(04:23):
green tea. I did not mentionthat we are giving away an Otani All
Star jersey as well. I wantedto mention that you could stream the show
and see who wheres that wins thatjersey and if it's somebody that's super fat
and tries to put it on andthere because he's fat and the buttons are
busting and all that. That's gonnabe pretty pretty fun to watch on YouTube.
Right, your son comes home crimebecause someone told him he was fat.
(04:46):
This makes me sick. I mean, this is bad luck. So
we got Victor Brick listen for anupdate, and I didn't pull if if
we had Kate's here, and Ijust don't want to overwork fully functioned boy
at him. He was watched inthe Clipper game late last night. He's
been doing a great job. Infact, when I talked to him on
my way in today, I waslike, so, how's it going.
He's like catch Clippers last night? He said, No, No, I
(05:09):
didn't happen to I missed the Clippergame. Why would I Summer League?
No, I just went on withmy life. You're the Clippers guy,
which is why you're watching the Clippersgame. Maybe he'll have a for us.
But if if Adam was not hereand it was Kate's, we would
run a flashback like with our flashbacks. Sound yeah, did little? Did
(05:29):
little? And show vic the Brickdon't forget of talking about him struggled with
his jump shot to that effect. Now, of course, Vick will say
it was taken out of context, and Vick will defend himself here and there,
But the truth is Vic said somethingegregious. He really upset the people.
He said that Brownie's jump shot beingbad reminds him of Magic not being
able to shoot his rookie season, which is perhaps one of the worst sports
(05:54):
comparisons ever made in the history ofLos Angeles sports talk radio. And that's
because Bill Ryder used to do theshow before us. That that is really
saying something. And Pat O'Brien usedto do the show before us told us
that he turned down an interview withClinton President Clinton because they forced him to.
I believe that's in the machine.I can't tell you how many interviews.
(06:17):
I can't tell you how many likebig time interviews I've turned down,
including president, including presidents, becausethey asked for a list of questions prior
to the interview. So Vic saidthat. Vic said, I've struggled with
his jump shut his rookie year, and everybody here agreed on a suspension until
(06:38):
Vic says the words of apology. And he's there waiting, and I believe
he's there to say the words. He cannot say any words. I don't
know what prior like this, theapology has got to come immediately. People
on social media are pissed. Itwas unanimous the call for suspension. Not
(07:04):
a single person said that we tookit out of contact now. Not a
single person said, ah, Ican kind of see where he's coming from
now. Everybody demanded suspension, demandedapology. So look at this text.
I just got this text at threezho one. We started three hey pete,
while Vic should apologized for his conferenceyesterday one hundred percent, and it
(07:25):
needs to be done in the show'sfirst segments. Please be gentle. What
hate for the bamboo to break andnot bend. We'll be gentle. It's
just the apology has to come straightout the gate. The magic is sporting
Royalty in this time and the conversationis the greatest athlete in the history of
(07:47):
Los Angeles sports off the court.I mean he's left some things to be
desired. Well, I think itdepends. Do you like the idea of
yachting around the Mediterranean for a coupleof months and sharing photos for all the
public to digest? No? Idon't. Okay, Well, then that's
why he's not your guy. Idon't like it. I like it.
Share with me your spread of food. This is Chef Giuseppi, and he
(08:11):
cooked the most beautiful hell of itfor us last night. I want to
see you cookie, Sam Jackson, his lady j l Cool JJ and his
lady chlowy gown. Absolutely be careful. Those are my people, all right,
Vic, stage is yours. Iapologize for those comments. They led
(08:37):
over the payoffs. You're the bestwith What made you make those what made
you do it? Vic? Peopledon't a they not the apologies. Somebody
tear it down and then I feelyour love, feel thank love you again,
(09:05):
thank you so much. Obviously Imay have gone off the got away
from you. You got away fromit was like the Adrian beltro ceremonial first
pitch at the All Star Game,a little high and out, high and
(09:28):
inside, or it was like therewas no net behind the catcher and you
fired in ninety five mile an hourfastball and it hit the face of a
six year old oh, and everybody'slike, ooh, oh, no,
that was terrible. It's all right, Vick, We move forward. Thank
you for the opportunity to redeem.Nobody likes seeing Brody get pumped out there.
(09:52):
Vic. It's not a pretty sight. We want to just take it
out on his old man for beingan a hole. If I'm if I'm
a sidebar? Are some aer leagueshooter Alex Sar you know, the number
two pick overall in the draft?Yeah, don't care because Alex Sar's dad
didn't demand Ted Leons's draft him.And he had ten rebounds in that game.
He's six' ten. Yeah hewas oh for fifteen six. Yeah,
(10:15):
that's fine. The bottom line ishe here is here is the And
that was the most disgusting thing isthat ESPN made Sars oh for fifteen a
headline headline because it makes Brownie lookbetter? Right, if Sar goes over
fifteen and Bronnie's not in the summerleague, it's not even mentioned that that's
how hooks are in to ESPN.That deep that you have with clutch sports.
(10:41):
Bring that up. Disgusting, Yes, and you would sit there and
lead with that as a talking point, may even call for another. Is
not a good sidebarbick. You tookthe bait twa, you took the base.
That's a sidebar where like somebody blowsup, They're supposed to be talking
all quietly and somebody goes, whatGod's name approach the bench. You just
(11:03):
got an approach the bench, Vic, for your sidebar. You try to
sit there and get a sidebar.Throw some Frenchman at us. And that
guy didn't that guy play and averagelike ten points a game in a real
league last year? Yeah, theeuro A League, right, So okay,
so I can play man. He'syeah, not a bad shooting night
tonight to night. Vic, Ithink Bronnie scores ten tonight, and you're
(11:24):
just gonna you're gonna be able tojust unrel your boots like a like a
long fly fisherman, because that's whatyou want to do, right. I
would find it more like I wouldfind it more likely that someone sets a
pick and instead of cutting to thehoop for a wide open layup, Bronnie
just runs straight out the exit, just straight out the exit, never to
(11:48):
be hurt from again, like BoJackson. And that's Monday night football exactly.
I'm going. I don't need this. I don't want this. I'm
the Call of Duty Modern Warfare threechampion. I will rest on Laurel's moving
forward from that. I don't needthis in my life at nineteen years old.
I'm done with this at this point, I'd go pay per view e
J. Johnson in a full gownone on one with Brownie and see who
(12:13):
takes it. Now he's got afoot on him at least and put on
a heels. The heel is probablygonna scratch up the heartnet. Yet you're
gonna have trouble find a venue willingto put this event. UF, Come
on, mat, we got subscribers. He's headed to the celebrity boxing Realm.
That's where he's He's shaking, Vic. The poor kid is shaken.
(12:37):
How could you try to carry waterfor him by calling out the night star?
Yeah, a guy who's like eightfeet tall? How could you?
Did you think that was gonna workhere? Not at all. I'm just
I'm just relaying the facts of youknow, of cold shooting nights people have
call you know, it's not aboutthe show. I mean, yeah,
(12:58):
it is about the shooting Knights. And then there's people like me cold shooting
Lifetime and that's that's Brownie James.Yeah, the whole summer League's been an
abject failure for him. It's thestory. It's the eyeball test, and
that's the thing that really bothers me. Like we've all done this job for
a long time. All of usare smart enough to figure out what the
(13:20):
story is before you call a footballgame. Whether it's the biggest game in
the country or a small game thatonly a select few are watching, it
has a story, coach points ofemphasis which should be easily identifiable to anybody
who studied the background of the event. The story with the Laker Summer League
in context of everything that's been happening, is so easily identifiable. Yet people
(13:46):
like you pull these weird talking pointsto divert everybody. Why Vic, you're
not on their payroll. They don'tcare about you. We care about you.
Why aren't you on our side. They're not going to take you to
Italy on their yacht. You're notgoing to eat halibit next to EJ and
cookie. Why don't you come overto our side? Vic, Yeah,
fish and chips. That's what you'reeating, malt vinegar. Come on,
(14:09):
Alex Saara is seven feet tall.Yeah. Again, I have no ties
to clutch management, and you knowme, I'm rooting for the positive energy.
If there's always positive energy. Thepositive energy is to tell the truth
that this is an embarrassment to theleague, is to call out lebron James
(14:30):
for being a bad guy. Ihad a yoga teacher asked me about this
today, a kind, abundant manwho saw this as a is a terrible
thing. Bad parenting. That's whatthis is. It's bad parenting. Any
good father would do this for thisson. No. No, a selfish
father leaning into his legacy at theend of his career, would do this
(14:52):
for himself the meglomaniacal dream, notthinking the repercussions that it will have on
the longevity of a career for him. So there's no business playing basketball with
these particulars, with this particular groupof men, and changing his own legacy.
It's David Carr and the Texans rookieyear sacked seventy six times, never
(15:13):
the same. It's time for youto come over to our side, Victor.
It's time for you to get yourbindle and cross the tracks. Are
you ready? Are you ready tomake that leap of faith? You know
my love overflows for you, guys, and our love overflows for you.
(15:35):
But you don't need to tear downAlex Sar in order to build up Bronnie.
You just got to wait for theend of the game. Tonight and
hope that he performs and then youcan build him up tomorrow like you did
after the combine when you insisted uponpuffing your chest out over his shooting performance
and drills against air. You didthat, and that's fine. Some people
did that night, and we pointedout it doesn't matter, not in a
(16:00):
game. He's destined for the SouthBay. He wouldn't even be on the
Summer League team tonight if that's like, not only would he not be signed
to a partially guaranteed eight million dollardeal in a spot on the roster if
he wasn't Lebron's son, he wasn'tLebron's son, he wouldn't play tonight.
They'll have already removed him from theteam and replaced him with somebody else to
(16:23):
get a look at him over thesenext two games, especially with the lack
of effort we see up. Yeah, because there is an extreme lack of
effort. You recognize that, rightVic. You see his guy like running
down the court and getting layups, you do recognize that, right Listen,
I'm coaching the Summer League. I'mnot Dane Johnson. Now you should be
JJ Reddick. If you were coachingthe summer League. But he's got a
(16:45):
sense of entitlement too. I woulddefinitely bring Brownie off the bench so to
ease the pressure that the kids arenow, that would be my move.
I wouldn't start him with with youknow, with with connect and and and
the rest of the the starting crewof the summer league. Salient point.
(17:07):
VIC. Let him gather himself, let him take seven deep breaths, Vick.
It's time for you to come over. It's time for you to make
a sojourn. They're not on yourpayroll. And we'll send you a Rock
and Bruce gift card. We'll sendyou something to come over to our side.
Vic. You're not taking you tothe Isle of Capri. They're not
taking you to They're not doing it. You're not going to Sorrento with magic.
(17:33):
He's not going to take you,no Salerno. You show up in
your your dress whites, Vic,and they say, oh great, we're
glad you hear Vic. You're adeck boy. You think you're going on
the vacation and they're just putting youto work. You're not in that circle.
You owe them nothing. Come withus, Come down the path of
(17:55):
credibility, Vic, walk the trailof truth. You guys have always traded
on the trail of truth, fromthe PAC twelve trail to every conference.
You guys always speak the truth.Hey, I haven't worked in Conference USA
(18:17):
for a time. Is that that'sright? I'm a humble Manference us salad
days. I'm in Louisiana. HereI go. I'm a humble man and
I won't have us iterated upon herein the city and see good media people
go down with bad media people likeMason. Anybody who defends this, Matt,
(18:37):
it's indefensible. Well, I'm thehead coach of the lag of Sommer
League in Vegas. I'm I'm benchingthem. Yeah, watch the game from
really quick basket and that all ofa sudden he's got a kne injury and
he can't play for the rest ofthe summer. Ly you bench him and
then you get a call from Brownieand all of a sudden, you're the
(19:00):
Archbishop of Canterbury. Oh Lebron gota catapult. You bow is silence.
That's what you're taking. You're gonnabe stabbed, That's what's happening to you.
You gotta shake it up. Imean you o. You owe from
the arc. You haven't hit athree point shot in full games? What
(19:22):
about the lack of effort? Whatabout how he misses a three point shot
and the dude that uh, hisgardener runs down the court and gets a
layup because they know he's gonna pout. What about that? There's no excuse
for lack of hustle. And whenpeople text me like, Deuce is a
kid get a two million dollar underweardeal in college? Shut up. There's
no such thing as non professionals anymore. Everybody's gotta wear it. You must,
(19:47):
you must own the hunger. Wellhere's you must own the hunger.
Let's say you're a twenty four yearold guy from like some small college in
San Antonio and you're right on thebubble of making the NBA. I'm a
utsa roadrunner. Yeah, you're aroadrunner, Okay, Yeah, And you're
right on the bubble of the NBA, and you've been in this summer league
G league kind of circuit for twoyears. You're twenty four years old.
(20:10):
You eat bullets and spit him out, and you freaking grind for your per
diem. You're gonna let Brownie Jamesgo out there and try to pull a
move on you. No, you'regonna put your knee in his balls.
You're gonna pull his armpit hair,You're gonna punch him in the Adams apple.
This guy's got no chance. He'sbeen set up. He's been set
(20:30):
up to fail by his meglomaniacal father. I mean, he might as well
be sacrificed like Isaac Abraham's son. When is God gonna tell lebron enough,
it's fine, take him out?Geez all right, Vick, you've done
here. You can always follow. He can always follow Patrick Beverly to an
Israeli cump to you. They won'thave him. No, And you know
(20:55):
what, that's not a fair comparison. Patrick Beverly is a real NBA player
and a cat list on many teamsfor many years, and he has to
sit there and call him out likethat compared to Vanavan. He was the
Gatorade Player of the Year in thecity of Chicago Point High School. Here's
the portal until it found a portal. He couldn't get signed, obviously,
China went to China. Bronnie didn'tsquash a grape in high school and got
(21:22):
gifted the McDonald's All Stars. Hedidn't squash a grape in college and got
gifted a spot on an NBA roster. He's doing worse than not squashing the
grape in the summer League, andhe's hijacking the news cycle from real players.
How do you think people feel aboutthis, Vic, Vic, You're
on the wrong side of history.Dude, you don't want to be this
guy a Neville. Stop appeasing.Come over to our side, swift Boat.
(21:48):
You're a piece of vict If wecan't have that, don't do it.
Vic. I'm benching him tonight. There we go. Now we're talking.
Oh and Bronnie, that I wasn'tused right at SC You're going to
see me use correctly here in thesummer league. That rings really true.
Now he's really spreading the floor forhis teammates. All right, Vic,
thank you, We love you,Vick much love to you. Guys feeling
(22:11):
you in one. An amazing one, an amazing guest list are coming up
at Rock and Bruise on Friday.Oh yeah, Steve Sachs, Eric Musselman,
I'm gon say I'm excited about Bojaands A. But Bren and Rice
Sheeene Simmons all joining the show onFriday. So that is a great guest.
Let's vic thank you, We've takenour pleasure with your orifices, and
that we were moving on tomorrow.Yeah, the year canals get him ready?
(22:41):
Yes, I think it could beeasily done. Great sports Talk will
continue your great sports talk. Booh, we'll join us next, David Vassa.
A little later, we got topstories, college whips, film noir,
great sports talk. We ain't gotno problem of content, you bitches.
(23:02):
Mitch, Mitch, bet youhow somebodyam five to seventy LA Sports Live
everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. Wewould love to see you on Friday twenty
twenty four PMS Summer Tour stop numberthree including high noon Hard Seltzer. They
got real Vodkin Realize tea this summer, no carbonation, no added sugar.
(23:27):
Chef Medito, the chef is inyou. Seasonings are in the seasoning package.
Well, joining us right now.You know this guy's a really close
friend of a fully functional employee,Adam. Is that right? Well that's
right, because he was on theClippers beat for a while. I said
something to the effect of, hey, you think we can get Booja and
he was like I'm very close withBoojah deny you boo hops ye, so
(23:53):
joining us right now on the SouthernCalifornia. Tell you to do the celebrity
hotline it is. He's got youall in check. There's only one Jovann
Buja. He covers the NBA andhe knows what we're watching in the Summer
League. Will he say it?We'll find out. And you know,
(24:15):
hey, those Clippers looked great lastnight too, Jan? And what about
that for fifteen from the French sevenfoot? Or wow? If you're gonna
bring up brown, he bring upAlex Saar. Yeah, okay, No,
I don't need to do that.I want to do it. I
don't even know who he is.I don't get spoon fed every good highlight
that he has like a baby beingregurgitated through its beak, a little penguin
(24:38):
or something. It's Jovann Boujan onthe Petro some money show. What's cracking,
Jovann? How are you? I'mdoing well, guys, Thank you
for having me. What are welooking at? Jovann? What are we
seeing out there? Bouja? Whatdo you see out there? But what's
the real story out there? Youguys are looking for a Dalton Connect.
That's uh, that's what you guysare watching for whatever I turned on,
but I don't turn on. That'snot the story. Those aren't the headlines.
(25:00):
You know what the story is aboutthe Connect gang. I know what
the story is. Yeah, thestory is Bronnie James. And it well
because of his last name, rightand because it's the Lakers, and I
mean you getting into Las Vegas,he was there with your guys. Boys
saw it was Brownie James and andhorror on the face of summer League.
(25:25):
So yeah, I mean, look, there's no denying. It's been rough.
You know, he has not madea three pointer yet. He has
had I mean, there's a coupleof air balls last game, though Lakers
Summer League coach Dame Johnson felt thatthat was more to do with Bronnie getting
a couple of grenades at the endof a possession where someone just kicked the
ball to him and he had tofling something up. But yeah, like,
(25:49):
there's no denying. No one saysthat about anybody else ever. I
never heard that about anybody else. Here's here's my thing, though I'm personally
not very surprised. I think anyoneelse that, you know, because I
see everything on social media. Itry not to, but I see a
lot of it, and there's been, you know, I've seen comments of
(26:10):
like, well, why don't theyrun offense for him, or why don't
they give the ball to him?Like that's just not who Brownie is at
this stage of his career. Likehe is a kick the ball out and
he takes an open three, oroccasionally he'll break someone off the dribble in
these kind of like random possessions. But for the most part, he is
clearly a role player offensively and thendefensively. I think there's been some flashes
(26:32):
of him battling bigger guys in thepost or steals or you know, he
had some nice plays, especially theCali Classic, But but it's it's the
development, and I think anyone whoexpected otherwise just had unrealistic expectations, because
if you watched him at USC,he clearly was still finding his footing on
both sides of the ball. Istill think he's rather raw as a prospect,
(26:55):
and he still has a ways togo to being an NBA caliber even
like back end rotation players. SoI think he's going to spend a lot
of year in the G League.I think he will probably have to spend
a lot of next year in theG League, barring some unforeseen progress and
development. So like it's going tobe a process, and this could even
(27:15):
be a multi year process. Butanyone expecting him to come out and kill
it from day one or game onein summer League, I think that was
just setting him up to fail. And obviously, given the name and the
pedigree and all that, like, there's going to be a certain level of
attention and scrutiny, and there aregoing to be a certain level of expectations
(27:37):
with him. I just don't Ithink realistically, like as you've been,
probably a little bit worse than theexpectations I had. Like, yes,
I think at least on the offensiveend, but I think I didn't expect
him to come out and be likea twenty point per game scorer and like
justify the contract. From the beginningof this, I always thought this was
going to be a longer process andif not a multi year process. So
(28:00):
from that perspective, like, again, has he you know, underachieved I
would say yes, But at thesame time, I don't think like that
there was this high bar necessarily justbased on what we saw at USC,
based on him going at number fiftyfive, and just based on what we
knew, like this was not hewas not a guy who's going to have
these like I catching numbers and whatnot, Like he's not been that player since
(28:22):
high school so far. So Ido think that there's still a bit of
a learning curve there and we needto give it a little bit more time
before we make a final assessment onwho he is or what he could be.
Yeah, I think the you know, you've addressed it a little bit
there, and I think you didn'taddress it directly, which is no big
deal. I mean, I thinka lot of people, you know,
can can connect the dots that thiswas. He was drafted because Lebron wanted
(28:45):
him drafted, He came out becausehis dad wanted him to come out,
and he's on the Lakers because hisdad wants it to be on his you
know, legacy retirement. You knowpiece that he was the first guy who
have ever played with his son inthe NBA in an actual game. It's
selfish and whatever it is what itis. But from a basketball standpoint,
Yovann as someone who covers this team, who knows the Gems that Nick Mazella
(29:08):
finds, the Alex Carusos, theAustin Reeves. What I'm wondering is because
that roster spot now belongs to him, they cannot fill it with somebody else.
Are they missing out? Is theresomebody out this Traiory kid? Is
there someone that's not going to makethe team because they chose to take care
of Lebron James and draft his sonand give him a guaranteed contract. Is
(29:32):
it that big of a mistake thatit could end up costing them a spot
for someone that could make a differencepotentially, You know, I don't think
you can rule that out. Likewith Traiore and Blake Hinson, those guys
are two of their new two waycontracts, so they will have an opportunity
to play during the season, anddepending on what happens with the back end
(29:53):
of the roster, they can alwaysclear a roster spot to sign one of
those guys if they if they wantto. But I even look at a
guy like tarre Uh. You knowyou've seen flashes from him, certainly,
but his brother is a projected lotterypick in next year's draft, And like
that's an example of like I mean, because of who Lebron is and because
(30:17):
of who Bronny is, I thinkthere's a microscope on this. But you
can go through like recent like theKnicks signed j R. Smith's brother,
and his brother was not an NBAcaliber player at the time. Dnasis onto
the Kumpo has been in the leaguefor a bit because largely because of the
(30:37):
honest and and you know, hedecided a couple of moments as like a
rotation guy. But for the mostpart, I don't think he would be
on a lot of rosters. Youcould look at the Warriors keeping around Damian
Lee, who is married to StephCurry's sister, And then you could even
look in like the front office situationwith the Knicks of Leon Rose, you
know, used to rep Rick Brunson, and Rick Brunson's Jalen bro since that,
(31:00):
and then his agent is Sam Rose, who's Leon Rose's son, And
like this whole concept of like nepotismand sports is very prevalent. It just
so happens that Lebron is Lebron andthere's like this this extra magnification on it.
So it's not to justify it byany means. I'm just saying like
these things happen, Like there areguys on the back end of a lot
of rosters that don't necessarily belong onthem. Now with Bronny obviously, like
(31:26):
he struggled, and it could likeI think the Lakers have had multiple things
go against them where looking at theguys from last year, Jalen Huch if
you know, Maxwell lewis neither one. I mean Jalen isn't even playing yet,
he's still recovering from a back injury. But you know, those are
a couple of spots that are beingtaken up. Browny obviously, I don't
think it's gonna be a rotation guy. And then they have these player options
(31:48):
guys opt in Cam Reddish, ChristianWood, Jackson Hayes, and like they
have several spots on this roster thatare probably not rotation caliber guys. And
seeing a guy like Gary Trent Juniorgo for the minimum to Milwaukee, like
that's where it really stings. Aguy that Gary Trent Junior could really help
the Lakers. So, I mean, it certainly is a factor. I'm
not going to say like him,Like I think he's probably more of a
(32:10):
two way guy, right, Likebased on what we've seen and even then
that might be a little generous, but like, like he's played more like
a two way guy than an actualroster spot guy. But at the same
time, his dad is his dad, and like it's just based on like
the recent history of how teams havecatered to their stars, Like this is
very much in line with that.It just so happens that again, he's
(32:34):
been in the spotlight for a decade. But kind of focus on it more.
You know that there's all of thosestories you just mentioned and you had
to dig hard for him, likeyou're at the beach with the sand with
the detective. Yeah, those guysare still around, and then there's this
story, right, I mean, and you you've alluded to that. So
my question, I guess is youknow this doesn't happen in a vacuum.
(32:57):
The entire NBA sees is the entireNBA season targets this poor young man.
I don't know how anybody on theteam feels about him, or how people
are interacting. I'm sure they allfreaked out and feel like they're working for
Bronny in the first place, Imean lebron in the first place. And
this only has to make it weirder. I mean much. How many bad
decisions can you afford us a franchiseif you're the Lakers and now this this
(33:22):
is the biggest story. It's anelephant in the room for no good reason.
Yeah, I mean look like andto be clear, I'm not disagreeing
with you guys. I'm just layingout that I feel like they feel that.
It's more just like I feel likethat there's this narrative out there that
like teams back end, the rostersdon't have some element of like nepotism or
(33:42):
cronyism or you know, sometimes it'sas simple as just, uh, the
same agent as the star And you'veseen that with the Lakers with guys from
Clutch of certain guys have gotten certaincontracts or whatnot because of that. But
you've seen it other teams have. You know, if you're a star player
as a certain agent and that's apower agent, they can get one of
their clients a contract on your roster. So I just more so I feel
(34:07):
like people are kind of cherry,Like I get the the optics and it's
such a high profile story, soI understand why it's being paid more attention
to. I just also want toprovide kind of the counterpoint of like this
isn't necessarily rare. It's just thatbecause he's been he's been a prospect for
since he was a little kid andall through high school being followed at Sierra
(34:27):
Canyon and like all this stuff,So like I get why it's such a
big story. I just also Idon't think this is necessarily a situation that
is unique in so far as likethis stuff always plays in a part.
And it's not like he didn't getsome like you know, four year,
eighty million dollar deal or something likethat. It's it was spot just because
they have got a guys, youknow, you know, it's it's hurt.
(34:52):
Like I think the back end ofthe roster, Like I like the
Lakers top eight or nine and beyondthat, I don't like the rest of
the roster. Right, Bronnie isincluded in that group. And I look
at like some of these other teamsin the West that just can go ten,
eleven, twelve deep. And it'slike if you have an injury to
a lebron or an ad or evensomebody you know, Austin Reeves, Jared
(35:13):
Vanderbilt, whoever, like all ofa sudden you're relying on guys who aren't
ready, So like it's certainly afactor. Like the Lakers have mismanaged,
in my opinion, the back endof this roster, and that's why,
I mean, they could make aconsolidation trade where they trade a couple of
these minimum guys with like a secondround pick and open up some roster flexibility.
Day for whatever reason, I've chosenout to do that, and I
think it's a mistake. I thinkthey need to improve the back end of
(35:36):
the roster, and obviously Brownie isa part of that, but they're not
going to trade Bronnie. They're notgoing to cut Bronnie like it is what
it is. He's a part ofthe roster. So from like, they
need to explore other avenues to dothat. But yeah, I mean,
like he's a longer term project.And I think it's a situation where if
we're looking at this from like twoyears from now, and what we're having
the same conversation in twenty twenty sixand Bronnie has not shown any substantial growth
(36:01):
and still is not a rotation caliberguy, I think it's it's fair to
hammer the situation. I think it'sfair to hammer the contract and we'll see
where the Lakers are at that point. But I think for now he was
always going to be a project, and anyone who thought otherwise, like and
was going to view him through thelines of like, can't he contribute year
(36:21):
one? He's not going to contributeyear one, Like as things stand,
that's just, you know, unlesshe becomes a much better shooter and a
better defender and a better ball handlerlike that, there's all these steps that
he has to take to become anactual, like rotation caliber guy that I
just don't think it's going to happenwithin the next year. And through that
lens, I'm you know, it'sjust it's also like that they are saving
some money with the contract technically becausehe's making less than like a vet minimum
(36:45):
guy. So like you will seeteams, he's not the only late sac
a round pick to get traded.Yeah, it's look, I get it,
I get it. I just Ithink like at some level, like
Lebron, Lebron has the power rightto do what he's done, and then
he did it, so apparently.I mean, that's that's crazy. That's
the crazy thing. He has thepower, But is there another NBA franchise
(37:07):
that would allow a forty year oldplayer to hijack their their team like this,
I think so, I think anylike I think I need to if
Lebron had left, you know, the one team that cap space that you
know could have signedhim would have beenPhilly. I'm sure if he went to
Philly would and they'd be like sure, Yeah, So I think that's like
(37:30):
again, it's like you you bringin Chris Smith to appease j R.
Smith, you bring in the NASAsto I mean Lakers did this previously with
with coastas onto the compo what theyhad the pipe dream of of eventually getting
Giannis to come to l A.So like again, I mean the guaranteed
contract in the four years like thatis obviously a little more of an exception
(37:53):
compared to that, but like actuallyhaving a ross like I don't want to
say wasting a is just such astrong word, but like spending a roster
spot on a player who is twoyears away. Yeah no, look like
the one thing I do, youknow, I don't have feels like I'm
kaping for Bonnie right now. Wedon't mean to put you on the hot
(38:15):
seat. You know, it's fine. I just but the one thing,
like at least from talking to peoplefrom from the Lakers of what they see
and what their vision is is like, this was a guy who, before
his heart situation, was a projectedfirst round pick by yes men and was
in a McDonald's All American And ifhe didn't have the name that he had,
(38:37):
he wouldn't have been like projected firstround pick and he wouldn't have been
potentially right. But but I thinkthere's like a different there's a different way
this story plays out of like, this was a guy who was projected to
go in the first round of thisdraft. He ends up having this like
horrific traumatic situation happened, and thisteam is taking a chance on him at
the back end of the draft, and it's it's a very low low risk
(39:00):
takes. It's a very low riskbecause right now, if you replace Brownie
with an actual vet minimum player, the Lakers are over there are only forty
five thousand dollars under that second apronso even by you know, and that's
partly because of the other ways theymismanaged, just for also with the player
options they gave out last summer oflike if you just replace like take Bronnie
off, put Gary Trent Junior on, You're over the second apron and all
(39:22):
of a sudden, there's all theserestrictions. So like in a way,
like Bronnie's contract is actually saving theLakers unless they just didn't have a player
in that spot like period, it'sreally some of the other contracts. Now
again in general, like that spotis being taken by a player who isn't
going to contribute next season, sothat hurts their their depths, it hurts
their flexibility. But I just Idon't know. It's a tricky situation.
(39:45):
I'll tell you what, Jovann. It hurts my basketball soul, that's what
it hurts. We appreciate it,I got it. This is a good
thing if you think about it.Yeah, deep down, deep down good
inside. It doesn't it doesn't affectany you know this whole thing. Yeah,
that's and affect anybody's attitude about anything. We appreciate you. Boo ha,
you've done a great job. Yeahyou did. Is gonna go sit
(40:10):
in the corner with Vic. Oh, he's gonna chat with fully functional employee
Adam right now. You know whatAdams saying, Oh, you missed the
Clippers, don't you. Yeah,so straightforward didn't have to jump through these
hoops. We appreciate Yovan. Hewas not a projected first round pick.
(40:35):
That was ESPN doing lebron of faitha solid. He was not a McDonald's
All American. That was was theHamburglar was a crime. He stole the
Hamburgler, stole the spot, andhe should not be drilling him, and
he gave it to Brony. Noneof those three things should have happened.
This is worse than thanisis or anybodyelse. Well, it's not as bad
as Coast Us or j R.Smith's kid, or Coast Us or anybody
(40:58):
else. I don't want to hearit, and I don't want to hear
about Sorr. This what about ismis not going to get these people out
of being on the wrong side ofhistory. We got a four hour show.
Well that just took the wind outof my sales. It's like I
was playing with my brother's kids. You know, I gotta sit down with
(41:22):
Lebron before the season FS one launchingout. Check it out. That's Bill
Ryder word number saw. On topof the hour, we got some Textelso's
next Keep it Lit City stay withus, whole bunch of prizes on site,
(41:43):
giving away like a fifty inch TVfive, pair of tickets to Sunday's
Dodgers Red Sox game, and awhole bunch more so, we'd love to
see you. I was ready tospar with Boja a little bit and let
it ride. But then when hesaid when he brought up the heart thing,
and then he brought up the McDonald'sall American thing, which should have
(42:04):
never happened, and he brought upthat Givoni guy that you brought up,
Matt. Yeah, that written lebronsickaphant, he lost some credibility with me.
I'm not saying I'm gonna demand thatmy voiceover be taken out of his
podcast intro. But so there aremany prisms through which to view Lebronny James
(42:25):
selection. We view it one way. Booha simply views it another. Yeah,
he views it in that I don'twant to screw up my Laker connection,
and now I can't let these guyspee all over Bronnie. He doesn't
work on the Petrosen money beat.He works on the Laker beat. Ay,
you're right. When fully functional employeeAdam hung up the phone though,
and pounded his chest twice with hisfist and then put his finger in the
(42:45):
air. Oh, Matthew McConaughey,it was almost like an rip Booha.
He's never coming on again. We'llreplay it and that'll be the last time
we'll hear from Bouhan till na.Well, when the chips are down,
you know, another four hour showdown the road, a couple months with
all our kates on social media,he'll be back, all of us,
matt Use us as a platform,Use us as a platform to make yourself
(43:07):
look good. Take a moral highground against the petrol some money show.
We're not having it. Look atthis text because the guys like you,
Adam, we get text brought toyou by your so called Toyota dealers.
We make it easy. Oh weread about it in the papers, all
right, almost like you and thekillings. Damn essay, it looks like
(43:31):
you two holes just got put incheck by Booh. He says, Brody's
here to stay, like it ornot. The King will have his way,
and he's gonna have his way withhim. Cheeks, if you don't
start paying your reverence forcible rape threatenedforcible rape Adam. That's what happens when
(43:52):
you put you, you put Boohan, and there's gonna be a certain segment
of our listenership that's like, yeah, boo eyes taking it to them.
Got to balance the scales, thescales of basketball justice. You know,
I'm all right with it. Webattled. We didn't sit and take it.
We pushed back. We did itfreaking Wally George style. He was
(44:15):
in the hot seat, and wepushed back. Called him a communist,
he called us fascists. Well aswell. Go to commercial break and everything's
fine. Have a cup of decafcoffee in the green room. No no,
(44:44):
I'm tired of being penetrated in myno no zone. I'm tired of
it. Don't. We don't livein an echo chamber. We appreciate point
counterpoint on this program. It's fine. But when he brought up when he
brought up the McDonald's, and wepushed back, and we brought up in
high school, it's like, didyou watch him play in high school?
Boo ha, It's okay, it'sall right. Gotleib's right. He couldn't
(45:09):
get on the field if Green Baywas come No. And then Dan Patrick
and Gottlieb got in a fight.Did you hear that? No, what
happened? I heard it this morning, dude, he was on this morning.
No, I was on hold thismorning going to the pros and a
Cup and show at four fifty fivein the morning. And it was a
clip best of and it was likethis Dan Patrick was talking about Brownie and
(45:37):
he was talking about what Gottlieb said. And he's like, Gottlieb said this,
and he found a way to promotehis own team. Blah blah blah
blah blah, Dad Patrick, let'sdo a poll, right, and then
bang here No, here comes theGodlieb sound on the Gottlieb Show, back
and forth on fs all and Gottliebgoes, you know, Dan could have
just texted me. I don't knowwhy I had used my name like that.
(45:57):
Could have just texted me. AndI told him he was asking him.
I was like, whoa, whoa, it's not just us getting mad
about Bronnie James. You got Gottliebon Patrick crime, Patrick on Gottlieb,
No text, no text. ShowRats, it's deaf, Steve, sit
down and get in front of thebank. Show Rats, It's health Today,
Open the phone lights. So thereyou go. Lot going on now,
(46:22):
first of four hours. You stillgot three hours to go. The
tone has been set. David Vassawill join us at bottom of the next
hour show. Hail Tani had athree run longer in the All Star Game
yesterday. I got a number. You think you're pissed off right now?
I got a number of the day. You're gonna go midnight to six?
(46:45):
Is gonna set a flame in youresophagus that will not be tamed. The
number of the day, Yes,like in an angry way. Yes,
I'm already angry. What is itabout electric bikes? Oh? No,
because it's a sports take. Oh, it's a sports take that when I
(47:07):
read it this morning, my gagreflex came. Couldn't be worse than with
Booja just spread all over the manure. He just spread all over our field.
It's worse. What's that smell?Oh Booja was here spreading manure.
Come on, he said he's twoyears away. He said he may spend
(47:30):
two years in the And then youjumped on his back like a chicken fight,
and you said he's two years awayfrom being two years away. And
I'm the bad guy, I did, but I did it while he was
on with us. I'm disgusted.I don't have to sit there and pull
my punches with Bouja. He's notold and frail like Vic. A punch
(47:50):
right through his old face. Ohwe got a well you're upset now you
just wait, you just wait. This is really gonna trigger my radio partner.
This is gonna be great. Ohno, this has to be addressed.
This has to be this is Thisisn't just the two of this,
This is the entire show. Thishas outreach beyond the show. This affects
(48:12):
all of us. This affects allof us dude listeners, other radio shows,
this on this station, on theiHeartRadio app, it affects everyone.
It's a real double middle finger thateverybody. It's not gonna affect Fred out
there in the desert, is it? No? Okay? Because it is
amazing that Fred does a show here, but he can't podcast his own show
(48:34):
on the iHeart app because he's outof the geopres right number, saw you
today night? He could just notthe Dodger games,
