You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Welcome back to The Herd. Jason McIntyre in for Colin.
Let's bring in our next guest. Jeff Schwartz, former offensive
linemen in the NFL, does the Bear Bets Pod with
Chris Filica, who we took to earlier. Jeff, I know
you're excited for your Oregon Ducks. Obviously you want to
start in college or the pros. I'll let you dealer's choice.
Speaker 4 (00:45):
Do you what you got.
Speaker 5 (00:47):
I'm excited for college football back tomorrow. I have to
find a way to get a few bets done, Jason.
I just couldn't go into a Saturday for college football,
even with a limited menu, and not have something to do.
So I'm excited for football to begin officially. These precy
games this weekend. There's bits and pieces of teams like
trying hard, but the games that I watched Chiefs last time.
I mean the third stringers played the entire game. Like
(01:07):
these games this weekend aren't as much fun as as
the collegetable we're gonna see tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:11):
Yeah, I want FSU to dip down a nine and
a half. I think it's down from thirteen and a
half to like ten. But I haven't seen a nine
and a half. I don't think it'll cross, but if
it does, I'll fire on FSU. I don't know DJU
third stop why not?
Speaker 5 (01:25):
Well, I think everyone's just betting Georgia Tech. That's probably
why too, right. I mean you look at Florida State.
They I think they lost eight thousand offense and I
think seven on defense, and in the eight guys on
offense where they're wide receivers, they're running back, their offensive lineman,
their quarterback. And Georgia Tech's rebuilding into really year two
of Brent Key. But yeah, the number is flying down
because I think publics are just hammering Georgia Tech because
(01:46):
they're saying, hey, Florida State's thirteen oh last year, there's
gonna be a hangover. But I don't think Georgia Tech
has the bodies inside the deal with Florida State Forest
they can rush the passer and he's still some offensive
linemen that are good.
Speaker 3 (01:58):
Totals aren't as fun, but probably I'll hit the over Anyways,
I'm curious, you know this, This Oregon Ohio State game
is being made out to be massive.
Speaker 4 (02:07):
I could sell you on this.
Speaker 3 (02:09):
The loser of that game almost is in slightly better
shape because then they have to say the inside track
on the fifth seed Felika outline that Brad Powers did
that on my pod earlier this week. It just it
feels like not that you can lose that game, but
it's not the end.
Speaker 4 (02:26):
Of the world, the Oregon Ohio State loser.
Speaker 5 (02:30):
It's not the end of the world because the five
seed will presumably get the G five team right where
that's Liberty again, which would have been last year Boise
State or app State or someone sort of in that
in that realm. So and then you get the presumably
easier next game, right because you're playing a quarterfinal game
against the four seed that will most likely be the
Big Ten. This would be the Big twelve champion, right,
So maybe it's a Utah or UCF or Oklahoma State
(02:52):
something like that. But I think Jason, the real hard
part about this new playoff format is the amount of
games you're playing. Right, in the old four it was
two games. TCU gets hot one year, they kind of
win a flute game against Michigan, right, two pick six
is a fourth and two stop, you know, like, and
then you're in the championship game. Yeah, they got boat
raced by Georgia, but you're in the championship game. Right,
(03:14):
Washington last year didn't come out of nowhere, but relatively,
I think nationally unknown, you beat Texas, you gotta win
one more game in this new system. Now, if you
don't have a buy you have to beat you know,
like the Big twelve champion, the Big ten Champion's to
see champion. You have to win so many more games.
Even with the by you gotta win three games. Like
it's Jason, it's gonna take its toll. A lot of
(03:35):
teams that don't have the depth to win three or
four games. Oregon has the depth, Ohio State does, Georgia.
Probably Texas and Michigan has a quarterback, maybe they have
the depth. But outside of that, there's not a lot
of teams around the country that can win three or
four games. So the one seed or five seed. I
think for Oregon Ohio State they have enough depth on
their team to a stand playing three or four playoff games.
Speaker 3 (03:57):
So I'll be in Vegas next week setting up for
the NFL contest.
Speaker 4 (04:01):
I'm assuming you're doing it again.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
I am curious any futures bets for the Natty winner.
I will have Ohio State for sure, but I'm wondering
are you Are you like a spray of the board
kind of guy.
Speaker 4 (04:11):
Three four teams and answer chances? Where are you on that?
Speaker 5 (04:15):
So I'm a mixed on my futures buddy, Like I
the idea of tying up the money always policy. I'm
looking at my sheet. I keep a spreadsheet of every
wager I make, so I know money and money out.
I mean I got I got a good amount of
futures the first year I've had legal sports wager in
North Carolina, so be able to do a lot of these.
I don't have a lot of of win the championship futures.
(04:36):
I kind of mostly I just don't want to bet
on organ I hate doing it. I'm not going to
do it, so I'm gonna keep them out of this.
I have futures to win, you know, to make playoffs
and and to win conferences. But I don't have any
title futures. Again, I think it's three teams though it's
it's it's organ it's Georgia, it's Ohio State, and there's that.
I believe South Point has the the Georgia Ohio State
(04:58):
or the field wager. I would take Georgia Ohio States.
Speaker 4 (05:02):
I don't disagree with that at all.
Speaker 3 (05:05):
Yeah, I think they'll certainly meet in the Natty. Let's
go to the NFL. I saw the big Creed Humphrey signing.
You obviously connected with the Chiefs significantly. Your brother played there.
I know that's the big story, but to me, it's
not the big story. The big story is it looks
like they're going to be starting the second round pick
out of Byu at left tackle.
Speaker 4 (05:24):
Where are you on that?
Speaker 3 (05:25):
I know they were high on him, but that's still
a rookie left tackle for Patrick Mahomes. The interior is fine,
but and Taylor kicking over to the right side looks
I mean, he struggled badly last year.
Speaker 4 (05:35):
Yeah, where are you on this?
Speaker 5 (05:38):
Well, Kingsy Sue Matia has had a good preseason. Obviously,
it's preseason, it's not the regular season. There's things he
needs to work on that he will continue to work on.
But here's the thing, Jason, when you have one offensive
lineman that might need a little help, you can deal
with that, right. You can say Joe Toney, he's back
from injury, should play this season. Creed Trey Taylor, who's
getting paid a lot of money to block by himself.
You four guys, you're kind of on your right. And
(06:00):
then we're going to help Kingsley. So we'll put a
tight end there. We'll formationally do some things. We'll have
run action in his way, like we'll be able to
sort of get him in a position where he's not
on an island very often. And the way the Chiefs
offense operates in most years, I think we'll get back
to this with the addition of Worthy and I Brown's
herp when he comes back is that the Chiefs are
the best offense under Patrick Mahomes on first and second down,
(06:23):
so third down was always third and two, third and three,
third and one, or they skip third down altogether. So
in those situations where it's third and eight thirty nine,
third and twelve, the Chiefs are rarely in those in
most years. Last year was a little bit different because
their offense and function as well. So I think you
can get by with a rookie left tackle because the
Chiefs offense allows them some more outs. Where other teams
(06:43):
you start rookies, you're a lot of third and eight
and you're in trouble. So when you have one guy
like that, you're fine. If you have two or three
guys you have to help, that's where the problems become
just a lot more noticeable.
Speaker 2 (06:54):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in noon Easter nine am Pacific on Sports Radio FS
one and the iHeart Radio app.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Speaking of offensive lines, how is the situation in Denver
for bow Knicks? Who is going to get the start?
But Jeff, I don't know if you've looked at that schedule.
They're facing some real tough defenses out of the shoot,
including McDonald's Seattle defense in lumen Field. That is a
tough spot for bow Knicks. If you remember last year CJ.
Stroud had to go to Baltimore and McDonald put him
(07:25):
in a body bag like it was struggling to read
the defense. I don't want to say I'm gonna hit
Seattle in the opener. I think it's the lines four
or five, but that's just a tough spot for bow Knicks,
but he got the starting job.
Speaker 4 (07:35):
Do you like Denver this year?
Speaker 5 (07:38):
I don't know if like is the right word. That
they certainly are a talented team. I think we saw
from bow Knicks has been impressive so far. Everyone always
does that's against the twos. Well, it should look good
against the twos, right because he's an NFL starting quarterback.
He's what the twelve pick I believe overall, and he
should look good against a second string defense as we're
seeing right now, and so I think that as a positive.
I will say, though, I've been in us with the
(08:00):
things that Denver has done to highlight his strikes. They're
getting the ball out quickly, which he is really good at,
and they're sort of adding his legs and some RPO things,
which are things he did well organed. Now he's got
to work on sometimes going through all his reads. He's
got to work on hitting some deep passes. At times
he has turned down. Some of that has been pressure.
So there's things to work on, But I think so
(08:20):
far you have to be happy with the way Sean
Payne has tailored his offense to bo Nicks. Bo Knicks
does some good things. Are they going to be great
across the board? No, But the one thing I will
say about going to Seattle is we don't know what
Seattle is going to be right, brand new coach, new philosophy,
new things. That their field is extremely loud. I think
it's allows field in the NFL. But Boknick has started
Jason what sixty one college games like he's played at
(08:43):
Washington last year that Colin said was allows game he's
ever been to, right like he's played in these atmospheres.
He's played the SEC for three years. So to me,
the atmosphere is not going to be overwhelming for him.
It's a matter of playing a starting defense now and
knowing that you know, we have things to work on
at offense, and to make it work into week one.
Speaker 3 (09:01):
Earlier in the show, I floated that the Steelers are
kind of in no man's land.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
They're going down for sure.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
I mean this close game luck they've had in the
last three years, like twenty nine, ten and one. You
cannot continue this quarterback situation unsettled, I said.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
I think you should trade TJ. Watt put them on
the market.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
You've got great years out of him, All Pro sack leader,
Defensive Player of the Year, all He's done everything.
Speaker 4 (09:22):
He's also twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (09:24):
He's had a couple injuries the last few years. I
would try to move off him, get a couple first,
and hope that you can get a quarterback in the draft.
I don't know what is that to Steelers Fans don't
seem happy with me right now. But how else are
you going to turn around?
Speaker 5 (09:38):
Well? They have, so the Steelers have to hit rock
bottom to turn around right because as we know, Mike
Thomas done a great job every year of getting his
team to sort of exceed expectations right and get in
the playoffs and have one of all those playoff games
in recent years. But the idea is he see expectations.
This year feels like to I think we're on the
same page. You're like, it's over. I bet see there's
(09:58):
one total under. I bet the total points under this season.
They have two quarterbacks that aren't good, and no matter
how much you try to scream like they're gonna be better,
we know what Russell Wilson is now. Fields guys started
for three seasons. Like we know what Field is already,
and so far in the preseason he's been exactly the
same guy he was in Chicago. And and then the
offensive line. We talked about that throughout the you know,
(10:20):
throughout this so far, like they're they're young, and they
have some good players that are young, like Zach Frasier,
but there's some questions to right tackle with Atanu Hurt,
Like there's just all these things together. They need a
second wide receiver. But besides pickings, I don't I don't think.
I don't think I used at this point will be
traded to them. But you know, so like they have
these issues on offense, adding Wilson and Fields who aren't
that good, and I think this sort of falls apart.
(10:42):
But they're not gonna trade a lot because they're a
proud of organization and they're gonna just sort of ride
the thou as long as they can. They have to somehow,
they have to go like a four and thirteen, and
I don't think it to be four and thirteen, Jason,
but like they need that sort of season to decide, Look,
we have to do something different. Because I heard you
talking about their offense and they're way, they're they're well
behind it, and they hired off in n Oc by
(11:04):
the way, who's like thirty second in pass rates, Like
they just run the like, So they're not going to
pass the ball very much. Gonna be a run first team,
which doesn't really work as much in in twenty twenty four,
they have to hit rock bottom to figure out that
it's not working. They're never bad enough to do that,
So this year that's gonna tread water. They're gonna be
in eight win team, a seven win team in a
(11:24):
tough division, and that's probably good enough to say, hey, man,
like let's tweak some things and next year will win
ten games. But the goal for Pittsburgh is winning super Bowls.
They're not close to that. Cool. They have the fourth
best quarterback room in that division, assuming Watson is a
little bit better. That's not good enough for for division
wins or wildcard spot.
Speaker 4 (11:43):
So trade what right?
Speaker 5 (11:46):
I don't know. I don't know if you can do that.
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (11:49):
Fans would be out right. He's a number one selling jersey,
super popular.
Speaker 5 (11:52):
But it's not even about the fans. It's about the idea.
Like if you're built the way you are now to
win with your defense if you trade what you're admitting
before the season, Like we're out in the season, and
I don't think Pittsburgh's gonna admit that. We might think
that's a good idea because we thinking about the future,
which we should, you know, we're fans, we're analysts, we
think about those things. But in the moment, they're not
(12:13):
going to trade him because they said those like, we're
kind of waving white flog on the season and they're
never going to do that.
Speaker 3 (12:20):
Well, maybe around the deadline, if they're two and five
and sputtering and quarterback rotation, maybe that's in play.
Speaker 4 (12:26):
So we'll wrap up with this one. Then it's just
a little speculative.
Speaker 3 (12:29):
But I saw a report that the Washington trade of Dotson. Yeah,
makes it a little interesting. You said it looks like
the Steelers won't land Ayuk. Well, Ayuk's college quarterback for
a year was Jaden Daniels in Washington. Washington has some
cap space. Brandon Ayuk mysteriously still not signed in San Francisco.
(12:50):
Is there a world where Washington says, you know what,
we got the quarterback on the rookie deal, let's overpay
Ayuk we pair him next to Terry McLaurin, who's excellent,
and let's just let's freaking go for it. Why not
any any shot of Washington landing Brandon I up.
Speaker 5 (13:05):
I like that idea. It's come up before after you
know that they have more ammo to to do this now.
As you mentioned, Daniels and Ayu played well together all
the way back in Arizona State. I just have a
sense that the Niners and and and Bran I understand
that they're best together, like their relationship. And look at
times in life there's relationships that you have and you're
(13:26):
a little bit upset at the other person. You feel
like a breakup is necessary, but you realize, like, hey,
maybe we're best together, right brand ayuk is he's gonna
leave the offense that he has now to go play
in Pittsburgh, Like, seriously, that's what you want for your career.
And I know you're gonna get maybe the most money.
I get that. And the Niners know they need him too.
Look at all the injuries they have right now, Jason,
they can't go in the season with Pierre saw Her
(13:49):
and and and McCaffrey beat up and no Trent Williams
as of right now and then just don't have their
their you know, brend Ayuk as well, so they both
know they need each other I and they work it out.
But if Washington say, hey, we'll give you a first
and a third and we'll give him thirty one million
dollars a year, the Niners might do it for a
first round pick.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
That's spicy.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
And there's no guarantee that Jayden Daniels and even with
Iyuk and McLaurin are going to be like a ten
win team.
Speaker 4 (14:14):
They could still win six names.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
No, they're not there. But I think you say, look,
let's bring in If we bring him in, we have
two wide receivers or offensive line as we is kind
of reshuffling, but it's not bad, it's not as bad
as it's been, and let's get him in this, you know,
get him here. This season is sort of a Jayden Daniels'
rookie year, like you work through some kinks and next year,
with another draft and more freegency, we have everyone sort
(14:39):
of going in the right direction. Like this year to
me for Washington is not about playoffs, just about making
sure that you end the season with Jane and Daniels
playing better than he started this season, so you enter
year two with the firm idea of who he is
as a quarterback.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Yeah, I like that, Jeff Schwartz.
Speaker 3 (14:54):

Saturday on Fox It's a special episode of Fox Sports
Voices honoring the history and legacy of the Negro leagues
and Rick Woodfield in Birmingham, Alabama. Saturday at two thirty
Eastern on Fox.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
All right, let's go to Ryan Music with the news.
Turn on the news.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
This is the headline news, all right.
Speaker 7 (16:32):
Jay mac bo nix has been named the Denver Week
one starter at quarterback after a very impressive preseason. His
play has drawn some high praise from Broncos legends Peyton
Manning and John Elway.
Speaker 5 (16:46):
A great camp, had a great offseason. He's used the time.
You knew his experience, his maturity would be an advantage
for him, and he's picked up the system quickly. You
can tell.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Bow's you know tremendously talent.
Speaker 8 (16:58):
He's played a lot of college football and so he's
you know, he's ahead of the curve when it comes
to that. And I think that, you know, I think
John Peyte will be great for him, and that you know,
the offense and that they're going to run to protect him.
I think the're pretty good in the offensive line and
be able to run the football. So he just got
to remain patient. He'll work that, he'll work to stale off.
Speaker 7 (17:15):
All right, j Mac, how are you feeling about all
this bonnext hype?
Speaker 4 (17:18):
Interesting? I don't remember.
Speaker 3 (17:20):
Do you remember sound bites last year when h from
Lway and Peyton Manning, when Russell Wilson was the starter with.
Speaker 4 (17:25):
Peyton, I don't remember any of that.
Speaker 3 (17:27):
Interesting, How all of a sudden a Sean Payton guy
is getting championed by the local legends.
Speaker 7 (17:34):
Well maybe not last year, but they were all very
high and welcoming to rust when he first came to
Denver two seasons.
Speaker 4 (17:41):
Again with who was the Headiel Hackett?
Speaker 7 (17:43):
That's correct?
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Gross, Yeah, listen, I know Coward's all in on Bonnicks.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
I heard it's all yeah, I mean that's his guy,
and bo Nick sat you're in the studio. Seemed like
a nice dude. His girlfriend or wife whatever, was super nice.
Like I'm rooting for. I just don't see it that oka.
Is that okay to say?
Speaker 3 (18:01):
Like, I don't see six, seven, eight wins from them
this year.
Speaker 7 (18:03):
It's gonna be oh wow, you don't. You don't even
see him as a six win team.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
I think they're over under four and a half or
five and a half. It's one of the lowest in
the league. I don't see the talent that everyone else does.
Speaker 4 (18:12):
But I've been wrong before. It's rare, but it does happen.
Speaker 7 (18:15):
So you you don't even see like.
Speaker 2 (18:19):
CJ.
Speaker 7 (18:19):
Stroud Texans type of Now, he may not be as
talented as c J. Stroud, but that team that everyone's
low on entering the season and then they weigh out
perform expectations.
Speaker 4 (18:30):
Yeah, I don't see that.
Speaker 3 (18:31):
I can see competitive, like fighting and losing twenty seven
to twenty three to the Chiefs and twenty four to
twenty one to the chart like competitive because bo Nicks
is smart and competent. Sure, I I don't think the
defense is really abysmal. I don't know if people have
looked at the depth chart. There's just is not a
lot of talent outside of certain We'll see.
Speaker 7 (18:52):
All right, we'll leave, We'll leave the Broncos hype train
to just call in for now, and maybe you'll end
up having to jump on partway through the season.
Speaker 4 (18:59):
The Falcon, though.
Speaker 7 (19:00):
Their off season spending spree, has continued. This week, they
signed their quarterback AJ Terrell to a four year, eighty
one million dollar extension. Now, Torell did not crack PFF's
top thirty two corners heading into this season. How are
you feeling about all this money that they've been spending
in the off season. You liking some of these deals
that the Falcons have put together.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
Me, I didn't love the Cousins when you followed it
up with Pennix. I don't understand who they were competing
for for Darnell Mooney, Terrell. Yeah, I like them Simmons
sure like they're gonna be good. I like Rahie Morris
going all in. I'm more interested in, like, what's up
with Michael Pennix? Like is he the is he number?
Is he the number two quarterback?
Speaker 4 (19:41):
Week one?
Speaker 3 (19:42):
Because Cousins hasn't played in the preseason and is coming
off the injury I don't know if the process is
there for Atlanta. We'll see, We'll see eight, nine to
ten wins.
Speaker 7 (19:55):
Okay, so you see them more just benefiting from being in.
Speaker 4 (19:58):
A wor the worst division of Ah.
Speaker 2 (20:01):
Interesting, So.
Speaker 7 (20:05):
Why are you so anti the kirk Cousins Peennix dynamic
right now?
Speaker 3 (20:12):
It just it didn't make sense. We're gonna give kirk
Cousins all this money. I think it was like one
hundred million guaranteed and then we're gonna draft Pennix in
the top ten.
Speaker 4 (20:23):
It just doesn't totally add up.
Speaker 7 (20:24):
But do you not like how things worked out for
the Packers and Jordan Love and Aaron Rodgers.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
Well that was a little different because they had Rogers
in the building.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
This was like, oh, we're gonna go out and grab
a quarterback and then we're also gonna draft one top ten.
Like I know, I've said you got to bring in
quarterbacks all the time. But the process, to frankly, why
go after Kirk Cousins. Why not just draft Penis and
start him? He's like twenty three.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
Well, I think for the Falcons, a team that hasn't
made the playoffs in six straight seasons is looking to
try and thread that perfect needle between let's get someone
in the build that's a proven veteran quarterback that we
know is going to make us immediately competitive in a
division that we know we feel very confident that we
can win and just get into the playoffs again and
(21:11):
also set ourselves up for you know, they don't expect
Kirk Cousins to be their quarterback for the next ten years, right,
so why not do what we've seen work for another
team in the NFC and the Packers and have an
option for right now and an option for the potential future.
Speaker 4 (21:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (21:26):
No, it's not the worst plan in the world. I
just the process didn't make sense. I would have rather
just said, let's go Pennix and let's go out and
get Devonda Adams and let's trade for whoever, because we've
got the quarterback on the rookie deal.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
But we'll see. I'm rooting for Penix. I like him
more than Cousins.
Speaker 7 (21:40):
All right now, we're going to do a little track
and field with some NFL flavor here. The Dolphin speedzer
Tyreek Hill isn't afraid to talk trash in his latest
target US track and field start. Noah Lyles Tyreek challenged
the Olympic gold medalist to a race this week. Well lyles,
he responded, He said this, if somebody wants to sponsor
the event, and we're racing for millions of dollars and
(22:01):
it's on a track and we're running one hundred meters,
then sure we can race. But it has to be legit.
Speaker 4 (22:08):
Oh legit, give me millions of dollars to raise Tyreek Hill.
Put it on television. I would watch that.
Speaker 7 (22:15):
But yeah, that's a tune in thing for you.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
Yeah, but I mean, what are you building, like a
one hour show out of a ten second race, because
that's where it is, right, sure.
Speaker 7 (22:24):
I mean, look, you you do maybe a thirty minute show.
I guess you could try and build an hour out
of it. It would be quite short, but maybe some
preliminary events leading into kids some other celebrities.
Speaker 4 (22:38):
Kill against an Olympic sprinter. That's insane, right, You've gotta
go with the sprinter.
Speaker 7 (22:43):
Yeah, yeah, I would agree that. I would go to
Allisles now if it was like because obviously he's trying
to make sure that it lines up with exactly what
the one hundred meter sprint is is like if they
are trying to run it on a football field in pads. Now, Okay,
maybe it's gonna be somewhat more competitive, but yeah, I'm
I'm definitely going with a guy who just won the gold.
Speaker 3 (23:03):
Oh that's say, if Lyle lost to Tyreek Hill, then
it's like fastest man in the world my rear end.
Speaker 5 (23:09):
You know.
Speaker 3 (23:10):
That's like the claim when you win the Olympic gold medal,
I'm the fastest band on the planet. Yeah, and then
Tyreek Hill's just like, I'm gonna smoke you.
Speaker 7 (23:17):
Listen, Tyreek Hill smokes all pro cornerbacks in the NFL.
I don't think there should be that much shame over it,
but I mean, yeah, it would be quite shocking.
Speaker 4 (23:24):
I don't know if I told this story.
Speaker 3 (23:25):
So in elementary school, I was super fast, and I
was like, you know, small fast guy, And so a
couple of us got picked to go to like this
regional track meet, and so we go out there, you know,
and I'm like, I got my swag, and I look around.
I'm like, oh, these kids look a little bigger than me.
And I got smoked. I think I finished dead last
in the one and I was like seventh in the
two hundred, and I walked away like telling my parents,
(23:46):
I thought it was fast and I was just like
nothing compared to these.
Speaker 4 (23:49):
Like regional kids.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
This was in Virginia and it was just one of
those humbling experiences.
Speaker 4 (23:53):
And I think that's probably what'll happen in Tyreek Hill.
Here Ryan Music with the news.
Speaker 2 (23:58):
Well that's the news. Thanks for stopping by the Herd
Line news.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
All right, so we're closing the show.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Best for last, Colin does his Herd hierarchy.
Speaker 4 (24:11):
Oh look, they got a picture for me. Jmax's Top
ten here. I like that.
Speaker 3 (24:14):
Thank you, guys, guys and girls. So let's count them down.
Top ten teams in the NFL. A couple of massive
omissions that you guys are gonna be ticked about.
Speaker 4 (24:25):
But let's go through it.
Speaker 3 (24:25):
Let's start at ten, right, Let's start with the monsters
on the midway. The Chicago Bears. Yes, what a quantum
leap for Caleb Williams. Listen, they had a spectacular offseason.
The big question mark for the Bears is Matt eberflust
to coach. I like the upgrade at OC. I obviously
like the upgraded quarterback. Schedule is extremely favorable if the
(24:48):
defense can stay healthy and Caleb Williams can stay in
the pocket and win and not do too much backyard quarterback.
Speaker 4 (24:55):
Honestly, I think this is a playoff team. I have
them tenth best in the NFL. Yes, tenth.
Speaker 3 (25:00):
Let's go to number nine, the Buffalo Bills. I said,
the Super Bowl windows closing. Short of a trade for
like a defunte Adams, something splashy on the offensive side,
I don't see it. I will be looking at draft
Dalton Kincaid and fantasy he's in line for a monster year.
I just I'm not thinking of the Bills this past year.
(25:21):
They had their spot against the Chiefs at home in
the playoffs.
Speaker 4 (25:25):
They've been waiting for this forever. They get it and
they lose. They fail.
Speaker 3 (25:29):
I know the kicker missed late, but Josh Allen a
little miscommunication.
Speaker 4 (25:32):
Where was Day in the final drive? I don't know.
Speaker 3 (25:35):
Buffalo Bill's ninth best team in the NFL. For me,
Let's go to Numerel eight. Oh yeah, got Green Bay Packers.
I know Calhurt has them like in the Super Bowl
or some nonsense.
Speaker 4 (25:47):
Listen. I like the Packers a lot.
Speaker 3 (25:49):
I've got them narrowly above the Bills here, mostly because
their schedule is a little more favorable. I am concerned
about the loss of Aaron Jones. I think that's significant
and it's definitely being under played. I'm not as big
of a believer in Josh Jacobs, but I like Jordan Love,
didn't love the contract.
Speaker 4 (26:06):
It's not the worst in the world.
Speaker 3 (26:07):
The defense, I think, has seven first round picks starting,
so the talent is there.
Speaker 4 (26:13):
You just gotta wonder which Jordan Love.
Speaker 3 (26:14):
Were we gonna get second half of the season where
he was a excellent or the first half of the
season where it was like, ooh, is this even our guy?
Speaker 4 (26:21):
Let's go to number seven.
Speaker 3 (26:23):
Lucky number seven, not New York Jets, folks. I didn't
shove the Jets down your throat these last two days,
but I'm telling you now, if they beat the Niners
in Monday night football, oh my, I will be more
insufferable than usual. The New York Jets. Everything's lined up, Salah,
Joe Douglas. Get it done with Reddick, get him in camp.
Speaker 2 (26:47):
We need him.
Speaker 3 (26:48):
Jets seventh best team in the NFL at six and
this was close, Jets.
Speaker 4 (26:53):
I had almost at six.
Speaker 3 (26:55):
I got the Houston Texans there. Jets smoked him at
home last year. They get him again this year. Listen,
It's possible that I'm just late to the game on
the Texans. Listen, I was late to the game on Tesla.
I missed out on Tesla.
Speaker 4 (27:08):
Stock it hurt.
Speaker 3 (27:09):
I was like to the game on the Texans last year.
We got a producer here who's a huge Texans. Honk
I bash Stingley all the time.
Speaker 4 (27:14):
He's like Jay Man.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Come on, Houston Texans, sixth best team in the NFL.
Speaker 4 (27:21):
Number five.
Speaker 3 (27:21):
Now, these are the serious contenders. Philadelphia Eagles love the
Sakuon Barkley move. Upgraded at OC with Kellen Moore. I
know that Siriani's on the hot seat, but there's a
reason this team started ten to one each of the
last two years. Just a strong offense out of the game.
Jalen Hurts resurgence pro tip check those Jalen Hurts MVP futures.
(27:43):
Just putting it out there. At number four, Producer Ryan
will love to see this. The Cincinnati Bengals Joe Burrow
back and healthy. Now he is without his OC Bryan Callahan,
he left to coach in Tennessee, but the defense is improved.
Lou Auto Mruno will be much better this year for sure,
and I think worse to first for the Bengals is
(28:05):
certainly in play. Number three maybe too high for some folks.
The Detroit Lions, Yes, coming around. They went to the
NFC Championship game, had the Niners beat They had them,
and then they collapsed.
Speaker 4 (28:18):
I love this team.
Speaker 3 (28:18):
I mean, there's a lot to love about Detroit. Going
to the Super Bowl would be fantastic.
Speaker 4 (28:22):
Number three.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Number two, we'll go with the Kansas City Chiefs defending
Super Bowl champs.
Speaker 4 (28:28):
You're not three beeating.
Speaker 3 (28:29):
We're running out of time, so I'm not gonna bass
you guys. Left tackles an issue, right tackles in issue.
Speaker 4 (28:34):
Chiefs at number two and number one. The best team
in the league.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
San Francisco forty nine Ers, Brock Purdy season, Ladies and gentlemen,
it's here. I just like this Niners team. I think
they win the Super Bowl. You get in there, Trent Williams,
hopefully healthy. Schedule's tougher, so I don't anticipate the forty
nine ers getting like twelve thirteen wins. I think they
(28:58):
paced themselves. And this is a San Francisco forty nine
Ers team that wins the Super Bowl, Kyle Shanahan gets
over the hump, and then you get the brock Purty offseason, Like,
what do we even do with Rock Purty?
Speaker 4 (29:10):
Do we pay it?
Speaker 3 (29:11):
So?
Speaker 4 (29:11):
Those are my top ten teams in the.
Speaker 3 (29:13):
NFL, Ryan any Beef anywhere. I know it's a borderline
flawless list, but surely you see something you don't love.
Speaker 7 (29:21):
Listen, you got the Bengals in the top five, so
I'm not going to have too many gripes there. The
interesting thing is that you had three NFC North teams
but no Vikings, and there.
Speaker 3 (29:36):
Is one team missing from the AFC that went to
the AFC Championship game at home and lost.
Speaker 7 (29:41):
Sure, the Baltimore Raves.
Speaker 3 (29:42):
They cost me some money and I'm still salty, clearly,
but I just I don't I think the Ravens step
back big time, big time this season.
Speaker 7 (29:49):
I have very high on the Bears, too, very high
on the Bears.
Speaker 3 (29:53):
I'm bullish on the Bears. Yes, I got I got
Caleb Williams stock. I mean it's through the roof.
Speaker 7 (29:58):
And I'm not even going to touch the Chiefs verse
forty nine ers thing.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
I'll let you just let me cook. Yeah, exactly, all right,
folks enjoy the weekend. We are dark. Next week we're
back on Labor Day. I can't wait.
Speaker 3 (30:10):
Football right around the corner. Everybody'd be safe out there
in those streets.
Speaker 4 (30:13):
We'll see it soon
