professional food tasters employed by big food companies.
Speaker 4 (02:57):
Not only the taste to make sure the King's not
being poisoned.
Speaker 2 (03:01):
That dat not like that. No, nor the people that
go to McDonald's to get the dojic or the taco
bell to get the Instagram video.
Speaker 4 (03:14):
Yeah I got it.
Speaker 2 (03:15):
Yeah, not that either.
Speaker 4 (03:17):
Adams guy that smells the hops.
Speaker 2 (03:19):
Right, this is employed by UH Procter and Gamble right
to taste. Hey, are these whatever it is?
Speaker 5 (03:28):
You know?
Speaker 2 (03:29):
Is this mayonnaise? Okay? Kind of stuff? They only use
gold utensils, because gold is one of the least reactive
substances in the world. So when your job is tasting
extremely subtle things. So maybe this is more like the
fine dining folks. They need neutrality. It is vital to
(03:50):
have neutrality to get the true taste of the food.
Plastic fuel or silver. Stick their face on the plate
like a dog. Then probably could Yeah, more reactive. I
have a chance of altering the flavor of the food
for them, So they use gold. You know what, Maybe
it's like a maybe like a food critic rolls up,
you know, like a like a Billiard's expert, you know,
(04:10):
like the black bring their.
Speaker 4 (04:12):
Own fool to your own bring your own fourk.
Speaker 2 (04:15):
You bring your own utensils in like a nice velvet
cloth or something like that, and you put them on
the table to try the fancy restaurant food. Maybe that's
what they're talking, like.
Speaker 4 (04:24):
That guy in Mystic Pizza.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Exactly right.
Speaker 4 (04:26):
It's time for quickets. Everybody coms quickets.
Speaker 3 (04:30):
I'll make it quick, y'all.
Speaker 4 (04:36):
Yeah. Dodgers beat the Marlins today twelve to seven. Marlin's
a real circus out there in the field. The Dodgers
are twenty one and ten now in the season, first
place atop the NL West. All is well. They are
winners of five in a row. They go five and
one on the homestand and a real long road trip
with real minimal breaks coming up for the boys in blue.
(04:59):
We are going to talk James Worthy next, Lakers and
t Wolves. Game five is tonight. Lakers down three to one,
best of seven series. Their back is to the wall
and their DEAs in the dust.
Speaker 2 (05:11):
Yeah. And this is a team that had I believe
the third They were third in the books, the third
favorite to win the NBA Championship this year, I believe,
behind only the Celtics, or maybe fourth. The Celtics, the Cavs,
the Thunder and then it was the Lakers. And here
(05:33):
they might get booted from the playoffs in a mere
five games at the hands of the Timberwolves. So huge,
huge failure. If Lebron, who can still dunk, can still
shoot threes, don't think he's having much fun not carrying
the team. So if they lose tonight in their bounce
(05:53):
out of the first.
Speaker 4 (05:54):
Round, Clippers are down three to two to the Denver Nuggets,
I must win. Game six is tomorrow here on a seventy.
That is a seven pm tip, so we'll be done
at six three to six. The league find the Falcons.
I'm surprised they don't just like leave him on a
booie out in the North Pole and kill him.
Speaker 2 (06:13):
The league idea, if you can make it back, congratulations,
you've survived. God shall die a horrible day.
Speaker 4 (06:24):
Is this the only fine going out for the prank calls?
Speaker 2 (06:27):
Well, there's the there's one to him personally too. So
the Falcons is a team two hundred and fifty k
Olbrick personally one hundred thousand dollars. So that's the real
kick in the pants. I don't know what Oulbric makes.
Speaker 4 (06:38):
What about the other guy that got pranked? Does he
get fined or is it just a high profile guy?
Speaker 2 (06:43):
Well, I think just Olbrick because his iPad is the
one it got hacked by his son and then the Falcons.
Speaker 4 (06:49):
He's an official, so he's at the He is within
the umbrella of the NFL to punish exactly why. Yes,
I get it.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
They can't lay it down on his son. I don't
know if they could try to. I don't know if
it's legal to make prank calls in Mississippi. You know,
illegal in California, legal in Nevada. So the NFL.
Speaker 4 (07:07):
Can't just like run down some regular citizen and find
them now because they don't work for the shield.
Speaker 2 (07:14):
Yeah, you might be able to send somebody down. Just
open hands, slap that kid, though, you know.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
Well that is you have called this as the second
time you've called for physical islands.
Speaker 2 (07:23):
Open hand slap. Here you go.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Jeff Spurback, the longtime friend and business partner of former
agent and former agent of John Elway, died today from
injuries he suffered when he fell off a golf cart
being driven by Elba Elway. He was sixty two. According
to TMZ, he fell off the golf cart and hit
his head on asphalt. He'd been sitting in the passenger seat.
No indication that Elway was driving negligently. He fell after
(07:50):
the two men and their spouses had left a party.
Speaker 2 (07:54):
So yeah, out at Lakinta and I think, I mean
you have.
Speaker 4 (07:58):
It where they stage they stage coaching.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
It sound right, stage coach.
Speaker 4 (08:03):
This doesn't sound like we don't have a golf cart anymore.
We used to.
Speaker 2 (08:07):
But you know what it's like to drive that golf
cart when you fast.
Speaker 4 (08:11):
Well, what I'm thinking is these are the more like
street legally ones, the big dogs, like the ones. Yeah,
the big dogs barking all over the street, you know
the ones. You can take it like. There's a few people.
You live in a beach community, Yeah, there are a
few people. They drop their kids off in a golf
cart to school, and.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
This they'll do like twenty miles an hour, right or
maybe more so. Uh, I got the big battery. It
goes thirty five.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
That's how I read it, but I'm not really sure.
Uh And Matt North Carolina's coach Bill Belichick released a
statement that sound a lot like his girlfriend released this
team And I don't know, Matt, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (08:51):
Jordan Hudson, my full truth will be coming soon. Well
that's what she claims. My full truth is I mean soon.
This apparently isn't her full truth. This is the Bill
Belichick truth because she wants to tell her truth.
Speaker 4 (09:06):
Well, I guess they're mad at CBS for asking questions
and they made a deal with CBS about this line
of questioning. Apparently it wasn't followed and she was just
trying to protect Bill and maybe it sells more books,
but if you're North Carolina, you gotta be feeling pretty
(09:27):
reticent in the moment. I would say, yeah, I wish
I would ask worthy about it, Matt, But I don't
have the ball. Oh yeah, you know, not with the
Lakers on the edge like that.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Yeah, maybe we don't. Maybe we let that next week
exactly after she tells her true next week.
Speaker 4 (09:43):
Yeah, when the Lakers are eliminated and we need different
questions from her.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
It's going to be in a great mood for the
wrap up.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
Now, Matt. The hockey situation is also dire. Like everything
you touched yesterday, Matt, it's terrible. The only thing you
predicted was James harden disappearance game and doing a victory
jog lapp around the neighborhood.
Speaker 2 (10:04):
I felt like, unfortunately, it's gonna happen. It happened again,
up to nothing this time, instead of being up one nothing,
instead of being up to one, up to zero two one.
They have lost three straight game six tomorrow in Edmonton.
Speaker 5 (10:19):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
I think the Kings might have got one shot on
goal in the second period and a couple in the third.
It was a disaster. They own the verge of losing
to the Oilers. Four straight in the first round for
a fourth straight year, getting booted from the first round
when there was so much excitement at them getting out
of this round and then maybe making a run that
the Oilers very well could end up being the toughest
(10:40):
opponent they would face in the Western Conference march to
the Stanley Cup Final. Very set.
Speaker 4 (10:45):
Everybody's going down. Everybody's going down like Mosquitos, and the
Dawyers are gonna have to stride through the summer. Good
thing were your Dodger station. Rave Dodgers coming up on Friday,
But tomorrow we'll have Clippers coming up next. James Worthy.
With the Lakers on the brink, we will hear from
big game James next.
Speaker 2 (11:13):
And win five of six on the home stand as
they get ready for this ten day, ten game trip.
But a big victory. What needs a big victory tonight
in the Lakers, That's what needs a victory. The Lakers
team facing elimination in his time now. Courtesy of your
Southern California four Dealers for James Worthy, Ford is offering
employee pricing on all Fords. You pay what Ford employees pay.
(11:35):
Get into your Southern California four Dealers and take advantage
of employee pricing, while you can ford from America for America.
Speaker 4 (11:42):
Matt joining us right now. I hear out of the
people here in southern California and beyond. He knows about
the intensity of playoff competition. I don't know if he
knows Halliburton's dad and his towel, but he knows what
it's like to have your back against the wall. He
knows what it's like to stand on the highest peak.
(12:05):
More than twice, his jersey hangs in the rafters. He
is the one and only James Worth on the petrosand
Money Show, Emmy Award winner on Spectrum Sports net LA.
And he joins us now once again.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
James, how are you? I'm all good man.
Speaker 5 (12:24):
Just look, man, I got the priest over here, the rabbi, emymon,
I got the Baptist minister, the president. I'm trying to
throw up some prayers for tonight.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
Man.
Speaker 5 (12:37):
It's you know, being down three to one, it's bleak.
You know, you get into the bleak territory. Lebron's done it.
But this Minnesota team, they're really good and regardless of
where they received, man, there, they got a chance if
they play you know, big and defense. The Lakers cannot
(13:02):
lose at home. They cannot lose it home. That's that's
number one. Then they got to go back to Minnesota
and and and say, look, we could have got one
of those, So you got to go up there and
get another one, and then you got to come home
and close out Boy, is that possible? It starts tonight.
Speaker 2 (13:23):
Yeah. I mean, look, you said that Lebron's done. It
did in the NBA Finals, you know, down three to one,
came back when an NBA championship, So it is possible.
It's not easy. See, you know, fifteen percent of teams
have dug out of a three to one hole to
win a playoff series in NBA history. But James, the
one thing we asked you about, kind of right after
the first or second game, I can't remember which one
(13:44):
when you joined us, was if there was any concern
about the depth and the rotations and tired legs. Do
you think ultimately that's what it came down to, you know,
kind of losing that As someone who's played through it,
and I'm sure played heavy minutes in some playoff games,
you know, losing that that game four the way they
did have been up ten. How much of that is
in part to JJ just not feeling comfortable with guys
(14:04):
off his bench to give his guys a breather.
Speaker 5 (14:07):
Well, you know, the Lakers had leads. I've never seen
you know them give up Well, yes I have, I've
seen them give up leads like that before. But you know,
they had multiple times to win. And if they win
that game, you know, JJ Reddick's probably a hero, you know,
thinking I'm going with the guys I think can get
(14:29):
it done. But even if you win all year long,
your rotation has been what it has been, okay, and
it's the first time in NBA history that that's ever happened.
So there's a reason why, in my opinion, why rotations
take place. And you know, you know, you get brain
(14:50):
fogs if you get too tired, you know, you take
a shot. Maybe you wouldn't take So I don't know,
I'm not the judge, but you know, shots weren't falling,
they were a little short mental mistakes. You know, I
would have you know, personally, I would have liked to
see Gabe, you know, come in, you know, for a
(15:12):
few minutes. Give Luca Resk gives Brian a couple of
minutes to just kind of, you know, reboot for a
couple of minutes, but you know the game was there
for the taking. You know, it was you know, mental mistakes, turnovers,
not being able to hold on to leaves. You know,
you can slice it up all different kind of ways.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
Jane, it's just to kind of build on that, you know,
in terms of trusting guys and going a little bit deeper.
You know, I think the Clippers lost last night. They're
down three to two. Everybody's sort of been saying they're
the better team in the series. You expect them to win.
I don't know if that's going to be the case
now that they'd have to win a game seven in Denver.
But when you look at this series, I didn't I
(15:54):
don't feel like we heard a lot of teams saying, oh,
I think Minnesota is the better team. Did you feel
like top to bottom that Minnesota had the better roster?
Kind of how did you see this thing stacking up
before it got started? As oftentimes the better team will
come out in a seven game series, I just felt.
Speaker 5 (16:09):
Like the West was unpredictable, and I mean from one
to six to seven, I know Oklahoma's really good, Houston,
I couldn't bet on them. You know, Lakers in third.
You know, in a seven game series, things kind of
you know that regular season, you know, stigma goes away,
(16:31):
and then you have Anthony Edwards for seven games. You
have nas Red for seven games. Nobody knew about andre
you know, the guy who's just killing the Lakers. You know,
with their LEMP they're one of the best, better defensive
teams in the league. So that's what holds up in
the playoffs. Then you've got Gobert, who's really not been
(16:51):
a factor, but he's there. So in a seven game series,
it's about it's about, you know, who can make the adjustments.
The Lakers had games right there. You know, it wasn't like,
you know, I think the Lakers are better teams, but
they gave up game one. You can't do that. So
when you give up game one, if you can't get
(17:12):
a game on their court after giving up, then you're
in trouble. And that's where they find themselves. They got
to get two. They're gotta get two games at home
and one up there. So you know, look, I'm not
gonna say the Lakers are way better than Minnesota. They
might be on pay for a little bit better statistically,
but I own the court. That's where things change. In
(17:34):
a seven game series, you don't have to worry about,
you know, seeing them once a week or once every
three weeks. You know you got the same Anthony Edwards
coming down your throat. And so when you give up
a game, momentum changes, you know, confidence changes, and then
before you know, you got a series.
Speaker 4 (17:51):
The one and only James Worthy. Were always proud to
catch up with him when it comes to Anthony Edwards
or the ant Man. They've long been trying to find
a new face, a new young face for the NBA.
He's a guy that's mentioned all the time. If he's
able to win this series and make a run, maybe
his legend grows. How does he strike you as a player?
Speaker 5 (18:13):
James unique, one of a kind. You know, I don't
recall seeing a guy with handles.
Speaker 1 (18:24):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (18:24):
He's never been denied getting to the rim. He might
miss a you know, you know, a little left or
a floater, but he's never been denied getting in the paint.
And he can knock down the three. So he's deadly
and he's young, he's exciting. He has everything it takes
to be the face of the league. Maybe grow up
(18:46):
a little bit, you know, put some tape over his mouth,
and you know, take care of you know, take care
of his responsibilities. You know, if you're going to be
a father, take be that. You know, if you're going
to go out and make one be a father. You know,
those are the type of things he needs to work on.
But other than that, I mean, he's not like Jah
where you know, you got problems really off the court
(19:07):
with So he's got a chanse man. He's got a chance.
His commercials are you know, his attitude, you know, he
he he bullies the best players in the league. So
he has that that that that that it fact, he
has that thing about him that he doesn't care. He's
going to go out and bust your ass and that's
(19:28):
what he believes he can do.
Speaker 2 (19:30):
You mentioned just kind of you'd like to see Gabe
a little bit more. Only he's only playing you know,
ten twelve minutes. You got Van, you know, Vanderbilt out
there just for a quick breather. Same thing with Jackson Hayes.
It is just a quick stint. Is there is there
something because look to me, James, I would assume it
just means one of these guys is going to have
to have We feel like Doncic and Lebron are going
(19:52):
to have good games and then you got to find
that third is it? Is it Austin Reeves that you
feel like has to maybe play a little bit better.
Really had a great game and they ended up losing,
of course late to Minnesota. Like is there someone that
you could circle and say that's the guy that that's
the guy that's got to be the difference maker?
Speaker 5 (20:10):
Yeah? Yeah, those two, there's got to be both of them,
you know, really had a good game. You know, Austen's
he's challenged with those mismatches on defense. He's exerting a
lot of energy trying to get mismatched on Nas and
Andre and you know guys who who are you know,
(20:30):
longer than he is, and they're physical, so then you
got to go down and you know try to navigate
through that same physical you know, presence on the other end.
So but I think each game he's he's finding his way.
He got in fouled, trouble, had to come in and
you know, had fourteen fifteen, sixteen points. So he's the
(20:52):
guy I think that can be the X factor right
now to aid. You know, Luka and Lebron, you do
need that third factor. But I think Austin and ruly
have to you know, provide efficiency. You know, numbers have
to be good plus minus have to be good in
order to get you know, three wins in a row.
Speaker 4 (21:14):
We've all really praised JJ Reddick. A lot of people
tough coming around, but came around his performance as a
head coach throughout James is he I mean, I don't
want to say being exposed, but is lack of experience
in the playoffs showing a little bit with the Lakers
rookie head coach.
Speaker 5 (21:35):
You know, this is his first year, so anytime it's
your first as a coach, you don't have the experience
of a papa bitch. But I don't think it's I
don't think it's a lack of experience, man. I think
it's unfortunate that you know, the team plays well well
enough to win. I mean, he got this team to
(21:56):
third place. We hadn't seen that. I can't even ever
since I was you know, working at k CAL nine.
I don't know, but uh, you know, he I think
he's done an our standing job. You know, turnovers, you know, misfortunes,
on the court. Uh, Now don't. I don't think he's
been exposed. I think he's I think he's met the
challenge to get the team to where they are now.
(22:19):
They're in the playoffs, and I think some of the
some of the some of them, you know, the misfortunes
have come, you know, on the court, I don't you know,
I don't know about the playing guys the full sixth,
you know, second half, you know, because if you know,
if I'm Jackson Hayes, if I'm sitting over there and
I've been I've been playing all year long, you know,
(22:41):
I'm wondering, you know, do you have confidence in me?
You know? But being the communicator that he is, I'm
sure he conveyed that to his team and they, you know,
they all talked about it. But if I'm Jackson Hayes
and I've been getting loms and you know, making an effort,
or if I'm Vanderbilt, you know, I want to I
want to continue to do that. And when I'm watching
that second half, it had to be like thinking up
(23:04):
a little bit that they wanted to get out there
and you know, help get a rebound, get a charge,
do something like they've been doing all season long, so
we'll see how that unfolds tonight.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Last one for you, James, don't know how close you've
been watching the Clippers Nuggets series, but just thinking about
the other team in town and sort of a specific question.
Don't mean for it to be a shot. We know
how tough the playoffs are, just heck, how tough it's
to play it is to play in an NBA game,
But seems as though every every series, for whatever reason,
(23:35):
I don't know why, but James Harden ends up having
just sort of one of these games that you know
he'll play brilliantly and if it's a seven game series,
six of them, but one of the games you'll see
a two for twelve, three for fifteen, seven turnovers here,
and that you know leads the team and or is
worse than the team in plus minus? Is Is there
anything you can think of that that you would point
(23:57):
to for someone who's going to be in the Hall
of Fame first ball that for whatever reason, it seems
to pop up almost every single series.
Speaker 5 (24:04):
Yeah, it's strange. And the Clippers are good. Tippers are
really good if they've been playing really good defense. I
don't know what I don't know how to explain that.
I didn't see the entire game. I know that whatever
adjustments are made, if you're not ready for him, those
are the type of Knights you have. So, you know,
(24:25):
four or five games into it, whatever Denver did, it
was uncomfortable and he just couldn't over, you know, get
through it. I don't know where they were forcing him
right or trying to make him, you know, going to traffic.
I don't know what it was, but you cannot have
you can have an off game which can't of have
like a major hiccup from his position and as much
(24:48):
as he's been you know, contributing. So yeah, he's got
to fight the adjustments, whatever Denver did to him and
make sure it doesn't happen again.
Speaker 4 (25:00):
One of them. He is James worthy a hero to
us and the Lakers. Tonight we will see if there
are heroics or exit meetings. Either way, James rolls with
us in the playoffs, and he's gonna have to talk
about Giannis's towel or the Dad Halliburton's dad's towel.
Speaker 3 (25:21):
All right, we love you, James.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
You can't you can't, you got you can't. You can't
share your gummies with Pops Man.
Speaker 2 (25:27):
They go, look too far, I won too many. Gotta
wait for that thing to hit. All right, go James,

novel in the history of the Czech Republic slash Czechoslovakia,
The Good Soldier Spiek.

Matt Hashik, Yaroslav Hashik, dominic. Yeah, exactly, exact same spelling.
Even with the little group over the s. He's kind
of sort of without the science fiction. The Kurt Vonnegut,
because of this book of the Baltics say, a master
of dark humor, biting satire, Considered one of the most
(28:21):
enduring anti war characters. This speck that he wrote about
in world literature, born in the throes of the First
World War and told through tales that capture the absurdity
and bureaucracy of war torn Europe in the early twentieth century.
That's the book that's the character, not our man. Yaroslav.
Yaroslav born in Prague. Father alcoholic, died when he was
(28:42):
just thirteen. Had some relatives with money, so they put
him through school. But while he was studying had business academy,
he said, Man, I don't like the bourgeoise. They ain't
for me, man, And he started rolling in the Prague
bohemian and anarchist circles. And he was good at writing
about it. All of the zines of the time, if
(29:03):
you will, poems, short stories, novels teaming with satire, rebellion,
literary experimentation. His career started as a journalist, short story writer.
Lifestyle was like his writing, wild, unpredictable. Oh oh yeah,
a lot of drinking, a lot of traveling without purpose,
creating elaborate hoaxes and pranks. But in nineteen fifteen, WW

Different, elaborate, that's pretty elaborate.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
He was conscripted into the Austro Hungarian Army, sent to
the Eastern Front. No Bueno captured by Russian forces. The
same year, he would join the Czechoslovak Legion, a nationalist
military group fighting for Czech independence. But then all of
a sudden, while fighting, he does a heel turn. He
defects and joins the Bolsheviks. During the Russian Civil War,
(30:02):
he would serve as a political commissar in Siberia.

The trader in his country worked for the.

Red Armies propaganda department.
Speaker 3 (30:11):
It was nuts, oh no.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
And then he shows back up in Czechoslovakia in nineteen
twenty and people were like, what the hell, get out
of here. But then he just started writing in local
rags and they were like, oh yeah, this guy's our
best writer, so we're going to be good with this,
so less than a year later he writes the full
title The Fateful Adventures of the Good Soldier Spec during
the World War and it follows Joseph Spec, a hapless
(30:35):
yet cunning Czech soldier, as he navigates the absurdities of
military life during World War One. Hajik was a mess,
hard living. His health worsened during the writing of sec
and he died of heart failure at thirty nine. The
work was unfinished, but still published in installments, became an
instant literary sensation, hailed as a masterpiece of satire in
(30:56):
black comedy, translated into more than sixty languages, adapted for film, television, stage,
and it is, and I guess the book is. And
then it made our guy Yaroslav one of the most
important satirists of the twentieth century.
