Speaker 2 (00:19):
This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowherd
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Hello, and welcome to the Herd. It's me Jason McIntyre
in for a vacationing Colin Cowherd. I think he's on
the East Coast doing things that I probably would not
be doing on my vacation. I am joined today as
always by the great Alex Curry. Alex, how are you
on this fine Thursday morning?

Speaker 4 (00:47):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (00:47):
I'm great, Jay Mac.

Speaker 5 (00:48):
This is it's my birthday weekend, so I'm like, vibes are.

Speaker 3 (00:51):
High this whole week.

Speaker 5 (00:52):
In the next week, we're gonna have a great time.

Speaker 3 (00:55):
The next two day. Indeed, birthday weekend. Is there Vegas
on the horizon? What are we doing? Like? You know,
work on weekends.

Speaker 5 (01:00):
I have my Fox Sports Radio show on Saturdays' work
baseball on Sundays and yeah, birthday Monday.

Speaker 3 (01:05):
Wow, everybody's excited. Alex has the birthday and my Dallas
Mavericks come through last night. How about that. We're gonna
start the show talking NBA finals. Yes, I will get
to the quarterback of the Jets who said some more
extreme things yesterday. I had nothing wrong with that. He's
an extremist. We'll get to it, but I need to
start with the Mavericks and Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving,

(01:26):
Jason Kidd, what a performance that was.

Speaker 6 (01:28):
Listen.

Speaker 3 (01:28):
NBA playoffs have been thrilling, and I you know, I
want to be a positive guy. You know, Alex even
said the vibes are flown. I need to be positive.
So I'm not gonna start the show going after Aunt
Edwards aka the next Michael Jordan. Come on, folks, Dwayne
Wade's a much better example. But I'm not gonna I'm
not gonna go after him, right, I'm not gonna take

(01:49):
a shot at you know, Rudy Gobert struggling mightily against
Luka Doncic. I'm gonna start positive. I'm gonna start with
Kyrie Irving, and I need to apologize to Kyrie Irving.
I'm sure, you guys. After Minnesota dispatched Denver in Game seven,
the cock sure, Anthony Edwards said, oh, I put, I
had the cuffs on Jamal Murray. Jamal Murray had thirty

(02:11):
five points and next up, I want all the smoke
from Kyrie. I'm gonna go out guard Kyrie Irving. Well,
Kyrie Irving came out in game one last night and
had twenty four points in the first half. Out of
character for him is he had been kind of a
slow starter, letting Luca lead the way early Kyrie went off.
You could see in the video there on FS one
anytime Anthony Edwards was on him. Barbecue chicken, I'm going

(02:32):
right to the basket. And Kyrie Irving talked to Charles
Berkley and company about that last night.

Speaker 6 (02:38):
You had home mine of your business the other night,
what about it? You put your fetiful founder just chilling,
probably having a nice meal.

Speaker 4 (02:44):
And then the young fella says.

Speaker 6 (02:46):
I got Kyrie so and he said excuse me, and
he said it again, he said, I got Kyrie. Yeah,
that's the most aggressive you being in a long time.

Speaker 7 (02:57):
Sir.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
I know that had to irk you a little bit. Well,
use it as a motivation.

Speaker 8 (03:04):
You know, when I was sitting at home and I
saw it, I was like, just a nod of respect.

Speaker 3 (03:10):
How about that? Be careful what you wish for, young fella.
You know, listen, hey, we all say stuff. Anthony Edwards
regretted it clearly, But let's focus on Kyrie Irving, right.
I mean, that is such a good perspective from the
old man Kyrie Irving. And I can call him old
at thirty two in these playoffs, which has been characterized
by young stars everywhere, Kyrie's kind of the old guy,
the old head. Now. I've had a personal checkered history

(03:33):
with Kyrie Irving. When he came into the league. Man,
this kid had all the swag, the drip, the riz,
whatever you want to call it. He had it. He
had those cool viral commercials when YouTube was kind of popping,
and then he was Uncle Drew and made a movie
and everybody loved Kyrie Irving. And I don't know whether
the stardom and the fame went to his head or

(03:54):
that game winning shot against the Warriors in Game seven
on the road went to his head. But Kyrie went
sideways and it had been a bad run for him personally.
I mean, we're talking about a guy who demanded out
of Cleveland with Lebron after winning a title. There were
reports that Kyrie Irving said, you know what, if you
don't trade me, I'm gonna go ahead and get surgery
that I may or may not need, and they traded him.

(04:15):
He goes to Boston. He's with Young Tatum, Young Brown,
Marcus Smart, they had a squad and Kyra's like, nah,
not for me. I don't need these young guys. I
can't deal with these young guys. So then he goes
to Brooklyn and that was an epic disaster. I mean,
he drags Kevin Durant with him. I think I said
at the time that this ruined Kevin Durant's career, and
you could argue Kevin Durant's gone all downhill since leaving

(04:36):
the Warriors for Brooklyn, and he did that to follow
Kyrie Irving. Like I said, Kyrie Irving was a cool guy.
People like him around the league. He's got an elite
lay up finishing package around the rim. Nobody does what
Kyrie Irving does. But it flamed out spectacularly. I mean,
you guys remember a Brooklyn the Guy's burning stage in
the locker room and James Harden's looking at him like, bro,

(04:57):
what the hell's going on here? Kyrie was going sideways,
and you know, then there was the whole bubble situation
where the players were trying to get to the bubble
and finish the season and have the finals, and Kyrie
Irving publicly went on a call and was like, why
are we doing this? We shouldn't finish the season, we
should not play And it was just Kyrie Irving was
having a moment. You know, we don't personally know what

(05:19):
these athletes are going through off the court with their
families or their girlfriends or wives or what have you.
Kyrier was going through some stuff and he ends up
demanding out of Brooklyn. That was that just was unbelievably bad.
And he lands in Dallas and a lot of people
are like, well, this ain't gonna work. But but Lebron
James is a guy who thought it was gonna work.

(05:39):
And me, the whole time, I thought Kyrie Irving was
the Scorpion and the Scorpion and the Frog story, which
I think I've told on this show before. You guys know,
the scorpion wants to cross the river and ask the
frog for a ride, and the Frog's like, no, you're
gonna sting me and I'm gonna die. We'll both die,
and the scorpion says, no, no, no, I'm different now,
I'm not gonna do that. Frog says all right, gives

(06:00):
him a ride halfway across the river. What does a
scorpion do? Bing frogs like, why the hell would you
do that? We're gonna die, and they both die and
scorpions says, yeah, that's what I do. I'm a scorpion.
I thought Kyrie was the scorpion, and now all signs
indicate he's all grown up. In these playoffs with Dallas
this season, there's no more I need a week off

(06:21):
to go to my sister's birthday. There's none of that.
He's got his act cleaned up. He's been a model
citizen in Dallas. He's working great with Luca. Maybe he's
just a better two than he is a one. He's
not the leader that he was trying to be in
Brooklyn or trying to be in Boston, and he's better
a number two guy. And I'm just telling you, MAVs

(06:41):
are three wins away from the NBA Finals, and I
would not be surprised at all. I think they're the
betting favorite in my eyes to win the NBA Championship.
Now let's pivot to the NFL and my favorite team
in the league. Yes, the New York Football Jets mired
in I don't even think I can call it mediocrity.
They have the longest playoff drought in the NFL. And

(07:04):
this is a Jets team, folks, with their expectations last
year and then what four snaps into the season, Aaron
Rodgers pops his achilles and it's over. So Rogers is
supposedly healthy. Jets made some great free agent moves. They're
back on track. A lot of the sharpest gamblers will
have one of them on in the third hour. Really
love the Jets. There is a lot of momentum around

(07:25):
the Jets to go to the Super Bowl, perhaps win
the Super Bowl. Well, Rogers took to the podium in
New York yesterday and here's what Aeron Rodgers said.

Speaker 7 (07:34):
As you get older in the league, if you don't perform,
they're gonna get rid of you or bringing the next
guy to take over. I mean it happened in Green Bay.
So and I'm a few years older than I was
back then. Well, I think, if if I don't do
what I know I'm capable of doing, we're all probably going.

Speaker 4 (07:53):
To be out of here. So I like that kind
of pressure.

Speaker 3 (07:55):
Though, anytime I hear I like that kind of pressure.
It reminds me of Stephen Jackson, who I've shared a
dressing room here with at Fox and Steven Jackson had
a great quote, I make love to pressure.

Speaker 6 (08:07):
You know.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
I can't stop thinking about that quote. But regarding what
Rogers said, like, that's not normal quarterback speak. You don't
go to the podium and say, hey, if I don't deliver,
everybody's done, we're all toasted, we're all in the unemployment line.
You don't hear that. And it made me think of
this quote from Sam Altman, the guy who started chat GPT.
Extreme people get extreme results, and undeniably Aaron Rodgers is

(08:31):
an extremist. And that's not a knock to say he's
an extremist. I'm an extremist in some aspects of my life.
I'm sure alex Is Colin I know is, But Rogers
is an extremist. Hey, guys, I'm gonna ponder my future
with the Packers in the NFL. But first I'm gonna
go on a darkness retreat, like that's not normal. He's
an extremist. Okay, you guys know a lot of single

(08:52):
fans out there on the herd, obviously men not women.
But on the first date, you're not supposed to talk
about religion, politics, or exes. Right, Aaron Rodgers is pulling
up to the table. He's talking about all three of them.
He doesn't care when he goes to the podium or
on podcasts, he's talking about religion. He grew up Catholic.

(09:13):
He don't want anything to do with Catholic Now. Aaron
Rodgers talks politics on religious He was nearly the vice
presidential candidate for Bobby Kennedy, who he refers to at
the podium as Bobby like it's his boy, which they
probably are buddies. But he is an extremist. And you
know what I said, Extreme people get extreme results, and
I am of the belief. Rogers comes off the Achilles.

(09:36):
They got the new offensive line. They add Mike Williams
from the Chargers. This offense is gonna make the jump
to light speed. Now stop me if you've heard this before.
The Jets are gonna be pretty damn good, folks. I've
been on the show, I think for two years now,
maybe more, and I've been excited for the Jets every year.
I've tempered expectations only because deep down I know that

(10:00):
says the year this is it. It's happening. Okay, I
know the AFC's loaded, and there's a bunch of people
here in the studio laughing. Jason co on the Jets again.
Listen to Rogers when he's saying this stuff. He really
knows it's all. Everything's on the line. He wants to
be the villain. Aaron Rodgers, throughout his career has thrived

(10:21):
on being the villain. You know, they draft him. Rhett
Farv's hemming and hawing do I stay? Do I go?
And he's getting these little tweaks old man Farv, Folks,
he's tweaking. He's poking the bear. He wanted it, Rogers. Basically,
remember he was supposed to go maybe number one in
the draft, maybe top five. He slides all the way

(10:42):
to twenty. You can read some of the reports from
back in the day when he fell. Since then, massive
chip on his shoulder, okay, and guys who have chips
on the shoulder. I may have a small one. Some
of us do. Cowhard certainly does they thrive on using
that as motivation? Michael Jordan famous, he would like create
these fake scenarios, fake trash talk, fake hate, and then

(11:06):
use it to his advantage. I believe Rogers is using
all this. He knows when he goes on podcasts with
Joe Rogan and company and talks about religion and the vaccine,
he is being an extremist. He wants you loving him
or hating him. We're in an era of tribalism, and
Aaron Rodgers is signaling to his tribe, Yo, I'm over here, guys.

(11:27):
It's like that scene I probably shouldn't reference this a
great movie where a guy goes into prison Edward Norton
Junior of course American History X, and he takes off
his shirt and he's all tatted up with you know
what on his body, and it's a signal instantly to
his crew, Hey, come on over here, come hang with us.
Aaron Rodgers is signaling with these comments, Hey, you're either

(11:47):
with us or you're against us. And I'm sure you
know he's getting word of this. McIntyre. He's against this. No, no, guys,
I'm with you. I'm a fan of the Jets. I'd
love for you to tamp down some of the extremism,
maybe dial back the villain. But if it works for you,
it works for the Jets, it's got to work for me.
And I see alex is wearing her Can I call
that Jets green?

Speaker 5 (12:08):
Don't do not pull me in this category. This is
not Jets green. It's a little more of a sea
foam green foam.

Speaker 9 (12:14):
Wow.

Speaker 3 (12:14):
But I know you're excited.

Speaker 5 (12:17):
Yes, four snaps is your sample size is slow your role.
Let's maybe see an entire game before we get into
oh my gosh, they're going all the way to the
super Bowl. I'm excited for you that there is hope.
Now you know he's healthy, Let's hope he can stay healthy.
But he's old, coming off one of the hardest injuries
to come back from with again, as you said, a

(12:37):
lot of pressure that apparently he thrives off of, and
he's saying he welcomes it and he does better with it. YEA,
Let's see a game. Let's see one full game with
Aaron Rodgers and the Jets.

Speaker 3 (12:46):
And we have a good staff here, and anytime I
talk about the Jets and the excitement. It's Jake. Do
you remember his last season in Green Bay? He was
kind of garbage, not good at all, And I was like, hey, hey,
wait a minute. When they drafted Jordan Love, he would
so angry, thriving off the anger that he was the
VP of the league in back to back here. So
I'm optimistic for the Jets. I really do believe good

(13:08):
things are ahead, and good things are ahead here for
the next three hours. Coming up next, I'll tell you
why you shouldn't worry about the wins and losses. Yeah,
Caitlin Clark lost again last night, don't worry about that
this season. That's next.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noone Eastern not a em Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (13:29):
Oh Ryan Hollins, former NBA center I've done some radio
with him. He is a great interview. He can be combative.
He's a Kyrie Irving fan. What's up, Ryan? How you doing?

Speaker 8 (13:41):
Man?

Speaker 4 (13:42):
What's row Man?

Speaker 3 (13:44):
You can't complain? Life is good. I had the MAVs
last night. They come through. I'm assuming you watch the
game and you're rooting for your guy, Kyrie Irving.

Speaker 8 (13:52):
Huh yeah, absolutely, man, And I couldn't be more happy
for Kyrie. I got a chance to talk to him
when we went over there and played against the Mavericks.
And the one thing that stood out, man, just by
seeing Kyrie and for what I know.

Speaker 4 (14:06):
I had him as rookie year. He's happy and.

Speaker 8 (14:10):
Mark Cuban and Nico and Jake Kidd and those guys,
they've embraced Kyrie. And for him, you know, most of
us ballplayers say, you know, is basketball or nothing? Man,
basketball is everything. Kyrie is like, I want to be happy,
I want to be a good person, I want to
serve my fellow man, and then basketball is just something
I really love and I'm great and I'm good at

(14:31):
And for him, it's the people around him, and he's
been embraced in Dallas.

Speaker 3 (14:36):
Yeah, do you feel like he's a different person. I
know we don't totally know these guys what they're going
through off the court, but it seems like he's had
some rocky stops in Boston, clearly in Brooklyn, and now
he's he's Is this more about him maturing or is
this like the right supporting cast in Dallas in front office.
They've they've got a history with him, they know him well.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
He's embraced his role and knows who he is.

Speaker 8 (15:02):
So when he's looking at Luka Daunted's it's different than
looking at James Harden and Kevin Durant as peers as
equals or Lebron James and saying, hey man, I'm the
guy who hit the big shot Bron. He looks at
Luca and Lucas says, Kyrie, you've been here before, You've
done this, Teach me how to do this.

Speaker 4 (15:19):
PJ.

Speaker 8 (15:20):
Washington and those guys are saying, Kyrie, you're the og
in the room. Okay, what do we need to do better? Defensively?
How do we execute? How do we come through in
these moments? And Kyrie, we heard him last night during
this interview, say hey man, I want to win. I
don't want to go home. You know, I think I've
taken these things for granted. And Kyrie has some of
the it's the good problem have and moments the game

(15:42):
has come too easy for Kyrie.

Speaker 4 (15:44):
So when you're that good, I was never that good.
I knew I had to work hard.

Speaker 8 (15:48):
When you're that good, you have to remember to work hard,
to use your teammates to play in the system.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
So these are all the things that Kyrie's coming around full.

Speaker 8 (15:56):
Circle in his career to take part of, or else
he'll be going home early and he doesn't want to
be a part of that.

Speaker 3 (16:02):
Struggled with Ryan Hollins, Fox Sports Radio, Ryan, we watched
Rudy Gobert really struggle last night and that dropped coverage.
Luca just annihilated him. Listen, I remember Luca was picking
on him back when he was in Utah and the
MAVs knocked him out of the playoffs. I didn't see
anything different. Can Minnesota do anything differently against the Luca
pick and roll? I don't do they blitz Luca? Do they?

(16:24):
I don't know. Maybe go Nas read over Gobert because
he's a little more athletic. We saw Nos trying to
guard him like twenty five feet from the hoop. Gobert
ain't doing that. Any thoughts on how Minnesota can adjust here.

Speaker 8 (16:36):
So remember this is game one and the one thing
this is this is chess Nott checkers, all right, JA,
this is chest not checkers.

Speaker 6 (16:42):
PJ.

Speaker 4 (16:43):
Washington Okay, and Jones Junior.

Speaker 8 (16:46):
They showed you they showed Oklahoma City, if you take
away the LIB, we will hit the three. So now
they're gonna say, we're gonna take away a LIB.

Speaker 4 (16:55):
You guys have to hit the threes.

Speaker 8 (16:56):
And let's see if you're in rhythm, because we kept
you game one out of rhythm and we didn't give
up all those three pointers. I think Dallas only hit
what six or seven three pointers from the entire game, but.

Speaker 4 (17:06):
They got rimmed.

Speaker 8 (17:07):
Then the third adjustment, I think what you're saying is
you're gonna switch. And then this is where Dallas becomes
dangerous because you got go there or nas Reed or
kat Garden who Luca and.

Speaker 4 (17:18):
Kyrie on the perimeter. So that's what makes it dangerous.

Speaker 8 (17:22):
And okay, see was the biggest headache because they could
do what they could go out and switch. They were
able to switch with Dallas. So now you're in a
situation where you have to pick their poison. So to
answer what you're gonna have to say, they're gonna take
away live likely in the next.

Speaker 4 (17:35):
Game, the next adjustment may be a blitz. The next
adjustment is gonna be a switch.

Speaker 8 (17:39):
And these adjustments in the playoffs could come by quarter
by quarter.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
It can't be that detailed in the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (17:47):
I said something on social media that got people ticked off.
I said, I think Luca's got the biggest bag in
NBA history. I mean, you just watch him. He can
beat you with the mid range, the three, the post, off,
the vision is incredible. And I know last round, lou
Dort is a tough matchup, really good defender. He had
no chance against Luca. Foul trouble every game. Jade McDaniels
second team All Defense, he's too skinny. Luca just bodies

(18:09):
him in the post. I don't know how you stop
this guy. I do believe he will be in the
discussion for one of the best players in the history
of the sport. I mean he's twenty five, I believe,
and he's been on like five oll NBA teams, Ryan Luka, Doncic, unstoppable.

Speaker 4 (18:22):
Right, unstoppable. I'll give you that. He may not have
the best bag on his team. Kyrie Irving.

Speaker 8 (18:29):
As far as bag and moves and getting to your spots,
I don't know we take them above Kyrie, but I
do agree with you was special about Luca and I
saw this coming. I don't know how the kid wasn't
the first pick in the NBA draft. And the thing
about Luca is that he does beat you in an
array of different places, and even worse, he does it
in slow motion. He does it with a bad need.

(18:50):
A young bull's gonna be on the injury report every
single night. But he takes his time, and you don't
realize how big he is. So he's a mix of
a Garry Bird and James Harden. He takes his time,
he's in slow motion, he's big, he's gonna trash talk
with you. And when he's rolling, man, he's seemingly literally unstoppable,

(19:10):
because it's not like those small guards that zip past you.
He takes it, takes this time. He puts you in jail.
He gets in that mid range and he can shoot
right over you.

Speaker 3 (19:19):
All right, let's go macro big picture in the league. Now,
obviously the Lakers a huge talking point with their coaching situation.
Where are you on the JJ Redick potential? Higher? This
nonsense that he's maybe the next Pat Ridley. I mean, listen, Hollins,
people are going crazy out here in LA. What are
you hearing?

Speaker 4 (19:39):
I'm all in with JJ Reddick.

Speaker 8 (19:42):
And the reason is we forget you act like Steve
Kurdin do this at a very high level.

Speaker 4 (19:46):
And also, you're not.

Speaker 8 (19:47):
Gonna put JJ Reddick in the situation his first time
as head coach and not has some veteran coaches, some
former head coaches.

Speaker 4 (19:54):
Hey, maybe JB.

Speaker 8 (19:55):
Bickerstaff is the name that maybe could go and join
the Lakers, that can go and teach JJ some of
the little things that he may not know. But the
biggest thing for JJ that I will challenge him on
if he gets the job. Your job is to relate
to the players and even more so replace to your stars.
What's he doing relatable with Lebron James. He's got Lebron's
respect and that we've seen on their podcast, which is

(20:17):
it's a new NBA man, it's a new media, okay,
coaching player everybody running the podcast during the season, you
never know. But at the end of the day, he's
got Lebron's respect and he can call out Lebron and
Lebron responds best when people can do that. The only
other head coach that would be in play in my mind,
would be Tyron lew And if it's not going to
be Tyron Lou I think at this moment, you have

(20:40):
to go with JJ Reddick.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
I play with JJ.

Speaker 8 (20:42):
He knows the game, he's sterrole, and the biggest challenge
for him is to be relatable, connectable, and also being
able to call.

Speaker 4 (20:49):
Guys out in that locker room.

Speaker 8 (20:51):
And when I played with JJ, he had no problems
calling guys out.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Yeah. All right, So listen, this is kind of flowing
under the radar here the last twenty four hours because
the conference finals are happening. But the All NBA teams
were announced and shay Gilgess Alexander made it. He's now
eligible for the Super Max extension. Ryan. I don't know
if you saw this, but per the numbers, SGA is
going to be making eighty one million dollars potentially in

(21:17):
like twenty twenty nine or something. Eighty one million dollars. Okay, listen,
I'm not looking at anybody's pockets. More power to the people.
Get that paper, get that stack that paper. Eighty one
million dollars. What's the perception going to be or does it?
Do you just not? Who cares eighty one mill for SGA?
Who's I don't know. Is he a top five player
in the league. I don't think so. But he's very,

(21:39):
very good. Obviously, Hollins, what are we doing eighty one
mil Hey.

Speaker 4 (21:44):
What do you talk about?

Speaker 8 (21:44):
He was an MVP candidate this year and the one
thing where you want to know what the players think.

Speaker 4 (21:50):
He has league wide respect amongst the players. He's got
the swagger, he brings it and he has a game
to back it up.

Speaker 8 (21:56):
We just got done talking about who Luka Doncis you
put Luke on a player That woman said, Luca is
gonna be one of the best ever, maybe the best
bag you've ever seen. Shay Gilt is Alexander is in
the Luca Doncis conversation for how young he is, his
team's success, they, for God's sake, they're supposed to be
rebuilding right now. He's so good that they were the number.

Speaker 4 (22:17):
One what were they?

Speaker 8 (22:18):
Number one and number two in the Western Conference? So
for Shay Gilt, it's Alexander. I don't think any players
or anybody's gonna have a question about the money that
he's going to be making. You see, he's a young
talent and even more so, Hey, the Clippers are probably
looking at back and saying, man, we traded Shaye away.
As great as Paul George's that looks like an obscene
move to make and sick all your draft capital over there.

(22:41):
So at the end of the day, Shay's deserve it
at that contract. Happy for these guys getting money at mcinty.
Don't you ever questioned money again?

Speaker 4 (22:49):
What's wrong with you?

Speaker 3 (22:50):
So here's the big picture again. I'm happy for Shaye
and everybody, but Ryan, let's be realistic. Okay, the NBA
did not like the Super Team era. They don't like
guys hop been around SGA and Okase, he's not turning
that down to leave and go somewhere else, right, He's
He's definitely gonna stay in Okay. See, so it seems
to me like they're trying to prevent the super teams

(23:12):
from happening. I thought the Super Team arrow was amazing?
Did you not think so?

Speaker 4 (23:17):
Me?

Speaker 8 (23:18):
Personally? I loved it. I like the parody that we
have in the NBA. But again, you cannot cry about
things going on. And I want to throw this out
as you talk about Super Team. Look, man, Oklahoma City,
they're playing Sam Persley's the goat right now. For what
he's doing, it's like they're playing NBA two K. When
you go out and you juice your teams and you
get everybody. What if they went out and they got

(23:40):
Paul George, they went in acquired of Paul George. Hey,
what if Kevin Durant wants to get is Lebron james
On It says, man, I got a shot to go
to Oklahoma.

Speaker 4 (23:49):
City and win.

Speaker 8 (23:50):
So okay See is poised to put together a superteam.
I love their culture that they built. And when you
win a championship, it's not just the stars. You gotta
have a star culture. Oklahoma City has culture right now.
They got young stars. Everybody who's going into into that
system is eating, they're playing well, they're developing, and even
more so, they're having fun. And the one thing I

(24:12):
love about Shane and I got to cover him his
rookie year with the Clippers, is he is a down
to earth. He's the same guy and even with the money,
you're not fearful as an organization that he's going to
just devour the room with all of his success. He's
the same guy and he has embraced his teammates and
the culture there in ok See and it may really
be a desirable place to play.

Speaker 4 (24:32):
So hey, man, I wouldn't be mad if Katie made
that move. I wouldn't be.

Speaker 8 (24:35):
Mad if Paul George said, Hey man, they treated me
right and okay see, I wouldn't mind going back there.

Speaker 3 (24:41):
Oh come on, Ryan Hollinds, it look at you dropping
bombs on the way out the door, so I can't respond.
Catch Ryan Hollands Sundays with Mike harmon Fox Sports Radio

holiday weekend, man.

host of the number one rated Paully and Toni Fusco show.
We get tons and tons of fan mail every day.

Speaker 3 (25:05):
Piles of it.

Speaker 9 (25:06):
In fact, Tony, why don't you open up one of
those letters right now and read what's inside?

Speaker 10 (25:10):
O heay, listen to this. Dear Paulie and Tony, your
sports takes the dumbest and most terrible that Wait one,
Dear Pauli and Toni, you suck more than anyone. Wait,
Dear Paulie and Tony, you guys are the absolute best.
There you go coming up with the stupidest take forget Just.

Speaker 9 (25:31):
Listen to and Toni Fusco show on the iHeartRadio app,
Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 3 (25:37):
You know, the lists on the internet are a big deal, okay,
I you know, I had started a little website. It
did okay, sold, it didn't make retirement money. But lists
we're a big driving force behind my website. We also
did a lot of sports media talk and Colin Coward
blew it up one day. But lists are really the

(25:58):
lifeblood of the Internet. Everybody loves to click on a
list and see where players rank. Okay, so Bill Simmons,
a sports media person, has a website called The Ringer,
and they put out a list of the top twenty
five NBA players under the age of twenty five. Okay,
number one, Victor one Minyama. I can't totally hate that.

(26:20):
He is the future of the league. Everybody gets that.
But look what they did at two and three Anthony
Edwards and Shay Gilders. Alexander really over Luka Doncic, Who's
accomplished more than those two guys combined. It's insanity. Now
I get it. You want to really pump up the
American players because we're in the era of the Europeans.

(26:40):
Who cares, guys, Come on, that's so disrespectful to Luka Doncic. Now, interestingly,
not even on that list is Ja Morant. Zion Williamson's buried.
Those two guys were supposed to be the future they
supposedly had next. Now, what I did before this list
was mostly it was pushed back against Colin who has
a distaste for my guy, Jason Tatum. Now you guys know,

(27:03):
I was born in New York. I grew up disliking
all things Boston hated, hated Capitol h hated the Red Sox. Okay,
I didn't even see that dumb Boston Red Sox movie
with Drew barrymore Fever Pitch. Have you guys heard of that?
I refused to even watch it just because it was
about the Red Sox. Sorry, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon
did not like the Patriots, but I respected Brady obviously

(27:26):
not really did not like the Boston Celtics in any capacity.
For a weird I don't know why I feel an
affinity for Jason Tatum. Not like my men's league game.
We got a game tonight, is anything like Tatum's, but
I love me some Jason Tatum. I've had a lot
of Laker fans think he's a huge Kobe fan. He's
gonna eventually come to the Lakers. We'll see. So what

(27:47):
I did was, I said, here are the five players
in the NBA I would build around. Right now. There's
only five and the list is tight. Okay, here we go,
knowing that Steph Curry you're not built around at this age,
Lebron kd they're out. Okay, here are my five to
build around right now. I have Luka Doncic, who I
think is the ultimate. He makes everyone else better in

(28:09):
the same way Lebron has Giannis. Obviously he has a chip,
He's a unicorn. You build around him. I have Jason
Tatum on this list, Folks. Our staff came up with
some numbers that are just staggering for what he's accomplished
so far in his career. More than Jordan at this age,
more than Lebron at this age. Jason Tatum has had
so much playoff success and he's been the alpha on

(28:31):
that team. You can build around him and win a
title with him. I have Webben Yama. Obviously, he's a
Unicorn and I have Jokic three MVPs. He's got a title.
Now you'll see on this list is not Anthony Edwards.
And people at Jay You're crazy. Oh my god. Anthony
Edwards is the next Jordan. Maybe maybe his team comes
back and wins the Western Conference finals and win the title,

(28:52):
and I've got to redo this list. But Anthony Edwards
has twenty three games in his playoff career so far,
he's won two in his career, and we're building around him.
He looks like a star. He's got all the tools.
He's got the riz as the kids like to say, right,
he's got the swag, and a lot of it has
to do with how do you how are you perceived

(29:13):
by fans? And I'm telling you Anthony Edwards talking trash
to Kevin Durant in the first round, that's a viral moment.
Anthony Edwards dropping curse words in press conferences. People love that.
Anthony Edwards has it. He's got that quality that people love.
Can you build around him? I don't know. He's got
a great team, right, They've got the role players who
fit perfectly. But I don't have Anthony Edwards is the

(29:36):
top five guy build around Shay Gilds Alexander. Sorry, I'm
not taking a guard who's awesome in the mid range
as my build around guy. I think he could be
a great two. I don't think he's a one.
