Speaker 2 (00:19):
This is the Best of the Herd with Colin cowher
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:27):
Here we go, Jmax back at Tuesday Live in Los Angeles.
It's the Herd wherever you may be and however you
may be listening. Thanks for making us part of your day.
My favorite part of today, just laughing before the show started.
So the NFL teams are now releasing depth charts. Sam
Darnold starting for the Vikings clearly the leader, not JJ

(00:54):
McCarthy in the clubhouse, and then Jmack pointed out to me, if.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
You want to save it for the for the herdline
news it is.

Speaker 1 (01:02):
It is kind of funny that bo Nicks like JJ
McCarthy in Minnesota. They're in third, so the offensive coaches,
Kevin O'Connell and Sean Payton, they bury their rookie quarterbacks.
You've got a lot to learn kid, they bury him
behind Jarrett Stidham and Sam Darnold, just saying.

Speaker 4 (01:21):
Kind of shocking. Michael Pennix in Atlanta, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:24):
Second third, he made some nice throws at practice, Oh lovely.

Speaker 5 (01:27):
So I was thinking about this.

Speaker 1 (01:30):
There is no quarterback in the NFL that's won a
playoff game. Daniel Jones won a playoff game. There is
no quarterback in the NFL that gets ripped more. And
there's no empathy or no sympathy even on HBO's Hard Knocks.
I mean it was like anti Daniel Jones. The Giants,

(01:51):
Mara the GM would talk about him. Daniel Jones was
watching it. He's got a playoff win. Now, did the
Giants reach the dry from at number six?

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Yes?

Speaker 1 (02:03):
Is he overpaid currently in the NFL, Well, it's forty
million a year, not fifty five.

Speaker 5 (02:08):
But yeah.

Speaker 1 (02:09):
So yesterday there was a big scuffle Lions Giants at practice,
and I gotta be honest with you, Daniel Jones jumped
right into the middle of it and was right there
pushing back with everybody, and the coaches are like trying
to pull the quarterback out. But I don't know, Maybe
it's because you know, he's getting paid more than he deserves.

(02:31):
So what so does the entire NFL. Maybe he went
to Duke Easy to dislike privileged school, or that he's
he's a member of a team in New York. You
know that we tend to think of New York teams
as getting too much free press. But nobody gets bashed
more than Daniel Jones. And he's won a playoff game.
And so I grew up when I watched the Olympics,

(02:52):
and I've had a ball watching the Olympics, so much patriotism, optimism.
You know, the real stories aren't the one people are
talking about on Twitter. The real stories are Simone Biles,
Katie Ledeki, these amazing women, Ukrainian athletes, Canadian athletes.

Speaker 5 (03:09):
It's just been wonderful.

Speaker 1 (03:11):
But you know, the grifters are going to go to
the negative so and talk about something that didn't know
existed a month ago.

Speaker 5 (03:17):
But be that as it may.

Speaker 1 (03:19):
I grew up with baseball, football, basketball, there were box scores,
and in gymnastics when I watch it sometimes I'm like,
it's all subjective. I can't figure out the scoring. It's
all subjective. I mean, I know if somebody falls off,
you know, one of the beams. It's bad news, but
I can't tell. And that's one of the things that
it's kind of mystifying to me about the Olympics. You

(03:40):
train all these years, you cross your fingers, you get
the right judge. But I was thinking about how I
grew up with box scores and facts, and you know,
you can look at numbers and data, and so it's interesting.
As much as we bashed Daniel Jones, yet for like

(04:01):
two years, people in the same city defended Zach Wilson.
Daniel Jones is much better than Zach Wilson. Kenny Pickett
was supported for a year in Pittsburgh. Daniel Jones is
much better than Kenny Pickett. And then there's Justin Fields,
who Daniel Jones is absolutely better than as well. You

(04:22):
think I'm wrong. This is not gymnastics. Let's go to numbers.
This is not gymnastics. In every crucial category, without question,
with a worse offensive line PFF last two years ranks
the Giants a line as bad as any in the
league and with clearly fewer weapons. No DJ Moore, right,

(04:44):
no Dj Moore On the outside, Daniel Jones has won
over twice as many games completes a significantly higher percentage
of his passes, averages more yards a game. Touchdown interception
ratio is better, so is the passer rating. It's significantly
We're so lined with fewer weapons. Well, well, Brian Dable

(05:05):
Brian Dabel the head coach is Matt Eberflus the head coach.
Both are on the hot seat. Both have not proven
to be great head coaches. Both are very good on
their side of the ball. The Bears week ten last
year on with the best defense in the league. Well,
they didn't have the best defense in personnel. Eber Flues
can clearly as a young coach dial up his side

(05:29):
of the ball. And day Ball's done an excellent job
with Josh Allen and getting Daniel Jones into the playoffs.
But they're both in a hot seat. Both We're not
really sure. Dave Ball's got that fiery temper off putting
to some. Eber Flues has changed. Is looked up, but
is the over his head a little. They're both the
same guy. We really don't know if they're going to

(05:50):
last through the end of their contracts.

Speaker 5 (05:53):
We do not know. Both good their side of the ball.

Speaker 1 (05:57):
So also, Daniel Jones actually has a playoff win, Justin
Field has a neverse sniffed it. So it's interesting, as
I watched the Olympics, and so much as subjective, be
very careful about being swayed by optics and aesthetics. Justin
Fields looks to be better, but winning in this league

(06:18):
is from the pocket, and he is an inaccurate thrower. Now,
both guys are bad in the fourth quarter, but the
difference is Daniel Jones was actually better there too. The
other thing to remember, Whereas in Daniel Jones division, since
he's been there, the Eagles have made a Super Bowl.
The Cowboys have won twelve games multiple times. In Caleb

(06:42):
Williams's division, they had to rebuild because Aaron Rodgers left
his first few years. First couple of years, the lines
were a mess, and the Vikings are the Vikings. Oh
it's okay, So just take this into consideration. But I
watched Daniel Jones get in that fight yesterday and I thought, God,
does anybody say anything, including me, ever nice about this kid?

(07:05):
Here they get into a fight and he's jamming his
head into it and his teammates are pulling him off,
and it's like, listen, I don't have a problem criticizing
Daniel or Justin Fields. But it's amazing who we at
least are optimistic about. I mean, Justin Fields. Everybody's like
that guy deserves a second chance. Maybe Daniel Jones just

(07:25):
deserves one day of support. Even on HBO Max's Hard Knocks,
they were mocking him openly talking about his replacement a
college kid. Here was Daniel Jones yesterday about that scuffle.

Speaker 6 (07:42):
The situation happens like that, Just stand up for your guys.
But I thought it was a good competitive practice all
day to day. And you know, we made some plays
and we did some good things. There's some things we
need to shure up for sure, but it's good, you know,
good intensity and competitive spirit today.

Speaker 1 (07:59):
So again saying he's great, But I'm saying, if Justin
Fields has all these supporters, Daniel Jones is better in
every crucial category. Maybe take a deep breath and I
can give him a little support, litt support, little optimism
this year speaking of optics and a level of optimism

(08:23):
or hype that maybe isn't deserved. Micah Parsons apparently yesterday
in practice just discombobulated the Cowboys offense. Micah Parson says,
I'm eating now. It's pretty much over. I'm in rhythm.
I can single handedly wreck the Cowboys offense. Really, do

(08:45):
you remember how dominating Micah Parsons was against the youngest
playoff team since nineteen seventy, the Green Bay Packers. Two
total tackles, zero sex. He was invisible. He was also
in visible mostly against Detroit no sacks and the Niners
no sackson, two pressures. Michah Parson's three worst games of

(09:08):
the year last year came against the three best teams
he faced in the NFC. Detroit, San Francisco in Green
Bay didn't do squat. He's talented like Dak He's not
a savior. He's not as powerful as Miles Garrett. He's
not as relentless as Bosa for the Niners or TJ.

(09:30):
Watt for the Steelers. He's not He's Aiden Hutchison of
the Lions, a very good player. The difference is he
is sold to us like a legend, sort of like
the quarterback for the Cowboys. Micah Parsons is productive, very
good if you look it up against really bad teams,

(09:51):
and then disappears in January. Heard that before his biggest
sack game was against awful Carolina. In fact, half of
his sacks this game against Washington, the Jets and Carolina
in four playoff games one sack and often invisible disappears

(10:12):
in January. So today's opening in The.

Speaker 5 (10:16):
Herd is.

Speaker 1 (10:18):
Deep dive into the numbers with Micah Parsons against the
best teams, deep dive in the numbers about quarterbacks you
bail on or support. This is not gymnastics numbers, box scores, data,
completion percentages, sacks against better tackles. This stuff stills matters.

(10:40):
Nick Wright in One Hour from Now. So did you
see I just loved Jim Harbaugh yesterday? So the NCAA,
which is at this point has no teeth, came out
yesterday Ugh Michigan impropriety, and Jim Harbaugh said, not apologize.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
I don't lie. Cheater Steele never did, unaware.

Speaker 1 (11:03):
Of it, and I believe him. I do believe him.
So I want to talk about Jim Harbaugh around the corner.

Speaker 2 (11:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and Noone Eastern not a im Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (11:22):
Just drives people crazy, doesn't it. When somebody will not
bend a knee, But in Jim Harbaugh's case, he won't
bend the knee because he's right. The NCUBA toothless without power, gutted,
thankfully came out and has said seven members of the

(11:46):
Michigan staff were doing naughty things. Let me read you
some of the things they did, and then I'll let
you listen to Harbaugh, who's a riot. Yesterday the draft
by the nc double as says Arball can face a
show cause restriction if he ever returns to college sports.
He's not He's gonna go win Super Bowls for the Chargers.

(12:09):
Chargers defensive coordinator Jesse Minter and the dB coach Steve
Klingscale came to the Chargers for Michigan. They're accused. This
reads like a Saturday Night Live comedy skit. They're accused
of violations at Michigan. Here's one of them. Cling Scale

(12:29):
is accused of helping a recruit get verified on Instagram.
That same recruit you could pay a million dollars a
year to play out of high school.

Speaker 5 (12:42):
But this is one of the big ones.

Speaker 1 (12:46):
That the assistant coach got one of his players verified
on Instagram.

Speaker 5 (12:51):
I mean is this a witch hunt or not.

Speaker 1 (12:54):
Another one is allegedly sending text messages to high school
sophomore You mean the same ones Ohio State or Michigan
or Clemson or Georgia could pay six hundred thousand dollars
to legally.

Speaker 5 (13:08):
I mean, you got to be kidding me on this stuff.

Speaker 1 (13:10):
So you can pay a high school player half a
million dollars cash, you can wear shirts we pay players
park Lambeaus in front of the recruiting facility. But you
can't verify an ig account or send a text.

Speaker 5 (13:24):
This is a witch hunt.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
There is nothing in this ruling, nothing that proves Harbaugh
new any of it. He's being punished, honestly because he said, no,
you can't have my cell phone. No, it's nonsense. That's
what he's in trouble for. The Other part of the
draft that I found interesting, it says he did not
identify possible red flags. I didn't know he was the

(13:50):
director of internal affairs at Michigan.

Speaker 5 (13:52):
I thought he was the football coach. What a joke.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
The NCAA's a four gone era. It's a dinosaur Jurassic,
It's a I mean, it's a relic. They have no
power anymore. And this is a witch hunt. Day one
on Jim Harbaugh's Michigan Watch, they were going after him,
and you know who was really going after him? Michigan
State and Ohio State. They're the ones getting all riled

(14:18):
up here as Harbaugh started rolling them. I mean, I've
had a saying for years. I wrote about it in
my first book, Say it out loud. If you're wondering
how you know dangerous something is, how formidable something is,
say it out loud. I will fake mustache assistant, gain

(14:41):
access to rival sidelines to steal signs, something everybody willingly
does in the sport. Yeah, verifying an ig account, writing
one hundred dollars check to a charity golf tournament for
one of the players. Real you want me to be
outraged by that he was a target day one? I

(15:04):
know what my eyes told me. Michigan built a powerhouse
based on all of Harbaugh's career principles. Physicality, intensity, every
day at practice matters. I still don't know what Ohio
State's offense is. It's pretty, it's not physical. I don't
know what Michigan State is either other than a gigantic

(15:25):
tire fire. But I know what Harbaugh's teams are and
I know what Jim Harbaugh is. And yesterday with the Chargers,
he talked about these allegations.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Never lie, never cheat, never steal. I was raised with
that lesson. I've raised my family on that lesson. I
have preached that lesson to the teams that I've coached.

Speaker 4 (15:53):
No one's perfect.

Speaker 3 (15:55):
If you stumble, you apologize, and you may you're right.
Today I do not apologize. I did not participate, was
not aware nor complicit in those set allegations.

Speaker 5 (16:12):
So for me, it's back to work.

Speaker 3 (16:15):
And attacking with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
Mm hm, TICKI tach nonsense for a gutted and powerless NCAA.
If Michigan wanted to send their aggressive attorneys after him,
they'd win hands down. This is desperate, it's TICKI tech.
It's laughable.

Speaker 5 (16:35):
I mean, you gotta be kidding me.

Speaker 1 (16:37):
Verifying an Instagram account, writing one hundred dollars check to
a charity golf tournament. Really, this stuff doesn't even qualify
as level two stuff. It's like level eight fake mustache,
dark glasses on a cloudy day on the sidelines from
an assistant. Low low, low, level one step above grad

(16:58):
assistant whose name is Patio Furniture to get a sideline pass.
I mean, come on, man, you gotta be kidding me.
This stuff is nonsense. Good for Harball. I know what
I see when I watch Harball teams physicality, toughness, resilience.
If you think people really care about this outside of
Columbus and East Lancing, bring up Pete Carroll's name in LA.

(17:21):
Nobody cares.

Speaker 4 (17:22):
It's all.

Speaker 1 (17:23):
He won games, He changed kids' lives, he was optimistic,
he was amazing for the city of Los Angeles. Nobody
cares about the Reggie Bush nonsense. Nobody cares about this
either outside of Columbus and East Lansing.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd Weekdays
and Noone Eastern a EM Pacific.

Speaker 4 (17:43):
Hey it's me Rock Parker.

a favor and listen to Inside the Parker with Rob

(18:08):
Parker on the iHeartRadio app or wherever you get your podcast.

Speaker 1 (18:13):
I saw this. So there's a report this morning that
the Niners have the framework in place with the Cleveland
Browns and the New England Patriots for Brandon Ayuk. So
ask yourself. Jmack does this all the time. Why is
the story getting out? So not only is this story
not getting out, it's detailed. Why would this story? I mean,

(18:37):
they're already saying that the offers for New England and
the offers for Cleveland, they've laid him out. Why Because
San Francisco wants you to know we're on the right side.
We're stacked on offense. He's had one great year, he
still has a year left on his contract. We're not
going to pay him like Justin Jefferson, nor should they.

(18:58):
He's not as good as Justin Jefferson. He's not as
consistently productive as Devonte Adams. I don't think he's as
spectacular as Jamar Chase. He wants to be paid like
a top three or four receiver, and I love his talent,
but I wouldn't pay him when the details are getting
out like they're getting out here, and I'm not saying
he's a bad kid. He's very emotional, he's very young,

(19:20):
he's a wide receiver. I've watched this in my entire life.
But San Francisco is letting you know, we've offered him,
we have him around the facility, we bro hug, we
like him, but we're not gonna pay him what Jamar
Chase is making. We're not gonna pay him what Devonte
Adams makes, and we're not gonna pay him Justin Jefferson's
and they shouldn't because he's got a year left.

Speaker 5 (19:42):
He's been there four years.

Speaker 1 (19:43):
He wasn't like Justin Jefferson or Jamar Chase were immediately popped.
He's not as concissis as Davonte Adams. So this thing
is he's and I'm not saying he's a bad kid.
He's really emotional. And there's a reason myself included whether
in multiple reports that have fluctuated back and forth. I
was told on Thursday he was close to signing. He

(20:05):
was in the building, he had a very good day
around his teammates, and I was told he wants to
do it, but he is up and down. It's very fluid.
That's why you're getting legitimate reporters. I'm not even counting
myself here, like people with the feet on the ground,
reporters all over the map on this story. But you
are seeing now details come out, and details come out
when somebody wants it out and the Niners want it out,

(20:28):
like here's what we're offering. Here are the draft picks.
But I'm on the team side. I said this yesterday.
You weren't here, but I said, if you're talking about talent,
he's great. But if you're talking about valuable, Trent Williams,
who's holding out, is much more valuable. They can win
without Brandon Ayuk. They do not win when Christian McCaffrey

(20:48):
and Trent Williams do not play. Even with Kyle Shanahan,
they don't win. You can win with Brandon Ayuk. He
makes you better, but he doesn't make it significantly worse
if he doesn't play. They drafted two wide receivers. If
one of them can play, Debo McCaffrey, Kittle Jennings one
of the rookie receivers, they'll be fine. This franchise is

(21:09):
built on physicality and brain power. It's nice to have
an over the top receiver. They're great but over the
top receivers Tyreek Hill, Kansas City's better since he left. Okay,
so I'm on San France. I'm on the team side
on this. I can like two things are true. I
can like a receiver. I'm not paying him justin Jefferson

(21:30):
Devonte Adams. I don't care what the market is. I'm
not getting close to that. That's not what he is yet.
All right, so there's a framework in place for a trade.
I'm in the minority on this. I still don't think
it's crazy that he could sign. They're just San Francisco's
like here is if he leaves, we're ready to go.

(21:53):
But Jaymack has talked about this forever. Stuff gets out
when somebody wants it out. One of the sides wants
it out.

Speaker 2 (21:59):
Be sure they can live editions of the Herd weekdays
and noone Eastern a em Pacific.

Speaker 1 (22:04):
You know, I was thinking about this though. I'll hold
this for later. I want to I want to get
to Nick, right, I'm gonna hold this for later. So Nick,
I didn't get to see it, but I walked by
a TV yesterday and Nick was having a borderline tantrum
with mahomes being rated fourth on the NFL Top one hundred.

Speaker 5 (22:24):
He was livid.

Speaker 1 (22:25):
He was using magnets, refrigerator magnets or something. Let's let's
go to Nick right now. He's joining US live. He
was very worked up. I mean, all I know is
you were standing, you were yelling. There were things being moved.
You look like that political guy on MSNBC. You were
moving stuff everywhere. So I want to throw this out.

(22:46):
There's a lot going on. Oh, I was like, Kornaki. Oh,
I'll take that.

Speaker 4 (22:50):
I don't know if you're talking Jim Kramer, I won't
take that. NONACKI Kornaki, I'll take that proudly. Yeah. I
just need the the Khaki pants. Listen.

Speaker 8 (22:59):
It's an outrage and it's an insult, and its further
evidence as to why, honestly, I should be the only
person entrusted to.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Make any type of sports list like you.

Speaker 8 (23:09):
We can't trust the media, we can't trust the players.
I saw you know, we have colleagues stealing my pyramid
and putting Aaron.

Speaker 4 (23:19):
Rodgers at the top. You did a tiers, which I respected.

Speaker 8 (23:23):
However, you had Mahomes and Josh Allen on the same tier.
It should just be left to me like it's a
heavy burden, but one that I will carry proudly and
with the dignity it deserves. And people tried to justify it, like, well,
the voting took place in December. Oh so the voting
for the best football Player Alive took place while Patrick

(23:46):
Mahomes was the defending League MVP, the defending Super Bowl MVP,
and the defending Super Bowl champion, and he came in fourth.
He wasn't even voted the best quarterback, Like if the
players wanted to get kind of hipsterory and be like
Miles Garrett's impact on the game and he's a real
football player and Christian McCaffery Tyreek Hill. Fine, but to

(24:08):
have another quarterback in front of Mahomes is an embarrassment
and it undercuts the credibility of the entirety of the list.
And the list was scattershot to begin with, having Dran
Bland a head of Sauce Gardner. I would imagine that
rightfully enraged Jmack. Having Aaron Rodgers is on the list,

(24:30):
an our guy, Baker Mayfield is off the list. Give
me a break. If you've watched football last year, come on,
there are a lot of problems, but none bigger than
Patrick Mahomes coming in number four and sadly for the NFL.
And this is why it matters Colin. The Chiefs now
simultaneously can be the two time defending champions in the

(24:53):
midst of a dynasty with the most talented player we've
ever seen and under rated, disrespected, nobody.

Speaker 4 (25:02):
Believes in us. That's right, and people can say, Nick,
you're making that up.

Speaker 8 (25:05):
Four of the last five playoff games Patrick Malmes has started,
He's been the Vegas underdog. And now the list is
saying the Niners have nine players in the top one hundred,
the Cowboys have a half dozen, the Chiefs have three,
only one player on their defense which was dominant, and

(25:26):
don't even have the best quarterback in their own conference. Okay,
let's see how that works for the whole league over
the next six months.

Speaker 1 (25:33):
Yeah, it's actually it runs the same course that the
Patriots did, where Brady was called a system quarterback why
collecting rings, and they were always called less talented than
the Ravens. And so I do think in the NBA
we tend to anoint in the media before they deserve it,
and in the NFL we're more critical and cynical after

(25:57):
you deserve it. And I think part of that is
the NFL media is tougher of the NBA media because
it doesn't want to lose access to its four or
five big agents or stars. Tends to annoy Jahn Morant.
You know, he's a kid. He's like a poor shooting guard.
And I'm not just blaming the media, but I think
there is a reason for it, and I think a
lot of it is based on you get a lot

(26:18):
more love as a basketball star in our country early,
probably earlier than you deserve, and you get chopped at constantly,
even if you're a champion. That's how it feels to me.

Speaker 8 (26:33):
Well, I also think there is an urge to move
on to the next thing. Yeah, and even though we're
mahomes is twenty eight years old. I mean, Mike pal,
Mike Florio wrote an article a few weeks ago saying,
mahome this is really what the article said. Mahomes is
twenty eight, which means he turns twenty nine in September,

(26:55):
which means thirty is around the corner. So how much
longer is he going to play? And with respect to
my pal Mike Florio, I don't think anybody's worried about
Patrick Mahomes rick hing, and yes, I do appreciate him
explaining how the passage of time and.

Speaker 4 (27:10):
Aging works for people who didn't know it.

Speaker 8 (27:12):
But there, whether it was post thirteen seconds game, the
American media had kind of decided because Mahomes after that
game lost to Burrow.

Speaker 4 (27:21):
Josh Allen's the guy.

Speaker 8 (27:23):
And then Alan didn't have the year they expected, so
it's like, Okay, Burrow had Joe Burrow, He's gonna be
the guy.

Speaker 4 (27:30):
And then they lost to Patrick.

Speaker 8 (27:31):
And then last year it was like, Okay, the Chiefs
are a wounded animal.

Speaker 4 (27:35):
They lost to the Raiders.

Speaker 8 (27:36):
They can't win, and then despite that them winning the
Super Bowl and going on the road and being underdogs
in the last three games. I think people are tired
of the Chiefs inevitability. But we're just in the middle
of it. It's not the last years of Tom and
the Patriots. We are still in really the end of
the first act of this play. So the urgent see

(28:00):
to move off that I think is full.

Speaker 5 (28:02):
So it's interesting.

Speaker 1 (28:03):
I want to talk about a team in the Chief's division,
so I tend to be I was joking earlier that
in gymnastics, I still don't understand the scoring system. I mean,
it's all subjective. But in sports, basketball, football, baseball, I
get Fox scores and first down markers and there's certain
definitive answers. So I tend to be when it comes

(28:23):
to those sports that I grew up with, like, well,
this has proven, I've seen it. So with Jim Harbaugh.
San Diego College, boom works instantly. Stanford was the worst
program in the country oher to twelve at one point
when he took him over or something like that. Within
two years, good, three years, excellent. San Francisco overnight, Michigan

(28:45):
five wins to ten overnight. I have proof, and in
none of them is he had a great receiving course. Strangely,
they're all built the same way. But we we love
teams with fancy, fast receivers. The Chiefs are better, frankly
without Tyree Kill. It's a fact the Cowboys won more.
Des Bryant leaves Dak's better. Actually, So my take is

(29:06):
I've seen this. He had one receiver at Michigan and
won a national title. They didn't throw the ball. They're
going to be excellent because he drafted, you know, offensive tackles.
Got a bunch of running backs. Why are we doubting
they're going to be great, really fast?

Speaker 4 (29:24):
Well, so there's to be two flies.

Speaker 8 (29:28):
I agree with your premise, and I do think Harbaugh
is a proven, outstanding coach. And I understand that some
people wanted them to take Neighbors at.

Speaker 4 (29:38):
Five yeah, because they already have the left tackle taken
care of.

Speaker 8 (29:42):
I do get the logic of being like, how about
we just simply don't have to worry about our tackle
position either one for the next ten years with Slater
and Alt and it's the type of team you want
to be.

Speaker 4 (29:54):
I get that. I don't think that's bad logic.

Speaker 8 (29:56):
So I understand that the first concern is the planner
fasciitis or planner fascia. Injury for Herbert is always ominous.
And for people that understand this better than me is say,
you know that can linger. So that's a minor concern.
But the other issue he's going to have is Colin.

(30:17):
I think you alluded to it in his career. In
his last three stops, what's the only one he didn't
compete for a championship in because he competed for it
with San Francisco.

Speaker 4 (30:30):
He won it with Michigan. The answer Stanford, and.

Speaker 8 (30:33):
Why because they were not as great as they were,
They were never consistently the best in their own conference. Well,
the Chargers are not going to be the best team
in their own division. And I see you on all
your media outlets flirting with this idea of the Chargers
winning the AFC West because you so you so badly

(30:55):
want to do the thing we just talked about, which
is move on past the Chiefs. I think it's I
think the tough putt is are the Chargers and Justin
Herbert ever actually going to and I shouldn't say ever,
but in the next five years, in the next six years,
going to be better than the Chiefs With Patrick Mahomes
that I have real reservations about. Can the Chargers be

(31:17):
a playoff team? Absolutely can. Harbaugh instantly turned them from
a five win team into a double digit win team.

Speaker 4 (31:25):
If Herbert's healthy, I think that can happen. But I
think it's very, very difficult to make the Super Bowl
if every playoff game's on the road, and if you
don't win your own division, every playoff game is gonna
be on the road. And that's a really, that part,
to me is the toughest thing for Harball to get over.

Speaker 1 (31:41):
So I think let's talk Olympic basketball and Joel Embiid.
So I think you can explain Steph Curry struggling his age.
He struggled at the end of last year. The FOEBA rules,
games are shorter, you don't get the touches. He's out
of rhythm. He's a rhythm volume shooter. Em Bead's different.
So when Phil the front office is terrified to criticize him,

(32:03):
and because he's a great quote and a funny guy,
the media loves him and we blame Ben Simmons for
everything wrong with the Sixers. I mean, he's you could
blame him for climate change, all right, James Harden similarly,
you can easy guy to blame marginalize. But this has
been different. This is now embiad at the Olympics, and
he is in the way. He doesn't elevate others, and

(32:27):
it's got an Aaron Rodgers feel where you could always
blame the Packers' conservative front office. And then Jordan Love
shows up and immediately by November you're like, I think
he's actually better. Let's stop the Aaron Rodgers Tom Brady
arguments it's not close. He's just prettier than Tom as
a thrower of the football. And we talk about Himbiid

(32:48):
in Jokichen Jannis. No, No, he's not athletic like Jannis.
He doesn't elevate others like Jokic, he doesn't defend like
ad Can we just acknowledge the Olympics have been in
a wayakening. We have to take him out of that
group we often say runs the league.

Speaker 8 (33:09):
So listen, that's the I think everything you said there,
unfortunately is fair because listen, I have been an Embiid fan.
I have picked the Sixers a couple times to make
the NBA finals. You know, I admit my You know
if I ad biases, I admit him.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
I think they're they're GM.

Speaker 8 (33:27):
In addition to being a pal of mine, I think
is one of the sharpest savviest minds in basketball. So
I root for I root for Daryl, I root for
the Sixers to a degree. But all those critiques I
feel have been crystallized in this Olympic run.

Speaker 4 (33:43):
Yes, which is he isn't in great shape.

Speaker 8 (33:46):
Now, part of that is you know, circular, which is
he gets hurt so he can't be you know, he
can't do the conditioning he.

Speaker 4 (33:54):
Needs to do, so then he's out of shape.

Speaker 8 (33:56):
But then that leads to more injuries, and so you
wonder is that ever going to get fixed. I thought
some of the quotes he gave were really unfortunate. What
the stuff he said about you know, Lebron and Durant
and those guys. It's like those are your teammates for
these few weeks.

Speaker 4 (34:14):
That to me is odd.

Speaker 8 (34:16):
And the fact that when they put this Olympic team together,
indeed obviously not born in the States, and then theoretically
was going to play for France.

Speaker 4 (34:26):
And then we ended up getting him. It was a
huge coup.

Speaker 8 (34:29):
It was supposed to be the cheat code for this
Olympic team, that we're going to have the size, the rebounding,
the defense to compete with anybody, when we weren't necessarily
gonna have that on this roster without it, and instead
he's been one of the least reliable, worst players on
the team.

Speaker 4 (34:48):
And it is to me.

Speaker 8 (34:49):
I think people and folks can roll their eyes at
me when I say this, but I just think the
data is, the facts are out there from watching the games.
Prematurely disdowngraded Lebron in his stature in the league because
they're like, he's in year twenty, he's in year twenty one.
He's almost forty years old, and when Lebron is healthy,

(35:10):
we're seeing it right now.

Speaker 4 (35:12):
He's still one of the five best players alive.

Speaker 8 (35:14):
And I think they prematurely upgraded in bed without a
single great playoff run, which we've asked for from every
star ever, even if you don't win the championship, just
a great start to finish playoff run, because he is
such a dominant regular season player. But the fact that
the team is flatley better without him playing in these

(35:37):
Olympics is a really tough argument to pull against if
you still want to say he's one of the four
best players in the world.

Speaker 1 (35:45):
Finally, I think I said this earlier this week. Jerry Jones,
owner of the Cowboys, is not terrified of never winning
another Super Bowl. He's got three. He's terrified of your
relevance and Dak Prescott makes you relevant, and Dak's gonna

(36:06):
get his money. It's a weak college quarterback class. I've
already had two executives in the league tell me they
are interested in Dak. He's gonna get his money. That's
my take is Jerry is, you know, as predictable as
you know the Morning Sun. Is that he drafted him,
he found him. I mean, during the anthem controversies, Dak

(36:28):
was there. He's great at the podium. He keeps you relevant.
I think Dak's gonna get sixty five million. You think
I'm nuts, don't you so sixty.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
That part's correct? No, I don't. Here's the thing. I
totally agree with your first point.

Speaker 8 (36:42):
And if I can, I'm gonna steal a line from
a mutual friend of ours, Kevin Clark, and congrats to
Kevin and his upward success and everything he's doing. He
said on his podcast or on some outlet a couple
of weeks ago that if someone came to Jerry Jones
and said, I, gre In t you you win the
Super Bowl this year, and all you have to give

(37:04):
me is that you will never do a press conference again,
he wouldn't.

Speaker 4 (37:09):
Take the trade. And I was like, oh, I agree
with that take. I think that is correct.

Speaker 8 (37:13):
That if Jerry's like guaranteed Jeanie rub on the you
know the crystal, I'm screwing this up.

Speaker 4 (37:19):
What had the genies come out of lamp there. Now
you have three there.

Speaker 8 (37:24):
It is I guarantee you win the Super Bowl, but
you have to cancel your weekly radio hit and you
never do a press come to be like now, I'll
roll the dice. So I agree with that part of it.
Where I disagree is this, if they were gonna pay Dak,
they'd have paid Dak. Had they paid Dak, it would
be easier to pay CD Lamb. They might have been
more active in free agency.

Speaker 4 (37:45):
I think that.

Speaker 8 (37:45):
They are terrified of being locked into a ceiling with
Dak Prescott.

Speaker 4 (37:51):
And I think you're right about the money.

Speaker 8 (37:53):
Everyone that's saying, oh my god, Dak could get fifty
seven fifty.

Speaker 4 (37:57):
Eight million, that is not accurate. It is a.

Speaker 8 (37:59):
Minimum of sixty It is probably sixty five million dollars
a year.

Speaker 4 (38:05):
And I don't think the Cowboys are gonna.

Speaker 8 (38:07):
Pay it because if they would have, if they were
going to, they would have.

Speaker 4 (38:11):
So I think Dak's.

Speaker 8 (38:12):
Gonna play out this year and then become a thirty
one year old franchise quarterback with a true free and
clear free agency. And I've been saying it, I will
keep saying it. I really think Dak Prescott Bill Belichick
package deal to the New York Giants a year from
now is going to happen, and I think Bill gets

(38:34):
the end where he started. I think the Giants get
to rebrand entirely and steal the Cowboys quarterback, and Dak
gets something like three years, two hundred million dollars guaranteed.
And that's where this thing ends up going.

Speaker 5 (38:48):
Yeh, Nick Wright.

Speaker 1 (38:50):
First things first, your your dress get every time they anybody, I.
