Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Oh so many good things. Chiefs Ravens tomorrow are friend
of the Athletics. Senior NFL insider Diana Russini covered the
NFL for was it nine ten years? Okay? The first
thing is we saw the Niners. They were real noisy.
We're calling the Niners Jets the baggage Bowl. Everybody's got
all these stories and all this noise. But Trent and
Ayuk are back. Hassan Reddick, Remember Huff left of the Eagles,

(00:48):
so the top sack guy left town to go to Philly.
So they got in resitic Hassan Reddick to replace him.
Where are we on his deal with the Jets.

Speaker 3 (00:57):
Diana, Yeah, let's start with that. He's the last one
holding out technically at this point right now that Trent
Williams showed up and got his contract, so I was
told that both sides are communicating. So this isn't one
of those standoffs where you know they're ignoring the other
and they're not calling the other back. They're at least
having conversations. I don't have a lot of confidence that

(01:20):
it's going to get fixed and figured out before the
Monday night game in San Francisco. But to me, when
you're covering these types of stories, communication is always a
good thing. It can lead to some hope, into some
things to start moving in the right direction. The New
York Jets want him there. They have put out every
message that you could possibly want out there in terms

(01:42):
of through the media of Hassan, come on, man, get here,
we want you. You have a locker. You know they've
done it all and this is really going to come
down to what the player wants to do here. And again,
you know, Colin, you've broken this down and dissected the
decision making from the New York Jets in terms of
trading for a player without a contract. It will still

(02:02):
remain one of the most curious decisions when we reflect
back on this offseason of what happened here. Was this
a miscommunication? Was this overplaying a hand? Was this two
sides thinking it was going to go differently. Obviously they
both thought this was going to go differently, And now
here we are just a few days out from a

(02:23):
big Monday night game and they don't have a guy
that they were hoping was gonna be a big part
of this defense.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
So I don't know how good this team's going to be,
but I think this is just a great story. Russell
Wilson's name the starter. I kind of felt like privately
he and his agent Mark Rodgers Russell were kind of
given the one, like we're not we're going to bring
it here. It's the one give you some certainty, And
I think it's the right call. How firm I look

(02:50):
at this Steeler schedule, How firm is this grasp for
Russell Wilson as QB one.

Speaker 3 (02:57):
I don't think it's as firm as everyone probably wants
it to be. Look, if he stays, that means they're winning.
If he's the starting quarterback, that means he's handling this offense.
Is Arthur Smith. Look at the level that they expected
to be justin fields put up a competition, right, So
I understand the pole position phrase threw everybody off, And

(03:17):
I think there were a lot of people out there
and perhaps maybe even whispering about it, of this is
Russell's job. When I was in Pittsburgh, I was told
this was a true competition and there were times where
Justin Fields was making a really strong case, especially when
Russell Wilson wasn't able to be out there because of
the calf. So when Omar Khan, the general manager of
Mike Tomlin, sat in a room, they made the decision

(03:38):
to go with the veteran based on the experience. And
you have two quarterbacks here who mentally need to continue
to be built up. Both of their confidence have taken
a hit, and how could it not right. You look
at Russell Wilson and the way that ended in Denver
and obviously that just was not a good match with
Sean Payton, and there was there was. He took a

(03:58):
lot of hits coming out of Denver. So there's a
little bit of build up, a psychological build up.

Speaker 4 (04:04):
Right.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
He's been named the captain. That's a really good call
by Mike Tomlin if you want to make your starting
quarterback feel like he is the guy, and that is
what Tomlin has consistently done since Russell Wilson visited with
the Pittsburgh Steelers during the off season. Is hey, man,
like we like you, we love you, we think you're good.
He's doing all the right things to make Russell Wilson

(04:28):
remember that he's a guy that can play. And then
you have Justin Fields, who we know that the Bear
situation unfortunate, but it didn't work there despite a lot
of fans believing in Justin Fields. Obviously, we know front
office didn't think so. So he's another work in progress,
but he definitely has made a really strong case. He's
going to be part of the offense. Arthur Smith told

(04:48):
me he's going to be part of this offense in
terms of how it's going to look. They're going to
have packages for him. We've seen a Smith offense in
Tennessee before look that way. So this isn't going to
be a scenario where the backup quarterbacks just sitting on
the bench holding the clipboard, you know, possibly scrolling through
Instagram during timeouts. Now, this is a guy that's going
to be very involved.

Speaker 1 (05:10):
Speaking of Sean Payton, bow Nicks named captain today. You know,
we both know Sean. I think Sean likes his roster
better than Vegas draft kicks. I look at all these
over unders and I'm like, people think Denver's gonna win
five games. I think Sean thinks he found the guy.
I think Sean may think he has the best quarterback

(05:31):
with What are you hearing? What are your expectations? It's
been a quiet collaborative. It's been a nice offseason for Denver,
hasn't it in the last month.

Speaker 3 (05:41):
I don't think Sean Payton thinks he has a good quarterback.
I think Sean Payton knows he has a good quarterback.
He's all in on Bonicks. Right, So the Denver bronc
has had it named a rookie quarterback since nineteen sixty seven,
since Floyd Little was a captain right nineteen sixty seven,
and here Bonicks not even picked as a top quarterback

(06:02):
those six of all the quarterbacks picked. Is the captain
of the Denver Broncos. Now, after what was described to
me by Sean Payton when we interviewed him for Scoop
City as just an outstanding training camp. Understanding the offense.
He's comprehending it. He's in the meeting rooms absorbing as

(06:24):
much as he possibly can. He's communicating with Drew Brees.
He's they're giving this kid everything to succeed, you know,
And I know we just touched on what Mike Tomblin's
doing in Pittsburgh in terms of building up that mental side,
the confidence in these guys. Sean payn has put on

(06:44):
a masterclass on how to make a rookie quarterback believe
that his head coach is in his corner, that he's
gonna be his cupman. Because that's what Sean Payton has
done this entire offseason, which is he's expressed it, but
he's obviously shown that he believes in this choice. Because
bo Nicks is the starting quarterback and now the captain

(07:05):
of the Broncos, you.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Know, Philadelphia has a better roster than anybody in their division.
But when the story comes out that Nick Sirianni and
Jalen Hurts, you just don't see this Like you don't
see offensive coaches struggling with young quarterbacks. McVeigh saved Jared Goff.
I mean, like like I understand like Belichick and Mac Jones,
like I get that Pete Carroll and Russell Wilson, I

(07:31):
get that young coaches and young quarterbacks. I mean they
are allies. They elevate both. When I see that story,
they don't really like each other. I'm like, who whoa, whoa,
whoa woah, forget Mike McCarthy on the hot seat. They
paid Jalen, They're they're not selling Jalen. Am I crazy
to think that Sirianni needs to have a good September,

(07:53):
like needs to start well or is it not that
kind of pressure?

Speaker 3 (07:57):
The most sane person I know right now saying that
absolute dislutely, Nick Sirianni needs to have success coming out
of the gate here, especially in September. They've played every card, right.
They did what you do when you start to lose
confidence in the head coach, you get rid of the coordinators, right,
That's always the move. So they fire Brian Johnson right

(08:19):
after they get bounced last year from the wildcard round.
They fire Sean Desaigh and Matt Patricia. Howie Roseman comes
in and hires Kelen Moore and Vic Fangio. He's got
extremely talented coordinators on both sides of the ball. The
offense in Philadelphia is all Kellen Moore. There's gonna be
a lot of emphasis on the run game. This is

(08:39):
going to be a Saquon Barkley show. It's different down there, Colin.
It's different all of it, and it's good. It's good
for Philadelphia. They needed this. You talk about disconnects, you
talk about relationships not working. That is very true. There
was a disconnect between Nick Sirianni and Jalen Hurts. That's
not the case right now. Howie Roseman made a really

(09:02):
good decision saying to Nick Sirianni, you're stepping away from
all this. I'm giving the play Colin a kellum Moore
and you're gonna oversee all this and you're gonna use
all the skills that you have as a head coach,
because he is skilled. And the guys love Nick Sirianni
down there, But in terms of where they think they
can get the most out of this roster, because ownership

(09:22):
believes they put together a championship roster and we can
go through we know how many all Pro players are
on this team, with the exception of losing Jason Kelsey,
who we know was Essentially it's like having a coach
out there calling the protections and being such a significant
leader both on the field and in the locker room.

(09:43):
It's a gigantic loss. And we're going to be talking
about this again this season about where this line may have,
may take a step back, or may not look as
stout as we've seen as they adjust to it. That's
the area I'm watching in September. But all in all,
the pressure's on Nick. He needs to say I got
the answers as I'm the CEO of this team now

(10:03):
overseeing it, because they're giving him every reason to have
success now.

Speaker 1 (10:09):
Diana Rossini, the athletic senior NFL Insider, she has a podcast.
You can see the ice cream thing here. I'm pointing
to it right there on the airport.

Speaker 3 (10:18):
Do you get it? It's an ice cream coach the
football in it.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Oh, oh, that's very clever. Lere'd it go? It's very good.
Chase Daniel is in it, and uh Diana and podcasting
is a new venture and she's works very hard, but
she's really good. Right out of the chute. You know
what you're doing, and way to go, and we'll talk soon.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
Thank you, all right, Thanks.

Speaker 1 (10:42):
Diana Rusini Scoop City. Check it out.

Speaker 2 (10:43):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon Easter nin am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app. Jmack with the news
turns this is the herd Line News.

Speaker 5 (11:00):
Game I love this weekend is Vikings Giant Sam Darnold
officially set to be the starter all season. You know,
JJ McCarthy's done to the year with the knee injury.
Donald on his fourth team. I kind of missed that.
It's it's flown by. He's gonna start with a pretty
good coaching staff.

Speaker 1 (11:16):
We love Kevin O'Connell.

Speaker 5 (11:17):
Vikings OCI Wes Phillips believes Darnald is set up for success.

Speaker 4 (11:23):
He's got a lot of experience playing football and being
in different systems. I think, you know, you have some
you have some history with some concepts and and a
lot of us run very similar concepts. There might be
a tweak here there, or maybe we coach it a
little bit differently, or coach the footwork a little bit differently.
But the one thing he's done is is come out

(11:47):
and be able to throw the football extremely well throughout
the throughout the spring. You know, we're really excited about
Sam and the kind of year we believe he can
have and will have.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
What do you think nine and eight? That's a little rich.

Speaker 6 (12:04):
Given the schedule, it's difficult eight and nine. I just
think they're gonna be competitive.

Speaker 1 (12:09):
That's what I think. I think they're I think they're
a non playoff team. That's I honestly feel the same
way about Denver. I just think most people acknowledge, most
people agree with US Minnesota is not a playoff team.
But they'll be fun to watch it. They could be.

Speaker 5 (12:21):
Now, look at the schedule called no scheduled to beat
the Giants in week one?

Speaker 1 (12:25):
No, it's it's the hardest schedule in the league. Week
two through week.

Speaker 5 (12:29):
Eight, you're looking at possibly like an H to seven start.
If you don't beat the Giants, has to beat the Giant.
They're gonna be dogs against the Niners. I know Niners
are in a short week. Houston Texans are no joke.
You love the Packers. We know the Jets defense is ferocious.
It's it's that's why I backed off Vikings in the playoffs.

Speaker 6 (12:48):
Look at me. Look at the schedule, cal come on,
that's extremely different.

Speaker 1 (12:52):
No, it's it's now the middle of it. You get
some Indies and Tennessee's and Chicago, Arizona, you got you
got some wins in the middle. But by you know,
that's the thing for Sam Donald because of JJ McCarthy's injury.
The good thing for Sam is he gonna get all
the starts, so they're not going to bail on him.
If if JJ McCarthy was upright right now, they could
be moving off him by the Green Bay game. So

(13:13):
this is Sam's season and they've always been a rental.
So if Sam wants to get the next contract, he's
gonna get this year. By the way, Baker got another contract,
so it's a big year for Sam.

Speaker 6 (13:27):
Yeah, that's a good point about you think he could
be another Baker type.

Speaker 1 (13:30):
Absolutely. Gino Smith was a disaster and Gino now just
got another didn't he get another extension? Was staring it out?

Speaker 6 (13:37):
Yeah, I mean, I like the Vikings this weekend.

Speaker 1 (13:40):
I don't know about you. Giants.

Speaker 6 (13:42):
One and a half on the road.

Speaker 5 (13:43):
Sam Donald going to Bactor where he saw ghosts a
few years ago in New.

Speaker 1 (13:47):
York Ghostbusters of Clean House. There's no ghosts there at.

Speaker 5 (13:50):
Okay, I see you all right. Next up is your
guy Bo Nicks. He stunned everybody at Broncos camp.

Speaker 1 (13:58):
He was so good.

Speaker 5 (13:59):
Not only is he the star, but he was named
one of the team captains for the season, the first
Broncos rookie to do so since.

Speaker 6 (14:06):
Hall of Famer Floyd Little.

Speaker 5 (14:09):
Now Okay, bow Knicks will face the Twelfth Man in
Seattle in his debut.

Speaker 6 (14:14):
It is a really rough one.

Speaker 5 (14:17):
There's no way around it. This is one of the
most sharp bet games. All the heavy gamblers are pushing
this up. Seattle minus six. That's a big number to lay.
But you look at that Broncos team and I know
you're bullish on Denver to not be awful.

Speaker 6 (14:31):
I think they're gonna struggle out of the game. This
is this is rough.

Speaker 1 (14:34):
I think bo Nicks a litle better than you're paying him.

Speaker 6 (14:37):
He's good, he's really good.

Speaker 5 (14:39):
But I mean, you could only make so much chicken
salad out of what that roster is, and it ain't good.

Speaker 6 (14:46):
That's one of the worst rosters in the league. And
there's guys out there who's broke down every roster.

Speaker 1 (14:50):
Okay, it's not one of the worst rocks. If you
just gave them an elite edge rusher, that's a playoff team.
They're just not going to be able to get offenses
off the field. Gave them one guy, give Max Crosby,
by the way, I wouldn't how about that at the
trade deadline Denver goes and gets mac.

Speaker 6 (15:07):
Deedrick's gonna be better than the Raiders.

Speaker 1 (15:10):
Oh come on, wow, Sean Payton, bow Knicks better than
the Raiders.

Speaker 6 (15:15):
What do you have against Antonio Pierce, against anybody?

Speaker 1 (15:18):
But I'm I don't think that's I think you're looking
at two different I like Denver's personnel, Dull Sitt's the
tight end. I got Mims, and the Raiders are better
at tight end. Well, Raiders are better at times, but
the capable tight end, great left tackle? What are their guards?

Speaker 7 (15:34):
Good?

Speaker 1 (15:34):
Two backs? I like, I got Mims, Courtland Sutton and
the kid out of Oregon that bow Knicks played with.

Speaker 5 (15:39):
Yep, And I got that's a bunch of That's a
bunch of B talent on the outside. Davante Adams is
what the Raiders have outside Hey and Bowers and Huston
was a bunch of B talent until they had the
coach and C. J.

Speaker 1 (15:48):
Stroud.

Speaker 6 (15:50):
You just you just this is listen.

Speaker 5 (15:51):
We've been doing this for three four months now, just
batting around ideas. This game time what yes, exactly this weekend.
There's gonna be some truths coming out, like ooh, kind
of whift of the Broncos. When Seattle wins forty one
to eight, that is not happening. That's a forty one
to eight. I don't think there's good I mean, there's
only one over touchdown line.

Speaker 1 (16:12):
That's New England.

Speaker 6 (16:13):
This was six. It's creeping up. They're just all the
professional money is on Seattle this week.

Speaker 1 (16:18):
You know what, Sometimes the Joe's no more than the Pros.

Speaker 6 (16:21):
Very rare, but yeah, sometimes.

Speaker 1 (16:23):
Last year, if I recall last year, the Joe's beat
the Pros because the favorites covered last year as the
league pivots to offense and the star quarterbacks cover the spread.
I think the Joe's beat the Pros. And I think
the average sports fan in America is so much more

(16:44):
sophisticated as a gambler now than they were ten years ago.
It's like everybody used to just take it. I'm gonna
take the favorites. The average guy I talked to, he's
in multiple pools. He knows how to gamble. I mean,
I'm just telling the people I deal with there are
a lot of sharps out are a thousand times more
educated and I don't think the gap between the pros

(17:05):
and Joe's is as I mean, the pros no more,
there's no question, But the Joe's not sloppy Joe's anymore.
You'll be a little more refined Joe's.

Speaker 5 (17:17):
The final story is to the WNBA. Oh yeah, Caitlin
Clark and the Fever secured a playoff spot despite not
playing last night. Colin Indiana qualified for the playoffs for
the first time.

Speaker 6 (17:29):
Since twenty sixteen.

Speaker 5 (17:31):
A seven season drought which was tied for the longest
in the history of the WNBA.

Speaker 6 (17:36):
They're now seventeen and sixteen. I did just check the calendar.

Speaker 5 (17:39):
They're playing the La Sparks tonight, but they have their
first winning record since June of twenty nineteen. Like Clark
leads the WNBA and assists per game, and the splits
before and after the All Star break are unbelievable.

Speaker 1 (17:53):
Oh no, she's a totally different player now.

Speaker 6 (17:56):
And the Fever look good right now. They'd be the
sixth seed in the playoffs.

Speaker 1 (18:02):
Women's basketball is what men's basketball used to be. Women's
basketball in the draft gets four year starters and four
year players so they can make impacts. Nobody in the
NBA draft makes an impact. They're all like nineteen. This
is what college basketball for men used to be, where
you'd get a player like you know, whoever Duncan Ewing.
They'd come in and be aunt Edwards. It took him

(18:22):
to year three until like he just figured the league.
So I the WNBA draft now is better than the
NBA draft. I know the players, at least the top
seven or eight players. I knew all of them.

Speaker 6 (18:34):
Let me ask and I talked about this.

Speaker 5 (18:35):
Monday when you were out on one of your vacation days,
how much WNBA will get into the mainstream as we
get into the NFL in college football season, because the
WNBA schedule lines up where it's like, oh, the playoffs
start in late September. It's like you're competing with Major
League Baseball college football.

Speaker 1 (18:54):
I had a meeting lat yesterday afternoon with my guys
at my company, and I said, let's go find a
Caitlin Clark podcaster. That's I'm not doing that for NASCAR
or baseball. I said, somebody go find me a Caitlin Clark,
somebody that's outrageously funny, smart love just to cover Caitlin

(19:17):
Clark that's all they do every game, every press conference.
I think she's I keep joking Taylor Swift and tennis shoes.
This is a movement. She is a vibe and she's good.
Not Angel Wilson dominant, but she is really good. And
this is what Larry Bird and magic and this is
what you used to get in with the Mends. You

(19:38):
just don't get it anymore.

Speaker 6 (19:39):
Tiger Woods kind of impact.

Speaker 1 (19:41):
Yeah, I mean, she's not dominant, but she's she is.
I mean that it's a Bryce Harper feeling where it's
like the league doesn't quite know what to do with
Bryce Harper. He's like the second biggest star, like rookie
year in the bigs. You're like, I like Bryce Harper
more than everybody else.

Speaker 5 (19:55):
It's like the league is gonna have to figure out
next season. They're gonna have to play the schedule and
give her all the marquee games, just like how the
NFL puts the best quarterbacks and the best teams on
Sunday Night Football, the big windows.

Speaker 6 (20:06):
They got to figure this out for Clark.

Speaker 5 (20:08):
I mean I on TV, her numbers are outrating college
football games.

Speaker 6 (20:12):
It's crazy, like that's unforeseen.

Speaker 1 (20:15):
Yeah, Jaymack with the news.

Speaker 2 (20:18):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by The Herd. Lie.

Speaker 1 (20:22):
I think Texas beachs Michigan this weekend, I don't. I
think it's close. I think it's low scoring, choppy, low
scoring defense dominates. Steve Sark Sarkeishan was on with us
earlier and I'll bring back a couple of minutes of Sark.
I thought he was really interesting live in LA. It's
the Herd.

Speaker 2 (20:37):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and neon Eastern non a EM Pacific.

Speaker 8 (20:42):
He's Mike Krmen, I'm Dan Bayern. We have a fantasy
football podcast called I Want Your Flex.

Speaker 2 (20:48):
That's right, Dan.

Speaker 9 (20:49):
Every week we're gonna scour the waiver wire to find
the pickups to turbo boost your fantasy lineup, sit starts,
fantasy football players rankings to get you ready to dominate
the petition.

Speaker 8 (21:00):
Listen to I Want Your Flex with Mike Carmon and
meet Dan Beyer on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts and
wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 1 (21:07):
Chiefs Ravens kicks off our NFL season. I am it's
under consideration if I do a Blazing five on Friday
I was not gonna do it. A lot of pressure
from the staff name man when whatever. I just I
have no idea what I'm doing. I mean, it's uh

(21:30):
not Yeah, what's funny is I lack confidence on it.
But I know I'll do my homework and you know,
go one and four, two and three. Jamac has got
five and Zer written down, got the money spent. You
haven't seen anybody play in the preseason. You're just guessing
at this point, but you do.

Speaker 6 (21:46):
You're not guessing at all. You're it's a numbers game.

Speaker 1 (21:49):
I know, I bet the number.

Speaker 6 (21:50):
Yeah, you don't bet the teams as much as the numbers.

Speaker 1 (21:53):
I know.

Speaker 6 (21:55):
You could just get on board with.

Speaker 1 (21:56):
The blazing five.

Speaker 6 (21:57):
You can't go in with this negative mindset.

Speaker 1 (21:58):
Well that's a good post.

Speaker 6 (22:00):
For like three months. You come back refreshed and like
just chill and laid back.

Speaker 1 (22:06):
It took a couple of days, labor intensive, always labor intensive.
Steve sarkejan coach of Texas. They faced Michigan this weekend
of the Big House. How good is that It's going
to be on Fox? And I asked him, I said,
how does this Texas team stack up to last year?
And the other Texas teams.

Speaker 10 (22:22):
You know, I like our team this year. I would think,
you know, when you look at our roster, I think
we only have four or five guys on our team
that were here before I got here. The rest of
the players we recruited, a lot of these players have
been here for you know, two, three and four years
now and have really grown up in the culture and
understand what we're about and got great leadership.

Speaker 7 (22:42):
But I also think we've got great depth.

Speaker 10 (22:44):
I would say the one thing about this year's team
is we definitely have more depth than we've had in
any of our other years and are too deep. U
sometimes you can't tell the difference between our ones and
our twos, and and that's great for us. That's that's
great for us right now early in the season where
we could play a lot of players, especially in the
heat when.

Speaker 7 (23:00):
We're at home. But also for the longevity of the season.

Speaker 10 (23:03):
You know, to think that we kicked off August thirty first,
and we're hoping to play January twentieth, you know we're
gonna need We're gonna need all the depth.

Speaker 7 (23:10):
That we have.

Speaker 1 (23:10):
Quinn Ewers now, now, is there an advantage to play
in Michigan early. Harvall's gone new staff. Although it's the
same kind of physical culture, this abys this is a
is a tough one. This is a blue blood. It's
a big game, it's high leverage. Is it an advantage
to play Michigan early.

Speaker 7 (23:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 10 (23:33):
You know, there are some there's plenty of new faces,
you know, And I think there's one thing about Michigan
that that what coach Harbaugh did and now what coach
Moore is doing is and you think about this program,
there's three consecutive years they've gone to the College Football Playoff. Wow,
naturally that's capped off last year with them being national champs.
You know, the amount of draft picks that they've had

(23:54):
thirteen I believe last year. I think they're forty one
and three. In their last forty four games, they've won
sixteen game games in a row. They've won twenty three
straight games at home in the Big House. So this
is a great program. As much as it is about
the team, this current team they have, it's about the program,
the development, what they've done, and so the harder part
for us isn't about that they're going to be a

(24:15):
quality opponent it's about some of the new faces. And
then naturally from a staff perspective, wink Martindale's a defensive coordinator.
You know, we've only got one game sample size of
him as a defensive coordinator at Michigan.

Speaker 7 (24:26):
So some of those things can be a little bit
more difficult.

Speaker 10 (24:29):
But at the end of the day, it's a great opportunity,
you know, to go play Michigan in the big house.
First time I ever calling in the regular season that
Texas is meeting Michigan.

Speaker 7 (24:38):
And so when you two think about those.

Speaker 10 (24:39):
Two iconic programs coming together, and it's pretty humbling for
myself that I get to be on the sideline leading
leading the Texas long homes.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
What did you say to Quinn yours you give you
You played quarterback in college. You've had a lot of
great quarterbacks. What was the one thing after the season
that you told Quinn of yours? Hey, you know, I
mean you do with all your quarterbacks. Here's what we're
going to work on in the off season. What is
the one thing that you said, Hey, let's get better
at this. Because you've you've made your mark with him,
there's no qu even diet wise, you've changed it what's

(25:11):
the one thing you said, Quinn, Let's work on this.
Let's make this a point of attack in the off season.

Speaker 10 (25:16):
This is your team, go leave them. And really it
was about leadership. We knew we were going to have
to replace all those pieces, and we knew we were
going to have to bring in some transfers. We knew
we were going to have to rely on some young
players on the perimeter, and it was going to take
Quinn leading them. It was going to take Quinn getting
the rapport with those receivers in the tight end. It
was going to take Quinn stepping up into that leadership

(25:39):
role where Jordan Whittington and Jalen Ford and those guys
have moved on from. And so that's been our focus
and he's done a tremendous job of that. You can
feel his presence. I think he instills confidence and belief
into everybody in the organization, not just his teammates.

Speaker 7 (25:54):
And that's what quarterbacks do. That's why it's the most
important position in sports.

Speaker 10 (25:59):
You know, you know, if you've ever you know, you've
ever been to Gillette and when when Tom Brady took
the field, it was almost like a sigh of relief
for everybody in the stands like, Okay, Tom's here, We're
good to go. And I'm sure it's the same way
in Kansas City with Pat Mahomes and so on and
so forth. So the quarterback is a powerful guy, not
only with his play, but I just think in the

(26:19):
presence and the leadership that he provides.

Speaker 1 (26:21):
A couple of minutes left, I would argue in a
twelve team playoff if I was a coach, I think
I think I'd be more aggressive because sometimes in college
football's history, it's like I'm not saying anybody coaches not
to lose, but I think everybody's gonna lose a game potentially,
even the good teams that does the twelve team playoff?
Does it matter to you at all or is it

(26:42):
like just go Saturdays or Saturdays?

Speaker 7 (26:46):
I mean, I think it matters.

Speaker 10 (26:47):
There's still some strategy involved, especially if you if you
have to play in the first round, you should love
to have home field advantage and get a home game
and not have to go back to Michigan in December, right,
And you sure would love to win your conference and
to get a buy in the first round. So you know,
I do think that matters.

Speaker 7 (27:07):
I don't.

Speaker 10 (27:07):
I don't think we're out here just trying to be
reckless and take shots and go forward on fourth down.
I do think there's a rhyme and reason to everything
that we're trying to accomplish and what we're trying to
do and developing our team and our program.

Speaker 7 (27:20):
But in the end, I.

Speaker 10 (27:22):
Do think it allots you to play in games like
this and not feel like, man, if we don't win
this game, we have.

Speaker 7 (27:28):
To be perfect the rest of the way.

Speaker 10 (27:30):
I do think it allots you to expose your team
to some tough environments, to play against quality opponents, to
get yourself ready for conference play, and then not have
to feel the repercussions if you.

Speaker 7 (27:41):
Don't come out on top.

Speaker 10 (27:42):
On the flip side of that, man, it can be
it can serve as a great springboard if you know
you're going to going to the big House and get
this win, what it can do for the rest of
your season and the confidence of some of the players
in your program that are just getting the you know,
maybe their second game of exposure to to big time football.

Speaker 1 (27:58):
Twelve and two one the Big twelve. They're pivoting to
the SEC, and I think their roster along with Georgia
is the best in that conference. I only got a
minute left. I know you coached Texas. Did you just
get a couple of minutes of that USC game at all?

Speaker 7 (28:11):
Sark?

Speaker 1 (28:11):
Did your TV?

Speaker 7 (28:12):
How did I know you were gonna ask me?

Speaker 3 (28:14):
Man?

Speaker 7 (28:14):
How did I know? You were so giddy? You?

Speaker 10 (28:17):
You were so giddy You probably went for a walk
the next morning right around Manhattan beach man and you're
just you were kind of throwing, throwing your your victory.

Speaker 7 (28:25):
Sign up there, just just excited about it.

Speaker 1 (28:28):
Hook them great singing you Sark.

Speaker 7 (28:31):
Appreciate you. There, Hey, you got it going. Let me
see a.

Speaker 1 (28:34):
Bit there you go right there. One of my favorite guys,
Steve Start, easy to root for, Easy to root for
all right? Week one NFL schedule, j Mac By the way,
just just a little teaser, Okay, So I'm just gonna
ask you where you leaning? Okay, Baltimore at Kansas City?

(28:58):
Where you lean in Kansas City? I agree? Green Bay,
Philly Eagles. Oh, I'm Packers, stealers Atlanta.

Speaker 5 (29:07):
So this is INtime just to win or with the spread,
because uh looks just for the audience.

Speaker 1 (29:13):
Win who's winning?

Speaker 6 (29:16):
I go the Falcons winning, But I don't think I'm
gonna bet the game.

Speaker 1 (29:19):
I kind of feel it to stay away. I agree,
let's go to another Oh tennesse seed. Chicago.

Speaker 5 (29:26):
Man, I like Chicago, but I'm nervous again. It's probably
a stay away from me. I want to see what
the Caleb HiPE is and the Titans there's a world
where they look totally different than anybody in my notes.

Speaker 7 (29:36):
I know.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
That's why. That's why week one to Nightmare.

Speaker 5 (29:38):
Their new running backs Pollard and Tajy Spears, who I
like a little bit, are like quick guys. I don't
think they're going to be running the football a lot,
But do you trust Will Levis to chuck and duck?

Speaker 1 (29:46):
How about this one? Houston at Indy.

Speaker 6 (29:48):
I'm on the Colts.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
I like the Texans. Jacksonville at Miami over bet the over.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
Well, there's allegedly a monsoon may show up Florida, but
that's like every weekend right in Florida.

Speaker 6 (30:02):
I think I'll lean to Miami with it with the
win there.

Speaker 1 (30:06):
Raiders at the Chargers Harbaugh Opener.

Speaker 6 (30:09):
Divisional dog. I'm not worried about the Chargers here.

Speaker 5 (30:12):
Honestly, I don't think the Raiders are a good team,
but I have a feeling they might win this game.

Speaker 1 (30:16):
What's the line on that three? Well, I think it's
going to be competitive. Listen, Raiders don't know.

Speaker 6 (30:21):
That the Argumentshew is not like a total bum. He's capable.
He could go in.

Speaker 1 (30:26):
You know, I don't know what.

Speaker 5 (30:26):
Is he gonna be fifty to fifty fans or is
it gonna be like sixty forty Raiders.

Speaker 1 (30:30):
Sixty forty Raiders not great? Denver at Seattle Seattle, Yeah,
I think I like Denver.

Speaker 3 (30:37):
We don't like.

Speaker 1 (30:38):
Seattle this weekend. Uh oh. Dallas at Cleveland, I don't
know this is a good one.

Speaker 6 (30:47):
I might have to ride with Dallas. I probably not.

Speaker 1 (30:50):
There's just so many I don't even know what's going
on with Cleveland.

Speaker 6 (30:53):
Deshau Watson. What was the last time he threw up?

Speaker 1 (30:55):
Don't I don't even know. I think I'm going with Dallas.
It's just I have answers with Dallas. There's limited limitations
with Dallas. But you know what Dallas is. Cleveland is offensively.
Jaden Daniels at Baker Mayfield.

Speaker 6 (31:11):
I like Washington here. I think weirdly.

Speaker 5 (31:13):
You know, we have we spend a lot of time
together and you've kind of convinced me.

Speaker 6 (31:18):
I can't.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
I'm not the kind of.

Speaker 5 (31:19):
Guy who gets convinced, but you've sold me so hard
on Washington for like five months.

Speaker 6 (31:24):
I like him here. They could be good this season.
I don't. Maybe you're right.

Speaker 1 (31:28):
Rams at Lions.

Speaker 6 (31:29):
I think Lions.

Speaker 1 (31:30):
I love the Rams, but the Lions in this spot
really good. Jets at the Niners. The Jets are the
play betting wise, Yeah, no question.

Speaker 6 (31:42):
Can they win that?

Speaker 5 (31:42):
Out?

Speaker 4 (31:42):
Right?

Speaker 1 (31:43):
Oh?

Speaker 6 (31:44):
Just think about how I'll be on Tuesday.

Speaker 1 (31:47):
On this show. I told you I can already feel
it cold right right?

Speaker 9 (31:50):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (31:52):
Those late games Sunday Cowboys Browns on Fox, Rams Lions
Sunday Night, Monday, Jets Francisco.

Speaker 6 (32:00):
Why'd you skip over Panther Saints? You just can't talk
about this?

Speaker 1 (32:03):
Nobody nobody cares. I like. I like Carolina in New Orleans.
I like Carolina.

Speaker 6 (32:09):
Arizona Buffalo Ken Kyler Murray works some magic on the
road here.

Speaker 1 (32:14):
What's the line on that?

Speaker 6 (32:15):
Like six six and a half.

Speaker 1 (32:17):
I would take Arizona in the points. I don't know
if winning, but I take Arizona in the points.

Speaker 6 (32:21):
We haven't seen Josh Allen with stuff without digs in
a while column.

Speaker 1 (32:26):
This is good today. No regression, not on the show.
No regression on the show. One oh five, all gas,
no breaks. We'll see it tomorrow
