Speaker 2 (00:22):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Rick Buker covering the NBA since ninety three, and you've
covered a lot of championship teams. We talked about it earlier.
Is this the You know, there have been teams that
weren't dynastic, but they were for a year. The Lakers
with Wilt Jerry West, the Moses Malone added to Doctor
J and the Sixers like they're not all time great teams,

(00:49):
but for a year there were magic. Is that what
the Celtics feel like?

Speaker 3 (00:54):
That that's what they feel like to me? And there
were some sacrilegious things said earlier on.

Speaker 4 (00:59):
The show.

Speaker 3 (01:01):
About what about this Boston Celtics team being comparable to
the Larry Bird Boston.

Speaker 1 (01:07):
Celtics not even close?

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Not even come on now, the I mean for what
these Boston Celtics, the boat those Boston Celtics had to
go through two sixty win teams at one point in
the Eastern Conference, they have to go through the Philadelphia
seventy six ers with Doctor j and that whole legion
Moses Malone, that whole legion of of of players the
Lakers in their heyday, Like who not that again?

Speaker 1 (01:33):
This this is not danguably the best Celtic team ever.
That Bill Walton team one hundred percent, that may be
the best hundred percent Bill.

Speaker 3 (01:40):
Walton, former MV League MVP coming off the bench, Come
on now, compared.

Speaker 2 (01:46):
To what.

Speaker 4 (01:48):
There's That's it.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
That's the distinction for me with the Celtics team. If
you love team basketball, if you love the collective, this team, yes,
right uh for the same reason that I love the
oh for Troy Pistons when they knocked off the Los
Angeles Lakers. Yeah, no iconic player, no all time transcendent superstar,
but they all understood their role and they made the

(02:12):
most of it. That's what I see with this Boston
Celtics team. And You've made a lot of great points
over the course of the show about like could they repeat,
Sure they could repeat, but look Al Horford coming up
on forty years old, right, Kristaps porzingis, you have no
idea what he haves to have surgery, don't know what

(02:34):
he's going to be going forward with whether you can
sustain it. And that's your front line. So while I
love the foursome of Derek White, Drew Holliday, Jason Tatum,
and Jalen Brown, and that is going to make you
a contender right there, they have no front line and size,
whether it's with the Philadelphia seventy six ers or any
number of teams that are not the Dallas Mavericks in

(02:55):
the Western Conference could easily get.

Speaker 4 (02:57):
In your way.

Speaker 1 (02:58):
Yeah, good general manager will tell you by their signings
what they think of their stars. So Michael Jordan's the
best player right ever, but they made Jerry Krause made
sure that he always had somebody that could hit long discan.
Michael wasn't a great didn't have great range. He was
a great player. So a coup coach, a Kerr, a Packson.
So Jerry Krause was saying, this is the one thing,

(03:20):
Michael isn't great at Scott He's not shooting range well.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
And you don't want him there.

Speaker 3 (03:25):
You want him in the heart of things, operating and
floor spacers.

Speaker 1 (03:31):
The Warriors was Steph Curry always made sure there was
you know KD was a willing defender, Andre Clay, sure Drake.
We know Steph's not a great defender. People will attack him.
Brad Stevens of the Celtics was telling you, I've tried this,
I've coached him and I've gmmed him this Tatum Layton
game dependency, and he just doesn't embrace it all the time.

(03:55):
So I'm gonna give you a poor Zingis and Drew Holliday.
When Marcus Smart last year started taking a ball out
of Tatum's hands, yeah, I think that's when Brad Stevens went, Okay,
if somebody's going to take the ball out of his hands,
I'm gonna have Hi, Drew Holliday and Porzingias do it.
So I mean to me, Brad Stevens told you his
slight reluctance with constantly depending on Tatum in a big spotlight.

Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, I look at Derek White, I look at Derek White,
I look at Drew Holiday as steadying influences under pressure
and getting those guys. And then Christaps Perzingis who you
can give the ball to one rim protector better than
Robert Williams available, excuse me, until this latest injury. They're

(04:42):
very shrewd, deft moves by Brad Stevens, and I agree
with you, like he realized these are the gaps, these
are the holes that my my star player. Yeah, because
Jason Tatum. This is the beauty of beauty in the
Curse of Jason Tatum. He can do a lot of
different things, and he's willing to do a lot of

(05:03):
different things. But you normally think of your superstar and
and your.

Speaker 4 (05:08):
Go to guy as your go to guy closure and
he's not.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
He's just not.

Speaker 4 (05:13):
And that's okay.

Speaker 3 (05:14):
I've actually, over the course of this season, in these playoffs,
I've come to appreciate Jason Tatum for what he is
because I've always accepted that he what he isn't And
I think there's the people, the critics that are still
holding on to, well, he didn't win finals MVP, and
he didn't do this, and he didn't do that. It's like, yeah,

(05:34):
he's not those things, like if that's what you want
from your Finals MVP, and I wouldn't have had a
problem if he had won. I don't have a problem
that Jalen Brown won if you asked me who was
the most consistent player, the most steadying influence, I'd probably
give it to Drew Holliday, but the numbers his highs
weren't as high as as Browns or Tatum's, but the

(05:56):
really the the I would have cut that that finals
MVP up, and I would have handed chunks to like
four or five different guys because I felt like they
all not just contributed, but they all had big moments.

Speaker 4 (06:11):
Derek White had big moments.

Speaker 1 (06:13):
Holiday Mike Breeden said that Derek White's the most under
read player in the league. They're not even a question.

Speaker 3 (06:18):
And so when we look at other championship teams, I've
never seen so many role players who had so many
big moments, like game turning, series turning moments as this
Boston Celtics team.

Speaker 1 (06:35):
I said, it's Luca for me. If I can see
your flaws, like with Tatum, I can't really see him.
I think a lot of them are above the shoulders.
He's too collaborative for my taste, little less alpha, but
I can't see it. It's just you know, all see
it sometimes when they'll dump it to him. He's got

(06:57):
a matchup advantage of three feet and he doesn't follow away.
I'm like, dude, lean into it. Lucas I can see
not guarding anybody, appears to be out of shape, takes
some rough shots and I and that's why maybe I'm
too harsh. But with Luke, I'm like, I can see
big holes. There's a difference between bucket getter and foundational
championship player. And I think he's got to have a

(07:20):
really I think he's got to look in the mirror
a little bit.

Speaker 3 (07:22):
Oh for sure, for sure, like a real look in
the mirror for sure. But I would say this too,
like Luca's problems are solvable. He can get into the shape,
he can learn how his personality is what it is.
He is what he is, and he Tatum has all
this talent and you expect him to be to have
this certain attitude. He doesn't have the ego of a

(07:45):
transcendent superstar. Luca Dots just has the ego of a
transcended superstar. And he has the game and the and
the talent. But physically he has to get better. Yeah, uh,
he's he's got to learn to play without the ball
moar and trust his teammates. And so like, I think
the only person who had a worse finals than Luka

(08:07):
Doncic is me in terms of I just wouldn't let
go of. I ran all the stop all the stop
lights in terms of what the Mavericks were like. You
can't give away games in the finals and still win.
You can't take guys who have never been anywhere near
this stage before and win, like I ignored. So you

(08:28):
can't have a guy who's fighting not five people in Green,
but eighteen thousand in the stadium, in the arena in Kyrie, Irving,
Like I just I ignored so many things because I
believe that the Celtics didn't have that element of closing
series and so I gotta, I gotta take this one on,

(08:51):
take this one on the chin.

Speaker 4 (08:53):
I learned a lot.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
We're kind of back to some of the tried and true,
which is experience and going through, you know, your beatings
to get there like that. We we kind of lost
sight of that for a while. I sawt the Celtics
proved that.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in Noone Eastern non am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (09:16):
I said, I thought the Celtics almost had a patriot
a football culture field. It was not flashy. It was
we over me, very effective, highly efficient, leaned into smart,
and a star who was willing to not you know,
Brady took pay cuts, didn't have to have the headlines.

(09:39):
It was a basketball it's usually been the star, the move.
It's cool. It's the cool sport in America. We don't
think a baseball is cool. NBA can be cool. It's
got juice, it's got energy, it's got it, there's some.

Speaker 4 (09:51):
There's a culture, there's a cool culture to it.

Speaker 1 (09:53):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
And the Celtics aren't cool.

Speaker 1 (09:56):
They're highly efficient, they're they're collaborative, they're a they're all
family guys. Yeah yeah, Yeah, it's like they're kind of
a football team that plays basketball and in the end
you're like, who's the MVP? Yeah, like it doesn't really matter.

Speaker 3 (10:08):
Yeah, No, that's that's that's very true. I think that's
probably why I just I didn't get the sense that
America really embraced.

Speaker 1 (10:17):
So there's two things happening in the NBA. It's becoming European, yeah,
and also it's becoming Boston's very collaborative. So these two
things simultaneously happened. We don't quite know all these European
dudes yet, and Boston doesn't have a lot of cool
factory and so I think people were It's not that
we don't like it and accept it. We're not used

(10:38):
to it with our basketball.

Speaker 4 (10:39):
Yeah. No, I can't. I can't argue with any of that.

Speaker 3 (10:44):
I do think that we are in a stage in
the league, though, and whether it's good for the league
overall or not, certainly in an age of parody.

Speaker 4 (10:52):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:53):
But also, and Boston Celtics fans don't get mad at
me for saying this, because I would say this for
any number of teams over.

Speaker 4 (11:01):
The course of the last few years.

Speaker 3 (11:03):
Yeah, the path to winning a championship really matters, like
who the matchups have become more prevalent, who's healthiest at
the end of the year is prevalent. And part of
that is just the parody factor, like players. Yeah, I
think the problem that I had I still have in

(11:24):
looking at this series is I don't think these teams
were so far different that it's a gentleman's sweep. Like
Dallas blew at least they certainly blew Game three.

Speaker 4 (11:38):
They could have won Game two.

Speaker 1 (11:41):
So you and I disagree here. I thought it was
a total mismatch. I justir two best players are disengaged
defensively a lot see.

Speaker 4 (11:51):
But the problem is is that their defense wasn't their problem.
The problem was offense.

Speaker 3 (11:56):
The problem was and give credit to Boston's defense, But
this is where I just I thought that that the
Mavericks discovered in Game three in losing when they went
twenty twenty and two to close it, right, Yeah, yeah,
what happened there Lucas started giving up the ball, and
he started giving it up early, and everybody else got involved,

(12:17):
and every time you saw other guys touching it and
touching it early, not it still might come back to Luca,
but it wasn't. He wasn't holding the ball for eighteen seconds?
Well how about and then kicking it? How about this
which you're overlooking. Kyrie was totally taken out of his
game by the Boston crowd. Yes, he had three subpar

(12:38):
games all in Boston. I would say, you know, if
there's anybody who's one of the questions we're going to
talk about is Luca's legacy and how this affected him.
But I think Kyries took a huge hit. Why with
this final I mean we just we put him in.
We were putting him in a different category coming out
of Minnesota.

Speaker 1 (12:57):
Okay, if you stacked, how good were your finals? Brown,
Luca Tatum, Derek White? Yeah, okay, he's not my Kyrie's not.

Speaker 4 (13:07):
In my tone? Know where Kyrie is?

Speaker 1 (13:08):
I mean, would have continued to play the top five,
he would have been in the five?

Speaker 4 (13:13):
Yeah, all right, there's impact.

Speaker 1 (13:15):
All right? So I made a bold prediction. Oh boy,
you know you go out in the limb. That's where
all the fruit is. JJ Reddick tomorrow be the Lakers coach. Okay,
tell me I'm wrong.

Speaker 5 (13:27):
This.

Speaker 3 (13:28):
My problem is is if you were going to hire JJ,
why why have we waited all this time?

Speaker 4 (13:32):
Well, why do we go chase Dan Hurley? Like if
that was the guy?

Speaker 1 (13:36):
Well, the whole Hurley thing was a little dicey. I
would say, they're waiting for the finals to end. Okay,
So why, Well, because you don't you want to be
a good partner with the league and let the big
broadcast in the finals end. You want to be a
good partner, Okay, don't want to You don't want to
stick it to the league and announce it an hour before. Yeah,

(13:57):
I mean they you know, you're trying to be a
good Yeah. Good, but you're gonna make Yeah.

Speaker 3 (14:01):
I mean you could have picked you could have announced
it before you got to the finals.

Speaker 4 (14:05):
Here, here's my thing.

Speaker 1 (14:06):
If you're the fifth coach to hire a staff, and
you're a rookie coach who's never coached, if I was
going to hire JJ Reddick, I'd have done it right
out of the shoot because then I can build the
best staff. We saw Joe Missoula last year without a
good staff. Yep, Yeah, he got worked, Joe Missoula. They
spent all off season getting into the staff. By the way,

(14:28):
Steve Kurt knows this. Steve Currow has had really strong staffs.

Speaker 4 (14:31):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
You can only do so much. You have to, you know,
and some stars have different coaches on staffs they connect with. Yeah,
so I get. If I would have hired JJ Reddick,
I'd have just said, hey, ESPN, we apologized to Mike Briden,
we're hiring him. Yeah, I'd have gone right after.

Speaker 3 (14:48):
It just made me think of the fact that the
the Los Angeles Clippers just hired Jef van Gundy.

Speaker 4 (14:55):
That's in fact, good hign Lou. That's a great, great hire.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
He can be for Tie what Tom Thibodeau was for
Doc Rivers in Boston.

Speaker 4 (15:05):
But what Jeffan Gundy look good next to JJ Reddick.

Speaker 1 (15:11):
Well, jeff Van Gundy would have a strong opinion. I'm
not sure the Lakers want that.

Speaker 4 (15:14):
Yeah, well, you're right, which is part of the look.

Speaker 3 (15:17):
There's the reality is there's no magic bullet in terms
of hiring a coach that is going to transform this
Lakers team.

Speaker 1 (15:25):
Look how long it took Malone in Denver with Jokch,
with Murray.

Speaker 4 (15:29):
And this this roster just isn't it is.

Speaker 1 (15:33):
It's by the way, for the record, and I tell
jmak this champions create clarity. Austin Reeves is probably your
second guy off the bench for Boston. He is if
Lebron or a d take the night off, he's their
third best No, he's their second best player. Is on
any night that Lebron or ad take off, he's off

(15:56):
the bench, and maybe not the first guy off. If
Porzingis has helped the and off the bench, Austin's the
second guy off the bench for the Celtics. That's the
gap between the Celtics and the Lakers.

Speaker 4 (16:06):
Yeah, no, I.

Speaker 1 (16:08):
Agree, Am I wrong?

Speaker 4 (16:09):
He looks at me. Am I wrong?

Speaker 1 (16:11):
If Porzingis is healthy, he's first off the bench. Austin
Reeves a second?

Speaker 5 (16:16):
How close is White and Austin Reeves? Be careful? Remember
White is on a loaded team, so he has less
to do if he's bumped up to be the three
on the Lakers?

Speaker 1 (16:25):
What is he?

Speaker 4 (16:27):
I mean? Defensively?

Speaker 2 (16:30):
Close? And offensively night and day?

Speaker 3 (16:31):
And offensive offensively I can Austin I think is a
little bit more of a playmaker.

Speaker 4 (16:37):
Yes he is.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
And Derek's shooter.

Speaker 3 (16:39):
Yeah, but but if you're asking me which guy I
would take, I'm taking Derek.

Speaker 5 (16:43):
Why behind a d and Lebron over Austin Reeves?

Speaker 1 (16:48):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (16:50):
If I had that at the point, come on, didn't
like if I had.

Speaker 5 (16:55):
And win, didn't Austin Reeves like lead them to a
victory without Lebron?

Speaker 4 (17:00):
They're in the regular season. Yeah, you remember that, they're
in the regular season.

Speaker 1 (17:03):
Yeah, he celebrates regulars.

Speaker 3 (17:05):
Here's here's the biggest here's the biggest issue with hiring JJ.
And it's nothing against him, but we already have a
microscope on the Lakers. Everything that they do is scrutinized.
Right when you like, where'd you start your career, h Vegas. Yeah,
I started mine in San Diego. Like when you when
you're learning on the job, you don't want to do

(17:27):
it on the biggest stage. And it doesn't matter what
the roster is. Everything he does is going to be scrutinized.
Everything that happens with Lebron or doesn't happen with Lebron
is going to be scrutinized, And so that only adds
pressure to the job in and of itself. And people
have compared, like Mark Jackson. Mark Jackson went to a

(17:48):
Golden State team that hadn't won anything in a decade
and won twenty three games his first year, okay, and
nobody cared because there.

Speaker 4 (17:57):
Was no expectation.

Speaker 3 (17:59):
If the Lakers only win twenty three games next year,
all the hell's going to break loose. And Steve Kerr,
I'm sorry, but Steve Kerr played under Greg Popovitch Kurrz,
he played under Phil Jackson.

Speaker 1 (18:09):
Kerr is one of the most successful people in the
league's history. Does everything well, it's so broadcast.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
Compearing like, well, Steve Kerr did it, Mark.

Speaker 1 (18:19):
Jackson did Steve.

Speaker 3 (18:21):
You can't compare the circumstances that they were under and
and Steve Kerr was handed a team that was just
ready to jump out of the box and start contending
for titles. I can't say that about these Los Angeles.

Speaker 1 (18:34):
I wasn't on a stage when I started in Vegas,
but I was near one. If you know what I mean.
He got it?

Speaker 4 (18:43):
Wow, long story, that's that's Cowhard.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
How single?

Speaker 1 (18:47):
You know? Things happened like this?

Speaker 4 (18:49):
Calan Cowhard on the edge.

Speaker 1 (18:52):
All right, I gotta go, You gotta go. Herline News

Speaker 1 (19:33):
J Max been waiting patiently here he is with the news.

Speaker 2 (19:39):
Heard on the news. This is the Herdline News.

Speaker 5 (19:43):
So I'm trying to get us more balanced coverage in
the news, not just top heavy team. So we got
the Seattle Seahawks up first college.

Speaker 1 (19:51):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (19:51):
Uh, they have a new head coach in Ravens DC
Mike McDonald. He has an interesting take saying the DK
metcalf is their best offense weapon. He wants to make
sure DK metcalp is the focal point.

Speaker 2 (20:03):
Of the offense.

Speaker 1 (20:05):
I can tell you this.

Speaker 7 (20:06):
We want to get DK the ball a lot too,
So we share that that sentiment for sure, but it's
it's it feels different now when when fourteen's out there,
he is a big, imposing, fast, powerful receiver man and
you know, really excited about it. And I think now
we've we've talked about it really since you know, we
got here in February. Plans for him and Tyler and

(20:27):
Jackson and Noah in our backs and uh what what
what it kind of look like and how we can
move guys around and uh make make DK you know,
a moving target for defenses where they you know, they
have to account for him at all times.

Speaker 1 (20:39):
But it's gonna be hard to find him. Yeah, that
receivers aren't their problem. They've got a nice look. They
have nice backs. They have two backs.

Speaker 4 (20:46):
I like they have.

Speaker 1 (20:48):
They have two backs, So that's the problem, you know
they're Their issue is they haven't had a consistent pass
rush and they don't have what I would consider a
foundational quarterback. And that's their problem.

Speaker 5 (20:59):
Well, they just traded for Sam Howell a couple of
months ago, the former Washington is not.

Speaker 4 (21:04):
Going to solve it.

Speaker 5 (21:05):
They seem to like him, like I would not be
shocked if he started.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
It more than if a defensive coach thinks that's the answer,
then I'm going to disagree with that. If Geno Smith
and Sam Howe both components, both capable, Sam's got some
juice to it, but that that's not winning over McVeigh, Shanahan, Kyler, Murray,
Matt Stafford and the all star team known as the Niners.

(21:31):
That's that's a fourth place quarterback room.

Speaker 5 (21:35):
They have maybe a top five wide receiver room in
the league. Great Calf Lockett and stuff.

Speaker 1 (21:40):
They got plenty of way there. They're really John Snyder's
done a great job at receiver and back. I think
their offensive line I didn't love what Pete Carroll did
to the offensive line over the years.

Speaker 5 (21:50):
I thought they kind of they drafted well a couple
of years ago. Possible they're a Dak landing spot next
year if the Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (21:55):
Part with oh I think absolutely. I know two teams
that would go after Dak. Absolutely, Seattle in Vegas would
be absolutely interested.

Speaker 5 (22:02):
I wouldn't rule out of New York Giants.

Speaker 2 (22:05):
Maybe running Ability Day Bowl.

Speaker 1 (22:07):
Well, he's a grown up. He's a goin twelve games
a year.

Speaker 5 (22:10):
You know, next up Clay Thompson. This is starting to
get interested in Colin. Not only did he unfollow the
Warriors and delete all his content from their twenty twenty
two title run, but Cham's Sharania reports Clay will test
free agency and has open to all options. He says
Clay is seeking a three year deal. He goes he

(22:33):
won't get anything near the max and for some reason,
he's joining the Bahamian national team for training camp ahead
of Olympic qualifiers. He's still part of USA basketball, but
in shape. There is a guy who has had a
couple of major injuries a few summers ago. I'm surprised he's.

Speaker 4 (22:51):
In what would you?

Speaker 1 (22:53):
I'm not and I would get my contract.

Speaker 5 (22:55):
And then I would get a.

Speaker 1 (22:56):
Few of the Warriors. Would you keep him after drafting pods?
Would you keep? Always the price point, right, I think
he's a great first guy off the bench, he's a
great bench.

Speaker 5 (23:06):
He doesn't want a one year deal from the Warriors.

Speaker 2 (23:08):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (23:08):
So that's the problem. If you gave me a one
year deal him off the bench, I would take. I
would take Clay tomorrow. I think he could be the
best bench player in the league. I mean, poor zingisk
is willing to come off the bench, and a lot
of guys willing to come off the bench in this league.
Russell Westbrooks said, I'll come off the bench.

Speaker 5 (23:24):
He was a very good bench by the Orlando smoke.

Speaker 1 (23:27):
I think he did a great fit there. But Clay
Thompson feels very California to me. I don't see him,
and I think the Warriors want him. I think Kerr
really wants him. I think Joe lacub is all about
the price point because he he blew through the salary
cap for years and had very punitive luxury a tack
bills and he's like, I'll do that when I hoist trophies.

(23:48):
This is not a trophy team. So they've got some
you know comingas an interesting player, Moody Pods. They've got
some young guys I like. But I what you don't
do is when the dynasty's over, it's over, and you
have to be very selective on who you keep. I
would keep Draymond and Curry and I would move off
everything else. I would move off Wiggins tomorrow.

Speaker 5 (24:07):
The best time to rebuild is last year, and I
think they missed their window with trading Clay getting something
now that you imagine losing them for nothing. That sound great, Like,
I know you like Pods, but is he ready.

Speaker 2 (24:18):
To step in?

Speaker 1 (24:19):
And well, it's a young it's a younger league. Pods
is ready to play. I like it.

Speaker 5 (24:23):
I like bullish on that guy for a while. The
final story is to the Euros where France got to
win over Austria yesterday on her own goal, but Killian
Ambappe was injured. Argue with the best player in the
world suffered what right there a broken nose and it
sounds like he will miss the rest of the group stage.

(24:43):
Blood everywhere. Yeah, like a jersey, I mean. And Bope
is phenomenal. He actually set up the old goal with
a great little move there in the box.

Speaker 1 (24:53):
This has been intense.

Speaker 4 (24:54):
By the way, here's the thing.

Speaker 5 (24:56):
He will He's not expected to play against Netherlands Friday
on Fox. That's gonna be a great game. Netherlands is awesome. However,
there's a thought that he could wear a mask and
maybe play in one of the other Euro game.

Speaker 4 (25:08):
Listen.

Speaker 5 (25:08):
I don't know how their odds went up, but they
are now the favorite. England second Germany, who looked incredible
this tournament.

Speaker 1 (25:16):
If you've not seen it, the quality of soccer is
through the roof Germany dismembered.

Speaker 5 (25:22):
Someone in Portugal Spain looked exceptionally well. Portugal plays later today.
Christiano Ronaldo back in action, but to Simbape injury. We
want our stars out there. We're gonna see Messi and
Copa America.

Speaker 1 (25:34):
Oh, I can't wait for the COVID.

Speaker 5 (25:36):
I mean, it's summer of soccer, very exciting.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
It's very exciting.

Speaker 5 (25:38):
It'll be better in the NBA final, that's for sure.

Speaker 1 (25:41):
Well, there was it was. I will say that about
a company I used to work for. They did not
do well with NBA playoff revenue. All these sweeps and
gentlemen sweeps like ESPN. I've said before the only time
I've seen nervous executives in my career is when you're
you get sweeps and gentlemen sweeps. In any sport, you

(26:04):
lose money. So you're already paying a fortune, so you
got to make it. People don't understand, Like the NFL
is different. You pay for rights for the NFL, but
the super bowls a freebie. So that's where you make
your money back, is a super Bowl. So if you
get a super Bowl every four years, you can make
five hundred million dollars. Now, of course you have to
pay for the all the production, but a super Bowl
can make five hundred and fifty million if it goes

(26:25):
into overtime, like like like you know what the Patriot
was at Atlanta? Patriots? Yeah, Like that's a ner twenty
five million bucks. You're on the phone with advertising, So
what you don't want is sweeps and gentlemen sweeps. You
are hemorrhaging money. Boston was bad for business.

Speaker 5 (26:42):
They were so good that they were bad.

Speaker 1 (26:43):
They were bad for business. And the East was bad
and the Knicks fell apart, and it's like the Boston Celtics,
that company lost a lot of money on the Celtics
and I'm not blaming anybody, but it's just they were
bad for business. Jmack with the news.

Speaker 2 (26:59):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by. It's
the herd Line News.

Speaker 1 (27:05):
Tom Brady's in the studio joining us live tomorrow. I'm
gonna have to pair buy a new pair of shoes or.

Speaker 5 (27:11):
You want to get a haircut, baby, Well I'm getting
one tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
Yeah. I'm not gonna just show up here. I may
have to, you know, really get a good night sleep.

Speaker 4 (27:20):
Tom might remember me.

Speaker 5 (27:21):
I interviewed him like twenty years ago at a Victorious
secret party.

Speaker 1 (27:25):
Yeah, I don't think he's gonna remember that.

Speaker 4 (27:26):
You don't think no kind of memorable?

Speaker 1 (27:29):
Is that? Was that? In your double earring stage?

Speaker 2 (27:32):
It might have been.

Speaker 5 (27:33):
I'm also, you know, a fun, nice brown guy who
talks about sports and is very knowledgeable. Like not a
lot of me out there. I'm a unicorn baby, yeah Brady.

Speaker 1 (27:43):
Not in a chat homegrown er Wemby sort of way,
but in kind of an annoying sort of Yeah. No,
I think so Tom's in studio is a big one.

Speaker 5 (27:53):
I'm excited for the in between when we're off air
and just you know, shooting stuff.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
I don't think he's gonna engage in that.

Speaker 5 (28:00):
Really, well, everybody does. No.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
You know what I've found through the years is when
you get a superstar, you just you do the interview
and you let them be superstars. You know, you don't
get in their way. He's probably pretty busy.

Speaker 5 (28:14):
Sounds like the guy who met Kyler Murray at the
UFC and didn't exchange phone numbers or anything. You should
see mine.

Speaker 1 (28:18):
I don't like to b when I see these athletes.
Max Crosby's my guy. I don't ask for phone numbers.
I don't want to bother him.

Speaker 5 (28:25):
No, I just say I'll hit you up, man, let's
get together.

Speaker 1 (28:27):
Boom. I say, hey, love your work, man, appreciate you
coming on the show, Always got your back, And then
I leave. Max Crosby needs you to get you mean me.
But I want him to know I'm there for him.
