Speaker 2 (00:20):
This is the Best of the Herd with Colin Cowhert
on Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:28):
Hello, and welcome to the Herd. It's me Jason McIntyre
in for Colin Cowherd. He's on vacation, Ladies and gentlemen,
who knows when he'll be back. I'm joined though, fortunately
by Alex Curry. We are here to chop it up
late August. Alex, And what color is it? Is it
a lime green?

Speaker 4 (00:48):
You know what?

Speaker 5 (00:49):
J Mac.

Speaker 4 (00:49):
Sometimes I just like to feel happy with what I'm wearing.

Speaker 3 (00:52):
And this is full, like happy as my vibe.

Speaker 2 (00:54):
Sae.

Speaker 3 (00:54):
So are you look at you? Yeah? This is a
little flashy, uh, you know, trying to match the sod
the show I found with to Disneyland this week. How
was that?

Speaker 6 (01:04):
Dude?

Speaker 4 (01:04):
Okay, I gotta say this was like a spoiled experience.
It was my first time doing like the VIP.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Oh wow you.

Speaker 4 (01:11):
No, no no. I went with a friend, but like you,
get walked to the front of every single line. So
in eight hours, we did every single ride at California
Adventure and Disneyland in ninety five degree.

Speaker 3 (01:22):
You're basically like coward, one of these bougie coastal elites.
I'm just rich and famous people. Uh oh boy, now
I'm just fun. I do want to do it all right.
So we got a lot to talk about today, some
great guests, but I do want to start with a
guy near or dear to my heart, and that's Lamar Jackson. Folks.
I love me some Lamar Jackson. If you guys ever
played Fantasy, you grab Lamar, it's lights out. You're gonna

(01:45):
win the season. But I want to start with Lamar
because it's something that happened to him this week, and
I'm a problem solver. I like to help. It's kind
of a downfall of mine. You know, the wife will
be like, man, I can't believe this happened, and I
want to solve the problem.

Speaker 5 (01:59):
But I'm not.

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Supposed to try to solve it, right, You're supposed to
just listen. But I have some advice for Lamar. You
can't fix which you can't face. And you guys know
the old media model, right. It used to be that
after the game, the players and the coaches they go
to the podium and they meet the media, and then
the media goes back and assembles their story, puts it
in the newspaper. They're the gatekeepers. Okay, the Internet and

(02:23):
social media kind of changed that, right, So now players
they can go to the podium and kind of bob
and weave and duck the tough questions and ham and hall.
Then they go to their social media and they can
totally change the narrative. They can shape it however they want. Right, So,
I don't know, you have another stinky playoff game, right
as Lamar Jackson did back in January, And you can

(02:43):
just wash that away, eh whatever. Hey here, I am
working out. I lost fifteen pounds in the off season,
you know, and I'm doing all this fun stuff. But
the reality is Lamar Jackson's got a big problem on
his hands and he's got to face that. And the
new model of Hey, I can just control the narrative
social media, or I can go on my Buddies podcast.
A former player and They're gonna toss me a bunch

(03:05):
of softballs. And again I'm changing the narrative.

Speaker 5 (03:07):
Folks.

Speaker 3 (03:08):
We are what eight months removed from Lamar Jackson totally
pooping his pants on national television against the Chiefs in
a massive letdown again and now Lamar went on the
radio this week and he was asked about playoff criticism.
It was a bit of a softball. Here's his response.

Speaker 6 (03:25):
I really don't care what the criticism is. You know
what the critics say, because at the end of the day,
you know, I just came off of a seat in
the injury of the year before and we made it
all the way to the ALC in the new system,
you know, so there's nothing to be down in myself,
my teammates or anything like that. You know, come with
me to far and further than the year than we've been.
You know, we haven't been to the FC in a
long time. So we started off, well, we're getting closer.

Speaker 5 (03:48):
I'll see that.

Speaker 7 (03:49):
You know.

Speaker 6 (03:49):
We got to keep going and you know, guys will
we will be there, you know, because that's how go.
You know, we criticized, We criticized ourselves more than anyone else.

Speaker 5 (03:57):
So what people say on the outside.

Speaker 6 (03:59):
That's their tape, you know.

Speaker 3 (04:02):
Yeah, okay, a lot of words Salad and Lamar. I
get it, and then you move on to the next question.
You know, look at the numbers, folks. Lamar, by the way,
has the highest winning percentage of any quarterback in NFL
history to never win a Super Bowl. He mean, he
hasn't got to the Super Bowl yet. Look at these numbers.
He falls off a cliff in the playoffs, and I know,
winning in the postseason is hard. A great producer Ryan

(04:25):
provided me, Hey, Jay, I know, Lamar's only two and four.
Peyton Manning also started his postseason career two and four.
I get it.

Speaker 7 (04:31):
It's hard.

Speaker 3 (04:31):
It's a tiny sample size. We can't crush the guy.
But when the two most exciting players in the NFL,
you know, without question it's Patrick Mahomes and Lamar Jackson.
Those two guys are at the top of the list.
You never know what Mahomes is gonna do, and Lamar
is just a breathtaking to watch him run and scramble.
That being said, why is one of them stacking super bowls?

(04:53):
Patrick Mahomes three super Bowls fifteen and three in the
playoffs and the other is stacking crappy performances in the
postseason when it matters most, and that's Lamar Jackson, who's
two to four in the playoffs. Folks, some of the
numbers again, people are just glossing over it because they're
not gonna ask the tough questions. Hey, Lamar, you have

(05:14):
three fumbles lost in the postseason. That's as many touchdown
rushes as you have in the playoffs. You want to
look at the touchdown passes six interception six like it's
not great, it's downright bad. Julian Edelman did call Lamar
out this week. That's rare. You'd rarely see player on
player crime, as they call it. You need truth tellers
like me to come out and be like, Lamar, what's

(05:35):
going on? I mean, if I had the opportunity to
sit down to Lamar, you know, I'm sure there would
be some Hey, remember Jay, remember the game plan from
the first time offensive coordinator Monk and not great? Okay,
there's eight flowers fumble at the goal line. Remember that
that was pivotal.

Speaker 5 (05:51):
Okay.

Speaker 3 (05:52):
We do this all the time with Lamar. We bend
over backwards to defend him when the reality is he's
a lot closer to a guy like James Harden or
Joel Embiid totally utterly dominant regular season players, and then
when it's down the crunch time in the postseason, when
it matters most what happens crickets, Lamar has not been

(06:13):
good in the playoffs. That's a fair criticism. And then
you want to drill down and say, why why is
Lamar so inept offensively in the postseason when it matters.
I mean the two wins that he's had, they were
favored in both games. Okay, so they should have won those.
And in the losses, folks, he has never completed in
those four playoff losses more than fifty eight percent of

(06:35):
his passes. Now again, you can well, Jason, it's a change.
It's Spagnolo. He's great. I get it. Okay, fine, you
know what, win some damn games that matter. I had
somebody compare when I mentioned Harden and Embiid and Lamar.
They were like, boy, those guys are They're like every
Netflix series I've seen. They start out amazing and you're

(06:56):
texting all your friends, Oh, the show's amazing, incredible, and
then it sort of just goes nowhere and you're like eh,
and you maybe throw in the towel late. I mean,
if I got Lamar right here on the couch and
he won't do it because he's not gonna take tough questions,
I'd say, Lamar, man, I'm a huge fan. What's going
on in the playoffs. Let's look at this game right here.
I'm going to toss the Chargers rookie year forty eight

(07:17):
percent complete. We'll toss that one out. But look at
the other ones. We know the defenses want to contain
you in the pocket and make you win from the pocket.
Why can you win from the pocket in the regular
season and in the playoffs? Is it nerves? Are the
windows that much tighter? Are the game plans that incredible
from them? And that poor from you guys? I mean,
there's no more excuses, folks. John Harbaugh is a great coach,

(07:40):
and I Ravens fans. I don't want to sound any alarms.
I came here last year and I said, the Buffalo
Bills windows for the Super Bowl is closed. It's done.
Lamar Jackson turns twenty eight in January, and I look,
they lost three offensive linemen. I know everybody's excited. Derick
Henry ooh, Derrick Henry. Okay, we'll see lost the defensive coordinator, lost,

(08:02):
two other defensive coaches, down four I think four defensive starters.

Speaker 5 (08:06):
Folks.

Speaker 3 (08:07):
You gotta wonder is the Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl window closing?
And with that, I want to pivot to a bit
more positive story, shockingly positive, and that's Bill Belichick, mostly
because our new teammate here at Fox, Tom Brady, gave
an interview this week and he said some awesome things
about Bill Belichick. Although I will say some of the

(08:27):
framing online this is what people do. I throw up
an inflammatory headline to get you to click because it's
so tough to get clicks now in twenty twenty four.
But if you actually listen to what Brady said, it
sounds super positive on Belichick.

Speaker 8 (08:40):
Here he is I think, without a doubt he's the
greatest coach to ever coach in the history of the NFL.
And sitting in a meeting room with him for twenty years,
there is no coach that I felt more prepared by
than Coach Bill Belichick. And if I would look at
any of these organizations who have any head coaching vacancies,
Bill Belichick to me is a no brainer. Now, he's

(09:02):
gonna come and he's gonna be authoritative, and he's gonna
have his own way of doing things, and you got
to be okay with that. But when I'm looking at
a coach to prepare a team, he's an incredible coach.

Speaker 3 (09:15):
It leads me to I don't know if this is
a hot take warm take, but is Bill Belichick almost
undervalued now from a coaching perspective? You know, I had
one of the guys in the morning meeting mentioned Greg Popovich,
and I was like, oh, so I looked up Popovich.
Popovich hasn't made the playoffs in five years, hasn't won

(09:35):
a playoff series since twenty seventeen, and yet Papovich gets
like no heat. He's still employed by this burs Yet Belichick,
who won more than Popovic. Yeah, Belichick, who's basically known
as the greatest football coach ever, certainly the best defensive
mind NFL history's ever seen, is suddenly chopped liver and

(09:56):
nobody wants anything to do with him. And I know
Colin will end up bashing Belichick for days on end.
It feels a little harsh. So I went and looked
at the last four years that Belichick had. Okay, seven
and nine with Cam Newton, that was an experience experiment.

Speaker 5 (10:13):
Whatever.

Speaker 3 (10:14):
Then they got Mac Jones and Mack Jones got into
the playoffs. They lost, They got smashed by Buffalo maybe
ten and seven playoffs. And then the following year eight
and nine and again not great, obviously not Patriots standards
set by Brady and Belichick. And then last year they
fell off a cliff four and thirteen, total dumpster fire,
and they run Belichick out of town. I get it. Okay,

(10:34):
the last seven drafts whatever, he's making, mistakes, getting punters
and guards, and just disaster after disaster. Okay, I'd get that.
But America loves a redemption story, guys. They love it
when people rise from the ashes to the top. Remember
Belichick was in Cleveland one there they boot him. I

(10:57):
won't rehash the jet story with Belichick, but he goes
to New England, has drew BLEDSOE then pivots to Brady
and then does the amazing, incredible, super impressive reinvention story.
Lamar Jackson should listen closely. The Patriots folks kept reinventing
themselves during that tenure. They would be a defensive first team,

(11:17):
and they are running the football team. Then they're two
tight ends. Then they go to the slot guys. Then
they got Randy Moss, like they continually were getting creative
and smart. That's say you stay on top for two decades, right,
shouldn't that be commended as opposed to a four and
thirteen horrific final coaching job and a bunch of bad drafts? Like,
at what point does Bill Belichick become undervalued? We went

(11:41):
through some team, folks, this is a little staggering. Here
are some teams that could have coaching openings next year.
The Chicago Bears if Eberflus does not get the job
done and they run him out of town. You don't
want to consider Bill Belichick a guy who knows a
little something about winning. How about this Dallas Cowboys. I

(12:02):
don't know that that's as attractive of a job. But
Jerry Jones, Hey, you haven't been to a super Bowl
in forever. Maybe get a guy who's been to more
Super Bowls than anyone. Just a thought, my Jets will
gloss over them because I promised, you know, my family,
I would not talk about the Jets a lot today
maybe tomorrow. And then a couple of spicy ones, weren't
the Buffalo Bills and McDermott continue to sag, I'm on

(12:26):
record predicting they're like a nine or ten win team
and they run off McDermott, Bill Belichick and Josh Allen Hello.
And then of course there's the Philadelphia Eagles, who are
maybe the spiciest fit of all. I think they're gonna
be great. I don't think they'll run off Sirianni. But
if that job opens, you don't think Belichick would take
a veteran roster and a dual threat quarterback like Jalen Hurts.

(12:49):
Are you kidding me? Somebody somewhere is gonna get Bill Belichick.
And I can't believe I'm saying this, but based on
those Brady comments at the Fanatics FanFest, it's like, Wow,
they kind maybe look at Belichick in a different way.
I think there's a good story here somewhere. Somebody's gonna
get lucky next offseason. So we have a very exciting

(13:09):
show ahead. Alex is gonna regale us with tales from
Disneyland and the vip Act. No, she would not do
that makes everybody jealous. Yeah, gosh, I wanted to do
it's a little pricey, but also hey, coming up steph
Curry and Golden State. Now listen, I've been on this
for a few weeks and something went down this week
that nobody really noticed, and then they're like, oh, wait

(13:31):
a minute, what a little ominous in Golden State. I
don't think we're at def Con one, maybe a Defcon
two or three, somewhere in that range, but that's coming
up next.

Speaker 2 (13:41):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in neon Eastern not Am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app. I pitched the staff
this morning.

Speaker 3 (13:52):
I was like, guys, I know we got some cheese
fans in this building, in our building in New York, Nick, right,
but they're going down this year. They are going down.
There will not be a three peat for the Chiefs.
You can lock that in. I've said it many times.
I'll say it all season. Okay, the Chiefs team is susceptible.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
This year.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
I have got six teams for you. One of these six,
I guaranteed will knock the Chiefs out of the playoffs
or beat them in the Super Bowl. So are you ready?
Here is my Jmax six pack of teams that can
take down the Kansas City Chiefs, there's only six of them.
Let's get started with the Sinson Nati BEng goals. Listen,
they've already done it. Okay, they took them down in

(14:32):
Arrowhead in a magnificent game. They've actually had Patrick Mahomes's
number in the regular season as well. And I think
there's a recipe for beating the Chiefs. You either have
to have a a great quarterback who's gonna make plays.
Allah Tom Brady a la Joe Burrow the only two
quarterbacks to beat Mahomes in the playoffs, right, or you
need an outstanding defense. The Niners nearly got them in

(14:54):
the Super Bowl. I'm telling you, I think the Bengals.
Bengals right now are my pick to go to the
Super Bowl in the A. I think the Bengals can
take down the Chiefs. Next up, let's go to the
NFC Doctor Detroit Lions. Folks, our next guest is gonna
say a lot of positive things about the Lions. I'm
on board as well. Okay, I think this is a
really strong team. Usually when you make a deep run,

(15:17):
people say, oh, there's gonna be regression and pull back
like you said, with the Ravens, not so Detroit, bringing
back basically the entire offense, the defense is improved, and
they kept Ben Johnson. I'm sorry you guys. Don't go
in to Vegas next week. One of my bets last
team undefeated and the Detroit Lions ten and oero is
in play for this team. Get excited, Lions fans. Next up,

(15:40):
let's stick in the NFC San Francisco forty nine ers.
You know it. My guy Rock Party had the Chiefs
beat in the Super Bowl. Ah still hurts, It's painful.
I'm a believer in purty. Now there are some some
red flags or some yellow caution flags, if you will,
with the Trent Williams and what's going on with I mean,

(16:00):
I thought we'd have this stuff resolved by now. But
trust the process. Now, listen, the Niner schedule's tough. Warren Sharp,
I was going through his book last night. I'm just
telling you there's a lot of potholes for the Niners.
I don't think they're gonna eclipse their win total, but
in the Super Bowl they would take down the Kansas
City Chiefs. Next up, I thought we'd save him for
last New York Jets. Yes, it's true. The Jets can

(16:20):
take down the Chiefs. They nearly beat him last year
in the regular season after falling behind like twenty two
to nothing. Anyways, good potentially great quarterback on Aaron Rodgers
and the defense is what I love about this Jets
team having a chance against the Chiefs. Nobody on Kansas
City scares you except Kelsey. Jets really great out well
defending tight ends. I think the offense can do just

(16:43):
enough breasee Hall, Garrett Wilson. I'm sorry, Jets will beat
the Chiefs if they meet in the playoffs. Final two.
First up, Houston Texans. I will admit I was late
to get on this Texans bandwagon. I was slow to
react to CJ. Stroud. I remember fading him in the
opener and saw how wide eyed he looked against Baltimore.
I was like, Ah, there's nothing special. C J. Stroud

(17:03):
was cooking last year. I know a lot of games
were comeback victories and some late game heroics, and they
beat a bunch of bad teams. That being said, this
team's got a lot of talent. The defense is very good.
They got a lot of new faces. I don't think
they'll be great out of the gate, but later in
the season they will And then I'm a believer in C. J.

Speaker 7 (17:20):
Stroud.

Speaker 3 (17:21):
I was late to the party. I apologize to mister Shroud.
He has been amazing. And they add Steph Diggs look
out against City Chiefs. And finally another team that narrowly
lost to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, the Philadelphia Eagles.
I think he's either of them. Are the lions for me?
Coming out of the NFC. I know a lot of people,
Where's the Packers? Where's the Cowboys? This Eagles team Sakwan

(17:44):
Barkley adding a dimension of Christian McCaffrey dimension, if you will,
And I'm sorry the loss of luxurious Snead in that
chief secondary is massive. Who's gonna jam aj Brown?

Speaker 5 (17:55):
Right?

Speaker 3 (17:56):
Who's gonna stuff DeVante Smith on all those crossing rounds?
The Eagles offense is going to be a machine this
year now that they have a real offensive coordinator. I
like the Eagles as my sixth team that can take
down the Kansas City Chiefs everyone else. That's it, right there, folks,
That's it. Other than that, I mean, who am I missing?
Don't tell me the Buffalo Bills, don't I will hear

(18:18):
nothing about the ravens. That's not happening. Those are my.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
Sixth Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
weekdays and noon Eastern not a Empacific.

Speaker 9 (18:26):
Hey, it's Ben, host of The Fifth Hour with Ben
Maller with me and a Locke to have you join
us on our weekly auditory journey.

Speaker 7 (18:33):
You're asking what in God's name is the Fifth Hour?

Speaker 9 (18:36):
I'll tell you it's a spin off of that Ben
Mather show, a cult hit overnights on FSR.

Speaker 7 (18:41):
Why should you listen?

Speaker 9 (18:42):
Picture if you will a world will we chat with
captains of industry in media, sports, and more every week
explore some amazing facts about human nature and more. Listen
to The Fifth Hour with Ben Maller on the iHeartRadio app, Apple.

Speaker 7 (18:54):
Podcast or wherever you get your podcast.

Speaker 3 (18:56):
Back here on the Herd. Boy, what a guest do
we have right now? This guy was just electrifying with
Do you hear the list of quarterbacks he played with
DeShawn Jackson? I don't know what team do you most
associate with, Deshaun Eagles?

Speaker 5 (19:09):
Yeah, man, you gotta say Eagles. When you say to
Shawn Jackson, you gotta say that Philly green Man Eagles,
Eagles Fly Fly, Eagles Fly. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (19:16):
I like them a lot this season. I'm bullish on it.
But let me start with the quarterback thing. So here's
the quarterbacks you played for, Stafford Lamar, Jalen Hurts, Kirk Cousins,
Donovan McNabb, Michael Vick, Foles, and Derek Carr.

Speaker 5 (19:29):
I would ask you to rank them, but I don't
want you forgot one. Maybe you forgot a few more,
but James Weston.

Speaker 3 (19:35):
I didn't forget him.

Speaker 5 (19:36):
M's Patrick.

Speaker 3 (19:40):
So who's the best quarterback? The best pure quarterback you
played with? And you don't have to cape up for
your buddy, just pure quarterback you played with.

Speaker 5 (19:47):
Oh that's a great question, man, I play with a.

Speaker 1 (19:52):
Man.

Speaker 5 (19:52):
Nick Foles is in there too.

Speaker 3 (19:53):
I forgot he won a Super Bowl. I gotta give
him a show.

Speaker 5 (19:56):
The best quarterback? I don't know my favorite? How about it?
Just say my face because I know you said budd Yeah,
but my favorite was Michael Vick.

Speaker 3 (20:02):
Well obviously yeah.

Speaker 5 (20:03):
Growing up, you know I looked up to Michael Vick. Man.
He's changed the game, he's changed the era. You know,
I had the most fun with Michael Vick. I feel like,
you know McNabb. When I first came into the league,
we made some great plays, some deep touchdowns. But I
don't know in twenty twenty eleven, twenty twelve, and twenty thirteen, man,
those those two three years with Michael Vick, I think
you know the deep plays, you know, to start off
the game in Washington eighty r bomb first played Dallas.

(20:26):
I mean, I could go on and on the throwers
that Michael Vick threw to me. So I think I
had the most fun playing with Michael Vick.

Speaker 3 (20:32):
I'll never forget. I walked into Fox one day and
on the dressing room, you know, downstairs, it said Michael
Vick Jason mcintyren. I was like, what, oh my god,
it was so I walk in. I was like a
little nervous. I was a huge VIC fan growing up,
you know. But so let me ask. I also think
your punt return against the Giants is one of the
one of the coolest plays I've ever seen to win

(20:52):
the game.

Speaker 5 (20:53):
At the buzzer.

Speaker 3 (20:54):
Where are you on the Giants? You hate them?

Speaker 5 (20:56):
Right, I don't. It's not necessarily me hating the Johnts.
I think the Giants me. I mean everywhere everywhere I go, Like,
if you're a Giants fan, don't let me be in
New York. They like, man, they can't stand me for
me personally, man, I like, I definitely hated playing the
Cowboys more than the Giants. I mean in the NFC East.
I mean obviously, you know we have rivals the Commanders,

(21:17):
which they wasn't that name when I was playing. You
have them, and you have I mean, not Chicago. I'm sorry,
you have the Giants, and then Dallas. I mean I
had more games heated games with the Cowboys than anybody. So,
I mean, I think when we played the Washington team too,
Laron Landry, we got an heat. I don't know if
you remember that before before the game, he says some

(21:38):
I ain't gonna say on TV. He says, he said
some crazy things to me, you know, before that game,
and it was like very personal. I was like, man,
you're really gonna say that. So we we didn't have
some heating moments versus the versus the Commanders, did you him?

Speaker 2 (21:51):
Nah?

Speaker 5 (21:51):
We personally didn't know each other and I played against
him a lot, but I never like personally had a
relationship with him. So when he said what he said
before that game, I almost was ready to take off
my uniform and throw them things.

Speaker 3 (22:00):
So he was like, don't come across the middle because
he was a hard.

Speaker 5 (22:03):
Hitter, right, Yeah, he was. He was definitely a hard hitter.
But I mean, you know one thing about Laron, he
you know, he played you know, some great years in Washington,
obviously played the LSU, so he had He's coming from
that coach and that that nature that they're physical, hard hitting.
But it's like you just within the game, it's like,
don't get too disrespectful. I think the comment he said
to me before the game was a little too disrespect.

Speaker 3 (22:21):
Okay, let me ask this. H I opened the show
talking about Lamar Jackson and how like, listen, man, I
get it, small sample size six playoff games. He's been
kind of bad in the playoffs and numbers say so
for sure, but like nobody's asking him the tough questions.
And I got to ask you this, like, why isn't
Lamar Jackson winning in the playoffs?

Speaker 5 (22:42):
That's the tough question. Dashaun Jackson got to answer her.
I would, honestly, I personally know Lamar, and uh, one
thing I can say about him, he's very personal. I
mean I think he he has the airs to win.
I mean, I think he wants to win. I know
how hard he works as far as putting it in
on the field, and a lot of people are he's misunderstood,
and I feel like throughout my crowds misunderstood a lot

(23:02):
as well too. You know, people don't really understand you
because you know the way he was raising, the way
he grew up. But at the end of the day,
he plays backyard football. I mean he might not be
all the you know, read the right reason, make the
right throws, but when it comes down to it in
the games on the line, I feel like besides the playoffs,
he's you know, two and three in the playoffs. He
hasn't really quite you know, managed that in the playoffs yet.
But you know he's still, you know, he's still he's

(23:23):
you know, he's still. Yeah, he's twenty seven, I mean
he's still but he's going on the seventh eighth year
in the league. So I think, you know, givem GI
him a little more time. He don't got that much
more time, but just give him a little more time.
But I just think, man, just go out there and
play freedy. The more I mean, I got a great
relationship with you. Man. I know how much you want
to win. I know how much you want to bring
a championship to Baltimore. It's deserving. So I just think
at the end of the day, the pressure, you know,

(23:44):
pressure Bus Price man.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Like you say, played freely and like that Cam Newton,
my guy who whatever, you know, he played freely and
he is like injuries caught up with him by like
thirty two. He's out of the league, right, and like
when you're like Lamar twenty seventy's turning twenty eight and generous,
like how many more years does he? Like Josh Allen's
taking a lot of hits, He's starting to pull it back.

(24:05):
It's just I wonder these running quarterbacks, you know, you
play with a bunch of them. You know, some of
these hits they take, they're not built.

Speaker 5 (24:11):
Like one thing. I will say, Lamar Jackson, I don't
really think he takes a lot of hits. And the
reason why I say that because you know, I played
with Michael Vick and we used to me, me and
Shady and Jerry mcklan. We used to always tell Mike, like, bro,
you got to learn how to slide like Vick cannot slide.
We was at practice and we treatd I played baseball
run up, so we used to try to teach him
how to slide. He couldn't slide. To say, it's like
one thing I would say about Lamar, Lamar knows how

(24:33):
to like not take a hit, And it was it
was mind bothering to me, cause I'm like, wow, Like
I was watching him play. I played the whole year
with him, and he just really wouldn't take a hit.
And the game he got hurt when he hurt his knee,
it was actually off of a sack and his knee
kind of got like cat in a weird way. But
as far as you know, I don't think he's injury prone.
Like I mean, he's suffered a few injuries. But at
the end of the day, I mean, he does know

(24:54):
how to not take a hit. So these other guys
you're talking about, Cam Newton and all these other guys,
I mean, they're bigger and you know they that was
their structure of play. But Lamar, that's he doesn't want
to get hit, and like a lot of times he
doesn't get hit. So I think he has the edge
on not getting hit and you know, being able to
stay healthy. Uh you know.

Speaker 3 (25:10):
Let me go to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and I was
critic critical of Mike Tomlin, and there's there's Steelers fans.
They're passionate and they're all set. Yeah, you know, just
showing this is an offensive league now, and the Steelers
have spending a ton of money on defense. They're the
oldest defense.

Speaker 5 (25:23):
You said the offense elite.

Speaker 3 (25:25):
I don't think it's elite. I mean, I thought you
said they were really well, the defense has been good,
but in.

Speaker 5 (25:30):
You said the offense was elite.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
Oh hell well, sorry, that was that was harsh. By
the way, Russell Wilson or Justin Fields, who you got
at quarterback for them?

Speaker 5 (25:38):
A man, honestly, I like I like Russell Wilson. I
think the past few years has been a struggle. He's
kind of on a decline a little bit. But I mean,
just with the the that deep, I mean, that offense,
I think you gotta go young. I mean, if I'm
Mike tom then I know he's a defensive guy, but
you have to go with the morale of the team,
and the morale of the team is young, and I
just think I'm an Bill young because at the end

(25:58):
of the day, if I if I start Russell, and
don't get me wrong, I like Russell Wilson. But if
you start him and then now you have the locker room,
it's like you can't go back to like going back
to Wressell. If you put Fields in, it's like now
I could build my team around the youth and the
young and we can add pieces to the puzzle. So
I feel like just coming out the gates. I mean,

(26:18):
if you're gonna go with Russell, you can't bring it
back in. If if you go to Fields and then
what you're gonna put Russell back in? So start youth.
I like the youth man, Let's build around Field. What
is he twenty six? He's young?

Speaker 3 (26:30):
Still young? But so why it's weird they went after
Russell early.

Speaker 5 (26:34):
I get it. Yeah, And then.

Speaker 3 (26:35):
Fields was out there like, oh we'll take him too.

Speaker 7 (26:38):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (26:38):
See it's almost like you know, it's that old saying
like you always want that girl, right, and then you
get that girl and then dang, the girl that I
already wanted was in a relationship and now she's single,
So I al really I really didn't want her. I
just got her because that was what was out there.
So the one I already wanted is single now, so
I'm a really you know what, may things ain't working,
I'm gonna go get the other one. So I think

(26:58):
it was just like a marriage that Almo just wasn't
quite ready at the time.

Speaker 3 (27:02):
Yeah. I know you obviously have a budding media career.
Have you ever thought about going coaching or front office
or scouting any of that? Does that appeal to you
at all?

Speaker 5 (27:09):
Man, I'm just living life. I'm blessed. Man, I'm you know,
having some great opportunities to you know, put my face
out here and just kind of just you know, give
a critique about the game. I feel like I know
the game pretty well and played at a high level.
So I just from my perspective, man, I love ball
and you know, I just want to give my insight
on it. But coaching is is definitely a vision of mine.
I just the time right now, fresh two years. You know,

(27:31):
I'm just my second year out, so to go coach
in college or the NFL right now is not what
I want to do. I want my time. But I'm
actually coaching high school football and long beat right now too.
So it's just kind of fun offensive coordinator. So first
game is tomorrow, Man, I'm gonna go out there, and.

Speaker 3 (27:45):
What's I gotta ask? What's like the offensive philosophy you guys?
Air raid?

Speaker 5 (27:49):
Great question, great question. So I kind of implemented like
the old Andy Reid with a Marty morning Wig to
a little bit of McVeigh. You know, I got it's
a pro style, you know, open spread. But you know
one thing about me, I'm a passing you know, I'm
a receiver, right, So I'm big on passing, but I'm
implementing the run. Man, A lot of guys wouldn't know
that I'm implementing the run. Dahan Jackson implementing the run.

Speaker 3 (28:10):
So pass first, that's where the NFL is, That's where
foot is, right, it is, okay, So what do you
make of like the Ravens going after Derrick Henry?

Speaker 5 (28:19):
I love it? Oh, come on, I mean, honestly, you
gotta think the raven style of football is run first.
I looked at it last year, right in twenty twenty three,
there was thirteen and three, Right, they did amazing during
the regular season. What did they do when they got
to the AFC title games? They went away from everything.
They was averaging I think thirty two to thirty five
Russias per game. And then you get to the playoff

(28:39):
game versus a guy like Patrick Mahons, and you want
Lamar Jackson the outthrow Patrick Mahomes. That just doesn't make sense.
So for me, I love the addition of Derrick Henry.
You know, when they had Greg Rohman all these years,
they was a run first offense, and now you have
you know, Exavier Flowers. You have guys like that. I mean,
Bateman is my boy's guy. I love Babmen.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
Man, what's going on with him? He had want to
say hot seat, but like this is a proven year.

Speaker 5 (29:04):
Andreuri's haunted him a little bit in his career. I mean,
I think he's definitely a guy that when he's healthy,
he he'll do great. And uh, you know, I just
think that this year is the make or break year
for him. But you know, man, my boy Nelly, I
actually heard it was an article that I read that
Nelly Lamar Jackson like went off with him like like
twice in one day because he like dropped some long passes.

(29:26):
I'm like, man, you know, Nellie Hans is my dog.
But you know, sometimes his hands ain't as sure they
should be. But uh, I think, man, I think the
Ravens obviously after last year, I think they got to
come back this year. They got to go to the
super Bowl this year. Man, they have to.

Speaker 3 (29:38):
Bro They lost three offensive linemen.

Speaker 5 (29:40):
I mean I understand that. But you bring Derrick Henry
in there. I mean you have you have come on
Derek Henry.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
The rush of Team Fel and Derrick Henry he had
last year in Tennessee.

Speaker 5 (29:52):
You see a J. Brown wanted to get out of here. Yes,
I mean that's that's taking down.

Speaker 3 (29:56):
Feel like you're plugged in with a lot of the players.

Speaker 5 (30:00):
Up that you might not know, they might not This is.

Speaker 3 (30:02):
Why we got you on here. Let me let me
take a shot here. What's going on with the Raiders
and Peers and Adams? Were gonna see DeVante Adams ask
for a trader anytime soon?

Speaker 5 (30:12):
Man, I think he'll sit put. This year. I think
this year is a huge year. I mean, you know,
you got guarder man shoot that's actually been named to
start a quarterback. This year is going to be tough.
I think you know they don't they don't have the
quarterback that they want. I know they wanted to get
a quarterback in that in that draft, and they couldn't
get their guys, so obviously they it kind of defaulted
to who they have. This one's tough because you know,

(30:32):
me and Davante we've talked and and you know, man,
I don't I hate to do it because I don't
want to be the guy that's like, oh d Jack
said this and said that, But at the end of
the day, he is unhappy. I mean, you go from
Aaron Rodgers, then you come to the Las Vegas Raiders.
Now not only Jimmy g you had you had your
boy car right car. It didn't really work out that

(30:53):
you thought, you know from the from the Fresno the
Fresno State days, you think they would come back and
work everything out, and it's just like it just quite
didn't work out. So now I just don't think he's
really that happy there. So this year, I mean, where
you gonna get your production from? Are you? Are you believing?
And Gardner like that?

Speaker 3 (31:09):
Not really, but let's say they're two and six. Do
you think he said, guy, come on, we're going.

Speaker 5 (31:12):
To I'm gonna throw the deuces. Man, I gotta get
out of here, and you know one thing about him
and he's see, Davante is really a nice guy. And
when I say a nice guy, he doesn't want to
be all in the media going crazy and stuff like that.
But you can see sometimes in the games he's getting
very frustrated. Yeah, it's hard for a top receiver and
a guy that's proven like that to sit there and
just not express yourself. So I think this year, like
you said, if they go to and six, it's gonna

(31:34):
it's gonna be something coming.

Speaker 3 (31:35):
Out over ruffle any more feathers. Well, what's going on
with the letters with CD Lamb?

Speaker 5 (31:39):
Are you texting him? Yeah? CD Man, One thing I'll
say about CD. He working his butt off right now.
He's working his tail off, and uh it's deserving, Like
why not pay CD man? Come on, Jerry, I don't understand.
I think Jerry's just trying to play hard right now
because you know it's Jerry's real So at the end
of the day, without without your boy CD, there, without
eighty eight there, Dak, Dak. I'm sorry, man, I know
you want the contra. I know it is deserving, but

(32:01):
I mean, like, Dak, if you go get paid right now,
if I'm dak, I'm like, you know what, take care
of my boyfriendst We'll figure out me after that, because
if that go get paid right now, CD's not in
the building. Who are we, Brandon Cooks, You've been a baller,
You've done some great things. You got Turp and you
got a few other Who are we, Zeke Elliott? Are
we just gonna hand it to Zeke Elliott? I mean,
come on, Ferguson, I mean, you got the tight end.
But I mean I'm just like, what are we gonna

(32:22):
do here?

Speaker 3 (32:23):
It doesn't it doesn't look good for Dallas, I guess,
so stick with the Detroit Lions. So I mean, I'm
not I'm just gonna put this out there. They're great
at the number one receiver. I'm around Saint bron after that.
You know, I like Josh Reynolds, who Josh renods pretty good.
They had a tough drop against the Niners. They don't
really have a two. Is there a world where they
are looking good? Let's go all in. Let's trade for

(32:43):
Devontae Adams. Let's give up a future one like they're
close man.

Speaker 5 (32:47):
Good prediction right there, I mean, if it's possible, I
don't know what what their draft picks look like, or
what their financially situation looks like. But I mean, if
if you could pull that off, I mean that that
makes them because I mean they was in the NFC
Championship game last ye that I think that makes them.
I mean they're still a Super Bowl contender. I would
think I think that will put them over the edge
if they were to pull off that move right there. So,
I mean, that's that's bold. I like it. I didn't

(33:09):
think of that when I was here's another one.

Speaker 3 (33:11):
So again, this is you are inside the locker. You
know all this stuff. So I watched I bet on
the Niners a lot last year. They wont me a
lot of money. Yeah, when they come out of the
tunnel before games, it's Trent Williams and Deebo Samuel leading
the way, dancing, getting everybody hype. Chase Young was in
there now he's gone, yeah, I see all this. Talk
to Sean. Oh, well, just Deebo Samuel's expendable. I don't know, man,

(33:32):
if he's the alpha in that locker room with Trent Williams,
how can you part with him? And tell me, like
your experiences in Philly, who's leading out of the tunnel,
and is there something to that that that's like the
alpha in the locker room.

Speaker 5 (33:43):
Yeah, I definitely like that point on that. I mean,
as far as the alpha in the locker room, I
would definitely say it's it's Debo and it's Trent Williams.
I think they're their relationship is is definitely. You know,
they hang out in the off season, they're they're they're
chilling there, taking trips, they're on a private jet together.
You know, they spend a lot of time. So I
think without Trent being there right now, Deebo's like, man,

(34:04):
my boy's not here. So you know, some insights on
Trim Williams. I've been talking to him a little bit too.
I think they're gonna figure it out and get him
in that building, man, because you know, without your left tackle, man,
it's gonna be hard.

Speaker 3 (34:12):
For us taking a little extended break here.

Speaker 5 (34:15):
See one thing, you gotta think Trent Williams been here before.
He held out the whole season before sitting on the couch. No,
trust me, Trient Williams. He's a freaking nature and I
think at the end of the day, man, he just
wants another two to three years. Man, he wants to
lock it up. He wants to just go be the
best he can be. Man, he's played a lot. You know,
he's been through a lot in his career, you know,
with the surgery and things like that. So I definitely
think it'll work out. But going back to the question,

(34:37):
I think Debo, I mean, he's your guy. Even though
people say Brandon Ayuka is the true number one wide receiver.
I just think the gadgets and just you know, everything
Debo brings to that team. He just makes that team.
He makes that team special without Debo in that locker room.
Like if you don't have Debo and you just have Brandon.
Now I'm not saying they're not as good, but it
just it's a difference, you know what I'm saying. So

(34:57):
at the end of the day, I think they all
stay together. Man, just Brandwyuke. I don't know, Man, just
go play out that eleven million they gave you and
just figure it out after that. I mean, bet on yourself.
Almost you know what I'm saying.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
They're telling me we got to wrap up. But because
you went to cal and I'm a Jets fan, I
was born in New York. I got to ask about Aaron.

Speaker 5 (35:12):
Rodgers, what you're gonna he playing the last preseason?

Speaker 3 (35:15):
No, no, no, no, I'm not.

Speaker 5 (35:16):
I was about to say, first of all, do you
know him at all?

Speaker 3 (35:20):
And I don't know this whole Like he's into conspiracy
theories and he's like, looks keep everything football and then
goes on all these podcasts and talk politics. I'm just curious.
Were you ever in a locker room where there was
some leader and he was just talking about a lot
of non football stuff and you were just like, I
can't vibe with this guy. How does that work? I'm
just trying to get in the Jets locker room and

(35:41):
understand what's happening there.

Speaker 5 (35:44):
Yeah. I mean, I think their relationship with the head
coach Salaz that's that that relationship is a little shaky. Honestly.
I just I don't really see them really merging together.
I know Sata's having a lot of pressure from you know,
the owners and the general measures to get their starting
quarterback out there playing. But at the end of the day,
I mean, this is Aaron Rodgers we're talking about here,
you know what I'm saying. And I think the Aaron

(36:05):
Rodgers that we've known to see. I think he'll be
that this year for that team, And I know the pressures.
They haven't been to the playoffs since twenty ten. We
get it. He has a lot of pressure. Robert Seller
has a lot of pressure from the head of the organization.
But at the end of the day, Aaron Rodgers will
be the guy we know him to be this year.
And I feel like I'm a bet on. If I
got any money, I'm a bet on Aaron Rodgers this year.
When he's forty forty one, I'm betting on Aaron Rodgers.

(36:27):
So the Jets, y'all, stay calm, y'all, stay patient. It's
gonna work out. We don't need to see Aaron Rodgers
in the last preseason game. Hold on, Robert just focused
on defense that a rod focused on offense.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
So I know you're a new TV guy obviously, right
he played in the league recently. Yeah, but these insights,
this is something the top level stuff.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
Yes see, I don't know. I'm said the.

Speaker 3 (36:46):
Word shaky quarterback and head coach, shaky coach on the
hot se.

Speaker 5 (36:49):
Qu Why do you call out your quarterback? You find
him already you did everything. I mean, at the end
of the day, do you really think Aaron Rodgers didn't
tell him he was gonna miss the mandatory camp like
you just think he blew it off and said, you
know what, Robert, I don't respect you enough. I'm not
even gonna tell you that I'm about to miss mandatory camps.
So I feel like you gotta protect your guy. Why
not go in to media protect him? You know, we

(37:09):
talked about it. Aaron said he couldn't be here, he
had personal whatever the case may be. But I just
it's mind bothering because I know Andy Reid, I know
Seanan Bay, I know a lot of great coaches. If
I go talk, tell my coach I got something going on,
regardless if you like it or you're okay with her
or not, you have to give me some respect.

Speaker 3 (37:26):
So why didn't he do that?

Speaker 5 (37:27):
That's my point is Shakey hey man, my boy, Hey
ro he gonna bought this year though, man.

Speaker 3 (37:33):
DeShawn Jackson, Oh my gosh, that was tremendous. All right,
we have to go to break I'm told now. All right,
great stuff. I hope we have you back all the time.
