did you work to get Bronnie tocome back? Real hard? Huh much?
He's the sweet jam Itto ns boyOcha Barry from Barry's Tickets. He
loves Browny, Jef Marito, seasoning, Loan Mark, and you're Southern California
(04:09):
Toyota dealers. I reached out toCowherd. He says that west of Sepulveda
or east of it's right by theBEMO Stadium. Trust me, oh,
right off the one ten, rightout the four O file. All right,
Matt, it's time with the topstory of the day, top story
of it. Why not keep thething going? Lebron James had three names.
(04:32):
I like how you said like youwere gonna do something. I was
gonna start with Paul George and Iwas like, you know what, I'm
not make it stuff. That's notthe big story for us. I can't
get that may be the headline forthe woochbomb types, but for us,
let's start with this Lebron James, courtesy of his proxy, and by proxy
(04:56):
I mean like either Brian Wyndhorse orOoh or Shelbourne or McManamon or Shammers,
one of them dudes, via RichPaul leaked that Lebron James would be willing
to take a significant pay cut whereone of these three players to sign with
(05:18):
the Lakers. In his quest where'sthe quote, here's the quote from Lebron.
A bunch of reporters just put ita oh oh, so there's not
a quote. No, there's not. Oh no, there's not. Well,
but his agent was quoted. Hisagent was quoted as saying this it's
(05:38):
Rich Paul. Is that okay? That's all right. No, listen,
I'm not in the Hall of Fame, but I'm just thank you to Christian.
Lebron reportedly had three names, accordingto a reporter who said, according
to Rich Paul, that he wouldbe willing to take a significant cut where
(05:58):
the three names me boy, ClayThompson, Carpool to get it to the
game, Clay run, get out, don't even take the call. Clay
Thompson was one, James Harden wastoo, and just to make sure it
(06:24):
really set in his hey, thisis not pie in the sky. Okay,
there's some some reality to this.Jonas Valentiunis was on that list as
well. Hey valentun is a goodplayer, dude, Yeah, you watch
a great player. You watch yourmouth. A great player got one of
the great beards in the NBA aswell. He'll he'll valent in your nuts
(06:46):
if you talk too much. Asreportedly, Lebron reached out to Clay,
and Clay surreptitiously had tied his oldman Michael in on the call so he
could hear what the set. WhenLebron hung up, Michael went, don't
believe a word. Don't blame youforever in Clay, Gordon Dallas, don't
(07:13):
du it ask Kyrie. Clay's familyis here in La Clay grew up practicing
and shooting around before and after gain. If Clay doesn't want to be a
Laker, who nobody wants to bea Laker. Kobe was a friend and
a mentor to Clay. Michael worksfor the team, has incredible insight on
(07:33):
what he believes their future might bemoving forward. He's already made two hundred
and sixty six million dollars in hiscareer. Julie and I have seen the
elty portion of it too. Wemoved to Corona del Mar. Bye house
next to us claim we were therebefore and he said no thanks, He
(07:58):
said, nah, Now I getPaul George leaving the Clippers for an extra
sixty million dollars. I mean it'ssixty million dollars, but three years fifty
million from the Mavericks as opposed tothree years forty four million from the Lakers.
Talking about six or seven million bucks, it's still a considerable sum of
(08:20):
money. But you could give itto you a bread at trace this seven
million, that's not fear. Butyou're right. I heard what you said
about trees. I didn't mean it. You swing as many wools, but
like a sponge in the sea.Listen, this is just straight. Clay
(08:43):
is not interested in playing with LebronJames. He is not interested in playing
for JJ Reddick. The second Isaw this story that Lebron wants to take
a pay cod and they floated outanother balloon, I was like, who
wants to play with Lebron? Whowants to be part of it? If
you get drafted, that's one thing. But we're gonna find out, aren't
we. James Harden got a monsternumber, thirty five million per year two
(09:05):
year seventy. Lakers couldn't touch that, so he was off the table from
jump and then you got Yonis Valentiunisthirty two year old center, likely getting
his last substantial deal in ten millionyears. A substantial deal he uh.
He came up in Toronto from thedregs to help building the Raptors into a
(09:26):
championship team in eighteen nineteen. Therethe Kawhi led team. He then left
for Memphis taking a big check nothing. Then he went to the Pels,
big check nothing, And with Lebronreaching out, Hey, Yonas, why
don't you bring those twelve points andnine rebounds out here to LA You're perfect
(09:50):
exactly And this is what the proxiesof the proxy shared that Yonas would be
a perfect exactly what they need backup to Anthony Davis in a chase for
the championship. And what did Yonisdo three years thirty million dollars from a
(10:13):
team that went fifteen and sixty sevenlast year fifteen and sixty seven. You're
telling me that Valentun didn't want togo to Valentchun. He didn't want to
do it. Is that what you'resaying to me? There's two options,
Valentun. You want to chew itup over here with Lebron James and the
(10:37):
Lakers and where that historic purple andgold, the Angels, Yeah you're superstar
hob nobbin with Miley Cyrus and PaulRudd, or okay, or the fifteen
(10:58):
and six, because I would assumethe Lakes would have gladly matched ten million
bucks a year. It's a walkingdouble double or ten million year out in
the district with all those K Streetlobbyists, couple high paid hookers. An
election year, it's hot over there. This year it's an election year.
(11:20):
He'd rather go to the whiz fifteenand sixty seven, A guy that's tasted
the sweet juice of championship, sono one wants to play it play with
I mean, I don't think it'sa coincidence. If you are a very
good player, maybe like Clay,a former superstar, or someone that just
played a very specific role at avery high level throughout your career, I
(11:43):
can understand why you would not putyourself in Los Angeles these next few years.
It's a no win situation. LebronDesperation is a stinky cologne, Lebron
and you stink. He is desperateto stay relevant, to get another championship.
He needs one more. For allthe goat talk, I'm chasing ghosts,
(12:07):
and once he steps away from thegame, he knows it's gonna start
tilting away from him because four championships, it ain't six, it ain't five,
It ain't the four that Tim Duncanhas chased it down to Miami with
a guy that was a first teamAll nbare and brought the best stretch for
from the league with you. Tollydid was run around trying to create all
(12:28):
these super teams and manipulate all thesethings. He's gonna be talk fired and
after all these years, it's becomesomething that people just aren't into anymore.
Not into it, not into itbecause playoff losses where Lebron misses a wide
open three pointer that would have giventhe Lakers a winning game in Denver coming
back with a split instead turn intocan you believe the referees made that bad
(12:50):
call at the seven minute mark ofthe third quarter? That was absolutely unacceptable?
What the hell was Darvin Ham doingwith that timeout pattern? That was
terrible? Well, no, thethey were down one and he missed a
wide open three with seven seconds left. That's why they lost. And nobody
wants to be part of that.If you're Klay Thompson, who's put up
two of the most incredible playoff performancesin the history of the NBA postseason.
(13:11):
You want to subject yourself and yourlegacy one of the great shooters the game
has ever seen, one half ofthe greatest shooting backcourt in NBA history.
You want to be part of this. Going to come and be part of
Lebron James And people can say we'rebeating a dead horse here, but there
is no denying what this looks likefrom the outside, that Lebron runs everything.
(13:33):
And if he decides that you're nolonger valuable to him, you just
sign a three year deal. He'sgonna get your ass traded to Utah,
Orlando or freaking Memphis or Charlotte, and that's where you're gonna spend the final
two years of your career. AndI'm sure Clay was like, hell no,
nothing to do with that. It'sone thing for us in the media
(13:54):
to belly ache or to lament thefall of the Lakers front office and seating
power to a forty year old mercenarywho ran rough shot over Cleveland. Could
not do it in Miami because theyhad a spine with pat Riley. But
the Lakers they're going to fail miserablythis offseason because JJ Reddick and Bronni James
(14:16):
are here and everybody sees what's goingon. Dudes leave that he doesn't want
and he brings in what he decidesis good for him and him alone.
I have no idea what Valentchunis sawon the Wizard's offer, but I would
assume that is a perfect player thatwould be flattered by the idea, that
would want to come and maybe competein a team that two years ago came
(14:37):
off the greatest sweep, most competitivesweep in the history of the NBA Finals,
and another first round series or inthe history of the conference finals.
Then another first round series that wasa lot closer than the four to one
result suggested, and he turned itdown for a team that was fifteen and
sixty seven. So good luck toLebron. I guess you're not going to
(14:58):
take your p cut now because oneof those three names is not coming.
It would seem like, if youwere willing to take a pay cut,
maybe next year is the year theguy ends up joining you, and you
just take the pay cut anyway,Like you know, there's always another chance
that next year one of these guyswill be available, so why not take
the pay cut when he's a yearolder, right after his son is really
festered in the G League, andevery dude that played in Austin p has
(15:20):
hung their putto on him somewhere inmiddle of the country, like, I
don't understand why it had to befor one of these three players. And
other than that, Nope, guysdidn't get him three years, one hundred
and sixty two million. Now we'rematched out. You're over the apron.
You can't sign anybody on the fullmid level. Sorry, you had your
chance, you lost. Valentchun hastook the Wizard's offer. Well, this
has been well handled, I thinkso. I think the Lakers have really
(15:45):
found their way into free agency ina manner in which we suspected they would
be very successful with all this youngblood and their coaching staff and the arrival
of Brownie James and all the promisethat he brings with him oh so much.
Oh yeah, and Lebron getting readyto turn forth great time. Everywhere
I went all weekend, you know, there three or four people ask me
(16:06):
about Brownie and then there was alwayslike somebody's wife, Like, well,
I think it's great. That's greatfor you. Any good father would do
that. So I'm a bad dad. Yes, all right, first five
bad dad. We'll be back withmore great sports talk. Petro somebody on
seven Sports. We have a quickcollege football whip around coming up the Petro
(16:29):
some money EUM five seventy LA SportsLive Everywhere on the iHeartRadio app David Mestable
Georgie's on the next segment talking Dodgerbaseball and Don McClain on the departure of
Paul George, the Lakers striking outin free agency, and all things round
ball related. Right around six twentypm. All right, Matt, we
have been enjoying a great day ingreat sports talk, great sports talk.
(16:53):
But don't forget if you have beenresentful of our Orange County locations or great
sports talks, great summer to talk, and you feel like you've been asked
out of having a chance to wina Westinghouse or gift cards or Dodger tickets
or something like that. Sure well, we are coming to the beautiful city
(17:14):
of El Segundo, California, aweek from Friday. This will be our
third appearance, our third appearance atthe El Segundo rock and Bruge. So
the reason we keep going back.We even talked to the guy from Cheap
Trick from the Elsa Rick Nielsen.Yet and Quinn joined us last year.
(17:38):
McK cronin visited us. That wasvery exciting. Chris Taylor, the guy
with the feather, Oh, theboxer. No, the guy with the
feather. Wasn't he a former boxer? I don't know. I think he
was a farmer. He's a guywith a feather in his guy, he's
got the crazy cap with a feather, and I was making fun of him.
Well, that would explain I wasa boxer, you know. I
was like, Ohm, I gonnamake funny. I would explain the punch
(18:00):
Jared stole, stolen, stole. It was also the place where the stringy
haired listener fought Dave Wiese about theChris Taylor autographs. That's exactly right,
That's exactly right. Stringy hair don'tcare so way. She brought us each
a couple cans of Vanda Camp's porkand beans. Hey, the glasshammer she
(18:23):
brought from when my car flies intoa lake though, I keep that with
me. The stringy haired lady mighthave saved my life. One day we'll
see it's possible. So anyway,we'll be out there and we look forward
to seeing you. The third stopof the twenty twenty fourth Summer Tour Friday,
July nineteenth, until the hammer shuttersfrom Rocket Person Else eleven. Ah,
you were counting on me to saveyour life. It works. You
(18:45):
saw us tested on all those pintglasses. Man. All right, Matt,
it's time for a quick college footballwhip around for the people today.
The sport is getting set to goin an odd as ever year. Next
week I will be traveling to LasVegas to check with my Mountain West and
(19:07):
the PAC two. I've been invitedto a PAC two Hawk toua Pack two
dinner at the Bellagio So Oregon Statein Washington State are hosting an event.
They're piggybacking the Mountain West going overto another hotel, and they sent me
an email like, hey, bythe bye, we heard you were in
(19:32):
town for the Mountain West. Whynot can come on over to the Bellaggio
and Haktua with the pack too,And I was like, Okay, will
Nurill be there? Yeah? CanJohnny Kat's beying Wilder. That's it you're
going to be there. Those threegonna be great. I don't know what
it's going to be like Matt, but I will invited Foster, but he's
(19:52):
retired. Well. Last year,as you know, Matt, I was
at the last supper of the PACtwelve yes at the the Ion Stadium in
Vegas, and that was very awkward. Two days later, the conference literally
disintegrated. We were all locked init spit right out of Vega. So
after that, then I have theFox Seminar the week after, which is
(20:15):
always wild, right before our ElSegundo Rock and Bruce tour event that we
just talked about. But the PACtwelve network one of the most mismanaged things
in the history of modern college sports. Last night or over the weekend period
went dark. Now many of youwant to make the tree falling in the
forest type of analogy because you're sayingit was never not dark in my house,
(20:42):
and that is ultimately their problem. To have a TV network that is
not available in one hundred percent ofyour own regional footprint is a recipe for
disaster. But we discussed that fora long time. When I had that
hotel room in Colorado and got packedtwelve Rocky Mountain. Oh, come on,
that was freaking awesome. It's likewhen the spectro vision porn comes in
(21:04):
for free. It just couldn't believeyour accents. This room's got HBO.
They used to put it on thesign. It is sad uh our b
ff. Don mcclan was by far, and it's not even close. By
far their greatest analyst and asset. But there were other good people that worked
(21:27):
there, for sure, Nick Aliotti, Roxy Bernstein, JB. Long,
you know, Ashley Adamson. Butit went dark, oh, Ted Robinson.
I'm holding my eyes up, yes, and I've got in mind spread
as wide as possible, not aswide as mine because I'm using my fingers
fingers clockwork orange, Ted Robinson. But it went dark for some it was
(21:53):
always dark. I think I gotit for one year of my life.
As we discussed, it's tough deal. They should have never tried to do
it themselves, Mattino. They shouldhave partnered. There was a lot of
people that wanted to partner. Theyhad plenty of chances. We've beat this
topic to death. It's like adrowning person that somebody threw like four hundred
(22:19):
life raps too, and they justcould not like kept swimming away from them.
So that brings us to the nextlayer of the story. All over
the country, Matt, the guythat accidentally painted chefs instead of chiefs is
everywhere on fields and courts all overthe country. The Big twelve is being
(22:45):
painted in Arizona, in Tucson, and in beautiful Tempee, Utah is getting
a big twelve thing. You talk, Big ten you tak is being painted
right down the street at the RoseBowl, Matt, can you believe it?
Poly Pavilion, the Galen Center, the USC Coliseum. You don't fight
(23:12):
a fight all you dub Home ofthe Dogs, sailgating, a big,
big ten logo going right there,Oregon in one of the weirdest moves of
all time. Stanford and COLCC logosout there. They're getting acc logos painted
everywhere. Well I forgot about that. That is terrible. I was with
(23:33):
my cousin over the weekend and hisdaughter's recruit, a big recruit, and
he was like, I don't wanther to go to Washington in the Big
ten, taking all those long trips. I'd rather do the Big twelve.
I was like, you know,Cincinnati and u se f are in the
Big twelve. Now Virginia a shorthop skipping a jump. West Virginia has
been rocking in the Big twelve foryears. Geez uh and uh o.
(23:56):
You and Texas are all sending outtheir twat today with the SEC logo everywhere,
and they're righting you know what they'rewriting. It just means more,
It just means don't mean anything allthose other years that Oklahoma and Texas have
been playing it. You can literallysee a body of water that feeds into
the Pacific Ocean on campus at coland the Atlantic Coast Conference will be painted
(24:19):
on their field. Literally the oppositecoast can be witnessed from their campus.
What has less to do with theAtlantic Coast? SMU there or COW I
mean, at least it's on acoast. I mean SMU. It's just
thence into the Gulf, which couldwrap around Dallas, Florida. Oh,
(24:41):
SMU, that's right, that's notHouston. I thought SMU was Houston,
Dallas. I thought TCU was Dallas. It is, Well, you know
what's in Houston, Houston. Youknow what Prairie View and Rice, Yes,
oh yeah, Praiview A and mIf you want a piece of that
mat if you want to go tothe swack, well, I guess it's
(25:03):
really no difference than putting Colorado inthe Pac twelve. Well, hey,
hey, hey, they're in theMountain time zone. I'm just saying Colorado
headed to the Big twelve back wherethey were. But I would not get
too used to this as we getmore and more away from the amateur model,
where the fake amateur model of collegefootball fake amateur, and get closer
(25:26):
and closer to a real super league. Who's the real boys? Now?
Will that super league involve my friendsat Washington State and Oregon State at the
Bolagio? Come have a drink withthe Pac two. It's gonna be so
depressive the light. It's not goingto be depressing. Hey, I'm here
for the for the event. Whatevent? I'm running a little late.
(25:51):
I know there's a reservation might beunder Do you know how many in the
party? I don't now. Therewere three people that came in a minute
ago. One was bald, onewas disheveled and old. So it's not
a big event. Well another arethree or four people. I can imagine
it like it's that meeting with MoeGreen the in Godfather, where they have
the band, and I'm you know, I don't get sending these ladies out
(26:12):
of here. Come on, we'rehaving a good time. It's the back
two. Come on, look around. I don't buy you out. You
buy me out, you don't come. I believe there was a party of
two that came in a moment ago. Perhaps that's what you're looking for.
You don't come to the pack tooand talk to George cliff Cuff like that
last story. Thwack. Congratulations toUtah lifer Morgan Scally, Utah defensive coordinator,
(26:37):
a great coach and guy who hasbeen named the heir apparent, the
coach in waiting to Kyle Whittingham forthe Utes. Morgan's been a DC there
for quite some time. It's beencoaching there since O six U Tah.
He played there at a Highland highUtah Salt Lake City. He's one of
the more impressive people I've come around, and a cross in my days.
(27:00):
And if Kyle Whitningham is salty scaleykind of balances that out does a great
job with the young people. Socongratulations. There is no set goodbye day
that dude that took over for DeanSmith, that old ass guy, like
thirty years you are going to bethe next coation I took over, and
it's like this guy's almost dead.Scally's only forty four. It's okay.
(27:23):
We don't know when Winningham is goingto retire, but he fostered him into
the Mountain West from the Pac twelve. One of the great coaches in Western
United States history, and he willfoster them into the Big twelve and probably
go away after this year. Socongratulations to Morgan Scali Utah. We'll be
back with more great sports talk.David vassa great sports talk off night Dodger
Talk at seven o'clock will join usat the very next segment with Dodger News.
(27:49):
A sad weekend in San Francisco, petros in Money AM five seventy LA.
Sports are alive everywhere on the iHeartRadioapp. At is a Model Monday
on PMS. Modello reminds you thatit is not Alta if it is not
made with Modello. Modelo is areport for those with a fighting spirit.
(28:10):
Modello the mark of a fighter, and you know who fights and fights and
fights fights to get a good tableat a fine restaurant on a day off
in San Francisco, the one andonly David Vasse. Maybe I can win
is this it is not his firstbaseball game. He's on the Spectrum,
he's on MLB Network, and he'sour guy here on the radio, the
(28:30):
home of the Dodgers with an insidelook at the Dodgers. This is the
Vass Report with David Vasse, theGreat David Vase at the real Underscore DV
on the Southern California Toyo to Dealercelebrity Hotline. Dodgers Home from San Francisco
and Dave. I couldn't help butthink when I watched him drop that game
(28:53):
yesterday by a lot and of courselose the series in San Francisco, sell
out crowds and everybody having a goodtime. It made me think about when
they lost to Cincinnati on the roadand you said how they left that area
an angry team, a pissed offteam, a team with a pissed off
attitude. Did they have a pissedoff attitude after dropping this series, Dave?
(29:15):
Or was it a different vibe?Yeah, you know, it's weird.
Petros. I don't think a gamelike that should be okay, even
with the circumstances of really the bullpenbeing super thin. But the lineup they
put out there obviously was a littlebit different. No Miguel Rojas. He
had Key k Hernandez and Chris Tayloron the left side, and they did
(29:37):
their job. But it was unfortunatethat James Paxton allowed that game to get
away, and I guess Dave Robertsreally did not have anybody to go to
that early in the game, soonce it got to five nothing, six
nothing, it really was tough forDave Roberts really to do much of anything.
But look, the Dodgers are onlythree games above five hundred in their
(30:02):
last thirty five games. I don'tknow what that says about this division except
the fact that a lot of theseteams obviously are not on the same level
as the Dodgers. But man, three games over five hundred over the last
thirty five. That can't sit wellwith anybody on that team. What is
it, Dave? Is it injuries? Is it the lack of bats?
(30:26):
I mean, obviously in this seriesover the weekend, starting pitching was not
great at all. Is it justsomething different every game? Why they're they're
hovering right around just mediocrity? Yeah, you could point to Mookie Betts being
out since Father's Day or at theday after Father's Day. But that's only
what ten to fifteen games sample size. It's I really don't understand what it
(30:49):
is. Really. It feels likethe Dodgers are keeping the big picture in
mind more even going back thirty fivegames, because of the large league they
have in the division and with theexpanded postseason, you don't really get rewarded
for winning your division that much morehaving those five days off. So it
(31:10):
feels like the Dodgers are adapting towhat Major League Baseball has made a priority,
and that's just getting in the danceand being ready for October more so
than rewarding division winners. You mentionedRojas and that he did not play.
Do you get the sense, Dave, that this is someone, despite his
(31:30):
age and how they signed him tobe used, that just should simply be
out there every single day. Now, I feel like they have to do
this, And Dave Roberts said thatmoving forward when there are not as many
days off as they've had in thelast couple of weeks, that in this
last week it's going to be threeon one off for Miguel Rojas. He
(31:51):
is thirty five going on thirty six. They have to keep him. They
have to keep him upright through October. And it feel like when Mookie Betts
does return, there's a very goodchance that Miguel Rojas now is a shortstop
and Mookie Betts is the second basement, which changes the Dodgers priorities. As
(32:13):
we get closer to that trade deadlineat the end of this month, twenty
nine days from today, it isthe trade deadline. And I know there's
been a lot of talk about boBashett, but because of Miguel Rojas not
only being his usual self on defense, his bat has been much better than
what it was last year and opsclose to eight hundred. Maybe the Dodgers'
(32:37):
priorities now have shifted to adding abat to the outfield and now adding a
starting pitcher. As we get closerto July thirtieth, the Great David Vass
is our guest. He's got DodgerTalk tonight. Eric Ganye going to be
his guest. The Canadian is goingto be honored. Gannie coming. It's
(32:57):
not like he's not coming back intothe fold. He was ever out of
the fold, but Ganne coming around, and they're honoring Ganye and comes from
a different ownership time, so that'scool, right, Yeah, you're right,
Petrose. I feel like a lotof time has passed now where this
Dodger ownership feels comfortable to bringing himback and him being honored. He was
(33:19):
always a fan favorite. They aregoing to celebrate his twentieth anniversary of securing
his eighty fourth consecutive save July third, two days from now, so we're
going to have Ganie on to talkabout that. And also this ownership group
has been great about bringing back theold players. They're going to have a
big alumni weekend in August, andGanye will be part of that as well.
(33:43):
Dave, when you mentioned the tradedeadline, how active do you expect
it to be? Is it goingto be a ton of teams fighting for
a couple players. I mean, you look at the National League and I
mean you really only have two teamsthat are out of it when it comes
to the wild card. You couldtotally see the Cubs that are all the
way down five games back of thatfinal wildcard spot, and everybody above them
(34:04):
is kind of still being in themix here, right, And you have
to take into account how many teams. Do you have to leap frog when
you're only quote only five games back. You need a lot of things to
go your way to leap frog thatmany teams. And my understanding is even
the Giants and Diamondbacks they're hoping toget starting pitching back to make a push
(34:28):
in the second half of the season. But if after the All Star break
some of these teams fall further backor just tread water where there's still three
or four games under five hundred, they may become sellers. So right now,
the teams you're looking at, theirmentality and their vision on the rest
of their season is going to changebetween now and July thirtieth. And basically
(34:52):
that's why you know, for thosethat ask why aren't trades being made right
now, well, I guess youcan make a trade with the White Sox
or the or the Angels. Butoutside of those three teams and the Rockies
included, these other teams are waitingto see how their teams perform as they
get closer to July thirtieth. It'sconceivable even the Giants are sellers. Help
(35:15):
us out with a little perspective here, Dave. I mean, I remember
when Don Martin got a phone bankgoing with Pantone and they got Justin Turner
into the All Star Game. Wewere discussing that earlier. Is it just
not that big of a deal thisyear? Are we supposed to make a
big deal of it? Do you? Does it not mean as much as
(35:37):
it used to to try to getthese guys in? Is it a foregone
conclusion? Do we care? Well? Here's my issue, the way that
Major League Baseball changed the voting system. It's just so complicated to understand all
these different deadline dates. Like I'mnot sure how you, for example,
(35:57):
how many of you realized that lastThursday day was the deadline to try to
have the first phase of players tobe in the top two or three,
huh, to move on to bea starter. So I just feel like,
again, major League Baseball got inits own way and made it more
complicated than anybody really wants to puteffort into understand. Just have it the
(36:20):
same way. It just I thinkthat's what kind of muddied the waters a
little bit. And also, Imean Mookie Betts being hurt kind of took
some wind out of the sails. And we all know Otani is going to
be the DH but it feels likeDodger fans have not gotten behind Taoscar Hernandez
like they probably should have, consideringhe has the most home runs and RBIs
(36:45):
of any National League outfielder. Well, the Dodgers have someone in the home
run Derby. I think Taoscar Hernandezor show Hey Otani are the two candidates.
Right. Do you think either ofthem will do it? I don't
believe Otani will. Just what Iwas gathering in Chicago from what he said
and what Dave Roberts said about justhim rehabbing the elbow that being a factor,
(37:07):
because I got a lot of playersthat participate in the derby talk about
how much fatigue there is trying toswing the bat that many times to hit
home runs, and obviously that couldcompromise his elbow coming off and still rehabbing.
Tommy John So, I feel likeOtani would love to do it if
(37:28):
the circumstances were different. And thatleaves ta Oscar Hernandez, who, like
I just said, leads the NationalLeague outfielders and home runs. That seems
to be a fun loving type ofguy that would say yes and if invited,
I mean the home Run Derby destroyedJock Peterson's whole career, all right,
Dave, only Bobby Abrady was describedBobby, but he got the wave
(37:52):
of the flag and that was agreat moment. Dave, have a great
show tonight with Eric Ganne and wewill talk to you tomorrow. Welcome home,
all right, Thank you guys,David, ladies and gentlemen. On
