Matt money Smith.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
It is better to be hated for what you are
than to be loved for what you are.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Not bung me you petros in Money, super short show,
less than an hour, like forty minutes. We'll be off
at about fifty five for Clipper basketball.
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Oh, the latch has been scrubbed. We were gonna launch
because he was ready. Colin Yee was gonna give it
a shot like he did the other day with two
Edemano Tuesday, and they scrubbed the launch. It got scratched.
Speaker 4 (01:10):
Terrible fog, terrible, too much wind, an issue with some
of the ceilings and.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
Mostly you know, Bobby Miller, the poor guy. And we'll
get the latest on that right now because David Vassa
no postgame in the spring training world. But today, Matt,
we can all agree was an exciting day of Campbelback.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Ranch, no doubt, a long affair. As a matter of fact,
tens us getting started a little bit late here three
point fifteen over a two hour contest. Yamamoto gets out
there to get the start. It gives up a couple
of hits, but able to get out of the mix there.
And like you said, certainly the most meaningful moment when
Bobby Miller took a one hundred and six mile an
(01:52):
hour comebacker off of his right temple. Very scary moment,
but able to walk off to the club house under
his own power. Some of the cooler stuff we saw was,
I'll be honest, Pee, it was the flashing of the
leather out there from Mookie Betts and High Song Kim
flashing that leather in the middle infield.
Speaker 2 (02:10):
Well, let's see if David grees fly from the spring training.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
The home of the Dodge off with an inside look
at the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (02:21):
This is the Vassie Report with David Vasse.
Speaker 3 (02:24):
David Vasse our man on the scene and quite simply
the best baseball reporter embedded with any team anywhere in
the world. And he works for a five seventy LA
Sports with the Dodgers Spring training first game today. Like
we said, he's on the Southern California Toyota Dealer Celebrity Hotline.
You should follow him on Instagram or Twitter, especially this
(02:45):
time of year, for the access that it brings you. Dave,
how is Bobby Miller. It seemed like he got hit
on his.
Speaker 5 (02:52):
Forehead, Yeah, right above his right eye and his right forehead,
and there was no deflection of the glove or the hat.
It hit him flush. By all accounts from Dave Roberts,
who I just finished talking to, and his catcher, Hunter Fiduccia,
who unfortunately saw it all unfold in front of his eyes,
(03:14):
starting with you know, and Michael Bush's first at bat,
he got a hit off of Bobby's curveball, and it
looked like Bobby Miller shook off a fastball from Fiducca
to go to a curveball again, and Bush obviously was
sitting on it, and you hit it right on the
square and unfortunately right at Bobby's right forehead. I talked
(03:36):
to Michael Bush when he came.
Speaker 6 (03:37):
Out of the game.
Speaker 5 (03:38):
He was really concerned about Bobby because they were teammates
in the minor leagues coming up, and Hunter Fiducca had
a chance to talk to him as well. All three
of those guys came up together, and here's what he saw,
especially when Bobby was on the ground with the trainers
and Dave Roberts trying to see whether or not he
was okay to get up under his own power.
Speaker 7 (04:00):
So he was kind of, you know, Samuel was going
on making sure, you know, he was all there in
the head, you know, just kind of going through the moment,
thinking back of like what pitch he was on, just
to make sure, you know he's all there. And you know,
he answered every question question right, you know, he was
you know, it seemed like he was doing fine. And
you know, he got up walked off by himself. So
(04:22):
it seemed like it squared him up. I mean, obviously
it could have been way worse, you know, a little
lower on the face or i it could have been
really bad. But you know, I think it caught him
a little on top of the head. It definitely squared
him up, you know, like they got all of it. So, yeah,
(04:42):
just a scary situation, and I hope he's doing okay
right now.
Speaker 5 (04:47):
We never saw Bobby Miller emerge into the clubhouse during
spring training. Guys where a lot in the clubhouse in
the middle of games when players come out. But Bobby
was still behind closed doors in the concussion protocol room.
And I saw his girlfriend just about two minutes ago
be taken back there to check on him. So fingers
(05:08):
crossed that he get he's able to to not have
a rough next twenty four hours, because, as you guys know,
if you have a concussion, those are the most tenuous time.
Speaker 3 (05:19):
And dizzy sleep, trouble, headaches, all that stuff.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
Dave you here the heaviness in the voice there with
the answer, you know, it happens one you know, two
batters into the third inning. Did it just kind of
hang over the game the rest of the way.
Speaker 5 (05:35):
Yeah, that was the story of the game. Obviously, nobody
wants to see that. You don't see that every day,
and you're kind of defenseless when the ball's coming at
you one hundred and six miles an hour the way
it came off the bat of Michael Bush. But yeah,
that was the story of the day. Everything else. You know,
it's the first spring training game. Nobody's gonna overreact to
(05:55):
a Yama Moto start or a good or bad play
in the field. But I know Dave Roberts echoed what
you guys mentioned that Mookie looked really comfortable at shortstop,
which was a good sign. But yeah, this is a
tough one because Bobby's trying to fight for a possible
funnel spot in this rotation. This obviously sets him back
(06:16):
in that in that department right now for the foreseeable future.
Speaker 3 (06:21):
What was there any judgment on Yamamoto that you could
see that was consensus or was you know, the first
spring training game. What can you say? He got out
there and stretched out his arm.
Speaker 5 (06:32):
Dave Roberts said he liked the second inning more than
the first inning. So he also said that was a
great sign that he was able to be economic in
the first inning to allow himself to be able to
get back out there, so that that was a good sign.
And we're going to see how all this unfolds after
(06:52):
Yamamoto and Blake Snell, because there are a lot of
guys that are trying to, you know, show out for
that sixth or fifth spot in the rotation.
Speaker 4 (07:01):
How about the infield there, Dave, you saw Mookie say
out for a while a couple couple maybe extra innings
than some of the other guys, just to kind of
get that work at shortstop. What did you see? What
did you hear?
Speaker 5 (07:11):
A Mookie's going to be back in there tomorrow, Dave
Roberts said this morning. Though, don't expect to see Mooki
play more this spring than last year just because it's shortstopped.
He doesn't feel like it's worth you know, an extra
five or six innings to get more reps at shortstop.
So yes, he's going to play back to back, but
don't expect to see him play, you know, every game
(07:35):
and six plus innings every game out here in Arizona.
That's just not going to happen.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
So fifty five guys played today for the Dodgers. I think, Dave,
that I'm sure will continue. Do you ignore a thirty
five fifty of these guys?
Speaker 5 (07:57):
You know, I wanted to see more of the young
because they're so promising. He hears so much about him,
including Josewa to Paula, who you know. I remember Mike
Soosha seeing him on the backfields two or three years ago.
He didn't know his name, but he said that guy's
gonna be good, and it's turned out to be jose
Wa to Paula, So I was interested in seeing him.
(08:18):
Zayer Hope, I've been told as an interesting player in camp.
He got in after the regulars, came out to play
left field and made a nice diving catch. He was
part of the Michael Bush trade that got the Dodgers
Jackson Farris and Zayer Hope. So he's an interesting player.
And there are a lot of those younger guys that
are interesting, including Alex Friedland. You know, Bob Garan, Dave
(08:40):
Roberts bench coach. He was. He was back in camp
and I'm not sure if you guys know who was
asking about him earlier today. Do you have any guests?
Speaker 4 (08:50):
No guests from me?
Speaker 5 (08:52):
Absolutely? Nobody?
Speaker 3 (08:54):
Oh singer?
Speaker 4 (08:58):
Last one from me?
Speaker 3 (08:59):
Dan?
Speaker 6 (09:01):
What do we? Uh?
Speaker 4 (09:02):
What do we look?
Speaker 3 (09:03):
Was cast over the game? What what's that about? Right?
Speaker 5 (09:10):
Bob came back, he said, you know who's saying they
love our show? Nobody?
Speaker 3 (09:14):
Nah? Uh?
Speaker 4 (09:16):
You know what, We'll leave it at that day.
Speaker 5 (09:17):
Boomer, that's Boomer humor right there.
Speaker 4 (09:20):
Oh, we will leave it there, Go ahead, go ahead, Matt,
I have nothing that important. I was gonna ask you
what we need to keep an eye on for tomorrow?
Speaker 3 (09:28):
But whatever, What do we need to keep an eye
on for tomorrow? Dave? What's our eye on?
Speaker 5 (09:31):
L A like Chuck Henry, Tony Gonsolin is going to
pitch tomorrow, so it'll be interesting to see the catman
on the mound for the first time this spring after
missing all of last year with Tommy John surgery. Uh,
he has a very good chance of being in the
opening day rotation, So let's see what he's got in
Landon Neck, who has lost a tremendous amount of weight,
(09:54):
is going to pitch after him tomorrow, so we'll see
what both those guys got against the Cubs again, but
this time at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
I'm sliding one more quickie in Dave before I drop
you off at the airport here. What about the robot ops?
Did you feel their presence?
Speaker 5 (10:13):
Yeah? How about that Max Munsey who was told by
Freddie Freeman he was not allowed to challenge any of
these balls? Or strikes. Today in the team meeting was
actually the recipient of an overturned call for the first
time in all of spring training. It was the Monthies
first at bat where it was called a ball initially,
(10:35):
and then the pitcher tassed his head to appeal and
it was overturned. It got the bottom part of the
strike zone and it was called the strike. So instead
of being one to one, Monthsy was down oh two
and eventually struck out. But he had good humor about
it and actually said that he's very intrigued by this
whole system of being able to appeal with the automated
(10:57):
strike zone. So it's going to be tested out in
the spring games in certain ballparks in Arizona and Florida,
and it's not going to be implemented in twenty twenty
five at any point. But if rob Manfred in the
league gets buying from the players, then all of a sudden,
you may see it in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 4 (11:17):
Did they make the robots available after the game?
Speaker 2 (11:20):
Oh goodness, they did not.
Speaker 5 (11:22):
Okay, maybe months, He said, it doesn't slow down the game.
He actually experienced it in his rehab assignment last year
in Oklahoma City and he said, it doesn't slow the
game down, so the players are not completely opposed to it,
but it's going to take complete buy in for the
league to be able to implement this in twenty twenty six.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
All right, Dave, thank you for the great work today,
and we'll talk to you tomorrow and enjoy spring training
in Arizona. Seems like an exciting time. We hope Bobby
Miller's okay.
Speaker 5 (11:55):
Thank you, guys. We'll get more on Bobby tomorrow and
let you.
Speaker 3 (11:57):
Know, hope you say that. I mean, the launch got scrubbed,
but I felt like that was some pretty good Dodger information.
Speaker 4 (12:04):
It's fantastic. You got audio. You got grab ass with
Bob garn.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
A little just right outside Dave Roberts off of Scena there.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Right, Just talk to Dave. Here's what he said, listen to.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
We're right on it, man, and it's a real deal.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
All over it. Some bitch.
Speaker 3 (12:26):
Well, we hope everybody's okay, some bitch, and we hope
that uh, Bobby Miller wakes up and feels okay in
the morning, and uh, you know, his thick skull protected
his brain and he can get back on the mound
as soon as possible, so he can battle for that
spot in the rotation. Like Dave was talking about, we'll
get your word and number and song of the day
(12:49):
and then we'll do Dead and Alive and then it's
good night, Irene.
Speaker 2 (12:57):
Big thank you to Dave.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Just finish.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Dodger Baseball got us all the news surrounding Bobby Miller
taking a one hundred and six mile an hour line
drive to the head. Tomorrow, first pitch, twelve oh five pm.
Right here on AM five seventy Dodgers Cubs again, spring training.
We're going to the top of the hour. Adam Auslin
pregame for Clippers Bucks tipping off at five.
Speaker 3 (13:20):
Well, it is time for a little more contract.
Speaker 2 (13:22):
I mean his words. The word of the.
Speaker 3 (13:26):
Day, all right, matt usc football is today's word of
the day. They've canceled their Spring showcase or whatever it
is now synchronized swimming, and they said they're going to
do an event that brings together former players. But I
don't think i'd be invited to that because I'm media,
(13:48):
so I don't know. I don't think it matters anymore.
The PAC twelve required you do something for the spring
that they could televise on their network, the Big Ten.
I don't think does joining Tech, Nebraska and Florida State.
In canceling their spring game, Steve Sarkisi incided whear and
tear and that they played a lot of games, and
(14:13):
the reality is that the transfer portal window opens April
sixteenth to the twenty fifth, the second window. So if
people see a young guy or an unknown or a
young unknown guy who balls out because the games are
widely distributed, you can get poached like an elephant in sair. Hell.
(14:38):
That'd be terrible that player gets snatched up by some
other team and you get poached because you aired your
spring game and tried to act hard. Nobody wants anybody
to see anything anymore. Everything's closed because of the portal
is wide ass them so interesting news about college football,
(14:58):
but it is whatever any he says, it is a
transfer portal issue. Back in the day, you had your
spring game because it was good in the middle of
the nothing type of season to run out there with
a running clock and get the playoff in time and
all of those things and have like a game environment
with the crowd reacting to what was happening out there.
(15:19):
And they're not going to do it anymore because of
the ever changing landscape of this morning.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
Bs Man time for the number of the day.
Speaker 2 (15:27):
Here's my number. Number of the day.
Speaker 4 (15:30):
Number of the day is two misshots. Now in Lebron
James defense, he was six of eight for fourteen points
in helping the Lakers dig out from a hole against
the miserable Charlotte Hornet. So he played well on the
fourth quarter. However, when it came time to draw up
that play, decide who was going to take the shot
down two for a one point win. Here's how it win,
(15:54):
James Watson.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
Oh, no shit, it's.
Speaker 2 (16:06):
Your Charlotte Hornet.
Speaker 3 (16:09):
Win here in La.
Speaker 4 (16:12):
That's a Hornets call.
Speaker 3 (16:14):
For real.
Speaker 4 (16:15):
It's very excited.
Speaker 2 (16:19):
Your Charlotte Horns win.
Speaker 5 (16:22):
Here in La.
Speaker 4 (16:25):
So Lebron misses. And then in the post game, Austin
Reeves was ejected. So first questions presented to Lebron wh
wide Reeves get kicked out? How pissed off are you
about that? Blah blah? And then finally we get the
question that everybody wants to know, how's this late game
think going to be working moving forward?
Speaker 5 (16:43):
When you come to a late game situation, if you
had tonight the first time you and look I've been
in the situation.
Speaker 6 (16:49):
Is it unspoken? Like how you guys feeling it out?
You run a set of the coaches, uh, JJ draws
up and you executed it to and we executed it.
We just didn't make here.
Speaker 4 (17:03):
We executed it. We just didn't make it.
Speaker 6 (17:06):
When you executed it to, then we executed it. We
just didn't make you.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
There's no WI in shooting the ball like you shoot
the ball.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
Then we executed. We just didn't make here.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
So it's we executed the play. I didn't make it.
Speaker 6 (17:22):
Then we executed. We just didn't make here.
Speaker 4 (17:24):
For It's it's truly like you know, there's no I
in team, but in this particular case, only one person
can take a shot unless somehow you both get a
hand on it. I'm like a tip in and then
you execute the shot again.
Speaker 3 (17:37):
Like if somebody else was answering the question, they might say.
Speaker 4 (17:39):
Then we executed it. We just didn't make he I
didn't make it. I was It was well drawn up
by JJ. Luca got the ball and bounced, Gabe got
me the the offensive rebound back and I missed the shot.
But then we got a good look, got a good look.
Play was drawn up. Well, kudos to JJ. I just
got to make that shot next time. So how about this?
(18:05):
He misses those two? And because Lucas on the team,
This is the first time I remember seeing this. Stad
maybe you have, but uh Lebron is currently writing an
over on game tying or game winning shots with five
seconds or less left in a game. Oh for twenty one.
Speaker 3 (18:22):
I saw that on x oh out they pounced like
a tiger right after the airs.
Speaker 4 (18:28):
I mean zero for twenty one since twenty twenty and
since he has been a Laker home of Mister Clutch
Jerry West and Kobe Bryant, well known for his late
game dramatics and clutch shots, he has won for twenty
nine since signing with the Lakers in game tying or
(18:50):
game winning shots in the final five seconds of games
one for twenty nine and zero of his last one.
Speaker 3 (19:00):
Are you suggesting it should be?
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Luka doncic I just said, we executed it, but you
didn't make it. You you are zero for your last
twenty one last five minutes. Yeah, we there is no we,
you know, for the king, there is no we in brick,
(19:26):
There is no we in short again, six of eight,
fourteen points fourth quarter. He's the hot hands, so he
was six going into that. He was six of eight
for fourteen points. Then he missed those two. But there
is no wi. I didn't make it. We executed it.
I didn't make it.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
This is troubling, isn't it. Luka Donco needs the ball,
and I mean, I know he got hot there, but
they didn't win. I mean, all I remember from the
game is LaMelo ball going by Luca Donchez and the
crowd was so quiet. He screamed the N word so audibly.
Speaker 4 (20:07):
LaMelo ball did not Luca No, Yeah, LaMelo yeah. Yeah.
Make sure we clarify that.
Speaker 2 (20:16):
This is the song of the day.
Speaker 3 (20:19):
Yeah, I mean it was picked up by the Mike.
Speaker 8 (20:23):
Today's song of the day is called Spaced Cowboy off
the nineteen seventy one record. There's a riot going on
from slying the family Stone, a soulful groove with plenty
of crunch for a Thursday afternoon as the Petros and
Money Show is space between spring training Dodger baseball and
Clippers basketball, who opened the second half of the season
(20:43):
with the Milwaukee Bucks at five Serve Forum, and our
friend Adam Oslin, who was just here in the studio
chopping it up with Tim and I is down the
hall ready to take over with your Clippers countdown show
at the top of the hour, Beautiful Ronnie, take.
Speaker 3 (20:58):
You well more on the Lakers tomorrow, right, Matt, I
mean we got a four.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
Out Heck yeah, they're playing the Blazers tonight. Then luculd
take that shot Lebron and maybe come back. We'll make it.
Speaker 3 (21:18):
We got dead in a lot now. Exciting Clipper basketball
headed your way. Next, the Dodgers went down. The Panic
(21:39):
Brothers are holding off for a couple more days. But
Dodgers went down to the Cubs an exciting spring training game,
our debut. I feel as if we covered it all right,
it's time for the dead guy. Birthday of the Day,
well happy.
Speaker 4 (21:51):
It would have been two hundred and ninety ninth to
the namesake of Prescott, Arizona Revolutionary War hero William Prescott
born in Groton, Massachusetts, lived in Pepperrell, Massachusetts, on what
is now named Prescott Street. He got the farman, he
made money, got married. He joined the provincial militia during
King George's War in seventeen forty five. At nineteen, wasn't
(22:13):
married yet. During the French and Indian War. Acclaimed for
his leadership of Allied American forces in the Battle of
Fort Buseijore, and was offered a British Army's Officers commission
for his service. But married children, Farman said, I'm good
going home to be with a lady. Raised them kids
(22:34):
ten to my farm. So seventeen seventy four, Prescott's appointed
colonel of a regiment of minute men, and he hears
the British have attacked Lexington. April seventeen seventy five, alarm
is raised that British troops are marching on Concord and
he would become part of the army that laid siege
to Boston. Afterward, when he was alerted that they wanted
to capture the undefended high ground at Dorchester Heights and
(22:56):
Charles Town, he was chosen to lead twelve on dred
men to the peninsula and erect defenses on Bunker Hill.
Under his command, they proceeded to Bunker Hill, erected a fortification,
and they got after it. They wore freaking cannonballs to
the chest. The Americans, although raw troops, fought with bravery
(23:17):
until their ammunition was exhausted, and Prescott was always confident
that he could have maintained his position even with just
a few men under him had he been spot He
in a very angry state, told General artemas Ward that
they would retake the place that night or perish in
the attempt. He just needed three regiments with bayonets and
sufficient ammunition. This time he was declined. The British would
(23:41):
capture Bunker Hill, but his poorly organized colonial force inflicted
significant casualties. They lost fifty percent of their force.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
Beating out mister irrelevant Jerkson Profar and also beating out
Lily Taylor. Though I will bend the rules a little
bit because Kate's tried to do it the other day
with a guy that was in flipper. It is Lily
Taylor's birthday. Before we move on, I wanted to play
this for you, Matt jun.
Speaker 9 (24:12):
Julius Jelus.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Now we are British News.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
Matt, it's time for PMS, British News, United Kingdom, English News.
Speaker 3 (24:34):
It's time for British News. Cheerio's up straight gets out.

know about it, very well versed with all the blokes
and lasses. You don't even know Petterson Money Show knows
all about it. Tony went to the London Academy of

Musical and Dramatic Arts. He was a back vocalist for
the band Red Boy or excuse me, Red Box that
made himself, made himself known as the man in some
very popular Nest Cafe couple commercials, and then he was
(25:16):
a big rocky horror picture show performer. Guy with a
young Craig Ferguson. How did he make his name after
Nest Cafe? Well here in the States by playing Rupert
Giles and Buffy the Vampire Slayer back in the nineties,
So okay. He was over at Torrents High banging it
(25:39):
out with Sarah Michelle Geller in the Light, did a
lot of BBC stuff too, Like Doctor Who, he works
a lot. He lives in Bath with his wife. I
don't I don't think she's the actual wife of Bath.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
Kind of cool as she was, right, but.
Speaker 3 (25:58):

daughters and they are both mos fomoso actresses in Britain.
