Davids the Home of the Dodgersday with an inside look
at the Dodgers. This is the Vass Report with David Vasse.

Speaker 3 (01:59):
David vas joining us right now. He's been on top
of this. The Dodgers signing. Roki Sasaki announced at around
three o'clock via his Instagram. The Japanese Superstar will be
the third Japanese superstar that the Dodgers have brought in
in a little bit over a year thirteen months. This

(02:21):
one does not cost as much money for the Dodgers,
but this guy throws over one hundred miles per hour.
David Vasse from Spectrum Sportsnet LA and from the Dodgers
broadcast right here on MFI seventy LA Sports a hero
in the World of Baseball MLB network, as well on
the Southern California Toyota Dealer Celebrity Hotline. Hello Dave, Hey, guys.

Speaker 4 (02:45):
Yeah, I mean I was scrolling through Instagram and three
minutes after Roki Sazaki posted that Dodger had an announcing
that he had signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers,
I had to confirm that that was really his account.
And I guess that's the way things are going these days,
where athletes have these platforms and it's not Jeff Passon

(03:07):
who's breaking news a lot of times, it's the players
that break their own news. And certainly a lot of
excitement in the Dodger front office. They have put in
a lot of man hours their scouts in the Pacific
rim my understanding talking to people that are friends with
Andrew Friedman. They told me he had a lot of
sleepless nights. He was enlisting videos from Clayton Kershaw to

(03:32):
send to Sazaki as recently as yesterday, so they really
wanted this badly and they kind of needed him. Guys.
I know we've been talking about how this may be
a luxury, but if you look at the Dodger pitching
staff the way it ended last year, they had two
and a half starters in the postseason last year to
win the World Series. Tyler Glassnew did not pitch the

(03:55):
entire second half. Yamamoto missed months of the summer with
shoulder issue, so as deep as it appears on the surface,
they kind of needed a fresh arm in this rotation.

Speaker 3 (04:08):
How close did he get to Canada, Dave.

Speaker 4 (04:11):
They were trying to do everything possible to win out Sazaki,
and as recently as today, you know, trying to add
two more million dollars to their international pool money. They
had double the amount to offer Sazaki than the Dodgers did,
who were one of the teams that had the lowest
amount of international money because of the luxury tax penalties,

(04:35):
where they only had about five point six five point
seven million dollars compared to the Blue Jays who made
that trade with the Guardians to take on salary to
get two more million dollars in international spending. But at
the end it didn't mean anything. And Sazaki's agent, Joel Wolf,
his words proved to be true because the first day

(04:56):
that he was posted, while we were at the Winter meetings,
agent said that the money that he's going to get
now is not something that's going to be a make
or break decision because he's going to be with that
organization for six years. Taking more money, whether it be
two million or five million in this case, would be

(05:17):
kind of a short sighted play and that was never
what was going to drive his decision. But yeah, it
was the Blue Jays at the end, not the Padres,
that was probably the biggest competition or threat to the Dodgers.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
So, Dave, does this mean? And I know with the
off days and the bullpen games and all of that,
but like, if you think about the Dodgers, and you've
talked about Bobby Miller, but even if you take him
out of it, like if everybody's helping, and I know
that's crazy to say, but like they have six starters, right,
If Otani's going to pitch with Snell, glassnow, Yamamotos, Sosaki, Otani,

(05:55):
and Kershaw, that's six pitchers. Are they going to go
to a six man rotation?

Speaker 4 (05:59):
You think, well, I think they've said that. Yeah, they
are going to implore employee and deploy six starting pitchers.
And look, I've said this before. I know the Dodgers
haven't put out a press release about it, but ever
since Andrew Friedman took over, he basically has found a
way to give his starters five or six days of rest,

(06:22):
at least five days of rest, even without a quote announcement.
They're going with a six man rotation because they have
been able to maneuver the schedule, maneuver the roster to
be advantageous to giving guys extra days rest. And when
you talk about guys like Clayton Kershaw Matt, I mean
he's coming off a pretty significant foot surgery and then

(06:46):
left knee injury that required surgery as well. He's not
pitching any time before May at the earliest. So you know,
when you talk about they have so much pitching, you
set it there. By the end of last year, they
didn't have much pitching, even though in spring training it
looked like they had more than enough. So I think

(07:06):
that was that was the thinking behind signing Blake Snell
and definitely being aggressive to try to sign Roki Sazaki.
And let's not forget it's not just about this year
with Sazaki. I know Andrew Friedman believes Sazaki has the
potential to be one of the best pitchers in the
game by the end of year six.

Speaker 3 (07:29):
Interesting. David Massey is our guest. The Dodgers are bringing
in another Japanese superstar. Roki Sasaki will be a Dodger. Dave,
we talked about it a little bit. I mean there's
been articles written. I mean it's universal in baseball, but
the Dodgers have been criticized for all these guys getting hurt.
You just kind of detailed, you know, all the different

(07:50):
guys that missed time all the time. Matt talked about
it as well. It doesn't seem to deter anybody from
signing with the.

Speaker 4 (07:58):
Dodgers, No, and what the Dodgers had working for them was,
like I mentioned, I think we all forget the fact
that being World champions and having a team that has
a very good roster already to try to repeat is
really attractive. Not to mention the geography of Los Angeles,
so that's a huge advantage trying to recruit these type

(08:21):
of players from Japan and the Pacific RIM that plays
into their favor quite a bit. And also the fact
that Sazaki has two former teammates on the Dodger roster
that will make his transition that much easier and more comfortable.
It just was lined up perfectly for the Dodgers, who

(08:41):
have had their eyes on him for not just months,
but years, to try to have Sazaki sign with the Dodgers,
and for it to be at the league minimum to
start out with for a team that's well over the
luxury tax I mean, the rich get richer in a different.

Speaker 3 (08:57):
Way, Dave.

Speaker 2 (08:59):
I know we've talked about it before, but maybe for
people that aren't really paying attention to potential signings now
that he is a Dodger. You know, we've heard Steven Strasburg,
Paul Skeens like this guy would have been the no brainer,
number one overall pick in the draft fast track to
get to the majors. And granted it's not necessarily fair
because he's twenty three years old and he's been pitching
professionally for a little while now, but is this like

(09:22):
the even with Yamamoto consideration. I know he's only twenty five.
But it sounds like this guy's got stuff that's like generational,
like only you know, guy of his era, once in
a generation prospect kind of stuff. The way they describe him,
comparing that splitter and the fastball to Kurt Shilling and
Roger Clemens.

Speaker 4 (09:41):
Yeah, that's that's why the Dodgers were so aggressive and
trying to sign them. They saw that stuff. Other teams
saw that stuff. That's what a lot of evaluators around
the league believe. And like I said, I know Andrew
Friedman believes this guy has the potential to be one
of the best pitchers in Major League based ball within

(10:01):
the next six years. With consistently being at one hundred
miles an hour, his split fingered fastball is you know, devastating,
and he's also working in other pitches. So you know,
he's only twenty three years old and he's already considered
a guy that has great stuff. It's only going to
get better from here if he's able to handle the

(10:23):
expectation the bright lights in Los Angeles. That's another factor
that doesn't show up on the data sheet. Is he
built for LA. We're going to find out.

Speaker 3 (10:34):
David Vasse will be the one to find out generally
is at the real underscore DV on Twitter, the Dodgers
sign another gigantic Japanese prospect player, and it's is there
going to be more Japanese media following the team? I mean,
aren't they already at critical mass?

Speaker 4 (10:55):
Yeah? From what I understand, Yeah, I think there can
be more. I'm not sure how much more, but yeah,
there can be more. It's wild and our friends, by
the way at MLB Network wanted me to let you
know they're re airing the twenty eight World Baseball Classic
or twenty twenty three World Baseball Classic semi final featuring

(11:18):
Tazaki coming up at five. So when you're doing the show,
to turn that on and you could see how good
he was in the World Baseball Classic.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
Does this help maybe delay Otani's return or do you
think that is completely independent of anything.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Else, completely independent. The Dodgers are going to be extra
careful with Otani, like I have said before with other
valuable pitchers that are coming back from injury. The Dodgers
are not focused or going to emphasize Otani being ready
for April or May. They want Otani ready for October

(11:55):
for the biggest stage for the postseason, So you know,
whether he makes his first start in April or in May,
that doesn't matter because I know they say they don't
put an innings number on a guy coming back from
his second Tommy John surgery. You got to imagine it's
not going to be more than you know, one hundred

(12:16):
and twenty one hundred and fifty innings. And that goes
into having a six man rotation as well. And with
the Angels guys, you know, I was with Mark Gubazaw
the other day. There were times where Otani felt like
he couldn't make a start and that would reshuffle the rotation.
So you've got to be prepared for that as well,
you know, mutually exclusive to Yamamoto and Sazaki. Otani himself,

(12:39):
let's not forget he's the most unique player in baseball
who's also one of the best hitters in baseball. And
if he if he with the Angels, whenever he would
maybe overextend himself in a game that he was not pitching,
there were times where he would tell the Angels, hey,
push me back a day or two, or push me back.

(13:00):
I push back this start. So that's part of the
equation as well.

Speaker 3 (13:04):
David Massey is our guest, the lightest on the Dodgers.
Roki Sasaki is gonna be a Dodger, Dave. We had
Chris Taylor on in the first hour. Are you gonna
go to his pollings? Yes, that's exactly how he sounds.
Are you going to go to his polar plunge in February?
Or is that below you? I mean, how do you
handle that you went to the top golf event.

Speaker 4 (13:26):
Yeah? Yeah, it is beneath me. But I'll decide. It'll
be a game time decision if I decide to show up.
But I do like Chris, I do like his wife Mary.
They're great people, and I think it's a unique way
to raise money and hopefully it all goes to the
people that need it, and I know it will. So
they were out there today at Dodgers Stadium distributing all

(13:47):
those free stuff for the fire victims. So yeah, I'll
be out there. Petros, no doubt.

Speaker 2 (13:53):
Did you hear God the water to hear our conversation
with him, Dave, because he said.

Speaker 4 (13:56):
He would not for conversation with him.

Speaker 2 (13:58):
So he wants you in a speedo. He wants you
in the water, and then when you come out of
the water. He wants to hand you a microphone so
you can then do interviews with all the Dodgers that
are there in your speedo after exiting the polar plunge.
That was his specific detail of what he is requesting
from you.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
Well, I'll wait for that in written form. I have
not gotten any notice from the tailors.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Okay, Mary or Chris to him.

Speaker 4 (14:23):
So not only does he want to embarrass me, he
wants me to upset his teammates by having them to
answer questions from me.

Speaker 2 (14:31):
Yes, that's exactly and that's what I mean. Am I
getting it wrong? P That's what I thought, he said.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
I that's what I heard. But you know you can
always everybody can podcast it on the iHeartRadio app. It'll
be up.

Speaker 4 (14:41):
I can't wait to do that.

Speaker 3 (14:43):
Dave, thank you so much and uh great work following
this story. Uh. I guess the last thing is who's next?
KEYK I mean, what do they do next?

Speaker 4 (14:53):
I told you don't rule out Tanner, Scott Pattersonzaki's signing
an international minor league contract does not take up a
forty roster spot there. The Dodgers are at thirty nine
right now. That is a spot for a major league reliever,
which the Dodgers are on the record as saying they're
looking for, and Tanner Scott is the best on the

(15:14):
market right now.

Speaker 3 (15:16):
Tanner Scott, beautiful man. Have a good one, Dave.

Speaker 2 (15:20):
Thank you, Dave.

Speaker 4 (15:21):
Thanks guys, What.

Speaker 3 (15:24):
A day If you're a Dodger fan. That good looking
Cubs fan on Instagram is going to do a rant
pretty soon, I'm sure.

Speaker 2 (15:32):
Oh yeah, do we remember her name?

Speaker 3 (15:34):
I just think I said it.

Speaker 2 (15:36):
Handsome lady Cub fan, Lady buxhom cub Fan, attractive, screaming Lady.

Speaker 3 (15:42):
Comley Cub fan. Matt, We're going to talk some NFL next.

Speaker 2 (15:49):
Yeah, let's shift. I mean, it's huge news. We can
continue to talk, but come on, let's leave some for
the other seamheads. The Dodgers won't do it, we might
as well.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
Don't hog at all.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
You can have some Atlanta YouTube, Hal Reynolds, you two
brother al YouTube, can have a little bit. What's that
Alex Curry over there on the local news?

Speaker 3 (16:12):
You got it?

Speaker 2 (16:12):
You take some Rokie right now.

Speaker 3 (16:16):
Football talk with a voice of the Boats coming up next.
Welcome back, everybody, the Petrosen Money Show back with you. You're
home of the World Series champion Dodgers and the rich
get richer. No skin off the Dodger fans. Nos Roki Sasaki.

(16:39):
He's now a Dodger, not a Padre, not a Blue Jay,
a Dodger. Third Japanese superstar they've signed in a little
bit over a year. This one not as expensive as
Yamamoto or Otani. Huge news he decides to be a Dodger.
We had the breaking news earlier and Matt and Tim
talked about it. He put it out himself on the Instagram.

(17:03):
The reason we're on early we started at too. Sasaki
signed around three, were announced at around three because we
got UCLA Iowa tip off at six o'clock right here
on Ami seventy. Don McClain talked about that in the
last hour, but right now because we got a NFL
action on the station this weekend too. Let's get to
the top story of the next top story of it.

Speaker 2 (17:25):
Before we get to the division around this weekend, of
which you will hear right here on your home of
the nflam five to seventy LA Sports. You will get
both Texans the Chiefs, followed by Commanders v. Lions tomorrow,
starting at one pm a couple stories surrounding the Chargers
and the Raiders, both eliminated from the postseason, while the

(17:46):
Rams still alive, and we'll get after it on Sunday afternoon,
first with the Chargers. Even though Harbaugh, when asked about
the wild card round and what's different about the playoffs
his description of football death that that's what's different, that
you die your football life when you lose in the playoffs,
he has risen able to make his way around town

(18:09):
and reportedly heard that the folks were a little bit
weary out there at Will Rogers State Park as they
were battling that Palisades fire, and asked if he could
provide a little pick me up. Rolled out there last
night for an hour or two and was rapping with
all the first responders, the firefighters, the police department, and
just making his way around there, and a lot of

(18:30):
people said, great great impact, great amount of time spent.
So way to go, coach, even though his Chargers suffered
what he described as football death less than a week ago,
able to maybe lift the spirits of even just one
person out there as they grow weary from fighting these fires.
As for the Raiders, a lot of people upset Pee
a lot of people not happy about this. Tom Brady's

(18:52):
broadcasting while owning five percent of the Raiders and conducting
a search for their next head coach and their next GM.

Speaker 3 (19:02):
Why what's the problem Is there something bit of a
confluence of events happening?

Speaker 2 (19:06):
Well, you tell me. Apparently, Ben Johnson's the hottest name
on the market right now and the no although I'll
tell you if you can load up on some horse
tranquilizer and get after it, Ben Johnson, the offensive coordinator
of the Lions, uh is going to be coaching in

(19:27):
a game that you will hear right here tomorrow afternoon
that Tom Brady is calling. So many say eh, gets
to wax poetic about Ben Johnson, gets to talk about
how brilliant he is, gets to meet with them, all
that sort of stuff, and maybe they don't like it
so much. But our man Vinnie b the man who

(19:47):
will order and take home six entrees for an in
person appearance with the Rogan and Rodney Show at local DJs.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
Matt's referring to Vinnie Bomb, senior of the formerly of
out here the LA Daily News now writes in Las
Vegas and very Raider connected.

Speaker 2 (20:06):
And does not want to eat while he's doing two hours.

Speaker 3 (20:10):
Takes a lot of to go, a lot, a lot
more to go than one man should consume after a
beaja three bags at a place he doesn't really work. Okay, yes, yeah, as.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
A fill in, do it. Thank you Vinny for filling in.
Appreciate Vinnie reporting that the Raiders and Ben Johnson seemed
to be a match. And then Mike Florio, not wanted
to be scooped as he's supposed to be an information
breaking news sort of guy, is reporting big cash and

(20:40):
Ben Johnson gets to hire his own GM. So for
those wondering, why wouldn't you want to go to Chicago
where you have all this talent in Caleb Williams and
a bunch of money to spend and a ton of
weapons to work with, or down to Jacksonville where you
can have a reclamation project with Trevor Lawrence, a very
patient owner and shot com someone who spends a lot

(21:01):
of money, they say, because he does not want to
work with Ryan Poles the GM in Chicago, nor does
he want to work with Trent Balky the GM in Jacksonville. Instead,
he would prefer to hire his own like Jim Harbaugh
did with Joe Ortiz, like Pete Carroll did with John Schneider.
That worked out really well for Pete after about a decade.
And that is why he'd be willing to Hey, man,

(21:23):
you're only here because me, man, And that's why he
would take the Raider job despite being in a division
with Andy Reid, Sean Payton, and Jim Harbaugh, three teams
that all made the postseason, versus maybe the AFC South
where it seems like that division is winnable, or maybe
the NFC North, a division he knows very well. Oh
here's the other thing, if in fact the numbers are

(21:44):
to be believed, that he is willing to commit six
years and ninety million dollars guaranteed to Ben Johnson fifteen
million bucks a year, almost the exact same amount that
Jim Harbaugh got coming off a national championship and three
consecutive trip to the NFC Championship Game when he was
the head coach at the forty nine Ers. For his
first ever head coaching gig Ben Johnson six years, ninety million,

(22:07):
that would mean the Raiders will be paying four head
coaches at Onemember. They gave John John Gruden a ten year,
one hundred million dollar deal. Yes, do you remember that,
Josh McDaniels a six year, sixty million dollar deal, and
Antonio Pierce was brought back on a two year deal,

(22:28):
and they would then sign Ben Johnson to a six
year deal. So if you go by ten twenty, I'm
guessing Antonio Pierce maybe three million max. Twenty three plus fifty.
You're talking about thirty eight million dollars paid next year
for their head coach.

Speaker 3 (22:45):
Maybe the A's will start acting like that when they
moved to Vegas and they'll become less broke. I mean,
I mean, it was a long thing talked about. Randy
Moss and these guys talked about how they wouldn't eat
in the Raider facility in Oakland. They'd run out to
food and all those different things and warrent sap. You know,
they've all disparaged them. But they've moved to Las Vegas.

(23:07):
There's a lot of money flowing through that city. They
got a brand new arena. The NFL teams make so
much money now. The spanos'es, who were always maligned for
not spending money on facilities and things like that, have
made a big turn. I guess it's just kind of
par for the course, yeah, the norm is now.

Speaker 2 (23:27):
Yeah. As for the playoff games, p I'm not going
to take the recency bias bait. Yes, I saw the
Texans defense dominate the Chargers offense after that first drive
of the game. Still stick it does. You got the
explosive Herbert and mcconkee td the only exception to that rule.
But outside of that, Chargers offense could not get anything going.
They themselves to blame for a lot of it. Drop passes,

(23:49):
pick sixes, and the Chargers defense had the Texans offense
on the ropes but got zero support from the other
side of the ball. Eventually they wore down. It's not
going to be the case with the Chiefs finally getting
health white receiver. They're coming off three weeks of rest. Yes,
it's a bad matchup for them. They're tackles versus the
Texans edge rushers, perhaps the best pair of edge rushers

(24:10):
in the game, and Daniel Hunter and Will Anderson with
their one hundred and twenty pressures and twenty four sacks
on the season. Not a great matchup. But it's Patrick Mahomes.
It's a Chiefs defense that's been really good on this
Super Bowl run winning back to back Super Bowls kind
of led by their defense, while their offense compliments that.
And I think it's probably good enough to do to
the Texans what the Bolts defense did to the Texans

(24:32):
in the first half, it was basically a brilliant save
by CJ. Stroud on a third and sixteen and a
snap that scored it away that launched that touchdown drive.
Other than that, it was a donut pitched by Jesse
Minners bunch. You feel like Spagnolo's group can certainly match that.
And you got Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid on the
other side to put up some points to maybe make

(24:53):
this thing look like Christmas Day. When the Ravens hammered
Houston thirty one to two, it's a big number. The
division around regularly has lopsided results, but I will lay
the eight and take the Chiefs to win by double digits.
Outside of the opener to kick off the season, Commanders
have not lost by nine and a half points all year.

(25:14):
So on the three game losing streak mid season, they
dropped one to the Steelers by one. They lost to
Philly by eight the Cowboys by the same margin. Since then,
they've atoned for both of those losses, beaten the Eagles
at home and the Cowboys on the road. They play
tight games. They lost to the Ravens by a single score.
So unless this Detroit defense is gonna knock Jayden Daniels

(25:35):
out of the game, Jaden is having a sensational rookie season. Summer.
Point to how his stats mirror Caleb Williams. Those that
are trying to stick up for Caleb taking too much
incoming as the number one pick.

Speaker 3 (25:47):
Versus number we pick up all the trash.

Speaker 2 (25:49):
Yes he did. I would say just watch the games.

Speaker 3 (25:51):
Hey, what the papers and the trash.

Speaker 2 (25:55):
RK. Maybe the stats look the same.

Speaker 3 (25:58):
The games don't look the satats don't tell the tail.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
No, really, Jayden Daniels looks like a top five quarterback
in the league as far as this season goes. Daniels
when the games and the balance is at his best,
when his best is asked to be delivered, He's been
clutch zero fear. Despite being about one hundred and eighty
five pounds. He continues to take shots. Probably not why's
long term, but hey, for this season, he's got just enough.

(26:23):
When it comes to weapons, they'll probably get more for
him next year, and he's going up against the Detroit
defense that is down to backups nearly everywhere. So I
assume the Commander is going to be able to trade
blows with Detroit. I don't know if they can see
him winning, but they're not going to lose by more
than a TD. So I'll lay the nine and a
half and take the Commanders. Toughest one I think for
me is Rams Eagles. You look at the regular season,

(26:45):
Eagles wrecked the Rams offensively, defensively. The crowd was heavy
in green, singing Fly Eagles Fly. It seemed like every
five minutes or so with all the scoring. But it's
hard to see that happen in this time around. Even
though when you see thirty seven twenty in that regular
season game, you forget the Rams score of TV with
a minute left that was thirty seven to fourteen after

(27:06):
fifty nine minutes. Saquon Barkley had the game of the
year for a running back two hundred and fifty five
yards and two scores, and even sat out a chunk
of that fourth quarter. Philadelphia forced four fumbles, They sacked
Matthew Stafford five times, hit him eleven times. However, three
of those sacks and four of those hits, a forced
fumble and a fumble recovery. Are not playing Brandon Graham

(27:26):
n Kobe Dean both out of this one seems like
a pretty big deal. At the same time, the passing
game kind of came alive for the Eagles. You got
aj Brown and Devonte Smith over their last three games
of the regular season, combining for forty two catches, five
hundred twenty five yards and six touchdowns. I don't trust
Hurts to I don't either.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
That's a thing.

Speaker 2 (27:46):
You got Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts versus Sean McVay
and Matthew Stafford. Is it is hard to sign up
for that. But then that's what people were saying about
the Packers. You want Jordan Love and Matt Lafleur, or
you want Jalen Hurts and Nick Sirianni. And I'll tell
you pe as you like to say, it's a real
Barry Krocka.

Speaker 3 (28:04):
Well it is. I mean, I mean the quarterback and
the coach or something. But it's uh, I don't know.
This is a tough t Put those sick kids on
the plane. It might make the difference.

Speaker 2 (28:18):
You know what, that could be the difference. You got
Vic Fangio versus Sean mcvaigh, two brilliant coordinators doing battle.
Vic the DC who has free reign over that defense
that's become the number one defense in the league to
go with the number one offense in the league. Kind
Of hard to see the Rams overcoming it, yet I
watch them wreck a fourteen win Vikings team and Brian Flores,

(28:39):
who led one of the top defense and is probably
gonna win the Coordinator of the Year. Mcveig hung twenty
on them with another seven coming from the defense in
two and a half quarters, and then they just took
the air out of the ball. I'm gonna take the points.
We'll take the Rams and the six and a half,
and I don't know, maybe that guy Big Dom or
whatever his name is, will be able to punch some
life into the sideline as the Eagles can get over

(29:01):
the hump but just can't lay a touchdown. Final game
of the weekend Ravens at Buffalo. This is the game
of the week. Single degree temperatures, three to six inches
of snow. It'll be spectacular out there in Orchard Park.
Everything tells you this is the year of Josh Allen.
He wins the MVP. The Bills finally get over the hump.
They win the Super Bowl. Their worst game of the year, though,
was against the Ravens, and Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry

(29:23):
absolutely made a mess of the Bills defense, a model
of efficiency with those RPOs. Henry ran twenty four times
for two hundred yards in a touchdown, Lamar six for
fifty four in a touchdown. Lamar only had to throw
eighteen passes to get his two touchdowns. It was easy now.
It was a late September glorious fall evening in Baltimore,

(29:46):
not three degrees six inches of snow in Buffalo. But
you would guess the Ravens team might welcome that. Run
the hell out of the ball and see who comes
out ahead. James Cook and Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson
and Derrick Henry. Each team did exactly what they were
supposed to do. In the wild Card dominated the competition.
Steelers were never in that game, and after a first
TD to jump up seven to nothing, the Broncos were

(30:08):
outscored thirty one to zero the rest of the way.
I just it feels like Josh Allen is an alien
right now, like he just whatever whatever they need.

Speaker 3 (30:17):
He filed an alien. I'm a legal alien.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
It could be that engagement to his beautiful soon to
be bride that has put a little extra pep in
his step.

Speaker 3 (30:28):
Tarzana's finest.

Speaker 2 (30:30):
But I will lay the one and hope because everything
here says take the Ravens. But I will hope that
the season of Josh Allen can continue and maybe we
can get that Detroit versus Buffalo neither has ever won
a super Bowl to be on our TVs come mid February.

Speaker 3 (30:47):
NFL analysis that is thorough enjoy the games and coming up,
we have got your dad and a live guy Birthday
of the Day. But remember this, Roki Sasaki is a Dodger.
That's the big story today. We've been monitoring what he
might or might do very closely for the last six
or seven days, and he has decided to become a Dodger.

Dodgers have secured an another Japanese superstar. We talked to
Vassay earlier. You can podcast that on the iHeartRadio app.
Big news for Dodger fans all around the world. Well, Matt,
you got the dead guy Birthday of the Day today?

(32:12):
I believe I do.

Speaker 2 (32:14):
And uh, this was an easy one. Personal gallantry and
intrepidity displayed in the management of his brigade and in
leading it in the assault in which he was wounded.
Guy was shot in the freaking head and that's his
medal of honor citation survived, shot in the head, survived

(32:38):
and went on to lead multiple battles in the Civil War.
We are your Civil War Show of record signings Happy
would have been one hundred ninety six Lewis Addison Grant
no relation to Ulysses.

Speaker 3 (32:53):
Common name.

Speaker 2 (32:55):
Very highest education at the Vermont Academy. At he became
a school teacher, working in and around town, guide in
the youth, while also simultaneously working on his law degree.
Gets admitted to the bar, opens his practice in Bellows Falls,
Vermont in sixty one, and then he gets the call.
He's thirty three years old, and now he's a major

(33:17):
in the fifth Vermont Infantry. Promoted quickly lieutenant colonel by September,
full colonel a year later. Gets shot at Fredericksburg.

Speaker 3 (33:28):
Well, a lot of guys got shot at Fredericksburg, Matt,
that's right, and he was one of them, a lot
of Union guys. They really wore it. Old Burnside left
him out there pretty exposed.

Speaker 2 (33:38):
What did he get for that? Well, just assume the
command of the famous Vermont Brigade and lead it during Gettysburg.
Anybody gets shot there. Well, after Gretisberg, he was appointed
brigadier general and commanded the second Brigade, second Division. The
man fought in everything we mentioned Fredericksburg, Fredericksburg too as well, Williamsburg,
Crampton's Gap, and tet them Hell and Gettysburg. You got

(34:03):
thirty five thousand Union soldiers killed alone.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
And tietam Is before Gettysburg. And that was that was
in Maryland also, and that was McClellan's finest down.

Speaker 2 (34:14):
So you have those all up. And this guy managed
to survive when tens of thousands did not. Sixty five.
He gets Spotsylvania Courthouse, twelve thousand killed there, moves on
to siege.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
Rossberg for fighting Joe Burt Booker seeds of Petersburg. Things
are really turning there.

Speaker 2 (34:30):
Ten thousand killed there. He gets shot in the head
at Petersburg, shot in the head.

Speaker 3 (34:36):
So he was shot in the head at Fredericksburg and petersb.

Speaker 2 (34:39):
No takes a takes a shot to where, I don't know,
somewhere on his person, but not the head. So the
head was detailed. At Petersburg a shot twice, once on
his body, once in the head. In eighteen sixty four,
he survives a shot to the head. Louis you good? Yeah,
I'm good. Great, get the Sailor's Creek and then appomats.

(35:03):
You got to get in the mix in there too.
I mean, my.

Speaker 3 (35:06):
God, well, any wanted to see it end in a
flourish Matt. You know.

Speaker 2 (35:10):
He was.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
It seems like he wrote out the whole.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
Thing, and he wrote the whole thing out. Ulysses nominated
him for appointment, but he politely declined. The pair were
very close. He wanted lew by his side at every
major campaign. A bright guy, a fearless guy, they say,
a very likable guy.

Speaker 3 (35:28):
But he was just done.

Speaker 2 (35:29):
You know what, guys, I've been shot twice once in
the head. I'm just gonna go ahead and call it.
He practiced Law went back to being a school teacher.
Just when he thought he could settle down, his country
came calling again. Benjamin Harrison made him the US Secretary
for He married one son. He would name his son
Ulysses Sherman Grant. His son would go on to become

(35:51):
a famous geologist and run the geology department at Northwestern,
one of the finest geology departments anywhere in the world.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
They know where everything is.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
This would finally be able to retire to Minnesota, where
he died buried their ninety Medal of honor. Lewis were
out ahead.

Speaker 3 (36:09):
Grant, beating out Matt's favorite Mariy Povich, Oh the best,
and beating out Matt's second favorite, Shaba ranks. That's crap
Shaba and you know it, Shaba, that's crap. Shaba is
Jeny the all time great names Oh Shaba ranks. Jendy Tartakovski.

(36:30):
Jendy Tartakovski is fifty five years old today. He is
a real juggernaut in the modern world of animation. Oh
Soviet born American animator, writer, director, born in Moscow, son
of a Jewish dentist. His father was the Soviet national

(36:52):
ice hockey teams dentist.

Speaker 2 (36:55):
Well, that's going to keep you busy though, right.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
You know they're gonna lose their teeth. Not to be
confused with the guy from Mighty Ducks two who was
the dentist, the evil coach of Iceland. You were a disgrace.
Timia says, going dot.

Speaker 2 (37:12):
That's right, that's where they're going.

Speaker 3 (37:14):
Well, the family left worried about anti Semitic behavior in Russia.
They moved to Italy and then they were like, oh,
these people are also anti submitted. They moved to the US.

Speaker 2 (37:25):
Yeah, it seems like you took a wrong turn there
ended up in Italy after the Jewish thing might be
a problem in Russia.

Speaker 3 (37:31):
He was drawn to art, settled in Chicago, loved the
comic books and went to Lane Tech in Chicago, Gone
Go Champions and then Cal Arts and then he met
Craig McCracken at Cal Arts and their student films became
Dexter's Lap, the show of the Cartoon Network. He first

(37:54):
started animating and learning how to animate on one of
the great animated series of art lifetimes, Batman, the animated series.
Then he got Dexter's Lab Going, which is awesome. Samurai
Jack series if you're familiar with that as a huge following,
and a film and video game. Samurai Jack's unreal, okay,
and it's a for adults, but it's it's really My

(38:17):
little brother loves it. He did Star Wars Clone Wars.
That was right, cool cartoon. It was a cartoon and
it seems to be a real creative juggernaut. He's married
with three kids. Now. He really started making money about
thirteen years ago. He did and directed a Hotel Transylvania.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
Oh God, I thought that was Sandler that hes.

Speaker 3 (38:39):
In it, but he doesn't direct it. This ad is
then two and three and four.

Speaker 2 (38:47):
Get the series and next thing you know, you got
a lot of money now.

Speaker 3 (38:49):
Yeah, and now he has a full cross studio deal
with Cartoon Network and Warner Brothers, so basically he can
make any cartoon about any of the stuff that they
have the rights to. But he's never making Dexter again.
The voice of Dexter died the woman that did Dexter,
so he said he's done with Dexter. Which is the best.
One of the shows he's got on now is called
Unicorn Warriors Eternal, and it's an adult swim show on

(39:14):
Cartoon Network. But I do have a clip from I
love Dexter's Lab. I think it's really one of the
greatest cartoons ever. And here is a clip Dexter researching
his sister's slumber party.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
Here's a clip.

Speaker 5 (39:27):
I must observe them into natural elementary. They must not
know I am here. I will need an ingenious camouflage.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
You. This group looks dope.

Speaker 6 (39:42):
Mem It's a fat bit that I can back out
to you.

Speaker 5 (39:50):
Dexter's lock field supplement. I am here keeping the heart
of the bowels of a primitive and dangerous tribe of girl.
It has been said that they sometimes exhibit human behavior.

Speaker 2 (40:01):
You can't have that spot every time.

Speaker 6 (40:04):
YE saved the tug dat dap no raises snap snap
snap no tap dap erase his nap snap.

Speaker 5 (40:11):
Why I can see them now jogging for their territorial rights. Incredible?

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Will you and Lily dies do? I got it?

Speaker 5 (40:24):
Darby sleeps at Flamortown.

Speaker 6 (40:26):
The very patch sweeties should grow in the shade of
baby and the mountain, and the my little unicorn bag
should mask below the glow in the dark unicorn poster, unicorns,
sandwich my unicorns.

Speaker 3 (40:46):
You get the idea.

Speaker 2 (40:47):
There's the accent you spoke of.

Speaker 3 (40:49):
Yes, many Dexter's lab. Fine show Jendy Tartakovsky a great animator,
director and producer.

Speaker 2 (40:58):
All right, that's dead in a lie.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
Coming up.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
We'll have your quick hits and of course give you
a few more details on the big news today. The
window opened on the fifteenth. It ran through the twenty third,
but it only took two days to become official. The
Dodgers win the Rokie Sasaki sweepstakes. They sign him after
a late push by the Toronto Blue Jays. The padres
dropped out this morning. The Dodgers put pen to paper

(41:23):
and Sasaki will be pitching for the Dodgers this upcoming
