Speaker 3 (00:49):
Vernon just was something that I told everybody at the
very beginning of the week. I will not tolerate when
you steal my januators that think it's about then what
it's about the team. We cannot make decision that costs
the team and then come off the sideline and it's
nonchalant lister un limited.
Speaker 4 (01:08):
You got mister personality here on the phone.
Speaker 1 (01:11):
I think perhaps we want a more conscious life.

Matt talked a little bit about the Super Bowl, probably
not enough. I mean I wanted to hear his expertise,
but only did a little bit. With the number of
the day.
Speaker 2 (01:46):
Love that prop you.
Speaker 1 (01:49):
Brought to you by Prospect Love It. Pregame starts at eleven,
kick off at three point thirty. We got a lot
of hoops coming up tomorrow, UCLA and the Clippers, and
don't forget David vas Say with Dodger Top At seven
o'clock tonight, Tommy edmund Night will join the show the
Great Korean American whose jersey has been given away on
(02:09):
Korean Heritage Night that we discussed yesterday in the first hour,
So that's who he'll have on at seven. But now
it's time with the Top Story of the day.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
We're doing it again. We're gonna keep it consistent, back
to back to back to back to back Top stories
of the day all five days this week super Bowl
Week on the Los Angeles Lakers. After all Wow, man,
it is warranted after what leather jacket Polinka pulled off
(02:46):
over the weekend to acquire Luka Doncic.
Speaker 1 (02:49):
You can't find the real jacket.
Speaker 2 (02:50):
You can't retailer's you know why?
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Could be could be custom one off.
Speaker 2 (02:55):
It's a custom That's why I can promise you the
producer of such a prolific jacket would have put their
name out there by now. It is a custom tailored jacket.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
I offer myself as tribute.
Speaker 2 (03:11):
You can feel the heat of what Polinka put together
no matter where you live. Like the Dodgers, the Lakers
have an incredibly wide reach. And while I don't expect
people to approach each of us, Tim Runnie Petros me
and start up a chat about the Lakers, when things
(03:32):
like this happen, it is inevitable the casual fan or
the dedicated fan wants to share their two cents on
the move of the twenty twenty five calendar year thus far,
watching lebron to five father time yet again last night,
Dominate that game put on a show for anyone who
(03:54):
was watching have an awkwardly choreographed moment with his teammates
where they placed the full crown on his head after
a forty point outburst. I wasn't necessarily thinking about that
individual and his individual effort, but instead the broader landscape.
When it comes to sports in Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (04:17):
You're like Olmsted, Matt, the guy that built the Central Park.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
You don't want to be this flowery, no ridiculousness, this
fanciful bs. You wanted to blend the broader landscape.
Speaker 2 (04:29):
Part of the fabric of our everyday society. And that
is what this team has become. How fortunate we are
to have all of these franchise owners now competing with
one another for our fandom. And do not think for
one second this is not dominantly due to our displaying
the Dodgers on the daily or to the Dodgers winning
(04:52):
the World Series, but really more to the Dodgers having
been the best team in baseball in the regular season
over the last decade and now not having but one,
yet two World Series in the last five years. They
have taken over this town. They are the most popular franchise.
And while we used to say it was one and
one A or one A and one B with the
(05:12):
Lakers and the Dodgers, it has been for the last
five years a Dodgers town and it has not been close,
but this very well could move the Lakers back into
that one B spot and they were content prior to
this move for Luca to work on the margins. Their
season tickets were sold out, They had Lebron James, celebrities
(05:35):
were going and sitting in the court side seats because
they wanted to witness one of the great players in
the history of the game before he called it a career,
and that is what they did. They got lucky by
stepping in it courtesy of our friend Nick Mazella when
they found Austin Reeves to be that half player to
make it a two and a half with Anthony Davis
(05:56):
and Lebron James, allowing them to make a run at
the West Drink Conference Final. A jewel in the rough.
We don't say diamond in the rough here because we
don't believe in blood diamonds. We would never say that.
We say jewel in the rough.
Speaker 1 (06:08):
Money Show, seven week anniversary of the Tim Kaits Concordia
Masters in Coaching podcast.
Speaker 2 (06:14):
The that's a jewel episode, but a jewel episode, we
don't say diamond. Now you can have your blood diamonds.
These are lab diamonds.
Speaker 1 (06:22):
Iway over here. O. K.
Speaker 2 (06:23):
Then we're awright with that.
Speaker 1 (06:24):
But truly, I was not consultant about our anti blood
diamond stance. I'm all for it.
Speaker 2 (06:29):
This is a Laker franchise that has not made a
significant splash of the trade deadline, that has not made
a major sign in trade in the off season, a
major splash with a free agent in a long time.
Speaker 1 (06:41):
I mean, they don't call me free market petros for nothing.
Speaker 2 (06:44):
The gap between the Lakers and the Dodgers has been
increasing year after year after year to the tune to
twenty four dollars meets you a lot us. And while
the circumstances twenty eight, oh my god, had to present themselves,
and you could chalk it up to a bit of
luck that, for whatever reason, the Dallas Mavericks decided to
(07:06):
get rid of Luka Doncic. It's still worked out and
they still had to make the trade. And they're still
going to hand that guy you trunk somewhere around a
half to three quarters of a billion dollars before his
ten years here is over.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
You guys don't know what he's like. We don't care, We.
Speaker 2 (07:22):
Don't care why because they have to. I don't think
the Los Angeles sporting fans dollar is limited to choosing
between the Dodgers or the Lakers. But considering for Laker games,
you got to pay a hell of a premium.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
The NBA, not just the Lakers. The NBA has priced
everybody out exactly. And it's not more evident anywhere else
than it is in this town when it comes to
how many people can go to the Dodger games and
how many people just can't go to the Lakers or
Clippers game because they're too expense and they suck. It's
not as fun.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
So you've got to put some bait on that hook.
You can't just drop the hook in the wall and
all that's on it is a crusty ass, dried out
chicken liver that's forty years old and played twenty two years.
You gotta get some fresh bait on that hook. Oh
so he's a chicken liver if you want to get
a nibble. But that changes with don Ji. He is
(08:17):
the fresh chicken liver. He is the grasshopper. You put
that on the hook and people are gonna bite.
Speaker 1 (08:24):
Now.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
I am not saying he is sho hal Tani. Nobody
is even at this stage of his career, Not even
Lebron James is show hail Tani. But once people in
Los Angeles get their eyes on Luca, the best parallel
I can draw is the great Xenodane Zidan, a true
magician when in control of the ball. And for people
(08:47):
that weren't watching soccer back then, now that soccer has
taken over a very significant chunk of the American sporting fan,
they will get up early to watch the EPL. They
get incredibly invested in the World Cup. Prior to that,
nobody knew who Zidon was, and then when they'd see him,
they'd be like, holy crap, Wow, that guy's really fun
to watch.
Speaker 1 (09:06):
People got to I mean, to be fair, the only
thing people in America know about Zadan is that he
head buttted that guy's chest into oblivion.
Speaker 2 (09:12):
And that's not fair. Does he done? Because he's a
wizard with the ball on his feet. For people that
have not been watching Dallas Mavericks basketball here in Los Angeles,
perhaps it will take but one game to get a
taste for what Doncic has the possibility to do for
the Lakers. Now they are not alone the Lakers. Once
the Chargers moved here, there were concerns about ownership and
(09:34):
whether or not they would operate on a budget that
was in step with what's expected from a franchise in
the city of Los Angeles and not San Diego. And
all they've done in the last four years is made
Joey Bosa justin, Herbert Derwin James unlikely. This offseason, Rashaan
Slater the highest paid player at their position. They fired
a coach who was making four million dollars and replaced
(09:55):
him with a coach that is making four times that
sixteen million bucks, when they could have gone out to
get the latest hot assistant and worked on a budget. Instead,
they have a front office and his staff that is
costing them twenty five plus million dollars because that's what
they have to do in order to gain relevance. In
order to compete in a market that the Dodgers, who
(10:18):
just won a World Series with shohe Otani and Mookie
Bets and Freddie Freeman spent to get Blake Snell and
Roki Sasaki and bring back Tayoscar Hernandez. There is no
other way to approach it than to compete with what
the Dodgers are doing. They have set the tone, and
the Lakers and the Chargers and the Rams and trading
(10:40):
a Super Bowl quarterback and Jared Goff that nobody cared
about for somebody they had thought had a better chance
to be a superstar. But turns out all he was
was a guy that brought his wife was a pain
in the ass to Los Angeles in order to get
some relevance. And while it hasn't worked out with Lincoln
Riley and USC, they still had to take the big
swing last year. UCLA Basketball collect of realizing there is
(11:01):
no shot of putting asses in the seats at Pauli
Pavilion unless they put a product on the floor that
has the potential to win an NCAA tournament. They went out,
they did it, and now hashtag pack Pauli.
Speaker 1 (11:14):
I knew a guy that proclaimed they were going to
be in a Final four after one game.
Speaker 2 (11:17):
Hey, he's feeling pretty good about that proclamation now wasn't
so much a month ago. Steve Balmer has not been
able to find the right combination of players to make
his Clippers compelling. Instead, construction is the route. He took
a two billion dollar most incredible Basketball arena on planet
Earth in the hopes that people would roll in after
dropping seventy to one hundred dollars on parking, experience facial
(11:39):
recognition technology, and enjoy it to a point that they'd
be willing to come back again and again, and therefore
find their Clipper fandom. There truly is no other market
that is remotely close to what we have going on
here in Los Angeles. Look at New York where you're
gonna go. You got the Mets, you got the Yankees,
But look at the football team. It was right there
documented on hard knocks. They didn't want to pay Saquon Barkley,
(12:01):
and he was the most popular giant. The Jets routinely
shortchange their fan base with low pay rolls or quick
band aid fixes. Chicago hasn't been relevant in fifty years.
Boston the Red Sox, despite making five hundred million dollars
a year, have a payroll that's outside of the top ten.
They're content to rest on the popularity of the Green Monster.
(12:23):
Yet here we are as the Dodger station. And yes,
perhaps there is a little bit of built in bias.
Speaker 1 (12:29):
Yeah, I mean Chicago and they won that World Series.
They're pretty excited onut Maryland.
Speaker 2 (12:32):
The Bears have sucked for thirty years, that's true, the
Bulls for twenty five. Like, you gotta compete, you have
to spend, you have to win, or you will fall
behind in this market and you'll fall behind quickly. And
we owe it all to the team. That will be
discussed at seven pm with off day Dodger talk as
David Vasse focuses on the squad that sets the pace
(12:57):
in the Great Los Angeles area.
Speaker 1 (13:00):
Time to be alive. Sean Merriman joined us in the
last hour talking about the Super Bowl, and Matt just
talked a little bit about the Super Bowl sort of
kind of.
Speaker 2 (13:09):
Well on the number of the day we hit it,
we'll do.
Speaker 1 (13:11):
The F one report then why not that super Bowl
related right? Sure? Coming up next.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
Petro send Money A five seventy LA Sports Live Everywhere
on the iHeart Radio going till seven pm, and then
David Vassie will be long along with off season Dodger
talk as he gets ready to head out to Camelback
Ranch this weekend. Give you a little preview of what
you can expect when pitchers and catchers report and how
the whole spring training thing is going to roll out.
(13:43):
We'll talk to him a little bit later. Yeah, we'll
have our own review, have our own preview of the preview.
So the very next segment, if you want a preview
to the preview.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
We're gonna talk to Dave Nett.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
You're gonna want to be here.
Speaker 1 (13:52):
It's like when a yacht opens up and a little
yacht comes out of that.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
Yet we're the little yacht.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah, well that's our interview with David Vassi. Is yacht
leading to the big yacht that is Dodger Stadium leading
to the shipping liner that is the Dodgers trip to Tokyo.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
Exactly.
Speaker 1 (14:09):
It's time for the F one Report, Matt Yes, twenty
twenty five calendar will mark the seventy fifth anniversary of
the FIA Formula One World Championship and we if the
Pettersen Money so calf one Report, the only Formula one
report on terrestrial radio in the United States is that right.
Will begin our sixth season reporting on the highest level
(14:32):
of motorsport, the most provincial and overly technical form of
racing in the world. The season will begin in Australia
on March sixteenth and feature twenty four Grand pre weekends,
including six sprint races, spending five continents from March through December.
After Australia mat the F one Circus heads to China,
(14:55):
then Japan before moving to the Middle East China for
races in Bahrain, in Saudi Arabia. Just like in twenty
twenty four, there are three races here in the States,
Miami in May, Austin in October, Vegas in November. C
Sweet James about your travel. What Formula One weekend will
Sadie Kate's attend. Last year it was Montreal for the
(15:17):
Canadian Grand Prix. This year, I believe she has her
eyes on Las Vegas. Austin oh stankrrept Matt. As we
like to do, we inform and we educate Austin a
lot of changes in the driver's line up this season.
Let's take a quick job through the paddock to review
(15:38):
the changes. Only two teams did not make changes to
their drivers lineup For twenty twenty five. McLaren, the reigning
Constructors Championship, returns the sprite like Lando Norris and Azzie Wallaby,
Oscar Piastre to the Papayas. Aston Martin returns the venerable
Fernando Alonso and shockingly retained the Canadian disaster the Great
(16:02):
White Failure, Lance Stroll, Oh, it's so ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (16:07):
I'm surprised he stuck around this long. I wonder you
know what it is.
Speaker 1 (16:12):
I don't know. We agree, Lance, your return is ridiculous.
His dad Ferrari made the biggest move in twenty twenty
five Matt By sacking Carlos signs for seven time world
champion Sir Louis all Right Hamilton. Sir Louis A. Howld
will team up with Little Chuck Leclair to see if
they can bring the Prancing Horses the first drivers championship
(16:36):
since two thousand and seven. Williams quickly signed up the
departed signs the smooth Operator. He will pair with Alex
Alban as they try to retain their glory from the
late nineties. The remaining six teams will all feature rookie drivers.
Mercedes returns the curiously odd looking George Russell and couple
(16:58):
him with the eighth teen year old Kimi Antonelli. That
Italian youngster has been called Toto Wolf's Golden Boy and
will be tasked to replace the iconic Sir Lewis all right,
Howlta Matt. The Silver Arrows have rushed Antonelli through their
junior program as he has shown promise. His sixth place
(17:20):
finish in the Formula two Championship last season was impressive,
to go along with some notable wet weather performances. The
Merks believe that they have an Italian for stopping on
their books. But will you have the same anger as
the lustful prince don't give it up?
Speaker 2 (17:38):
Have to meet his dad to find out.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Jos, speaking of for Stop, who will be his new
teammate now that the great al topatio Checho Perez was
cast aside by red Bull.
Speaker 3 (17:50):
Thank you for that.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
Nice that's video?
Speaker 2 (17:52):
Fan, Well o good, you're right about that, Checko. It
is very unfair.
Speaker 1 (17:56):
After just eleven Grand Prix starts, Liam will draw the
unenviable task of being mad Max's teammate, and we're gonna
have you up. The young Kiwi has displayed a fearless mentality,
going wheel to wheel with two time world champion Fernando
Alonso last year in Austin. He'll try to succeed where
Pierre Gasni, Alex Alben and Sergio Perez failed. But if
(18:20):
you can hold his own against his teammate, one of
the greatest drivers in the modern era, Lawson can help
to get the Bulls back in the running for the
constructors Championship. Now in the midfield, Matt or what some
people like to call the punters.
Speaker 2 (18:36):
The most exciting portion of the F one grid.
Speaker 1 (18:39):
Generally, well, you know, got it pretty exciting last year, sorry,
Jack Douhanhano Boy becomes the second Aussi to earn a
Formula One drive this season as he joins Alpine to
pair with the French puzzo slinger Pier Ghastly at has
Allie at has Ali. Berman gets the drive where he
(19:05):
will pair with Esteban o'conne, who was sacked by Alpine
after clashing with his fellow countryman gets lead. Bearman replaced
Carlos Signs for Ferrari last year at Jetta when signs
appendix exploded and remarkably finished in the points in his
debut drive. His biggest challenge might be dealing with the
(19:26):
temperamental o'conne, who is notorious for his off putting personality,
the David Vasse if you will, of Formula one, who
kicks sober Matt named after the inexcess album has Miko
Holkenberg from Has and will put him with the Brazilian
(19:47):
Gabriel bork Pole. Leto Borto. Ledo is a reigning Formula
two champion after winning the Formula three championship the year before,
a feat achieved previously by the odd looking George Russell,
Chuck Leclair and Oscar Piastree. They will try to move Has.
(20:10):
They will try to move out of the winkers and
clowns category. Lucasta from now we have a bunch of winko. Yeah.
Perhaps the most interesting pairing of the new season comes
from the newly named Racing Bulls Team.
Speaker 2 (20:30):
Yeah. I saw that. I was like, they hell, the
Racing Bulls.
Speaker 1 (20:33):
Well, they're like red bulls, except but they race.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
They like the race, unlike them other red bulls.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
And then racism has something to do with it.
Speaker 2 (20:40):
As well, that's right.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
The former RB Honda will team up with Yuki Sonoda,
the diminutive yet fiery driver from Nipond, with the rookie
Isaac Hajar. Hajar do not leave the door. Hajjar finished
second in Formula two last season, losing the championship in
(21:03):
the final race. The French Algerian's raw pace has always
been noted, and that has carried over into Formula Watch.
Speaker 2 (21:11):
Just their third new knee, Like your team stinks. They
stunk when they were Alpha Tori, they stunk when they
were are Behinda, and they're gonna stink when they're racing bulls.
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Not if the jar doesn't leave that door. Ajar and Uh.
He outpaced Sonoda in the offseason testing not hard to do. Hey,
Sunoda's pretty good. Go back to how dare you? He
will also challenge Yuki as Yuki is known for his
explosive radio outburst. Not since the foul mouth Finn the
(21:45):
Great Kimi Raichanan, who retired out to the twenty twenty
one season as the Petrolsen Money F one report, enjoyed
such anger in vitriol on cockpit audio. Dick, you'll tell
me now, what did you tell me?
Speaker 2 (21:59):
Now you don't? That's good stuff.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
That's a great question. If you don't tell me, how
the f should I know of? Partick? You'll tell me
now what did you tell me? Now? You don't tell Man,
We're telling you now. Kimmy Ajar is gonna light up
that cockpit audio. He's a fiery Algerian now Jeeves, we
are happy at the F one report to welcome the
(22:25):
rookies expressive personality and look forward to bringing his colorful
and unique mastering of Broken English swear words to the
racing fans of southern California. So a little over five
weeks to the start of the season, But what happens
until then, Matt quite a bit. Preseason testing for all
(22:47):
the teams will take place on February twenty sixth through
the twenty eighth and ball rain.
Speaker 2 (22:52):
Very exciting.
Speaker 1 (22:53):
First time we get to see and hear the F
one machines for twenty twenty five come to life. But
the first time we will see the new driver and
team liveries will take place on February eighteen, when Formula
One presents F one seventy five live from London's two Arena.
Oh we should go like the NFL Honors right.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Oh yeah, let's get all dialed up and take photos there.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Get Bill Belichick with his Roadex chick on his arms.
Speaker 2 (23:19):
Check out my chicks teas.
Speaker 1 (23:21):
In honor of the seventy fifth anniversary of Formula One.
Speaker 2 (23:24):
We're awarding guys that got their heads stomped for seventeen games.
Check out My Lady's Teas.
Speaker 1 (23:30):
This year's campaign will be launched in unprecedented style with
a season opening gala showcasing all ten teams where they
will reveal their new liveries and kick off the campaign
in style. Two hour show begins eight. It's gonna be
(23:52):
better than the Heisman.
Speaker 2 (23:52):
I'll tell you that it's gonna be terrible. It's gonna
be terrible.
Speaker 1 (23:55):
It's gonna start at eight pm local London Times.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Awkward race car drivers.
Speaker 1 (24:00):
He sold out of course, it is Sadie Kate's is
out of luck unless Kates gets her immediate pass.
Speaker 2 (24:04):
A bunch of chicks trying to get himpregnated is.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Our Petrosten Bundy Sokal f one Report correspondent. She will
not be that close to the drivers. How can the
rest of us punters watch it? To send you an email?
Did you receive? That will not be necessary. TOTO will
be streamed live on the Formula one dot com. Think
of it as Dodger FanFest without vess. Beautiful, beautiful every
(24:33):
team on the grid, McLaren, Ferrari, Mercedes say all their names, Alpeen,
Red Bull, Aston Martin, the racing.
Speaker 2 (24:42):
Bulls, Stupid Name Kicks, Sober Stupid Name Has.
Speaker 1 (24:49):
Williams. They'll all participate, along with all twenty drivers and
ten team principles. It's gonna be great. That is your
refer report, Southern californ Thank you for It's not like
a super Bowl week or anything. Enjoy the super Bowl
this week.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yeah, wouldn't have known.
Speaker 1 (25:08):
You just did a story on it. We'll be right
back with David Vase Dodger Talk tonight at seven.
Speaker 2 (25:22):
Petro Some Money AM five seventy LA.
Speaker 1 (25:24):
Sports over there. You up bout enough time for this.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
Sake live everywhere on the iHeartRadio app. No, I'm not
gonna answer, going till seven pm, a full four hour
show as we make our way to Dodger Talk coming
up at seven pm.
Speaker 1 (25:39):
Spend a lot of time with the executives in the
last few hours, and it's almost like my mouth is
taking the shape at one of those sex balls. Like
it's like a real oh oh oh.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
They know what you're up to. You're free time, Like, hey,
you want to see a real pull smoker, Crack that
door open, have a couple of words with this guy.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
You're not gonna see a genuine Polsemoker like that in Vancouver,
all right, David vass Dodge with an inside look at
the Dodgers. This is the Vass Report with David vasse
pictures and catchers reporting on Monday. Officially the one and
only David Vasse Our hero leaving a week from Sunday
(26:30):
for Camelback Ranch. Who's back camble Back? And David Vasse,
our Dodger reporter, will also be going to Tokyo Dodger
Talk tonight at seven o'clock night? What kind of irons
are in the fire on your Southern California Toyota neither
celebrity hotline. David Vassa joins us and there'll be a
Dodger Talk on Monday too, bookend of the weekend, Dave,
what's cracking?
Speaker 4 (26:51):
Everything's great, guys. I could feel the smell of baseball
as things are starting to get busy around town. The
Dodger have a lot of players already a Camelback Ranch,
but pitchers and catchers officially reporting on Monday, and obviously
a lot more baseball talk here on Dodgers Radio and
(27:12):
next week on sports and at LA. And you know,
baseball really kicks off when you get a call on
speaker phone from Victor Brick and his beautiful bride, Yukosakamoto
quizzing me like I was on the witness stand like
Kato kalin about my trip to Japan.
Speaker 2 (27:29):
Somebody's watching the Netflix OJ special. I guess hence the
Kato Klein reference.
Speaker 1 (27:34):
You don't get a lot of Kato Kalen anymore, Dave.
Speaker 2 (27:37):
Well, then let's set it up and see if David
and Yuke's asked you this question. What players that we
don't know already should we kind of plant in the
back of our minds here as you arrived to Camelback
Ranch that we're going to want to keep our eyes
on this year at spring training.
Speaker 4 (27:54):
Well, I feel like the Dodgers have a lot of
attention on them, so there's really no surprise, is But
I will tell you this, Matt, as far as players
that need to have a good spring and leave a
good impression, as far as the young players go, and
number one Andy pas he ended the season really well.
He needs to show that he's not sulking because there
(28:17):
doesn't seem to be an obvious regular spot for him,
So the Dodgers want to see whether or not he's
taken the off season seriously to take the next step,
and Petros's guy, and John pappadecass guy, James Autman who
had a whole wh Yeah, he kind of hit the
(28:41):
tree a few different He needs to bounce back and
really prove something, and so does Bobby Miller. Those would
be the three guys that I'm looking for. And also,
you know, there's been so much talk about Dalton Rushing.
He's not going to be on the opening day roster
(29:02):
unless there's an injury to Will Smith or Austin Barnes.
But at some point this year I kind of see
that he could get his opportunities. So those would be
the guys that I feel like you want to keep
your eye on and see whether or not they can
make a big impression.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
David Vasse is our guest. Dave, what do you do
you make anything of? The Yankees say and the Dodger
people were talking trash, and then Aaron Boone, I mean,
I guess it was some guy with the Cubs who
didn't even play in the World Series Birdie talking about
the Dodgers. I mean, the Dodgers only talk bad about
Fat Joe. What's the deal? There are the Yankees, but.
Speaker 4 (29:37):
Hurt, no doubt, but hurt. And there was an obnoxious
New Yorker just interrupting in a conversation at school pickup yesterday,
and I had to put him in his place. I said, oh,
number one, my name's David. Nice to meet you. And
he's all, yeah, yeah, I know who you are. I said,
are you a Yankee fan. He's like, yeah, yeah, I'm
(29:58):
a Yankee fan. And he's out talking in the school
parking lot and I said, oh, that's really sad. I'm sorry, Hey, hey,
watch it, take it easy. I just locked away to
pick up my kids. Yeah, they are so butt hurt.
And the Dodgers never took shots at any Yankee player.
They didn't go after Rizzo and clown Rizzo for, you know,
(30:21):
just taking the ball to first base. They didn't clown
Garrett Cole for not covering first base. They didn't clown
Aaron Judge for clanking that fly ball in the center field.
They clowned Fat Joe. I mean, that was the narrative
at the parade. And John Birdie is so upset that
his team fell short in the fundamentals, and that's a fact. Jack.
(30:44):
That's not taking shots at anybody, And you know, I
just think that it's hilarious that three players that were
irrelevant in the World Series are kind of having this
cat fight. John Birdie, Joe Kelly, and Miguel Rojas all
irrelevant in the World Series.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
Wow, included your own guys.
Speaker 1 (31:05):
Hey, it's true. I mean, hey, Rojas was talking all
kinds of crap. It didn't even play.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
He looks so good in all that.
Speaker 4 (31:12):
Joe Kelly, Joe Kelly wasn't even active on the roster.
Speaker 2 (31:15):
Yeah, David was crazy out there at Camelback last year
because of the arrival of Sho Hail Tani. Do you
suspect it will be the same lower or higher level
of intensity from the fandom come Feb twenty when the
Dodgers and Cubs get things going at twelve oh five pm.
Speaker 4 (31:37):
Money people are expecting this to be levels of excitement
hysteria that we have never seen since Petros attended Taylor
Swift's concert at Sofi Stadium.
Speaker 2 (31:50):
I love that that the level you got the sweet
Megan markle arm in arms, right.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
But really, that's what it's going to be like traveling
with Otani. I know last year when we landed in
South Korea fans were lining the lobby of the airport
on the way to the tram the bus. I'm not sure,
I know Major League Baseball is already in contact with
you know, Japanese officials about whether or not they're going
(32:18):
to allow the media the fans to kind of be
able to do with the South Korean fans were able
to do last year in the airport because you know,
it's not just Otani, it's Yamamoto and Suzaki from the
Dodgers side of things, but obviously Otani is is the
guy that has his faith and likeness all over Tokyo.
(32:39):
So yeah, it's going to be wild, and every it
feels like there is a great anticipation about what it's going.
Speaker 1 (32:46):
To be, Like, how's happen? Phillips doing, Dave well.
Speaker 4 (32:51):
I applaud Evan Phillips in between his bromance with Taylor
Tanner Scott during our interview at Dodger Fest to be
very candid about the fact A if you guys recall
he wasn't on the World Series roster because he was
having some shoulder issues and those seem to have not
dissipated after the World Series because he told me don't
(33:13):
expect to see him throwing the hitters and being on
schedule like last spring. He's behind the schedule when it
comes to the throwing program, so the Dodgers are going
to be extra cautious with him. And it just goes
back to what we talked about as they were pursuing
Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates. It's not like, you know,
(33:36):
people look at their pitching and believe that they have
too much pitching. They may by June or July, but
on opening day they really don't. There's a lot of
guys that are dealing with some health questions that are
lingering from last year, including Evan Phillips, including Tyler Glass.
Now O'taani obviously is not going to start on opening
(33:57):
day as a pitcher, so they need guys like Bobby
Miller and Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May to help start
the season. And I think that's the reason why, you know,
people are really misleading you by making you think that
the Dodgers have too much pitching and they don't have
room for all these guys. They have plenty of room
(34:18):
and desperately need some of these guys at the beginning
of the year.
Speaker 2 (34:23):
So last thing, Dave, as we are, what a month
and about a week and a half away from those
two games in Tokyo. Are you brushing up on your Japanese? Like,
what's going what's going on?
Speaker 4 (34:37):
It was like a live Rosetta stone the other night.
You know, my wife's cooking dinner, the kids are trying
to do the homework, and I got Vic and Yuko
just grilling me, like I said, like, yeah, like I
was Mark Furman on on the witness stand, you.
Speaker 2 (34:52):
Know again, and that special is out in three parts to.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
The I am no stranger, but that doesn't mean the evidence.
Speaker 4 (34:59):
Rearrangem Well the firm in reference comes to being respectful.
Don't be a dirty American was the lesson I learned
from Vic the brick and Yuko, you know, have respect
for the land. And I feel like I'm a respectful
American here in Los Angeles.
Speaker 1 (35:15):
Sure.
Speaker 4 (35:16):
So you know, I was wondering where this phone call
came out of the blue, because you know, Petros called
me and was forcing his younger brother Dmitri down my throat.
And then now Vic and Yuco were calling me, and
then I had another major league scout of Japanese descent
that was offering me advice as well. I said, whoa, whoa,
(35:36):
pump the brakes here. I got too many people that
are so eager to tell me how much they know
about Japan.
Speaker 1 (35:43):
A lot of people, yes, Petros, A lot of people
bring it up stuff that never happened. Geese happened between us,
Dave real quick before we let you go, just for
your own validation. Why how come people keep talking about
Nolan Aronado to the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (35:59):
Yeah, I guess the Saint Louis Cardinals beat writer judge
this up again. It's because the Cardinals have no market
for Nolan Aernato. I guarantee you that Cardinals beat writer
got his information from somebody in the Cardinals organization that's
trying to drum up some sort of interest in Nolan.
And look, I'll talk about it on Dodger Talk tonight.
(36:22):
A lot of teams are going to be kicking themselves
for not trading for Nolan Aeronado because I have direct
knowledge that he has taken a no days off approach
this offseason. And whoever gets Nolan Aernado is going to
get a very determined and a chip on his shoulder
type of player that I expect to have a big year,
(36:43):
not in a Cardinals uniform.
Speaker 2 (36:45):
All right, Dave takes the angels out of the mix.
Speaker 1 (36:47):
Who's coming up? Who's coming up on Dodger Talk tonight? Anybody?
Or is it just you? Dave?
Speaker 4 (36:52):
Yeah, we got a lot. We got a lot. We
got NLCSMVP Tommy Edmund, and we got mister October in
his own right, Alex Vesia joining us. Who has the
one two e R in nineteen October appearances.
Speaker 2 (37:11):
A two guest show, Well, enjoy it.
Speaker 4 (37:14):
And uh, and we're going after that. We're going after
that Yankee fan. Oh, try to get simp.
Speaker 2 (37:19):
The one in the parking lot at your kids' school.
Speaker 4 (37:21):
Oh yeah, we're going after that guy.
Speaker 1 (37:23):
And then the one that the one that pried the
ball out of Mookie BET's hand. All of them, Okay,
all of them. David Vasse Tonight and Monday Night with
Dodger Talk. Dave, we love you, I have a good one.
We'll be right back. We got a whole other hour
of great sports Talk. Finally, Great Sports Talk, Quick Kids
tend in a live guy Birthday other Day, and then
Dodger Talk with David Vasse, Tommy Edmund will join it.
