Fun fast Effectasy.
Speaker 3 (01:38):
Yeah, we're three fun fun facts.
Speaker 2 (01:41):
Did you know is the Dodgers get set to take
on the Mets. The Metropolitans played at the Polo Grounds
in Manhattan and were so financially successful they got an
invite in the late eighteen hundreds to join both the
National League and the upstart American Association. Unbeknowns to those leagues,
they accepted both invitations and needed to come up two teams,
so their owners managed to purchase another team from a
(02:05):
spot called Troy. They entered them into the National League
and called them the New York Giants, and they entered
into the American Association. The Metropolitans also known as the
New York's and at times they were referred to as
the Indians, of course, the team that they had just
purchased in a scramble after both invitations were accepted came
(02:27):
to be the San Francisco Giants and the Metropolitans or
the Indians would become the Mets.
Speaker 5 (02:34):
That we now know what fabulous information for the Mets
proom and the Colors, which is always a shock to people,
which is why we always like to measure. You know,
why they're blueing in orange?
Speaker 4 (02:47):
Right? You know that, right? Both teams they left because
they left, you idiot. I know, I work in sports,
Matt speaker of that, there is some there is some
talk with the word of.
Speaker 3 (03:03):
The day, his words, the word of the day.
Speaker 5 (03:08):
I'm trying to find where he said it, but he
said it, and it's everywhere. You know, there's so many
podcasts out there and so many people talking and this
and that. Today's word of the day is statue, Matt statue.
Because when Derek Fisher on some podcast was asked whether
(03:29):
the Lakers should build a statue of Lebron James outside
of Crypto Arena, like Oscar de la Joya, like the
Seven Kobe statues, like the chick Hern Magic Johnson, Wayne Gretzky,
Kareem am I missing anybody?
Speaker 2 (03:53):
Uh, did you say shaq shaq when they're at Beckham Statue?
Speaker 4 (03:59):
There not yet? Is there when asked about maybe there is.
Speaker 5 (04:06):
When asked whether or not, we said that there would
be because of aeg but I don't know if they
actually did it. When asked if Lebron should have a statue,
Derek Fisher said, with everything I've done for the city
of Los Angeles, and Derek Fisher is one of your favorites, Matt,
right up there with.
Speaker 2 (04:26):
Byron Scott, oh so underrated.
Speaker 5 (04:28):
Fisher said, with what I've done for the city of
Los Angeles, I should get two statues if you give
Lebron one statue. And you know this is what this
multiple statues started because of the Kobe Bryant thing, which
is understandable, but now you know it's set a trend
(04:50):
to where Derek Fisher wants two statues to Lebron's one,
and he has said it out loud. So social media
is a blaze with Derek Fisher and comparing himself to
Lebron too, and who deserves a statue, two statues or
(05:10):
one statue or maybe even a miniature anything of that nature.
So Uh, there's some statue debate going on with our
old laker here, as.
Speaker 2 (05:21):
You call it a debate. Two sides to that, Yeah.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
Matt, I mean go on Twitter. Look, I'll look at
it right now. You go on Twitter and you write
Fisher Lebron, and there's all kinds of people be like,
Fisher was nice, but he.
Speaker 4 (05:38):
Yes, Kate, I.
Speaker 6 (05:39):
Think the bigger question is the whole Lebron statue. Now
that gets a whole rabbit hole of people on social
media saying, well, he's.
Speaker 4 (05:45):
Not real laker.
Speaker 2 (05:46):
He won a championship, he is a Laker. Well you
know he's more.
Speaker 6 (05:49):
Of a it's the whole Lebron I gotcha.
Speaker 2 (05:52):
It's it's Derek's more than I got.
Speaker 4 (05:53):
You look at this. Derek Fisher has a point.
Speaker 5 (05:56):
Derek has done more for the city of la than Lebron,
that Derek is greater Laker than Lebron one hundreds, one
hundred three and a half thousand likes.
Speaker 2 (06:06):
I misunderstood it. I apologize. Yes, I would give Derek
Fisher a statue before I would give Lebron James a
statue in front of Staple Center.
Speaker 4 (06:13):
Would you give him two? No?
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Would you rather like the I do like that. He
was so adamant of how little impact Lebron James has
had on this Lakers franchise.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
If you had an option, and you can either have
no Lebron statue or two Fisher statues, which would you prefer?
Speaker 2 (06:31):
No Lebron, two's fishers. So if I go no Lebron,
I have to go two.
Speaker 4 (06:36):
Fishers in this scenario.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
Yet otherwise I have to go one Lebron, no Fishers. Yes,
I'm gonna go two fishers.
Speaker 4 (06:47):
Wow, and what do you and would you be willing
to climb mountain?
Speaker 2 (06:52):
Well? Well, now, wait a minute, Wait a minute, wait
a minute. Can I ask can I design the statue?
Speaker 4 (06:58):
No?
Speaker 2 (06:58):
Okay, because I would love that have the Lebron statue'd
be the one of him on his back peeking out
like Hay, does the rev see me that that's a
good one. That would be a good statue.
Speaker 4 (07:06):
You're not a sculptor, though, No.
Speaker 6 (07:08):
What would the Derek Fisher statue be like the point
four shot in San Antonio?
Speaker 4 (07:13):
No, him rolling his car?
Speaker 2 (07:14):
I was gonna say, him jumping the fence at Matt
Barnes Rome.
Speaker 4 (07:25):
Ah, that's a question. No, it's not. It's a real question.
Speaker 3 (07:29):
Here's my number.
Speaker 4 (07:30):
I have four scenarios. Fine, whatever.
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Of the day, if you would you be willing to
climb Mount Baldy barefoot with Bill Cosby strapped to your back,
all these guys putting pops for sustenance in order for
there to be no Lebron statue and no Fisher statue
outside of Crypto.
Speaker 2 (07:53):
I believe that would kill me.
Speaker 4 (07:56):
But the putting pops for sustenance, you should be fine.
Speaker 2 (07:59):
I believe I would meet my demise of the devil's
spine right to try to do that.
Speaker 4 (08:05):
Now it's time for the number of the day.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Here's my number. Number of the day, one million.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
A nod to our colleague and contemporary and friend of
the show, Doug Gottlieb, I'm sure you saw this be
very interesting, as he is certainly looking to take a
different approach for his University of Wisconsin Green Bay basketball team.
They don't have the budget to do the foreign tournaments
that many teams do in the NC Double a's off season,
(08:34):
make their way to Europe or through Israel or wherever
they may go to play professionals Cuba. Saying that I
don't have that type of money, he has submitted a
waiver request to the nc double A filed it last
week requesting his University of Wisconsin men's basketball team be
allowed to enter and compete for the one million dollar
(08:55):
winner take all prize at the Basketball Tournament. Or many
people listening know the Basketball Tournament. It's the one that
has a bunch of like alumni teams and they're like
all guys that played at Syracuse or a bunch of
dudes they played at Duke and their former NBA ors
and their former standout college basketball players. But Gottlieb wants
(09:16):
to enter his current University of Wisconsin Green Bay team
into the tournament, saying it would be great competition for them.
All the money. He doesn't want the money, he said,
you can donate all that to the charity. He just
wants to try to get them into this competitive environment
because they really don't have the budget to go elsewhere.
Speaker 5 (09:32):
Your thoughts the lead, Hey, the leaves thinging outside the box,
just just like his alma Maters head football coach Mike Gundhy. Hey,
we'll play Oklahoma in the Springue Mitch and Parking. We'll
get the money to chant, We'll give the money to
our nil. Let's play Bedlam in the springue. Come on,
you know I like it. You know it's a different time.
You know, there's a lot of different things, a lot
(09:53):
of things changing, except for usc notre dame. That better
not change.
Speaker 2 (09:57):
Not damn right.
Speaker 4 (09:58):
I'll do another. I'll do another interview.
Speaker 6 (10:01):
Yes, Kates, what if the Lebron statue came with this
stipulation outside of Crypto? He's unique, he's different. He's always
the first to want to do things, one of a kind.
He wants to be the first one to have a
statue with him and his son. So Tim and Browny
shouldered his shoulder, arm wrapped around his son outside of Crypto,
the James statue.
Speaker 2 (10:22):
Your thoughts, Matt, I am in stunned silence.
Speaker 3 (10:26):
Sounds like it.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
I have to do in order to make sure that
doesn't happen.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
I don't think Laker fans. I think that if you
ask most people, it would be a ninety ten issue
about whether or.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Not the last whether or not Lebron gets one.
Speaker 4 (10:40):
Yeah, give Lebron as statue.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
How about this one? I got one for you, Kates.
Thanks for planting the seed real quick, Lebron or Bronni
you gotta have one?
Speaker 5 (10:49):
Well, Bronny played at Sierr Canyon. He's a local hero, right,
I die?
Speaker 3 (10:53):
Was this choos or die?
Speaker 2 (10:54):
I die?
Speaker 4 (10:55):
Was that your thing? And die? I thought it was
just something about being innovative.
Speaker 2 (11:00):
That's a statue. I mean it really be a real
middle finger to lebron David.
Speaker 7 (11:05):

Speaker 5 (12:41):
It's time for David Masse.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
With an inside look at the Dodgers. This is the
vass Report with David Vasse.
Speaker 5 (12:54):
Very anticipated series with the New York Matt's intriguing pitching
with Griffin Canning a local guy. Dave's got Dave Roberts
on the pregame show tonight on Marongo Casino. Dodgers on
decked So a lot to get into it, A lot
going on David's Kershaw second start and I don't know
(13:15):
what it is that the fans should expect.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
What should we expect?
Speaker 8 (13:19):
Better command. I'm not sure you're going to see better velocity,
but you're going to see better command, that's for sure.
And you're going to see Kershaw get into the fifth inning,
something that he was not able to do in his
first start of the year because he threw thirty eight
pitches in the first inning of his first start of
the season. Also, guys, keep in mind, he is chasing
(13:42):
history and a big milestone. He's just thirty strikeouts away
from three thousand in his career, so we'll see how
many he can get tonight, Dave.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Instead of Snell, Glass Now and Sasaki, we got Kershaw, Gonsolin,
and Knack going up against the thirty one in New
York mats. Of those three, which do you have the
most confidence in and which are you the most concerned about?
Speaker 8 (14:07):
Well, geez, I think I'm going with the future Hall
of Famer against those two guys, no matter what stage
of his career he's in. But I feel like we
shortchanged Tony Gonsolin constantly. It's like I mentioned the last
time around. If you look at what he has done,
and yes, he's been the benefactor of run support, or
(14:27):
you couldn't have the best winning percentage among starters since
twenty twenty two he was an All Star. He is
a guy that's really good during the regular season. So
I feel like in the first two games of this series,
the Dodgers are in good shape. And we'll see whether
or not the Dodgers decide to go with an opener
in the final game for Landon Nack like they did
(14:49):
in his last outing, or if they're just gonna let
Nac b Nack and be a starting pitcher and give
him that vote of confidence because it's tough to come
in and if you remember, he did pitch five innings
in bulk innings and he threw over one hundred pitches,
So let the guy just go out there and start.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
David Vass with us.
Speaker 2 (15:09):
It's brought to you by Service Titans. Southern California. Commercial
and residential contractors using Service Titans software typically see a
seventeen percent increase in revenue in their first two years.
Earn more go to servicetitan dot com. Individual results may
very you mentioned Knack and kind of the weird deal
they're giving him with not starting but coming in the
(15:31):
second inning, is there pressure on him there Dave to perform.
I know he's kind of on this roadie, and well,
I don't think you would pitch a second time. I
think he would be up for the home stand against
the Yankees. So is there a shorter leash on him?
Or is he the guy because of what's not behind him?
Speaker 8 (15:47):
Yeah, that's all contingent on who's pushing him in the
minor leagues and who is that? Is it Bobby Miller?
He had a good last outing, so you know, I
guess he's competing against Bobby Miller. If he doesn't pitch well,
the Dodgers may decide to go to Bobby. But really,
Bobby Miller is more of a wild card than Landon Nack.
Landon Nack's a solid guy if you just allow him
(16:09):
to go out there and be on a five day routine. So,
you know, I just think the Dodgers are looking for
any of these young guys to really step up, because
if you look at where the Dodgers are right now
compared to where they were at this time last year,
with the reinforcements in the minor leagues, we were talking
at this time last year, guys like Landon Nak, guys
(16:32):
like Bobby Miller, guys like Robleski, guys like River Ryan.
But a lot of those guys are hurt she and
can't pitch. Gavin Stone can pitch, River Ryan can't pitch.
So it feels like they're at their last line of
defense now with guys like Landon Nack and Bobby Miller
and Justin Robleski, and quite honestly, it doesn't seem like
(16:53):
Bobby Miller has stepped up when he had a golden
opportunity to really try to find a way to capture
what we saw two years ago. So the Dodgers are
in a very precarious position with their starting pitching depth,
with Glass now and Snell not coming back for another month,
and some of these young guys not available because they're
(17:15):
either out for the year with injuries they sustained last
year or not, in Themachian's case, available until the second
half of the year. So right now, this is what
the Dodgers have.
Speaker 5 (17:28):
David Vasse our guest, We love talking to him. Dodgers
Mets Tonight, Dave overall, big picture, this is a tough
stretch that the Dodgers are going into for the next
week or so, a week and a half. How will
the pitching hold up? And with the way it's been,
can it?
Speaker 8 (17:49):
Petros? This reminds me so much of last year when
the Dodgers came out of the All Star Break with
their position players being depleted, Mooki out, Freddie with his
on They were dealing with a lot of different injuries
and variables last year, and they were playing guys like
Taylor Dremmel and Tavin bigio k k was playing first base.
(18:11):
There was no month. See that's the way it feels
right now with the Dodger pitching staff and bullpen. And
if you look at the course of what you described
the next two and a half weeks, that's about twenty
twenty five games of teams that are playoff contenders, serious
playoff contenders, starting tonight with the Mets. How are the
(18:33):
Dodgers going to get through? This is a great question,
And I think a greater question is going to be
how are they going to look at the end of
this stretch. If they break five hundred, I think it
would be a big win. With where they're pitching has been,
unless all of a sudden their starters go deeper into
games and actually do their job. This Dodger offense is
(18:55):
going to have to carry this team over the course
of the next twenty twenty five games like they did
all of last season, like they have done for the
majority of this season, because it's not just the starters.
If you look at their bullpen extremely thin as well,
without Kirby Eights, without Blake Trining, without Evan Phillips to
name a few. Right now, they don't have a lot
(19:17):
of right handed, high leverage relievers to go to. So
and they're on the road for these six games, so
they're not going to have the laugh at bat to
be able to bail out their bullpen if they can
hold the leap. So this is going to be very
interesting times in the next twenty twenty five games.
Speaker 2 (19:38):
Yeah, another thing we got into a little bit earlier,
Dave was I don't quite understand the and it's not
just the La times. I saw it in multiple places
the whole don't rush Otani back, don't get ahead of yourselves.
I don't get the sense there's any chance the Dodgers
would do anything to jeopardize their golden goose, that that
guy is not going to be taking them out out
(19:59):
of desperate in the regular season as opposed to when
they are absolutely one hundred percent sure he's ready to go.
And it's been twenty months already. It's not like it's
been twelve, you know, the guys, you know, almost two
years removed from his surgery.
Speaker 8 (20:14):
Yes, but you're forgetting the fact that he had shoulder
surgery after his injury in the World Series, which set
back his throwing progression. I think we all take that
for granted considering the way he's performed without any hiccups.
He did have left shoulder surgery and that does affect
the mechanics, and that did prevent him from continuing to
(20:36):
throw during the offseason. But you're right, Matt, the Dodgers
are not going to accelerate Otani's throwing program just because
they're in this situation. And that's the difference between the
Dodgers players front office. They don't panic in these type
of situations. They're always fighting for the next day. They're
fighting for the big picture. If you go back and
(20:58):
look at that Diamondback series, Yeah, they lost the first
game of the series, but they forced Shelby Miller to
get into that first game and he had to come
back and back to back games and wasn't available for
the third game. So that's the mentality this Dodger team has,
and that's the part that's part of the reason why
they're not going to fast track Otani. But my friends
(21:21):
in the Japanese media told me last Saturday they got
indications that Otani may throw a live bat in practice
session tomorrow at City Field.
Speaker 5 (21:33):
That's great information from the great David Vase. I don't
know what's wrong with Juan Soto, but there is something
right with ti Oscar Hernandez.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
Dave.
Speaker 5 (21:43):
We've seen a lot of guys come through over the years.
How big of an impact has this guy had compared
to I don't know other guys.
Speaker 8 (21:51):
Petro inferred me and you've talked about this in football,
inclusive teammates. There has not been a more inclusive teammates
the Dodgers have acquired from the outside and brought in
and quite some time that has the spirit of Taoscar Hernandez.
This guy loves the game of baseball. He's grateful that
(22:14):
he's out there every day playing a game that he loves.
And even though it is a big business and everybody
wants to be rewarded the way they believe they should
be rewarded. He never loses side of the fact it's
a game. He has a smile on his face. He's
banging the fence at me to smile more during games.
(22:34):
We're in the middle of a postgame interview and he
poses for a picture smiling while I'm answering asking the question.
I mean, this guy goes all out. He's brought the
sunflower seats organic celebration. Now other guys are doing it
for him and other players, and the biggest thing is
he's producing. You know, you could talk all you want
(22:56):
about Garrett Cole not covering first or Aaron Judge boxing
that fly ball in Game five, but we forget and
like all season long, the biggest hit of the fifth
inning of Game five of the World Series came from
Taoscar Hernandez, a game time double, because without that, the
(23:16):
Dodgers don't win. Without Taoscar Hernandez throwing out John Carlos
Stanton at home plate. Those are the things we take
for granted because he is not Otani, he's not Mookie Bets,
he's not Freddie Freeman. But his importance to the team,
I would argue, in some cases, is greater than any one.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Of those three beautiful man the great David vasse hell
of a road trip starts two teams that lead the
wild card right now, the Mets in the NL, the
Guardians in the AL as we get ready for Dodger
Baseball coming up just after three o'clock with Dodgers on deck, Dave,
appreciate it.
Speaker 8 (23:53):
All right, guys, thank you, Fight on, Petros, fight on
to you, Dave.
Speaker 5 (23:57):
And we'll be back with more great sports talk on
the next segment, Denning a live guy Birthday of the
Day on a frog Man Friday. We appreciate you listening
and thank you. We hope that you have a safe
(24:17):

Speaker 2 (24:42):
Yeah, it's a show. That is our message. And I
would like to add, well, I don't do a whole
lot of shopping over there at the Smart and Final.
The Valentina hot sauce, one of my absolute favorites you

Dodgers Mets Kershaw versus Griffin Canning former Santa margar Rita Eagle,
Carson Palmer University, former UCLA Bruin and Sarafina Angel but

We are your home of the World Series champion Dodgers
and Matt will be off until a very short one
hour show on Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (25:50):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (25:50):
The the schedule yet again continues the Dodgers on this
now balanced schedule. I should say it is no longer unbalanced,
making their way through the East and the Midwest. They'll
head to Cleveland after playing the Mets, and then a
nice homestand with two New York teams, the Yankees and Mets,
followed by a trip to Saint Louis. So gonna be
(26:12):
some moving and shaking for the Petros and Money Show.
Be sure to check out the PMS on demand the
Petros Money Show podcast. That way, you don't miss anything.
When we're on a super flex like we are today,
one to three pm off before we would even leave,
before we would even normally start.
Speaker 5 (26:28):
Okay, Matt, your dead guy, birthday of the day today again,
have a safe weekend. Don't get an axe to the stomach,
just like our friend Benjamin Scatman Carruthers one hundred and
fifteen years old.
Speaker 2 (26:41):
Yeah, don't do that.
Speaker 4 (26:43):
You don't want to go.
Speaker 5 (26:45):

On guitar and drums, performed as a teen and never stopped.
Speaker 4 (26:58):
Throughout his life. This guy I.
Speaker 5 (27:01):
Worked started performing just like us five times a week
on the radio. Unlike us, he was in Dayton, Ohio
and ohioan after a while, he married a woman from Steubenville,
same place as Dean Martin was from, and moved to
Los Angeles. Scatman signed with Capitol Records and released a
(27:25):
lot of singles, did jazz and rock popular songs of
the day. He did USO tours with Bob Hope Matt.
Speaker 4 (27:34):
For Memorial Day. You know what, Yeah, it's good, dude.
I mentioned that.
Speaker 5 (27:40):
Scatman had movie roles that we will discuss, but he
was in Hello Dolly with Louis Armstrong. He was on
Meet Me at the Fair, prolific voice actor. He was
meadow Lark Lemon. I was not meadow lark Lemon. Was
(28:00):
meadow lark Lemon, But no Matt, it was Scatman.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
I always thought Medow Lark Lemon.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Right in the Harlem Blow Wiltrotters.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
Everybody's favorite him and Curly.
Speaker 5 (28:11):
He was Jazz the Transformer, the Black Transformer Jazz. He
was that voice in the movie and thirty three episodes.
He was in Arista Cats, Underrated, and of course Hong
Kong Fui number one super Guy, which we will play later.
(28:32):
Other highlights Louis the garbage Man on Chico and the Man,
the first black person to appear regularly on LA TV
in the show Dixie Showboat. Never caught the reruns of
that one man, I don't.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
In La Dixie Showboat. You know, you know what these
people really want? What's that a Dixie Showboat.
Speaker 5 (28:58):
One of the most famous performers in LA like the forties.
Speaker 3 (29:02):
Was Spade Coolie.
Speaker 5 (29:04):
It's like a Western guy. Look up Spade Cooley if
you don't believe me. Guest roles the ones we all want,
Matt love Boat, Ko Jack Cole, Shack, The Knight Stalker,
Geni Buss's Favorite.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Our favorite show ever, Laverne and Shirley.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
He did four Jack Nicholson movies, The Shining Where He
Caught Us, The King of Marvin Gardens, One Flew Over
the Cuckoo's Nest, and The Fortune. For Jack Nicholson movies
he was even in.
Speaker 4 (29:40):
He was in so many.
Speaker 5 (29:40):
He was in Linda Lovelace for President. He didn't perform
as a porn porn actor, but he was.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
In the movie.
Speaker 5 (29:47):

Kong Foie number one, super guy.
Speaker 2 (30:50):
Hey, and I want to turn into a superhero. I
gotta jump into a file cabinet, nothing better.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
And straighten your whole body after this.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
That's right, come out with the feet perfectly perpendicular to
the ground. I mentioned it from time to time. You're
a live guyp one of the great live shows I
have ever seen, and I've seen hundreds of them. But
I was fortunate to stumble into a Black Crows private
concert for about fifty people, and you'd have thought they
were playing Sofi Stadium by how long they went. The
(31:18):
energy with which they performed at the House of Blues,
New Orleans, very bad energy about twenty five years ago.
So a tip of the cap to the rarely mentioned
younger brother frontman Chris Robinson Rich Robinson, I thought you.
Speaker 4 (31:34):
Were gonna mention a trigger hippie guy for time.
Speaker 2 (31:36):
Oh, Steve Gorman of the Black Crows Richard lead guitarist, songwriter,
born in Atlanta musical family. Stan Robinson had a big
hit in the fifties with Boom a Dip Dip. But
Dickie is fifty six today. He wrote she Talks to
Angels when he was fifty. Well, he wrote the music.
(31:58):
Obviously wasn't right now about a you know, smack addicted
gal at fifteen, but he did write all the music
before She Talks to Angels when he was just fifteen
years old. Black Crows were originally called Mister Crow's Garden
after Rich's favorite children's book by Leonard Leslie that was
called Mister Crow's Garden. They were trying to be the
(32:20):
next Ram. They really looked up to Rim, another Georgia band,
and they were playing a lot of indie rock and
kind of cool sort of college rock. But they got
a demo with A and M. A and M declined,
and then RIM's manager reaches out and tries to sign
them to his indie label, but wisely they pass and
end up, you know, building a pretty good fan base
(32:43):
in Georgia with all the live shows, and by nineteen
eighty nine they had changed their name to the Black Crows,
gained all that momentum in the state of Georgia and
decided we're going to start expanding. So they roll up
the Eastern seaboard, find their way to CBGB's and a Greek,
George Joculius, happened to be in the crowd when they
(33:06):
played the venue and immediately offered, and they immediately signed
to Rick Rubins just launched Death American label, and George
was all over it, one of them in the studio
immediately recording began, almost immediately recommended Otis Redding's Hard to
Handle and Shake Your Money Maker, released in nineteen ninety,
(33:26):
less than a year after they were signed. A lot
of that success was thanks to our man Rich at
the time twenty one year old, with those awesome riffs,
the solos, the southern rock sound twice as hard, this
one Jealous again and of course the crossover smashed that
he wrote when he was fifteen, She talks to angels.
Everybody wanted a piece of The Black Crows played support
for Aerosmith in.
Speaker 4 (33:48):
Nineteen nine past. That was the Love and an Elevator tour.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
I'm sure zz Top took him out in ninety one
and there was no sophomore slump. They got off tour
with the Top some like to call him, and by
some I mean none. In nineteen ninety two, they released
the Southern Harmony and Musical Companion Remedy, all music penned
by rich lyrics by Chris, shot up to number one
on the Billboard chart in May of nineteen ninety two.
Speaker 4 (34:12):
A couple more releases, He's had a big crossover success huge.
Speaker 2 (34:16):
You know, Chris is busy sewing his oats with celebrities.
Rich is just banging out tasty licks. The next three
albums didn't work so well. Chris, his older brother turned
into a bit of a mess. So Richard had to
do his own thing Hookah Brown. It was called couldn't
get that out the ground. Then he did a full
solo record. He did not do Trigger Hippie. That was
(34:39):
just our man Gorman and some other slap these. Thankfully,
the Black Crows got back together so they could make
a bunch of money. They opened for Petty, They did
all the festivals. He and Chris went out doing acoustics shows.
Those did really well and they're still together. So hell
of a songwriter, hell of a guitar player. This guy Dicky.
They are touring right now. Richard Robinson, Happy fifty sixty.
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Beach Live, Staples, the Black Road.
Speaker 2 (35:04):
Yeah, they're great life if you have a chance.
Speaker 4 (35:06):
Yeah, they do live then they do like post shows.
They like to perform.
Speaker 2 (35:10):
They do, and they performed. You know, you appreciate that.
That's a band that knows how to perform. I don't
know if Gork they'll do it or if trigger Hippie
took off.
Speaker 4 (35:17):
I don't do it.
Speaker 5 (35:18):
Match don't attack the wooden Brandon Flowers.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Don'tsen Some people know how to perform. And Chris Robinson,
he's got movement and those hips of his man.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Don't attack the wooden Brandon.
Speaker 2 (35:31):
Flu He is very stiff on stage.
Speaker 5 (35:34):
We'll be back on it, to be true, on Tuesday.
I never seen them one o'clock on Tuesday.
Speaker 4 (35:41):
We'll be back. Have a great day every day.
