petro Sin Money tro Sin Money,Trosin Money, Rosin Moneys. I'll stop
the show. Oh my god,we reverse twenty twenty three. Oh reverse
twenty twenty three. Right now theyhanded us the pick the baton, and

(00:44):
right now the Celtics are on theclock for the fifty fourth pick. The
second round is going. No one'sever cared about the second round of the
NBA Draft like we do ever thisyear ever, because we're anticipating being nailed
by the King. Lebron is goingto make the Lakers. You like,
yes, draft his son Brianni James. He has somehow lasted despite his four

(01:11):
point two points twenty eight percent shootingfrom beyond the arc and helping lead USC
to their worst season under head coachAndy enfil by playing about five minutes again.
Yes, somehow he has managed tolast until this point the fifty fourth
pick, will Boston select him?Well, that's the thing. We have

(01:32):
all of our draft tools ready.Should we carry the Boston pick? Just
yeah, like we're okay, Sowhere's our flag? Let's test flag.
Okay, that's the wind of changeblowing her young man's life. No,
no, no, it's flag. And then we go sound full with the

(01:52):
TV. Yeah. Then we goto the TV and that dude Mark,
not Adam Silver, but that guyMark, the second guy comes out right
and he says, with the fiftyfourth pick, and the pick is now
in. They're in commercial, right, but they're gonna They're gonna wait and
do the pick when they get back, right, unless it's not Bronnie James,

(02:14):
then it'll just show on the screen. You think, yes, Well,
then we won't be able to doour thing and we won't be able
to test. But I guarantee youthe Lakers pick is going to be the
Lakers is. But I was tryingto get a test on the Celtics pick
just to make sure that we becauseMatt, we were handed this and we
weren't exactly ready for it, butwe are. We were worried that it

(02:34):
might not have arrived by the timeDon McClain comes on at the bottom of
the hour to discuss all the pickscam Christie to the Clay to the Clippers,
Dalton Connect to the Lakers, andwe were hoping whomever the Lakers selected
fifty five? Can you believe theydidn't take Bronnie? Are you surprised they
took Ronnie? What? But nowwith Don joining us at the bottom of
the hour, we are gold. All right, So we are in a

(02:55):
we haven't even started the show yet. Now we're officially in. Are we
going to let Vick in the veryfirst ever Petro send Money second round NBA
Draft? Official coverage on AMVII seventyLA Sports You're Home of the Dodgers and
the Clippers. The answer about theVic thing is if his mind is properly
adjusted been Because this is a draftshow, Matt, we can't just come

(03:21):
on and be the clowns that wenormally are. Minnie Kiffin might be listening
exactly. We can't be messing around. No, have him call in and
say you two clowns, and Istill I pushed back. We were doing
great see it's not Brownie all right, Boston, Boston Selection. We're not
going to be able to do ourthing. You're right, Matt. They're
still playing like a Mountain Dew commercialand Pon Watson out of gone Zaga is

(03:46):
the pick the cot. But wecan't do the flag because we didn't have
the announcement. Oh no, Ican't. I thought maybe they were going
to go to the commissioner to makethe announce or the we screwed up the
test, right, there's no pick. Yeah, but we just literally dropped
the baton in the heat right beforethe final. Do you want to try
and just go to whatever the broadcastis? Well? No, well let's

(04:09):
just yeah, okay, so let'stry. This is the test. The
test is just gonna be going towhatever sound the broadcast has. There's the
flat broadcast. Let's go all right, and then the wins have changed?
Okay, Why does everyone at theLakers table. There's Kurt Rambis, there's
Nick Mazella, there's JJ Reddick andRob Palinka. That one guy looks like

(04:30):
Jerry West, but it's not JerryWest. No, I don't know anyone
on that side of the table. But that's Rambus and Mazella and there is
JJ Reddick on his phone. Who'sgot the beanie on? You said,
is that Genie? Is that?Does Genie sit there with a beanie on?
I don't know, maybe Jeanie witha big beanie. It looked like

(04:53):
it could have been Is that jMoore? Oo? It could have been
Jay Moore because Genie does wear glassesand that looked like a female with glasses
and a beanie. Maybe Linda Rambiscould have been Maybe that's Linda Rambis that
she's got a seat at the tablelike Latimer sit at the table. So
we are official, two minutes fortyseconds away from the Lakers no longer being

(05:14):
on the clock. All the Bronniebs, Bronnie James not even being first
team All League in high school butbeing a McDonald's All American, Bronnie James
being on drafts for twenty twenty four, twenty twenty five and Lebron getting all
butt hurt when he gets taken offof them, Bronnie James having a heart
problem, Bronnie James having a lessthan mediocre year in usuring six to one

(05:38):
in a quarter, and a lessthan mediocre USC team that the coach leaves
and goes to SMU Eric Musselman. Now there all of the stuff that we've
talked about, this secondary Lonzo Ballside show where the guy's not even going
in the first round, let alonethe top two picks. Is this the
most anticipated draft pick the Lakers havemade since Lonzo Ball? Yes? Right,

(06:00):
and it's safe to say most definitely. I don't remember she a few
Yeah, I don't remember brandon Ingrammoving the was brandon Ingram was after Lonzo,
right, that was the next yearand DiAngelo was before. Yeah,
so yeah, this, I thinkthis is more. This is watched more
closely than the brandon Ingram pick.Right, Polega looks like the bad guy
in a RoboCop movie. There atthe end, does Plink and I have

(06:21):
the right number? Oh, they'reclapping, they're all happy, they're acting
like they did something. Lakers Headquarters. They're standing up in shaking that.
It's not Genie. That's not achick. No, not a chick.
That's a dude. Oh that's Jesse. Is that Jesse Buss. That's Jesse
Buch. I knew there was avery buzz, but there's Joey right next
to him. There's Joey Buss. That's Jesse. That's Jesse. Jesse's like

(06:43):
the rapper bus. Jesse is theI hit the road. I'm a scout
bus. Right, Well, Igot I was in the Joey Buss's suite
once like a dad's thing because he'syou know, lives around me. And
I was asked to move to oneside of the suite because the other side
of the suite was like Jesse Buss'srap fred right, and they had like
starter jackets on and stuff. Whatup. Yeah, So I was like,
okay, I'll move over three seats. I guess now. When the

(07:06):
Lakers took Jalen Hoods Schafiino, Katesgave us the heads up before they went
to the podium because he had aninside source. Have you heard from your
inside source yet, Kate's I havenot heard from my inside source. No.
Well, they're all up there shakinghands and clapping and slapping hands and
acting like BFFs. So the pickis in, according to the well what

(07:29):
Jonathan, Oh, you might wantto hit it. Wait, it looks
like they're about to go No,no, no, no, why are
they they all look at woj Yeah, here we go. Here we go.
Let's go right, go go,go, go, cut it up.
Lakers select Ronnie James from the Universityof Southern California. Good job,

(07:55):
guys, it's a moment there.I didn't think we were going to happen.
I feel like a man put thelargest hands in the world just gave
me a prostige. Just the feelingI have. We're sitting on the space
needle. I really feel like thatright now, the city is sitting on

(08:16):
the needle. Bronnie James has beendrafted in the second round by the Lakers.
We all just got nailed by thekid. Rich Paul tried to act
like there was other interest in BronnieJames by getting Bob Myers to say on
this broadcast that they were warning teamsthat if they took him that he was

(08:37):
going to go to Australia or someplacelike that. That probably is BS just
trying to lead BS. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do. I'm lebron
James. I'm gonna send my son, who had a heart incident, to
the other side of the world andtwenty two hours away to play basketball if
a team takes them besides the Lakers. So we are all going to go

(08:58):
through the motions that were predicted ona hot mic by Geeter. We are
all going to be going through thesemotions and being nailed by the go to
sports at l A. They're doing. I think they're doing a show.
Oh, should we go over andset over there six? I think it's
six ninety six ninety one. Maybelet's see what get over there saying let's
see if they're saying how this isthe greatest thing. Oh, they're going

(09:18):
to be so excited. Or no, they're not on. Oh they're not
on. They didn't do it.Are they doing an Instagram? Don't they
do an IGI? I'm not I'mnot chasing them on social media. They're
in the best of run our testsnow. So it happened. We did,
indeed get nailed by the King.Lebron got his coach who's watching five

(09:45):
and laugh and shake hands and hugLebron got his coach just Humilion. They
they they drafted his son. Thatthe general consensus after the combine was not
an NBA prospect. No, Ibelieve John Holland, who used to work
on the front office of the MemphisGrizzlies and has been He's the guy that
came up with the player efficiency ratingsstat that many people use. He put

(10:09):
Bronnie James in the category as heranked his top seventy five players of I
don't get it was the category thatBronnie James fell into. For John Hollinger
of The Athletic, I don't getit. We're getting it. It's very
easy. Yes, Well, we'regetting it. You're not getting it,
Holland you're wor getting Yes. Andnow I'd like to point out the individual

(10:35):
that was selected after him. Kevinmccullor junior, was the best player in
college basketball until he blew his kneeout at Kansas and somehow slipped all the
way to the fifty sixth pick.Well, you heard what they said.
USC just didn't use Brownie correctly. That's right. He's a much better pro
than He'll be much better in theKevin mccullor at Kansas last year averaged eighteen

(11:01):
points, six rebounds, four assistson forty five percent shooting at Kansas number
one team in the nation until hegot hurt and went down with a knee
injury. Those were his numbers.Been well coached by Bill Sell. Yeah,
yeah, guy, that's twenty threeyears old. Well it happened.
It happened just like they said.Lebron gets his way every time. Lebron

(11:24):
controls the Lakers, and everybody thatacts like he doesn't is on the payroll,
or at least is on the emotionalpayroll. It's time to start the
show. The future belongs to crowds. A Gongby sick of this. This

(11:50):
is horse crap. It's his absolutehorse crap. But we knew it was
coming, we did, and yetit still feels so filthy. It felt
surreal. And they sent his name. I really went. I was like,
wow, really like m Color's stillon the board. Maybe they'll just
say, hey, we'll sign them. No one's gonna draft him. Let's
make sure we get Mcolor because ifwe don't, I guarantee he's going in

(12:11):
one of these last three picks.I don't know how soon. You can
go to NBA dot com and orderthe Brownie Laker jersey yesterday, and I
imagine Vic that you're ecstatic about this. I'm ecstatic about the narrative father son.
You know, Brownie James obviously uheviscerated. The Lakers just drafted US

(12:33):
six guard with shooting guard. Asix to one shooting guard point with a
heart condition. A six to oneshooting guard with a heart condition who can't
shoot shot twenty seven percent from threelast year and sixty six percent from the
free throw line. Obviously, it'seasy to belittle his skill his skill set,

(12:54):
because am I I'm a bad guyfor belittling his skill set? What
should you say about? Listen thenumbers, The numbers were poor. Didn't
get many minutes of action obviously earnedminutes, right, you earn minutes.
I don't know if if those areusare saying minutes, but doesn't really matter.

(13:16):
He's now a Laker. He's aLaker, and maybe he's destined for
the G League. I would liketo think. So you have to get
groomed. I mean, jeez, you know Tom, you know, to
get his game in order. Thismight this might be the grossest thing the
Lakers have ever done, maybe banningJerry West. And it's kind of crazy

(13:41):
that it's all happening, like inthe same couple of weeks, like the
Jerry West story. The Celtics win. Interestingly, they are consistent. Interestingly
enough of all the people I don'tknow, I can't figure out. I'd
love to get him off the recordand figure out, like it's it's the
best thing that's ever happened to you. Nick Mazela GM of the the South

(14:03):
Bay Lakers, We're gonna have apacked house the g the G League.
The team that you're the that yourun is going to have the most attention
on any team in the history ofthe G League. Is that good about
that? Or is that the worstthing ever for you? Like? Which?
Which is that? For you? That was how it was at USC
right when we started there, andthen it dissipated from there because you know,
they weren't five minutes a game, they weren't good and twenty seven percent

(14:26):
from three and well saw what everybodywho knows anything about basketball saw in high
school when he wasn't first team AllLeague but still a McDonald's All American.
What are we doing, vic arewe doing? We're swashing Lebron James,
That's all it is. And that'swrong. This is a meritocracy. It's
wrong. And you know it's onething don't tell me about Thanisis and Yogo

(14:48):
Yorgos or whoever the hell is aCopus Brothers. Yeah, they're the Milwaukee
Bucks. Yeah, either of theMilwaukee Bucks, and Yanni's is like twenty
six. He's not forty. Youknow, you want to have his others
around and at least they're over sixtyone. Well, they're afraid he's gonna
leave, right, they were terrifiedhe was gonna leave Milwaukee. It was
it was a move that was madeto Playkate, their superstar, who,

(15:11):
like you said, was twenty sixand was thinking about leaving because he's in
Milwaukee and we want Lebron James toleave. That's exactly right. This is
terrible, it really is it.Really? I didn't know. I shouldn't
care. I mean, who thatWe've never cared about a second round pick
of the Lakers before. I didn'tknow it was gonna feel like this,
Matt. I didn't know I wasgonna feel this. I didn't know I

(15:33):
was gonna feel this terrible about it. Feel this nailed by the King and
it shouldn't. We shouldn't because Idon't like it. I don't like it.
We should not care. It's thefifty fifth pick. The odds of
them taking mccullor instead, who wasthe best player on the board by a
wide margin. Now, if heamounts to something in Phoenix. Someone's gonna

(15:54):
have some splaining, Dodo. Ilove the narrative, as if they should
be a narrative beyond them trying towin championships. If you love the narrative,
take mccullor at fifty five and signthem after the draft because no one
else is gonna draft him. Isthis the most naked the Emperor has ever
been? Yes, the Emperor hasno clothes. The only other time we've

(16:18):
ever seen anything like this. Remindme of the kid's name from Yukon that
Lebron demanded the Miami Heat draft ShabbazNapier and he lasted one year, and
Riley was like, he's not anNBA player, and we I'm gonna re
sign. We need to have him. They draft him. Lebron leaves for

(16:41):
Cleveland anyway, and he lasts ayear in the NBA. We're a city
of cocks, that's what we are. Let the Summer of Lebron begin,
guys. He's got three games comingup in a week for the Summer League
in San Francisco, and then theyhead to Vegas for the Summer League.
Lebron's gonna be there. He's gonnabe there watching his sign It's going to
be sold out. The school gameis July sixth in San Francisco with the

(17:02):
California Classic. That's uh, that'sanother thing. So there's no guarantees at
fifty five, there is for thisgame. Yeah, there absolutely was a
guarantee at fifty five, and THISTIwas going to be drafted there that's the
guarantee. And this is a mightymighty Hollywood narrative that's now in full effect.
This is the most rampant nepotism that'sever taken place in the history of

(17:25):
professional sports that we've ever seen. And it's a week showing of leadership from
the Los Angeles Lakers that they actuallysat there and acted like they've made a
pimp. That was I think that'swhat it was. I think it was
watching them hang up, start clapping, high fiving each other, hugging each
other. Two things are true.We got him, well you were going

(17:45):
to get him. No one elsewas going to draft him. Yeah,
no, no team except the Lakerswere ever gonna sniff browny a. That
whole Australian narrative is a lie cardiacissue, and they're going to send him
to Australia. I genuinely feel badfor our listeners that support the Lakers.
I genuinely do what, like, what's I think the big quest? Like

(18:08):
what percentage of them think this isa cool thing? Vic? So what
percentage of them are Vics listen atfifty's okay with just pick it fifty five
and you shouldn't be okay with it, Vick. I just feel like it's
not the it's not the fifty fifthpick. Who cares about the fifty fifth
pick. It's the fact that everybodyknows this guy forced them to pick his

(18:30):
son exactly, that there is nopossible way he was the best player on
their board. It's not possible,no way. That's that's the problem,
Like just just sign them after there'sno definitive answer at fifty five. It's
a total crapshoot at fifty five, right, So all you did was play

(18:52):
Kate. So the overall message doesn'tmake any a player who's hijacked your franchise
for the last seven years. Sonow JJ Reddick is going to be tasked
with developing a kid who shouldn't havebeen drafted. There who's who's the son
of the guy that controls the teamthat got you your job. You don't
see some kind of leadership issue hereand all of that. You don't see

(19:14):
just the contradictory nature of this.Listen, you guys have been I've been
banging that drum for a long time. We do we bang that draft.
And I understand your concerns. Youknow the fact that Lebron's came in seven
years ago. When when did broncome in six six? Seven years ago?
And the Lakers were in the ABYSSat that point, they let's face
it, they missed the playoffs hisfirst year. I believe they won the

(19:41):
COVID Championship his second. You justfeel so much pressure in Mike Colon from
being nailed. Now listen. Onthe on the plus side, No,
Brownie's ceiling is extremely extremely high. Why would you say that because he's we
don't no, we don't know hisgame. But I could say, O,

(20:03):
cham Cheese ceiling is extremely high.If you're saying Bronni, I love
that. If you're saying Bronnie's yes, I could say that about Mantis rubuskavishvis
from Lithuania, A Trey, AlexanderArmel, Troure. All of them have
extremely high ceilings. I would arguethat, I would argue Bronni's ceiling is

(20:27):
probably lower just because of his size, and he's not. He does not.
He's not a ball handling guard.He's he's he's you know, he's
that's not and you probably it's whathe probably needs to be as a playmaking
guard at six foot one. Yeah, you might as well be talking to
a handball court. You're right,With all due respect, Don bicycle Posts,

(20:48):
Don mc way, he had abig day yesterday. The biggest story
is that the Lakers took Bronnie James. It is hard to polish this turd
if you're Keeter or worthy. Oh, they're gonna polish it. I mean
that as is going to turn intoshinola. That they didn't put them on
today for that. They were onlast night at eight o'clock doing like a

(21:11):
recapture, right, well, theywere doing the first round. And now
like I'm seeing Chris Little walk down, news director at KFI, and he's
like, hey, can we getsomebody on to talk about Bronnie James going
to the Lakers? Like this isgoing to take over the city all the
social media. Dorothy Lucy is goingto be talking about this with Steve tomorrow
morning. They are all pictures oflittle Bronnie James with his corn rows and

(21:33):
stuff like on the court. Likewe've been working a long time for this.
We've been manipulating and Machavelian nature forlong, long decades to make this
happen. Well, it's pathetic. We'll be back with the great Don McClain.
Bronnie James has gone fifty five tothe Lakers, meaning Tim Kates.

(21:56):
It was the only pick in thedraft that you had to bet more money
to win one hundred dollars minus onetwenty running to the Lakers at fifty five.
The Vegas was willing to gamble atfifty four other picks. I don't
know what led Tim Kates to gambleagainst them. Oh yeah, you owe
a sandwiches, Kates, the sandwich, the great sandwich Caper of twenty twenty

(22:17):
four. The hell were you thinking? Kates? What is wrong with you?
Wishful thinking guys? You were tryingto manifest it. Your sandwich will
come next week, though, Solet me know what you want small size,
of course, we're not going on. I want that sandwich with the
gold flakes on it from the Peninsula. Oh nice, I thought it was
Dino's. Wasn't Greed too, ButI guess we're going over to the peninsula.

(22:38):
Now. How about this NBA executiveon Ronnie James. He's a good
shooter, he's not a great shooter. He'll be a decent enough defender,
but he's not a lockdown defender.He's not a great athlete. He's a
good athlete. Let me read yourtext. Man, Come here and give
me a hug. Sweetheart. Wejust got our guy. Let me read

(23:00):
your text. That really, Ithink describes the way a lot of people
feel right now. I'm getting myhemorrhoids taken out next week. I feel
like it's today. That's perfectly putsir. We'll be right back with Don
McClain. Bet yours some money,AM five to seventy LA Sports Live everywhere
on the iHeartRadio app. The NBADraft has concluded a two day affair for

(23:23):
the first time in its history.Second round featured the fifty fifth overall pick,
Brownie James is a Laker. Oddthat that is the headline of this
draft, not the players selected one, or three, or ten or even
seventeen to the Lakers. Dalton Connecta hell of a value at that spot,
but the one selected number fifty five. Talk about a man in motion,

(23:47):
the great Don McClain, ladies andgentlemen. He knows the inner workings
of the draft and he had ahuge day yesterday, another in a long
list of successes. And the greatthing about Don's NBA Draft training success is
that he's helping somebody else and somebodyelse's family realize their dream and I think

(24:08):
it is very rewarding. I imagineit was very rewarding for him yesterday and
today, always every year. Itis the one and only Don McLain leading
scorer in the history of UCLA.In the PAC twelve A great friend of
our show, you could see astatue at Lemon Park and SeeMe Valley in
the next ass he kisses will bethe first and he joins us on the

(24:30):
Soka Toyota Dealer Celebrity Hotline on afive seventy LA Sports. Let's cracking,
Don, How are you you know? It's funny you say that, Pete,
because that is always the case aboutit being rewarding and seeing families and
these kids realize their dreams. Butprobably the most rewarding I've ever had last
night. In nineteen years of doingthis, was a kid, Khalil Ware

(24:53):
that went fifteenth to the heat. He's been there for three years. Two
years ago he came and I basicallykicked out of the gym. Body language
was bad, no effort, sevenfoot kid that was talented. Everybody always
kissed his ass, so he neverhad to really buy in and work.
And so last year he came backand I just jumped him every day for
three weeks and went back and hada really good year at Indiana and came

(25:17):
back here again and it was greatfor seven weeks and ended up going fifteenth.
The reason I'm saying all that isif you had told anybody on the
planet three years ago that that kidwould be the fifteenth pick in the draft,
they would have said, you're crazy. But we stayed with it.
I stayed on. A lot ofother people helped, but it was unbelievably
fulfilling last night for a lot ofpeople, but me as well to see

(25:38):
him get picked where he did. Now, I gotta know Don because as
I was watching the draft yesterday,I saw the Khalil pick and he broke
down like he was real emotional.I'm telling you Matt, it's it's you
wouldn't believe it, Like we coulddo a documentary on this if somebody had
filmed it all the times where youknow where he started here and the year

(26:02):
he had an Oregon up and down, not great. But then last year
was when he really started to turnthe corner. And I'm telling you and
when you when I say I amfed him every day, I mfed him
every single day for three straight weeksand it finally kind of got through to
him. And I think he finallyI think last night for him, and
I haven't talked to him yet,I will. I think last night he

(26:23):
finally it hit him because he's like, this is what everybody has been trying
to tell me that if I didwhat I'm supposed to do, this is
what would happen. And it did. The one and only Don McLain.
Beyond that story, Don, youhad some other guys picked up as well,
and congratulations, right, I meanwhat a week? Yeah. Yeah,

(26:44):
we had a little bit of asmaller class this year only because we
had three guys go back to school. They didn't stay in the draft,
so we only had four guys thatwere that stayed in the draft. But
reed, Shepherd's one of the higherpicks we've had in the last few years.
He went three to Houston and he'sgoing to be a really good player.
But that wasn't surprising. We kindof knew all along that if he
didn't go to to Atlantet number one, he was most likely going to to

(27:08):
UH Houston at three. Donna,I hate to jump all the way to
pick fifty five, but let's justkind of knock it out on about what
happened between that and now let's getto let's just get it out of the
way. Everybody listening once the DonMcClain take about Sad, you know someone
who knows more about this than anyonewe could possibly talk to you, What
do you make of the Lakers bringinghim in and what do you think it's

(27:29):
going to look like? Is itgoing to be straight G League for Brownie
for a while. It's there's somany point counterpoints to this. There really
is, because on one, ifyou look at it from just a pure
basketball standpoint and listen from everything I'veseen and heard in dealing with him a
little bit last year at USC,the kid is a great kid, and
he is in a really, reallytough spot here, but his dad's one

(27:52):
of the greatest of all time, and he wanted him to be with the
Lakers. So you feel like onsome level, maybe Lebron has earn the
right for this to happen. Somepeople would say that. Other people would
say, look, he wasn't goodenough to get drafted, because he's not.
He should have went back to school. Everybody knows it, but he
didn't, and so he stayed inthe draft, and this is what happened.

(28:15):
Is he going to play for theLakers next year? I would guess
no, but I have heard thathis agent isn't going to let him sign
a two way. So if hedoesn't sign a two way, that means
he has to be on the roster. So if you're a Laker fan and
you're saying, Okay, we gotin a small window with Lebron still to
potentially win a championship, what arewe doing using a roster spot for a

(28:37):
player that we know is not goingto play next year? And so that's
why I say, there's so there'sso many different angles and sides to this
thing. But I hate it forthe kid because I think the kid's a
good kid, and I do thinkif he had stayed in school for another
year or two, we would betalking about him being a way higher pick
and being a rotation player in theNBA. Don none of us have ever

(29:00):
been in an NBA locker room.Everybody's a professional and there for their own
reasons and there to do their ownthing. But I mean, this doesn't
happen in a vacuum. How dothose I mean, how do other players,
what's their perception of this, especiallyin that Laker locker room. I
would hope that the front office,in JJ Reddick and Lebron address it to

(29:22):
the team and to say, look, here's the deal, guys, we
wanted this to happen. Lebron hasearned this. Lebron has done a lot
for the game of basketball. He'sdone a lot for the NBA, for
the Lakers, we wanted this tohappen. He is not going to get
in the way of our pursuit ofa championship. And it's not going to
be awkward. There's not going tobe any favoritism, there's not going to
be anything. We wanted him onthe team, so we put him on

(29:45):
the team. Let's move forward fromhere how we need to and I think
if you do that that maybe it'snot as awkward as it seems today.
The fact that you know, whateveryou think of this situation, it is
a little a bit awkward, andso I think if if you address it,
you can get rid of that rightoff the bat. What like that

(30:07):
you said it, DoD. Imean, there are so many different things.
It's an onion that you can justkeep peeling and the l because the
other layer is for people that don'tknow the business of the NBA is it
just changed and now second round picksno longer get two year contracts. You
can give them up to four years. They just did it last year with
Maxwell Lewis. They gave them afour year, eight million dollar deal.

(30:30):
You can kind of work the numbers, however the heck you want to work
them. They don't count against thecap. It's why they've become more valuable
and people are investing more in secondround picks and developing players through the second
round. So what if what ifRich Paul doesn't like the number? If
they're like, nah, we're we'redoing two team options for Bronnie. We're
giving you two guaranteed and then we'redoing a team option for three and for

(30:51):
it's not going to be four yearsguaranteed. And because the Lakers, and
this is another thing people may notknow, because they have their own G
League affiliates, it they can stillsign him to a full deal and just
send him to the G League eventhough he counts as a roster spot.
Like, there's so many things thatcould piss Lebron off about how they're trying
to develop his son. It's gotto be weird on a ton of levels.

(31:15):
But I also think this, andwe know Lebron over the year,
we know what Lebron wanted is tosay I'm the only guy that's played with
his son in the history of theNBA. That's what he wanted out of
this. Now, I know hewants his kid to do well. And
here's the thing, Matt. Youcan look at whatever contract he gets,
what however you want to look atit. But if you do believe,

(31:36):
and I believe it, I thinkin two or three years he will be
an NBA player, not an AllStar, not maybe even a starter,
but a good enough player to beon a roster. So if you believe
that, what is wrong with signinghim to a two year contract and sending
him the G League for a yearor possibly two. Yeah, I mean
it certainly then fits. And you'redoing Lebron a favor. You've used a

(31:59):
draft pick on a future asset, recognizing that even though you're pursuing a championship
with a forty year old and afragile Anthony Davis this year, that you
can still, you know, findroom room for that. I feel bad
that we keep peppering you with allthese these Bronnis. But here's what,
here's the last thing I would sayabout it, Matt. When's the last
time the fifty fifth pick in thedraft was a rotation player right for any

(32:20):
NBA team? Well, that's thatis a developmental pick, that is a
hopefully in two or three years, this guy will develop and we'll be able
to put him on the on theon the roster and he'll be part of
our team and contribute. It's kindof what's funny about this year? Right,
So last year Trace Jackson Davis goesfifty seven and ends up being a
pretty important bench player for the Warriors. It's very rare. It doesn't happen

(32:42):
a lot better. Very rare. But what about the guy that was picked
right after him. Somehow Kevin mccullorslides the best player in college basketball for
like two months before he blew hisknee out. I don't know why he
slid, and kind of what youthink of his prospects as a potential NBA
player, it's totally different. Right, five years at Texas Tech and cam
an injury on top of it.Those two may be connected. One in

(33:04):
Phoenix, one in LA, Like, what did you think about him being
available there and a guy that couldcome and help right away despite being a
late second round pick. Well, that's up to the evaluation. I didn't
I didn't watch mccollors enough. Hewasn't with us, so I can't really
speak to whether or not he cancontribute right away or not. But I
get your point, Matt, Andnow, look, this draft thing is

(33:24):
hard. You don't know how muchtime I spend on the phone with these
guys, and I spent more timeon the phone about Khalil where than I
have for any other player in nineteenyears. And I would go through everything
we've been through the last three kindof what I just told you guys.
But at the end of the conversation, it's always but you never know,

(33:45):
you never know, You don't know. That's why second round picks become all
stars, That's why first round picksbecome bus You just don't know a lot
of its situation. A lot ofit's what's inside these players. A lot
of it just comes down to luckand injuries in front of you. You
get the opportunity. There's so manydifferent things that happen. It's such an
inexact science that you really can't makea full blown argument about any pick that

(34:08):
anybody makes. The one and onlyDon McClane. We do know one thing
that Trent McLain's a big baller.Last week we talked to you about this
when you were at that big tournamentin Glendale, Arizona, one hundred and
forty degrees. But Trend ended upbeing, if not the top player in
the tournament, one of the topthree at least. Yeah, he played

(34:29):
well, and unfortunately the team didn'tdo that great. But I think in
that setting now, I think Itold you guys, they play with their
high school team, which is different, so you have a bigger role than
you do on your AAU team, and you just have the ball in your
hands more. And I think hewas able to show a lot more of
the things that he can do versuswhat he does on his travel and AAU
team playing with all those other goodplayers. So it was a good weekend

(34:52):
for him, and recruitings starting topick up a little bit, which is
good. And so we have afew more events in July and then we'll
move on last thing real quick.Don I know the because we have you,
we got to use you. TheLaker fans would be upset. You
know who Dalton Connect is. Everybodytalked about him sliding what kind of that
seemed like that was a hell ofa pick for the Lakers at seventeen.

(35:13):
That's the other thing I forgot tosay about the draft too, Matt.
You know, things happen in theboard moves right right. There are so
many things that were supposed to happenlast and I'll tell you this. And
since it's after the draft, now, khalil Ware doesn't go fifteen if Zach
Edy was there. So when zachEdy went nine, I was like,
Okay, we got a chance. And so things like that come up,

(35:34):
and Connect just just got in afree fall because of how the board was
falling. There's no doubt he shouldhave been a top ten pick, maybe
even top seven. And this kid, I'm telling you, is going to
help the Lakers. He can reallyscore. He understands how to score.
He's older. You know. Hisjourney's really a good story. Started in
Northern Colorado, wound up at Tennesseeand you just watching him play because we

(35:59):
we thought we were going to gethim and we didn't at the last minute.
So I studied a lot of filmon him. He's not afraid,
and I think that's the biggest thingfor guys jumping from college to the NBA,
especially as high picks. A lotof guys can say they're not afraid,
but they kind of are. Iget the sense that this Connect kid
ain't afraid. And I don't thinkplaying with Lebron and Ad, playing in
LA, playing for the Lakers,I don't think any of that stuff is

(36:22):
going to affect him. Now,for all rookies, at the beginning,
it does. But I think oncehe gets into the season, this thing,
that this Laker thing in LA andthe whole thing would bother some players.
I get the sense that it's notgoing to bother Connect. I'm not
scared at all. McClaine, Thankyou, Don and congratulations on all your

(36:45):
success. We know it's a lotof hard work year round that goes into
last night and today. And congratson the great tournament for Trent. And
we'll talk to you next week. Thanks a lot, Don, Yep,
appreciate it, guys. Thanks allright. The stuff from Don McClain,
people pretty riled up, Matt,I can imagine riled up at us for

(37:06):
being a holes. No okay,I mean just to give you an idea,
what do you think the the slapthese across the street are saying.
Do you think they're really like celebrating? Can you believe this? Yeah?
This historic? This is like stapeCrypto. The crypt is going to be

(37:28):
on fire next year. That. Can you imagine the first time Bronni gets
put into a game with Lebron onthe court. I think Rodney and Vic
and Adam would have been celebrating similarlyhad they had they been on here.
You know what, You're right,I promise you, Yeah, you're right.
And you know, for those ofyou that wonder why we eschewed Vic
off the air and brought Don McClainon, I just want to read you

(37:50):
this text. It says I wasgoing to text the question. But the
great Don McClain answered all questions.Unlike us, Don basketball guy played it
right down the middle. Hey mightbe something in two years. Deal what
he did to develop them. Butwhat he did say first was that not

(38:10):
draft. He should not have beendrafted. He should have gone back.
Everybody knows that, and now here'sand he said the Lakers better address it
right away because it could create badfeelings. He said he probably not with
the connect guy because he likes hismentality. Very interesting stuff from Don.
We'll read some texts coming up nextand get more of a layer of the

(38:34):
land. We haven't f one reporttoday. We have a lot more going
on in great sports talk. Butthe Lakers have did it. You did
it. You did it, Youson of a bitch. You pick Bronnie
James. Bronnie James is a Laker. Something we have politics for repeatedly.

(38:57):
We want to see a historic fatherson duo for the first time in NBA
history. I love in our backyard. We're going to be at the
Summer League. We're already booking ourtravel to San Francisco. I love Brownie
James performance. Being in the serviceof the king man. That's where I
belong. It's the best. It'slike I belong in the belly of a
black wing bird. I think offlying. I think flying. Summer League

(39:24):
is going to be must see asMagic Johnson tweeted that, I mean,
we could just get into his tweetand the responses to his tweet that could
take Kate is like, Hey,let's go. That could take over the
entire show that people want to hearfrom Magic. You want me to read
you the tweet that somebody sent WhenAM five point seventy sent out a tweet
saying, live reaction to Bronnie Jamesbeing drafted, Petros some money right now?

(39:49):
This guy tweeted Petro's money. They'rethe biggest legal Lebron haters on the
planet. That is true. Whythe hell should we listen to them?
Bye? Congratulations to Bronni James onbeing drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers.
This is a historic moment because Lebronand Bronnie are the first father son duo

(40:14):
to play in the NBA. Itcontinues at the same time and on the
same team. Watch Lebron you suitup for the Lakers during Summer League in
Vegas will be musty TV. Firstcomment this ends any goat debates. Jordan

(40:37):
knew his kids couldn't play. Ihope Bron Senior doesn't re sign clown Face.
He is going to say that he'sgoing to be a free agent and
explores options. Rich Paul's going tosay that, and then we're gonna have

(40:57):
to go through those motions. Here'san individual that has an avatar that looks
like he is an older gentleman.I love the Lakers, they are not
close to a championship team, andthis seems like a clown show at this
point. Sad sad Emosi. Okay, Magic, you right now? What
average more than Brownie ever? Will? Well? He backed you in with

(41:21):
that big ass. Here is onewhere they've got the Huey brown Oh split
screen with Magic and it says, now Magic Johnson, this guy gave you
twenty points, eleven assists, manyof them spectacular, and eight boards.
In terms of using this app,we all know he struggles. Have said
that maybe a robot writes these postsfor him, which makes total sense.

(41:44):
There's been a request that we playNirvana's rape Me. I don't think that's
appropriate, but we will get intosome text doss. Yes brought to you
by yourself. We make it easy. I feel a turkey sandwich coming on.
Sucks to suck. Kates, Yeah, Kates, you lose that.

(42:07):
You thought that Bronni was gonna getpicked before that? How could you think
that anybody else in the NBA wouldwant this nightmare of a problem on their
hands for no reason? Oh,I don't know. I'm looking at all
the reaction. It looks like he'sbeloved by everybody. What greatest selection ever?
All the people I follow on whatare all these NBA people, these
media outlets. Oh, father andson together and there's pictures of them when

(42:28):
he were twenty years ago, whenhe was like a little kid. So
the greatest day ever? Who playstheir final NBA game? First, Lebron
James or Bronni James? Who playsthere? Finally? That's a great text
though, so Bronnie might never playit. That is a great text.

(42:49):
Though he might not ever touch thecourt, but of course Lebron's gonna make
sure he does. Oh yeah,he'll definitely get into a game. Hey,
Pete, not a Laker fan sincethe showtime days, So I really
don't care. I'm more disgusted withthe idiots that argue with me that Lebron
had nothing to do with it.And that's that's what's annoying. Whether you
care or not, it's tired. It's tiresome, and it's happened so much

(43:10):
today in our society. It's crazybecause you'd think now that we have so
much information that we'd be able todiscern, but we can't. There's too
much information, so constantly people areurinating in your face and telling you that
it's raining and it's not raining.I recognize that as Urine, he knewked
two traits that the Lakers had puttogether, one for Damar DeRozan and one

(43:35):
for Buddy Healed, and instead demandedthat they trade for Russell Westbrook. So
if he's able to do that andset a course negative course, by the
way, for the future, he'snot able to say, Hey, with
the fifty fifth pick, you're reallynot gonna take my son, like you're
really gonna take somebody else. Withthe fifty fifth pick in the draft,

(43:55):
You're gonna take Ronnie. That's theway this is going to go. It's
the fifty fifth pick. Just doit. We have Rob Polenka fresh sound
on the pick. Next season,NBA history could be made and NBA history
should be made in a Lakers uniform. So that's just sort of globally how
we feel about the draft moment. But more important than that, wow,

(44:17):
is to talk about Brianni James asa basketball player, because this is his
day and he was the one selectedwith the fifty fifth, just like the
other day was jj M. He'sfirst and foremost a person of high character,
and second, he is a youngman that works incredibly hard, and

(44:38):
those are the qualities we look forin drafting players and adding to our developmental
He's going to draft Sadie Kate's nextye get a great draft, work,
character, hard worker, Sadi Katesthose qualities to me in an our lunch
that we shared in the building justto get to know each other. Or
strawberry pancakes are clear ball strawberry pancakesover work. I think we've all seen

(45:04):
that lived out too. He's nota person that has ever taken shortcuts or
expected or been entitled about basketball. This whole thing is a shortcut work for
everything that he's gotten, including beingsold. That's not on him. Okay,
it's not fair to bron so Adamtar program. This is his coach
Reddick is already excited about putting adevelopment plan around him. Here's the development

(45:30):
plan to increase I don't see himfor two years. Basketball sent him to
the Chile. Turn him into theplayer that we think. That is my
suggest this franchise lebron We got aJJ's development plan. Here it says h
South Bay Lakers twenty twenty four twentyfive and all done South Bay Lakers twenty

(45:52):
twenty five twenty six. That's thedevelopment plan. You okay with that?
No? No? Why not?Okay? At that NB A history is
going to be made. There's onlyfive guys on the court. You can't
hide a six' to one shootingguard who can't handle, who does not

(46:14):
compromise the defense off the dribble, who's not a great shooter. Now some
say he is a great shooter.I look at the USC numbers and he
shot twenty seven percent from three andsixty six percent from the free throw line.
I don't know how you would labelthat guy a great shooter. We
wish Bronni's success, We do notwish his father great success. Shame nor

(46:39):
Rob Polinka, lifelong Laker fan.And I'm done. What an absolute embarrassment?
If Polinka wants to make history, like win seventy three games in a
season, Yeah, not be theonly team willing to draft Bronnie James and
put him on an NBA court inan NBA game, that's you know,

(47:00):
the Dodgers are going to make alike want to leap, like you're you're
kind of massaging history at that point. Yeah, well they're gonna have Kirsten
go out and pitch. Dodgers gonnamake history next year. Yeah, you
know we wanted to make history, make a history, go for it.
