Oh boy, it's time for the final hour of fun Fact.
In effect, it's the yeah we're three fun facts. Well,
we focus on New Zealand. They were in Australia.
Speaker 3 (03:39):
I believe they pronounced it melboyn.
Speaker 1 (03:42):
The record for the fastest cancelation of a television show
belongs to nineteen eighty nine's Australia's Naughtiest Home Videos, a
spinoff of Australia's Funniest Home Videos. Now, there have been
plenty of shows canceled after just one episode, and Joe
buck sarendipitous.
Speaker 3 (04:03):
Here.
Speaker 1 (04:04):
Mark Wahlberg's Breaking Boston canceled after one episode, but program
director of Australia's nine network was watching the show he
had never seen before it aired on his network, Australia's
Naughtiest Home Videos during dinner, and was so offended after
about twenty minutes that he called the station and said, quote,
(04:27):
get these ace off the and a continuity officer had
to break in saying they were experiencing technical difficulties and
ran an episode of Cheers for the remainder of the
time slot.
Speaker 4 (04:40):
Very Howard Hughes, like, you'd think that that's what the
New Zealand Prime Minister would have done when they saw
the guy.
Speaker 1 (04:47):
Say, home boy boy, time for quick hits. Everybody looks
quick hits. Come make it quick, y'all.
Speaker 4 (05:00):
Yeah, Dodger's still at home point sixty six and forty
seven winners at three in a row. They're home tonight
versus Dallas. I mean, excuse me, Phillies. I'm so confused.
Speaker 1 (05:13):
About Clayton wants to pitch in Dallas, but the Dodgers
keep giving him tens of millions of dollars to not
pitch in Dallas. Keeps snapping in my face. Clayton Kershaw's
on the mound old Man River. First pitch at seven ten.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Sorts of seven, start seven ten here for a long time.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
That's right, Clayton.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
He don't pat plant taters and he don't plant cotton.
Clayton Kershaw pitches for the Dodgers. Boy, and the guys
that Clayton Kershaw played with when he first became a
Dodger are long forgotten.
Speaker 1 (05:42):
Home Boy, you know what, The game may start at
seven to ten. Hey, Clayton, Let's make sure the freaking
fire works for the Phillies don't start until ten. Okay, Oho, comeboy?
Speaker 3 (05:55):
Wait, ye, yes, the good does.
Speaker 5 (05:58):
Man, And yeah, I'm glad that you go stay in
the past.

The Niners have trade frameworks involving wide receiver and Arizona
(06:28):
State sun devil Brandon Ayuk. With the Browns and the Pats.
It's up to Ayuk if you want to accept their
contract terms.
Speaker 1 (06:36):
Home boy, I think he's making fourteen million this year.
He wants to at least double that, and apparently the
Browns and the Patriots are willing to do such a
deal for Are you some one?
Speaker 4 (06:51):
You better double that and double that again? He Charles
Barkley Senate a statement he's not going to retire. He
will continue to work with TNT Sports for years to come.
Whether or not they have the NBA or not, they'll
do something.
Speaker 1 (07:08):
Hey, Charles, you know we signed you to that ten
year deal a couple of years ago, and we're paying
at twenty million bucks a year, and you know, even
with no NBA, we'll still honor that contract.

Speaker 4 (09:47):
The Poles arrived at the Olympics in a submarine with

in the discus.
Speaker 1 (10:00):
Talk. Caroline Marks Yes took golds in surfing for the US. Yeah,
Rissamore in Tokyo and now Caroline Marx in France. La
last metal count. USA leads all nations with seventy nine medals.
Speaker 3 (10:15):

Speaker 1 (10:36):

Speaker 1 (11:01):
This is great, Pitbull scratching out a giant check to FIU.
Let's go Panthers, I mean, come on. Football Stadium naming
rights signed a five year deal UH six million bucks
one point two million per season from Pitbull just to
name FIU Stadium Pitbull Stadium. Give the program some scratch
(11:26):
to work with. Let's go Panthers. Everybody's got to wear
fingerless gloves other than that pretty good deal for Florida International.
They got a dance on the sideline in a very
angry and aggressive manner. You know, like you think you're
having a good time because we're like at this party
and here's this cool beat.
Speaker 3 (11:44):
But you just got like this skull on your face
and you're just like pump on your fist.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Like.
Speaker 1 (11:50):
Central Michigan's gonna feel that anger. Seventh to three.
Speaker 3 (11:54):
Did you guys see this story about Pitbull?
Speaker 1 (11:55):
How much you got paid to go to the SEC
University of Texas kickoff party last month.
Speaker 3 (12:00):
I'm gonna get six million dollars. It lines up real nice,
six hundred thousand dollars.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
Wow, there we go. Still good money for Pitbull.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Absolutely. You get up there and you pump that fist.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
Yeah, just pump it hard. He really pumped up that
NASCAR race when La was out the Collie.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Oh man, La was out.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
He pumped it hard so hard. We'll be back with

(13:44):
and now here he is lawyers in the world of
great sports talk. River Ryan straight out of UNC Pennbroke,
Let's Go Braves and joining the Petrosen Money Show on
the Southern California Toyota Dealers Celebrity Hotline. River, Welcome to
the show.
Speaker 2 (13:58):
How are you good man? How you doing?
Speaker 4 (14:01):
Oh, we're doing really good. We're excited that you're on. Uh,
just give us an overview of what the last few
weeks have been like and Uh, being on the big
league team and performing the way you have it must be.
Speaker 1 (14:13):
A lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
Oh, yeah, it's been. It's been a real blessing. It's
a really good group of guys here in l A.
So a lot of vets. Definitely trying to learn everything
I can from them. But yeah, playing well the past
past few starts and it's been awesome. It's been a
really fun ride so far. Looking to looking to keep
(14:35):
it going.
Speaker 3 (14:36):
Uh, you mentioned learn from them? What have you? Can
you like share anything that you've learned.
Speaker 1 (14:40):
I would imagine it's a lot different sitting around, you know,
between every five or six days whatever you're pitching and
watching how these guys go about it. Anything kind of
jump out at you.
Speaker 2 (14:51):
Uh yeah, definitely how they approach some hitters. You know,
you got guys in the lineup that have really good power,
some guys that are more contact that you can kind
of approach a little differently. But yeah, talk to Glass
a little bit, talk to Bueler a little bit, and
just trying to find out how they approach some of
these guys and what their mentality is on the mound
(15:15):
and just kind of use it. Use it in my starts.
Speaker 1 (15:18):
When you like, when you're good enough to pitch in
in the majors and and you're down in the minors
whatever level it might be, are you just kind of
throwing and working on your pitches, And how much does
like the way you pitch, like your your game day change,
like you said, when you have to maybe kind of
think about less how talented you are throwing the ball
and more about exactly how you're going to make this
(15:38):
and how much different is that like when you're you know,
when you're in the league.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Well, every time I take the mound, you know, everything
I do out there is for the glory of God,
and it's everything everything is for him. I leave everything
I got out there on the mound doesn't matter if
I'm pitching in a minor league game or major league game.
I feel like i'd I'd be cheating him if I
didn't give it everything I had. So every time I
take them ount I try to do the best I
(16:04):
possibly can be able to look myself in the mirror
at the end of the day and said and say
I gave it all. I gave it all I had.
So yeah, that's kind of the mentality every time I
take the bump.
Speaker 4 (16:13):
God's still watching and Okac the Great River Ryan is
joining us right now. The Petrosi Money Show on AMI
seventy LA Sports talk a little bit about the slow
rollout this season. Was it due to injury or to
save innings to keep you fresh for the second half, because, man,
you sure have been a blessing to the team performing
(16:34):
the way you have at this point in the year.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
Yeah, I appreciate it very much. No, last year twenty
twenty three, I threw almost one hundred and ten innings maybe,
which was I was coming up on tripling my amount
of innings from the previous year. So at the end
of the year my arm was pretty fatigued. Over the offseason,
I was still you know, trying to recover going into
(17:00):
spring training, I was just trying to rehab and build
up some arm strength to get ready for the year.
So we definitely took it slow in that area. But yeah,
now we're here, everything's right his reign.
Speaker 1 (17:13):
So, oh yeah, you have.
Speaker 4 (17:15):
Done a lot of hitting leading up to your major
league career. Do you do you miss that part of
the game, and do you still have any wood bats?
And do you look at Otani with jealousy?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Avarice?
Speaker 2 (17:31):
I definitely miss hitting. That's the reason I fell in
love with the game of baseball. Squaring up, squaring up
the ball, there's no feeling like it. Seeing it sail
over the fence is a pretty unbelievable feeling. But I
definitely miss it. But the Lord had different plans for me,
and here I am pitching for the LA Dodgers at
(17:53):
the age of twenty five. But no, I'm not jealous
of show. Hey, I just I'm just kind of in
all the things you can do. The guy can hit
a ball one hundred and twenty miles an hour of
the bat and throw the ball over one hundred miles
an hour of the mount So that's, uh, that's pretty fun.
To watch.
Speaker 1 (18:09):
So you uh, you mentioned just kind of the innings
and the fatigue and tripling your your workload. You know,
we we're old, at least I'm old. I'll put it
just on myself, and I just kind of think back
to growing up and watching guys like Jack Morris and
Nolan Ryan and he's one hundred and fifty and one
hundred and eighty pitch outings, you know, every fifth day
and in the playoffs every third day.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
They would do it.
Speaker 1 (18:32):
Kind of talk to us about how especially because you
you know, you've worked your way into pitching while also
being a position player. Kind of like the build up
of the arm and when you actually start to feel
fatigue because sometimes you're cruising through these starts and you
know how the fans are. You get lifted and they're like,
oh man, guys dealing. Leave them out there on the bump.
But kind of walk us through what's going through your
body as you kind of hit up, you know that
(18:53):
that eighty eighty five pitch number.
Speaker 2 (18:58):
Yeah, No, I think there's definitely still a lot of
building up to do as far as getting getting closer
to one hundred pitches. But now by by seventy seventy
five eighty eighty five pitches. It's it's kind of the
same as when you know, inning two inny three come around.
It's just, uh it's when you have stress on the
(19:19):
base pass is when those those pitches start, you know,
affecting you a little bit more later on in the
game and the next day. But uh, now we're we're
definitely keeping the arm strength up. But I'd never want
to come out of a game. I was telling Doc
when I was in Houston. I said, you got to
let me have this guy. That's just my competitiveness and
(19:42):
wanting to wanting to help the team, you know, win
a ball game. But he made a I think he
made a smart decision and taking me out though the
first time I've gone that many pitches in a very
very long time. But uh, yeah, I definitely don't ever
want to come out of a game the bump.
Speaker 1 (19:58):
Did you You mentioned that you know you fell in
love with baseball, just that that feeling of the pure
connection where you almost don't feel anything in the handle
of the bat when you make that strike on the ball.
Do you still like, can you will they let you
get in the cage? Can you still take some some
hacks at it, or I want even to come in
for a bunch or something. You know that feels good, right, That.
Speaker 2 (20:20):
Would be incredible if that was that they allowed that
to happen. But I definitely don't push that on anybody.
I during my routine during the week, I definitely take
some ground balls a shortstop just to stay athletic, throw
some balls across the diamond, keep the arm action in check,
stay behind the baseball. But no, I definitely don't do
anything on the hitting side anymore.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
It's been a pleasure.
Speaker 4 (20:42):
We're talking to River Ryan, twenty five year old rookie
right hander for the Dodgers, one of the young guys
on this team. Young guys on the Dodgers are a
little older. Because it's such a logjam. We always talk
about it in the farm system. What is the mix,
like River, between the vets that you talked about learning
from seeing an old goat like Kershaw or a unicorn
(21:03):
like Otani and Freddie Freeman mixed at around with you
young guys and some of you guys that are in
and out. How does that all balance out in the clubhouse?
Speaker 1 (21:11):
How does it work?
Speaker 2 (21:13):
Oh? I mean, everybody, all the vets are very accepting
of the younger guys. We're all we're all pulling for
the same goal and that's to you know, win a
World Series. So yeah, I think I think the mix
in the clubhouses it works great. Everybody's pulling for each other,
the Vets especially trying to coach us up, the young guys.
(21:35):
But yeah, it's a it's a really good next for sure.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
What was what was it like when you got traded
for people that maybe because it seems like you've been
here so long, but you know, you were with the
Padres for like a year. What what do you remember about,
you know, kind of being in their organization and then
being told that that you were headed to the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
Yeah, I mean it's it's a little different simply due
to the fact that I was a hitter over there,
so I didn't really work a whole bunch with the
pitching side of things, so I can't really relate it
to anything anything in that aspect. But I think the
Dodgers just they they really know how to go about
(22:13):
developing their players, especially in the minor leagues, protecting them,
coaching them, you know, based on their their attributes that
they already have you know what I mean. They don't
try to change much about how you operate, how your
body works. They just try to enhance a little bit
(22:34):
tcfe mechanical things, but they don't try to They don't
try to change anything about you. They just try to
help correct some some little things. So that's the biggest
difference that I've noticed as far as the Padres and
the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (22:47):
Thoughtful answers from a great guy, River Ryan joining us. Now,
River we had we We talked to pro football players,
pro athletes of all kinds, college stars, basketball Hall of famers, ever,
everybody you can think of. We talked to him River,
And we worry about the same things out here in
Los Angeles. We worry about a young man like you
losing his way in Hollywood, and you know, all of
(23:09):
a sudden you got your chain out, you have some
weird walk up song. The people back in North Carolina
are horrified. How how has the Los Angeles treated you
thus far? How are you feeling in La? Do you
like the city?
Speaker 2 (23:23):
I really haven't explored much of La yet. I've only
been here a few Like the first series was a
few days, and then I went on the road for
however long and that we're back. So I definitely haven't
explored too much of LA but so far everything, everything
has been really solid.
Speaker 6 (23:42):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
I just you know, just stay true to the Lord.
Stay true to the Lord. Out here he is, he
is all that matters at the end of the day.
Speaker 1 (23:49):
He's here in l A too, Yes, he is.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
He's everywhere. Let's just do my best to represent him,
you know, the best way that I that I am
able to so.
Speaker 3 (23:59):
Last thing for me River and we appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (24:01):
Uh, just let's take it back to tonight when when
you kind of are sitting in the dugout and you
look out and you see Clayton Kershaw, you know, taking
the ball and he is on the mound. I know
you mentioned you know, you're twenty five years old. You're
so thankful and blessed to be on the Dodgers, but
kind of, especially in those starts when you see him
on the mind, kind of what what is that feeling
like for someone that does what you do and is
(24:23):
of your age?
Speaker 2 (24:25):
Oh man, I mean he's been in the league for
a very very long time and he definitely knows the
ins and outs of of pitching and he's I mean,
he's gonna be a first first ballot Hall of Famer.
I mean, he's unbelievable to watch, especially as he's gotten older.
He's really perfected the art of pitching. And that's kind
of what I try to take take away the most
out of watching him pitch is, you know, he doesn't
(24:48):
he doesn't have the ninety seven ninety eight mile on
hour fastball that he used to anymore, and he just
he goes out there and tries to pitch. So I
definitely try to use the things that I see out
of his outings and bring it into mind and how
it goes about navigating hitters. But yeah, it's it's definitely
incredible to watch.
Speaker 1 (25:07):
Well.
Speaker 4 (25:07):
Congratulations River to you and your family. Welcome to Los Angeles.
We hope you're here for a long time pitching and
fulfilling your dreams. And hey, here's hoping every once in
