the players I just had in thespring and seeing how they're doing. That's
kind of the first priority. Andthen you know, because the Clippers are
such a veteran laden team that noneof their main guys playing summer league,
and it's a lot of guys thatprobably aren't going to be on the roster.
I watch it, but I don'tmake sure I tune in, but
I've watched a couple of their games. But yeah, it's something I pay

attention to, but more so kindof selfishly with the guys I have and
how they're doing. What is thelevel, you know, like, what
is like for guys like us thatI mean we understand the levels of basketball
only so well as opposed to anexpert. What is the level of the
Summer League as opposed to what thereal NBA is like, as opposed to

NBA preseason or the G League stufflike that. It's somewhere near the NBA
regular season. I think it's evenprobably a step below the G League.
It depends on the team. Imean, there are teams in the Summer
League that have some good young playerson it, just they don't always play
like Hockey has played two games andI think he's done now. So the
good young players that have established themselvesas rookies will come back and play.

Jordan Hawkins, another kid we had, play a couple of games and then
shut it down. But the levelis what's interesting about watching it. If
you're asking, I'm not sure exactlywhat the level is, but when watching
players in the Summer League, youjust see that there's not a lot of
understanding of how to play the game. There's not a lot of understanding of

changes speed and direction in terms ofhow you play. And it's the speed
that you play at. Everybody's playinga million miles an hour. Everybody's not
interested in spacing and running offense andmoving the ball. It's more in ISO,
and so it's hard to evaluate guysin that environment because they're not playing

with pro So if I'm watching theguy playing in basically a pickup game,
how do I understand how that translatesto a real NBA game where guys understand
all those things I just said.But it's a great opportunity for some of
these young guys in the real opportunityfor me in looking at teams, especially

play in front of all the otherpeople watching, not only other teams,

NBA. But if you're a twoway guy to start, you know,
or a G League guy to start, it is a long road. If

to do with the rest of yourlife. Because you bring all that money

pay in general with your job atCAAA and your job with the Clippers and
all that, to the summer leagueand how it works, and how much
attention are you paying this year?I typically error towards the side of watching

the players I just had in thespring and seeing how they're doing. That's
kind of the first priority. Andthen you know, because the Clippers are
such a veteran laden team that noneof their main guys playing summer league,
and it's a lot of guys thatprobably aren't going to be on the roster.
I watch it, but I don'tmake sure I tune in, but
I've watched a couple of their games. But yeah, it's something I pay
(27:12):
attention to, but more so kindof selfishly with the guys I have and
how they're doing. What is thelevel, you know, like, what
is like for guys like us thatI mean we understand the levels of basketball
only so well as opposed to anexpert. What is the level of the
Summer League as opposed to what thereal NBA is like, as opposed to
(27:33):
NBA preseason or the G League stufflike that. It's somewhere near the NBA
regular season. I think it's evenprobably a step below the G League.
It depends on the team. Imean, there are teams in the Summer
League that have some good young playerson it, just they don't always play
like Hockey has played two games andI think he's done now. So the
good young players that have established themselvesas rookies will come back and play.

Jordan Hawkins, another kid we had, play a couple of games and then
shut it down. But the levelis what's interesting about watching it. If
you're asking, I'm not sure exactlywhat the level is, but when watching
players in the Summer League, youjust see that there's not a lot of
understanding of how to play the game. There's not a lot of understanding of

changes speed and direction in terms ofhow you play. And it's the speed
that you play at. Everybody's playinga million miles an hour. Everybody's not
interested in spacing and running offense andmoving the ball. It's more in ISO,
and so it's hard to evaluate guysin that environment because they're not playing

with pro So if I'm watching theguy playing in basically a pickup game,
how do I understand how that translatesto a real NBA game where guys understand
all those things I just said.But it's a great opportunity for some of
these young guys in the real opportunityfor me in looking at teams, especially
players that are playing for established teamsthat are contenders, is the opportunity to

play in front of all the otherpeople watching, not only other teams,
but in Europe, and there's athere's a there's a million scouts there from
from teams in Europe. And ifyou're a friends NBA guy, I've always
said this, and people have askedme players that aren't going to be drafted
that are you know a best twoway guys? Everyone's so reluctant to go
(29:29):
overseas. And I get it thatthat your dream has always been in the
NBA. But if you're a twoway guy to start, you know,
or a G League guy to start, it is a long road. If
you're going to make it to theNBA. Yes, there are examples,
but why not the idea of goingover to another country for ten twelve years,
(29:51):
making enough money, come back andthen you can decide what you want
to do with the rest of yourlife. Because you bring all that money
back, you don't pay for anything. They pay for your car, your
house, everything, And so there'splenty of examples of that of guys to
just say, you know what,I think I'm good enough to make the
NBA, but I'll probably not,So let me go make a career out
of this somewhere else and come backand have a nice life when I get

back. Yeah, no doubt.Like you said, they're all auditioning for
different levels of play, and oneof those guys very well could have been
Brownie James, but he was givenyou know, eight million bucks or seven
point seven million dollars and a guaranteedroster spot earned. Don do you I'm
sure you've heard some of it atleast do you think it's fair Like we

had Yo ban Buja yesterday. Right, he's a Laker beat rider and he
was trying to spin it positive.But even as he was trying to spin
it as positive as possible, AndI'm sure this is him in Las Vegas,
hearing from scouts that he's interviewing beforehe writes his articles. He said,
look, if you're based on ifwe're based on what we see,
not only is he not a fouryear, guaranteed contract guy, he might

not be a two way play atthis point with the way that he's played,
and might not be on a summerleague roster for every game based on
his play. Do you think that'sfair? Is it fair to judge Brownie
on how he's played in this setting? Well, now he's in the setting.
Look, we talked about this before. If he wasn't Bronnie James,

he wouldn't have been the fifty fifthpick. I guaranteed that he would not
have been drafted. So then thenit becomes if you're undrafted, do you
get a two way contract? Areyou just a G league guy? That's
a decision for a team. Buthe got the opportunity by being drafted fifty
fifth. That's the gift he wasgiven or earned, however you want to

look at it. But I thinkit's unfair if you get past that,
I think it's unfair to judge himjust on these three or four or five
summer league games, however many he'splayed, because he has gone better.
He played well yesterday, and Ithink he's going to be given the opportunity
to get better. But I thinkwe can all the people that understand this
and know it and are part ofit, that he would not have gotten

drafted had he not been Ronnie James. But he did, and they gave
him that contract, not a twoway deal, a full roster standard contract,
and so now it's up to himto get better and prove people wrong.
And I think I don't think that'ssuch a crazy thing that he's being
given this opportunity to get better.Now. The discussion will be in two

years. If he hasn't gotten better, if he's still the same player,
if he's still not affecting the game, he's still not a great shooter,
then I think you could start topile on and say, you know what,
they should have never drafted him,He never could en out, should
have been it. You can sayall those things, but I don't think
it's fair to say it right now. After a few John overall, when

it comes to the situation at SCwe talked about how it's a situation where
there's a little highlight and he getsthe headline and it might rub some people
the wrong way at the college level, and you talked about that with us
last season. How does that workin a pro environment? Obviously Lebron James

it's got to create some resentment,I think on a certain level.

round picks, they're almost always flyers. They're international guys that you'll stash for
