a lot of money changing hands esher heshers are usually
very wealthy. Yes, you saw the Stone Age. All right,
it is time for the final hour of Fun Fa Fact,
the Yellow three.

Speaker 1 (02:04):
Fun Fact.

Speaker 3 (02:05):
Goosebumps not the show or the book series, but actual
goosebumps on the human body are remnants from when we
had and this still applies to some people, when we
had a lot of body hair when scared, much like
you see a dog's spine, our hair would fluff out,
making us look bigger to scare off predators. So we

(02:29):
still get the goosebumps.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
That's why Bigfoot gets all swolled up with hair, sees
a chick and his poozzo swells up and he takes
it for his especially if you're in fluorescent. I'm going
to play my sounder. Her name is real. She dances
in the sand to play my sound MS Crickets Fine,

(03:08):
Dodger fanfair, Yeah yeah, yea yea yea yea your eye
are I.

Speaker 2 (03:16):
Do?

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Doyers dollars Dodgers off until Saturday, but we're on it.
NLDS coming up, doy Doyers waiting for the winner of
the Padres Brave series. That's what's in. You know who's
not in Philly going down to Yellow n Brown. That's
what's in. Is all the loose, Let's go goose, That's

(03:41):
what's in.

Speaker 2 (03:43):
These guys are cool, right, Bryce gonna lose and man,
he's gonna cruise.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
That's what is man. He thinks that's kiddy. Get Philly,
no slack and sending them back. There's nothing long with.

Speaker 4 (03:57):
Soap back Philly, bat So back, Philly, bat So back Philly, Philly.

Speaker 3 (04:10):
Back, Philly back, you climb your dogs tall drink of water, idiot.

Speaker 1 (04:19):
They drowned that guy in the pool. After that, he
kept trying to get out. They kept poking him down
with a net terrible Brandon Gomes and Dave Roberts spoke
to the media today. They said, Freddy Freeman face live
pitching this week. Old kadalop leg will continue his rehab
and sprained ankle. Clayton Kershaw isn't any closer to facing
hitters with his turf toe. They haven't decided yet if

(04:39):
they'll go hurts. Yeah, it sounds like it's tiny, but
it's incredibly paiful.

Speaker 5 (04:46):
Take a shot.

Speaker 1 (04:48):
Thirteen hitters, thirteen pitchers. They don't know if they want
to do that. They will go with Flarty in Game one.
I'm a mooto Game two. Gome said he doesn't anticipate
Shoeyo Tawny pitching this season.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
Back, Billy back, you never show your hand, and that
hesher hater got lit up today.

Speaker 1 (05:07):
Your stupid hesher back to the black jeans of the
food court for the rest of the off season. That's right,
you dork. Our thoughts are with the Dodger Great Fernando Vellezuela,
who has stepped away from his role as a Spanish
language broadcaster for the radio for the remainder of the
season to focus on his health. The team added that
Fernando aims to return for the twenty twenty five season. Wonderful,

(05:29):
as Don Martin says, your mouth to God's ear. Hey,
sending all those positive vibes your way, Fernando. You know,
it's bye week for the Chargers, who sit at two
and two on the season.

Speaker 4 (05:39):
Dog.

Speaker 1 (05:40):
Here's Jim Harbaugh's weekly sitting down with the media talking
about the loss to Kansas City and the need for
guys to get better individually because those individual mistakes that
is what the team.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
I'm really proud of the team. Where we played the
effort the uh, I mean good play and then internalize everything.
You just look at uh you know just where where
it could be better, you know, personally coaching, Uh, and

(06:13):
then everybody's gonna most everybody is gonna come away with
this play could have been better, that play could have
been better. Everybody has their one or one or two things,
so yeah, good, but I want it to be great.
And UH, we have a we have a great faith

(06:35):
and belief that that we can get that done and
you get back to work and uh, we'll work together,
win together. That's that's the plan. But good, yeah, at
times like really good, and but just good isn't good

(06:55):
enough for where we want to be. We gotta we had,
we gotta chase the excellence.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
J there's one of the few guys who's.

Speaker 6 (07:05):
Upset losing.

Speaker 5 (07:10):
Yeah, I feel I feel the same way. I had
that conversation with with JK in the in the locker
room after the game and agree. I mean I wouldn't
I wouldn't be pleased if it was the other way.
And he you know that he that he or anybody
liked to lose or or or or wanted to lose.

(07:31):
That's definitely not the case. And you know, I agree
with him. And but yeah, my uh, you know, our belief,
our faith is that uh, you know, we got the
we got the guys, we got the uh, we got
the the members of the team that that have the faith,

(07:52):
and we'll get that done.

Speaker 3 (07:53):

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Are the Raiders going to trade Davante Adams Yes, Reportedly
he would like to go to the Jets to be
with his friend Aaron Rodgers, or so they can push
people away when they try to hug them, or the
Saints with all taking back Sunday Derey Carr. I want
to go somewhere where they know who's going to be
throwing the pool. I want to go somewhere where I
know somebody that can plug me into the social pipeline.
They're my friends. I have a special relationship with all

(08:37):
my quarterbacks. I only want to go somewhere where they are.
The Jets and the Cowboys have reached down to the
Raiders about a trade. The team is reportedly in no
rush to make a move yet. Here is Raider coach
Antonio Pierce oh ap his apenis with the media this morning.

Speaker 6 (08:55):
Yeah, Davante's deal with a hamstring. He's rehabbing, and the
rest of us are focused on Denver. Here in the
building today it's supposed to be rehappened.

Speaker 2 (09:04):
Yesterday comes signing at him show and discussed guess the
social media posts earlier this week?

Speaker 6 (09:10):
Is that something that was accidental on your part? In
terms of day, I'm just focused on Denver.

Speaker 1 (09:17):
And where is the relationship? Often you do?

Speaker 6 (09:23):
Have you talked to him? Since I leave that between
me and Davante? Distraction was very tasty focused on Denver.

Speaker 3 (09:33):
Given given all the reports that are out there about Dvante,
how are you able to focus simply on the Broncos
coming up?

Speaker 6 (09:38):
I've been doing them. You're talking about me personally and
then on how do you? Because I mean it starts
with me, because that's my only focus. I get paid
here to get ready each and every week for the opponent.
I don't blink, I don't flinch.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
I don't know.

Speaker 6 (09:50):
I've said it before like I've been through enough of
my life with adversity and stuff that doesn't bother me.
I just move forward. The next cops go in front
of me, the Denver Broncos, And that's what I presented
to my team and that's what they're doing right now.
In the meeting. We're bout to go off practicing.

Speaker 1 (10:03):
Okay, all right, DeVante what I've never seen a guy actually,
because we didn't have the picture. It's a radio show.
A lot of people don't know. He was holding a
trident at the media. Try to keep him bat stave
them away, back, Philly back, back, Philly back. Texas State announced,

(10:24):
shut up, really yeah that one guy goes too far.
One guy always goes too far. Always. Texas State announced
that it is staying in the sun Belt Conference after
flirting with the Mountain West. Thank god, can't have a
sun Belt without Texas State. They let the Mountain West

(10:45):
sniff their big foot poots and then they put it
back of their pant. Pack twelve one of them too. Hey,
Texas State, we're into you. Both conferences are in need
of adding another school with a football program. Pack twelve
said today it won't add another school until a media
rights evaluation is complete, which would take anywhere from two
to three months or two to three weeks. Sounds like

(11:06):
Freddy Freeman's agle, what's the state of the pact? Off? Well,
we're talking to Texas State. Excuse me? Well wait, wait
you say that, and you kind of a d about it,
But what about the sting of the Hernit. You know
what else you're talking to? Sack State, sax State. They
want to be part of the conversation. Sax State says, hey, hey,

(11:27):
fact twelve, Hey Mountain West, get a load of this
stinger on our ass. Every time we use it. We
don't die like a bubble bee. We're Hernits a new
football stadium thirty five million dollars to help elevate their
athletic department in the nil world. Also, the Sacramento Kings
have offered to host sax State University Men's and Women's

(11:48):
Basketball Conference home games at the Golden One Center.

Speaker 3 (11:53):
Light the beam, Light the beam with the buzz Oh
my god, like you like the beam and they're able
to project little black dots and they're like their hornets
buzz uzzn't around in a beam, buzzing in the beam.
Let's go Pack twelve. Whyle were sitting on our hands,
so we wait, Let's get sexed. Col State, Sacramento, You
kidding me? Sex State.

Speaker 1 (12:12):
It's like you go out on one date, you order
the appetizer at BJ's, you know, and it just arrives
and the girls like, what are we waiting for? Let's
get just get married. Let's get married.

Speaker 2 (12:21):
Let's go.

Speaker 1 (12:22):
We got to ask her to get off the pot
here guy, Hello, is that a SUSA band? I hear
in the background?

Speaker 3 (12:29):
I love it is this is vivid? That this is
vivid in the background. Rat Ranity exactly.

Speaker 1 (12:37):
Number eleven US oh Matt, number eleven US E three
and one plays Minnesota on Saturday. I roll the boat.
They're going to row the boat out there. The Trojans
are eight and a half point road favorite. However, you know,
I know a lot of people are saying that it
was like a moral victory what we did against Michigan.
I know a lot of people will say that it
was like a victory. It's not. Then.

Speaker 3 (12:56):
Nobody was saying that, Yeah, nobody's get your ma rat
poisoning easy. No one's talking about Nick saban line. You
see la As one and three. They had the Happy
Valley to take on number seven Penn State on Saturday morning.
It's Big Noon and the Bruins are going to try
to not look like the big Noon buffoon holding it

(13:19):
a twenty eight point road dog. So the Marquee game
has the Bruins, which prior to the season you'd probably
be like, it's pretty cool. You see La Valley, Yeah, State, Laign.
This is going to be great. They're just starting in
the Big Ten and stay of Pennsylvania. It's on top
of this.

Speaker 1 (13:39):
You say something that way, it's going to be bad.
They're not good. Swhere we're and penn State is quite good.
So that is what creates you know, I do this
for work, and I can tell you that's what creates
mismatch right there.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Felt really good about this three months ago, prior to
Big Ten media Day. The ten media rolls out and
we go Okay, might have a little bit of a
bump in the road.

Speaker 1 (14:03):
All right, but let's look at the rest of Fox's schedule. Okay, Friday,
how do you have? I got Syracuse un LV. That's
pretty good game.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
Well, a lot of buzz around UNLV, SAX State punt
Syracuse and U and LV would both beat the crap
out of UCLA. Let's just put it like that, Michigan
State versus Oregon the Jonathan Smith Civil War without Oregon State. Right,
that's on Friday night too, So that's a good game.
Baylor at Iowa State. I want to see what rock.

Speaker 1 (14:29):
Obeck's got going on. Let's go do we yes? Okay,
Texas Tech Arizona. That's a good offensive firepower game, Taj
Brooks versus Noah Flafita. Sure, Arizona just knocked off Utah.
Just need two stops. Three we can't get at them.
Tim de Ruder is your guy, man than three stop
they do?

Speaker 2 (14:49):
Uh yeah?

Speaker 1 (14:50):
So that then Rutgers at Nebraska.

Speaker 3 (14:52):
Don't sleep on Rutgers since Chiano's come back. Chiano hard
scrabble football now.

Speaker 1 (14:58):
And then there's an F to F S two tilt.
Who's doing that? Spencer Tillman and Eric Collins. That Spencer
was with Brando. They've been separated. Boise State hosting Utah State,
so you get a look at Ashton genty on the
deuce Future PAC twelve teams Utah State Boise State. I
did say that during the game that we were calling.

(15:19):
I said, it is refreshing. Is Washington State Boise State
Future PAC twelve one current back twelve. I said, it's
great to see these two teams going at it but
not suing each other behind the scenes. And that's not
what we can say no most of the time anymore,
but now you can. We said it here. We were
able to say it here. UCLA Big ten schedule released

(15:39):
today for base but a lot of questions about how
to travel and where they will play. They're only going
to make three trips back eas only three, once early
in March manageable Maryland, once in late March to Purdue
it's incredibly cold that time of year, and once in

(16:00):
early May to see the leaf chains in champagn or
Bana beautiful. Four schools will travel to them, including Nebraska.
You're welcome, Indiana, You're welcome, Penn State, don't say nothing
about me at Northwestern. Yeah, it's going to be bad.
So travel isn't too bad for UCLA baseball, even in
the Big Ten. The big question is, though, where will

(16:21):
the games be played now that the VA is taken
back Sunday? I would I.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
Would point out, though I'm guessing that UCLA Baseball is
not flying on a charter, which means if you're flying
to Indianapolis or Chicago, you're still driving two hours to
get to Purdue. You're flying to Chicago, you're still driving
three and a half. Three and a half, but get
the champagne. But a quick two and a half to

(16:49):
Indianapolis and only three from the loop. Yeah, I mean
very centrally locals. So it's unless they're flying charters. It's
not like they're going to Purdue is not Indie Apple Champagne,
is not Chicago like that.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
I will say, uh, they're used to that.

Speaker 2 (17:06):
You know.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
They get in the bus and they drive out to
to see UC riverside and all that, and uh, I'll
also say this, maybe Casey w Home, Maybe Casey Wasserman
Express with the fire Martin Jarmin signed behind it. We'll
charter them to these places and carry them home. Good
luck to the Bruin baseball team. They should not have

(17:27):
been evicted. No where are they played, no one, No
one knows. They might plan in the parking lot. They
might ruin my whole theory it. We'll be back with
bar Eric Allen joining.

Speaker 2 (17:40):
Us next.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Petro saying money AM five seventy l A Sports Live
everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. We do not have Dodger
Baseball until Saturday. They await the winner of the wild
card round between the Padres and the Braves. We do know, however,
that first pitch will be at five thirty eight pm.
Dodgers on deck at four thirty. You can listen to
every Dodger game right here. On a five seventy Ela Sports.
It is powered by Zenhi Sushi, Fast, fresh and easy.

(18:09):
And remember on Friday, we will have a pair of
tickets for Game one of the NLDS on Scam Sachs
Kates in the am six to nine am pair of
tickets for the NLDS.

Speaker 1 (18:20):
Well, Matt, a dear friend joining us right now. A
pro bowler and should be and will be. Footh Ball
an NFL Hall of Famer footh Ball. We love Eric Allen,
First Team All Pro Safety, fifty four career, Thefts, footh Ball,
fourteen years in the NFL, Eagles, Saints Raiders, member of

(18:43):
the Eagles Hall of Fame. You saw him on Aspen
for years. You hear him on the Raider broadcast with
Tip Kate and many others, and you see him on
Raider platforms, the Pride of San Diego. He loves his Padres.
That's what's in. It's not just Daniel jerr Amaya and
Tom Delaune, but Eric Allen is also a huge Padre

(19:06):
fan and he joins us on your Southern California Toyota
Dealer Celebrity Hotline. It's e a on the Petrosen Money Show.
What's cracking. Eric, Thanks for coming on, man, how are
you man?

Speaker 2 (19:18):
Well, what an introduction. I think you need to be
back in Canton. Let's go for me, right, Yeah, yeah, I.

Speaker 1 (19:25):
Might have sent some of your teammates. You know. I
can see some of the guys feeling like, you know, yes, yeah,
you know. I was there. I remember what Reggie was like.
No you don't, but uh, you know, it's always great
to catch up. Right at the beginning of the pro

(19:45):
football season. I don't really know where to start because
there's a lot to talk about. But with the Padres
and all the excitement down in San Diego and all
us Dodger folks and Tim Kates has his fancy new
Dodger had on right now and everybody, he's kind of
feeling a little weird because the Padres have some momentum.
How are you feeling? You're down? And Eric, what are
your feelings?

Speaker 2 (20:05):
I'm feeling great about the Padres, And anytime the Padres
and Dodgers have the potential to hook up, I'm always
gonna text the great Tim Kate's and just let him know.
You know that we are not afraid of those Dodgers anymore.
And I know and if there's any time to get
the Dodgers, it's right now before the All Star Otani

(20:30):
reminds me of back in the day. Remember when we
used to just play All Stars. There wasn't like travel ball,
And then there would be this guy that shows up
at the All Star Game and you'd had your mom
to go over and check his verth certificate because he
looked too big to play. That's what ol tany is.
And I hope somebody is checking that irth certificate for
that guy, because you know he does it all. But

(20:52):
we got to get him now before he pitches start
pitching next year. But I'm excited about the momentum of
the Padres doing a great job. Every hitter in the
lineup can can get on base. And then the guy
who kind of last night opened it up is to
Kief and just love him at the Padre fam. Yeah,
for sure.

Speaker 1 (21:11):
Is that the Eric?

Speaker 3 (21:12):
Is it the only team that you like have a
legit like you emotionally get invested or is there anything
else like any other professional team that you are emotionally
invested with that do you you know wins or losses
to wear them on your sleeve?

Speaker 2 (21:25):
I do, and I'm so superstitious here in San Diego.
You know, we are back in the seventies. When I
was a youngster, we used to catch the bus, a
yellow bus in the neighborhood and it would take us
out to Jack Murphy Stadium and we'd sit in the
left field and the great Dave Winfield was there, and
that was before you know, Tony Gwen of course, but

(21:47):
Ozzie Smith. So I've been a Padre fan going back long.
But the Raiders when I'm west of Texas big time.
You know, I'm there every Sunday, and then east of
Texas you've got to throw on the Kelly Green for
the Eagles, who were struggling a little bit this year.
But those are my three teams. And of course I'm

(22:08):
a big Laker fan.

Speaker 1 (22:10):
So speaking of the oh, they were doing their special
high five for the media.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
Yeah, oh that was also. I'm so excited. I'm so
excited for you know, the preseason of basketball, so we
can see both the King and the Prince on the
court at the same time, maybe throwing some alley you
and stuff like that. So this big time excited about
those Lakers coming up here in preseason.

Speaker 3 (22:39):
Well, I'm glad you mentioned preseason. Is Brianni ain't gonna
be playing in the regular season?

Speaker 2 (22:43):
That's right, Hey, that's right, Come on, come on, money.

Speaker 1 (22:48):
Money, what you know that you know that to be true?
The Raiders have you?

Speaker 3 (22:56):
I would assume in all your years playing, Eric, you've
been around a player that stitting happy. You know, maybe
he is looking for some new scenery. How does that
affect the rest of the team. Do you take that
person and like Mattester doesn't want to be around us,
you don't want to go on and play with or
do you are you able to just compartmentalize and say
that's his business.

Speaker 2 (23:12):
Yeah, that's a good question. And fortunately or unfortunately, when
you're around the business, or have played as long as
I've played, there's come some situations where you know, at
the end of the role, when you're with a football
team and you love that team. Just like be A
wanted to come to the Raiders because he was a

(23:33):
Raider fan when he was younger, and his guy Derek
Carr was the quarterback. That situation didn't end too well.
I think it's a great point right now to give
him this opportunity to finish out his career in a
Super Bowl situation. So if something arises and a team
that thinks you can think they can kind of go

(23:55):
over the top, maybe the Jets or something like that
would be great for both. We can get something for him.
I love their pass rusher who's not in. He could
be on the other side of Max maybe and you know,
hopefully get us to a point defensive where we can
rush the passer. You know, even better now that someone
doesn't have to double Max Crosby and we can have

(24:15):
a son reddit there. But you know, that's just me
just kind of just all some stuff out there. And
I'm pretty sure Da who's a great player. I think
for the last two years. He's led the league receiving
touchdowns the last two years. So the guy's incredible. He's
going to be a Hall of Famer. But if he
wants to be on a team that you know can

(24:38):
be in the Super Bowl, like immediately, I think the
Jets may be the best possible situation. But that's just
me throwing stuff out there, guys.

Speaker 1 (24:46):
And he could be with his bff.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Yeah, Aaron Rodgers ran away from him to get the
Derek Carr, but now I wants to go back there.

Speaker 2 (24:53):
Yeah, money have you told Petros about the awkward high
five bro hug that we oh.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
Really where in the it was just in a hallway
by a sixty three to twenty one contest.

Speaker 1 (25:06):
But you got the Raider Charger whole lot. You know,
there's that the backdrop of the rivalry makes it hard. Eric,
did I go did you go high? I think you
went high?

Speaker 4 (25:14):
Right?

Speaker 3 (25:14):
And I think guy came in and it was it was,
it was. It was my fault. Eric, I am a
very awkward person and the real stiff guy. So you've
got a little stiff Booty Leroy. Yeah, you know it
is your best Eric, And I was, I was. I
was just a disaster stiff Bootsmith out in the hallways.
And so you know, and look what happened sixty three

(25:35):
to twenty one. And now Jim Harbos the head coach
of the Chargers. I mean, my gosh, who knew that
that awkward high five hug interaction would would lead to
that new head.

Speaker 1 (25:43):
Coaches though, Eric, it is kind of interesting. What do
you think Antonio Pierce is going to be able to
do now and in the future. The Raiders aren't helpless.
They they can win games just like anybody else in
the NFL. What kind of year do you think they're
going to have once they get through this DeVonta Appas.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
I think the big thing coming out of training camp
was the identification. You know, like the Chargers on one point,
we didn't have to ask them what their ID was
going to be. They drafted Joe All you know what
Jim Harm is going to be. They're gonna run the football,
no matter who's that quarterback, They're gonna run the football
thirty forty times a game if he could.

Speaker 1 (26:20):
Us.

Speaker 2 (26:20):
On the other hand, we were thinking, hey, we're going
to be a run dominant team, have a good defense,
play action, but we don't have the personnel to do that.
Our personnel. We draft maybe one of the best tight
ends to ever play college football and Brock, and Brock
is an amazing player. But when you draft Brock so high,

(26:41):
that says multiple position player. We're going to get into
eleven personnel. Throw the ball to be able to run
the ball. And I think it took us a couple
of weeks to understand that. Last week against the Cleveland Browns,
we spreaded it out. We threw the ball effectively, not
nothing deep. We took some shots we had some reverses

(27:02):
going you know, left, right, whatever, and then we're able
to run the ball because the defense had to adjust.
So we ended up running for over one hundred and
fifty yards the first time. And you know, the season
is being able to do that. So now with the
defense playing well and we're able to kind of spread
defenses out, I think now we have our identa. This
is gonna be a big game for us. Going to

(27:24):
Denver this week. We've beat him like eight times in
a row. They have Bo Nix, who's their quarterback, who's
a young guy and hopefully hopefully he was a young.

Speaker 1 (27:34):
But he's like thirty years old in college.

Speaker 2 (27:39):
You've seen a little bit of everything. But hopefully Max
is ready to roll this week. And we have the brown,
we have Denver's numbers, so hopefully we can get to
three and two.

Speaker 1 (27:49):
Eric Allen Hall of Fame this year. This year, it's
this gona be this. You think Scataboo is ever going
to touch the Arizona State Hall of Fame? Do you
think he is?

Speaker 3 (28:01):
No?

Speaker 2 (28:02):
I don't think so. Hell no not.

Speaker 1 (28:04):
After all that time at Sex State, the great Eric Allen,
a hero to everybody. NFL Hall of Fame if you
don't call Eric Allen, we're coming for you. We appreciate you, Eric,
and good luck this weekend. Thank you for doing it,
and good luck to your podcam guys.

Speaker 2 (28:20):
That's right anytime guys, right.

Speaker 1 (28:22):
That's what's him. Big thank you to Eric Allen.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
Remember anything you miss you can always relive on the
iHeartRadio app on the Petros and Money podcast. Coming up
next Dead and a live guy Birthday the.

Speaker 1 (28:30):
Dy Jenny Jenny, who can I turn to Dodger Talk
tonight for the lonely people. That's right, David Vasey, keeping
you posted. Coming up in a matter of moments. We

(28:50):
are your twenty twenty four West Champion Los Angeles Dodgers
station of record. Tomorrow will be on it too. So
remember that we got Thursday at foot phone to Waller, Matt,
you got the dead guy birthday of the day.

Speaker 3 (29:11):
I do have the dead guy birthday that a happy
would have been one hundred and ninth to Charles Edward Williams,
Chuck Williams, man that changed catalogs, shopping forever, Upscale, Mall,
Stalwart and at Christmas time a guy that put a
serious dent into white people's wallets because you had to

(29:35):
buy his spatula, his Dutch oven, his Christmas cake mix? Horsecrap?
Was there a Sonoma? No, only Williams, but he loved Sonoma,
so his company, Williams Sonoma changed kitchens forever. Born in Jacksonville,

(29:57):
spent a lot of time when it is beautiful kitchen,
I think of jackson to fourth what now? Just born
spent time with his maternal grandmother, who had owned a
restaurant back in Ohio. She taught young Chuck how to cook.
Great Depression hits. Father's auto repair business fails. He packs
the family up for California. Let's see if there's something

(30:18):
out there in the Western Frontier? Was there no trying
to help the family make ends meet. When he's like ten,
he finds work on a date farm, Sniff's Date Gardens
in Indio, not Hadley's Sniffs.

Speaker 1 (30:36):
Who the hell is that one?

Speaker 3 (30:37):
And recognizing that's not a successful date farm. That's a
different time, you know, great depression. Maybe Hadley's bought him out,
recognizing his work ethic, his natural intelligence, his tough situation.
His sister was killed in an accident, his mother returned
to Florida. Charles is left on his own at twelve, oh,
Dana and Abigail Sniff take him in. They drive him

(31:00):
to high school in the morning. Se he earns his
keep by spending the afternoons working the date shop and
he's hands.

Speaker 1 (31:06):
Couldn't drink a date shake for the rest of his life.
It made him negative connotation when he graduated high school.
What does he do?

Speaker 3 (31:12):
Greatest generation shipped after the war airplane mechanic India, East Africa.
After the war, he works for Lockheed in la and
it was a weekend white guy golf trip to Sonoma.
Falls in love with the town and he moves there.
Many of my friends are black, how dare you? He
starts out on his own as a general contractor. That

(31:33):
takes off. He buys the local hardware store and over
the next few years figure this one out. He decides
that there is a high demand from the culinary world
for French cookwar so he starts importing French cookwear and
selling it. And that's working, and he moves to San
Francisco and his business is expanding and he's got multiple locations.

(31:55):
He launches the catalog in seventy one. Before you know it,
it's hundreds of store and the biggest seller cookbooks. Chuck
was the editor and contributed to nearly every cookbook that
Williams Sonoma has thus far released, including the large multi
volume Williams Sonoma Kitchen Library set over forty volumes. It's
sold nearly ten million copies. The sole author was Chuck

(32:16):
of the Williams Sonoma Simple Cooking series, all told one
hundred cookbooks that have sold over one hundred million copies worldwide.
He lived to be one hundred died two months after
the Century of Marcus four thousand peach piece collection of
cookwear created the Chuck Williams Arts Museum.

Speaker 1 (32:34):
Well, today we celebrate a musician that we have celebrated before.
By the way, that was a Preston Smith song. I
believe kitchen. I thought you were going to go with
the B side of that ep smeg, But no, No.
Gillian Welch another musician. They're the great female musician, fifty
seven years old, much like Preston Smith, raised in southern California.

(32:58):
Though you would not know it, Gilo, I would have
never guessed that. No one does. Gillian Welch, I don't
like to share that about my past. Well, she's actually
born in New York, but she was raised in the valley.
She was an adopted daughter of parental TV writers. Her
mom and dad adopted parents were TV writers and they

(33:19):
wrote on The Carol Burnett Show. And so she lived
out out in Santa Monica, went to Crossroads, ding Dong
I grew up at Gillian Welch. It's Cash Warren and
Gillian Welch right in front of the But Gillian Welch,
Cash Warren, Tim Conway, Baron Davis right, what a crew.

(33:43):
Her music, though it is a weird mix between Appalachia,
Americana country and bluegrass, not southern California, not all the Valley.
She is truly a modern day musical Marvel finally won
a Grammy in twenty twenty. She probably should have fifty
of them. She went to Crossroads and then you see
Santa Cruz. Played in a goth band at you see

(34:07):
Santa Cruz. Okay, that's more valley. You see Santa Cruz.
That works. The name of the band was Cotton Dressed
Death World, but no no psychedelic second one psychedelic surf band.
But her roommate in college played her a blue gas

(34:28):
record and she had an epiphany and she had found
her music. She then took it to the Berkeley School
of Music in Boston because she was an already pretty
talented musician, and she met her life partner and musical
collaborator there, Dave Rawlings. I say life partner because it's
like Goldie Hawn and not Mary not married, but she's not.

(34:50):
It's not like a Lilith fair time, all right. I
got you t Bone. Burnett saw them performing this song,
Long Black Veil at the Grand Old Opry, and the
rest of the they say is history. She started making albums,
whether her husband Guy or whatever common law dude, Hey,
husband Guy, and they'll go four or five years without
making an album, you know when the Guardian and Pitchfork

(35:11):
will be doing. That is how they write this. She
was an associate producer of the Old Brother Where Art
Thou soundtrack, and sang two songs on the record as well.
I don't hear that. You don't notice that at all,
at all, not a bit. She's got her own label
now and all of her albums, including the Dave Rawlings stuff,

(35:34):
his solo stuff excellent. Sorry Dave, you know, Gillian. Sorry. Well,
they didn't know what to do when they started because
they've only want to be famous too, They've only performed
as a duo. They didn't know what to call themselves,
so they just called themselves. Gillian Welch, that's absolutely true. Yeah,

(35:55):
we are. You want to argue with my long neck
and my note chin. I think so. I think we
are going to call it all right. Then, at first,
Matt to the Valley Girl. At first people questioned, like, Hey,
what's this chick who grew up in la singing all
these Appalachian songs? But now don't nobody say nothing because
she is that good. Everybody fogerty Man, everybody wants to
work with her, though she has absolutely zero interest in

(36:19):
modern music. I told Alan Sandford to book her for
Beach Life Ranch and he sent them an email and
he got an email back from Gillian Welch that said,
we'ren't working right now. That was it. Yeah, but there's
a new album out that was a couple of years ago,
perhaps the next fall. Can we get you on the
ranch this year? Don't think so, y'all ain't ranch. I'm Ranch.

(36:41):
But you went to Crossroads?

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Shut up.

Speaker 1 (36:44):
David Rasse coming up next. He didn't go to Crossroads.
He went to Notre Dame, Sherman Oaks and thank you again.

Speaker 3 (36:49):
It was so good to see our friend doctor Stephen Foreman,
City of Hope share a.

Speaker 1 (36:54):
Studio with him. He was all alone. He's all over
between you and three. The head company in the studio,
Eric Allen, doctor Foreman Mass Thanks for listening. We'll be
back tomorrow with two. Good Night everybody enjoyed. Bass
