uptown Girl for You.
That was good too, And thenyou played the River of Dreams.
Oh love River of dream I go, We'll get in the in the middle
of the I do think Allentown isslightly underrated. All cred Gone Gone?

(39:34):
Hey, Pete, if the Rangersplayed in the late nineties, if the
Rangers played late nineties hard rockers creedto win the World Series last season,
can the Dodgers play Canadian crooners Nickelbackto win it too? Hashtag? Look
at this photograph? Well, Creedfrom Florida, Nickelback from Canada. Do

(40:00):
the Dodgers have any real Canadian vibe? It's not like Kanye's they or anything.
No, that's maybe they go toTexas and just play the Nixons.
Can we just play Suker Yucky?I don't know, Uh, not a
bad idea. I mean I thinkthat would, you know, probably be
much more up the alley. HeyPedro, this Lebron James. This is

(40:22):
Lebron James. Oh, I don'tappreciate how you talk about me. Dog.
I challenge you to a one onone at Normandy Park and bring that
bitch Matt Dollar Bill Smith with you. What hey, Lebron's talking ass?
If they have a pickup game ala Victor britt in Tony, y'all pee.

(40:43):
You really can't believe these listeners secondhandnews about vix ranting. Great sports
talk can't devolve into listening listening greatsports talk, no matter how pro elder
abuse it gets. Uh. Secondhandnews, well, look, it was
secondhand news about Lebronny. It's seventeen. But most of the stuff, you
have to be honest, Matt. Most of the stuff that the textosa were

(41:05):
say was said on Rogan and Rodney, by Vic or anybody else. I
would say it's about ninety percent accurate, yes, and if it's not,
and even the other ten percent isjust kind of lost in translation via text.
Typically they are spot on. Thisclearly was manufactured. It didn't seem

(41:27):
but I didn't manufacture, no,Matt. We talked about the well we
have a story in local knowledge aboutHermsa Beach in the very next hour,
and we talked about clark Field, where the Little League District championship was that
I was at on Sunday, andhow it was all dirt balls, all
dirt. The whole diamond was dirtball, dirt ball. And this text is
a little bit of a clarification. This is a little local knowledge from a

(41:50):
true her most rat. Clark Field, which sucks is all dirt because they
have to have the little leaguers withsixty foot bases and the thirteen plus with
ninety foot bases on the same field. And let me tell you, nothing
grows the hair on your pootsa morethan a forty five year old X minor
leaguer ripping balls to you with afungo on an all dirt infield and screaming

(42:10):
at a group of ten year oldsto stay down and keep your chest in
front of it. It's true.We Latin played on an all dirt field
and as I was an infield dirtYeah, those balls really fall. Yeah,
I took one to the shin myleg shattered into a thousand pieces.
A very very interesting local knowledge therefrom her Most. Oh yeah, that's

(42:37):
a good point though I never thoughtabout that that it's because and that's what
it was. They played The parkthat you were talking about with Northwestern is
where they played. Yeah, andthat's why it was because all the Little
League was played there. I neverrealized. But that's got to have a
ninety you gotta have a ninety footfield and then the sixty foot field.
Yeah, I got to have bothfields if you're a real little league.
Exactly, just all dirt because there'sstones. They don't drag it. It's

(43:02):
a nightmare. Oh, Freddie Freemanhas some Canadian roots. There's your Nickelback
right then hashtag. Look at thisphotograph Canadian parents from Orange County starting pitcher
tonight, the big Maple. JamesPaxton from Canada. There we go.
All right, somebody called Kroger it'son hash rock forever. I mean,

(43:27):
Creed is more ass than Nickelback, right, Yeah, Nickelback's got a lot
more pop sensibility. Yeah. Looklook at this photograph. Man. Yeah,
every time I do it makes melaugh. All right, we'll be
back with your word number song.Stay with us.
