at AM five seven LA Sports withthe ability to really go anywhere and do
anything, streaming everywhere with the iHeartRadioapp hosted by Bad Money Smash check out
the fit and Petros Papadakas. That'swhat we like to hear. Here they

(00:21):
are on your home of the LaDodgers in Think and down the Green,
petrosin Money, Drosin Money, RosinMoney Rosney. All right, Bill,
I put these together for you. Here we go. Put it before them
briefly so they will read it clearly, so they will appreciate it, picturesquely

(00:46):
so they will remember it, andabove all accurately so they will be guided
by its light. I love thatgong it out Vic. The great Joseph
Pulitzer said that about the newspapers,So I share that was Joe Pulitzer.
I share that with you, Bill, Bill plashki in today p is out.

(01:07):
He is out in Las Vegas fora trio of meetings. One Big
twelve has expanded in the past year. Of course, a number of Pac
twelve teams migrated over there. TheArizona's, the Utah Colorado all in the
Big twelve two, the PAC two. He's going to that. He will
have an exclusive did you get invitedto the Bellage dinner with the pack down?

(01:32):
He will be meeting with the Backtwo dinner at the Bellagio of Oregon
State and Washington States. They stillhave two years two years left of PAC
twelve relevance and viability before the charterofficially expires. They still exist. They
are having Las Vegas meetings. Uh. And he will have dinner at the
Bellagio tonight and then or maybe tomorrow. And then is there a third case?

(01:56):
Is the Mountain West is out thereexactly right? Is there a pectic?
I'm so dumb? Is there aPetwell Championship? It's a great question.
I believe it's all kind of upin the air. Right. You
would assume, like, what ifthey just play each other ten times a
year? And That's what I woulddo. I'm not kidding. I would
absolutely do it as just a giantmiddle finger to the teams that left us
hanging. I would play as eachother each week home and make all the

(02:19):
money home. Yeah, just homeand homes. Here's the championship game.
You know, it's still the championshipgame in the eighth week of the season,
in first round, in the ninesecond round of the playoffs on the
tenth tremendous. Yeah, so yeah. I think basically they're Mountain West team.
The majority of their schedules will beMountain West, but for the sake
of finances at least. And thereare some rumors out there, and I

(02:42):
hope them to be true that thePAC twelve, because it is it is
not defunct. It may appear asthough it is, but because it's not
the Funk, that there may bean opportunity for them to pull some teams
in reform and operate under the bannerof the pack. I realized it wasn't
the Funk. I didn't know that. Yes, So, I think just
financially, charter wise, media rightswise, they still have two years maybe

(03:07):
this year and next year, Ibelieve, is what they have left the
money that will be shared with them. Do you think Lincoln Riley has having
second thoughts about going to the Bigten right about now? Well, I
think once he shows up and facesthe offensive and defensive lines of Michigan and
Ohio State and Penn State, andyou know, I even even some of
the you know, not top tierMichigan, Ohio State, Penn States.

(03:29):
But when you just get to thatnext year, Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska,
Minnesota, you are going to beplaying a completely different brand of football
and we'll see how it goes. You know, it'll be interesting. Paul
Feinebaum, the great fo football analysts, said that he thinks Lincol's getting fired
this year. There's no chance,no, no chance. I don't I

(03:49):
don't see what, but I dosee him had a tough year with no
quarterback. Right well, I seehim walking away after this year. It's
possible, I think you because he'llhe's still a value. You will come
out. Yes, there's no doubtabout it. And then they can just
sell it as hey, he tooka job and he had a Heisman Trophy
winner, he's a quarterback guru, and USC sold him out by going to

(04:10):
the Big ten and playing a brandof football that is not what he specializes
in. Bring him back to theBig twelve, bring him into the Heck,
I would imagine there'd be SEC teamsthat would be willing to take a
shot on Lincoln Riley just because ofthe recruiting ability. And I mean the
guys. The guy's resume with quarterbacksis impeccable. It's impeccable. Why isn't

(04:31):
an NFL coach in Canada anymore?I think I think in terms of college
coaches, you really have to separate. I think there's got to be Harba's
not a college coach. Harba's justa football coach. You know, He's
successful everywhere he's been, and he'sa former NFL player, you know.
So I think, why didn't itwork for Nick Saban? I mean,

(04:53):
who knows? Who knows if theDolphins medical team signs off on Drew Brees
and he gets to bring in DrewBrees instead of Dante Culpepper when he's in
Miami, that it doesn't work. They nick Saban's legacy at Alabama has never
set because it worked in Miami. But I do know a couple of people
that were on I worked with acouple of people that were with him in
Miami, and they did say thatit was not good, that it was

(05:15):
not run as many of the veteransexpected an NFL operation to be run,
That it was run very collegiately, and that doesn't fly when you got guys
making millions of day, and youusually Lincoln had a saying problem. I
don't know. I mean, Iyou know, that's the that's the trick,
right, And and Petro's obviously somuch better weighing in on this.
But from what I've experienced, youknow, the schematic guys, the play

(05:41):
callers. You know, when Ithink of Lincoln Riley, I don't think
of a leader of men. Idon't think of a head football coach.
I think of a guy that candevelop quarterbacks, can really coach quarterbacks up
and is you know, a reallya brilliant play caller. He was exposed
to here as being exactly what yousaid right there, that he doesn't.
He didn't coach the right he couldn'tcouldn't keep the team together, he couldn't

(06:02):
he didn't hand adversity. Well, all the leadership issues came up and he
flunked and all of them. Yeah, and I think that's and and and
so I got to see it tosome degree. And I don't want that.
I truly don't want here comes herecomes. I don't want this to
be a negative because I really Idid believe in him, and I really
liked coach Staley a lot. He'sa bright, bright guy, but he's

(06:25):
he was a schematic guy. Hewas a I've got all the answers on
defense, and and he would andhe was great. He was super transparent.
And thankfully I do these games withDaniel Jeremiah, so I got to
sit and listen to the two ofthem and go back and forth and well,
what if they do this, well, then I'm going to do this.
Well what if they come out likeand he just super? But here's
what happens when that doesn't work. You've got nothing like your value is.

(06:50):
Your value is in your scheme andin your play calling. And when that
goes wrong, which unfortunately for coachStalia went wrong immediately, they never had
a good defense right. And sonow your credibility as a leader of men
is lost because you were brought inunder the auspice is that you're this defensive
genius that led the Rams to thenumber one defense in the league, and

(07:13):
you learned under Vic Fangio and Denverand in Chicago, and now you're going
to bring it here and it showsup and your ranked twenty seventh, twenty
ninth and thirty second, and nowyou can't lead. Well, what if
Lincoln Riley goes to a team thatdoesn't have a great quarterback, their offense
can't put up points, and nowyou're trying to you know. That's like,
that's what I tell people when oneof the benefits of working with a

(07:34):
team as opposed to what I wasdoing before, just as a mercenary call
in a game every week is Iget to see what these guys look like
after a game. And it lookslike a car crash. I mean,
that's that's what they look like. The way they walk onto the bus,
the way they walk onto the plane, the amount of ice that they have
their bodies wrapped in after every singlegame. It's bread taking going in the

(07:55):
lockers after every games. Yeah,it looks like the smoking records. Yeah.
There's literally blood on the floor.Yeah, everywhere, everywhere, every
corner of the floor. Yeah, knuckles, knees, ankle, like when
they start pulling the tape off. It's blood, it's raw skin, it's
ice packs, it's ice that weighs. Imagine going to the grocery store and
buying the big pack, the Glacier, the polar Express, a big pack

(08:16):
and then wrapping that around one shoulder, another one around your hip and another
one around your knee, and that'show you're flying home. That's your flight
home. And so when you're askingguys to do that again the next week
and your defense, you know, your your offense scored thirty one points and
your defense gave up thirty four,it's a tough sell, you know.
And so that's that's I think whatmaybe Lincoln could run into. I think

(08:39):
the bottom line is he did getexposed this year. Yeah, I think
that the pressure is on him tremendously. Well, you you're making all that
money and you're going into a BigTen that has a Michigan team that's run
rough shot over college football for thelast couple of years and over that that
conference for a couple of years. With with Searan Moore and new coach for

(09:00):
the first time. You know theirteam, their their defensive leader, Junior
Colson is on the Chargers, thequarterback JJ McCarthy's on the Vikings, Blake
korm is a ram like their teamis their their their three most important players
are gone. So you know that'sthat's Michigan Ohio State. Obviously, that's
always going to be a buzz saw. They have the most talent, you
know, perhaps of any team inall of the country year and in,

(09:22):
year out, and penns date isgoing to be good. Penn State's always
good. They're always a tough out. I would plays great defense. That's
the thing. Kirk Farns. Youknow, say what you want about how
bad and it was one of theworst offenses in the history of college football
last year. But you're gonna getyour ass kicked. You're you're gonna have
to punch in for you know, sixty minutes of misery, you know,

(09:43):
leg trying to get done with MillerMoss. And I don't know if that's
gonna work. I mean, Ihope it does. I it's great for
the say this, that's what Imean. The city loves us football.
But I just think for selfishly,I so desperately wanted to work for Miller
Moss that it's not We went outand got Dylan Gabriel, who was at
Central Florida two years ago, Oklahomalast year. Now he's at Oregon.

(10:05):
But you know, if he wereat USC, I just I love that,
you know, to get Miller maw. If it works, it'd be
great. If he could do itwith him, it'd be great. But
we know that that's just college footballis no longer what we remember it as.
There's no sense in trying to relitigateit and try to figure out what
it's supposed to be. It's justit doesn't. I mean, there's nothing
that resembles what you used to coverBill for decades and that did you read

(10:28):
Mike Gundy's quotes about the kid whogot the d U. Yeah, unbelievable,
he said, yeah, three orfour beers. I'd do it all
the time. Yeah. Not good, No, not tone deaf, not
good. But Mike Gundhy's Mike Gundhyis in the I think he sort of
entered the Bob Huggins era of hiscoaching career where he really does not give

(10:50):
a rip, not a single rip. And that's kind of sometimes where they
get, you know, and andI think that's where the CEO portion of
being a head coach comes in.For all the accomplishment that Nick Saban has,
where he could behave that way andtell you to pounce sand and say
whatever the hell you want. Alabamawasn't do a thing about. He always
carried himself with you know, class, and you know, every now and

(11:11):
then he'd get a little sideways ina little cranky, but he always represented
the university in a positive fashion,and you know, I think that's that's
something that Gundy has always been knownfor. Me, he's just a little
bit of a loose cannon and thingslike that come up. Kasey. You
guys see the other side of thiscollege football debate. Ucla today announced they're
no longer playing Georgia and Auburn.I love it in coming years. Instead,

(11:33):
they've scheduled games with Utah and Cal. Yeah. I love it.
One for travel, one for recruiting, and two three they just don't want
to play SEC schools. Yeah,I think you know, when you're making
all those road trips, Kates,I mean, you know, granted,
it's good that Washington and Oregon arein the conference now, but like you're
already taking crazy long road trips. So why would you do home and homes

(11:54):
with Georgia and Auburn instead of Calin Utah? You know, get as
many of those, and I knowit's kind of how they're openers are gonna
Look. It's like, what,Kate, San Diego State and they got
Hawaii, Hawaii. They also gotLSU. I think, yeah, well
that one's this year, right, they couldn't get out of there. No,
USC's got LU as you've done,is a us C l U LA's
got a USC two or l sU two. So maybe that's it.
Yeah, so I think that's allthat is. It's a product of all

(12:16):
that travel. I'm surprised to SeanFoster. Apparently he's doing pretty well over
there. It was such a hewas so quiet when he played. I
mean, that's trying to talk tohim. He's so difficult to talk to.
But apparently he's matured and he's prettygood leader. So we'll see,
we'll see UCLA. Not only theyhave their Big ten schedules you alluded to,
Matt, their non conference they haveto fly to Honolulu to start the
season, and then two weeks later, after actually three weeks after a bye,

(12:39):
they've got at LSU baton roused. They have to go down there and
play them. That's there. Ihave fled to Hollolulu for the start of
the season. I've done that withUSC Hawaii. It's horrendous, hard to
try to imagine. But the pressbox no air conditioning. Right, you're
in Hawaii, right, it's hotas hell. Well, they have the
small field now they don't play inthat big stadium anymore. Oh really,
they've got a makeshift stadium. They'veYeah, they're refurbishing it, aren't they.

(13:01):
I believe they're whatever Warrior stadiums.And I've got a rule. I
don't wear short pants and press box. Never have. No, you shouldn't,
never have, never will. Iroasted. I was there for just
one game, for one day.I roast it. You have a nice
pair of linens, like, youknow, like a nice white linen,
maybe nice Tommyham. I can't wewhite because I get staying a nice tan
linen, you know, you gowith a nice linen. Pant there anything

(13:22):
nice? Tommy Bahamas ate my twinkies. I get a crap on my pants.
Wait a second, But you don'twear shorts in the press box.
I wear them all the time.Never wear shorts of press box. Never
do it? Do you really Kate'sshort all the time? I wear shorts.
Last Friday, I roasted it wasthere. It was so hot dog
just stating it was the press boxwas brutal. How many people wear shorts?

(13:43):
I didn't see him by ord shorts. I don't think anybody does.
But Kate's you're not there in likean official covering the team capacity. When
you're there, I mean, Igo and I take my stuff with Kirsten.
My pregame interviews. Sometimes I doin the press box. I do
the pregame. You'll do the pregameshow from the absolute. But once the
game's starts, are you in apress box? You do press boss?
Oh just for the free food bill, Yeah, the ice cream and the
dykekkes. Yeah, it's too it'stoo uh. I would agree with that.

(14:07):
I would never wear shorts to No, it's a work function, like
it's a you know what I mean, Like you don't beat the round Kates
and see that no one else iswearing shorts, and you're like, wow,
I feel super hot. I've neverthought of it, but now now
that i'm guys have just brought itup. Yeah, I've never seen anybody
else shorts. I'll actually tell himat USC, I'll beg him to keep
the press box closed during all thegames because it's so hot, to keep

(14:28):
you out because I won't wear shortslike Kates, have you ever noticed that
when we do shows at Dodger Stadium, I never wear shorts. I always
wear I've never once wore shorts toa Dodger stadium broadcast that we've done.
We had an intern once we're pinkshorts to a game and the Dodgers texted
me and said, get him outof here, right, you know who
he is, get him out ofhere. And what did he say?

(14:48):
Was he just he was stage?Yeah? He was there, stady.
Yeah. I feel like I justsaid, son, this is a working
environment. You have to wear longpants, like you come into work.
The first Uh, when I washired by the Chargers, the first road
trip I ever went on the charter, Uh, you know, I show
up and everyone's in freaking suits, and I'm like, are you kidding?

(15:09):
Oh yeah, because when I travelwith the Lakers, they were sweatsuits a
sweat I mean, if if theyhad sweatsuits on, I mean, shoot,
I think some of the guys werecoming on in speedos and tank tops.
I mean it was just like atotal free for all. However comfortable
you want to be charging suits. When Anthony Lynn was first named head coach,
which is no surprise, he's aBill Parcells, you know from the
Bill Parcells Tree. Really, theguys wore suits and I had a polo

(15:35):
like I basically was in a golflike what I would wear golfing. It
was a polo and pants and Iforgot a belt, so yeah, well
I would have never worn but Ijust assumed that that was like, oh,
you know what I'm gonna these guysare all going to be in sweats.
I'll look nice. I'll wear I'llwear, you know, a nice
polo. And I felt like thebiggest freaking boob. I was the only

(15:56):
guy, truly, the only guyon the entire plane in a freak because
Niked played there, so he wasin a suit. He knew that was
a year Nick Hardwick did the games, And yeah, I felt like a
complete idiot. Moral of the story, Always overdressed and you won't feel stupid.
Never underdressed. However, I ruinedmy whole outfit because I have to
because my skin cancer, I haveto wear a big floppy hat. Right.
Andrew Freeman makes fun of the hatmy kids called the ahole hat.

(16:18):
It looks it looks terrible. Ilook I look like it. Yeah,
like a jackal lope. I likethe hat. The hat's got a I
mean for me, Bill, Ilive on the beach, and it's the
beach hat. It's what a lotof the people wear. You know,
we wear the but I got wearmy hat with the string I gotta wear.
In the dugout interview with Roberts beforethe game, it's embarrassing. I
like it, Bill, I canfind you at all times. It's so

(16:38):
embarrassing, Anama, Bill, it'sembarrassing. It's well. Listen, our
man Vic used to roll around, yeah, okay, in a fur cap
and a poncho and a medallion. We were talking about that the other day.
Do you remember that. You rememberwhen the Lakers and the Jazz played,

(16:59):
and Vic is in the postgame presserthat the Lakers had won on like
it was a very tight game.It was I think the semi finals of
the playoffs that year, and theLakers had won a very tight game on
like a clutch shot. And Vicis in the presser and he says to
Jerry Sloan something to the effect ofcoach Derek Fisher the haught and soul of

(17:21):
this team, the warrior spirit. No doubt you're missing that this year since
he left your team and came here. What did you lose when Derek left
the team. And I thought JerrySloan was going to stand up, walk
over to the bed and punch ahole for his chest. And he just
he had this very stern look onhis face and he looks up and he
goes, you ef't kidding me.Who is this guy and what's he doing

(17:45):
here? Rakes a laker Pocho medallion, gut wrenching loss for sloan And that's
the question. He'd bring the branch, and he bring the branch. Yeah,
the stick, whatever, the bamboostick bring in lockeroom. The players
loved it. The fans loved them. That can't tell you. Vic was
shoe remember t n T. Theylike Barkley, would get so geeked when

(18:10):
they would run those pressers and Vicwould ask the question and he would like
Kenny be talking like, can't shutup? Vic's talking, shut up.
He would listen. He was huge. Yeah, I said the the patient
like you have never seen a playerhave the patients of a saint. Vic

(18:30):
was like, you would pray.He would get Lamar to pray over the
bamboo fel you literally to say aprayer. It was this is one and
speaking of your your skin cancer.Uh, he should have asked you this.
This is one of our favorite interactionsbetween Vic and Lamar. It is
but two seconds, so listen closely. Do you like skin products? Probably?

(18:52):
Do you like skin love them? That is the Vic Lamar Odom relationship
in two Do you like skin products? That's awesome? Do you like skin
products? Love them? But anywhereKates so Kate's. I baked last Friday
at Dodger Stadium, so you gottawhirl on pants. I was there for
fourth of July, and I wantedto diet coke and I wanted some of

(19:12):
the soft serve, So I wentin there with my short song, Would
you ever feel bad? Would youever watch the game from the air conditioning
dining room? I won't do it. I won't do it. No,
you'll sit in your seat and roastand roast. Yeah, I mean that's
kind of an old man yeah thingto do, but that's not an old
mad thing. Bill. You're atDodger Stadium and little you can turn one

(19:32):
way and look out and see thegame. Why I want gonna want to
look at a TV monitor watch thegame? Yeah? I just figured it's
my job. I'm there to coverthe game. I actually be able out
there, part of our family. You should make your way down to the
M five seventy l a sports suitewatching them there. You throw me out
of there so fast. Welcome man, it's the great Bill Plaski. Everybody
around of applials, all right, every go, Bill melting out some bruschette.

(19:52):
You got some not cookes in thefridge. You want to bear?
You want? There are the bigweeks, and they're like big week sponsors.
That's the problem. You're gonna haveto grin and grip with all the
salespeople, you know, because they'rethere and they're gonna be excited to see
the finest sports writer of his era. So you're probably gonna take some photos.
Oh my god, it's the guyfrom around the Horn, right,
You're gonna have to do the TVstar that you are. Yeah, that's
great case I do the La Timesfor thirty seven freaking years on the guy
from around the Horns. That's that'sit right there, money, that's it

(20:18):
celebrating. That's my life, bestselling author, that's my life, Paradise
found. And what do they knowyou for yelling at Woody? Yelling you
yelling at wood In fact, I'mon the show with Woody tomorrow. Are
you really we're still left to theoriginals. They have all the old guys
on the same show. Everybody, the originals are still there. Yeah,
and we're all in the same shows. So what was the original for you?
Woody know Simer's t Simers TJ.He was original from La Bob Ryan,

(20:42):
Jam, Mary Audien, Woody andWoody. That's right, that's right,
all right. David VSA will checkin Big Dodger News in the last
fifteen minutes, right, Well,oh yeah, we were chopping it up
about nothing. They made a transaction. Fine, Oh, I know what
happened. I better know what happened. I'm not gonna say, but I
better know what happened as well. And people are gonna go find it anyway
what they do. Kate sent sentBobby Miller down a bit yell. Bobby

(21:04):
Miller sent down to Oka. See, yeah, we saw it coming.
Yeah, it's got a freaking eightE r A. Who they bringing up?
Uh flotsam and jets and that's whothey're Robleski gonna come back make his
next start. He's still with theteam below he is. Oh, I
thought they sent him right back. No, he's surprisingly still with the team.
I would you like to have yourbobblehead last home stand. Four days

(21:25):
later you get sent back to Okay. See Ricky Vanosco, the right hander
got brought up. Most awkward interviewyesterday. I have postgame on with Bobby
Miller. He sounded terrible. Hewas just so lost, law just lost.
Well. Dave sa will weighing onthat he is going to pop in

Etho nz Oi Ocha, Japan's numberone green tea and the tea that show
hel Tani loves and drinks. Andthat's why. And I don't appreciate you
giving me lip coming in here,Dave. It was on the schedule.
I'm trying to get my head rightfor this game against the Phillies and you

(22:52):
want me in here with Bill Plashkito play some Dodger grab ass. I
got two words for you. Saygive it to it. Bobby Ice.
Oh come on, come on,Bobby, explain your saying. Dave came
up with the nickname. Bobby's beenbuilt ice fan right now, He's been
put on ice. Look, Bobbyis his own worst enemy. He is

(23:15):
trying to chase velocity. He's tryingto make the greatest pitch ever every single
time out there. And that washis undoing since coming back from shoulder inflammation
and he only went four innings lastnight. The Dodger bullpen has burnt.
They needed a new arm, sosending him down is a mechanism to bring

(23:36):
back another relief pitcher in the formof Ricky Venasco. He's solid. Ok.
Ever see Bobby Ice again this year? Of course you will. I
predict you will see him in thestarting rotation after the All Star break.
This is just a little bump inthe road. Yeah, I will say
this, Dave. The thing thatI've always appreciated about him and and anybody

(23:57):
that's in the situation is he's notblaming it on the shoulder. He's like,
no, I feel fine. Thedoctors say I'm fine. I it's
nice to hear him say I justgot to figure this out. Yeah,
that he has to grow up,But it isn't. No, it's gotta
be bothering. Well, he hasn'thit one hundred miles an hour since he
came off the I L But youdon't need a hundred when you throw ninety

(24:18):
eight. And by the way, from what I've been told from hitters,
his one hundred is very straight, and that's part of the issue why he
doesn't get strikeouts. He needs togo back to throwing that new and vogue
pitch that was very common when youcovered the Dodgers bill sweeper, No,
the two scene fastball, the sinker, the sinker, Charlie. There is

(24:40):
no such thing as a sweeper backin clash day, right, But that
so now what So he's out blastnow out yamama, uh yama. Here
we go. We're gonna do thepanic now. I'm just saying, like
the only guy, the only guyleft his right now, starting pitcher first,

(25:03):
getting playoffs is gonna be Klaton Kruschelagain. They're gonna be so screwed
because they've lost all the players injuries. If that happens, they're in real
trouble there, there are. They'rein real trouble because okay, number one,
let's pump the brakes on the glassnow in tree. Alright, last
five stars he sucked, pumped thosebreaks. But three of his last five
starts he stuck. Yeah, hewasn't very good. You're right, he's

(25:25):
human. But he's still on pacefor more strikeouts by a Dodger right hander
since nineteen twenty four. So he'shaving a great year. But were those
bad starts? Of product of himbeing deemed maybe dam Dave Roberts said,
absolutely not, and we can trustwhatever Dave says when it comes to injuries.
Okay, and number two, Ohgood day there? All right,

(25:48):
Well, let me just go backto this. Look. Glass now is
only missing one start. This isa great opportunity to manage his season and
give him a little He's set cooldown that back and be ready for the
second half. Are you saying so? You say that perhaps this back injury
is reminiscent Ow? What's the matter? You're up next? Chest. I'm

(26:11):
a really bad tramp. I've beenhaving really bad tramps all week. It
was probably menstrul screw you Melon? Is it like the chass cramp? Is
it? Do you think the backis a fake injury to get him to
chass cramp? I'm holding you tothat. Hold you that go ahead.
You can hold me accountable. Whatexplains him three in the last five starts,
he's been so bad. I don'tknow. He's just not pitching well.

(26:33):
And let's be honest, this ishis track record. He starts off
really hot, and as the seasongoes on, it starts to see somewhat
of a downward decline, not justwith injuries but also with stuff, and
the Dodgers are trying to manage himbetter than he's ever been managed before.
Do you know Glass now has onlypitched on four days rest once this year?

(26:57):
He's pitched the entire season five daysrest, five and six days rest.
But look at this, It's earlyJuly and they're already managing him.
They're already worried about him as ayeah, well they should be right.
We gotta king about October. Sayingabout October doesn't moode well for October for
this guy, Well, at somepoint he's got to get used to pitching
on four days rest. And here'sthe bigger question. Is Tyler Glass now

(27:19):
the guy to pitch on short restbecause he's supposed to be the horse in
October? The Madison Bumgardner, theSteven Strasburg. Is Tyler Glass now up
for the challenge? And does hehave the testicular forte balls? Does he
have the testicular fortitude as the GreatGorilla Monsoon would say, to be able

(27:44):
to go on three days rest topitch an elimination game, to pitch a
must win game. He has notdone it before, and that is the
bigger question rather than this little back. I will say that's the most important.
In fact, I wrote this,he's the most important Dodger. Why
don't you percent? Because that thewhole season rest on that question. That's
why they traded for him, That'swhy they gave him the extension to be

(28:07):
that horse, to be that guy, and let's see whether or not he's
up for the challenge. So whyare you watching this boring soccer game?
England just scored England freaking Spain EuroFinal. My god, Dave, the
glory. I ask you a questionsthe glory. I have a question.
That's fine, I'm watching the soccermatch. Have you have you ever loved
have you ever loved the player asmuch as you love Blake tryning? Blake

(28:29):
trying I do like Blake chat. Are you kidding me? Do you not
remember his relationship with Andre Ethier, with Adrian Gonzales. I think they shared.
They went on the road front hehas every other day and age shared
a room on the road. Hey, Blake Trining is a very valuable reliever
from He's great. Yeah, buthe's he's always begging me. He's begging

(28:49):
me to come into mind. Ihold on. This is much more interesting
if we were to do if wewere to rank Dave's best butt buddies of
all the Dodge Bull wars. Yeah, exactly, I'm gonna go number one.
It's not come in here for thisfun than talking about them getting blown
out again. Your's number one.I agree with that. I would.

(29:11):
I would guess he's a great partnershipwith the station Superior Grocers. So am
I? Are we right? Ais Ethier one? Yeah, he's a
great man. Number two. It'sjust where it gets a little tricky.
Number two. I want to goAdrian. I'll go Adio for one reason
because when he went to Italy duringthe playoffs, he didn't say a word
about it. Not going Adrian,I'm not going Adrian. No, Kates.

(29:34):
Kates wants to go Loney the loanDog. No, I'm going Kenley
Jansen. Number two. I justtalked to Kenley a couple of days.
I mean, am I right KenleyJanson? Number two? Oh? You
mean the all time says goes againsthis type. His type is young Caucasian.
No, that's no, that's why. Now, that's why we're going
to go skip Schock for third.Hey, Okay, that's not true at
all. Bill Plaski has me mistakenwith former Beat writer Andy McCullough and only

(30:00):
spoke to the white guys. Hewas a white guy only guy. He
won't be there for Matt Kemp day. I can assure you he was a
w g O white guy only.I mean, he's trying to pin me
yours for being a Caucasian. Yourfans were being car that's actually one hundred
percent inaccurate. Kenley thickest thieves, that's and I think that's the number two.
I think Kenley's number two. MattKemp's one of my guys. Yeah,

(30:21):
but he's not in the top five. Aaron Davis, Darryl Strawberry,
Petrick Crawford, Are Sheffield, AdrianGonzalez is top five for sure. Sure.
I love Gonzo, Okay Punto orSchumacher. Who's in the top five.
Hang's right, Punto and Schumacher mentionedin Kershaw's MVP speech the following year.

(30:44):
Right, that says it all,see what I mean. So they're
in there. But I gonna saythis about best say I says to everybody,
he's the voice of the Dodgers, face the Dodgers. It's not close.
He's there. I said Glass wasthe most important player. He's the
most important employee as far as who, as far as that connection is community,
the community knows. The Dodgers whoDave say that's right are instrepid Dodger
reporter. And I'm afraid to askthe tough question, never afraid to ask

(31:07):
no questions. Oh he's keen insightheany PLASKI was there when Glass now got
snippy with me the other night.Oh yeah, say what after him?
Best? Say what after? Healways does? He goes after everybody,
bare knuckle after him. He doesn'thave the resume to speak to me that
way, Plash. I know,Well, that's like a man. Remember
the one time Krushall it was,oh yeah, it was difficult with you,
and I got mad at Chrishall.I said, don't talk to the

(31:29):
Essay has been there every easier, every game. Don't you talk like that.
I want to say to him fora week, I asked him out
for a week. What were youthere when he and Hanley Ramirez had their
interaction the best one ever? No, that was in Denver. Tell him
he's all you with your phony smileand laugh and then he said and then
he's gonna chase me down to theclubhouse with the bat. But what do
you tell you? He said, you're on my list? Oh yeah,

(31:52):
and you yelled back, what you'reon my list? Exactly right. He'll
be along at three o'clock when wereturn. Get into well how not to
spend one hundred and fifty million dollars. Stay focused. This mooring soccer game
means nothing. Oh they waved offthe goal. I was grabbing ass again.

(32:13):
The top five, I'm telling youthey, I'm telling you Blake trying
to this top five. He's noway. I didn't take him to Travis
Matthew with Gavin Stone and Bobby Ice. Blake's to a square. Blake's too
much of a square. Dave getsa little bit loose on the road.
He needs guys that are willing togo out and get a little bit loose.
What he does that, That's whatI mean. That's why Blake's not
in the top five. I'm onthe streets more than these guys. Yeah,

(32:40):
Dodgers and Phillies. First pitch, four o'clock, Gavin Stone a Stone
bonner on the mound. Dodger fans, get your game day meal on at
Shakey's Pizza Parlor or to your Shaky'sPizza, Chicken and Mojo's right now at
Shaky's dot com, and you couldbe enjoying it before the first pitch,
Bill, I imagine see now theyhad to uh take the goal off England

(33:00):
from on off sides, but theyjust scored again. Spoiler alert for those
of you recording it and hoping towatch it at home. Sorry about that.
I would assume Bill, back inthe day, being the man on
the beat that you were, thedifferent sports that you covered, and I'm
gonna I'm gonna stick my neck outthere for one of our sponsors that we
absolutely love and cherish because they bringus food from time to time. But

(33:22):
I would imagine Shaky's a big sportswriter kind of hang out just because of
the bunch of lunch. You know, maybe before a game you pop in
there, get yourself some chicken, some mojos, some pizza. Shaky's was
always the place you go with yourkids for the Little League right banquets,
so it was not a big sportsrider's hangout. Get the affordable meal.

(33:45):
They pour beers, so it's likegood place to go to get a couple
of beers as being a kids placebecause you go there, there be kids
getting trophies, were being they gotthe arcade games and all that sort of
stuff. Yeah, it was.It was great for that, all right.
So I want to bring this upbecause we rarely, and it's understandable,
rarely talk straight Clippers basketball, like, hey, let's break down what's

(34:06):
going on with the cot because nobodycares exactly, but I do. I
do think it is worth addressing this. They are going to move into what
very well could end up being thebest arena in the National Basketball Association.
It looks like it's going to befreaking incredible. If the Lakers or the
Celtics, or the Knicks or theBulls played there, it would be the

(34:28):
talk of the league. This stateof the art. Never have to get
out of your seat if you wantto. You're never going to be out
of it for more than a minutebecause you can order all your food from
your phone. It'll be there waitingfor you as soon as you walk up
to the counter. There's more yeurnalsthan people in the joints and whatever.
Kawhi Leonard could not make it fourdays. You couldn't make it four days

(34:49):
of practice, not four games aftertwo months of prep and a flight across
the pond to Paris. You couldnot make it through four days of selec
lack team practice before he was told, we're good for all of the craziness
surrounding Brownie James being a Laker, and it is crazy that he is,

(35:13):
and it is worth the attention thatit's getting. The three year, one
hundred and fifty million dollar extension waspsychotic and did not because they're the Clippers.
It did not get the attention forbeing one of the most asinine contracts
ever handed out by an organization. It was insane, insanity. The Clippers
have been acting insane for the lastthree or four months, and nobody notices,

(35:36):
nobody pays attention, nobody cares. But they should care because you're right
to move into the into a domeand it's gonna be also, it's going
to be incredible to go see it. Ga, everybody's gonna talk about it.
Once they gave the money to Kawhi, I said, okay, they
at least got to keep PG.They got to keep Paul George because they
just gave this money to a guywho's not gonna last who's not gonna hold
up his end of the bargain. So you get Quie the money. You

(35:57):
do that only if you assure youcan keep Paul George. But if you
can't keep Paul George, you can'tRisks franchise on Kuhi. It'll crumble.
This is this is incredible, likeit's funny to pull up and perhaps it's
just the the a hole in me? Right? Do you know the next
time they control their own draft pick? Do you know what year they have

(36:22):
control of their own draft pick? This is because they had traded all the
draft picks in SGA for Paul George, I am, and they traded draft
picks for do you know what year? I'm gonna guess, twenty twenty eight,
twenty thirty, wow, twenty thirty. And they have got a guy

(36:43):
who could not make it through fourpractices signed to a three year, one
hundred and fifty million dollar deal,James Harden on a two year, seventy
million dollar deal. I brought thisup on Monday with Don McLean. I
said, you know, and itwas perhaps a little insensitive because ye Don's
career because of a knee injury, but I said, you know, basketball
is not football. Football, thereis controlled violence and then at moments there's

(37:07):
uncontrolled violence and guys get knocked out. And whoever wins the Super Bowl tends
to be a team that survives thewar of attrition and there were enough bodies
left at the end of the yearto remain a viable competitive franchise. I
mean that is a big part ofwho ultimately makes and wins the Super Bowl
is you didn't lose as many valuableplayers, contributing players as other teams did

(37:30):
in basketball. I understand the beatingthat your knees take running up and down
a hardwood floor every day for practiceand two and a half hours for games,
whatever it may be. But forthe most part, if we go
through the superstars and the history ofthis game, Kobe Shack, Michael Jordan,
Magic Johnson, doctor j Kareem, and even like you know, we

(37:51):
shift to the present day. LebronDirk, Tim Duncan, Kim Olajawan,
Karmelone, John Stock and Steph Kirk. These guys don't get hurt. They're
they're not playing sixty games a yearand missing twenty five percent of the season
like they they they play, theyplay every game they play every single playoff

(38:12):
game. The idea that you wouldhand one hundred and fifty million dollars to
a guy that has never played eightytwo games, a guy that has never
played seventy five games. Last yearhe played sixty eight bill and missed the
playoffs. Do you know sixty eightis the third highest total he has ever

(38:35):
played in his career. Sixty eight, It's embarrassed, is the third most
games he's ever played in his career. The bad thing about this is that
their owner is so good. StoveBalmer is such a good guy, spends
so much money. I don't thinkhe's paying attention. I think he was
paying more attention. He'd have cleanhouse, a cleanhouse in front office by
now right, How does the frontoffice do this? I mean how do
they do? They're going into thenew Arena now with no body, with

(39:00):
no star Because if Kahi can't playto any Olympics, he's probably not ready
for the starting Wars practice. Hecouldn't make it to his fourth practice.
So is he ready for the startof the season. I'm guessing not.
And you just can't count on him. You can't count on James Hard to
lead the team. He's no leader. They so they signed Nicholas Batom.
That's their big Fridge is signing.Yeah, I think Derreck Jarge Jones Jr.

(39:22):
Nicholas Batoomb, Terrence Man and they'regoing to beat to a new arena,
trying to stay aish their own identityand on the culture. And they
have no draft picks. They haveno draft picks until twenty thirty. Next
year, Oklahoma City can swap. They do. Yeah, the Lakers get
their second round pick in twenty twentysix. Oklahoma City receives the two most

(39:47):
favorable of the twenty twenty six firstround picks, Houston's or the Clippers,
So basically they don't they don't haveit. Their second round pick goes to
Memphis or Houston. The twenty twentyseven Oklahoma City as their first, Atlanta
has the second. Twenty twenty eight, Philly has their first, Charlotte or
Dallas has their second. Twenty twentynine, Philadelphia has the rights to swap
if they want, and the Spurshave their second. Is their track picks

(40:10):
for the next five years. They'regonna have one big moment when then Tua
Dome opens the first game. It'llbe a big moment. Then they're gonna
disappear. Yeah, and it's it'sgonna kill him and Steve Balmers, you
gotta do something. I mean, how does he have first competitive as he
is is into the games? Ishe who's responsible for this? Well that's
let that be a lesson here.So here's the thing. Young people that

(40:31):
want to get into coaching or youknow somehow I can't. You know,
if you've decided you don't have thetalent to play, which is ninety nine
point nine nine percent of us,but you want to get in somehow.
Don't get into coaching, get intothe front office because general managers get fired
a lot less frequently than coaches, and team presidents get fired even less frequently

(40:55):
than general managers and head coaches.B Gilly and be the team president and
you are going to coast with aseven figure salary and not be responsible for
a damn thing. We have twoof the arguably these are two sports front
offices in basketball in our town.U there are two of the top in
the NBA. Yeah, they're upthere, They're definitely up there. I

(41:20):
think the fact that and nobody getsfired, No, nobody gets moved,
nobody gets nobody gets hurt. Nobodygets hurt. Yeah, the that's a
good question, because there are somereally bad front offices in basketball. But
it the the Lebron running rough shotover Polinka and vetoing trades that he wants
to make and instead demanding that RussellWestbrook come hiring JJ Reddick, not forcing

(41:44):
him to coach. The movie Lakershave made this off season has to do
with Lebron. Yes, they hired, they drafted his son, they hired
his buddy, they signed, theygave me kind of gave him his one
hundred and three million bucks. Sono, it's just it's it's incredible,
and the Balmer deserves so much betterthan what he's agree He deserves better,
but he's wrote I wrote one hundredand twenty million dollar check last year for

(42:06):
luxury tax to lose in the ferry. He's got three playoff series wins to
show for five years of spending allthat money on Kawhi and Paul George.
You know, the Paul George thing. It happened, and we talked about
writing a column on it. Butif I write a column, nobody's gonna
read. It's gonna read it.It's it's just a waste of space.
And you know, they're so faroff off the map, so far under
the radar, and it's sad becausethey are a fun franchise and he's a

(42:29):
he's a great old he's a he'sas the rich stor sports, I would
disagree. I think there was away to write the Paul George column that
people would have paid attention. Well, well after Lakers make big blunder by
not making a play for Paul George, that's how you write the column.
Yeah, you're right, No,no, you know, I'm gonna write
something because the Kawhi him back inout of the Olympics makes this the worst
offseason in Clipper Yeah history practices threeyears, one hundred and fifty million dollars

(42:54):
for a guy who's last year sixtyeight games and he could not play in
the playoffs. He was open bythe time the playoffs, third most games
he's ever played in his career. But the good news is, for the
first time ever, the Clippers areon TV in June. Have you seen
clipped? No? I have not. They're on TV. Is good,
it's big. No, it's justsay yeah, for the first time in
their history, they've made it toJune, Larry Fishburne. Right, isn't

(43:15):
he playing Lawrence? Yes? Yeah, I was in in the first scene.
I asked him, Yeah, I'vegot a line. Oh damn.
So I try to talk to himabout the Clippers after between takes. He
has no nomins, no idea aboutsports. The script. He never heard
of Doc Rivers. He never heardof Doc Rivers. That wild, that's
crazy in that wild. But hedoes a great job. No, he

(43:36):
does a great job. Entertained stand Donald Sterling's uh, the actor from
al Bundy does Donald stir? Ohdoes he really? What's his name?
I don't know, you said alBundy, And now that's all I got
in my head. The guy who'sin Modern Family as well. Yeah,
Ed O'Neil does, He does goodjob. Does ladies play? Shelley Stone
does a great job. It's agreat it's a it's an interesting thing.

(43:58):
You haven't seen any of it.I haven't. It's worth watching. I
watch anime in Japanese movies, Korean, Indonesian action films. They had some
anime night at Dodgers j last week. Yeah, these anime creatures were thrown
out the first Pietri. It wasweird. Yeah, that's I don't know.
I found myself in this. It'sbeen about a year now. It's
just all Indonesian, Chinese, Korean, Japanese action films and anime. Where

(44:22):
do you find Indonesian action films?Netflix? Do you search for Indian?
You put? I found one,and then once I watched that one,
they recommending more. Well, nowI've watched like they're super dark. They
all end like they're like Quentin Tarantinofilms. Everybody's dead at the end,
like there's no happy ending. It'sand it's super intense. It's one of

(44:44):
the they're just like they're not MichaelBay explosions everywhere. It's these very tense
moments where you know someone's about todie and you don't know which person.
Netflix sends me rom comms. Isthat right? Yeah, because that's what's
kind of that's what you do.I'm a big sap. What about the
say, I just watched a notebookthe other day. That's terrible. It's
Tremendous's terrible. Oh, it's great. The money come on, it's terrible.

(45:07):
If we need a pull over ofthe listeners, the Notebook would be
they would tell you you can't comeback for the next hour. He's here.
We got an hour to go andthen we'll have Dodgers Phillies baseball
