Me Petro Saying Money AM five seventy LA Sports were
live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. One more hour left
in our twenty twenty four calendar year of the Petros
and Money Show. A big thank you to all of
you for a great twenty twenty four be it here

(00:35):
on the AM band and I say here because it
could also be here on the iHeartRadio app streaming live
right now, or here listening on demand after we did
this live via podcast. We appreciate each and every one
of you.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Pee.

Speaker 2 (00:49):
We love the people that came out to see us
at a BJ's, at Santa Anita, at Rock and Bruise,
at one of the Petros and Money Show summer tour stops,
all those different spots we made. We thank all the
part that we had that hosted us, and of course
all the people that came out, even the early people
that didn't win a darn thing but kept showing up.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Yeah, we had a hell of a time yesterday in
beautiful West Colvina. Always a great room, always a great turnout.
And we will be back out on the road next year,
which is just in a couple weeks. Actually it's not
really much of a break, but it.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Feels out pretty early too next year.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Oh yeah, but it feels like a tremendous reset, just
a tremendous reset because we're going to take a little
time off and uh, we'll have the UCLA game tomorrow,
right and they need and then they'll double up on
the Clippers as well.

Speaker 2 (01:39):
UCLA North Carolina nooner out at Madison Square Garden. That'll
be right here, and then Clippers Mavericks, Luka, Doncic and
I don't know, what up, what up?

Speaker 1 (01:50):
What up.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
We'll see what happens there. Tip off at five thirty,
pregame at four thirty. Also right here on a five seventy.

Speaker 1 (01:56):
Seven o'clock is when on the Dot is when Great
Sports Talk takes the sports Talk. We got another hour
that you can stream live or podcast on the iHeartRadio
app or listen to later, you know, on the podcast
or on a five seventy. But the gratitude that we
feel for the listeners is real. All Right, it's time

(02:16):
for the final hour fun facts.

Speaker 2 (02:17):
In effect, it's yeah, we're three fun fun fact one
final Vietnam Christmas fun Fact for our season of Vietnam Christmas.
Speed dating became not wildly, but sort of popular in
the United States. Right around the mid to late nineties.

(02:41):
The speed dating thing kind of caught on. They made
a TV show and it started showing up all over
the place at bars they'd host speed dating nights. It
is something that perhaps they lifted from Vietnam a stable
for the hill tribes. For centuries, hill tribes from the
northern Reas Agens would meet at what they called love markets,

(03:03):
and young single people would come together from different tribes
with the intent of finding a mate, and they would
move from spot to spot to spot, meeting different villagers
from very remote areas love markets in the hopes that
they would find a partner in a centralized place. Yes,
a love market for Hill tribal individuals in Vietnam, and

(03:26):
that birthed the speed dating craze.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
Amazing, right, I Mean, the more and more I hear
about Vietnam, man, it sounds like a place I'd like.
The bee I'm with you, the beer, the mopeds, the
black teeth, the kitchen God, the kitchen God, and my
balanced five pronged sweet slash, spicy Yin and Yang meal yeah,
And the longer by enemy squats in the bush, the

(03:53):
stronger he gets. And the longer that I'm in this
hotel and Saigon, the weaker I get. Staring at the
ceiling fan thinking about hell. Time for quick hits, Toms,
quick hits, Come make it quick, y'all. Yeah, Matt, we're
all still waiting on ti Oscar. It looks like it's

(04:15):
gonna happen without us to make a decision in free agency.
Unless it doesn't.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
What's taking them sowly over bithered.

Speaker 1 (04:23):
Seems that way.

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Well, I don't know whether or not Tayo needs a
signing bonus for his holiday shopping. I'm assuming he's fine
after last year's twenty plus million dollar salad.

Speaker 1 (04:33):
A lot of seeds to buy, though, throwing around a
lot of seeds, I guess.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
The one sad part is perhaps it'll happen in the
next week or so while we're not on the air,
so we can't have the press conference post press conference,
petros and money.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
They won't do one t O Scar, They won't do
one when the guy re signs. They don't throw a
party for him. Only when they it's only when they're new,
like smell so we won't have to worry. Yeah, what
do you know, we don't have to worry about that.
That being sad. If a tree falls in the forest,
then Petros and Money aren't there to tell you what happened.
Did it even happen at all? Will he play on

(05:06):
the team? Who knows? Nope, Lakers are fifteen to twelve.
They're gonna like the beam again tomorrow. They would not
let the beam be lit. Last night, Lebron James said
another record last night, becoming the all time leader in
NBA regular season minutes. Here's the King after the game.

Speaker 4 (05:25):
But it's a pretty cool honor obviously, anytime I'm linked
with some of my grace they've ever played this game.
And you know what I've been available to my teammates.
You know I've been able to do this at a
high level over two decades. Yes, and continue to put
myself in and you know, record books in this game
of basketball, and I love so much in the best
league in the world. It's pretty cool and it's very very.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Humbley twenty two years, thirty eight minutes per game, gonna
break a lot of records. And you said, yet everybody
hates you.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
Yeah, it's amazing go figure. Clippers play tomorrow Charge. We
talked about it last hour nine and six, coming off
a huge win over the Broncos last night. They're off
until next Saturday, when they travel to Foxborough to face
the New England Patriots. The Rams are hot eight and six,
winners a three in a row. They're in the first
place atop the NFC West. If Matt Stafford was more likable,

(06:20):
people in the city would love him.

Speaker 2 (06:21):
Well now, I think Matt Stafford is likable. I think unfortunately,
his as they like to call it, better half has
forced some to find him unlikable. But by all accounts
it seems like Matt Stafford's fine.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Well. I mean I saw him walk away from that
woman who broke.

Speaker 2 (06:40):
Her back at the behest of his wife. No, she
she was like she want here. She actually get out
of here. She did a much better job than he did.
The Raiders are two and twelve. They're home Sunday versus Jacksonville.
Aiden O'Connell's going to get to start a quarterback, but
they're gonna tape his arm down so he can't play
well exactly want to lose eight and O'Connell's gonna fight

(07:02):
sort of.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
College football playoffs are underway in South Bend Notre Dame,
Indiana tomorrow Penn State, SMU Texas versus Clemsone, Ohio State
and Tennessee the other three playoff game is going to
be a lot of fun. Danny Canell joined us last
hour and we did the college football Whip in the
four o'clock And UCLA linebacker our hero, Captain Schwest Carson Schwesshinger.

Speaker 2 (07:29):
What have we got?

Speaker 1 (07:29):
He's going to the NFL Draft. How about that former
walk on led the Big Ten and tackles and freaking animal.
He's a unit named first Team All American, first Team
All Big Ten finalists for the but gets good for you,
young man and college hoops Matt that keeps on rolling.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
Noon tomorrow right here, Mick Cronin schedules bravely already neutral
site in Phoenix against Arizona. Now neutral site New York
City Basketball Mecca, Madison Square Garden for a new LA time,
not a nine am LA time, but a nooner LA
time three pm out there right here on Am five seventy.

(08:08):
Going to be a hell of a contest between two

a quote historic broadcast deal with Netflix for the twenty
twenty seven and twenty thirty one Women's World Cup. Netflix

the first of which will be three years from now.
The twenty twenty seven FIFA Women's World Cup take place

hear American Samoa is currently in the.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
Joining us right now on your Southern California Toyota Dealer.
Sele Hotline is the BFF of the Petros and Money
Show and the final appearance of twenty twenty four. He'll
be right back week one of twenty twenty five, which
is not that far away. You see him on the
Big Ten Network Fan Duel Sports NBA Award winner. The

(10:19):
next ass he kisses will be the first leading scorer
in the history of the PAC twelve, which is now
pretty much defunct. But there is a statue in Lemon
Park in his hometown of Seami Valley that commemorates him
that I receive photographs of weekly on the secret textile
slide on your Southern California Tell you to do this.
Celebrity Hotline again is the one and only Don McClain,

(10:43):
the Snake Killer himself. What's cracking down? Merry Christmas? How
are you? Yeah?

Speaker 3 (10:48):
Merry Christmas? Guys? Speaking of the PAC twelve interesting tomorrow,
and it's just another example of the weirdness of the
landscape of what we're in in college sports. Have Stanford
Oregon tomorrow, which is a Big ten acc matchup. Wow
in San Jose.

Speaker 1 (11:08):
Tim Kaits was very, very bullish in November that you
just mentioned that UCLA was going to be a Final
four team. Don do they look like they have that
kind of caliber, that kind of potential as the year
would go on, or will Tim Kates go down in
flames again?

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Well, I would say this. I'm not ready to say
they're a Final fourteen, but I would say that we're
far enough in now across the country that I don't
think there is a dominant team or teams where you're like, well,
there's this echelon and then everybody else. And I think
if we're saying the first echelon is fifteen teams, I

(11:46):
definitely think ucill is in that first tier.

Speaker 2 (11:49):
What do you like, so they're about to get into
Big ten play? No, obviously you've been watching a lot
of Big ten basketball. You know how important coaches are,
how big and do you think it's a big jump
when you're talking about the likes of Tom Izzo and
Matt Painter and even like Greg Gard at Wisconsin or

(12:10):
Fran McCaffrey at Iowa. Is this a big jump in
competition from the Pac twelve to the Big Ten?

Speaker 3 (12:17):
Yes, because of what I said earlier about there's this more.
I mean, first of all, it's an eighteen team conference now,
not a twelve team conference. You got coaches that have
been around forever. You mentioned pretty much all of them
that have been around, and so it's just the consistency
that you have to have if not only are you
going to win the Big Ten regular season, but like
get a good seed in the NC Tournament. There's no

(12:39):
nights off. And I've said this since day one, and
I think I'm sure I've said it to you guys.
It's not so much the travel for me, it's the
arenas that they're going to every night. Like you ain't
going to cal in front of twenty one hundred people
or Stanford or Washington State. You're going to Macki Arena
and fifteen thousand every night, Bloomington fifteen and every night.

(13:00):
And so that's going to be the challenge I think
for these players is getting used to these hostile environments
every single time they play on the road.

Speaker 1 (13:09):
The great Don McClain is our guest his final appearance
of twenty twenty four. He'll be in Santase over the
weekend for Oregon versus Stanford, and I'll.

Speaker 3 (13:20):
Tell you big, big ten acc if you.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Ask, if you say, hey, where's the Silicon Valley, Don
will be able to say, right over there. We'll switch
to the pro ranks. Don. The Lakers are two and
oh since Max Christy has been starting and it seems
like he plays defense. Is it that simple?

Speaker 3 (13:40):
I don't think it's that simple. I think you know,
there's ebbs and flows in an NBA season, and you
know they had lost a bunch in a row, or
at least a few in a row, and they get
back on track. We'll see how long they can sustain it.
But it's it's a long season. If you look at
the West standings, it's it's pretty interesting because you got
five teams with twelve losses, and yet those five teams

(14:03):
are only like three games out of first place or
second place, and so there's a long way to go
in this And you know I've said this before. Whoever
can get on a seven eight nine game win Streak's
gonna probably find themselves in the one or two slot
in the West. So whichever team that is, we're gonna
find out. But I'm not sure it's it's. You know,

(14:25):
there's no team I'm looking at. Maybe Oklahoma City seems
to be that team, but they were that team last
year in the West and they didn't they didn't end
up getting to the finals. So we'll see.

Speaker 1 (14:36):
Don McClain. Ladies and gentlemen love it. You'll know him
driving around the Ventura County area because of the mounted
taxidermy reindeer head on his car and the big smile
on his face of course, and the ringing bell wherever
he goes. Don, we appreciate you, We love you. I
have a great holiday and a great trip up to

(14:57):
the Hull and we'll talk to you soon.

Speaker 3 (14:59):
Yeah, Marry Chris, guys, enjoy your time off.

Speaker 1 (15:01):
Thank you, Don, and we'll be back with Mark great
sports talk. Everybody knows what's coming up next. Dead It

The Dodgers' Clubhouse Store is the official team store of
AMI seventy, LA Sports who of course, damn straight it
is and Matt you got the Dead Guy Birthday other day,
I do.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
One of our favorites, George roy Hill, the entertainer. I
do believe my father had very and spell. He's still alive.
He has a very strange taste in music. There was
a moment in time where the entertainer was his favorite
song tough to Be.

Speaker 1 (16:35):
You know, I mean, gotta catchy tune.

Speaker 2 (16:38):
Yeah, this would just play in the house on vinyl
on a forty five daily.

Speaker 1 (16:46):
I live in a silent movie.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
It's very weird. He and Paul Newman were a hell
of a team. Hill, at a particular moment in time,
was the most successful director in Hollywood, the only person
with two of the top ten all time highest grossing
films in cinematic history. He was born in Minneapolis. His
family owned the Minneapolis Tribune, so he was a child
the privilege that went to the fanciest prep school in town,

(17:08):
the Black School. And after the Blake School, Yes, he
went to Yale Music degree. Made his way over to
Trinity College in Dublin, where he studied Joyce. While there
he fell in love with flying and after sil you.

Speaker 1 (17:24):
Know that if it's by studying the blind James Joyce,
the one thing he really want to do is get
up in the air.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
Pilot and aircraft. He was fascinated with World War One
flying aces. He consumed any and all books and articles
covering them. He loved classical music. He was a hell
of a pianist. He was a Bach historian. WW two
breaks out. He enlists as a transport pilot with the
Marines flying in the South Pacific. Korean War shows up.

(17:53):
He is recalled, this time as a fighter pilot for
the Navy. Rose to the rank of major following that one.
Then he was stationed in Cheerpoint, North Carolina as a
flight instructor. George roy Hill could fly his balls off,
which is why in a lot of movies you'll see
a lot of planes and plane crashes, some comical.

Speaker 1 (18:12):
I mean, I say, if you're gonna be flying your
balls off, it's good to be stationed in Cherry Pop,
North Carolina.

Speaker 2 (18:20):
Exactly right after he was discharged, got into the family business,
but not the family paper. Worked for a paper in Texas,
but then wanted to get back to Dublin's who we
could finish off? His literary degree literature degree thesis on
Joyce's use of music in Ulysses and Finnegan's Wake. I
know something you would certainly like to try.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
I'd love to read that thesis.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
He started acting in the Irish theater. Then he came
back home the big town Shakespeare on Broadway, classically trained
our man, George roy Hill.

Speaker 1 (18:50):
Richard first play was ever in in Ireland was called
Whiskey Drunk Punch to the Head.

Speaker 2 (18:55):
And that's what he did, and go Catholics and a
high kick through the Protestant He did take me to
the Shrew and then came out to La landed a
few small roles on the silver screen, started writing screenplays
based on his experiences at war, did some episodic TV,
back and forth each coast. Couldn't decide what he wanted

(19:16):
more film TV. Here Broadway in New York City, he
won a bunch of awards. He was regularly cited as
the best director on Broadways, so feature films became available.
Period of Adjustment was his first Jane Fonda Hanoid Jane
on This Vietnam Christmas Friday a big success. Bitch Hawaii

(19:38):
in nineteen sixty six was a monster, fourteen million dollar budget,
a huge commercial success.

Speaker 1 (19:44):
On the time everybody was going to Trader Vix. You
know right, that's what everybody wanted.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
Making one of them cool drinks as thoroughly modern Millie
with Julian Andrews was another big hit. He missed Broadway,
so we went back to New York for a bit.
But then he got his big ones in Hollywood. Paul Newman,
Butch Cassidy and the Sun Dance Kid. As you hear
here with Baccarat seven, Oscar nominations, won four the Sting,

(20:12):
he won the Oscar for Best Director seven in total.
I think George roy Hill's perhaps greatest achievement was convincing
Paul Newman to star and slapshot a script that he
absolutely adored. He cast Glenn Close in her first ever
film with Robin Williams, The World. According to gart final film,

(20:34):
I believe it to be incredibly overwhelmingly way underrated. Okay,
Funny Farm with Chevy Chase in nineteen eighty eight, and
then he decided he was done. He retired from filmmaking
to teach at Yale, his alma min Paul Newman said
theault George roy Hill was a stickler for tardiness, absolutely

(20:59):
abhorting on set and while making Butch Cassidy. The first
time someone was tardy, he would take them up into
his airplane and scare the Bejesus out of us. That's
a direct quote. Uh, he was married to Luis airplane.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
That's it.

Speaker 2 (21:16):
Get in there, you might die. Don't ever be tardy again.

Speaker 1 (21:19):
It feels it feels like me being late. You know,
this is just delayed things more.

Speaker 2 (21:23):
Yes, we're now up in a plane for the next
hour two Sons would have been one hundred and three
to day. If you've never seen slap Shot, I hope
all of you have, But if you haven't, please try
to watch it.

Speaker 1 (21:34):
It's not appropriate for the time, Matt.

Speaker 2 (21:36):
It's not It could never be made today.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
James the lyrics A baby, it's cold outside, Okay, you
want to watch? You want to want us to watch
slap Shot masturbation?

Speaker 2 (21:45):
I do, I do? I want you to watch slap Shot.
Damn it well, George roy Hill.

Speaker 1 (21:50):
You might think you're done, Matt. You might think, oh,
it's over for me now. I could just sit back
and watch Notre Dame and polish my knob.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
As finish it off and finish the damn game off already.

Speaker 1 (22:03):
You might think you're done, Matt. You might think you're
done and Vass's coming soon, but you're gonna have to
sing for your tape before five. And we even pulled
a riff.

Speaker 2 (22:14):
Wow, surely going out on a low note.

Speaker 1 (22:17):
Today we celebrate Yun Kai Sang. It's forty five years
old South Korean actor and singer pretty big star who
started way back in the late nineties after answering an advertisement.

Speaker 2 (22:35):
I'm here in rap.

Speaker 1 (22:36):
Yeah. Well, this is that boy band he was in
g O D G period O period D period.

Speaker 2 (22:43):
No, it doesn't.

Speaker 1 (22:45):
It does not stand for that matted Okay, Matt. It
stands for Groove Overdose shows you what you know? Seven albums,
sixteen years of g O D and UH annivers album
and Rekindling. Une did his military service in twenty five.

Speaker 2 (23:07):
Probably like that, well done, Well, it's mandatory. Some of
them skirt it though, you know, they're like.

Speaker 1 (23:12):
Wow, it was acting. His career was taken off, uh,
and he was in the demilitarized zone and then the military. Yeah,
and then the military had him do some entertaining in
like a military entertainment branch thing. A fan once sent
him a poisoned drink in the mail that his mother
I don't know why she drank it, but she did

(23:34):
and her stomach had to be pumped.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
What. Yeah, his mom drank a drink that came in
the mail.

Speaker 1 (23:40):
That was poison from a fan and her stomach was pumped.

Speaker 2 (23:45):
That's bad decision making right there.

Speaker 1 (23:46):
I would say he owned a cereal bar, like a
late night bar that served cereal with a b Yeah,
and a bunch of other Korean stars they all owned
this one which was popular for a while, but a
small business closed in twenty eighteen. But he's a big star,
much like Otani, who's married to an athlete, but married

(24:08):
to a non celebrity in Korea. Now, okay, are you
ready for some titles? Man, there's just a few to
end the year. Just five. Play the riff for him,
so he gets a field form, right, not bad? Right?

Speaker 2 (24:30):
I got it?

Speaker 1 (24:33):
Yeah? I well, yeah, a lot like that. I found.
I found a YouTube guy of guy doing guitar risks
teaching people what to do. All right, here we go.
First title, Lovers of six.

Speaker 2 (24:45):
Years, Lovers of six years?

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Correct?

Speaker 2 (24:48):
Okay, hit it coming up? Almost seven years? Is it's
year six? And I'm getting scratchy stretch of six years?

Speaker 1 (25:03):
All right? All right, wow, what a way to end
the year. Right, Okay, here we go, Matt. You just
referenced it during the George Hill Talk High Kick, Revenge
of the short Legged.

Speaker 2 (25:18):
All right, Tim kats got damn Tata tot legs. Buddy
still got a high kid.

Speaker 1 (25:26):
He's looking for revenge.

Speaker 2 (25:28):
There we go. I need you to help me lock
it out, all right?

Speaker 1 (25:32):
The last one or a third one with little men.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
With little men men hold on, let me find my
with little man with little Man, Okay, got it. I'm
going to the bar with little men because I'm the
best looking dude for the chain.

Speaker 1 (25:58):
Warren, Is it because you're tall?

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Ah? You can tell I have a Napoleon complex and
hate being around my tall friends. Why do you always
like being around these guys? It sucks head in your
pocket like that. The painful longing is worse than the breakup. Oh,
the painful longines is worse than the breakup. Uh, painful

(26:23):
long and it's worse than the breakup. Okay, I got it.
I live in so she's in Beijing, my painful long
it hurts so much. We got to break Where do
you live, soul? And she lives Beijing.

Speaker 1 (26:39):
Wow, that is a tough one because you're going from
a communist country to a capital East.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
It's very hard at the border.

Speaker 1 (26:48):
When love becomes troublesome.

Speaker 2 (26:55):
When love, when love becomes troubles some of the Okay,
I'm in love with her. She asked me to knock
off her ex, and I'm gonna do it.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
If she's asked you to murder her ex, that is troublesome.

Speaker 2 (27:14):
It's an action film.

Speaker 1 (27:16):
Well, that's it for us, and that's it for the
year in great sports talk. So we hope you have
a wonderful holiday. Be safe, please enjoy your evening, and
