I do not have a new hairstyle. It's a it's
aggressively moving it around to a new shampoo.
Speaker 4 (00:43):
For hats what's going on.
Speaker 1 (00:44):
I don't I don't share shampoo on Sundays.
Speaker 5 (00:48):
Excuse me, stick come again. I use shampoo one day
a week, that's all. Yeah, your your hair needs oils.
Speaker 4 (00:56):
It's good for your once a week.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (00:58):
That wow, I'm looking everyday.
Speaker 1 (01:00):
Guy.
Speaker 5 (01:01):
They'll be bald about forty five minutes. I go away
for I go away for like four four days.
Speaker 4 (01:06):
That's it. I didn't see you for four days, and
you're like a whole new person.
Speaker 6 (01:09):
Now.
Speaker 1 (01:09):
Well, no, it's just I think you know, I am,
I'm kind of uh quirky whatever, but I just I
don't you. I use shampoo once a once a week.
Speaker 4 (01:18):
Okay, we'll have to take a poll, is it?
Speaker 1 (01:21):
And by the way, barely any I'm up here, I am.
It's an oil slick. I want it oily and yeah,
I just I'm just telling you this. You gotta take
You gotta be out there a little bit with your yourself.
What are you gonna do during football season? Because I
mean Sundays are tough. At the end of the day,
you're exhausted.
Speaker 5 (01:37):
Can you even get the get the full flow going
in the in the the size of the shampoo.
Speaker 1 (01:41):
I'll worry about it when it happened, when that challenge surface.
Looking out for your pal, all right, So Brandon Ayuk.
According to a report, Mike Garofolo says that the Niners
and and Brandon Ayuk are close. You know, I have
said I thought San Francisco peaked last year, and I
said that before this noisy off season. Now only four
(02:03):
years ago, the Niners missed the playoffs. Remember the Rams
were ascending, they were a playoff team. They had a
couple of key injuries Bosa and Jimmy Garoppolo, and they
had just lost the Super Bowl, a little bit of
a hangover, and they did not make the playoffs and
the NFC was weakening. There's five reasons I'm concerned about
the Niners this year, and I think I think all
(02:25):
of them. I think the Rams are winning the division.
The number one thing I'm concerned about with the forty
nine ers it has been an incredibly noisy off season
and I don't love that. I've been on that for years.
I don't love noisy teams. Number two is they're an
old roster. They have more players thirty or older than
anybody in the NFL. Like that's an issue. Older players
(02:47):
get hurt more often and recover more slowly. The third
reason where in tarn Christian McCaffrey. The last time he
had back to back seasons with over three hundred carries,
the next year he got three hundred touches. Excuse me,
he got hurt. They are I mean he's like a
pitcher going two hundred and seventy five's innings, Like I
just arm fatigue. You can't lean on him like they're
(03:11):
leaning on him. He's getting up there. Number four, I
think the Rams are really good. I think they have
the better quarterback, a younger roster. Again, young players get
hurt less. When they do, they recover more quickly. I
think the Rams are with seven or eight to nine
players just moving into their prime. Plus McVeigh and Stafford
are next to Andy Reid and Mahomes the best coach
(03:34):
quarterback combo in the league. And then number five is
I think the getting was good the last couple of years.
I think the NFC is now younger and better. Packers
last two years weren't a super Bowl threat. They are
now Lions, super Bowl threat. Rams to me, super Bowl
threat Philadelphia. If the coordinators are improved, super Bowl threat
Dallas viable. I think the NFC, even the teams like Washington,
(03:59):
watch out Arizona. I watched them six times last year.
They played hard the Bears no more, no more, you know,
twenty one points and four turnovers. So if the Vikings
finished fourth in that division, they got Pro bowlers all
over the offense. So I'm concerned with San Francisco. I
(04:20):
you know, I don't like Pan receivers thirty million dollars
a year, But the NFC is better. McCaffrey at some
point you just can't keep three hundred touches. I looked
at their schedule, by the way, this morning, they're going
to get some wins early. It's an old team returning
and facing a lot of teams with new players, like
New England. The Jets have, you know, some new offensive
(04:42):
linemen Arizona. But from week Sunday, October twentieth, Kansas City
until Monday, December thirtieth, it is a lot of Mahomes
and dak and Baker and Jordan Love and Josh Allen
and Caleb Williams and Matt Stafford and two that offense
in Miami and Jared Goff And remember San Francisco is
(05:04):
an old team. You start getting into October, November, December.
Old teams get banged up. I mean the Niners the
last three years have had stretches with multiple players hurt.
They're not getting younger, so and they're already banged up
in training camp. They had to literally two days ago.
They're like, we can't even practice with the Saints. We're
too banged up. This is an old team. And with
that we go to Eric Mangini live in New York,
(05:25):
Jets Brown's head coach Fox Sports so, I mean, it's
interesting old teams have an advantage early. You're not teaching
guys tricks. Old teams can fall apart late. Any of
my niner concerns to you land that you work, because
I do think even great teams peak, and I felt like, boy,
(05:49):
they're old guys, Kittle Trent, it's they're long in the tooth.
What say you?
Speaker 7 (05:57):
Yeah, A couple of your concerns really hit. The fact
that they're an old team. That's real, and that's been
statistically proven over time that the amount of injuries with
older teams mount up, and the younger teams not only
do they not get his injured, but they get better
as the season goes on as opposed to getting worse.
I would say that Christian McCaffrey concern is real as well.
(06:21):
The reason he's in San Francisco is because he couldn't
stay healthy in Carolina and he's been remarkably healthy since
he's gotten into San Francisco. But it's hard to imagine
that trend's going to continue. Now that being said, the
forty nine Ers over the last decade have been the
most injured team in the league. They've had the most
guys miss games, but last year was their best year
(06:43):
of that decade. They actually finished out of the bottom
ten in the NFL last season, so maybe they're getting
a little bit better and trying and figuring some of
those things out in terms of keeping the guys healthy.
I don't totally agree with the noisy off season. I
get it with Ayuk, I get it with with Trent Williams,
but there's always going to be contract disputes, especially if
(07:05):
you have this success that they've had. It's not been terrible.
Here's the thing that that the big question mark and
the thing that saves them is is if Rock Purdy
is the real deal, then they're going to be competitive
for a super Bowl for a long time. And everybody's
trying to figure out whether or not the guy that
(07:26):
we've seen is a function of the coaching staff and
the talent he has, or whether or not he's on
that that Tom Brady unherlded trajectory that that we've seen happen,
you know, once in the past.
Speaker 1 (07:39):
So the rookie quarterbacks, I thought Drake may was not
as impressive, but I'm going into this season he's not
as refined the Caleb stuff. You know, it's funny as
a coach who knew personnel you hit on draft picks,
you knew him. It doesn't. I always said, I used
to watch American Idol. I could tell within twelve seconds
(07:59):
and I don't know anything about music. I'd be like
terrible lounge singer. Wow, I could tell I don't know music.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
Is that.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
I watched Caleb Williams make one or two plays, one
or two runs, and I was like, yeah, I've seen enough.
You can I get it. And that's my interpretation, like
you can see magic from a pass rusher a receiver.
I remember Jamar Chase's first game. I'm like, yep, that works.
He's good. What did you make of the young quarterbacks?
But let's start with Caleb Williams.
Speaker 7 (08:28):
I would say if I was a Chicago Bears fan,
I'd be really excited. I'd be really optimistic. I'm sure
season ticket sales have continued to improve, Jersey sales, all
those things, because you've got to see the upside of
Caleb Williams. You've got to see some of the wild plays,
some of the plays that he makes with his feet,
some of the off platform type plays that he's capable of.
(08:52):
I like the fact that he slid on his run.
I thought that was encouraging as well. There weren't false starts,
there weren't quarterback center exchange problems. To the lay of games,
you didn't have the operational stuff, so all those things
were really positive. I'm curious, and I've said this over
and over again. My concern is that he's going to
(09:12):
try to make a play all the time and that
that will catch up. That'll catch up to you. The
guys are too good in the NFL. They hit harder,
they close faster, they anticipate better.
Speaker 8 (09:24):
So as long as he doesn't have to.
Speaker 7 (09:25):
Play hero ball all the time and will will truly
understand that it's okay to live to fight another day
and throw the ball away and have a long, long career.
That to me is my biggest concern with Caleb. But
really optimistic about what you saw in this limited exposure.
Speaker 1 (09:44):
So I want to talk about bow Knicks who and
I've said this, I think Caleb Williams is good enough
to overcome maybe a bad coach. He'll still be productive.
I think the rest of these guys are situational. I
don't think bow Knicks could go to a defensive coach.
That didn't have a feel or a bad offensive line.
I think he and Sean Payton is like that's where
(10:05):
he needed to go. So I was kind of blown away.
He made a throw down near the end zone and
I was like, Oh, that's a real throw. It's a
snap throw quick. I was impressed with Bonnicks. You're a coach.
What did you see?
Speaker 6 (10:20):
What?
Speaker 7 (10:20):
I What I was most impressed by and really most
surprised by, is the fact that Sean let him.
Speaker 8 (10:25):
Throw twenty one times.
Speaker 7 (10:26):
Yeah, I mean you, you typically don't get a rookie
quarterback in his first preseason game throwing the ball that
many times. And over the course of the throws that
he had to make, he was he was pretty efficient.
Speaker 8 (10:37):
He looked in control.
Speaker 7 (10:39):
There were some times where I thought he left the
pocket a little bit earlier than he had to. But
Sean obviously went into the game and said, we're gonna
take a long look at him, and we're not gonna
We're not gonna go in and have him handoff two
times and then throw a screen pass. We're gonna we're
gonna see what he can do. And I thought he
he did a really nice job for his first dire
(11:00):
but in fairness, Zach Wilson I think was seven for nine.
So both guys had a pretty good outing for the
first exposure. It's going to be interesting to see as
we get to this next game, where there's a little
bit more game planning, a little bit more variety from
the defense, asked a little bit more in terms of
(11:20):
what you're giving them offensively, whether or not we see
that same level of efficiency.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
You know, I read a study years ago about Facebook.
You know, people when Facebook came out would go and
they'd rekindle whether their high school or their college flame,
and you know, people that they'd been out with, and
that studies said that there's a reason you left somebody
and that Facebook made you feel like, oh, I'm back
in high school or college. And we do that. We
(11:46):
tend to forget the bad, we remember the good times
in relationships. And I watched justin Fields and I'm like,
I'm trying to be so optimistic. I really am. And
I watched them with Pittsburgh and I'm like, this is
why it drove me crazy. He can't handle the snap.
What did you make of it?
Speaker 6 (12:05):
Yeah?
Speaker 7 (12:05):
I get that analogy, but I do think some relationships
can be more toxic than others. And and sometimes if
you if you get out of a bad one and
then get into a good one, things can look totally different.
And and this is a this is a really outstanding
opportunity for for Justin Fields. But it's it's it's not
all going to get fixed at once. And and Justin
(12:28):
was sacked one hundred and thirty five times over his
first three seasons.
Speaker 8 (12:32):
He averaged ten picks a year over the over that
time period.
Speaker 7 (12:36):
And and there's some some problems that he's got to
work through. You saw the upside, and then there's the
quarterback center exchange problems where you're you're just you're just
frustrated and you want more, uh, from from him who's
played in a ton of games. But in fairness, we
haven't seen Russ either, and and he really benefited, he
(12:57):
benefited from having the exposure, but he also is getting
downgraded because we didn't see how Russ would have done
in that same scenario and whether he would add problems
with that same center or not. So uh, it's let's
let's give him some time. And and and again I
say have a Justin Fields package every single game, an
extensive package, and let him play in addition to having
(13:20):
Russell Wilson play.
Speaker 1 (13:22):
So I was watching just clips. I didn't get to
see it live because I was busy entertaining America on
this show. But I was watching.
Speaker 8 (13:29):
You weren't busy. You weren't busy sampooing your hair. From
what I understand was that only happened. We were not
wasting a lot of time on that.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
So he'll be quiet. J Mac, don't encourage him.
Speaker 2 (13:45):
So I was.
Speaker 1 (13:46):
I was watching clips of Aaron on WFA and in
New York, real popular boarding show, and there was a
moment I thought it was so funny and it was
an earnest question. They let a producer ask a question
to Aaron Rodgers. I guess he'd been itching to ask Aaron,
the franchise quarterback for the Jets, a question. And the
(14:08):
producer asked the question the Malaysian airliner that went down?
Do you think possibly? And they started going into some
internet conspiracy, and I thought I would be mortified if
I went on a popular show and it was labeled
essentially as a guy that buys into conspiracy theories. And
(14:30):
I just thought Aaron's become fifty percent quarterback, fifty percent
podcast guest, and I thought, Oh, this is not where
you want to be. What do you just make of
where he is now?
Speaker 7 (14:45):
I was really high on Aaron Rodgers going to the Jets,
and obviously I went through that experience with Brett Favre
going to the Jets when I was there, and I
think he can be really good. It's just I'm so
frustrated with all the there's stuff that he's bringing and
and Brett was great when we had him. He was
you know, he was part of the team. He was
(15:06):
willing to do whatever we asked him to do. He
wanted to he wanted to be treated like everybody else.
And with Aaron, it's it's always something. It's it's it's
uh mandatory mini camp, you know, that's just an ota
that the preseason games.
Speaker 8 (15:23):
That's not real football.
Speaker 7 (15:24):
It's it's whatever he thinks at the moment is absolutely
right and it is absolutely the way it should be.
And then things can't be as they appear. They have
to be some sort of diabolical plot from the deep
state to to overthrow the government or create world domination.
Like I don't I don't get it. I think he's
(15:46):
I think he's bright. I I just I just don't
get why he has to go there. And I'm you know,
everybody's entitled their opinion and their thoughts. I just don't
know if if this is the most product the thing
for them to win football games this year.
Speaker 1 (16:03):
You know, I have a theory on that, never married,
no kids, extra time on the phone, the two other
conspiracy theorists I think of that. I kind of know,
never married, no kids. My wife. If I if I
suggested to my wife the Malaysian airliner was a conspiracy,
she'd say, sleep on the couch or move. So, you know, again,
(16:23):
it's when you control your own world and your own
narratives and you don't sack. And I know fans like say, oh,
it doesn't matter, but it's like, at some point this
stuff is is it's it feels silly, and he's not
a silly person. It just feels silly, right.
Speaker 7 (16:40):
It does, And he's not a silly person. He he
obviously is right, very bright. But yeah, also, when you're
when you're idolized for so long and and and when
you're you've been elevated because of the things that you've
been able to achieve athletically, sometimes we can all get
a little bit infatuated with with our own our own
(17:01):
ideas and our own thoughts, and uh, it's really healthy
to take a step back and listen to what other
people have to say and and be open to that.
Speaker 1 (17:10):
By the way, not to get personal. When's the last
time you had to sleep on the couch?
Speaker 8 (17:17):
I'm I'm away so often that that I think that
that helps.
Speaker 1 (17:20):
Yeah, j Ma's been enjoying this whole thing. Shots at
my hair, personal questions, coaches.
Speaker 8 (17:28):
I barely recognize you with that new hairdoo. College.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
It's not a new hairdo. It's not I don't it's
not a hairdo. It's just the comb work today, That's
all it is. You guys are making it sound like
all that.
Speaker 8 (17:40):
Oil in there. It probably just sits differently.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
You're making it sound like I had a renaissance in
San Trope over the weekend. The comb moved to the
left more than the right. That's the whole thing.
Speaker 8 (17:51):
Okay, it looks good on you.
Speaker 1 (17:54):
Yeah, sure, thanks, I appreciate that. Eric, all right, the yeah,
you see you you started that thing. You just lit
a match and threw it into the campfire, and now
it's an inferno. Every guest has to you know.
Speaker 5 (18:09):
You know, I made my chops as a disruptor in
the sports media website. So now I'm disrupting the swallow
pre season.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
What did you exactly disrupt?
Speaker 5 (18:20):
Well, I started this thing called a blog and it
really made some inroads with reporting stuff that wasn't out there,
changing the way people kind of get their sports information news.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
And yeah, ten years later, here I am.
Speaker 1 (18:33):
Yeah, you got knocked off the air, off the internet.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (18:36):
Well, I don't remember what happened that time. Recollection of
that whatsoever?
Speaker 1 (18:40):
Couple of a couple of gens in I don't remember anything.
Speaker 2 (18:43):
One more heard. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd
to listen live or on demand whenever you like.
Speaker 1 (18:53):
Fox Sports Radio and Tire Ract giving away a set
of four tires every two weeks this summer. Enter get
rules real easy, go to Fox Sports Rudio dot com,
furnished by tire Rack the way tire buying should be
and has been for forty years. Jmck with a news.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
Turn on the news. This is the herdline news.
Speaker 9 (19:15):
All right.
Speaker 5 (19:15):
The Buffalo Bills have moved on from Step Von Diggs,
their top receiver.
Speaker 4 (19:19):
Also gave Davis number two.
Speaker 5 (19:21):
Guy, he's gone, but they drafted a fella in Keon Coleman,
who's been kind of buzzy on social media. Second round pick. Funny,
very talented. Josh Allen is raving about this young receiver.
Speaker 9 (19:32):
I thought he was kind of a mix between like
a Michael Thomas and a des Bryant.
Speaker 1 (19:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (19:37):
Obviously a big guy, great body, controlling. I think that's
his basketball background. Yeah, but again, he's six y four.
I think he plays faster than what his forty times said.
I know for Buddy Knox for that. But you know,
he's a gamer two and he loves the game of football,
so I'm excited to throw him.
Speaker 1 (19:55):
Yeah, I that position. If he had seventy five catches,
six touchdowns, I wouldn't be suit. Gabe Davis was hit
and miss Stefan Diggs. I thought, like hit a shelf
with him. I don't. It doesn't really bother me. I
think Buffalo is gonna be great. I think they're upgraded
at running back, tight ends. Josh gets better. I think,
you know, I think they're fine. The whole culture there
(20:16):
is sort of defense anyway, Like I feel like McDermott,
it's details little boring sometimes outside of Josh, I don't.
I just don't think Stefan Diggs defined who they were.
I think it's a Josh Allen McDermott defense. That's what
they are.
Speaker 5 (20:30):
Yeah, Coleman, if you remember he started yet started at
Michigan State and was good, and then last year at
FSU he was unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (20:38):
Yeah, make it eleven touchdown catches.
Speaker 5 (20:40):
I think seventy five receptions as a rookie would be
a little bit much better.
Speaker 1 (20:44):
Know if I have Josh Allen look at that schedule,
especially early, there's a lot of wins. That's a lot
of wins right there at Baltimore's brutal at Houston, little
two game stretch.
Speaker 5 (20:53):
But never remember that early season date in Miami. It's
probably going to be one hundred degrees on the field.
Remember was it last year? Two years ago they had
an early season batter.
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Well, it's it's one hundred for both teams.
Speaker 4 (21:04):
I know what. The Miami guys are used to it.
The Buffalo cold weather dudes aren't.
Speaker 5 (21:07):
And they lost that one in Miami a couple of
years ago, that Jacksonville game. You're not going to just
roll over Trevor Lawrence. Okay, they're gonna be real global warming.
It could be ninety five today in Buffalo.
Speaker 1 (21:17):
You don't know anyways.
Speaker 4 (21:19):
So let's say they start one and two.
Speaker 5 (21:21):
Then you've got to go at Ravens at Texans.
Speaker 1 (21:24):
And you just taking a very negative tax.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
No, I'm just a plus.
Speaker 1 (21:28):
They could go they could go one and two, or
they could go to and oh the actually Arizona, just
take Miami.
Speaker 6 (21:36):
To beat him.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
I'll take Miami to beat them in a week two.
Speaker 5 (21:38):
And I think that Arizona game has to be in
the blazon Blase five. Sorry, No, Buscle is like a
seven point favorite.
Speaker 1 (21:44):
Okay for management, do not have to run Blaze in
five week one? Amazing? What it's amazing what a buy
a lunch does at this corporation. You bought somebody by
a little do you buy a little sushi for a
boss and you get out all sorts of stuff.
Speaker 5 (21:56):
It's to show up next week using his superpowers to
pick up a tab.
Speaker 4 (22:00):
Nicely done.
Speaker 5 (22:01):
Next up Albert Breers talking about molite neighbors being a
high maintenance receiver at LSU. Following in the foot depth
of Odell Becka possibly, But on Monday, another report indicated
the Giants decision makers wondered aloud before the draft how
Neighbors may respond to lack of targets this season. Uh oh,
(22:21):
but Giants wide receivers coach Mike grow said he's not
anticipating any problems, adding, any good player wants the ball
and they want to impact the game. I think Neighbors
is easily their best skill position player already.
Speaker 1 (22:35):
Oh yeah, I don't think the Giants you just have
to get him. Let me see the maintenance before we
predict it. They just need a guy who can break plays.
That team needs help. Let's not predict that it'll be
high maintenance. Let me see it. I mean, Brandon, I
you you didn't hear anything for three years. I mean
sometimes I gallop. Yeah, I mean, I don't think elite Neighbors.
(22:57):
When's the last time a rookie came into the league
rookie and was high maintenance.
Speaker 4 (23:02):
Rookie receiver.
Speaker 5 (23:04):
O'Dell Beckham was normal until he made the catch against
the Giants.
Speaker 1 (23:08):
Odell Beckham in l A no issue at LSU, no issue,
Kaflin early New York, no issue. Then all of a
sudden they became a circus in New York and he
became a star. Catch the record, you guys remember, I
don't think he was an issue in Cleveland.
Speaker 5 (23:26):
Baker mayfix well, No, no, he had a little, but
it was private. But neighbors, you gotta have beef with
Daniel Jones.
Speaker 1 (23:31):
Odell Beckham was such a big star that you remember
his maintenance. But I would say LSU none early Giants none. Cleveland,
he and Baker. You didn't hear about it until he left.
In La he had none. Yeah, I don't hear about
Odell's maintenance. I do think he's had moments and stretches
where he got a little over his I mean, he
became the one handed catch was like iconic, and he
(23:52):
got a little into it.
Speaker 5 (23:53):
He's forgetting that he organized the boat trip famously.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
It wasn't his best decision, but it's not.
Speaker 4 (23:58):
The under the bridge now.
Speaker 5 (24:00):
Neighbors, though, I'm just telling you, we know Daniel Jones
is spraying the football all over the field.
Speaker 4 (24:04):
He does not have act.
Speaker 5 (24:05):
He's not good on accurate short passes. Neighbors are gonna
be ticked, by the way, if you've looked at any
Giants or read about their beat, right, They're terrible right
now as a football team.
Speaker 1 (24:15):
Well, where'd you get that at?
Speaker 5 (24:16):
I'm reading the beat writers the reports, like, the offense
is not Chris.
Speaker 4 (24:19):
The defense it looks awful. Well, well, other than.
Speaker 5 (24:22):
Their pass rush, I don't see any redeeming qualities on
this team.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
What's away?
Speaker 1 (24:25):
Yeah, it's not great, so you know it is. We
talked about this briefly yesterday. Think about this, so generally speaking,
the baseball playoffs are gonna have the Dodgers full of stars,
I mean literally loaded full of stars Yankees, So the
baseball playoffs are gonna be great probably.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:41):
I mean you got big. I mean literally, you're gonna
have O'tawny Freeman, Clayton Kershaw, Aaron Judge. I mean, you're
gonna have all the stars in baseball, right, Bryce Harper
is a Phillies star studded team marsh you know, Aaron Nola.
I mean, it's like nine of the biggest stars in
the sport. In the NBA, it kind of hurt when
(25:01):
Jokic was in the final, like the Celtics. You want
big names in the NFL. When I think of the Giants,
think about this. The Bears have been in the toilet,
Washington's been in the toilet. Both New York teams uninteresting,
and the league is setting records with Green Bay, Kansas City, Cincinnati, Baltimore,
and Buffalo crushing That is bulletproof the league. Literally all
(25:23):
the big markets, I mean, LA is good, but they
just moved here, so they're still not as big as
the Dodgers or the Lakers in town. They're ascending, but
it's like the Rams are behind the Dodgers and Lakers
in terms of talking points, and the Chargers are. They're
still bitter in San Diego and they're still trying to
find footing here. They'll get it with Harbaugh. But it
is amazing when you look at the NFL, is that
(25:44):
all the small market teams are carrying the league has
no negative impact. So I mean it's I look at
the Giants and like they'll be bad, and I think
you know, they've been bad forever. I mean, between the
Jets and the Giants, if you combined it, what's it
been like twenty years no playoffs? And by the way,
in that time for stars study at New York, when's
the last time either team was great offensively? They're both aneemic.
(26:05):
It doesn't even matter who the coach is Bulls Gase,
Sala Rex Ryan, and it's just it's amazing how bad
and uninteresting and not just bad. I mean, teams can
be bad, but they can be fun bad. I mean
the Chargers don't have Super Bowls, but they had been
in more close, weird, crazy games than you can The
last decade always been interesting.
Speaker 5 (26:26):
The only thing I keep coming back is baseball one
hundred and sixty two games.
Speaker 4 (26:30):
Literally every week, there's six games.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
There's no urgency, right, there is a basketball eighty two games. Yeah,
NFL is just basically one day week.
Speaker 4 (26:39):
I know, it's like Monday night forever.
Speaker 1 (26:41):
I think the iPhones changed our lives. We used to
not worry about how many games there were in baseball
in the seventies. We weren't distracted. But we're too distracted now.
So if you asked me once a week be in,
it's easier.
Speaker 5 (26:53):
iPhone, Internet streaming, like, there's just so many oppens.
Speaker 4 (26:56):
Everybody thought was not on top in the eighties. It
was not the number one, the no.
Speaker 5 (27:00):
No.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
The more distracted we get, the more scarcity drives your sport.
That's why, by the way, the Olympics, I mean, I
thought the Olympics were dead, but it was like politics
as tribal and ugly. People wanted to smile and feel
good about the country. So it's like the World Cup
set records, COPA set records, Olympics set records. I mean,
(27:22):
it's all that, you know, It's funny. We always hear
about TV's dying, everything setting records, like everything you put
anything on cable, COPA, Euros, WNBA, Olympics. I mean, everything's
setting records. And I think a lot of it is, uh,
you don't get the Olympics much, anything that has scarcity,
and in an election year, it's exhausting. People want something
(27:45):
that's light, fun and optimistic.
Speaker 5 (27:47):
That's like some of these exclusive brands that they just
offer scarcity. Hey, we're only making seventeen of these bags,
right women, you got to come get them, and then
the price goes up and oh, I gotta get one
of those Chanel bags.
Speaker 6 (27:58):
That sounds.
Speaker 1 (28:00):
Say that sounds like something that's happening in your house
right now.
Speaker 5 (28:02):
No, no, no, no, my wife's not about that stuff,
not about that life anyway.
Speaker 4 (28:06):
Final final story.
Speaker 5 (28:08):
Eagles remember last season ten and one awesome start and
then they just collapse, losing five of their final six,
including getting blasted by Tampa, and again they look gutless.
Speaker 6 (28:18):
Well.
Speaker 5 (28:18):
Jason Kelsey has retired the great Center, and he opened
up about the collapse, saying the cohesion was certainly not
there like it was the year before. We completely overvalued
our defensive coordinator and system. Oh sorry, overhauled our defensive
coordinator system, and you saw the downsides of both of those. Offensively,
we probably went too simple and got a little too predictable.
(28:41):
Is that a shot at let me throw this off
the head coach Mike McCarthy survives and Nick Sirianni gets
run after the season.
Speaker 1 (28:51):
I think this thing, why is this the Why is
this the second story that is leaked in a week
on the Eagles? Stuff gets out because somebody wants it out.
Jalen Hurts story by Jeremy Fowler. Why did that get out?
Who wanted that out? That's people protecting their ours? What
is this story? Why is this story? I mean it
seems to me I got two stories on the Eagles.
(29:11):
Stuff's getting out because somebody wants it out. Why. Jason
Kelsey is probably closer to Jalen Hurts than he is
the coach, so he wants to make it sure it's
out there. The cohesion wasn't great. Well, who's that fall on?
Everybody loves Hurts. He gets along with everybody.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
So it's a big year for sirian It is weird.
Speaker 1 (29:27):
I think he's on a much hotter seat than you think.
Mike McCarthy is.
Speaker 5 (29:31):
I mean, we haven't said the name Eberfoos in a
minute on the show. Meanwhile, he's been a disaster as
a head coach. Robas slid total train wreck. Meanwhile, McCarthy
can win twelve gains no extension, Sirianni goes Super Bowl.
Speaker 1 (29:43):
Well Philadelphia. Philadelphia is a more urgent sports city than
like Dallas. Like Jerry, if they win eleven, he'll bring
him back. They fired Doug Peterson, who won a Super
Bowl with Nick Foles. Philadelphia is some sports city. They're
mostly northern cities. There's a lot of urgency, like Boston
fires good people. Remember when they fired Bobby Valentine, you know,
(30:04):
a twelve minutes into the season with the Red Sox,
don't so? I mean I Philadelphia is a very urgent city.
It's driven by the sports talk, the intensity. Philadelphia moves
off winning coaches, NBA, NFL, the Phillies. So I just
think it with Siahanni, coaching in Philadelphia is not like
(30:26):
coaching in Seattle or Baltimore. You know, it's just not
It's not the same. The see it's angry my friends
in Philadelphia. J mcklanews.
Speaker 10 (30:38):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping. That's the
Herd Line News. Be sure to catch live editions of
The Herd weekdays in Noone Eastern nin am Pacific on
Fox Sports Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 3 (30:52):
Hey what's up everybody? It's me three time Pro Bowl
of Levarrington and I couldn't be more excited to announce
a podcast called Up on Game?
Speaker 1 (31:00):
What is Up on Game? You ass? Along with my
fellow Pro bowler TJ.
Speaker 3 (31:04):
Huschman Zada and Super Bowl champion Yup, that's right, Plexico birds.
You can only name a show with that type of
talent on it. Up on Game We're going to be
sharing our real life experiences loaded with teachable moments. Listen
to Up on Game with me Lebar Arrington, TJ. Hutschman, Zada,
and Plexico Burrs on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or

Speaker 5 (31:31):
From Sunday, the NFL preseason kicks off on Fox as
the Saints tick on Brock Birdie and the Niners Well
begin Sunday at eight pm Eastern on Fox, the home
of Super Bowl fifty nine.
Speaker 1 (31:46):
Now you're rooting for the Jets this year because you're
a fan. I'm rooting for Aaron because I think it's
better story. When Matt Stafford goes to the Rams, it's
a great story if he wins. Brady goes to Tampa,
better story if he wins. Let's face it, If Russell
Wilson was playing great with Sean Payton, it's a better
story than restarting with bow Nicks and Russell's career going
to Pittsburgh. I root for quarterback play. I do it
(32:07):
in college, I do it in pro. I like good
quarterback play and what happens if you don't have good
quarterback play after about four weeks, I don't have to
watch your games, so I like to be engaged watch
the league red zone take notes. The Jets are much
better for the NFL and my content. If they're good.
They've been boring and bad forever thirteen years. It's I
(32:29):
want that one o'clock window. Like I said before, I'm
rooting for the Bears. I'm rooting for Washington. I see
the one o'clock window at Fox. I want those NF
I know the late games will be good, the Baltimore,
Kansas City Borough Josh Allen. I know Monday Night Football,
Sunday Night Football, the Fox late game, I know those
are good. It's that one o'clock window watching the red zone. Like,
give me some games, give me some quarterback play. And
(32:50):
I have a feeling the NFL has engineered the Jets
schedule to put Aaron on those late big TV games.
They'll be at one o'clock six weeks and if they're
losing these things, so I want to see it work.
He was on w f A n yesterday they were
doing I guess there. I don't know if the station
of the morning show was at Jets camp, and he
talked about the pressure of playing in Gotham.
Speaker 6 (33:14):
We realize that success and failure is not binary wins
and losses. You know, as a mindset, it's it's going
out there and willing to put your best on the line,
knowing that's not going to be good enough in a
win loss matrix every single time. I've been fortunate enough
to play for two organizations that set a standard of excellence.
Not hey, let's just have a pretty good season, you know.
(33:34):
It's no, let's let's be the best. And I think
that's the less you want to play it, and you
don't want to play in a city where they're just
so excited, you know, win a few games every year.
Speaker 1 (33:42):
Okay, I don't want to be negative, but there is
a difference between the Packers and the Jets. I would
like to state that unequivocally. Okay, those are two different organizations,
all right. So it's not like he's just played for
two similar organizations. One is always great offensively, one has
(34:02):
been anemic for a decade plus. One is always almost
always over five hundred. One is almost always under five hundred.
One has continuity small town America, drafts and develops brilliantly,
and always has an offensive coach. The other is the Jets.
(34:24):
So these are not similar organizations. One's got no owner,
therefore Mark Murphy diligently and quietly runs the team. The
other has Woody Johnson, and it's a bit of a
clown show, very impulsive. Running through GMS and coaches, so
it's not the same environment. Also, strangely, the Jets are
(34:46):
one of the rare franchises that aren't good. Yet the
expectations are always high. The Mets have that. Why would
the Mets be good? They're never good? Right, you have
to go back and talk Keith Hernandez. So, by the way,
this is breaking news. This is breaking news and not
good news. JJ McCarthy Vikings rookie going to miss the
(35:09):
entire season torn meniscus, sources tell rap sheet Ian Rapaport. Disappointing.
It gives McCarthy the best chance of a long career,
though is a year long repair of the torn meniscus.
So bummer. Now, he wasn't going to start. He just
looked very good in the opener. So it doesn't change
(35:33):
what I think of the Vikings. I think JJ McCarthy
will eventually flourish to some level with the Vikings. I
do believe that, and I think Sam Darnold's going to start.
I gotta tell you, the Donald thing is fascinating because
they really do have very nice offense at personnel, and
(35:53):
the Lions and the Packers may be better, but they
don't have great defenses. So we saw Baker Mayfield's career,
Reborn Smith reborn Sam Donald could have that, but I
mean Kevin O'Connell won games last year, Josh Dobbs won
a game without a practice, Sam Donald, and I think
it's a better roster now, they'll win games. So I'm
(36:15):
not gonna guess on injuries. I said yesterday, I got
a text from two players that don't lead me wrong
very often. They were a little concerned that JJ McCarthy
would miss a lot more time than I was predicting.
So he's gonna miss the entire season torn meniscus. Twin
Cities Orthopedics did the surgery and repaired it today. Yeah,
(36:38):
I mean my take is I think they're a third
or fourth place team with Sam Donald. McCarthy was a probably.
You know, if you look at these quarterbacks, Caleb's gonna
start now, Jaden and bow Nicks should be very interesting early.
But Pennix is gonna sit, McCarthy was gonna sit, and
Drake may was gonna sit. So this I mean, I
(37:00):
we kind of feel like a couple of these guys
are gonna play now and they're gonna make mistakes. Jayden Daniels,
Caleb Williams bot Nicks three of these quarterbacks, but there's
three other guys Pennix, JJ McCarthy and Drake May that
weren't gonna play. So this is a bummer. The Viking schedule,
my idea of what they are and where they're going,
doesn't change at all. I think it's a really tough
(37:21):
schedule early. It softens up a little later where you've
got your Arizona's, your Tennessee's, Atlanta's in Chicago again. Uh.
But I think whoever is quarterbacking for this team, Kevin O'Connell,
the tall, Sean McVay, the great thing about JJ's career
(37:41):
and Donald's. Whoever is quarterbacking in Minnesota, you will get
the truest version of who they are. Sam Donald could
blame Woody Johnson. He could if he wanted to blame
Adam Gasee, blame the culture, Blame Todd Bowles. There'll be
no blame for Sam. Darnold is as smart an offensive coach,
(38:03):
great left tackle, two nice weapons, a running back that
can make plays happen, Like you know how sometimes you
know if you fail in life, you can point fingers.
That's all politics is about. It's all pointing fingers. If
Sam Darnold can't get it done here, then he can't
get it done in the league. He had a really
bad pick six at practice yesterday and it was like
(38:24):
Sam Donald, he gives you one of those games. So
whether it was McCarthy or not, you're gonna get a
completely true version of right. It's almost like with McVeigh,
he could get golf to a Super Bowl. He could
get Stafford there to win. That's who they are. Goff
may never win a Super Bowl, but he could probably
get you there a couple of times. Stafford, even with
(38:46):
an imperfect team, can win it. With McVeigh, you get
the truest form of your quarterback. If you're good, you
win a bunch of playoff games. If you're great, you
win super Bowls. I feel like McVeigh does that and
Kevin O'Connell does that as well.
Speaker 5 (39:02):
So the Vikings are now waiting for the league to
rule on the Jordan Addison suspension for the offseason. DUI, yes,
that could be a game two, maybe three.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
TJ.
Speaker 5 (39:14):
Hawkinson, I'm reading is not gonna be ready. They're great
tight end for the beginning of the regular season. They
don't know if he's gonna be back by week three,
the bye week. So now Colin, you're looking at quarterback
goes down, Bajor bummer Jordan isn't going to be suspended.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
That stinks and Hawkinson not ready?
Speaker 5 (39:29):
Is that just too much negativeness to like in preseasons?
Speaker 1 (39:33):
What it does? It actually does Donald and the Vikings
a little favor because this schedule has some l's in
it and now there's no pressure. So Donald's gonna have
a much longer runway. That's good for the entire room.
So I mean, my take is that could beat the Giants,
but they're probably not beating the Niners Houston or Green Bed.
(39:54):
They might It would have become a huge distraction withoud
JJ McCarthy, especially if the way he's playing in pre season,
it would have just hung over the franchise. Now it won't.
Now Jj'll get healthy, he'll come back from this, he'll
be he'll come back hopeful, and Darnald has no distraction
behind him, And so I mean, I think it's not
(40:14):
like a win for anybody that he was hurt. But
what you're gonna get now is there's no question we're
all in on Sam Darnald. There's no talk radio debates. Now,
if Sam throws a couple of ugly pick sixes, and
he will, that's that's his reality final hour coming up
live in La. It's the Hurt
