never heard that about anybody else.Here's here's my thing, though I'm personally

if you watched him at USC,he clearly was still finding his footing on
both sides of the ball. Istill think he's rather raw as a prospect,

and he still has a ways togo to being an NBA caliber even
like back end rotation players. SoI think he's going to spend a lot
of year in the G League.I think he will probably have to spend
a lot of next year in theG League, barring some unforeseen progress and
development. So like it's going tobe a process, and this could even

be a multi year process. Butanyone expecting him to come out and kill
it from day one or game onein summer League, I think that was
just setting him up to fail.And obviously, given the name and the
pedigree and all that, like,there's going to be a certain level of
attention and scrutiny, and there aregoing to be a certain level of expectations

with him. I just don't Ithink realistically, like as you've been,
probably a little bit worse than theexpectations I had. Like, yes,
I think at least on the offensiveend, but I think I didn't expect
him to come out and be likea twenty point per game scorer and like
justify the contract. From the beginningof this, I always thought this was
going to be a longer process andif not a multi year process. So

from that perspective, like, again, has he you know, underachieved I
would say yes, But at thesame time, I don't think like that
there was this high bar necessarily justbased on what we saw at USC,
based on him going at number fiftyfive, and just based on what we
knew, like this was not hewas not a guy who's going to have
these like I catching numbers and whatnot, Like he's not been that player since

high school so far. So Ido think that there's still a bit of
a learning curve there and we needto give it a little bit more time
before we make a final assessment onwho he is or what he could be.
Yeah, I think the you know, you've addressed it a little bit
there, and I think you didn'taddress it directly, which is no big
deal. I mean, I thinka lot of people, you know,
can can connect the dots that thiswas. He was drafted because Lebron wanted

him drafted, He came out becausehis dad wanted him to come out,
and he's on the Lakers because hisdad wants it to be on his you
know, legacy retirement. You knowpiece that he was the first guy who
have ever played with his son inthe NBA in an actual game. It's
selfish and whatever it is what itis. But from a basketball standpoint,
Yovann as someone who covers this team, who knows the Gems that Nick Mazella

finds, the Alex Carusos, theAustin Reeves. What I'm wondering is because
that roster spot now belongs to him, they cannot fill it with somebody else.
Are they missing out? Is theresomebody out this Traiory kid? Is
there someone that's not going to makethe team because they chose to take care
of Lebron James and draft his sonand give him a guaranteed contract. Is

it that big of a mistake thatit could end up costing them a spot
for someone that could make a differencepotentially, You know, I don't think
you can rule that out. Likewith Traiore and Blake Hinson, those guys
are two of their new two waycontracts, so they will have an opportunity

of the roster, they can alwaysclear a roster spot to sign one of
those guys if they if they wantto. But I even look at a

You know, he has not madea three pointer yet. He has
had I mean, there's a coupleof air balls last game, though Lakers
Summer League coach Dame Johnson felt thatthat was more to do with Bronnie getting
a couple of grenades at the endof a possession where someone just kicked the
ball to him and he had tofling something up. But yeah, like,

there's no denying. No one saysthat about anybody else ever. I
never heard that about anybody else.Here's here's my thing, though I'm personally
not very surprised. I think anyoneelse that, you know, because I
see everything on social media. Itry not to, but I see a
lot of it, and there's been, you know, I've seen comments of

like, well, why don't theyrun offense for him, or why don't
they give the ball to him?Like that's just not who Brownie is at
this stage of his career. Likehe is a kick the ball out and
he takes an open three, oroccasionally he'll break someone off the dribble in
these kind of like random possessions.But for the most part, he is
clearly a role player offensively and thendefensively. I think there's been some flashes

of him battling bigger guys in thepost or steals or you know, he
had some nice plays, especially theCali Classic, But but it's it's the
development, and I think anyone whoexpected otherwise just had unrealistic expectations, because
if you watched him at USC,he clearly was still finding his footing on
both sides of the ball. Istill think he's rather raw as a prospect,

and he still has a ways togo to being an NBA caliber even
like back end rotation players. SoI think he's going to spend a lot
of year in the G League.I think he will probably have to spend
a lot of next year in theG League, barring some unforeseen progress and
development. So like it's going tobe a process, and this could even

be a multi year process. Butanyone expecting him to come out and kill
it from day one or game onein summer League, I think that was
just setting him up to fail.And obviously, given the name and the
pedigree and all that, like,there's going to be a certain level of
attention and scrutiny, and there aregoing to be a certain level of expectations

with him. I just don't Ithink realistically, like as you've been,
probably a little bit worse than theexpectations I had. Like, yes,
I think at least on the offensiveend, but I think I didn't expect
him to come out and be likea twenty point per game scorer and like
justify the contract. From the beginningof this, I always thought this was
going to be a longer process andif not a multi year process. So

from that perspective, like, again, has he you know, underachieved I
would say yes, But at thesame time, I don't think like that
there was this high bar necessarily justbased on what we saw at USC,
based on him going at number fiftyfive, and just based on what we
knew, like this was not hewas not a guy who's going to have
these like I catching numbers and whatnot, Like he's not been that player since

high school so far. So Ido think that there's still a bit of
a learning curve there and we needto give it a little bit more time
before we make a final assessment onwho he is or what he could be.
Yeah, I think the you know, you've addressed it a little bit
there, and I think you didn'taddress it directly, which is no big
deal. I mean, I thinka lot of people, you know,
can can connect the dots that thiswas. He was drafted because Lebron wanted

him drafted, He came out becausehis dad wanted him to come out,
and he's on the Lakers because hisdad wants it to be on his you
know, legacy retirement. You knowpiece that he was the first guy who
have ever played with his son inthe NBA in an actual game. It's
selfish and whatever it is what itis. But from a basketball standpoint,
Yovann as someone who covers this team, who knows the Gems that Nick Mazella

finds, the Alex Carusos, theAustin Reeves. What I'm wondering is because
that roster spot now belongs to him, they cannot fill it with somebody else.
Are they missing out? Is theresomebody out this Traiory kid? Is
there someone that's not going to makethe team because they chose to take care
of Lebron James and draft his sonand give him a guaranteed contract. Is

it that big of a mistake thatit could end up costing them a spot
for someone that could make a differencepotentially, You know, I don't think
you can rule that out. Likewith Traiore and Blake Hinson, those guys
are two of their new two waycontracts, so they will have an opportunity
to play during the season, anddepending on what happens with the back end

of the roster, they can alwaysclear a roster spot to sign one of
those guys if they if they wantto. But I even look at a
guy like tarre Uh. You knowyou've seen flashes from him, certainly,
but his brother is a projected lotterypick in next year's draft, And like
that's an example of like I mean, because of who Lebron is and because

of who Bronny is, I thinkthere's a microscope on this. But you
can go through like recent like theKnicks signed j R. Smith's brother,
and his brother was not an NBAcaliber player at the time. Dnasis onto
the Kumpo has been in the leaguefor a bit because largely because of the

honest and and you know, hedecided a couple of moments as like a
rotation guy. But for the mostpart, I don't think he would be
on a lot of rosters. Youcould look at the Warriors keeping around Damian
Lee, who is married to StephCurry's sister, And then you could even
look in like the front office situationwith the Knicks of Leon Rose, you
know, used to rep Rick Brunson, and Rick Brunson's Jalen bro since that,

and then his agent is Sam Rose, who's Leon Rose's son, And
like this whole concept of like nepotismand sports is very prevalent. It just
so happens that Lebron is Lebron andthere's like this this extra magnification on it.
So it's not to justify it byany means. I'm just saying like
these things happen, Like there areguys on the back end of a lot
of rosters that don't necessarily belong onthem. Now with Bronny obviously, like

he struggled, and it could likeI think the Lakers have had multiple things
go against them where looking at theguys from last year, Jalen Huch if
you know, Maxwell lewis neither one. I mean Jalen isn't even playing yet,
he's still recovering from a back injury. But you know, those are
a couple of spots that are beingtaken up. Browny obviously, I don't
think it's gonna be a rotation guy. And then they have these player options

guys opt in Cam Reddish, ChristianWood, Jackson Hayes, and like they
have several spots on this roster thatare probably not rotation caliber guys. And
seeing a guy like Gary Trent Juniorgo for the minimum to Milwaukee, like
that's where it really stings. Aguy that Gary Trent Junior could really help
the Lakers. So, I mean, it certainly is a factor. I'm
not going to say like him,Like I think he's probably more of a
(32:10):
two way guy, right, Likebased on what we've seen and even then
that might be a little generous,but like, like he's played more like
a two way guy than an actualroster spot guy. But at the same
time, his dad is his dad, and like it's just based on like
the recent history of how teams havecatered to their stars, Like this is
very much in line with that.It just so happens that again, he's
(32:34):
been in the spotlight for a decade. But kind of focus on it more.
You know that there's all of thosestories you just mentioned and you had
to dig hard for him, likeyou're at the beach with the sand with
the detective. Yeah, those guysare still around, and then there's this
story, right, I mean,and you you've alluded to that. So
my question, I guess is youknow this doesn't happen in a vacuum.

The entire NBA sees is the entireNBA season targets this poor young man.
I don't know how anybody on theteam feels about him, or how people
are interacting. I'm sure they allfreaked out and feel like they're working for
Bronny in the first place, Imean lebron in the first place. And
this only has to make it weirder. I mean much. How many bad
decisions can you afford us a franchiseif you're the Lakers and now this this

is the biggest story. It's anelephant in the room for no good reason.
Yeah, I mean look like andto be clear, I'm not disagreeing
with you guys. I'm just layingout that I feel like they feel that.
It's more just like I feel likethat there's this narrative out there that
like teams back end, the rostersdon't have some element of like nepotism or

cronyism or you know, sometimes it'sas simple as just, uh, the
same agent as the star And you'veseen that with the Lakers with guys from
Clutch of certain guys have gotten certaincontracts or whatnot because of that. But
you've seen it other teams have.You know, if you're a star player
as a certain agent and that's apower agent, they can get one of
their clients a contract on your roster. So I just more so I feel

like people are kind of cherry,Like I get the the optics and it's
such a high profile story, soI understand why it's being paid more attention
to. I just also want toprovide kind of the counterpoint of like this
isn't necessarily rare. It's just thatbecause he's been he's been a prospect for
since he was a little kid andall through high school being followed at Sierra

Canyon and like all this stuff,So like I get why it's such a
big story. I just also Idon't think this is necessarily a situation that
is unique in so far as likethis stuff always plays in a part.
And it's not like he didn't getsome like you know, four year,
eighty million dollar deal or something likethat. It's it was spot just because
they have got a guys, youknow, you know, it's it's hurt.

Like I think the back end ofthe roster, Like I like the
Lakers top eight or nine and beyondthat, I don't like the rest of
the roster. Right, Bronnie isincluded in that group. And I look
at like some of these other teamsin the West that just can go ten,
eleven, twelve deep. And it'slike if you have an injury to
a lebron or an ad or evensomebody you know, Austin Reeves, Jared

Vanderbilt, whoever, like all ofa sudden you're relying on guys who aren't
ready, So like it's certainly afactor. Like the Lakers have mismanaged,
in my opinion, the back endof this roster, and that's why,
I mean, they could make aconsolidation trade where they trade a couple of
these minimum guys with like a secondround pick and open up some roster flexibility.
Day for whatever reason, I've chosenout to do that, and I
think it's a mistake. I thinkthey need to improve the back end of

the roster, and obviously Brownie isa part of that, but they're not
going to trade Bronnie. They're notgoing to cut Bronnie like it is what
it is. He's a part ofthe roster. So from like, they
need to explore other avenues to dothat. But yeah, I mean,
like he's a longer term project.And I think it's a situation where if
we're looking at this from like twoyears from now, and what we're having
the same conversation in twenty twenty sixand Bronnie has not shown any substantial growth

and still is not a rotation caliberguy, I think it's it's fair to
hammer the situation. I think it'sfair to hammer the contract and we'll see
where the Lakers are at that point. But I think for now he was
always going to be a project,and anyone who thought otherwise, like and
was going to view him through thelines of like, can't he contribute year

one? He's not going to contributeyear one, Like as things stand,
that's just, you know, unlesshe becomes a much better shooter and a
better defender and a better ball handlerlike that, there's all these steps that
he has to take to become anactual, like rotation caliber guy that I
just don't think it's going to happenwithin the next year. And through that
lens, I'm you know, it'sjust it's also like that they are saving
some money with the contract technically becausehe's making less than like a vet minimum

guy. So like you will seeteams, he's not the only late sac
a round pick to get traded.Yeah, it's look, I get it,
I get it. I just Ithink like at some level, like
Lebron, Lebron has the power rightto do what he's done, and then
he did it, so apparently.I mean, that's that's crazy. That's
the crazy thing. He has thepower, But is there another NBA franchise

that would allow a forty year oldplayer to hijack their their team like this,
I think so, I think anylike I think I need to if
Lebron had left, you know,the one team that cap space that you
know could have signedhim would have beenPhilly. I'm sure if he went to
Philly would and they'd be like sure, Yeah, So I think that's like

again, it's like you you bringin Chris Smith to appease j R.
Smith, you bring in the NASAsto I mean Lakers did this previously with
with coastas onto the compo what theyhad the pipe dream of of eventually getting
Giannis to come to l A.So like again, I mean the guaranteed
contract in the four years like thatis obviously a little more of an exception

compared to that, but like actuallyhaving a ross like I don't want to
say wasting a is just such astrong word, but like spending a roster
spot on a player who is twoyears away. Yeah no, look like
the one thing I do, youknow, I don't have feels like I'm

seat. You know, it's fine. I just but the one thing,
like at least from talking to peoplefrom from the Lakers of what they see
and what their vision is is like, this was a guy who, before
his heart situation, was a projectedfirst round pick by yes men and was
in a McDonald's All American And ifhe didn't have the name that he had,

he wouldn't have been like projected firstround pick and he wouldn't have been
potentially right. But but I thinkthere's like a different there's a different way
this story plays out of like,this was a guy who was projected to
go in the first round of thisdraft. He ends up having this like
horrific traumatic situation happened, and thisteam is taking a chance on him at
the back end of the draft,and it's it's a very low low risk

takes. It's a very low riskbecause right now, if you replace Brownie
with an actual vet minimum player,the Lakers are over there are only forty
five thousand dollars under that second apronso even by you know, and that's
partly because of the other ways theymismanaged, just for also with the player
options they gave out last summer oflike if you just replace like take Bronnie
off, put Gary Trent Junior on, You're over the second apron and all

of a sudden, there's all theserestrictions. So like in a way,
like Bronnie's contract is actually saving theLakers unless they just didn't have a player
in that spot like period, it'sreally some of the other contracts. Now
again in general, like that spotis being taken by a player who isn't
going to contribute next season, sothat hurts their their depths, it hurts
their flexibility. But I just Idon't know. It's a tricky situation.
