Speaker 2 (00:22):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
Covering the NBA since the early nineties. Rick Buker Fox Sports.
He'll be on Speak today at four thirty eastern. Piece
of video last night after the game. Yeah, So I've
said for years my Wednesday press conference for NFL quarterbacks
with a big bank sponsor, turn your hat around. I
don't care if you're in your garage cleaning it. I
don't care about corners, YEP linebackers that Wednesday pressure.
Speaker 3 (00:47):
I think I was the last we had this discussion
last time I was here.
Speaker 1 (00:50):
Yeah, so optics matter. Last night after the win, Lucas
having a cold one yes, and the assistant GM of
the MAVs, Michael Finley, watched this move here.
Speaker 3 (01:01):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
He takes the beer from him, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:05):
And then and then shakes hands with the dad like, yeah,
what's going on?
Speaker 1 (01:08):
There?
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Were collectively, So I think there's a couple of things here. One,
Luke is known as somewhat of an in biber right,
and he's in the best shape that we've seen him.
So I wonder whether it's like, hey, we're not like, no,
we're not doing this. And there was a time back
when I first started covering the league, Tim Hardaway Senior
(01:29):
had bad knees and he would take a plastic cup
and he would pour two beers in it, and we
knew to wait until he was halfway through the plastic
cup to go interview him because the things were going
to be a lot a lot choicer than they would
be when he was stone cold sober. There's obviously the
(01:49):
commercial aspect for the NBA. They don't want any brands
out there potentially being advertised. I'm sure that Mike saw
that the cameras were there. But I also think it's
just a matter of hey, like, we're going to have
a certain amount of protocol here where we're not drinking
beer after the Western Conference finals. We'll wait until we
(02:10):
have champagne after the finals. But I just I love
that you brought that video up because I've been thinking
about it ever since I saw it. The look on
Lucas's face like Luca just owned owned this Western Conference Finals,
and he looks like the little kid who just got
caught with his hand in the cookie jar.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Charles Barkley leaned Celtics over the MAVs. Here's Charles last night.
Speaker 4 (02:35):
Well, I still haven't seen anything to make me think
except is not going to win the championship.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
You've always kind of hedged that with this. If poor
Zingis does play or doesn't play.
Speaker 4 (02:46):
What if he doesn't play, what if Zos doesn't That's
a great question, Kenneth, Thanks, I asked him. Good point, Ernie.
We got another week. I still like the Celtics.
Speaker 2 (03:00):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (03:09):
They'll get pick and roll to death if Porzingis doesn't play.
But in a weird way, the best news for the
Celtics is they have time off, and the worst news
for the Celtics.
Speaker 3 (03:18):
Yes, because obviously Kristaps has more time to get ready,
but it's also more time where he's not playing in
a game we saw with Joel Embiid. You can come
back and play, but you haven't been playing at playoff
level intensity and for you to have to pair a
shoot into that that can be a challenge for you
and how you're integrated with your team. I think the
(03:40):
time off benefits Dallas much much more because Luca does
need to get healthy, but he's been playing at an
absolutely high level. And there's you know, over the course
of this next week, who are we going to focus on?
Anything we focus on with the Dallas Mavericks are going
to be posit it of stories. What a story, the
(04:01):
relationships and all of that and Derek Lively and on
and on and on and everything. With Boston it's going
to be And in fact, I'm I'm going to write
one where I talked to my sources around the league
about why is it so hard to believe in the
Boston Celtics, and executive scouts and gms will give you
very credible reasons why the way they're constructed what they
(04:25):
have makes them hard to buy into. One of them
being that they really don't have. You know, we complain
a lot about how many threes they shoot. It's because
they don't really have an inside game like they don't,
especially without porzingis and so Porzingis is the X factor.
By the way, Charles pick Minnesota to win that series
(04:49):
going away, So I don't know that you necessarily go
with what he's got. I'm a big believer in the Maps.
I thought you were on fire earlier when you talked
about all the reasons why the MAVs should be seen
as being in the driver's seat going into this series
because they've had to play at such a high level.
I still don't know who Boston is. I don't know.
Speaker 1 (05:12):
How good they are going into the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (05:14):
Yes, and I still don't know that. And it's not
their fault. It's just based on who they've played. But
you look at who Dallas has had to go through.
Oklahoma City Thunder, the number one team in the Western Conferience.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
Oldest team, the youngest team, the biggest team.
Speaker 3 (05:28):
Yeah, and teams that had defensively had the type of
wings and defenders that you would think would give Dallas
a problem, and they haven't given anybody a problem. The
Minnesota Timberwolves knocked out the defending champions in seven games,
and the Dallas Mavericks messed around and it took them
five games to take Minnesota out, and looked like they
(05:50):
had no problem in spite of the fact that Jade
McDaniels is an All defensive player, second team All Defensive player,
Anthony Edwards outstanding as a defender when he wants to
be rim protection that the Boston Celtics don't have. Like,
I just look at what the Dallas Mavericks have done
to this point and how they are playing right now,
(06:14):
and it's very visceral compared to Boston. Now, Boston may
get Kristaps back, and they may suddenly if they elevate
to another level from what I've seen, Yeah, then then
I would change my mind. But as of right now,
going into the series, I like Dallas in six.
Speaker 1 (06:31):
Yeah. No, it doesn't. Jay Mack and I have talked
about this. There are huge advantages if I just told
you one thing about the series. If I just said
Dallas wins Game one, yeah, everybody would go ho ho.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:44):
If I said Boston wins game one, doesn't mean anything. Yeah,
So like, it isn't really really imperative that Boston starts
well yep, And you're asking a lot poor singers hasn't played,
they haven't been great at home. The pressures all on
Boston I said this the other day. That is Boston
to collaborative. It sounds better in this world we live in. Yes,
(07:07):
four day work week, toxic masculinity. These are bad things, Yeah,
but it's what wins sports, like give me the ball,
get out of the way, selfish, the coach that screams.
It works for sports. It may not work at your workplace.
It works in sports. Volume, intensity, calling guys out. Dallas,
(07:31):
Luca Is he got a sing and a beer five
minutes after that game in his Gulf Stream home. There's
something about Dallas. I'm like, that is old school star basketball,
and I feel like Boston is. It's it's collaborative, it's coachable,
amenable to change.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
They're nice guys, nice guys. They're nice guys.
Speaker 1 (07:53):
And Luca's like the beer, the beer vendors, gretty, I
like Kyrie controversy. I like it right, Uh yeah, no, no, no, no,
I I.
Speaker 3 (08:05):
Agree with you. There is there's value in having a
balanced team, but you still have to have a hierarchy.
Speaker 1 (08:13):
Doesn't that matter more in the regular season?
Speaker 3 (08:15):
It's well, and here here's the other part. Is we
now because we have there's so much exposure, we have
so much access to teams and players, and at least
as far as seeing how they operate, in their personalities,
in the chemistry, and how everybody interacts because the cameras
(08:35):
and the microphones are everywhere, and so then we begin
to apply normal, the everyday world dynamics to the sports world.
It doesn't work that way when people are offended because
you pull the curtain back and they're like, oh, what,
you can't do that. I was like, no, no, no, that's
the way.
Speaker 1 (08:55):
Sports Clark almost comes to blows like two nights ago
in their face, like sports has standings, salary caps yelling.
Speaker 3 (09:05):
My great my great issue with the Minnesota Timberwolves actually
was the fact that Rudy Gobert was getting punked and
that none of the Minnesota Timberwolves went back at the
Dallas Mavericks when Luka Doncic is looking at my bench
and mocking my big man, we're going to blows. I'm
finding a way, he's getting a hard foul I'm taking.
(09:27):
They left it all to Rudy Gobert to defend himself.
That's not leadership to me, that's not that's not being
a teammate. And I think in the real world we'd
be like, oh, like, you can't sport. You can't tick
a fight with the person in the next cubicle because
you know they didn't refill the coffee.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
Like, I feel like Boston is very twenty twenty four basketball.
It's got a little international, it's very collaborative. There's no alpha.
You take it, No, I'll take it. You take it.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Dallas is like, hey, give Luka the ball. I'm gonna
figure it out. And it's gonna be uncomfortable, and he's
gonna talk trash and he's gonna get in your face
and he's gonna mock your star and he's gonna and
I'm like, there is something in the biggest games.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:06):
We were talking about this the other day, is that
Mahomes doesn't have to play great, but there is a
just with Steph Curry which you covered for years. Just
just give me the ball. Yeah, I'm gonna figure it out.
Speaker 4 (10:16):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:16):
And Luca's got that and Jason Tatum's not his personality.
Speaker 4 (10:19):
You know.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
It's it's in thinking about it. I feel as if
Boston has the most to prove, and yet I feel
like Luka Doncich feels he has the most to prove.
Like it doesn't feel like Boston is. Oh we got
to show you, yo, you doubt us, Luca, and you
made this point earlier, which I think is right on
the money, Like he's got that. Michael Jordan once said it.
(10:42):
He said, I play the way I play every night
because there might be somebody out there who's never seen
me play, and I want to prove to them that
I'm not the that I'm the best player in the game.
I'm not gonna tell you I'm the best player in
the game. I'm gonna show you that I'm the best
player in the game. Yeah, that's Luka Donsis. Every night
(11:02):
he wants he feels like, Oh, you don't think, let
me show you Americans.
Speaker 1 (11:08):
I kind of like my athletes, not my co workers.
I like my athletes to be easily offended. Yeah, yeah,
I like him to get all.
Speaker 3 (11:18):
I want him to have a chip on their shoulder.
Speaker 2 (11:19):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
Absolutely want co workers to have it. But I like
my athletes too.
Speaker 3 (11:23):
Yeah, coworkers can be a problem.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
Rick speak today. Finally, I said this in the NFL,
you had one in the Bay Area, Jim tom Sula.
If you're a coach, you get exposed very quickly. In
pro football, like in Weeks, it could just like this
doesn't work at all in the NBA, it's a little
bit more managing, connecting with your top player, finding a rotation.
(11:49):
You know Doc Rivers famously in Boston when he had
the old guys. It's like you in the first game
of the Roadie. We don't practice until you lose a
game like you just show up for the games like
That's that's very effective. So I think JJ Reddick is
getting buy in from Lebron smart enough to manage the rotation.
I don't think it's a gigantic lift. They're not going
(12:10):
to give him a one and done because they just
bailed on Darvin Ham. If he gets the job, what
does it look like to you in terms of what
I mean? Do you think it's bumpy? Is it turbulent?
Does ad buy in? What are they adding?
Speaker 3 (12:24):
Chris Paul? I hope they had, just because I think
it's going to be I think it's it's going to
be fractious. Now. A big part of what's going on
right now is what I'm hearing is the kind of
decided they'd like to hire JJ. That's the direction they'd
like to go. They're interviewing all the James Bregos and
(12:44):
those guys because they need to build the right staff,
because they need to be able to handle the in
and out the details that JJ has only seen from
the view of a player and doesn't know half of
what goes on beyond that because he's going home or
he's going working out. He doesn't know all the stuff
(13:06):
that a coach does just to run a staff and
then all the ancillary stuff. So there's that, so you
want to have some assistance. The challenge is going to
be can you get former head coaches who are willing
to basically be JJ's caddies in LA Are they willing
to take that particular role? The problem is like, do
(13:30):
I think it's going to be smooth? I think there's
going to be growing pains, okay, And the biggest problem
is where the expectations are, Like this team going to
the playoffs wasn't good enough, So it's going to be
judged on a night in and night out basis, and
the microscope is going to be there in terms of
(13:52):
how every relationship works, and there are plenty of guys
there that don't have the relationship with him that Lebron does.
So how is he going to manage all that? And
because everybody knows that is, or at least the perception
is that his relationship is so close with Lebron, how's
that going to play with guys who don't think they're
(14:14):
being treated the way they should be treated. That's that's
where I think it's going to be. Why I said
it was, you know, one of the most comical things
that that we're going to see. I just think it's
going to be wildly entertaining more than anything. I don't
I don't want to mock JJ or or that group.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
But.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Like you're you're asking a guy who's never done it
before to go above and beyond expectations that are unrealistic.
People around the league said, that's the biggest problem with
the job is that you're there's a lot of glamour,
there's a lot of attention, but right now you're being
asked to do something that is unrealistic with that roster,
(14:57):
and the blame is going to be on you, you
because of the names on the roster. If you don't
realize those unrealistic expectations.
Speaker 1 (15:07):
Rick Buker on Speak Today good stuff as all as
my man j Mack with the news.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
This is the herd Line News.
Speaker 5 (15:17):
Start with the Dallas Cowboys, Colin still waiting for three
of their major horses to sign long term deals, Dak Prescott,
Ceedee Lamb, Michael Parsons. According to a Cowboys insider, Dallas
is likely to prioritize CD Lambs deal ahead of Dak
and Parsons, with excuse me, MICA's contract likely being put
on the backburner. Colin, what prioritizing a wide receiver?
Speaker 1 (15:42):
Yeah, that they should, Oh, because their takeaway if they
don't retain Dak, they have a number one wide receiver.
Speaker 5 (15:50):
Oh wow, Vikings kept Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
What does that mean?
Speaker 5 (15:54):
You're not going anywhere with just Justin Jefferson.
Speaker 1 (15:56):
Well, but the question with Dallas is if we retain
see D Lamb and we move off Dak, we don't
have a total rebuild on offense. We've got our guy
on the perimeter. Whereas if you worry about Micah and
then the Dak thing gets really contentious and you wonder
if you can sign CD and that go, you don't
want to bring in another quarterback and you have literally
(16:16):
Carolina Panthers offensive weapons because they don't have a top
running back. They're not great at tight end. The O
line's good, it's not special. So you're trying doing an
offensive league. If you're asking me Dak, Micah or CD,
I would probably say I would get and I'm usually
a quarterback guy. I would say I'd lock up CD first,
then I would go Micah second.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
That flies in the face of your whole left tackle, quarterback,
ed rusher, wide receivers not on the list.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
No, no, no, they are. No. I've always said quarterback, left tackle,
edge rusher, weapon. Oh okay weapon. Yeah, So I'm not
I don't want to pay I mean, I Miami's doing
this a little bit. They're paying the perimeter and they're
gonna say, Tua, We've only got so much to spend.
I mean, you don't want us to pay a fifty
and have no O line. So like we're gonna take
care of CD and Mica. So Dad, I mean you
(17:04):
made a lot of money, Dak. I mean we don't
have room to pay three guys the entire salary cap.
Speaker 5 (17:08):
So Cde Lamb probably is gonna want more than Amarase
Brown and AJ Braden. He's gonna want to be the
highest paper receiver.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Well, he's not. He's not a top three receiver. He's good,
he's not that well.
Speaker 5 (17:19):
Amarase Brown is not a top three receiver.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
Very very good, excellent route runner.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
Anyways, our staff came up with a stat I'm sorry,
Dak Prescott. No quarterback has ever won a Super Bowl
with their draft team after failing to start in a
conference championship game through their first eight seasons, like Stafford
in Detroit, for instance, ended up going to Super Bowl
with his second team.
Speaker 1 (17:41):
Say it again, Say it again.
Speaker 5 (17:42):
So, no quarterback has ever won a Super Bowl with
the team that drafted them after they failed to start
in a conference championship game through their first eight seasons.
So basically a lot of failure coming up.
Speaker 1 (17:53):
Short, Yeah, you do. You know who you have fairly
early in this league and by the first eight years,
if you're not getting the conference championship, your quarterback's not
good enough and he's probably too expensive.
Speaker 5 (18:02):
But guys who went elsewhere did it. Weisman, Plunket, Steve Young,
Brad Johnson, and Stafford of course, so it can be done,
just probably not with the team that drafted you. Next up, now,
this is I was stunned when I heard this, so
Ben Johnson took to the press press conference this week.
He was obviously one of the hottest names floating around
the coaching circuit this offseason. He was asked why he
(18:25):
chose to stick around in Detroit for a second straight season. Remember,
there were like eight coaching openings. Here's what Ben Johnson
had to say.
Speaker 6 (18:34):
Something that really resonates with me, is okay, eight openings
this past year. What would you set the over under
in three years, how many still have jobs?
Speaker 3 (18:48):
Agree?
Speaker 6 (18:49):
Yeah, I've put the over under four and a half.
I would say I'd say there's a good chance five
of them are out of jobs in three years. I
think when it boils down to it, I wanted to
sunch shine a little bit longer. You know, That's really
what it comes down to for me. I want I
like the sunshine. I like I like what we've built here,
starting with ownership, the head coach, the GM on down.
(19:12):
We have a great group of guys in the locker room,
and uh, I want to reap the rewards with them
a little bit longer.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
That is some I don't think I've ever heard someone say, Hey,
five of those guys that got Hiredy're probably gonna get dusted.
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Well, he's right. And the other thing is no is
a very powerful word. People rarely use it. No, thank you,
not interested, not good enough? No is powerful. Yes isn't
People say yes all day? People don't say no two
offers very often.
Speaker 5 (19:42):
All right, Let let me go through a couple of teams.
New England Patriots Mayo. Do you think he'll last more
than three years?
Speaker 1 (19:48):
Yes, Gerro Mayo really, Craft will be real loyal.
Speaker 5 (19:54):
Tennessee Titans have a new head coach. Do you think
he's gonna last?
Speaker 1 (20:00):
Got a shot? If will love us can play?
Speaker 5 (20:03):
Wow, you're being bullish. Ben Johnson totally disagree with you.
Washington Commanders have a new head coach. They got a
new quarterback, a lot of newness.
Speaker 1 (20:11):
Yeah, I think he'll make it.
Speaker 5 (20:12):
Carolina, we'll see.
Speaker 1 (20:14):
Very aussive owner. Yeah, I like panics.
Speaker 5 (20:19):
I say, yeah, huh, so you think the opposite of
Ben Johnson. Some of these guys are gonna be.
Speaker 1 (20:25):
Ben Johnson is accurate historically, but I mostly but I
think I tend to be more optimistic on coaches. I
think the guy in Seattle's gonna last. But you know,
I'm optimistic about all these quarterbacks' just so positive. The
well that's probably called me around my neighborhood.
Speaker 5 (20:43):
Optimistic, calorid All right, final story, Warriors fans, you're not
gonna like to hear this. The Athletic is reporting that
the Warriors and Klay Thompson have not moved closer to
an extension, and he's moving towards testing free agency. Clay's
potential suitors, according to the Athletic, include the Magic who
have a lot of money, the seventy six Ers, who
have even more money, and the Thunder, which is extremely curious.
(21:06):
Adding to that report, the Warriors apparently they're open to
a major roster shake up and they are interested in
Jimmy Butler if the Heat make him available. I don't
see that happening. But Clay Thompson and the Worriors. Is
this Clay Basically, he's been negotiating with the Warriors. He's
not getting close to the number he likes. So then
his team puts out this report. Hey, I'm going to
(21:27):
test the waters. Everybody, just so you know.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
Clay, go ahead test him. You're playing hard, come back
in your in your swim trunks, go ahead test the waters.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
Orlando's lovely In December.
Speaker 1 (21:40):
I think he's a great fit in Orlando for the
right number. I'm not paying him again a golden state.
Nothing against him, I just he'd been.
Speaker 5 (21:46):
Paying at the young kid who You were right about Pods,
I think really good.
Speaker 1 (21:50):
I think Pods is excellent. I think they drafted Clay's replacement.
Speaker 5 (21:54):
You think there's a market for Clay out there?
Speaker 1 (21:56):
Yes, I think the Pods drafting was intentional. They want
to be nice about it, make the exit comfortable, but
it was intense.
Speaker 5 (22:04):
Exits are never.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
Comfortable, depends on who's calling the exit. Jmacker the news.
Speaker 2 (22:10):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by. The

Speaker 1 (22:52):
NBA Finals are set Dallas, Mavericks, Boston Celtics. We do
this every Friday, our last segment. It's called Tomorrow's Headline Today,
where j Mack, the former newspaper inkstain Retch builds these
headlines that draw crowds, clickbaiting crowds with hot takes, and
sometimes mostly they're accurate. So here we go Tomorrow's Headlines Today.
(23:14):
What's the headlines for the NBA Finals.
Speaker 3 (23:18):
In Staine Retch.
Speaker 5 (23:19):
Isn't that a great phrase? So good? All right, Math Celtics.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
I'm fired up.
Speaker 5 (23:23):
It's a tough one to pick, but the pick is
in the headline will be Maverick rolled, Luca not gonna
give it up, Tatum will let you down. I didn't
mean to do that to Tatum. I had to, but
I'm going with Dallas. It's official. I'll take Dallas and six.
I think Rick might had Dallas in five or six.
I just I'm a believer. Like they don't have home
(23:46):
court advantage.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
They win.
Speaker 5 (23:47):
They play a great defensive team, they win, play a
good offensive team, they win. They play Paul George they dominate.
I don't see Boston stopping Luca and Kyrie. Now Boston
has the guys. I just think Luca and Kyrie are
too good. I'm I'm mostly curious what happens with a
Lively Gafford situation. Remember they were pivotal keeping Aunt out
of the lane. Boston just wants to shoot threes. In
(24:08):
their last meeting, Boston made twenty one to three pointers.
They just went five out and were just splashing and
Dallas struggled to guard him. That could be a thing
that could happen again. But I'm gonna go with Luca.
Luca to win the MVP is still plus money for now.
I think Tatum's minus money but I'll go with Dallas Mavericks.
Speaker 1 (24:24):
All right, tomorrow's headlines today, so good you get out
of the fish wrap business. MVP of the finals.
Speaker 5 (24:34):
You know Tatum is minus money like he's the favorite.
Jalen Brown is close, Kyrie is a little bit down.
The headline will be fresh Prince of Belstair, Lucas in
her new neighborhood. Now listen, he's made this a thing.
Right at the foul line, looking at Anthony Edwards, Devin
Booker famously when they were up a million in Phoenix. Luka,
(24:54):
Doncicch is on another level now, and I will admit
I was a little early on this. Everybody loved Yokich,
everybody loved him. Bead this. This is still a wing league, Cullin,
he can do everything. He has the vision of magic Johnson.
I think his passing ability is unsurpassed. I know people
like Jokic is passing better. No, it's it's Luca and
the three. He was hitting a Logo three in the
first quarter, just bag. I mean, I felt like his
(25:15):
first four or five threes were all net in a
pivotal game on the road. Tough spot, Luca. He's the
best player in the NBA.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Guys. Tomorrow's headlines Today we shift to the NFL Steelers quarterback,
who is a week.
Speaker 5 (25:28):
One, So some quarterback drama around the league. Not a
ton but it's always fun. Will start in Pittsburgh. The
headline will be Fields, wake me up when September ends.
I think by October, Justin Fields honestly is going to
be in play for Pittsburgh. Wow, Colin out, I'm off Russ.
(25:48):
I know he's your guy, and some people think I
look like him sometimes. I just the way it ended
in Seattle, the Sean Payton clunkiness, the Nat Hackett disaster.
Like it's been a rough go for Russell Wilson. You
and I would understand if his confidence was maybe shattered
a little bit. Yeah, this is his last chance. His coach,
Mike Tomlin, probably in his final year. They trade away
(26:10):
Deontay Johnson, the team's best route runner. Like I like
Pickens a lot, it doesn't his skill set does not
mesh with what the new OC wants to do. Smith's
heat that for passing is middle of the field. Russ
doesn't do that. He throws deep down the sidelines, wants
the bomb. I don't think it goes well for Russ.
I think Fields comes in in October.
Speaker 1 (26:30):
Tomorrow's headlines today the talentless former Dynasty, New England. What's
the headline Week one?
Speaker 5 (26:36):
Well, they're in the division with the Jets, so this
will be starky. The headline in New England will be
hold the may Oh Pats don't reveal secret sauce. Listen
right now. He's third on the depth chart, behind Brissette
and Bailey.
Speaker 1 (26:50):
Drake mcty third.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
That's not good. Now, I was a big fan of
Drake May coming out. I thought he had a lot
of potential. I mean, you look at the skill position
players and you bag on him for all there is
nothing there, and there's already offensive line injuries. We know
the defense is not gonna be as good without Belichick, Colin.
There's a world where this is like a two, three,
four win team. I don't wish this on Drake May.
I don't. If I'm May, I don't. I mean, listen,
(27:14):
he's gonna see other rookies start. I don't think he's
gonna want to start when they have no weapons, there's
nothing there, and the OC situations like, oh what do
we got? So I think it's a good thing that
May's sitting to start third string. Though, imagine him holding
a clipboard, not even dressed in Week one.
Speaker 1 (27:29):
I think the Patriots will have the first or second
pick next year. Tomorrow's headlines today, I think a team
that's got more talented people think Broncos, who's their quarterback?
In Week one?
Speaker 5 (27:38):
Well, Vegas disagrees with you, but uh, Sean Payton seems
to like this guy a lot. He's made it clear.
The headline in Denver will be Nicks. Don't lie. Zach
didn't know Bo could play like this. A little Shakira
for you on a Friday. Listen, bo Nix's this guy
he can't stop talking about. Soon their coach is not
(27:58):
even talking about their quarterback. It's all about bo Nix.
It's almost as if he's trying to like pump him up,
get the confidence going, like, Hey, you're our starter. I'm
optimistic for Nicks. I'm rooting for me. He came and
sat here on the couch. Seems like a nice kid.
It's an uphill climb. There's a reason this is one
of the lowest win totals in the league. Collin I
don't love it. Nicks is going to be the starter,
(28:20):
Judy now gone. There's just not a ton of talent
offensive line, is meh? Sean Payne's got his work cut out.
Speaker 1 (28:28):
Tomorrow's headlines today, Minnesota Vikings, you have everything except a quarterback, right.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Well, they got two, and you know what they say,
when you have two, you have none. The headline in
Minnesota will be Donald Timer McCarthy told to respect his elders. Listen,
JJ McCarthy, I haven't heard anything about.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
Him, have you nothing?
Speaker 5 (28:47):
Coaching staff is mum. I think they probably nabbed Darnald
early because they figured he'll be the guy. He'll be
our bridge. We're drafting twelve. We're not going to trade up.
I think McCarthy starts on the bench.
Speaker 1 (28:58):
I think you're right, and I think if you look
at the NFL draft previews, the top guys, the top
scouts felt he was a work in progress.
Speaker 6 (29:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (29:07):
Finally, tomorrow's headlines today Giants quarterback Week one.
Speaker 5 (29:13):
We had to get him in seven headlines, a new record.
The Giants, though, are not good. The headline will be
Locktoberfest canceled, Drew muth wake till later. Drew Lock is
not gonna win his starting job. Okay, they're trying to
hype in light a fire under Daniel Jones. I know
you want to go to Octoberfest badly, listen, man, Drew
(29:33):
Lock is not a starting quarterback in the NFL, and
if he's starting for the Giants, you're hurtling towards disaster.
Dable will stick with Daniel Jones.
Speaker 1 (29:40):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (29:41):
There's a bunch of video circulating today about Jalen Hyatt,
the young kid out of I believe Tennessee looking good
target for Daniel Jones. Everybody's all excited. Listen, Daniel Jones
is not a good quot. We would agree on that,
right right, And Drew Lock's even worse. So good luck
to your giants at five to six win teams.
Speaker 1 (29:58):
My guess is I I had to guess today. Patriots
have the number one pick next year. Giants in Carolina
and New Orleans. I think New Orleans is going to
slide into the best. Raiders won't be good either, huh.
Speaker 5 (30:12):
Be careful with Carolina.
Speaker 1 (30:14):
I just don't know you've said that that out there.
I try not to be careful. Not a careful guy.
All right, what a fun week of shows. We had
fun fun week. Don't forget Danny Parkins on our show earlier.
Will join Nick and the guys on First Things First
after our show, talented young guy, have a great weekend.
