Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 3 (00:27):
Happy Friday, everybody, What is up? It's me Jason McIntyre. Yes,
back for round two. In for Colin Cowherd. I did
not get an update on his vacation, but here's a
huge update. Alex Curry is at a wedding this weekend.
So your voice flying solo except my main man, Ryan

(00:49):
Music producer to the Stars. He is with me today
on Herdline News. I know you can't wait. Fun fact
about Ryan there he is on the screen on FS one.
When I first got a radio show at Fox Sports
Radio eight nine years ago, Ryan was my first producer.

Speaker 2 (01:04):
It's right, Jmax Swimming League. We go back years and years.

Speaker 3 (01:08):
My friend, Yes, it's been a while. He's a big
Bengals fan. I'll try not to needle him too much,
although I did pitch something radical in the morning meeting
that's probably not gonna happen. Anyways, I do want to
start here with the Dallas Cowboys in the Dak Prescott situation,
which remains unsolved. Unbelievable ineptitude on account of the Dallas Cowboys.

(01:29):
And so we're talking about the Cowboys in the morning meeting,
and out of the blue, someone hits me with a
stat that I had never heard. And when you hear this,
it's one of these like knock your socks off moment,
like whoa, whoa? Are you sitting down, folks? The last
time the Dallas Cowboys drafted a quarterback in the first
round thirty five years ago, Troy Aikman first overall thirty

(01:55):
five years. That is absolutely staggering. And in what is
an all defensive league by far, where a quarterbacks the
most valuable position, you know, the face of the franchise,
the most important position in sports. The Dallas Cowboys have just,
you know, not prioritized drafting quarterbacks in the first round.
And we've got a list, unbelievable of the quarterbacks that

(02:17):
Dallas has drafted since Aikman. This is it. This is
the list, folks. At what point does the Dallas media
start to hold Jerry Jones's feet to the fire Bill Musgrave,
the immortal Isaiah Stanback who was converted to a wide
receiver and caught a few passes. You see Dak Prescott
in twenty sixteen. But even look as Dak was having

(02:40):
injuries and aging, look at that. You got to. The
last quarterback the Cowboys drafted was Ben Gucci Denucci, great nickname.
It's seventh round twenty twenty. Okay, Jerry, this is it.
This is all you've done at quarterback since Troy Aikman
and now lo and behold, you're embroiled in an ugly
mess with Dak Prescott, who wants fifty five sixty million dollars. Okay,

(03:05):
far be it from me to criticize someone who has,
you know, won three Super Bowls in the Hall of Fame.
But Jerry, what on earth are you doing? What kind
of program building is this? I just don't understand what
we're doing. And Jerry spoke to the media this week
about what is the latest with Dak Prescott, and here
it is, we're just continuing to talk up.

Speaker 4 (03:26):
The thing is there that since we're really in season,
we're practicing, we're doing all those things, operating under his
existing contract, which.

Speaker 2 (03:36):
Is really good.

Speaker 4 (03:38):
You know. One of the things that app to have
the Black Boots fans to really understand is that in
man time's out of ten, these are existing contracts that
you have in place, and you should be able to
operate on those. And that's what we're doing. But none
of us player our teams wanted to hurt the corporation
or the likelihood of playing at your best.

Speaker 3 (04:00):
Stan hmm, that sounds like a owner who's filling the
heat from fans. I need the fans to understand Dak's
under contract. Good luck. Dak was a runner up for
MVP Award last year. Cowboys have won twelve games each
of the last three years. And here is Jerry and
Dak squabbling. Now the smart organizations, Jerry take notes here.

(04:23):
You know, they're always drafting quarterbacks. The green Bay Packers
had Brett Farv spend a first round pick on Aaron Rodgers.
Worked out pretty damn good. Packers also had Aaron Rodgers.
They said, you know, let's go take a flyer on
this guy, Jordan Love in the first round. That also,
so far early returns are nice.

Speaker 5 (04:40):
Job.

Speaker 3 (04:40):
Green Bay wait to be forward thinking. They had their
squabble with Rogers. They had their squabble with Farv, but
they had a plan in place. Jerry doesn't have a plan.
Look at the forty nine Ers. Forty nine Ers go
to the Super Bowl with Jimmy Garoppolo lead the Chiefs.
In the fourth quarter, they blow the lead, they lose,
and fourteen months later they draft, they trade up for

(05:01):
Trey Lance. Even after getting Lance, they're not done. The
Niners went and took Brock Purdy the following year after
Trey Lance in the seventh round. They're constantly picking Jerry. Oh,
we're good, we got Dak. He's really resting on his laurels.
The dude is he's a blind man walking around without
a cane. That's how desperate Dak and the Cowboys are
right now watching their owner flail around. Listen, Jerry, I

(05:26):
think you have no choice at this point but to
walk away from Dak Prescott. And I know that's going
to be a bitter pill to swallow. And we had
Dave Hellman yesterday talking about how unprecedented this situation is
in Dallas.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
It's unprecedented for your franchise quarterback to not have a
deal and also have the leverage to leave if he
wants to, and I think that is what people need
to remember. This is different because Dak Prescott has a
no tag clause, He's got a no trade clause. The
Cowboys can't keep him there if they if they don't
sign him. So when this season gets going, I think

(05:59):
we would all agree it's is very rare to see
a deal get done in season. So what we're two
weeks out from the start of the season, and if
Dak doesn't have a deal, you can go ahead and
assume he's going to hit free agency in March at
the age of thirty one with an all pro to
his name, And I just think it's going to be
a free agent marketlet that we've rarely seen before.

Speaker 3 (06:20):
I slightly disagree on this robust market that Dave and
others have talked about, but that's that's a story for
later this season. I just want to remind Cowboys that
two things are true. Dak Prescott can be I believe
he is a top ten quarterback in the league, right
That's that's my belief. I think that's true. I also

(06:40):
believe you cannot contend for a Super Bowl paying Dak
Prescott north of fifty to fifty five million dollars a year.
I just that's not possible from a team building standpoint.
So Jerry Jones really has himself in a bind here
by not drafting quarterbacks. Let me think about it. Thirty
five years and you've drafted one quarterback in the first round.

(07:01):
The only team with a longer drought, according to our staff,
is the New Orleans Saints. Okay, is that the company
you want to keep? And Jerry like, come on, dude,
you really botch this. Fix the mess. Now, let's pivot
to the Pittsburgh Steelers. They've got arguably the biggest preseason
game this weekend, only because Russell Wilson is trying to

(07:23):
win or save or hold on to the starting quarterback
job with Justin Fields maybe sort of breathing down his neck.
Here's where it gets interesting. So yesterday I kind of
went in on the Steelers, got a little, maybe a
little antsy, and fired a couple of Salvos, and my
Pittsburgh friends were not happy. These are the kind of
friends who, like you walk in their house and there's
a terrible towel prominently displayed. Well, first, let's listen to

(07:47):
Justin Field's talk about the quarterback situation with Russell Wilson.

Speaker 7 (07:52):
I think I've shown you know what I can do.

Speaker 8 (07:54):
And I said, you know the time that I did
have with the one spike sing King Trady Keb I
think that, well, well, I think.

Speaker 4 (08:00):
You grew a lot.

Speaker 8 (08:00):
You said every day, but at the end of the day,
like I said, it's not up to me. So yeah,
I mean, I'm just gonna come in here every day,
you said every day, the same person being being a
leader for this team.

Speaker 7 (08:12):
And worry MYBTOF.

Speaker 3 (08:14):
I know the kids like to use the word mid
but this is a mid off at quarterback, folks. It
is uninspiring. I don't want to say downright pathetic because
I think still think Fields has some upside in the
right spot, but it is not going well in Pittsburgh.
And I want to tell Steelers fans a quick story
about this small company you may have heard of called Intel.
They were designing and manufacturing computer chips for personal computers

(08:39):
dating back to the seventies, and they were utterly dominant.
Intel ruled the personal computer space seventies, eighties, nineties, and
then smartphones came about, and Intel, this smart company. I'm
talking like on the Mount Rushmore or Silicon Valley. Intel said,
I don't know about those smartphones. Let's with the personal computers.

(09:02):
And you know how that worked out. I mean, practically
every human on planet Earth has a cell phone at
this point except for my kids. That's about it. But
they missed the window on pivoting to smartphones, and that
was a huge screw up on the part of Intel.
They even more recently missed the boat on AI. They're
late to the game. I don't know if you saw

(09:22):
the news Intel lay and off fifteen thousand workers. It's
getting bleak over there. And how does this relate to
the Pittsburgh Steelers. Well, for close to three decades they
have dominated thanks to defense. But the Pittsburgh Steelers, like Intel,
missed the pivot to being an offensive league, and for
reasons that still remain unexplained, the Pittsburgh Steelers oldest defense

(09:48):
in the NFL last season, most expensive defense in the
NFL this season. Mike, what are we doing now? I
know you're not in charge of the roster. That would
be the GM whose name I wrote down here, Omar Kahn.
I would like to give some free advice. You know,
Colin and I kind of patented Jay and C consulting
Jason and Colin. Jason obviously first my idea, it was

(10:10):
a free, free advice coward is you know not here,
So I'll just fire this off. If you want to
turn things around in Pittsburgh and there is no end
in sight the way this team is built, you have
no quarterback for the future, neither quarterbacks signed beyond this year.
Here's a radical idea. Sometimes you need to get radical.
I think you gotta put TJ. Watt on the trading

(10:33):
block and after your heads are done exploding in Pittsburgh,
look at TJ. Watt, just maulings at Burrow. Yeah, he's
just just destroying quarterbacks. I mean, three time Defensive Player
of the Year, twenty nine years old, gonna turn thirty soon.

Speaker 5 (10:46):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (10:46):
He's the most popular Steeler. He makes so many incredible plays.
Look at that interception dropping into coverage. TJ. Watt can
do it all. He is tremendous. So why the hell
would you trade him? Jay, You're trading our best defensive
player because it's not a defensive league. You guys, the
numbers yesterday, every playoff game that they've been to and
gotten smashed in the last six years to give it
up thirty forty points. So what's the point of being

(11:10):
built around defense?

Speaker 7 (11:11):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (11:11):
Trading, okay, fine, trade Minka Fitzpatrick. Fine, But TJ. Watt's
gonna get you two ones. Now. Listen, I know TJ.
Watt is beloved. He's gonna be probably you putting together
at Pittsburgh Steelers all time defensive unit.

Speaker 2 (11:24):
TJ.

Speaker 3 (11:24):
Watt's gotta be on there, historically, great player, game changer,
and you trade them for two ones, even if it's
your team like Atlanta, right, the Falcons seem to be
spending all the money on defend. Hey Matthew, Judah Simmons,
come on down, Hey, Atlanta, we're all in. I don't
know who else is all in? Lions, Jets, Eagles, A

(11:48):
lot of coaches out there desperate. A lot of teams
appear close. The Lions are close to a Super Bowl?
Are they a piece away? Now? Listen, TJ. Watt's gonna
be pricey. You're talking to two number ones at the minimum.
But guess what Pittsburgh needs that desperately. They need the
ammunition to go up and draft a quarterback. And much
like Dallas, Pittsburgh ain't drafted in the top ten a

(12:10):
lot because they like to hold onto the whole. Hey,
we're never under five hundred. Well, you know a lot
of that's got you in the middle. You know what
that means, drafting in the ten to eighteen range, twelve
to twenty twenty one. In that range, you're not getting
any league quarterback that way. They landed Ben Roethlisberger at eleven,
but they're gonna need to go higher to get a

(12:31):
quarterback now as it's an offensive league and Pittsburgh, yeah,
miss the pivot to offense. So I know that's gonna
sound radical. Steelers fans are gonna want nothing to do
with it, but listen, far be it from me to
try to organize your roster and get it. I don't
know up to speed in the modern era, because folks,
I don't like what I'm seeing in Pittsburgh with this
Justin Fields Russell Wilson quarterback battle, Mike Tomlin praising. Did

(12:53):
you hear that after last week he opened the press conference,
I was really happy with our punting. The real thing
that happened. That's how unhappy he is with his quarterback situation.
And let me just remind you guys, your division with
Joe Burrow's offensive minded Bengals, Lamar Jackson's offensive minded Ravens,
and Kevin Stefanski's been the two time coach of the Year.

(13:15):
I think in the last five years. He's an offensive guy.
So Pittsburgh, you can get with the program and put
JJ Watt on the trade block, or you could continue
to be mediocre and hang your hat on. We never
finish under five hundred. Got a great show today, very
fired up, a couple good gambling guests.

Speaker 4 (13:32):
I know.

Speaker 3 (13:32):
We got the NFL on the horizon coming up next?
Could DeVante Adams be added to Buffalo to team up
with Josh Allen? Not as crazy as it sounds, and
I'll tell you why that's next.

Speaker 2 (13:44):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neon Eastern not a em Pacific on Fox Sports
Radio FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 3 (13:53):
Back here on the Herd Jason McIntyre in for Colin
Coward on a Friday Yesterday. We had a tremendous slated
guests and DeShawn Jackson, the former wide receiver, really came
through with some spicy takes. I mean, I was like, geez,
was this a hot take happy hour? He was firing
on all cylinders. I personally loved it, and he said

(14:13):
some stuff about the Raiders that was kind of interesting. Obviously,
DeShawn Jackson recently retired. I think he's been out the
league for two years, but he's very plugged in. Talks
to a lot of players. And last season we saw
Devonte Adams with the Raiders kind of unhappy throughout the season,
and could you blame him? Like the Garoppolo thing didn't work.
Then you had the backup quarterback situation unfolding, you had

(14:35):
fired Josh McDaniels, you know, from going from the stable
Green Bay Packers to the disastrous Las Vegas Raiders. I'm
sure Devanta Adams just not having fun. He went there
thinking Derek Carr was going to be his guy, as
they were buddies back in college. It didn't really work out.
So here's DeShawn Jackson on my hypothetical that maybe Devonte

(14:55):
Adams ends up getting traded sooner than later.

Speaker 5 (14:59):
This was tough.

Speaker 9 (15:00):
You know, me and DeVante we've talked, and you know, man,
I don't I hate to do it because I don't
want to be the guy that's like, oh d Jack
said this and said that, but at the end of the.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Day he is unhappy.

Speaker 9 (15:10):
I mean, you go from Aaron Rodgers, then you come
to the Las Vegas Raiders, and now not only Jimmy
g you had you had your boy car it just
quite didn't work out. So now I just don't think
he's ready that happy here. So this year, I mean,
where are you gonna get your production from?

Speaker 7 (15:26):
Are you?

Speaker 5 (15:26):
Are you believing?

Speaker 7 (15:27):
And Gardner like that.

Speaker 3 (15:30):
The answer is no. Now listen on my podcast, I
did go a little in depth and think there's a
world where the Raiders are competitive. Don't confuse that with good.
Competitive is like Arizona Cardinals last year. Not a good team,
but they're gonna be frisky and they're gonna be such
big underdogs in so many games that there's value em
betting on them. Here's my thing. I don't know what
to make of the Raiders because Antonio Pierce is a

(15:52):
defensive guy. Very raw Raw got them all geeked up
last year to be competitive at the end of the season.
I remember they famously beat the Chiefs on Christmas Day,
But like, what are they gonna look like this year?
Gardner Minshew at quarterback. He's probably gonna try to play
it safe, don't turn the ball over. How do we
know that? As soon as AOC threw a pick six

(16:12):
last weekend, you know, Antonio Pierce comes out instantly. All right,
we got our quarterback. It's the guy who didn't throw
the pick six. Although Minshew has been a bit of
a turnover machine at times. So then you're like, okay,
they're running back. Stink Josh Jacobs is gone. They've drafted
a tight end in the first round or first or
second round two of the last three years. Are we
going to be a run heavy team? And then there's

(16:33):
DeVante Adams over here in the corner. Guys, guys, can
you get me the ball? And I'm just gonna quickly
look at the schedule and folks, six of their first
nine games the Raiders face playoff teams from a year ago,
and the other three are justin Herbert Bryce Young should
be a dub and the Denver Broncos and bow Nicks
Colin Cowherd to do favorite team. Look at that leading

(16:54):
up to the buy at the Rams versus the Chiefs
at the Bengals. Folks, that's a murderer's row. You go
into the by no momentum, no dubs, and as such,
I am of the belief that DeVante Adams will be
dangled at the trade deadline, and I think he'll actually
be shipped if we're looking at like a two and
seven squad. Here are my teams where Devonte Adams could

(17:18):
end up, and I think you have to start with
the Detroit Lions, who have Super Bowl aspirations, and we're
looking at Amara Saint Brown and then some question marks
at receiver. They've got a ton of cap room. I
think I saw thirty seven million or something insane like that,
so they've got room to spend. I think they could
be in play for a defender. But man Davante Adams

(17:39):
in that offense, he's still an elite route runner. I
see he turns thirty two in December. Obviously that's getting
up there, but he's still a very good possession receiver
and i'd like to see him play in the postseason.
Next up the Buffalo Bills. Now you guys know I'm
not a huge Bills guy. This season, they lose digs.
They seem hell bent on making Dalton Kincaid like a
one hundred yard reception tight end. A lot of optimism

(18:00):
around Shakur, but he ain't drawn double teams. You know,
you want to loosen up that box and get people
to respect you. You go get Devonte Adams. Next up. Eh,
not really feeling it, But why not Pittsburgh Steelers. I
think they listen. They've been trying the hardest hell to
get Brandon n Ayuk. Why wouldn't they be in on DeVante Adams.
It feels like the Steelers. I said Jerry Jones was

(18:22):
a blind guy walking around without a cane. Feels like
the Steelers are kind of doing that, Like, what are
you doing? Get Nyuk? Well, while you're at it, you
said you whiffed on him. I'm gonna make a run
at Devonte Adams next up. This one makes a lot
of sense if they're good. The LA Chargers and their
wide receiver room is greatly depleted. Keenan Allen gone, Mike

(18:42):
Williams gone. I know they were injury prone, Gerald Everett gone.
And so the new guy is lad Mconkey, young kid
out of Georgia. I don't think anybody thinks he's a one,
but he can be a very good two. Now you
go get Devanta Adams I know in the division, probably
not gonna happen. Herbert Adams, mcconkee, Harbaugh, folks. Now the

(19:02):
Chargers are looking a little dangerous, and finally I had
to do it.

Speaker 5 (19:06):
I had to.

Speaker 3 (19:06):
I'm more of my Jets green today. The New York Jets.
Mike Williams by the way, coming off the ACL unclear
if he's gonna be ready for week one, Like, come on,
it's already starting. But Garrett Wilson, DeVante Adams team's up
with Aaron Rodgers his guy. Now I listen, the Jets
would have to move heaven and Earth financially to make
this happen. I have faith in Joe Douglas to do that.

(19:28):
But come on, don't you want to see Rogers and
Adams back at it? That duo was so fun in
Green Bay for so long. And come on, Davanta Adams
everything about him, look at it. Look at his route runs.
He's just blistering off the off the line of scrimmage. O.
That wasn't sneed he cooked on FS one. O was
some other cornerback. I'd like to see a Snead highlight,
But I think Devanta Adams is shipped. I think that's

(19:49):
the biggest name at the trade deadline on the move
because the Raiders they're not gonna be good. Let's go
to Ryan Music with the news.

Speaker 2 (19:57):
No, no, turn on the news. This is the herd
Line News j Mac.

Speaker 10 (20:04):
Let's start with some NFL preseason action from last night.
Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson had some ups and downs. After
an opening touchdown drive, he struggled to move the ball,
mustering only one first down and throwing a pick six.
He joked about his performance after the game.

Speaker 11 (20:23):
Got two touchdowns. Now I'm joking. The interception man, that
was That was a tough that was That was a
tough one. You know, communication right there, Grandson saw something
and I saw something else. You know, we just got
to be on the same page right there. The fumble man,
they preached two hands on the ball in the pocket,
you know, almost every day in the QB room, and

(20:44):
I know they're gonna tell me that, you know, when
we get back into me is in the next couple
of days. But I feel like it was a decent game,
just me, you know, being back out there, just frillling
that out.

Speaker 10 (20:54):
What are your expectations for this second year quarterback on
decent game.

Speaker 3 (20:58):
First of all, that was Ryan's angles, and I think
I'm trying to read Ryan. It looks like that was
a lot of second and third string dudes.

Speaker 2 (21:05):
It definitely was. Yeah, almost no starters played.

Speaker 3 (21:09):
And Anthony Richardson struggled to read the defense struggle to
escape pressure. I don't know, it's too Is it too
early for a quarterback controversy Joe Flacco versus Anthony I
don't know. I'm just kidding around. That's not good though,
for Richardson, and we like Stichen. I like Stichen. Oh sure,
I don't know, man, that was not optimistic. You just

(21:32):
hope it's the preseason and we're not going to read
too much into it. To same way, we're not going
to read too much into the Bears being undefeated in
the preseason and looking amazing. Listen, Richardson, he didn't not
look crisp. But the worst part is Ryan, we knew
his weakness was this short stuff. Right the short line
of scrimmage, The defenses right before the snap are moving around,

(21:53):
and it's like, oh boy, I'm gonna reserve judgment on
Anthony Richardson because I'm rooting for him. But yeah, I
don't feel great about the Colts this season.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Right, Yeah.

Speaker 10 (22:03):
I mean, look, if you were to take two positives, right,
he still shows that great raw athleticism that he had
in Florida, which is what got him drafted. And as
you said, Shane stikeen great offensive head coach, helped develop
like Jalen Hurts.

Speaker 2 (22:18):
So those are the positives.

Speaker 10 (22:20):
The negatives would be that the accuracy thing continues to
be a huge problem and if he can't get that right. Look,
Cam Newton won an MVP, but just could never consistently
put together back to back productive seasons. I mean, optimistically,
maybe he becomes more of like a Lamar or Josh

(22:41):
Allen struggled with accuracy early and then sort of got
it to become more improved under a great offensive head coach.
All right, let's turn our attention to the defending champion Chiefs.
They locked down their Pro Bowl center Creed Humphrey to
a new extension four years, seventy two million, with fifty
million of that guaranteed. Now, Humphrey is only twenty five

(23:04):
years old, and this deal now makes him the highest.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Paid center in league history. You like this move for
the Chiefs?

Speaker 3 (23:10):
Uh? You know, it's what's not to love. According to
Pro Football Focus, he graded out as the fourth best
center in the league last year. I know he's not
dating Taylor Swift. I think he's dating Sabrina Carpenter. No,
I'm just kidding. I don't. I know my kids like
Sabrina carp My daughter does. But Creed Humphrey doing all
the right things in Kansas City, And listen, man, they
fixed the interior line. I think it's the tackles that

(23:32):
are the issue. Right I'm looking right now, and it
looks like the second round pick from BYU's gonna start
at left tackle. The interior of the line for Casey
is set. And you like the idea of Creed Humphrey
and Patrick Mahomes working together in lockstep.

Speaker 8 (23:47):
I'm not.

Speaker 3 (23:48):
I'm just I refuse to be bullish on the Chiefs.
This is a great move. I just I cannot get there.
I'm sure they're gonna win ten eleven games. Again, it's
read it's Mahomes, But yeah, good move locking up Creed umper.

Speaker 10 (23:58):
It sort of feels like there's starting to follow that
Patriots model over the years, which is we're just going
to shore up the offensive line every year. And we're
going to build up a defense and then Patrick Mahomes
is going to make things happen for us on offense.
And it look it worked for the Patriots obviously for
two decades now, to your point, as much as they
were contenders year after year, they did go about a

(24:20):
decade without actually winning the Super Bowl, right, So at
some point I imagine it may end up catching up
to the Chiefs. But for now they have a great
model in place, keeping Patrick Mahomes up right, and we'll
see if they can get that three peet that you
seem so dead set against them getting no shot, no shot.

Speaker 4 (24:40):
Wow.

Speaker 10 (24:41):
I think most people say there's at least a small
chant no that.

Speaker 2 (24:44):
Okay, we'll wrap up with this.

Speaker 10 (24:46):
Jordan Love only needed a few preseason games, sorry, a
few preseason snaps to show that he's still in the
same quarterback that was tearing it up at the end
of last season. Now, expectations are very high for the
Packers after Love and their young core life them to
a wild card ups that went over the Cowboys. Now,
despite not seeing much action in the preseason, Love still

(25:06):
believes that the offense will be ready to go Week one, having.

Speaker 12 (25:10):
The two Joly practice has helped a lot, just to
be able to see different defenses and then like go,
I say, going against our defense all camp, I mean
we got a really good defense, so it helped a lot.
But no, I definitely think I like where we're at offensively,
and I think we're ready to go get the season started.

Speaker 4 (25:25):
All right.

Speaker 10 (25:25):
Their Week one matchup is in South Paulo and it's
ticking on the Eagles.

Speaker 2 (25:30):
What do you like here with the Packers Eagles.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
That's a great game and it's on Friday, right, that's right,
So we're is that just two weeks from today?

Speaker 2 (25:38):
I believe that's the end.

Speaker 3 (25:39):
Yeah, wow, fourteen days to the NFL season. I got
a fantasy draft this weekend. I'm not taking Jordan Love.
I think there's a little aggression people are underplaying. I
believe the loss of Aaron Jones. I just it's a
big with any stays in the division. I'm just looking
around now at their running back room and now listen,
it's not terrible, but I not a fan of Josh Jacobs. Dude,

(26:01):
he's coming off an awful season, like terrible two years ago. Excellent. Yeah,
but if it's not Jacob's it's like Dylan and they're
both kind of thumpers. You know, they don't really have
that pass catching guy.

Speaker 7 (26:11):
Now.

Speaker 3 (26:11):
I know everybody's geeked about their wide receivers. They got
like four guys under the age of twenty six who
are awesome or potentially awesome. We'll see. I still think
they're chasing the Lions. Who do you have winning that division?

Speaker 2 (26:22):
I have the Lions.

Speaker 10 (26:23):
Yeah, But I still think the Packers and Jordan Love
are in a great position to have success. I mean,
sure he could have obviously it's not the same because
he sat but his sophomore slump as a second year
as a starter, but I think I think Battleflour is
a great offensive head coach. They got plenty of young
pieces to build around and continue to grow together. I

(26:45):
think they're very much headed in the right directual sophomore
slump is good. So who's a more likely sophomore slump?

Speaker 2 (26:50):
CJ.

Speaker 3 (26:50):
Stroud or Jordan Love in second year as a starter man.

Speaker 10 (26:57):
Time, I guess I would say Jordan Love. Yeah, you
would expect CJ. Stroud would potentially be in a better
spot considering now he gets Stefan Diggs, which is going
to be a major upgrade over the other receivers he
had played with, Not that they were bad by any means,
but Stephan Dicks incredibly productive and very much helped Josh
Allen in his development. So if you're forcing me to choose,

(27:18):
that would be the direction I would go. But I
think they'll both be successful. I also think the interesting
thing on the other side of this is the Eagles
after a very rocky finish to the end of last season,
they kind of need to get off to a good
start here to sort of silence that those allowed Eagles
fans and some of the chatter we've seen about head
coach Nick Sirianni in the offseason.

Speaker 3 (27:39):
Yeah, that's a good point, because they've started ten to
one each of the last two years, I'm pretty sure,
and for whatever reason, they haven't been able to close strong,
or they didn't last year two years ago. I think
they lost a couple of late hurts, got injured. But yeah,
that's probably the second best opening week matchup. Obviously, Niners
Jets is number one too. It ain't Bengals Patriots, that's

(28:01):
for sure. Oh come on, by the way, Jamaar is
your boy, Jamar Chase gonna play in the opener.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Certainly hope.

Speaker 3 (28:06):
So okay, we'll see We'll see Ryan with the news.

Speaker 2 (28:11):
Well, that's the news, and thanks for stopping by. What's
the Herd Line news?

Speaker 3 (28:15):

Speaker 10 (29:00):
Super Bowl champion Tom Brady makes his long awaited NFL
on Fox debut. He joins Kevin Burkhart, Aaron Andrews, and
Tom Rinaldi for the season opener, Cowboys versus Browns September eighth, only.

Speaker 3 (29:12):
On Fox, Cowboys Browns. I wonder if that makes cow
Hurts blazing five great game. I'll definitely be betting it.
I won't reveal that pick yet. I'm sure this gentleman
will betting it. Let's welcome in Chris FeliCa. You guys
know him well close to the Bare Beets podcast with
Jeff Schwartz, Fox Big Noon Kickoff. Felika will be in Morgantown.

(29:36):
I think it's obligatory you have to burn a sofa
when you're in Morgantown. Is that accurate or yeah?

Speaker 7 (29:41):
They're trying to get away from that image.

Speaker 14 (29:43):
But there will be lots of adult beverages consumed, and
that's a rid of be a really nasty, like bitter
bitter crowd fan.

Speaker 7 (29:52):
Fest between Penn State and West Virginia.

Speaker 14 (29:54):
They don't usually play very often, but they got They
got a very heated pass going back with Feeling and
Paterno and some bribery games. But really curious because I mean,
West Virginia is a team that could go either way.
This year, Penn State has playoff hope, so really good
way to start to kick off the season next week
in MORGANTWN.

Speaker 3 (30:12):
Yeah, we'll get to the NFL at a moment, but
let's just start with college. Any action, by the way
from you on the FSU game in Dublin tomorrow, I
saw the line was like thirteen and a half down
to ten. I'm waiting for a nine and a half.
I haven't seen one of you.

Speaker 14 (30:25):
Yeah, I don't know if you're gonna get below ten,
because I think if you do, you're gonna get immediate
buyback on Florida State, I don't have anything in this game.
I tried to convince myself to bet the over because
I'm not sure how good Georgia Tech's defense is. But
at the same time, I honestly don't know what to
expect from Florida State this year. The sample from dju

(30:46):
Angloile the last couple of years has not been GREATY
got benchkin Oregon State last year? Is he really a
P four quarterback? The Nooles lost so much. My instinct
is that this is a higher scoring game. I certainly
want no part or laying points here because I just
don't know about Florida States offense.

Speaker 3 (31:04):
This is where I love. We're here. Football's here officially
starting this Saturday. I think every weekend for the next
like I don't know, four months, will have football on
the weekend, which is great. Let's just bust through a
couple of quick college topics, Chris, A lot of people
seem to have Beck or Gabriel for the Heisman. Can
you give me, like maybe a sleeper somebody who's not Quinn,

(31:26):
yours Beck, one of these favorites for the Heisman? You
got anybody?

Speaker 14 (31:31):
Okay, I'll give you two. And then again, I don't
think either of these tickets are going to catch. But
if you don't, looking to go way down the board
because I agree with you, j Maak, I think you
can kind of shoot holes in the arguments and the
reason for all these quarterbacks at the top of the
board being so high, like yours, Beck, Gabriel, just just
keep going down the board, Will Howard, like all these guys,

(31:54):
I think you look again. People are gonna have their
stances and opinions on Colorado, but Travis Hunter is one
of the most dynamic players in the country.

Speaker 7 (32:03):
Depending on how.

Speaker 14 (32:04):
Many receiving yards he gets, how many wins Colorado. If
Colorado goes eight and four, and say he's got five
or six interceptions and he's got six or eight whatever
touchdown catches. If Colorado makes goes eight and four, he's
gonna be in the conversation. You can get him at
a pretty nice price now around sixty to one. I

(32:25):
think he's out there. And then if you want to
look even further down the board, freshman Jeremiah Smith from
Ohio State. By all accounts, he is the absolute real deal.
So much talk about Will Howard, so much talk about
the running backs, Judkinson Henderson, talk about Abuka the other
wide receiver, But but Jeremiah Smith is going to be
their best wide receiver this year. He is a physical

(32:47):
freak of nature, and by all accounts, he's doing everything
off the field as well. He could have a very
special year. And if you're looking to take a real
long shot on a price, you can get him at
better than one hundred to one.

Speaker 7 (32:58):
Else do I expect ter A Smith to win it?
Probably not.

Speaker 14 (33:01):
But this is the reason you take some shots earlier
in the year, because if they do get up to
some great starts, the numbers are gonna fall dramatically really yeah.

Speaker 3 (33:09):
And regarding the twelve team playoffs, I mean, I know
some college football fans are nervous, Oh, teams aren't gonna try,
Like that's obviously bunk. Everybody's gonna try. You want to
host games. But I am curious. I do think we'll
probably see a little different structure to the regular season
and a cadence guys getting pulled early. I don't think
we'll see the stat padding as we have in years past.

(33:32):
I am curious where you on the whole twelve team
playoff and how it's gonna shake out.

Speaker 7 (33:36):
Well, I was always I liked four. I thought it
should be hard to get in.

Speaker 14 (33:40):
But I think the most interesting thing that I'm going
to be looking at later in the year and again,
these teams are going to try, and no one's going
to be looking to tank games or whatever. But if
you look at the way the playoff is currently structured,
that number five spot is going to be called, you
can argue that being five might be better than being one,

(34:01):
because look, if you're number five, you're going to get
a first round home playoff game against likely the group
of five champions. Yep, the weakest team in the field.
Then you're going to get a neutral site game in
the second round against the four seed, who in theory
is going to be the Big twelve champion, who in
theory is going to be the weakest of the automatic qualifiers.

Speaker 7 (34:24):
So you could be either say Ohio State or Oregon.

Speaker 14 (34:28):
Whoever potentially maybe loses the Big Ten championship game or
the loser of the SEC championship game, whoever that is,
could be the five seed and find themselves in a
really really interesting spot. So I think that's what I'm
really curious looking forward to come playoff time, to see
how this shakes out and how these pass are potentially
getting to the National Championship work.

Speaker 3 (34:49):
Yeah, I love that. I love that. All right, let's
go to the NFL, and I'm more in green. You're
a Jets fan, I'm a Jets fan. I don't want
to be saying, hey, this is the year, Chris. This
is the lookase texts about the Jets. It does feel
like outside of the Hassan Reddick nonsense, which is really embarrassing,
everything else looks good for the Jets. The offensive line

(35:11):
is healthy. I mean this preseason to not playing anybody
Aaron Rodgers seems to be fine. He's put politics on
the back burner. It appears like other than Mike Williams
is close to returning. Like, talk me out of the Jets.
What's the reason not to like them, Chris?

Speaker 14 (35:27):
The reason not to like the Jets is because the
Jets and the Jets, and I know that going back
however many years we've been rooting for them. But I mean,
I remember sending a text of my Jet fan friends
last year, like saying, I am getting far too excited
about this season in mid August and then regurgitating that
text on a spring grab four plays into the season.

Speaker 7 (35:48):
But you're right.

Speaker 14 (35:49):
You look at the division. The Bills are clearly going
to be down. The Dolphins, I'm on the fence with
them this year. The Patriots are going to be one
of the worst teams in the league. And the way
the schedule shakes down for the Jets, like if they
happen to beat San Francisco early in the year in
Game one, and look look at the Niners. Who knows
what's gonna happen with IU. Trent Williams hasn't signed it

(36:10):
to camp yet. We don't know about Christian McCaffrey's injury status.
People still have their doubts about Brock Purdy, whether you
want to believe it or not. How's their defense gonna
be this year with a new coordinator in town. But
if they can get past that game in San Francisco,
there's an opportunity for them to string together a really
long succession of wins. So again, it's rose colored Jets

(36:32):
fans glasses. But if you're looking at maybe the last
team to lose a game in the NFL, or maybe
even best record in the NFL, the Jets have some
pretty nice appeal at those prices. Again, by every aware
it's the Jets, but we're just looking at them on
paper and looking at the team Dave assemble.

Speaker 7 (36:49):
I think they're gonna be pretty good this year.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
Yeah, I'll be in Vegas next week signing up for
the CIRCU contest and the two bets on last undefeated
team I think have to beat Detroit and the Jets.
Detroit unbelievably indoorsy schedule to start the season, and I'm
agreeing with the Jets. Now you mentioned the Jags during
the commercial break, I started to look, you've got some
stuff on the Jaguars. I'll just say they're underdogs in

(37:13):
three of their first four games Dolphins, Bills, Texans. That
is not an easy start to the season. Why are
you optimistic on Jacksonville.

Speaker 14 (37:22):
I'm optimistic on Jacksonville because I think maybe the pendulum
has swung a little bit too much to the other end.
I mean, this was a team that was on the
rise the last couple of years and they were the
pick to win the division and then they collapsed down
the stretch last year. But remember they had Trevor Lawrence,
hurt wide receivers who dropped a lot of balls. I
think if you look at the schedule this year as well,

(37:44):
outside after Week ten, they play one game either outside
the state of Florida or outside of a dome, and
that's a game at Tennessee. Like everybody loves Houston this year,
people think the Colts could be a sleeper team. I
love the pick of Brian Thomas wide receiver. You made
some adjustments there, you got Christian Kirk. I think Trevor

(38:06):
Lawrence to lead the league in passing yards twenty five
to one might be worth a bet. Because of that schedule.
Travcy Tian is going to catch the ball out of
the backfield. I think people are maybe sleeping a little
bit on Jacksonville a lot of times. And take it
back to the Jets a little bit. People, Maybe youre
hesitant on getting on the Jets because of what happened
last year. I think people might be a little hesitant

(38:27):
of getting on Jacksonville because of what happened last year,
and a lot of times like the following year, the
year after you're supposed to be really good or make
a run is actually the year that you do. But
look at that Jacksonville late season schedule and I think
you can make a really good case for the Jags
to be a contender in that division, for Trevor Lawrence
maybe to ultimately realize the potential that a lot of

(38:48):
people thought he had when he was a number one
pick in the track.

Speaker 3 (38:50):
That's a great point. I'm looking at it now. So
Week fourteen at Will Levis then versus the Jets at
Gardner Minshew Levis again, assuming he's still the guy, and
then any Richardson who looked really bad last night. So
and what potential way to bet that is? If they
start one in three, you could still bet them to
win the division at a depressed price. Yes, which makes

(39:10):
a ton of sense. You seem to be down on
the Steelers and Giants like I am, Yeah.

Speaker 7 (39:16):
I am. And it's a pretty common theme.

Speaker 14 (39:18):
And I think if you've looked at the Steelers offensively
so far, whether it's been Russell Wilson or Justin Fields
under center, they have looked terrible. It was funny on
baar BET's podcast a week ago I had given out
of Steelers point total for the season under three forty
seven and a half.

Speaker 7 (39:34):
But I looked today to see what it was.

Speaker 14 (39:36):
It's three thirty one and a half a week since
we gave it out on the pod last week. But
I still think you can look at the Steelers under
eight and a half wins this year offensively, they got problems.
You know, I don't want to get too crazy in
case they do make a trade for Iyu, but really,
what does that mean if they don't have a quarterback
who could get them the ball? The offensive line looks

(39:57):
like they have problems with the war and injury. We'll
see how long he's out. That could be a problem.
And they're in the toughest division in football. So Steelers
under and then Giants are another team that I just
can't can't see doing much this year. The preseason off
season hard Knocks was really revealing and telling to me
because I think people like to have a rose colored glasses.

(40:18):
They're optimistic seeing behind the scenes all week could be
really good this year. All I took away from that
is they are completely hamstrung by the Daniel Jones contract
their offensive line. I'm still not sure how good it's
going to be. Sure neighbors could be great, but again,
can Jones get him the ball if they don't win
Week one at home against Minnesota. In a PICK'M game,

(40:40):
I talked about how the Jets could string together a
bunch of wins early in the year. The Giants may
not win for a long time. So I played like
Giants under six and a half, Giants under five and
a half. If plus money Giants to be the last
winless team in the NFL. I know the Patriots will
probably give them a run for that. But if you're
looking for a little alternative bet there and not just

(41:02):
falling into the Patriots like I think, it's a good bet.

Speaker 7 (41:04):
I think the Giants are headed for a very long season.

Speaker 3 (41:07):
All right. Chris Filica. You can catch him on Big
Noon Kickoff eight days from now in Morgantown, West Virginia,
and obviously the Bear Bets Podcast. Chris, great stuff. As always,
Thanks a lot and have a great weekend.

Speaker 7 (41:20):
Thanks Jan Mecklet'll do it again soon, all.

Speaker 3 (41:22):
Right, Chris Filicka, great stuff. Oh gosh, the gambling talk
just has me excited. I didn't know you could bet
actual point totals for the season under Steelers. Oh my gosh,
great stuff. Coming up next, the Jets are making the playoffs.
The Dolphins aren't.
