You're listening to Fox Sports Radio. All right, here we go,
it's a Tuesday hour two.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
Thanks to Tom Brady for stopping by Nick right in
five minutes live in Los Angeles. It's The Herd. Wherever
you may be, and however and wherever you may be
listening or watching, Thanks for making us part of your day.
Summers Over, Bakover the Grind is officially started for seven months.
Shay McK and I ready to go Cowboys Browns. That

(00:50):
Brady gets to the first game is I think to
his point is I think it's got twenty three, twenty four,
twenty three twenty written all over it to be high storing.
I don't know what Dallas is offensively. I think they
have the weakest running back room in the league. They're
rebuilding their own line lost Tyron Smith, and they have
one star receiver in a pretty good tight end. But

(01:11):
I could see them going to Cleveland and really struggling
to move the ball.

Speaker 3 (01:15):
You know, we nerd out during football.

Speaker 4 (01:17):
I just saw at the Browns practice they're starting left
tackle not practicing.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Willis coming off a big injury.

Speaker 4 (01:22):
If he's not there, Michael Parsons against a backup left tackle,
I not great for Dshaun Watson.

Speaker 1 (01:27):
All right, this is my final heard Hierarchy before the
season starts.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
There'll be a lot of changes. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
None of the veterans play in preseason. This is a
combination of some things I've seen over the last month,
mostly what I believe to be true, from free agent
drafting acquisitions to the team I saw at the end
of last year.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
And here we go heard Hierarchy time. Now go the
top ten NFL teams according to College number ten.

Speaker 1 (01:58):
I'm gonna go with the Atlanta Falcons. Kirk Cousins is,
Dak Prescott. You'll be relevant, good and you can win
your division. Listen their offensive weapons. I think we're under
us last year. Drake London, Kyle Pitts, Bajean Robinson. They
have a top five or six offensive line according to PFF.
I think Raheem Morris is the rare defensive coach who

(02:19):
understands offense. The bottom line is Kirk Cousins picked a
great division like Tom Brady did.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
He went to Tampa.

Speaker 1 (02:27):
It was a bad division, and he had a good
offensive line. That's what Kirk Cousins has joined. I think
they can win twelve games. I don't think they'd win
twelve games in the NFC North, but in the NFC South,
I think they can run away with it. Best online,
best quarterback arguably in the division. Atlanta at ten, number nine.
I think Philadelphias loaded and they could be a top

(02:48):
five team.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
But I don't know what to make of them now.

Speaker 1 (02:51):
They've got all new coordinators, but I thought Saquon Barkley
is literally Jalen Hurt's best friend. What a gift they lose.
They're all pro, but their tackles are excellent. They spent
money on defense and free agency. They have stars all
over the team. Hurts can move, Barkley always better than average,
a tight end AJ Brown. Where they weak, I just

(03:15):
don't know if I like the coach. Their division is
one of the weaker ones. I don't think they have
to be a great team to win ten games. Philadelphia
at nine.

Speaker 2 (03:24):
Number eight the Texans.

Speaker 1 (03:26):
You know, I was thinking sophomore slump, but there's a
couple of numbers that are amazing. Did you know they
had the fewest turnovers in the NFL last year with
a rookie quarterback. At fourteen, they are hyper efficient.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
CJ.

Speaker 1 (03:40):
Stroud makes no mistakes, Demiko Ryans a rock star as
a coach. Then they add Stefan Diggs, Daniil Hunter, rush end,
Joe Mixon. I like their roster last year. They added
three high end starters. Again, I don't know if the
division's any good. Like Atlanta, I think they could run
away with this thing. At eight, number seven Buffalo. They've

(04:03):
won four straight division titles. Good coach, good GM star quarterback,
and you know their offensive line. We know it's good
at left tackle. Then it's been musical chairs. But they
did allow the few of sacks in the league last year,
and the defense was number one under McDermott. They just
do things well. They protect Josh Josh is great, They
defend the pass, they get a good pass rush, and

(04:24):
they draft well. I don't think they'll miss to I
think Stefan Diggs is a better get for Houston than
he is a loss for Buffalo. I think they'll be fine.
I think they're good. The question is are they ever great?
Because Kansas City's made a habit of being not just
good but great. Buffalo at seven, number six, I think
the Niners pull back a little. I didn't like their

(04:45):
off season, and I think it's time to have a
fair evaluation of rock Perty to figure out can we
give this guy the bag? They're getting old debo Trent,
Christian McCaffrey, Kittle.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
I think it's a.

Speaker 1 (04:57):
Big year, a lot of hype, a lot of wins,
and no trophies. They've been twenty two and five. When
Christian McCaffrey plays, if he plays, they'll be very good.
But their offensive line was not good last year twenty first,
and Trent Williams cannot be in game shape. And then
they face the Jets in the opener, so that's a
rough start. The Jets defense and your offense you got got,

(05:20):
you have that terrible shooting, you have Brandon Aiyuk gaining
the camp Trent Williams. I like the Niners a lot.
I think their divisions better. I only have him at
six number five. I think Green Bay is fascinating. I
think they may be too young to win a Super Bowl,
but not necessarily.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Where are they not good? Offensively?

Speaker 1 (05:39):
Good gods weapons everywhere, Romeo Dobbs, Jayden Reid, Christian Watson,
Jordan Love, Josh Jacobs, excellent offensive coach. Their whole lines
are always good. Now defensively, can they generate a consistent
pass rush? I don't know. Super Bowl teams that have
won don't always have great pass rushes. They have the
youngest roster in the league. The average ages twenty. There

(06:00):
are college teams that are averaging twenty three with their
two deeps, or at least they're starting rosters. This is
a really, really young team, but I think they're really
special and I got em at.

Speaker 2 (06:13):
Five number four.

Speaker 1 (06:15):
Listen, Baltimore is gonna be good. Here's all you need
to know. Everybody goes, oh, they only return two starters
on the offensive line. Yeah, Ronnie Stanley and Tyler Linderbaum
pro Bowl level guy. If you get your left tackle
in your center right, you'll figure out the rest.

Speaker 2 (06:31):
Baltimore's O line is. Oh, was fine.

Speaker 1 (06:33):
They got an all time left tackle in a great
center and Lamar Jackson, who, by the way, is twenty
and one all time against NFC opponents, So just put
in about six w's when they face the NFC. And again,
I think he's got the best receiving Corries had Mark
Andrews back healthy. I just trust the organization, you know
what I mean? Like they're they're just well run and

(06:54):
it matters. GM coach quarterback Harbaugh. They going eleven games again,
like Buffalo, They'll be good.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
Will they be great? Let's wait and see number three.

Speaker 1 (07:04):
Most underrated team in the league last year. I think
the Rams are special.

Speaker 2 (07:08):
It is.

Speaker 1 (07:08):
I think they are basically Green Bay with a superstar
coach and a superstar quarterback. I loved them last year.
I think they nailed the draft. I think they're very
well run. And here's the other thing about him. Five
of their first picks were defense, and they've been nailing
the draft for years. Cooper Cup was banged up last year.
He's finally healthy. Say what you will about the Rams.

(07:31):
You rolled your eyes when Uncle Colin told you they
were the safest over bet in the league, and you're
rolling your eyes now. And I tell you they're going
to win this division and may win it comfortably.

Speaker 2 (07:45):
The Rams at three, number two Detroit. I don't know
how to criticize them.

Speaker 1 (07:50):
They draft, they develop, I mean, they play fourteen of
their first fifteen games indoors, and there's I mean, Chicago's
got a good defense, but Minnesota, Green Bay average defenses.
They're gonna score a lot of points. They're gonna control
football games they're gonna do. I mean, they beat Kansas
City week one last year and they never they were

(08:11):
good the whole year. I mean, they're just a really sound,
well run football team, which is unbelievable because five years
ago they were the opposite of that. But I mean,
Jamier Gibbs, star back, star tight ends, star receivers, and
they still have What worries me, is it to losing
historic culture? Do they know how to win a big game?
And there's something to that. There is something about New

(08:34):
England for years winning games when they were outplayed or
out talented because they knew how to win close games.
Buffalo Bills have that issue, like they don't know how
to win big games.

Speaker 2 (08:43):
Prove it. I don't know.

Speaker 1 (08:44):
If Detroit's there, they could become the Buffalo of the NFC.
But man, do I like their talent. Number one Kansas
City noisy offseason blah blah blah. They're three best players,
Chris Jones, Travis Kelcey and Mahomes. Who cares if they're noisy.
The defense was excellent last year. It's now they lost
a corner. But it's just older, smarter players. I think

(09:06):
there's so much functionality about this team. I think the
hardest thing they face is apathy. It is very hard
to win three straight. I think their defense is elite.
Travis Kelsey is aging, but let's be honest, he was
great when it mattered in the postseason.

Speaker 2 (09:21):
I think one of their tougher.

Speaker 1 (09:22):
Challenges is I think Carbond the Chargers have always played
him pretty tight.

Speaker 2 (09:26):
I think Denver's better than people think.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
But uh, I have Cincinnati at eleven, and that's I
feel pretty good about this. Jmax rolling his eyes. You guys,
go ahead and laugh on the Rams. I was right
last year. I'm gonna be right this year.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
Do you care about Super Bowl odds or not? Really?

Speaker 2 (09:42):
Not really?

Speaker 3 (09:43):
Rams are thirteenth in Super Bowl odds. He had third
in your power rating.

Speaker 2 (09:46):
Now they're over under. Last year was five wins.

Speaker 3 (09:48):
Why do you harping on last year?

Speaker 4 (09:50):
We're in this year doyn't live in the past, buddy,
We're in the present.

Speaker 2 (09:54):
I bought three jet skis last year with my Rams winnings.

Speaker 3 (09:56):
They're gonna get repossessed here.

Speaker 1 (09:58):
Certainly that's funny, rarely funny, but you gotta go on there,
all right, Nick, Right, first things first, joining us live?

Speaker 2 (10:08):
All right? You know, I don't know.

Speaker 1 (10:11):
What the hell to do with Cincinnati, but I think
one of my themes is.

Speaker 5 (10:15):
We'll have them in there. Well, that's what you do
with them. You have them in the top ten, that's
what you should do with them.

Speaker 6 (10:19):
But go ahead. Sorry.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
One of my themes was Buffalo, Baltimore, Detroit. You can
be great, but you don't know how to win big games.
New England and Kansas City the last twenty years know
how to win big games. I think the Rams have
proven under with Stafford and McVay they know how to
win big games.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
I don't know if San Francisco quite does.

Speaker 1 (10:41):
Is there anything out there outside of Cincinnati that you
don't like?

Speaker 5 (10:47):
So listen, well, I didn't you know you finally have
the Chiefs in their rightful spot. I didn't love your
your tone and your apathy about it. You're worried about
their apathy. You know, the herd hierarchy's a big crescendo
up to number one. You got there almost begrudgingly. You're like,
oh man, then there's Kansas City. It's hard to win

(11:08):
three straight Super Bowls. Like, I don't know I mean that,
but you got it right, Cincinnati, I would have in there.

Speaker 6 (11:14):
I have one minor gripe and one major gripe.

Speaker 5 (11:18):
Okay, the minor gripe is I'm a little worried about
so much Packers hype. This is a team that was
six and eight and then beat Bryce Young, Jaren Hall
justin fields to get into the playoffs, and now they
are a very trendy Super Bowl pick. So I just

(11:39):
feel like, you know, progression in the NFL is not
always linear. The Packers and Texans had very similar profiles.
One year starting quarterbacks kind of came out of nowhere.
Last year won a playoff game. NFL history tells me
one of those two teams at least will stumble a bit.
I would think it'd be more likely the Packers and
the Texans. But my biggest gripe here, Colin, is not

(12:03):
only with you, but with NFL media at large, which
is someone explained to me why the Eagles fixed what
was the worst two month collapse for an allegedly very
good team in NFL history. They lost six out of seven,
They lost to miserable teams. They appeared to quit minutes

(12:28):
into a playoff game against the Tampa Bay Bucks and
Baker Mayfield. And then this offseason, the big three thousand
word expose ended with the kicker of when it comes
to the coach quarterback relationship, and I quote, well, I
don't think they hate each other.

Speaker 6 (12:45):
Oh well, in that case, I'm sure everything's fine.

Speaker 5 (12:48):
They're like, oh, their coordinators killed them last year.

Speaker 6 (12:52):
Well, I don't know.

Speaker 5 (12:53):
The two guys they hired, Kellen Moore and Vic Fangio,
both got run out of town from their last on
one year spos. Kellen Moore saw Justin Herbert and all
of a sudden, Herbert.

Speaker 6 (13:04):
Has his worst year. Yes, he was banged up.

Speaker 5 (13:07):
The Dolphins half of their offseason optimism is about how
much the players disliked Vic Fangio. Vic Fangou, who hasn't
had a great defensive tenure post the Denver head coaching time.
When his first year there they were quite good. So
that's not great. The single biggest offseason loss anyone suffered

(13:27):
across the league was the retirement of Jason Kelsey, who
called out the protections, who was the key to the
tush push, the key to their running game, and the
greatest center arguably of all time. Why are the Eagles
all of a sudden good again, No one's explained it
to me, And so I would certainly have Cincinnati in

(13:47):
the top ten. And of those ten teams, the one
I would most eagerly eject from there is Philadelphia, with
maybe Green Bay, but probably just Philly.

Speaker 1 (13:57):
You know, I was saying this earlier, is that not
all dynasties are captivating Bama with Nick Saban wasn't it
was coach led The big fundamental in San Antonio was
a snooze. And New England frankly efficiency. I mean, if
takeout Brady, they had almost no star power. I mean,
like Tom was the star. It was overachievers. But I said,

(14:20):
I was at an area of the country a little
bit on vacation, and it was Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce,
Patrick Mahome, Ryan Gosling, and I said, the Chiefs are
literally the anti Patriots. They're leaning into access trends. Media fun.
And I said, and it's also great because it's middle
of the country, and that's always been a real appeal

(14:40):
to the NFL. Green Bay and Kansas City, Buffalo, Baltimore great,
The New York team stink.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
But it is interesting that this.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Kansas City team leans into movies and stardom and it
doesn't affect them.

Speaker 2 (14:55):
And why is that?

Speaker 5 (14:56):
Well, well, I think that Listen that I think Andy
Reid gets the credit for it, because Andy, Andy is
proving you can run the hardest training camp in the NFL,
play your starters more than any other good team in
the NFL, and still have your players adore you, love you,

(15:17):
respect you, and have fun with you. And so I
do think that there are things teams just like for
I said for years when the Patriots were running everything,
and Belichick every year when he saw out his fastball
when it came to the draft, would trade down in
the draft, like you know what more teams should do,
trade down? The smartest team's doing it. The Chiefs will

(15:40):
go into this season with one player not fully participating
in practice of their fifty three man roster, Hollywood Brown,
who took a bad hit in the first preseason game
and he'll be back by week three at the latest.
They have the hardest training camp, they end up the
most prepared, typically in week one last year not with standing,

(16:01):
and Andy can get them to practice as hard as
they do and hit as much as they do. Because
he then also says, Hey, you know the ring around
the Rosie play that we screwed around with, Let's run
that in a divisional game against the Raiders. Patrick feels
comfortable going impromptu.

Speaker 6 (16:20):
Behind the back.

Speaker 5 (16:21):
And I truly believe they are going to run the
Taylor Swift play at some point this year, probably against
the Raiders, because they did that silly Kermit the Frog nonsense,
mocking the greatest quarterback in the league, Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 6 (16:36):
And so I just think it.

Speaker 5 (16:38):
Is the perfect The amount of players coach while being
a hard ass is Andy Reid. So I think he
gets the full credit for it. And that is you
know that, along with having the most talented player in
the history of league and Patrick Mahomes is why they're
gonna win their third straight Super Bowl.

Speaker 1 (16:55):
All to close with this, and I said this near
the top of the show today, I said, the WNBA
has got a problem that's not really a problem. They've
made it a problem and now they can't avoid it.
Is that Caitlin Clark is way better, way sooner than
anybody wants to admit.

Speaker 7 (17:11):
It.

Speaker 1 (17:11):
Took Bryce Harper a couple years. Outside of Asia Wilson.
On any night, you're like, is she the best player?
I mean now, playmaking, shooting pace, and the league to
which credit has finally slowly gotten their arms around it.
They're All Star Games already in Indiana. They announced it.
They finally figured out, Wow, this is Taylor Swift and sneakers.

(17:35):
I'm not sure the players have She's the most targeted
player for hard fouls. Are they doing enough? What do
you make of kind of this? A little bit of
tribalism a little.

Speaker 5 (17:47):
Bit so I don't mind Listen, I don't mind the
hard fouls. That's part of basketball. And she's a trash talker. Yeah,
she brings some of that on too herself. She's young,
she's brash, she is she trash, she's awesome, she's going.

Speaker 6 (18:02):
So I don't that part.

Speaker 5 (18:03):
I think almost will be policed in and of itself.
I don't think she's gonna get injured, and I don't
think we need to, you know, the league needs put
out a mandate about anything like that. So the player's
stuff doesn't bother me. What does bother me is some
of the people I deeply respect their basketball credentials, their

(18:24):
basketball history, their commitment to basketball and women's basketball, I
think have really not covered themselves in glory with some
of this commentary. And all you know, I'm going to
read you a quote Colin, if I may from again,
this person might know more about the w about women's

(18:46):
basketball than any person who's ever lived. And that's Geno Orima.
Gino Oriema was on with my fou Dan Patrick a
couple months ago when the Fever were struggling, and this
was the quote. This kids on the wrong team. She's
got the wrong skill set to handle the physicality in
the league. And she's a rookie. This rookie class isn't

(19:09):
even one of the best classes in the last ten years.
She's just not built for the physicality of this league.
She's not quick enough to get away from the physicality.

Speaker 6 (19:19):
End quote.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
Gino, just say, you're a Yukon guy, and you thought
this was gonna be Paige and instead it's Caitlin. Like, hey,
folks out there, just say, hey, Angel Reese in a
lot of years would have won, would be the Rookie
of the Year. She's set the all time rebounding record.
Don't say, let's just have it be a tie, call

(19:45):
them co Rookies of the Year.

Speaker 6 (19:46):
No, let's not do that.

Speaker 5 (19:48):
This So there's so many things at play. There's like
a Yukon bias that to me, Twitter's algorithm is really
doing its best to inflame any type of you know,
race dichotomy between Angel and Caitlin. And there's a lot
of to me old time players who are doing.

Speaker 6 (20:07):
A lot like what the NBA old.

Speaker 5 (20:08):
Time players do, which is god dogged it's better in
my era. These guys are soft, they can't do it,
and what it's creating is, in my opinion, just some
asinine commentary. I was on your show two months ago
and said, look out for the fever post Olympics. Caitlin

(20:30):
will be rested. They have no more back to backs,
they have no more three and five nights.

Speaker 6 (20:35):
The WNBA gave them all their hard games early.

Speaker 5 (20:39):
You could, if you were being fair, you could see
this train coming down the tracks. And too many people,
in my opinion, I think because they don't want to
get yelled at by bad actors on the internet are
lying about what's in front of them, which is Angel
Reese is having an anus a rookie season and Katelyn

(21:00):
Clark is having arguably the greatest rookie season in the
history of the league, certainly on the short list, and
all of a sudden, the Fever are dangerous team. There
should be two unanimous awards in women's basketball this year.
Asia Wilson should get every single MVP vote there is.
That's undeniable, and Caitlin Clark should get every single Rookie

(21:21):
of the Year vote. That's also undeniable. And if you're denying,
either I either doubt your basketball acumen or you're honesty
in what you're actually saying.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Nick Wright gets the Chiefs on Thursday, and so depending
on the outcome, it's actually one of the few games.
It's one of the few games I feel semi strongly about.
I like Kansas City because they've kind of Rashie Rice
is gonna play and they brought Juju Smith, Schuster and
Worthy and so I kind of feel good about him.
Plus they lost to Detroit last year in the opener,
so you know they'll take it seriously. And he's let

(21:55):
him play this summer, so it's gonna be. It was
a hard camp, so great, yep, can't wait for it.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
Right.

Speaker 5 (22:00):
And and for Baltimore, I know it's Week one, Colin
must win. Well, it's a must win for Baltimore. Well,
so must win psychologically, you can't lose psychologically.

Speaker 6 (22:10):
It's a must win.

Speaker 5 (22:11):
I'm just telling you in Week one elimination game for
Baltimore top spot.

Speaker 6 (22:14):
It's what the NFL put him in. Sorry, it is
what it.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
Is, all right, Nick? Right? Good see anybody?

Speaker 1 (22:21):
Yeah, there's Week one is I don't know what to
make I mean, I'll say this, the Carolina game, I'd
probably take Carolina. I'd probably take the Jets and the points.
I'd take Kansas City minus the points. But I you know,
the game, I don't know what to make of it
is Rams Lions. I think it's an NFC Championship preview.
I think Rams Lions is that's a game. If you

(22:43):
lose twenty seven to twenty six, it's okay because you're
gonna meet again in January. That's how much I like
the Rams in Detroit. You keep rolling your eyes. How
many times can you be wrong on the Rams.

Speaker 4 (22:55):
Well, first of all, just once I had them in
the Super Bowl against the Bengals, I got this whole. Yeah,
I'm not doing a Blazing five. You can't find five
games you like this weekend.

Speaker 1 (23:04):
First of all, I take this stuff seriously, don't we all?
Nothing well, nothing more than blazing five. America relies on
me to buy them jet skis and camping a quip
based on my picks.

Speaker 4 (23:16):
Bengals are eight and a half against the Patriots. We
don't know about Jamar Chase.

Speaker 3 (23:19):
You're not touching that.

Speaker 1 (23:20):
I would take the Bengals, but I don't like Week
one heavy favorites. It's the biggest line and I don't
like it. I like the Carolina number. That's my I
think the Carolina getting what is it four?

Speaker 3 (23:30):
They were getting four and a half. It's down to four.

Speaker 1 (23:33):
Yeah, I thought four and a half. That was the
best line on the board. Carolina plus four and a half.
And I do think the Jets. I just don't know
how San Francisco can be tight. McCaffrey didn't play. I
think I think that game is low scoring. It's twenty
three to twenty. I would take the Jets on the points.

Speaker 4 (23:50):
To cover divisional matchup Texans Colts. Texans on the road
are favored by.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Two and a half.

Speaker 2 (23:56):
Stay okay, so something's up.

Speaker 3 (23:58):
Take the Colts.

Speaker 2 (24:00):
I can't do that. Why because you.

Speaker 3 (24:02):
Love the Texans you have in the near top ten.

Speaker 2 (24:04):
I think they're good.

Speaker 1 (24:04):
Come on, no, I do so again. That's a great
example Rams Lions. That is a coin flip. And in fact,
I don't even think that's important because I think they
meet in January.

Speaker 4 (24:14):
I see Lions three and a half on. Don't you
just take the hook take the Rams. If you feel
so confident, I don't get you just had him.

Speaker 3 (24:21):
Third in the hard Harald line.

Speaker 1 (24:22):
You know what I feel confident? Texas has beating Michigan
this weekend. Daddy's gonna buy a new hair shoes.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
You think ann Arbor's gonna be rocking this weekend.

Speaker 1 (24:31):
You can rock all you want when you trail twenty
seven to three because you can't get up first downs.

Speaker 4 (24:35):
Just so you know, more, didn't put anything on tape.
He knew this game against Texas was everything. The first
half under was a lock. Last week against Fresno that
was one of the easiest plays on the board. Michigan
showed nothing They're gonna come out and look like a
different team this week.

Speaker 3 (24:48):
Be careful. I like Texas, I don't know about this.
I took the points seven and a half.

Speaker 1 (24:54):
I'm trying to figure out where I can buy Georgia
USC natty tickets online. I've been searching all weekend because
those things are going. I don't know if I've know.
Florida stinks. Florida stinks Florida and Florida State. Shame on
you disband the programs.

Speaker 2 (25:10):
I mean it's bad. One more heard. The Herd streams
twenty four hours a day, seven days a week within
the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd to listen live or on
demand whenever you like.

Speaker 1 (25:21):
Football ratings were maybe shockingly big. I mean USC LSU
got almost nine and a half million people. Notre Dame,
Texas A and M Georgia Clemson. These were gigantic ratings,
much bigger than previous years, and there was plenty of competition.
Scotti Scheffler, who's literally the best golfer on the planet
by a stretch one on the tour again. Caitlin Clark

(25:43):
WNBA has never gotten ratings like this. The Labor Day weekend,
whether it was fantastic. Otani and Aaron Judge are chasing
history and records. At least Otani is so. I mean,
there was plenty on TV. Why are the ratings so big?
And I was telling a friend yesterday. You ever get
invited to a and you ask, you know, your wife
or you or you and a buddy get invited to
a party and you ask, well, who's going to be

(26:05):
at the party, And if the right people aren't at
the party, it's not the same party. And I feel
like college football has been this like very insular, tight
country club kind of preaching.

Speaker 2 (26:15):
To you you don't belong.

Speaker 1 (26:16):
And yes, unless you're like Georgia, Alabama, Ohio State and
formerly Clemson which is now just an average program, but
now with a twelve team playoff, you're willing to emotionally
invest in college football because you can lose a game
or two. I wouldn't be shocked if a three loss
team from the Big Ten or SEC got in. This weekend.

(26:36):
I watched USC and LSU. It doesn't matter that LSU lost.
It was close, they led for most of the game.
They run the table, lose another game to maybe Georgia
or Alabama, they can get in Notre Dame's not going undefeated.
Nobody's going undefeated outside of maybe Ohio State, and I
don't think they will. I think they'll lose in Eugene
to Oregon, but we'll see teams will EBB and flow.

(26:58):
Obviously Week one Oregon look table. Ohio State looked much better.
But the point is the ratings were exploding, and the
reason they're exploding is because college football feels more like
a block party instead of a country club. You know
block parties. You live close enough, stop by six o'clock Saturday.
Everybody's welcome, and that allows you to feel like you

(27:20):
can invest in it because there'll be a potential payoff
at the end of the year. It doesn't now feel
like it's as regional and a country club and you
don't belong here. The twelve team playoff is one of
the smartest things any league has done, any sport has done.
I think it will be an absolute game changer and

(27:40):
you will see some almost NFL ratings come December.

Speaker 2 (27:44):
I can't wait. Here's Jmack with a news no, no, no,
this is the Herdline news.

Speaker 3 (27:53):
Thursday night Colin.

Speaker 4 (27:55):
NFL officially kicks off Ravens Chiefs or rematch of the
AFC Championship game. Baltimore obviously looking to avenge the loss,
but Lamar says they're not gonna look at this as
a revenge game, because any game he plays in feels like.

Speaker 3 (28:11):
A revenge game.

Speaker 4 (28:12):
Okay, Lamar Jackson, Chiefs are favored by three. A lot
of newness for the Ravens in the offensive line. He
gets iron line.

Speaker 1 (28:21):
I think it's a little overplayed. They have a great
left tackle in a great center, the two most vital
offensive line positions. They're excellent both. And I think, I think,
I think this could be a high scoring game.

Speaker 3 (28:32):
Huh.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
But until the Ravens can beat them, I don't believe it.

Speaker 2 (28:39):
It's one of those prove it.

Speaker 1 (28:41):
You keep telling me you're gonna do it, Buffalo, you
keep telling me you're gonna be great in January, then
do it. And I think there's a psychological barrier now
a little bit with Baltimore. I mean even Lamar Jackson's like,
I gotta lose weight, I gotta be faster.

Speaker 2 (28:57):
Yeah, like his speed was ever an issue.

Speaker 1 (28:58):
So I think Kansas City in Baltimore's head now they
can I mean Detroit beat Kansas City last year in
this opener, which is why I think the Chiefs are very,
very ready for this one. But it does feel it's
the Baltimore Kansas City thing is starting to feel like
the Buffalo Kansas City thing, and they're winning that mental
war before the season starts.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
Two things I'm looking for for the Ravens.

Speaker 4 (29:20):
Obviously, you know, are they gonna be able to take
advantage of Snead being gone?

Speaker 3 (29:24):
He was the awesome press cover corner. And the other
one is the Chiefs left tackle situation.

Speaker 4 (29:29):
I don't know if the Ravens have the personnel in
the pass rush to really bother Mahomes because the left
tackle uncertainty.

Speaker 3 (29:35):
They're starting the second round rookie out of BYU.

Speaker 4 (29:37):
I mean, that's not great. I think the Chiefs are vulnerable.
I think they do win this game. It's tough to
bet against Andy Reid. What is it Andy Reid coming
off of buy or coming off about the league the
rest and in September.

Speaker 2 (29:48):
He's great.

Speaker 1 (29:49):
And I also think one of the things that makes
it so difficult is that a lot of teams you
look at Kansas City and go, oh, there was Shei
RII situation, and there were some controversy around the team
and Taylor Swift and all the distractions. This is what
Kansas City has been for three years. They're the opposite

(30:10):
of the Patriots. They're always at the party. They go
to every party they're invited to. It doesn't affect them.
It just doesn't affect them at all.

Speaker 4 (30:18):
All right, Let's go to the Commanders, one of your
hot teams for this year. They are they are opening
against the Bucks on the road. They got new ownership,
new GM, new head coach, and a new quarterback in
jayde Daniels. With all the moves, they're not seeing themselves
as rebuilding GM Adam Peters who came from San Francis.

Speaker 3 (30:36):
They're a team that could win now. And you know,
I hate to give.

Speaker 4 (30:40):
You credit for this, but I'm starting to piggyback a
little on this Commanders.

Speaker 6 (30:44):
Now.

Speaker 4 (30:44):
Their secondary is total garbage and very young, and they're
gonna get picked on. But they could just win a
bunch of high scoring games if Jane Daniels knows what
he's doing.

Speaker 3 (30:54):
Kingsbury, I think we like him right well.

Speaker 2 (30:56):
I feel like Kingsbury pounded the table.

Speaker 1 (30:59):
I was told for Jaden Daniels, he was really into him,
so they knew they weren't going to get Caleb Williams.
And when he took this job, remember he didn't have
to take the job. He made a ton of money.
He was a head coach in college, seven figure college
and pro coach.

Speaker 2 (31:12):
He didn't need this job.

Speaker 1 (31:13):
One of his things was, I like this job, but
this kid at LSU, this is my kind of quarterback.
So if you look at Kingsbury's history, he likes guys
that can move. Obviously, he had success with Kyler Murray
Patrick Mahomes in college. So I think it's a very
easy transition. I think Jaden Daniels got the perfect And

(31:34):
here's the thing with Cliff Kingsbury. I've been told this
by two different people that have worked with Cliff.

Speaker 2 (31:40):
Then he's super smart, super engaging.

Speaker 1 (31:42):
They don't know if he's tough enough on players to
be a head coach in the NFL, because he is
very pro player as a former player. But in terms
of intellect and connectability and the development, Kingsbury is very
highly thought of. My guy's really like him, but again,
sometimes you know there's a difference. My take is Kingsbury

(32:04):
may be best student and go back to college and
be a college head coach. NFL is a whole different ballgame,
and maybe he learns from the Arizona situation. But as
a coordinator, I think we're gonna figure out very quickly.

Speaker 2 (32:15):
Kingsbury is special.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
He's good.

Speaker 4 (32:17):
Tampa Bay, you know, I know they made the playoffs
and won a game, but their defense started to get
old at the end. Lost a cornerback. You know, they
were like a league average unit. They're getting a year older.
There's a world where Jadon Gaaniels comes out for like
with like three hundred yards passing and they torched Tampa
And this is like a thirty five to twenty seven
kind of game.

Speaker 2 (32:36):
I bet the over and.

Speaker 1 (32:37):
My Week eight, this game may not be interesting.

Speaker 2 (32:39):
Week one, it's really interesting.

Speaker 4 (32:41):
Jane Daniels the debut. I mean, you like him, and listen,
you were earlier than everyone else. I'm watching this occasionally.
You know, the scorel finds a nuts, so maybe.

Speaker 2 (32:49):
You're right here. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (32:50):
Final story this, Jamar Chase holdout or sorry hold in
with the Bengals.

Speaker 3 (32:55):
It's just not great.

Speaker 4 (32:56):
Still not participating, waiting for that long term deal. Cincinnati
plays the Patriots Sunday and Chase's I mean currently not signs.
Zach Taylor says the team continues to take things day
by day.

Speaker 3 (33:08):
Situation is fluid.

Speaker 4 (33:10):
Taylor added there's contingencies in place if he doesn't play.

Speaker 3 (33:13):
Chase wants a penny more.

Speaker 4 (33:15):
Than justin Jefferson's extension, which was four years, one hundred
and forty million. The line has come down from nine
and a half to eight and a half. I don't
think Chase is worth a point. But you have to wonder, like, listen,
Joe Mixon's gone, Tyler Boyd's gone, Jamar Chase not showing up.

Speaker 3 (33:30):
Do we have a producer here who's a little nervous
about the Bengals in week what? There's no way they
lose this game, right, Well.

Speaker 1 (33:36):
You know it's at home, the weather's good, the better
offense will win. You know, New England could beat them
in a nor'easter maybe, but not now. With the current
state of the Patriots, I don't This is kind of
a wait and see team for me. Indianapolis and the
the Colts and the and the Bengals. To me, I
just quarterback. Hell, let me watch him play for a month.

(33:58):
I just don't know what they are so I don't
know what Philadelphia is going to be either, but they
have so many good players in a weaker division, Philadelphie
is gonna win ten games.

Speaker 3 (34:06):
Burrow's had some slow starts over the years.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
Man, do you think all summer he always heard it,
well Bengals Borrow slow starts, and he comes out on
fire here, and I mean he's going to be able
to pick on the Patriots. They're not a good defense,
they don't have a lot of anything. Honestly, I did
fantasy draft last night. I don't think one Patriots player
got taken, not even the running back Stevenson.

Speaker 3 (34:25):
Like, they don't have good players. They don't Juju Smith, Schuster.
Look at their wide receiver room. It's got to be
the worst in the league.

Speaker 4 (34:31):
So I don't I see a war with them, Like
I know you do survivor leagues, right where you get
to pick one.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
Team, Well, Cincinnati's your plug, that's the play.

Speaker 3 (34:38):
I mean, everybody's taken.

Speaker 4 (34:39):
Like, there's really not even a Seattle if you're I.

Speaker 1 (34:43):
Don't know, Seattle could be a lot better. A lot
of people that I respect like the Seahawks.

Speaker 3 (34:47):
So I bet the Seahawks to win the division. The
NFC West.

Speaker 2 (34:51):
You know smithover Shafford.

Speaker 3 (34:53):
Now you're not picking the quarterback. I'm McDonald is the guy.

Speaker 1 (34:56):
I'm Rotney over Stafford and McVay.

Speaker 3 (35:00):
See hell healthy sefferative. By the way, how's that offensive
line for the Rams? See the injuries the last couple weeks.

Speaker 1 (35:05):
Come on, it's all a smoke screens over healthy and
fit as a young Jim say Aardonald, you.

Speaker 3 (35:10):
Know you lose a super staring Aaron Donald.

Speaker 2 (35:12):
I no big deal.

Speaker 6 (35:12):
They're fine.

Speaker 2 (35:13):
Hall of Famer. Jmack with the news. The news and
thanks for stopping the line.

The Game of the Year is here on Big Noon Saturday,
when yours and fourth rank Texas class with ninth rank
Michigan in the Big House.

Speaker 3 (36:20):
Start your Saturday at nine.

Speaker 4 (36:22):
Am Eastern with Big Noon kickoff live from Ann Arbor.
Then it's Texas Michigan at nun on Fox.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
So Tom Brady stopped by earlier and one of the
questions I asked him, I said, Tom, all your years
in football, when you watch Jayden Daniels, or you watch
Bow Nicks or Caleb Williams, what will you see that
will tell you, Okay, that's going to work in the NFL.

Speaker 9 (36:48):
When you're looking at starting quarterbacks in the NFL, everybody
should be able to throw the wall. Well, everybody should
be able to drop back and make accurate throws. It's
what can you do when you're in front on the road,
in front of seventy thousand people, and every single player
in the offensive uttles looking at you and your eyes going,
does this guy have the confidence in himself to bring

(37:08):
us back when we're losing in the fourth quarter? And
I think that's the mark of what I see in
quarterbacks when I watch them. I want to say, Okay,
does this guy have the maturity, does he have the poys?
Does he have the composure to be at his best
when his team needs him the most?

Speaker 1 (37:22):
And I think this is something that we've talked about.
You can tell a lot about what a coach thinks
of his quarterbacks by the plays he calls. And it
was interesting. I was watching USC and LSU this weekend
and there was Garrett Nusmeyer and Miller Moss playing, and
I know they're pocket guys, but both are eligible for
the NFL Draft, and they had a bunch of young receivers,

(37:44):
and I'm watching Brian Kelly and Lincoln Riley and they
are letting those guys sit in the pocket and sling it.
And I know everybody loves mobile quarterbacks, but Lamar's not.

Speaker 2 (37:54):
Winning in January.

Speaker 1 (37:55):
Either's Josh Allen, Kyler, Murray's getting hurt. And I'm looking
at this season and I thinking Burrow, CJ. Stroud, Matt Stafford,
Jared Goff. There are a lot of pocket quarterbacks doing
a lot of things in the NFL. I just watching
this game, I'm and I'm USC's receivers are young, the
old lines young. And that told me that Lincoln Riley
thinks Miller Moss can sling it. He let him stand

(38:16):
back there under pressure and let it rip us blown
away by him. And that kid's draft eligible. And Garrett
Nussmeyer is crazy accurate. And both those guys, as it
was pointed out by the broadcasters, did not bail on
their programs. They both had to sit for a couple
of years even though they're super talented and watch other
quarterbacks get the love and the praise. Now, those quarterbacks

(38:39):
Jad and Daniels, Caleb Williams very well. But when I
watch that game, I'm thinking to myself, we're all we
all know Shador Sanders at Colorado's good, and the bet
kid at George is very good. We think Riley Leonard's
kind of good, but he's kind of inaccurate, don't really
know what he is. I'm watching those two guys and
I'm like, I know, nobody likes pocket quarterbacks, but CJ.
Stroud's a pocket guy, and Jared Gof's a pocket guy.

(39:00):
And Tom Brady was a pocket guy.

Speaker 2 (39:02):
And CJ.

Speaker 1 (39:03):
Stroudstands in there, and Joe Burrow stands in there in
Matt Stafford's and are we going to have a slight
pivot not a full pivot, but a slight pivot back
to pocket guys. Lamar and Josh Allen are not winning
in January. Kyler can't stay hurt healthy and Jalen Hurt's
last name is appropriate. He's been hurt a lot.

Speaker 2 (39:23):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (39:24):
I'm not saying I understand that we all love mobility.

Speaker 2 (39:26):
I do. I'm the biggest fan of Lamar a you're
gonna find.

Speaker 1 (39:29):
But I'm just sitting there thinking, listen to Brady, and
I'm watching the LSU USC game, and I'm watching the
confidence that those two head coaches had in these guys
starting their first big game. And it was just kid,
you let it sling, and those quarterback now now Nessmeyer
wasn't under a lot of pressure. Miller Moss was. I
was blown away by how accurate. And he's a kid,

(39:51):
Miller Moss. He's had two games in his career. He's
thrown for about three hundred and seventy yards in both
of them, and yet has never had one hundred yard
receiver in either one of them, so he canmpletely sees
the field. Miller Moth left right. He's throwing the ball
to everybody, tight end, slot corners, receivers, corner, perimeter receivers.

Speaker 6 (40:09):
I don't know.

Speaker 1 (40:10):
Somebody asked me yesterday. I went to lunch with my daughter.
Somebody came up and said, Hey, the Raiders are going
to take a quarterback. Who are they going to take?
And I said, well, if they're number one, they'll take
the kid from Georgia. But I have a feeling as
I watch college football this weekend, I could not It
really was eye opening how much quarterback play at the
college level has improved. The coaching now is excellent. The

(40:34):
seven on seven camps at that LSU USC game, those
guys are good. Those are good. I don't know what
they're Maybe they're fifth round picks.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
I don't know. It's too early, but.

Speaker 1 (40:45):
I'm watching that game and those guys are making tough,
tough throws. Miller Moss is sitting in the pocket getting buried,
getting guys in his face and throwing darts all over
the field, just saying, I know we all love the
mobile guys. A lot of Super Bowls from guys that
stand in the pocket, a lot of Super Bowls.

Speaker 3 (41:03):
What did you think of cam Ward for Miami.

Speaker 1 (41:05):
I don't know if he's an NFL guy. I've been
watching him for years at Washington State. He's a fun player.
He's got some backyard football.

Speaker 4 (41:11):
He's got He's gonna have over fifty starts by the
end of this season in college.

Speaker 2 (41:15):
Like, I like him.

Speaker 4 (41:16):
He looked in I mean, he's got You don't want
to overreact from one game, but again, look like a
top ten pick.

Speaker 2 (41:21):
I'm not kidding.

Speaker 4 (41:22):
He's I don't know, I mean he looked. I mean
he's making dart throws eluding pressure.

Speaker 2 (41:28):
We both like that. I mean we watched them at Washington State.
He was good there. It was good.

Speaker 4 (41:31):
But this is you know, SEC on the road. You know,
the swamp was rocking for like a quarter until it was.

Speaker 2 (41:36):
A Florida Florida State. Florida and Florida States think they're bad,
bad bummer. USC doesn't our three neckt
