did some real, real deep diggingyesterday, Matt. You had a lot
of second round names. Did Imispronounce nearly all of their names? Matt,
Yes, well you had some goodsecond round names, and you talked
about the apron. No one I'veever heard about the apron two apron.
I just thought it was for astage, And as the fifty fifth approached,
I was like, oh, Freeman'sstill there, that's my guy.
(02:04):
Yeah, you did say that hewas lighting up the inner mural courts.
I love what Enrique Freeman did. That's what you kept saying. I mean,
come on, you light up theinner mural circuit and next thing you
know, you're the shack of themac and the player of the year.
I thought about it before I wentto bed last night, that Enrique Freeman

fun in effect, it's the yeahwe're three fun fat fun fact. Well,
(05:15):
this did not apply to the secondround of the NBA Draft that took
a freaking eternity despite their supposed toonly being four minutes per pick. A
jiffy is an actual scientific description fora unit of time. It is the
time it takes for light to travelone centimeter in a vacuum. It is
(05:40):
thirty three point three five six fourpico seconds. So when somebody always says
I'll have it at a jiffy,it's always a lie or a terrible exactly,
a terrible exaggeration. No way,no possible way. Yeah. I
also resent the gimme two seconds, okay, And then I say give me
(06:00):
two seconds and the kids were likethey're one two. It's like, well,
wow, I'll start doing that backthen give me two seconds. Give
me two seconds right here, beback in a jiff. They won't.
Jiff's already happened seven million times.Write what I was saying that right when
you said it time for quick hits. Six to the MS, quick hits,
Come make it quick, y'all.Ye Dodgers twenty games over five hundred.

the Angels host the Detroit Tigers tonightat the Big A Well, the Big
News. It has taken over theshow up to this point. Brownie James,
in fact, as Vegas predicted, making him the favorite to be locked
into one particular draft position, fiftyfive to the Lakers, in fact,
(06:50):
did go fifty five to the Lakers. And I feel as though it's been
quite cathartic over the last three plushours. We've talked through it, we've
worked ourselves into a frenzy. We'vegone up, we've gone down, we've
gone down, we've gone up.I mean, the reality is when the
words came out of his mouth,it really it wasn't assault stunned us.
(07:11):
It really, it really stunned us. It stunned us, But we know
it was gonna happen. You know. It's not like you go out to
see the Hindenburg Land and it blowsup. You know, it's like,
we knew, I think it was. We knew it was gonna happen because
we were watching it in the moment. Seeing the way the room reacted after
they made the phone call, it'slike, oh, the hypocris. Yeah,
well that's what bothered me about theJJ Reddick press conference. Everybody just
(07:32):
acts like things are one way wheneverybody knows that they are another. It's
can you believe we got them?High five hug, deeply insulting to the
fan base, the league, andthe sport in general. But what a
narrative, What a beautiful narrative.Narrative of nepotism. And you know what,
nobody ever says anything to George Clooney. His head is Rosemary Clooney.
(07:53):
You guys never said anything to him. Well, I hate that nepotism too.
The Clippers select Minnesota guard Can Christie. That's Max Christie's brother, the
Laker. Max Christie cam out ofMinnesota. His brother ended up sliding,
So maybe a little nepotism there. They're like, hey, Max, we
(08:15):
heard you're looking for a roommate. We're gonna draft Cam and you guys can
live together and it's gonna be cool, and everybody loves an erection, So
no nepotism there. UCLA is aden Bona AI forty first to the Philadelphia

week. We've been communication constantly,Kerse said on a conference call with reporters,
so we expect all twelve guys tobe ready to row. So Kawhi
Leonard, not been available for theprevious three postseasons for the Clippers, despite
making somewhere around forty eight to fortyfive million bucks a year, going to
be ready to roll for Team USAover there in Paris. That's very American
(09:24):
of him. It's very patriotic ofhim. Way to go, Kawhi.
Well, everybody knows Kawhi's House ofMoreno Valley is just one big, giant
American flash, right. I meanit is beauty. It's like John Daly's
pants. Beautiful. And Matt abig setback, this huge. I mean,
I'm not too worried about the NFLand their lawyers. I'm pretty sure
that they can handle whatever their businessis, no matter what they have to
(09:45):
pay out. But this is anongoing issue here. They were ordered to
pay nearly five billion dollars in damagesfor violating antitrust law. It was a
class action lawsuit about Sunday Ticket, the Direct Team Sunday ticket package, which
has now been moved to YouTube.A Los Angeles jury voted unanimously that the
league colluded with DirecTV along with CBSand Fox, to drive the price up
(10:11):
of the premium product so people couldn'tafford to buy Sunday ticket and would therefore
be forced to watch the local broadcast, therefore making them more valuable for CBS
and Fox, so they would paythe billions to the league, as opposed
to having more houses with Sunday ticketin them two point four million residential subscribers.
More than forty eight thousand restaurants, bars, and other commercial establishments that
(10:35):
showed games through Sunday Ticket were partof the class action. A couple of
Mexican restaurants with bars as well. It's my kind, that's what I like.
I mean, I might go toone of those. Go to one
of those, read my paper.Wide. Receiver Randall Cobb, who's a
free agent, and his family escapeda fire at their Nashville, Tennessee home
(10:56):
this week after a Tesla charger caughtfire in their garage. Very scary Andre
Risen like moment for Randall Cobb.Well, that's not fair, that's true.
That was Urson, you know.Yeah, he wasn't cheated on Lisa
left eye Lopez, and she lithis bathroom on fire, burned the house
and burned the house down. Latershe died a car accidentally in Central or
(11:18):
South America. Randall Cobb, faultyTesla charger. What did his house hit?
Thankfully, the kids are fine. And he went in and saved the
dog by the way in a veryand a beautiful act of heroism, said,
got the wife and the three kidsout and then I believe his dog's
name is Louis. Was able togo in and save Louis as well.

Andy Murray hopes to play at Wimbledonafter having spinal surgery on twenty second SEMs
like that might limit your effectiveness onthe tennis court, But this is a
guy who's a subject of the Queenand King. So if he wants to
play at Wimbledon in the Paris Olympics, and if he can't after that,
(12:00):
he's likely to retire. And evenif he can after that, he's likely
to retire. So you're not gonnahave Andy Murray to kick around anymore.
Oh and he was kicked around hiswhole career. He was a subject of
the question and he finally ended upwinning. Though he won that Wimbledon,
he deserved it and for stopping andwe will had an F one report earlier
(12:20):
confirmed he will remain at Red Bullin twenty twenty five, ruling out a
switch to rivals Mercedes for stapping asa contract with the team Michael no,
oh, no, Michael, no, not no, Well he's up the
colo of the odd looking George RussellMatt but listen. For stopping was linked
this year with a move to Mercedes. It's not happening. The rumors were
(12:41):
forged amid tensions at Red Bull earlierthis season that stemmed from an investigation into
the very likable team principal at RedBull, Christian Horner on the Sabbateur was
Max's dad. You guys want tosee Joss sweet. You want to see

(13:05):
McClain on the NBA Draft and allof its nuances next day with the Petro
Some Money show on this Crunchy GroupThursday. Bet your Some Money AM five
to seventy LA Sports Live Everywhere onthe iHeartRadio app. The NBA Draft has
concluded a two day affair for thefirst time in its history. Second round
(13:26):
featured the fifty fifth overall pick,Brownie James is a Laker. Odd that
that is the headline of this draft, not the players selected one, or
three, or ten or even seventeento the Lakers. Dalton connect a hell
of a value at that spot, but the one selected number fifty five.
Talk about a man in motion. The great Don McClain ladies and gentlemen.
(13:50):
He knows the inner workings of thedraft, and he had a huge day
yesterday, another in a long listof successes. And the great thing about
Don's NBA Draft training success is thathe's helping somebody else and somebody else's family
realize their dream I think it isvery rewarding. I imagine it was very
(14:13):
rewarding for him yesterday and today, always every year. It is the one
and only Don McLain living score inthe history of UCLA. In the PAC
twelve A great friend of our show, you could see a statue at Lemon
Park and Semi Valley in the nextass he kisses will be the first and
he joins us on the Soka ToyotaDealer Celebrity hotline on Ami seventy LA Sports.
(14:35):
Let's cracking, Don, How areyou? You know? It's funny
you say that, Pete, becausethat is always the case about it being
rewarding and seeing families and these kidsrealize their dreams. But probably the most
rewarding I've ever had last night innineteen years of doing this, was a
kid khalil Ware that went fifteenth tothe heat. He's been there for three
(14:56):
years two years ago he came andI basically kicked him out out of the
gym. Body language was bad,no effort, seven foot kid that was
talented. Everybody always kissed his ass, so he never had to really buy
it and work. And so lastyear he came back and I just jumped
him every day for three weeks andwent back and had a really good year
at Indiana and came back here againand it was great for seven weeks and
(15:18):
ended up going fifteenth. The reasonI'm saying all that is if you had
told anybody on the planet three yearsago that that kid would be the fifteenth
pick in the draft, they wouldhave said, you're crazy. But we
stayed with it. I stayed ona lot of other people helped, but
it was unbelievably fulfilling last night fora lot of people, but me as
well to see him get picked wherehe did. Now, I gotta know
(15:41):
Don because as I was watching thedraft yesterday, I saw the Khalil pick
and he broke down like he wasreal emotional. I'm telling you, Matt,
it's it's You wouldn't believe it.Like we could do a documentary on
this if somebody had filmed it.All the times where you know where he
started here and the year he hadan Oregon up and down, not great.
(16:03):
But then last year was when hereally started to turn the corner.
And I'm telling you and when youwhen I say I am fed him every
day, I mfed him every singleday for three straight weeks and it finally
kind of got through to him.And I think he finally I think last
night for him, and I haven'ttalked to him yet, I will.
I think last night he finally ithit him because he's like, this is
(16:26):
what everybody has been trying to tellme that if I did what I'm supposed
to do, this is what wouldhappen. And it did. The one
and only Don McLain. Beyond thatstory, don Y, you had some
other guys picked up as well, and congratulations, right, I mean what
a week? Yeah. Yeah,we had a little bit of a smaller
class this year only because we hadthree guys go back to school. They
(16:48):
didn't stay in the draft, sowe only had four guys that were that
stayed in the draft. But ReedShepherd's one of the higher picks we've had
in the last few years. Hewent three to Houston and he's going to
be a really good player, Butthat wasn't surprising. We kind of knew
all along that if he didn't goto to Atlantet number one, he was
most likely going to to h Houstonat three. Donna, I hate to
(17:11):
jump all the way to pick fiftyfive, but let's just kind of knock
it out about what happened between thatand now let's get to let's just get
it out of the way. Everybodylistening. Once the Don McLain take about
I said, you know someone whoknows more about this than anyone we could
possibly talk to you, What doyou make of the Lakers bringing him in
and what do you think it's goingto look like? Is it going to
be straight G League for Brownni fora while? It's there's so many point
(17:33):
counterpoints to this. There really is, because on one, if you look
at it from just a pure basketballstandpoint and listen from everything I've seen and
heard in dealing with him a littlebit last year at USC, the kid
is a great kid, and heis in a really really tough spot here.
But his dad's one of the greatestof all time, and he wanted
him to be with the Lakers. So you feel like on some level,
(17:57):
maybe Lebron has earned the right forthis to happen. Some people would say
that. Other people would say, look, he wasn't good enough to get
drafted, because he's not. Heshould have went back to school. Everybody
knows it, but he didn't,and so he stayed in the draft,
and this is what happened. Ishe going to play for the Lakers next
year? I would guess no,but I have heard that his agent isn't
(18:21):
going to let him sign a twoway. So if he doesn't sign a
two way, that means he hasto be on the roster. So if
you're a Laker fan and you're saying, okay, we got in the small
window with Lebron still to potentially wina championship, what are we doing using
a roster spot for a player thatwe know is not going to play next
year? And so that's why Isay, there's so many different angles and
(18:42):
sides to this thing. But Ihate it for the kid because I think
the kid's a good kid, andI do think if he had stayed in
school for another year or two,we would be talking about him being a
way higher pick and being a rotationplayer in the NBA. Don none of
us have ever been in an NBAlocker room. Everybody's a professional and there
(19:03):
for their own reasons and there todo their own thing. But I mean,
this doesn't happen in a vacuum. How do those I mean, how
do other players, what's their perceptionof this, especially in that Laker locker
room. I would hope that thefront office, in JJ Reddick and Lebron
address it to the team and justsay, look, here's the deal,
guys, we wanted this to happen. Lebron has earned this. Lebron has
(19:27):
done a lot for the game ofbasketball, He's done a lot for the
NBA, for the Lakers, wewanted this to happen. He is not
going to get in the way ofour pursuit of a championship. And it's
not going to be awkward. There'snot going to be any favoritism, there's
not going to be anything. Wewanted him on the team, so we
put him on the team. Let'smove forward from here how we need to.
(19:48):
And I think if you do thatthat maybe it's not as awkward as
it seems today. The fact thatyou know, whatever you think of this
situation, it is a little bitawkward, and so I think if if
you address it, you can getrid of that right off the bat.
What like that you said it,DoD. I mean, there are so
many different things. It's an onionthat you can just keep peeling. And
(20:12):
the l because the other layer isfor people that don't know the business of
the NBA is it just changed andnow second round picks no longer get two
year contracts. You can give themup to four years. They just did
it last year with Maxwell Lewis. They gave them a four year, eight
million dollar deal. You can kindof work the numbers, however the heck
(20:32):
you want to work them. Theydon't count against the cap. It's why
they've become more valuable and people areinvesting more in second round picks and developing
players through the second round. Sowhat if what if Rich Paul doesn't like
the number? If they're like, nah, we're we're doing two team options
for Bronnie, we're giving you tooguaranteed, and then we're doing a team
option for three and for it's notgoing to be four years guaranteed. And
because the Lakers, and this isanother thing people may not know because they
(20:56):
have their own G League affiliate. They they can still sign him to a
full deal and just send him tothe G League, even though he counts
as a roster spot. Like, there's so many things that could piss Lebron
off about how they're trying to develophis son. It's got to be weird
on a ton of levels. ButI also think this, and we know
Lebron. Over the year, weknow what Lebron wanted is to say I'm
(21:21):
the only guy that's played with hisson in the history of the NBA.
That's what he wanted out of this. Now, I know he wants his
kid to do well. And here'sthe thing, Matt. You could look
at whatever contract he gets, whathowever you want to look at it.
But if you do believe, andI believe it, I think in two
or three years he will be anNBA player, not an All Star,
not maybe even a starter, buta good enough player to be on a
(21:44):
roster. So if you believe that, what is wrong with signing him to
a two year contract and sending himto the G League for a year or
possibly two. Yeah, I meanit certainly then fits and you're doing Lebron
a favor. You've used a draftpick on a future set, recognizing that
even though you're pursuing a championship witha forty year old and a fragile Anthony
Davis this year, that you canstill, you know, find room room
(22:08):
for that. I feel bad thatwe keep peppering you with all these these
bronnis. But here's what, here'sthe last thing I would say about it,
Matt. When's the last time thefifty fifth pick in the draft was
a rotation player right for any NBAteam? Well, that's that is a
developmental pick, that is a hopefullyin two or three years, this guy
will develop and we'll be able toput him on the on the on the
roster and he'll be part of ourteam and contribute. It's kind of what's
(22:30):
funny about this year? Right? So last year Trace Jackson Davis goes fifty
seven and ends up being a prettyimportant bench player for the Warriors. It's
very rare. It doesn't happen alot, but very rare. But what
about the guy that was picked rightafter him? Somehow, Kevin mccullor slides
the best player in college basketball forlike two months before he blew his knee
out. I don't know why.He slid and kind of what you think
(22:52):
of his prospects as a potential NBAplayer, It's totally different. Right,
five years at Texas Tech and Kansasand injury on top of it. Those
two may be connected. One inPhoenix, one in LA. Like,
what did you think about him beingavailable there and a guy that could come
and help right away despite being alate second round pick. Well, that's
up to the evaluation. I didn'tI didn't watch mccolors enough. He wasn't
(23:15):
with us, so I can't reallyspeak to whether or not he can contribute
right away or not. But Iget your point, Matt, And now,
look, this draft thing is hard. You don't know how much time
I spend on the phone with theseguys. And I spent more time on
the phone about Khalil Whare than Ihave for any other player in nineteen years.
And I would go through everything we'vebeen through the last three years,
(23:37):
kind of what I just told you, guys. But at the end of
the conversation, it's always but younever know, you never know, you
don't know. That's why second roundpicks become all stars. That's why first
round picks become bus You just don'tknow a lot of its situation. A
lot of it's what's inside these players. A lot of it just comes down
to luck and injuries in front ofyou. You get the opportunity. There's
(24:00):
so many different things that happen. It's such an inexact science that you really
can't make a full blown argument aboutany pick that anybody makes. Great Don
McClain, Thank you, Don,and congratulations on all your success. We
know it's a lot of hard workyear round that goes into last night and
today, and congrats on the greattournament for Trent, and we'll talk to
(24:23):
you next week. Thanks a lotdone. We cannot overstate the value of
Don McClain on this show for interviews, exactly like that great stuff about a
crazy day in LA Sports maybe LASports history for what it means. We'll
