the Winter Meetings, sited up chopping it up in the
elevator with Scott Borris, right at the cusp of history,
walking in history on your Southern California Toyota Deather Celebrity Hotline, Dave,

(02:14):
how was last night with the celebrity people?

Speaker 5 (02:18):
It was great. Brad Paisley flew in specifically to a
talk shop with Clayton Kershaw, Dave Roberts, Andrew Friedman and
myself and it was a really fun night at great
dinner and after that went to Kershaw's house where there
was great hospitality, great cigars, and great time had. So

(02:39):
I appreciate Clayton and Ellen opening up their home to
all of us to hang out for a little bit
and talk, talk, some shop.

Speaker 2 (02:47):
They're home.

Speaker 5 (02:49):
Yeah I went. I went to the Kershaw home in
Island Park. It was amazing. Yeah, great Christmas decorations. Ellen
was baking cookies for us.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
Did you wear one of those the county like the Friends?
Did you wear one of those button downs on top
like the Friends in the z.

Speaker 4 (03:05):
Oh, the Untucket, the Johnny Owen Tucket style button down?

Speaker 5 (03:10):
No, No, I did not do that. I just wore,
you know, whatever I had to wear. Travis, Yeah, yeah, exactly,
Travis Matthew did they.

Speaker 4 (03:19):
Now it was a real drunk fest at Paisley's house
in Nashville. Was was their booze being served? Was anybody overserved?

Speaker 5 (03:26):
Nobody was overserved. There were no other team officials that
came over. No deal was struck. No deal was struck.
The kids were asleep upstairs. They had school the next morning.
So uh, Kershaw. Most everybody had great feel to say,
all right around. You know, twelve thirty, it was thirty.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
Thirty.

Speaker 4 (03:49):
I thought you were gonna say, like nine to thirty, mightiest.

Speaker 2 (03:54):
I called the cop.

Speaker 5 (03:55):
Exactly, you were outside and I was like the last
one waitning for my ubers. So I was saying on the.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Uber oh that's the word. I'm sorry, claimon I called it.
I swear to God I did.

Speaker 5 (04:11):
Oh no, no, the front porch while he was inside
and locking me out.

Speaker 4 (04:15):
Oh man, that is incredible, Dave, what a night, What
an evening. It's just become an annual thing where you
hang out with some of the most important people in
baseball until the next day, for God's sakes. But at
least nobody was over served and no deals were consummated, nothing,
no exchanges were.

Speaker 5 (04:31):
Made, no no, no Dodger trade was made. Teoscar Hernandez
was not signed at the Kershaw house last night. So
it was just a good time for everybody to get
together and men. Just great hospitality by the Kershaws, for sure.
I mean, it's one thing to go to Paisley's farm,
it's another for Kershaw to open up his home pay

(04:52):
for dinner. By the way, you know, it was a
smaller group at dinner, about seven of us at dinner,
and then we went to his house for a post
their pow wow.

Speaker 3 (05:00):
You know, inner circle vast. So what what is the
latest on ta Oscar.

Speaker 5 (05:07):
Well, the Dodgers on Taoscar throughout last night and also
today are continuing to try to make things work. Obviously,
nothing's come down where anybody's reporting that it's a done deal,
so they're still obviously trying to find some common ground.
And look, it feels like if the Dodgers in ta Oscar,

(05:29):
Hernandez are going to do something, it's going to be
pretty soon. But the market to this point has not
materialized the way maybe ta Oscar and his agent were thinking,
and maybe the way a lot of people were thinking
after Wan Soto signed. Right now, the Red Sox are
focused on signing pitching. They just made the trade for

(05:51):
Garrett Crochet. They're trying to sign Corbin Burns, so their
efforts are in on that. So it just feels like Taoscar,
Hernandez and the Dodgers are better together than they are apart.

Speaker 4 (06:04):
Dave, you mentioned the trade for Crochet. They give up
their first rounder from just six months ago, their first
rounder from the previous year, a top forty prospect in
baseball to pick him up, a guy that just came
out of the bullpen last year. The Max Freed deal
was fifty million more or whatever forty million more than
was projected. I would imagine the Dodgers field pretty damn

(06:25):
good about what they've done this offseason. The way they've
spent their money.

Speaker 5 (06:29):
Without a doubt to be able to jump and sign
Blake Snell before the winter meetings started and Juan Soto
came off the board, it looks like a better deal
by the day and nothing. You don't want to take
anything away from Max Freed. He's a really good pitcher,
but you know, the consensus is if you had a choice,
most that I've talked to here on the lobby floor

(06:52):
would take Blake Snell over Max Freed. So the Dodgers
are looking really good, and maybe that's why they're as
comfortable as they are, because they don't have that over
their head where they're trying to get into a bidding
war for Corbin Burns or go that far eight years
for Max Freed. You have to give Andrew Friedman a
lot of credit for signing Blake Snell as early as

(07:14):
he did in the winter, and it just shows you that,
you know, Blake wanted to be a Dodger, and the
Dodgers wanted Blake Snell. So when that happens, and you're
willing to find some middle ground, it can happen, and
that's what they're hoping to do as well with Teoscar Hernandez.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Well, you say that Dave that Blake wanted the Dodgers.
That's one thing, because he's a free agent and they
can work it out and figure out how they want
to do it deferred and sign him anyway. What about
the fact that all the stuff is that, hey, Nolan
Aernado really wants to be a Dodger. Does that matter?

Speaker 5 (07:46):
I don't know how much it matters. And the people
I've spoken to here in Dallas, you know, everybody is
still thinking of Nolan Aeronado as he was when he
first arrived in Saint Louis. The facts are, the defense
has trended downwards, the slug the offense has trended downwards,
and he's owed a lot of money over the next
three years and again max months. He serves a purpose

(08:10):
to the Dodgers' lineup construction. So the Dodgers are not
in desperate need of Nolan Aernato. And it kind of
feels like if if there was a great demand for
Nolan Arenado, it would have happened by now. The trade
would have happened by now, and it just feels like
talking to people around the league, that it's more of
a salary dump by the Cardinals and to try to

(08:32):
get Nolan to a place where he feels he can
win more than trying to get great value in return
for Nolan Aernato at this point in time of his career.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
I want and only David Massey seven o'clock Dodger talk
with Dave Roberts and Andrew Friedman on the show, the
First Terrestrial Show. But there's a lot of content on
the iHeartRadio app and on Instagram of Dave putting in
big work out there in Dallas. I think Matt asked
about Tanner Scott yesterday. I'm going to try to do
this right. Has anything changed in that situation?

Speaker 5 (09:07):
Well, you know, I'm starting to get a greater sense that, yeah,
the Dodgers have interested Tanner Scott, but to a certain
point he would be a huge addition to their bullpen.
If you look at last year, Josh Hader got what
five years, ninety five million dollars, then it was like
a nineteen million dollar annual average salary. Tanner Scott's thirty

(09:29):
plus years old. He's had a couple of really good seasons.
I don't see him getting that from the Dodgers. I
think they have interest in Tanner Scott, but to a
certain point where they're comfortable to go with a relief
pitcher that's going into his thirties.

Speaker 2 (09:45):
Dave.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Now we're starting to hear speaking of Tanner Scott in
a former Padre that maybe some of these contenders are
willing to move off guys Talker from Houston and Cease
from San Diego, Like, could you see the Dodgers getting
on some of that.

Speaker 5 (10:01):
Well, I don't see the Dodgers and Padres making the
trade with Dylan Dill and Cease. But Kyle Tucker is
a special player. We've talked about it all week. He
only has one year left on his contract. And if
the Astros do trade Kyle Tucker, does that mean they've
lost to Alex Bregman for them to trigger something like that,
I think that's a question that needs to be asked.

(10:22):
If they're thinking about trading Kyle Tucker, do they feel like,
all right, maybe now we have to start to rebuild
around your Don Alvarez because we're losing Bregman and we
may not be able to sign Tucker next year. So yeah,
I think Alex Bregman is definitely in the mix with
the Yankees and Red Sox and Corbyn burns Now is

(10:44):
the next big starting pitcher to come off the board
here soon.

Speaker 3 (10:49):
What's the buzz on Cody Bellinger, former Dodger. You tease
the people about that yesterday.

Speaker 5 (10:56):
Well, the Yankees and Cubs. I've had talks about Ellinger,
but I was told the Rangers also have interest in Bellinger,
and they also have interested in signing Jock Peterson. So
if those two things happen all of a sudden, now
you're talking about Jock Peterson, Corey Seeger, Cody Bellinger reunion

(11:17):
here in Arlington.

Speaker 4 (11:19):
Obviously, Dave, you got the Mets with Soto and they
made the NLCS last year. But if we're actually talking
about the Padres not resigning Tanner Scott, maybe trading Dylan
Cees like and the Braves just lost Max Freed. What's
what's the lineup of the National League look like as
it compares to what the Dodgers have. I mean, it

(11:41):
feels like teams are you know, not walking away, but
outside of the Mets. Has has any other team actually
gotten better?

Speaker 5 (11:48):
Yeah, the Giants are trying to get better Willie Donnan,
and they're trying to sign Corbyn Burns. In fact, they're
trying to sign Corbyn Burns whether or not they're able
to meet that price. It's kind of like right now,
from what I understand, it's between the Red Sox and Giants.
So if they add Corbyn Burns, it's a pretty good
one two punch with Logan Web and they're trying to

(12:10):
add some offense there. So right now, you would say
the other team in the National League and specifically in
the NLS that is getting better this offseason so far,
it's the Giants. I would say the Giants and Mets
right now would be the two teams that you would
say are trying to find a way to close the
gap with the Dodgers. And you know, it's unfortunate with

(12:33):
the passing of Peter Seidler, the Padres principal owner, they're
kind of in limbo right now, and it's really disappointing
for baseball after what we saw last year during the NLDS.
If the Padres don't try to get better and unfortunately
have to you know, be sellers to a certain extent
because of their ownership situation.

Speaker 2 (12:54):
Fabulous work. Dave. Coming home tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (12:58):
Yeah, tomorrow morning, I'll be back in LA and we'll
do a Dodger Talk from LA tomorrow. But I'm here
in the lobby right across from a big elephant statue.
I'm gonna post up here and do the show tonight.
Take some phone calls for the first time this hot
Stove season, and you'll hear from Dave Roberts and Andrew Friedman.
The final night of the winter meetings and locked.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Down of Kershaw's house while waiting for an uber on
a cold night in Highland Park.

Speaker 5 (13:27):
It was a little chilly.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
Dave ass a hero to the Dodger fans bringing the information.

Speaker 2 (13:34):
Have a great night, Dave. Congrats on a great week
out there.

Speaker 5 (13:38):
Thank you guys.

Speaker 2 (13:38):
Look forward to coming home us too.

Speaker 4 (13:41):
Thank you, Dave. We double up with Dodgers. Dave Assy
bids us farewell and we say hello to Dave Roberts
and the very next segment as your Dodger Station, home
of the World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Dodger discussions

(14:04):
will be had next hour Dodger Talk at seven pm
to the victors go the spoils p and we are.

Speaker 2 (14:13):
There's a lot of talk around the Dodgers in town.
Not much talk about the Lakers money and the Mune.

Speaker 4 (14:28):
Big thank you to Dave Assy. You got Brad Paisley,
you had Dave Roberts, Andrew Friedman and Dave Vassa invited
to Clayton Kershaw's house last night. So we take away
from that conversation.

Speaker 3 (14:45):
Yeah, vass somebody even alleged that he's flying too close
to the sun in the Greek mythology of Icarus and Daedalus.
Hell of a game and ge igorous. I'm just I'm

(15:05):
happy to Dave. You know, Dave's right there in the
mixed elbow to elbow with the biggest movers and shakers
in the sport he loves. Who would have ever thought
David Vassy, who used to have to squirt the line
in Joe McDonald's two leader, would have such access. God

(15:26):
bless him and the hard works that he does. We
have a lot to promote Matt while we wait for
Dave Roberts winning if he calls.

Speaker 4 (15:34):
He's on right now as a matter of fact, running,
Oh my god, him on hold, but a quick reminder
that along with the conversation we just had with Dave,
that he will have a Dodger talk coming up at
seven pm right after us.

Speaker 2 (15:45):
But it is time, Pete, it is time.

Speaker 3 (15:48):
He just got named Baseball America's Manager of the Year.

Speaker 2 (15:53):
He is on a world tour. Go him, not out.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
He is being celebrated everywhere. He is one of the
most beloved people in the history of Los Angeles. Now
a hero top to bottom from here Okinawa to the
Biltmore Hotel.

Speaker 2 (16:12):
Tonight period period.

Speaker 3 (16:14):
Perhaps you'll see him at the Gallery bar and thank
him personally like the Scouts of America are honoring him tonight.
It is World Series Champion manager you see, la alum
and an all around g joining us on your Southern
California Toyota Dealers Celebrity hotline.

Speaker 2 (16:33):
Dave Roberts, what's cracking, Dave?

Speaker 6 (16:37):
How are you so Betro's money You can tell my
voice is fleeting. Oh yeah, and I've got a speech tonight.
Oh no, but I couldn't. I couldn't miss this opportunity
to be on with you guys. And once I got
this intro from Betro's, I needed that intro. Well weird

(17:00):
down five zero in Game five and Yankee Stadium.

Speaker 4 (17:04):
Well, you didn't need much in the postseason. It was
a masterclass in managing throughout the playoffs, and no doubt,
I would imagine still quite exciting for you just looking
back upon it. But Petros kind of went through a
handful of the things you're able to do, Dave, and
I was able to see you down on the field
there at the charge of your game. You had that going.

(17:25):
Just kind of take us through this last month of celebration,
five six weeks of celebration and all the different things
you've been able to do, and how exciting it's been.

Speaker 6 (17:34):
It's been really exciting. Yeah, you know, I just got
back from the Winter Meetings in Dallas, but prior to that,
I flew to Japan and then received an award from
my hometown country in Okinawa, and did a trip in
Europe with my family which was R and R which

(17:55):
was great. But you know what, as I drive by
this USC Trojan sign right here in downtown LA that
Petros can be happy to see. Going to the USC
UCLA game was fantastic, And then the Spanos family brought
me to the to the Charger game for Monday night game.
So it's just been really good and tonight to get

(18:17):
the Scouts dinner at the Billmore so, just what they
do for me, to be honored by them is such
a such a really honor for me.

Speaker 4 (18:28):
Well, I'm doing it for memory, but I do believe
it's correct the Scout motto on my honor, I will
do my best to do my duty to God in
my country, to help other people at all times, to
keep myself physically fit, mentally awake, and morally straight. I
believe that is the Scout Yes, and wow, well done,

(18:49):
Thank you, thank you.

Speaker 6 (18:50):
I'd like to think that I have checked all those
boxes outside of the fit part of it. As I
get into my fifties, I need to do a better
job with that part of it.

Speaker 4 (19:01):
So you are being honored by the Greater Los Angeles
Scouting Good Character twenty twenty four Gallots tonight in downtown LA.
It's the Good Character Award. It celebrates your profound impact
on the LA community, your embodiment of the values of
character that define the honor. It's pretty cool, Dave, that
all the stuff you get to do, but at the

(19:22):
same time, it's all predicated on winning and I'll tell
you when it started, and when you think about the
way the Padres series started, with the injuries that the
team had sustained, just kind of where your head was
when this whole thing got rolling, and what your message
to the team was is you tried to achieve what
a lot of people thought the odds were stacked against
you to achieve winning the World Series.

Speaker 6 (19:42):
Well, you know what, it's interesting where we were at
at that point in time and prior to that series
just part of the series. And I'm going to mention
it in my speech tonight where I talked to our
guys about the talent is the floor for our group,
but it's going to be the character in the fight

(20:06):
which is going to determine our ceiling. And that's something
that I know our guys leaned upon, especially when we
were down to one to the Padres and our character
was tested all throughout the season in postseason and and
for me, and it sort of like ties a bow
to the season this award, because you know, we did

(20:28):
go to a lot of adversity, but our character did
show through, and I'd like to say that the players
took on my characters. So yeah, it's just kind of
the continued fight and guys, you guys have heard me talk.
I tried to reference a lot of you know, the
boxing analogy during a regular season, but in the postseason,

(20:48):
we needed to learn how to street fight, and we
did that this year, no.

Speaker 2 (20:53):
Doubt about it.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
The one and only Dave Roberts being honored everywhere, and
it's wonderful putting oak Now on the map. Not since
our favorite film, Karate Kid Part two has Oki Now
have been so relevant.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
And that is Dave Roberts' life story.

Speaker 3 (21:07):
He fought a guy and to the death right there
on an island during a dance, just like the Karate
Kid Part two. A lot of people don't know that
it'll be in the book later in life. And don't
forget about the Red Stitch Winery, which spiked in sales
after all this world.

Speaker 2 (21:22):
Series fan fare. You're a man from the city, Dave.

Speaker 3 (21:25):
You've been a West Coast guy in your life, and
you've won championships in great towns, you know, like Boston,
and we all were here in twenty twenty. But I
was surprised, were you surprised at the way the city
just flipped its lid for the parade and for the
Dodgers and for the championship. Did did any of that

(21:48):
kind of jump out to you? Because man, it was
pretty wild, wasn't it.

Speaker 6 (21:53):
You know what, outside of having kids, that was the
best day of my life. And you know, it was
a culmination of a lot of a lot of heartache,
a lot of a lot of waiting, and you know,
even you know, I spent the last last night I
was with Kershaw in Dallas and went to dinner some

(22:15):
guys and Fasset was there and some other guys, and
you know, we got that parade. I know, I can't
believe he got the invite, but that's another conversation. But anyway,
we were there and we were talking about that parade
and how much it meant. And you know, one person
we thought about was Justin Turner, and he didn't get
to be a part of that parade. And I think

(22:36):
the thing is with that parade is that it was
part of twenty twenty and part of twenty twenty four,
and so I didn't know what to expect, but I
was overjoyed at the emotions, their turnout of everyone in
Los Angeles, And like I said, that day is going
to be embedded in my life forever.

Speaker 3 (22:56):
What a wonderful thing, and what a wonderful man, the
great Dave Roberts. Will he have enough voice for the Scouts?
I would suggest maybe in mcgroni or a campari on
the rocks at the Gallery bar at the Biltmore Hotel,
the last place that the Black Doll you was seen alive?
Did the Red Stitch hit a big spike when you
guys wanted all, Dave?

Speaker 6 (23:19):
It did? Boy, Yeah, it hit a spike, it did
so with your advocacy and winning the World Series at
all help, So thank you.

Speaker 4 (23:28):
We don't want you to strain the voice too much.
So just real quick, last one day. We obviously got
to look toward next year if you can, however comfortable
you are talking before you have to deliver the speech
to the Scouts. Just the additions thus far, bringing back
Blake Trying in, signing Blake Snell, and bringing Michael Confordo
in and what that does for you going into next season?

Speaker 6 (23:49):
Yeah, you know what, We just keep reloading and Blake Snell,
Confordo trying and we're not done yet. But was a
baseball player that Oh I'm excited what our guys are doing.

Speaker 4 (24:09):
Oh yeah, clarity. By the way Clarendon works, if you,
if you, if you can't get the stuff in the
end of the allergy medicine. The old Clarendon d sometimes
will just drain you out and catch you cleaned up
for a quick speech, and then you get home and
knock it out.

Speaker 2 (24:22):
Otherwise, soil's a victory. My throat, My throat is wrong, Dave.

Speaker 5 (24:27):
We appreciate you.

Speaker 4 (24:28):
You're the best.

Speaker 2 (24:29):
Congratulations on all guys.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
All right there he goes, absolutely honorary Eagle Scout building
character scouting, good character. You got scouted hard on the
Textoso did I did I not do it right?

Speaker 6 (24:47):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (24:47):
I just let me read this one for you. I
don't want off the top of my head. I don't
want to get in the middle of a scout battle.

Speaker 1 (24:52):
Matt.

Speaker 4 (24:52):
You know I was just I was kicked out for
being a pyromaniac after I got my tenderfoot.

Speaker 3 (24:58):
I was kicked out because my father, it's not a
handy person cheated in the box car dirty by stuffing
the car with more weight than it had. The car
was very heavy and won by many yards noticeably heavy
corrections and retractions. Eagle Scout here, nice jab at the
Scout oaths money. But here it goes, Okay, on my honor,

(25:19):
I will do my best to do my duty to
God and my country, and to obey the scout law,
to help other people at all times, to keep myself
physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.

Speaker 2 (25:33):
There we go, and that last part for you.

Speaker 4 (25:37):
Yeah, I forgot to obey the Scout law, which is
probably why I was kicked out for lighting Sean Rashki's
tent on fire at Camp Blackhawk. And I just not
following the scout law.

Speaker 2 (25:47):
I did that.

Speaker 3 (25:48):
Here's another like Ronnie Fossio two ed Mono Tuesdays type
over the top chop, that's the oath. The motto is
being prepared sorry money.

Speaker 4 (26:02):
As they said, look, I thought it was the top
of my head.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
Man.

Speaker 3 (26:06):
I was impressed. Matt all I remember is my father
being like, you don't want to be a Scout anyway,
but I do. These are a bunch of losers.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
Look at these fools. They don't even know how to
make a Greek solid. What a great day. David Vase
having the time of his life.

Speaker 3 (26:28):
Dave Roberts pushing through the scratchy scratchy snatchy voice, Tim
Kats on Sports and at LA.

Speaker 2 (26:36):
Smelling like a Armenian. Dave was there.

Speaker 4 (26:41):
That's the story for another day.

Speaker 3 (26:44):
James Worthy, sighing hard when asking difficult questions about the Lakers.

Speaker 2 (26:51):
We got more to come next week.

Speaker 4 (26:52):
We'll have to ask him how many white castles he
could put down in one sitting in those days right
to probably two. They'd sell him by sacks of twelve.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
Twenty four of those and then do battle with the
Chief Robert Parrin from four quarter.

Speaker 5 (27:06):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (27:08):
We'll be back with more petros. Somebody on am I
seventy LA sport.

Speaker 4 (27:19):
