Speaker 3 (00:24):
Here we go, Colin right, Colin wrong in a Monday.

Speaker 2 (00:27):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (00:29):
Let's start with this. Caitlin Clark ten points in the fourth.
We had said once her schedule lightens up, she's going.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
To be Andrew Luck.

Speaker 1 (00:39):
She is going to take a bad roster to playoff
level sports. And she's been terrific. She's averaging seventeen and eight. Actually,
a couple of her teammates now she is elevated. They
play better defense. She leaves the league in assists, she's
third in three pointers made. The league did her no

(01:00):
favors with the first seven or eight games against New
York and Connecticut. Caitlin Clark, she's good and take advance.
This is your Connor McGregor of the UFC moment. Bryce
Harper to baseball, get her on television as much as
you can where Colin was wrong. The Clippers let Paul

(01:22):
George go. I still do not get it. Do you
realize he shot forty one percent on three point shooting.
He's a little bit like a poor man's Jason Tatum
out West, and they let him go. So they have
now James Harden and Kawhi Leonard, who's never available. I
still don't get it. I think he's an elite wing defender.

(01:43):
He's an elite wing three point shooter. The whole league
could use Paul George.

Speaker 3 (01:51):
The whole league could use Paul George. The Clippers hard.

Speaker 2 (01:54):
Pass where Colin was right.

Speaker 3 (01:57):
What do you know?

Speaker 1 (01:58):
NFL ex executives and coaches and scouts named Jared Goff
the second best quarterback in the NFC. I never get
the golf slander, folks. He threw for fifty four hundred
yards last year and had a higher passer rating than
Patrick Mahomes. I know he doesn't run around. He's the

(02:21):
last of the true young pocket quarterback. For the record, CJ.
Stroud doesn't run around either much. This league is won
from the pocket. Scouts get it. The critics don't. Goff
After Stafford named best NFC.

Speaker 2 (02:34):
Quarterback where Colin was wrong.

Speaker 1 (02:38):
Greg Berhalter won sixty nine percent of his games as
a United States men's national team coach, and they axed him.
He got to the round of sixteen at the World
Cup and a draw against England with the second youngest
World Cup team, and they axed him. By the way,
I've said, I think there needs to be some house

(03:00):
leaning in the US soccer Federation. Here's Canada's coach on
if he'd be interested for Greg's job.

Speaker 4 (03:08):
I have no interest in the US job, and to
be fair, unless there's a big shift in the organization,
I don't think that I'll ever have interest in that
job in the future.

Speaker 3 (03:20):
What is that telling you?

Speaker 1 (03:22):
It's not a Greg Berhalter thing, It's a soccer federation
thing in this country. Where Colin was right, loved Jalen
Brunson from the beginning. I said he had self awareness.
I said, this is a kid you build around. There's
a lot of fake New York stars. This is the
best quarterback in the city. He's a leader, he's tough,

(03:43):
he embraces it. He just signed a contract which was
very team friendly and with the new CBA, big advantages
for New York to stop that front court. Jalen Brunson
is the most likable NBA player, arguably in this sport.
Self awareness, leader, toughness, villanova guy. I mean, I don't

(04:09):
know what you can say about That's what leadership looks like.
A willingness to sign a contract that's not Jalen friendly,
although I'll make one hundred and fifty seven million. It's
team friendly, city friendly, organization friendly.

Speaker 2 (04:21):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 3 (04:24):
Ronnie James, how can you draft him?

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Have you seen the summer league attendance? Now, he can't shoot,
but he's not a shooter. He's been a very good
defensive player. He's selling merch, he's packing the summer league games. Listen.
It was a terrible draft. Lebron's carried the sport along
with the Warriors for twenty years. You couldn't do.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Him a solid.

Speaker 1 (04:45):
He's actually, he's actually been a very good defensive player.
He runs the court well, he's a tweeter. He's not
a true point he can't shoot from the outside like
you'd like a two guard to do.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
But is he an NBA rotational player? Yes.

Speaker 1 (05:00):
The overreaction to him being drafted, the kids selling out arenas.

Speaker 3 (05:04):
This is a business.

Speaker 2 (05:05):
Right where Colin was raw.

Speaker 1 (05:08):
The Denver Nuggets second straight off season, lost a key
role player. I thought this could be a dynasty after
that title, but KCP to Orlando. Excellent wing defender, excellent
three point shooter. Second year in a row, Denver's lost
a really important piece.

Speaker 3 (05:27):
I don't love it.

Speaker 2 (05:29):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (05:30):
The Chicago Bulls are trying to give Zach Lavin away
and nobody wants him. The Warriors were offered Zach Levine
for Andrew Wiggins and Chris Paul who they were trying
to get rid of, and the Warriors declined it. He
has become an increasingly inefficient player. He's a highlight reel,

(05:51):
but his three point shooting's gone backwards. He's not a
winning player. He's just fun to watch on YouTube. His
teams don't win. His three point shootings going backwards. The
Bulls are trying to give him away, and even the
Warriors said pass.

Speaker 2 (06:07):
Where Colin was right.

Speaker 1 (06:09):
I said this couple months ago. If you watch the
Phillies play, that's the best team in baseball, tremendous power,
starting pitching. They have eight All Stars times the all
time record ties it. And that doesn't include you know
Aaron Nola got snubbed, their ace got snubbed. So this
is just a tremendous baseball team. Thirty seven and sixteen

(06:31):
at home. Another Bryce Harper team is captivating, looks and
feels like a team that's going to.

Speaker 3 (06:37):
Get to the World Series.

Speaker 1 (06:39):
Very rarely does home field advantage feel impactful in baseball.
The old Yankee Stadium absolutely. Did you watch the Phillies
play at home? You can't. You can't get your TV
remote and go through the channels. If the Phillies are playing,
they jump off the television. Best team in baseball swept

(07:00):
the Dodgers last week.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in noon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (07:11):
So Andy Reid was talking yesterday, Nick Wright, in about
five minutes. Andy Reid was talking yesterday about retirement and stuff,
and everybody's trying to get Andy Reid into retirement. Can
we stop? I want more Andy Reid's in the league,
not fewer, his play calling, his play design. Belichick was grumpy,
see you later. I like Andy Reid, and I thought,

(07:34):
you know what's funny about this sport is that we
all acknowledge it is a quarterback league, but it's really
a quarterback in the coaches league. And I was just
sitting there this morning. You can't count I'm not going
to count Jim Harball because he's been out of the
league for years. Joe Gibbs left the league for years.
Took him about a year to catch up. I think
Harball's going to end up being a top ten coach

(07:56):
very quickly. I think his brother's unbelievable. But if I
had to name the top ten coaches in the NFL today,
I think this, and it feels the same way. When
Belichick was in his prime, there was a big gap
Belichick to two. When Jordan was in his prime, there
was a big gap mj to the two when Lebron
was in his prime. When you're really great, it means

(08:17):
there's a huge gap between you and the next guy.
And that's how I kind of feel with Andy Reid
right now. So let's do my top ten coaches in
the NFL before we get to Nick, right, I think,
and Andy Reid's an easy one experience play design, play
calling in He's got the second most playoff appearances by
any coach in league history behind Shula and Belichick. He's

(08:38):
been the winning his coach for two different teams, and
I think the league punished him for a long time
because it was a defensive league. The minute the NFL
pivoted to an offensive league, Andy Reid has dominated it.
He's Number one. I think Sean McVay is the best
culture center in the league. He got a head coaching
job in the NFL at third years old, won a

(09:01):
Super Bowl at thirty six, and this guy's had eight
different quarterbacks play a snap in seven seasons. He's been
in a very good division. And I've had other people
in the NFL say this. His ability to not only
see personnel in college, but develop it quickly in the NFL.

(09:22):
There's a reason the Rams do not have a lot
of busts when they draft. They have a good GM,
but his ability to get the most out of every
player and a roster is I think historically remarkable, and
he's a good guy.

Speaker 3 (09:35):
Number three.

Speaker 1 (09:36):
The most underrated coach maybe in my lifetime, John Harball,
because Jim gets so much attention. This guy has a
number one scoring defense. Under John Harball, they always have
great special teams, often best in the league under John Harball,
and right now they have the best rushing offense in
the NFL under John Harpball. All three elements of the sport. Defense, elite, specialty, elite,

(10:01):
run game, elite. The guy can flat out coach, four
time AFC Championship, game apparent to Super Bowl. Even the
Andy Reids acknowledge I'm gonna let Spags do defense. Harbaugh
does everything well, drafting, player development, leadership, culture, run game,
special teams, defense number four.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
He's a buddy.

Speaker 1 (10:23):
But I think Sean Payton's brilliant nine season was double
digit wins. You know, last year everybody was banging on
Russell Wilson. He got the best out of Russell Wilson.
Russell's not going to be that good in Pittsburgh. He's
not gonna be that good. It was the Broncos defense.
And I think if you look at his history, won
of seven coaches with a Super Bowl from the Parcels Tree.

(10:46):
He likes the Rebills people. The Saints were the worst
franchise in the history of the league when he took
him over. There was no franchise that it was ever
had less talent and less cultural relevance in the history
of the league of the Saints when he took him over,
and they had nine years with double digit wins. Number
five Mike Tomlin. Listen, he's had five different offensive coordinators,

(11:09):
and I don't trust him with O lines or hiring ocs.
But we got to be honest. Since he's been coach,
only two teams have had a better record, the Packers
and the Patriots, and he's done it with different quarterbacks,
never had a losing record. I think he's the great
motivator in the NFL. I think he gets players to
play above themselves very well. I also think I have

(11:32):
also said I thought he would be a great college
coach if Ari wanted to. He's great in teaching, He's
very good in motivation and player development. I don't think
he has a touch for offense. I don't think I
don't like his offensive coordinator hires.

Speaker 3 (11:47):
But I put him at five.

Speaker 1 (11:49):
Now you're gonna think I have Kyle Shanahan too low
at six.

Speaker 3 (11:52):
But here's the issue.

Speaker 1 (11:54):
I love Kyle, but he is very tied to his
play sheet, and I think it's hurting late in big games.
He has been outscored fifty eight to twelve in the
fourth quarter and overtime of three Super Bowls. Now again,
I think you know he's top six in the league.
You can argue he should be higher, but I think

(12:14):
John Harbaugh's history of both sides of the football and
special teams excellent is above this. Kyle is very good.
He is a Andy Reid type coach, a play designer. Again,
he is tied to his play sheet and there are
times late in games where I think he gets out coached.

(12:36):
I love him, I love his dad. He'll be a
Hall of Famer. I think he's gonna win a Super Bowl.
But again, once you get past Andy Reid and maybe
McVeigh and Harbaugh, it's inches not feet. Number seven Matt
Lafleur fifty six wins in five seasons, tied for the
second most in league history as a head coach. I
thought last year the playoff win over Dallas in Dallas

(12:58):
with the youngest team since the nineteen se how many
Buffalo Bills was a crowning achievement. I felt it took
a while, but last year Thanksgiving on it felt like
Matt Lafleur was now running the franchise and Aaron Rodgers
and the Ghost of Aaron were officially out of the building.
I think he's a really clever guy, very close. He

(13:18):
may not be the culture builder of McVeigh or the
play builder of Shanahan, but his IQ, his ability to
get along with players and navigate through Aaron Rodgers, I
think the guy's really good. Number eight Kevin Stefanski The Browns,
come on, man, this has been a tire fire my
entire life. Two time Coach of the Year, two playoff appearances,

(13:42):
won a playoff game with Baker Mayfield. The guy is
a really sharp dude. He and Andrew Berry know what
they're doing. The Browns had the worst record in the
league when he took that over, and I'm sorry that
matters to me. What do you take over? I don't
care if you're a radio I don't care if you're
a businessman. What do you take over? He took over

(14:04):
the league's biggest circus and he's made the playoffs twice.

Speaker 3 (14:08):
Number nine Sean McDermott.

Speaker 1 (14:10):
He's got the most wins in the league without a
Super Bowl title. Again, like Mike Tomlin, don't love his
inability to create consistent run games. Tomlin, I don't like
his choice on OC's McDermott O line outside of left
tackle has been a revolving door. I do think when
they landed Cook, their run game will be now substantial

(14:32):
going forward. But we can't we can't keep banging on
McDermott without also acknowledging this was a lousy organization. He's
a very good leader. He's also willing to admit mistakes,
and a lot of rigid older coaches don't. He can
be a little tight, he can be tough on coaches,
but he is willing to stand up, be a man

(14:52):
and acknowledge mistakes. Much respect for that, Sean McDermott nine
number ten. I know he doesn't have a big resume. Damn.
I think Demko Ryans is great. I gotta tell you something.
I was told by people in the building at San Francisco.
They thought his second year on the staff, they thought
he could have been a head coach and he was

(15:14):
just out of the league. I'm sorry, but to take
a rookie quarterback to build a staff. When I watch
Houston play, I think they squeeze every ounce.

Speaker 3 (15:25):
Out of their talent.

Speaker 1 (15:27):
I think I know I don't love defensive coaches. That
dude is dialed in, that is a culture creator. He's
got you know what, he reminds me of a little bit.
He's got some McVeigh, really young, big energy, looks like
he could play in the league, and a culture creator
who makes quarterbacks very comfortable. Now I'm not gonna put

(15:50):
Jim Harbor on the list. I think he'll be great,
but he hasn't coached in forever.

Speaker 2 (15:54):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays
and Newoneaster not a em Pacific.

Speaker 5 (16:00):

Speaker 3 (16:19):
Ed Milett or John Gordon.

Speaker 5 (16:20):
We've all been through some sort of adversity to get
to the top. We've all used different tools. Listen to
Unbreakable with Jay Glazer and Mental Wealth podcast on the
iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get podcasts.

Speaker 1 (16:36):
So this is my pre camp before any injuries, pre
camp predictions. Let's start in the AFC East. The Bills
have won the division four straight years.

Speaker 3 (16:47):
I'm giving it to them.

Speaker 1 (16:49):
The Dolphins, it's an offensive league. Had the number one
total offense in the NFL and two it through for
forty six hundred passing yards. It's an offensive league. The
Jets third, Yes, they have a great defense. O line questions,
head coaches defensive Aaron has not taken a snap more

(17:09):
than four snaps in five hundred and fifty nine days
in the NFL. Hasn't taken more than four snaps. Sorry
about the great defense. Jets third, Patriots fourth. I think
that's the first or second worst offensive roster in the league.
AFC North, it's the best division in football, so it's inches,
not feet. Listen the Ravens top five offense, top five defense,

(17:31):
and the best special teams coach in the league. I
have him winning the division. Zach Taylor and Joe Burrow
have proven when Joe's healthy, they win. What do you
want me to say? Last year with Jake Browning they
had a winning record with Jake Browning Burrows back in.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
They're a playoff team.

Speaker 1 (17:49):
Steelers, they can't figure out their O line or their
offensive coordinator. I love their roster frankly, I worry in
an offensive league about getting it right on that side
of the ball. Love the in Cleveland, total question mark
on Deshaun Watson, weird personality, weird injuries. I'll just put
them forth for now. AFC West Kansas City until further notice.

(18:10):
They won the division eight straight times, best coaching, football,
best quarterback, they get it. I think the Chargers have
limitations on the perimeter, but don't be shocked if they
don't make a move for Brandon Aiyuk and potentially give
up mac or Bosa. On their edge, They've got two
good edge rushers, they need a star receiver. They may
make a move. In my opinion, I'll take them second.

(18:31):
I like the Broncos more than Vegas, but PFF says
worst roster in the league. Broncos third, Raiders fourth. They've
got a rookie coach and quarterback issues. Finally, AFC South
really much better division than people give it credit for.
I worried about the Texans pulling back, but they had
another really strong draft and free agency period. Stefan Diggs,

(18:55):
Joe Mixon. I'll take them to win. I think it's
Trevor Lawrence's best roster yet Jaguars finished second. They were
nine to eight last year and Trevor Lawrence fell apart
down the stretch. They'll rebound. I like the Colts, but
I questioned Anthony Richardson's playing style and staying healthy their
third and the Titans, I have questions at quarterback and
their offensive lines worse than Will Levis. So I'll take

(19:18):
them forth we go to the NFC. By the way,
I have three new playoff teams in the AFC. Bill's Chiefs, Ravens,
Texans winning the division, Bengals, Chargers, Jaguars wildcard team. So
that's three new playoff teams. That's the average. Three and
a half to four is the average per year.

Speaker 3 (19:37):
I've got three.

Speaker 1 (19:39):
Let's go to the NFC, where Philadelphia easily the best
roster in the division. Nick Seriani did he hire better assistance.
They started last year ten and one, then they fell
off a cliff. I think they rebound. Maybe not a
super Bowl team, very good. I'm gonna go with Washington,
new coach, new OC, new quarterback, new owner. I think

(20:00):
they use that energy and juice to catapult. I think
they're the surprise team in the NFL. Washington second, Dallas
is a very viable third, but I think they're top
heavy and overly dependent on Dak and Ceedee Lamb to
carry the entire offense. Giants just not good enough to quarterback.
I pick them forward. Let's go to the NFC North Detroit.

(20:23):
Number one offensive line in football. If you have the
best offensive line in football, it's like having the best
starting pitching staff in baseball. It gives you so many
advantages over everybody else. I love their front office, you
know I love golf. Not great defensively, They've tried to
show it up. I have Green Bay second best young
offensive talent to me in the sport. They're not paying

(20:45):
anybody until Jordan Love here in about a week. I
take them for second, by the way they close the
season out winning six of eight games and hammer the
Cowboys in the playoffs. Chicago's a viable third. Can't wait
to watch them play, but it's a defensive coach on
the hot seat and a rookie quarterback.

Speaker 3 (21:01):
O Line's good, not great. They're third.

Speaker 1 (21:03):
I think Minnesota is going to be the best fourth
place team in the NFL. I love their offense and
I'm rooting for Sam Darnold, but the division's too good.
I think by the end of the year we'll say
this is the best division in football. I'll pick the
Vikings as a really fun, dynamic number four. Let's go
to the NFC West. Yes, I like the Rams. I

(21:26):
thought they had a back to back sensational drafts, finish
top ten in total offense and scoring last year. I
really like what they've done with their defensive front in
the last two drafts. Niners are good, but they're an old,
expensive football team. Watch out for injuries and the Brandon

(21:46):
au noise. Seattle, Hey, they finished nine to eight. Gino
Smith's good enough to win you games. They have a
new staff, a new coach. I'm gonna take Shanahan and
McVeigh over the rookie coach their third I love Kyler Murray,
but I just don't think Arizona RA right now can
compete with the rosters above them. Finally, the worst division
in football. I do think Atlanta getting Kirk Cousins and

(22:07):
Michael Pennix will stabilize the quarterback position. Second best offensive
line in football. It's hard not to be a playoff
team when you have that good of an offensive line.
Bucks have made the playoffs four straight years. Baker is
more than capable. Carolina Saints not very good. I don't
like New Orleans situation right now. Coaching at all NFC

(22:28):
playoff teams Eagles, Falcons, Lions, Rams, Niners, Commanders, Packers are
wild card teams, but only two new playoff teams.

Speaker 3 (22:37):
So the problem.

Speaker 1 (22:38):
I have only three new playoff teams in the AFC,
only two new playoff teams in the NFC. I'm at
five the averages seven, So again, I'm gonna wait through camp.
I'm gonna wait for injuries. My take is something will
happen again. You think it's crazy. We're gonna have a

(22:59):
surprise team. Mine's Washington. Last year it was Houston. I'm
crossing my fingers. I think the Chargers will make a
move at wide receiver and potentially move off Bosa or
Khalil Mack. That is my guest because they drafted a
couple of years ago previous regime defensive end from USC

(23:19):
who's a very very aggressive pass rusher, So they've got
a little stockpiled talent there. J Mack, I know your
initial thought. I'm not going to bet against the number
one offense in the league. Last year, Miami oh, hold on,
hold on, hold on.

Speaker 3 (23:33):
They're not going to make the playoffs. Do you have
the exact same winners in the AFC for each division? Yeah,
because they're easily they're all star quarterbacks. That never happens.
Well you know that it never happens. I don't know.
Brady Manning and Big Ben won their division year after
year after year.

Speaker 1 (23:49):
But that's not every division. That's three of the division, Buffalo,
Kansas City. Like I said, with the Texans, I think
Texans Jags comes down to the final week. That's either
a Trevor Lawrence C. J.

Speaker 3 (24:00):
Stroud. I keep an eye on the courl.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
So I have the AFC East. I have Miami offense
and Jets defense. They beat each other up and in
the end they miss it. They missed the plaid. They're
both in the nine and eight category.
