the voice of the Bolts, Matt Smith be setting up
the Petrosen money listener for what Fantasy League. The single
F one Fantasy League supported by listeners of the only
(02:46):
Formula One Report on terrestrial radio in the United States.
And yes, thank you. And while we fully expect to
see Team Basset is a civic failure compete again this season,
please try to keep your team names somewhat tasteful.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
Well any have similar themes?
Speaker 3 (03:07):
Right update on the status matter, You're going to.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
I am at F one dot com right now in
the fantasy tab. It's always kind of hard to set
it up. It takes me a minute because I'm old
and technologically challenged.
Speaker 4 (03:20):
You have a little time, but I will.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
Yeah, we got a less than a well less than
a week, but we'll get it done before we need
to get it done for sure.
Speaker 3 (03:27):
The second item that needs to be addressed concerns the
influx of six new drivers to the F one lineup
this season, including four who will be making their first
appearance ever in a Formula one machine. As you know,
we at the Petros and Money SoCal F one Report
don't just focus on the racing. We offer a full
spectrum of coverage away from the circuit as well. A
(03:49):
key component to that involves the wags, the wives and
girlfriends with these guys traveling the world every week. You
know it's hard to meet people, hard to find companionship, Matt.
And on that note, we'll get you caught up on
the new drivers with a jog through the wag paddock. Okay,
if you will. We began with some of the simple relationships. First,
(04:17):
Matt's favorite team, the Racing.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
Bulls, about the third name in five years. I feel
like we've got here. Yes, from the Racing Bulls.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
Twenty year old French Albanian Isaac Hajar, who will be
paired with Yuki Sonoda, forming the most foul mouthed combo
on the circuit. Isaac, like his Japanese teammate, is currently single.
So both Racing Bulls drivers will be seeking love and
a connection on the road this season, and we'll keep
(04:50):
our listeners posted there.
Speaker 2 (04:52):
I just hope while he's driving his door isn't Hajar
sah yah.
Speaker 3 (04:59):
I thought they climb did through the top there are
no doors, But I still have a great joke, right, yes,
thank you? I hope in returns. As the season continued,
the single man will not be the case for Red
Bull driver Liam Lawson and al Pen's Jack Douhan Doohan
(05:23):
Losson is currently dating Hannah Saint John, a twenty one
year old graduate of Corona del Mar High Go see Kings.
She just recently earned a degree in biomedical sciences from
that think tank and Tempe Arizona State University. The blonde
co ed is active on Instagram with over thirty thousand followers,
(05:44):
regularly sharing updates from her personal life. She has not
been seen in the paddock frequently, as somebody with college
degrees knows, Matt biomedical science classes are all encompassing, although
she did travel with Liam last year to Austin and
Mexico City.
Speaker 2 (06:03):
How the hell did how the hell did she meet?
Isn't he He's a Kiwi right?
Speaker 3 (06:09):
Yeah, but she's hot and hotness knows no border.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
That's true. Yes, all you had to do is be
hot and run into him at a party somewhere.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
Her American influence has been felt on the young Kiwi
driver because of his relationship with Hannah, Lawson has now
grown in affinity for the NFL, country music and in
and Out Burger, not necessarily in that order. All he
needs is an AR fifteen and a few trips to
Don Cuco's and Tim Kates will invite this guy over.
(06:40):
No word yet if the young couple's plans include a
spring break, house boat excursion to Bullhead City in true
ASU fashion, come on, twenty two year old Ausie Jack Doohan.
Speaker 4 (06:56):
Oh yeah, here she is in a baby sit. Okay,
now I get it.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
We'll be making his debut at his home Grand Prix
for ALP next week. Duhan is in a relationship with
Ebony Zippora Gold. This couple keeps their relationship very private. Yeah,
I have a problem with you don't tell me to
the vote, and Kimmy does have a point there. Post
(07:22):
on the driver's Instagram indicate that they have been together
for about five years. Her account is private, but also
says she's an Australian and currently lives in Monaco. And
like Hannah Saint John, you know Tempe, Monacole, very similar.
Speaker 4 (07:41):
Experience, very similar, very very well.
Speaker 3 (07:44):
Keep our eyes open for her in the panic. She's
a mysterious woman. Next weekend at Alberta Parker. The youngest
driver in Formula One is Mercedes Kimi Antonelli. The Italian
teenager has been dating Eliska baba Kova, a nineteen year
old karting champion from Czechoslovakia or the Czech Republic. I
(08:05):
guess you'd call it now. Baba Kova comes from a
racing family. Her two sisters and brother are also karting drivers.
She attended the F one seventy five Live event with
Kimmy a couple weeks back, and they've been together for
a year. Baba Kova, who goes by Ellie, is active
on the Instagram with forty eight thousand followers, as well
(08:29):
as sharing a YouTube account with her sisters, mainly focusing
on fashion. She recently attended a summer session at Stanford
this last year after competing in the FIA Karting World
Championships in matt You know, of course, that is the
premiere class of karting for the fors Of Racing team.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Not even close.
Speaker 3 (08:52):
Now back, two drivers dating.
Speaker 4 (08:55):
The last time that drivers are dating each other.
Speaker 3 (09:00):
This is a driver dating a cart racer. It's a
man and a woman. Oh oh, I thought, I don't believe. No,
I don't think you did.
Speaker 4 (09:07):
That's right, go ahead.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
The last time two drivers dated that could have a
kid was when Josper Stopping married karting champion Sophie Kuppman.
The result was the lustful Dutch prince and current four
time world champion Max for stopping beautiful Beautiful Saber finally
(09:31):
settled on twenty year old Brazilian Gabrielle Porto Lepo for
their open seat in twenty twenty five, UH, the twenty
twenty four F two champion, has been in a relationship
with a woman named Isabella Bernardini, a twenty year old.
Speaker 4 (09:48):
Flat chested giant asked Brazilian.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
Yes, she's studied computer science in Einhoven, Netherlands, go Eagles.
Lots of students in this crop of wags matently supermodels
and influencers are out in twenty twenty five. Bernardini is
on social media, but keeps her account very private because
of her flat chest and giant ass.
Speaker 4 (10:10):
Little is her own children, right like all these new
drivers are freaky.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
They're young. Little is known about her personal life. She
has over two thousand followers on Instagram, and even her
boyfriend Gabrielle really rarely posts about her. However, now that
Bordoleto will be part of the grid, it is expected
that Bernardini, like others close to him, will make more
appearances in the F one paddock. Now all the F
(10:36):
one wag sites will be on a lookout for her.
But finally Matt Allie Berman, the nineteen year old britt Yes,
this is complicated. He'll be driving for HAS this season.
No one loves wags more than the British tabloids. Matt,
they had wag Ata Christie. They ain't like the so
calf one report are your home for f one wag
(10:59):
news and it's not even close.
Speaker 4 (11:01):
Not close.
Speaker 3 (11:04):
No one can be more in the spotlight than a
rookie British Formula one driver like Oli Berman. He was
in a relationship with twenty four year old Estelle Ogilvi,
a law student, model and influencer. Don't see a lot
of those unless you're Sweet James. Older woman Letty as
she is known among friends, and Beerman got together after
she broke up with Argentine driver Argentine driver Franco Cola Pinto,
(11:28):
but the relationship appears to be over amid rumors that
Beerman cheated at a party he attended with fellow racer
Arthur Leclaire, breaking her silence on the matter. On TikTok,
Ogilvy made an emotional appeal asking fans to stop tagging
her in videos and pictures, presumably involving Bierman's new relationship
(11:50):
or referencing their past. Bierman is now rumored to be
dating Alicia Torriani, who lives in Monaco and keeps a
very private online presence. Alicia is connected to the F
one community. She's followed by Charlie Clair and his girlfriend
Alexandra Mux and other close friends of Little Claire family.
(12:11):
You want to guess who Wali hooked up with at
that party with Arthur Leclair.
Speaker 4 (12:16):
Wanda Sykes?
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Do you want to guess again? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (12:26):
Yeah, Lewis Hamilton because I want to turn it up.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
No, he did not turn the magic off that night, Matt.
But don't cry for Letty Argentina. The Argentinian Cola Pinto,
who will be a reserve driver for Alpine this season,
put on his cape and he and Letty are apparently
now back together.
Speaker 4 (12:46):
Okay.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
Ogilvie Re followed Franco on Instagram, sparking rumors that the
relationship has been rekindled as she continues her jets settling
modeling lifestyle, recently walking for Designers and Paris for Fashion
Week and hanging out with her best pal, model India Rosbourne. Ollie,
now concentrating on his career. The Essex Borne racer, who
(13:12):
has admitted his long term ambition is to win a
seat in a Ferrari, will be the second youngest driver
to your point, Matt, next to Kimi Antonelli. We at
the socalf one Report applaud the young brit for choosing
a proper route on the wag front, going with the
supermodel in true Formula one.
Speaker 4 (13:30):
Fashion legend the legend.
Speaker 3 (13:33):
So that's it. You're caught up. People are talking preseason testing,
rookie drivers, new wag lineup, change, The F one season
kicks off a week from today Albert Park in Melbourne.
Speaker 2 (13:50):
Who cares about Australia kicking off the season? Get the
wag squared away?
Speaker 4 (13:54):
Man?
Speaker 3 (13:54):
Well, I mean you know, first things first? Absolutely, Canlando
on the papayas continue there, hold on the constructors championship?
Can Sir Lewis alright, Hamilton who is not dating another driver,
get his eighth driving championship and bring Ferrari there first.
Since twenty oh seven, we think we have all the answers.
Speaker 2 (14:18):
Harlow signs get to the top of a peg board
if he were challenged, Oh.
Speaker 3 (14:23):
Without a doubt, Matt has the Petroson money for what
Fantasy league up and running at some point, and you
can go on the Formula one dot com and get
your teams loaded up. Take a swipe at Vassa or Kate's.
But be kind. We know doesn't matter who you are,
it's all the same. And that is your f one report.
(14:46):
Southern California. Oh, let it ride out, Come on, Roddy
be a sport. This is the song it's gonna play
when Matt and Don McLain are jogging down the streets
and the rain sweat street in Indianapolis today. Yeah, louden,
(15:08):
come on, loudon, come on man, come on, turn it out,
come on. Thanks for listening, everybody. We'll be right back
with Don McClain.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Petro said Monday AM, five seventy LA Sports. We're live
everywhere the iHeartRadio app your home of the World Series
champion Dodgers. Next spring training game will be Sunday, a
one o'clock not a nooner, but a one o'clock first
pitch against the Sacramento As. Will be that contest tonight,
though we're going to basketball six thirty PM. Adam Awson
will have pre seven thirty pm tip. Nicks knocked off
(15:50):
by the Lakers last night in overtime. The Clippers get
them on the second of a back to back tonight,
and again that is a seven thirty pm tip.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Matt joining us right now, the centerpiece of the show today,
on the cusp of the Big Ten Tournament. He'll be
headed eastward, much like you, Tim Kats. Will also be
working left alone like a dog shut in the house
that the neighbor has to check on. This met his
(16:25):
statue in Levin Park.
Speaker 4 (16:27):
I see him through the window. He's not moved.
Speaker 3 (16:33):
Like Gene Hackman.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Sounds like Gene Hackman's lifeless body.
Speaker 3 (16:41):
The one and only Don McLean. He's the leading scorer
in the history of the Fact twelve. He works at
the Big Ten Network, and he's gonna be all over
the tournament. NBA veteran and award winner and truly our
conduit to the closest we can get to the truth
(17:02):
a modern day basketball in Seattle tomorrow, Don mclaan on
your Southern California, tell you to dealer celebrity. Hello, Don.
Speaker 6 (17:14):
Yep, he one last trip to Seattle tomorrow for an
early Sunday game, and then they're finally going to let
me come to the Midwest to do the Big ten Tournament,
which I'm looking forward to, should be. I made fun
of myself the other night on the air the SC
Washington game that, you know, the cliches that start coming
out this time of year. If the Big ten tournament's
(17:35):
anything like the regular season, we're in for a treat.
Speaker 4 (17:40):
You got that one nailed. They're done.
Speaker 3 (17:43):
That's very strong.
Speaker 6 (17:45):
Yeah, yeah, I thought so.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
You watched the PAC twelve tournament kind of grow from
the empty corridors of the Staples Center to an actual
attraction in Las Vegas, including your pool party at the MGM,
which was a big success. What are you anticipating is
different for you because you know a lot of this
year what we've talked about has been the difference for
(18:09):
all these schools and you making this transition, and you've
been a great source of information in that way.
Speaker 6 (18:15):
Well, it's interesting, Pete, like telling that story of the
PAC ten transitioning to the PAC twelve and for the
first couple of years of the PAC twelve, or the
first year of the PAC twelve tournament when it went
to Vegas, just the difference. And I've told Big ten
people that that they didn't really know that or had
forgotten it or whatever that that you know, you put
(18:36):
anything in Vegas, people are going to come. And it
was noticeable from La to Vegas in the PAC twelve
and the Big Ten Tournament, believe it or not, in
two years is in Vegas. So next year it's in Chicago.
So I've heard, and Matt, I know you've been there
a bunch that it's a pretty big deal and it's
a spectacle. And you know, I've said that all year
(18:58):
in getting to know this league, that the Big Ten
is just bigger than what the Pac twelve ever was.
It's just bigger, and I'm assuming it's going to be
the same for the Big Ten Tournament.
Speaker 4 (19:08):
Yeah, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (19:09):
It's they travel, and I think a lot of that
Don obviously, as you have the close proximity to Indianapolis,
where you know U of I, Iowa, Indiana, Perdue, Ohio State,
they can all get down there and they do and
it's a lot of fun and there's a ton of
energy in Gainbridge in Indianapolis when they do it. As
far as the games go, Don, Like you know, Tim
(19:31):
and I have been doing this for a long time.
Speaker 4 (19:32):
We've seen.
Speaker 2 (19:33):
I think Michigan was an eight seed when they won
it a couple of years ago. Iowa was maybe a
five or a six. Do you see that possibility this year?
Is a five or a six seed? Whatever UCLA ends up,
is there a path for them to win this tournament?
You know? Can you make a convincing case that yeah,
I can see how that might play out for them.
Speaker 6 (19:53):
One hundred percent. Like Michigan State won the regular season,
but they were picked fifth before the season, and I
don't think at any point, and this is no disrespect
tom Izzo's gonna be Big Ten Coach of the Year.
This is no disrespect to them. But watching them, I'm
not saying, oh, yeah, that's the best team in the league.
But they were because they won the most games and
(20:13):
they finished with the best record. My point is that
there is such a cluster of teams one through really,
I mean twelve thirteen, that you can make a case
that they could make a run. Now, I don't think
that's going to happen someone coming from that deep. But
to answer your question, Matt, like it seemed coming from four, five, six, seven,
I could I could absolutely see that happening.
Speaker 2 (20:36):
I know a lot of times when we ask you,
don you say, well, it's you know, it's it's the path,
it's it's it's matchups. Is is there just like in
your opinion, is there a bad matchup for UCLA? Is
there one or two teams that they just don't match
up with all that?
Speaker 6 (20:52):
Well, well, it's funny you asked that, because I was
thinking about this the other day, like, they're not a
good matchup with Michigan State and beat him.
Speaker 1 (21:01):
So I think that's kind.
Speaker 6 (21:03):
Of the point this year, is that like matchup or not,
there's not a team that's just so dominant that if
you run into them, you can't beat them. I think
with UCLA, what bothers them is real size. But Mara
came on, and I think if Mark can be a
big deal for them in the postseason. Not only do
I think UCLA can make a run in the Big
Ten tournament, I think they can make a run in
(21:24):
the NCAA tournament. Because you know, early in the season,
Billideaux was the five. They weren't get much from Will
Kyle either. In the minute Mara started coming on, was
the minute UCLA started beating teams that he didn't think
that they could beat.
Speaker 3 (21:38):
The one and only Don McLain is our guest. You
can just imagine him and Matt Muney Smith Clinton, Elmo's
Cola's down there in Indianapolis.
Speaker 4 (21:48):
Let's go.
Speaker 3 (21:49):
They're going to have up there. I should say they're
going to have the time of their lives covering the big.
Speaker 6 (21:55):
Five o'clock p Well, got the morning session. We're done
at five.
Speaker 3 (22:00):
Yeah, I mean, not gonna be an early session. Bad
girl drunk by sex? Come on before we move on
to the pro basketball ranks, because obviously the Lakers story
is hot, and the Clippers finally got to win after
what seemed to be like a free fall. But how
would you rate Eric Musselman's first year at USC. They
(22:22):
definitely had some high points and got some wins that
maybe people didn't expect.
Speaker 6 (22:29):
Yeah, I think it was good. Pee. I think you know,
when you come to a new situation, it's hard, regardless
of who you are and how much success you've had.
But then you come to a situation where you have
one returning player and you're recruiting the portal not really knowing.
And I don't know if we've talked about this or not,
but conversations I've had this year in understanding just how
(22:49):
it goes with the portal. It's like speed dating. You
got like one or two days because everybody's trying to
get the same guys, and so you're piecing together roster
and you really don't know. Like talking to Danny Sprinkle
the other night, to Washington head coach, and like he's like,
we had to get eight guys, and we were and
we were new on the job. We had to take
some guys late. He's like, we did. We thought we
(23:11):
knew who we were getting, but you don't always know.
And so I think Eric Musselm improved with the roster
he had because he missed on a couple of guys
in the portal that he could coach and that he's
going to get the job done at USC. You know,
they're going to be in the Big ten tournament, which
it wasn't looking great for a while. But I think
now that he's settled into year one, I think things
(23:32):
will slow down. They can recruit high school guys. They
got Arenas's kid coming in, and they'll be able to
manage the portal a little bit easier, I guess than
how they had to do it last year.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
Does it.
Speaker 2 (23:43):
This sounds completely ridiculous, but you know we've talked about
I know you've talked about imagine missing the Big Ten Tournament,
like the kind of damage that could do for you
as as a coach. You mentioned they have the tiebreaker
over Iowa, So even if they lose, they're.
Speaker 4 (23:59):
Going to be in.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
Do they like, is it a big deal if they
don't win that that thirteen versus twelve game?
Speaker 6 (24:06):
Like?
Speaker 4 (24:06):
Is that kind of a big game for them?
Speaker 2 (24:08):
So you go all the way to Indianapolis and you
don't have to turn around and go all the way
home after Wednesday. You're actually playing on Thursday kind of
when the tournament starts.
Speaker 6 (24:17):
Look, you want to win every game, no matter what
I think. I get what you're saying, Matt, but I
don't think that. I don't think, at least for me,
if USC did go to the Big Ten Tournament and
lose the first game, I don't think I'd have a
different opinion of Moss or the season if they lost
that game. I happen to think that if they do
(24:37):
get in, they are gonna win at least that first
game and maybe another one they have. They're a different matchup.
We talked about matchups. They have all these six to
seven wings and guys and they're shooting it better now.
Wesley Yeats has really come on, So yeah, I don't
I don't. Look every team would be disappointed to go
all the way to Indianapolis and lose, But I don't
think it would change how I feel about USC season.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
The two guys that are going to Indianapolis and they're
guaranteed not to take any else are Don McClain and
Matt Smith clinking those almost colas. Yeah, bumping colo's and
clinking colas, having the time of their lives in the midway.
It's gonna be a hell of a time now, Don,
(25:22):
moving on to the pro game where it comes to
the Lakers. Don are you surprised that they've had this
much sustained success and really just a hell of a
two weeks, As Charles Barkley says.
Speaker 6 (25:36):
Yeah, I am, you know, if I'm being honest, I
am a little surprised. But I think what's happened is
is Luca energized. I think JJ Reddick at the same
time really started to figure things out in how to
manage a team scheme wise. Defensively, they're doing some different things.
But he said something the other day, and I'm sure
(25:57):
you guys have talked about it about the cheat code.
There is no cheat codes in the NBA except for
playing hard. And I think he's gotten that message across.
And I've said that for years because somebody told me
that when I first got into the league. Was you know,
an NBA coach's job is to get guys to play
together and play hard. It's as simple as that. And
I think what the Lakers have done Lucas energized him.
(26:20):
I think JJ's realized, you know, their personnel, Vanderbilt coming back,
and then just get them to play hard every night,
and if you do that, you're gonna win games. And
that's what they've done.
Speaker 2 (26:30):
Yeah, you look at last night, and I don't know
if you saw the clip the Lakers posted a JJ's
post game, but as he's kind of going through the
box score and talking about all the things they've did
and how they didn't let go of the rope even
though they were down, and it took till the very
last second of regulation to get that thing to overtime,
and then he singled out Gabe Vincent and you know,
(26:53):
we've all kind of talked about how much, you know,
for whatever reason, you know that Lebron is playing so
much beatter, you know, with Luca out there on the court.
But what about, like how that acquisition impacts You've talked about,
you know, Vanderbilt, but how Luca's arrival impacts those role
players that just they didn't seem like they fit, like Dave.
(27:15):
Vincent's had a terrible tenure with the Lakers after they
thought he was gonna mean that shooter they needed. You
see that last night, Like, what is it about his
addition that has those role players playing at a Jackson
Hayes at a much higher level than they were.
Speaker 6 (27:28):
Well, I would say this, Matt, and I don't watch
the Lakers close enough to really comment on, you know,
gave Vincent's role in what it actually was? Was he
on the ball more than he was in Miami? He
was he asked to manage the offense more, get the
team into sets. So I don't know that, But but
if I had to guess, you bring Luca in, you
(27:49):
have a guy in Lebron high IQ Luca high IQ.
If I'm a guy like Vincent and I can really
shoot all of a sudden, I'm probably off the ball
more if I was. But now I know, oh I'm
getting shots. I know I am because Lebron and Luca
both unselfish. They draw defenders, they spray it out, kick
it out, and you get the shots. So if I
had to guess when Luca came gave Vincent, some of
(28:12):
the pressure came off and like some of the responsibility.
Now I just got to be ready to shoot. So
if it's Lebron, if it's Luca, if they're both on
the floor, I'm probably gonna get shots. And that's that's
like a not a relaxing thing, but a comforting thing
if you're a guy like Vincent that can really shoot.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Does it continue into the playoffs like a flaming train
on a track, the whole thing.
Speaker 6 (28:36):
I mean, it looks like it will. I have a
feeling teams are going to figure out pee like how
to attack Luca like other teams have in the past
when it A lot of teams don't show their hand
in the regular season. They know they're going to be
a playoff team, so they don't They won't give you
different looks defensively that they know they're going to give
you in the playoffs. But I have a feeling we're
(28:57):
going to be talking about that that as good as
the defense is now and how Vanderbilt these guys all
cover up Fitney Smith, all cover up Luca, and all that.
These NBA teams are too smart. They're gonna find a
way to attack Luca. And we'll see if that's a
problem or not.
Speaker 3 (29:11):
The Great Don McClane Seattle and then sojourn to the
Midwest to experience the Big Ten Tournament like a wide
eyed young man at the first time at Disneyland seeing
the matter.
Speaker 6 (29:25):
Man, Man, tell me if I'm wrong, all all the
all the commoners will be at Saint Elmos. We don't
want to go there. That's where all the regular people go.
We we go to the play the cool places.
Speaker 2 (29:35):
Exactly right, we stay. We stay far away from Saint Elmo.
And by far away, I mean right next door at
Harry and is He. That's where the cool people.
Speaker 3 (29:45):
And they share the same kitchen, don't share the same kitchen,
but we go there the rest.
Speaker 6 (29:51):
As long as I can get a steak in a
red wine, I don't care. But it can't be at
Saint Elmos because everybody's expecting us, Matt to be there,
so we're not going.
Speaker 3 (29:59):
Well, has better swerve and hegg over to the steak
and shake. It's not a big time murder.
Speaker 2 (30:05):
And if you mean cherry coke when you say red
wine and steak and shake has got you covered.
Speaker 3 (30:12):
Have a great day and thank you. Don have a
great weekend and enjoy Seattle. Petro Somebody show will continue
with the Dead and a live Guy Birthday of the
Day coming up down A Sports is on until the
Clippers play tonight, which is going to be another exciting
(30:34):
Clipper matchup.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
Matt.
Speaker 3 (30:36):
They're on a wind streak. You can't deny that they've
won one in a row and people are starting to
feel really good about what the Clippers are putting together.
Your dead Guy Birthday of the Day, Matt, very exciting
one if you're into botany like my brother Dimitri. Luther
Burbank seventy six years old today. Not the Luther Burbank
(31:02):
from Kate's beloved hometown. Oh the dentist. Yeah, not Burbank
of Burbank, California. I'm seeing you reverse the horns. You
can play the droup. Oh yeah, the dream that would
be the opposite of the horns, at least to our world.
Extremely famous botanist. You could say he's a bigger deal
(31:23):
even than the dentist doctor Bobank.
Speaker 4 (31:26):
Dare you well?
Speaker 3 (31:28):
I mean you tell me. When I'm done here, Matt,
I'll be the judge of this famous botanist and horticulturist.
Born in Lancaster, Massachusetts, grew up on a farm, had
only a high school education, but a gift for the
ground and what comes out of it, thirteenth to fifteen children.
Speaker 4 (31:46):
Who knew, okay, that's a good run.
Speaker 3 (31:48):
When his father died, he used the inheritance at eighteen,
I can't imagine how much there was, and freaking fifteen.
Speaker 4 (31:55):
Kids twelve dollars to buy.
Speaker 3 (31:57):
His own plot of land, and there he developed the
Burbank potato. He sold the rights for one hundred and
fifty dollars. Because of its russeted skin, it is now
called the russet Burbank potato, and it is now the
most widely cultivated potato, including McDonald's fries, in the United
(32:20):
States of America. Because like everything that Burnbank cross bread
and made, it was better did not spoil as quickly.
He took the money that one hundred and fifty bucks
to Santa Rosa and bought more land. Developed more than
(32:40):
eight hundred strains and varieties of plants and new developed
fruits in his fifty five year career. Grains, matt grasses, vegetables,
the spineless cactus used for cattle feed. He became known
(33:02):
for his his plant catalogs and his collaborations with the
Stark Brothers and their orchards. Is what made him like
the Dodgers and mister cartoon collaboration, Ah, I got you.
The Stark Brothers made his work profitable and globally known
(33:28):
and helped him and Thomas Edison get a patent legislation
for plant breeders, which that he used to have. Of course,
our favorite plant breeder of all time, Walter.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Not not even close. Give me that, boys and Barry.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Luther Burbank became famous and an essential person in American
and global horticulture and had a fifty five year career.
His biggest patron, you guessed it, Andrew Carnegie.
Speaker 4 (34:04):
Don't have any money, No, there's nothing.
Speaker 3 (34:11):
So next time you're in Santa Rosa or something, you
can maybe check out his experimental farm, which is a showplace.
Every time you enjoy a Santa rosa plum or a
flaming golden nectarine. It's bird Bank. You can think basically
(34:35):
everything he did was a huge deal, and when he
died there was no there was no one really to
continue how impactful and creative his work was.
Speaker 4 (34:46):
I don't think.
Speaker 2 (34:48):
I don't think there's a bigger vegetable in the United
States than the russet potato. You're correct, Matt, Yeah, I
mean it's like talk about a collab.
Speaker 3 (35:01):
Yeah. I mean, it's like Quicksilver and Billabong coming together.
Speaker 4 (35:05):
Seeing it's like Tracy Thorn in Massive Attack.
Speaker 3 (35:07):
Wow, that was big too. I mean, if I prefer
Horace Andy, thank you, Matt. You tell me now, you
tell me doctor Burbank, the dentist who founded Kate's hometown,
(35:27):
or the botanist and horticulturalists.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Now, Luther Burbank, you're a live guy, as your exploration
and adventurer to the Ends of the Earth show of record,
of course, are live guys gonna celebrate his eighty first
birthday today, Sir Runoff Fines British News, Kate.
Speaker 5 (35:46):

Rough start born in Windsor, four months after his father
was blown to bits while commanding the Royal Scots Grays
in Italy after stepping on a German anti personnel. S mind,
(36:51):
his parents were royalty upon his birth. He inherited his
father's baronetcy. Was raised with a strong sense of duty
that would shape his future. While at Eton College, he decided,
I'm all about that action, boss. He was in the
s part of the Sultan of Oman's armies. He tamped
down a Communist uprising in the dofar War. Eight years
(37:13):
of service in both the Arctic and desert environments, he
finished in nineteen seventy one. After he relinquished his commission,
he almost immediately started exploring. His first major expedition came
in seventy two, he and Charles Blackmore became the first
people to cross the Antarctic on foot.
Speaker 4 (37:31):
What are you doing? Runoff?
Speaker 2 (37:32):
And then I'm just gonna walk across Antactic all right
on foot. One of his or probably his most famous
feat was the first ever successful trans global journey via
the Poles.
Speaker 4 (37:44):
In seventy nine, he led.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
The first ever polar circumnavigation, traveling through both the Arctic
Antarctic regions on foot with dog sled and by small aircraft.
In the nineteen nineties, is that actually yeah, it seems
like the would get you. I think he's missing a
few digits here and there.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
There's a great French restaurantic just kick get it down.
Speaker 4 (38:05):
I can't get enough of it.
Speaker 2 (38:07):
In three he was diagnosed with a life threatening heart
problem and then had a severe heart attack. How did
he respond? By running the land Rover seven by seven
by seven October First Marathon Patagonia October, Second Marathon Antarctica
October eighth, Sydney, Australia, ninth Singapore, then London, then Cairo
(38:29):
and closed it out with New York City, seven marathons,
seven continents, seven days after he had a heart attack
in his sixties, His autobiography Mind Over Matter was a
best seller. He has authored twenty four fiction and nonfiction books.
Quick Nugget Before we Wrap. He was going to be
James Bond. It was down to him and Roger Moore.
Speaker 3 (38:48):
We'll be right back. We got more, We've got Dead
and Alive done. But your final hour fun Fact and
your quick hits are headed your way. Yes, we will
do extra minutes of radio, as much as required as
is required for great sports talks purpose.
Speaker 4 (39:07):
Ye would do more than that if we wanted to,
If you wanted to, we could. We could.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
Let's keep going on, traveling anywhere.
