Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:24):
All right, Peter Schreger, Fox NFL Kickoff Sundays eleven am
on Fox. You'll see him week after week. We're lucky
enough about once a month he's going to be out
here in Los Angeles and we'll try to put him
on in our chairs. Fox Sports Insider, excellent at what
he does and breaking stories. And I know we'll get
to this in a second. You pick your Super Bowl
teams every year, and I don't disagree with the picks.
(00:45):
I want to start with Kansas City. I've said this
over and over. I think last year was the year
to beat him, and nobody could. I watched him last
night and I'm like, yeah, that's that offense is now good?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
Right, like better?
Speaker 4 (00:56):
Shame on thirty one NFL teams. Shame on them because
you have a team that last year could not go
vertical could had no speed, and they allowed them with
the ability to trade up with one of their competitors,
the Buffalo Bills twenty eighth to get the fastest player
in the NFL draft, maybe the fastest player to enter
the NFL in twenty years, and immediately you saw the impact.
(01:19):
He was a blurn. Last night was just a taste.
They're still learning that offense. Yeah, Marquise Hollywood Brown is coming.
He is one of the other fastest players. Now they
have these deep threats that can go, and then you
saw Rice over the middle. The NFL had a window
last year where the Chiefs were down. They had to
win two games on the road in the playoffs and
they couldn't put them away.
Speaker 5 (01:35):
And I think they're gonna better on offenses year. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (01:38):
I mean, that's my takeaway is nobody plays in the preseason,
so you feel like last night, I'm like, it's still
very experimental, and I'm like, if that's the experiment, and
that Ravens defense is good, Yeah, that's Kyle Hamilton, maybe
the best safety.
Speaker 4 (01:51):
In the sport out and the Chiefs went out there
and they started a second round pick at left tackle
and he held his own against one of the best
defensive line.
Speaker 5 (01:59):
It's a couple years ago.
Speaker 4 (02:00):
The Chiefs had a draft and in that same draft class,
they got McDuffie, who I think might be the best
cornerback in football. They got Carlaftis, one of the best
young rushers. They got Creed Humphrey and Trey Smith, and
they got Pachaco. Other teams don't draft this way. And
if you wonder, like, well, why are the Chiefs so
because they let Willie Gay walk, they let Lugerious Sneed walk,
and they replenish and they fill the cupboard. They're so
(02:20):
talented top to bottom. And it's like Kelsey didn't have
a big game last night.
Speaker 6 (02:24):
They need him to had one big cat And that's
the Chiefs.
Speaker 5 (02:27):
They're still gonna find a way.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
You are higher on the Jets, you have him as
a number one seed. I've said before, I think Miami
and the Jets go down to the final weekend for
the playoffs. Wouldn't surprise me. If they're in, I'll take Miami,
But I don't see either as a super Bowl team.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
You do why I've.
Speaker 4 (02:42):
Been Maybe it's the bias that I was at the
Jets camp quite a bit. I called one of their
preseason games. I am it is like watching the varsity
team play the varsity team in practice every day at
those Jets camps. They are so loaded on both sides
of the ball. And j Mack, I know you have
a long history with the Jets as well, and you,
as a Jets fan, you want to don't say any
of this in August or September, like I don't let
(03:02):
me see it first. They won seven games last year
with unspeakably bad quarterback play.
Speaker 5 (03:09):
Tim Boyle no.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
Longer playing, Trevor Simeon no longer in the NFL, Zach
Wilson a third string quarterback. They also had twenty different
offensive linemen suit up for them in big games. You
add an Aaron Rodgers, who's one of the most accurate
quarterbacks of all time. Who I'm telling you from what
I see again, I'm not an achilles doctor. I couldn't
tell you if he goes he looks amazing. I've been
a practice looking like he is so dialed in. And
(03:32):
you add him to a guys like Breis Hall and
Garrett Wilson and then the defense is outstanding. So to me,
on paper, there is no reason this team shouldn't win
double digit games, and there's no reason this team can't
run away with the AFC. If there's a they're all
biting at each other in those other divisions.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Is there a team, Shrigs you're higher on than the
overall consensus among others.
Speaker 5 (03:53):
I go way over on the Seattle Seahawks.
Speaker 1 (03:55):
A lot of that's very interesting. Was a somebody I
talked to, Yeah, you're into them? What is it with them?
Speaker 5 (04:03):
Pete Carroll's a Hall of Fame coach.
Speaker 4 (04:04):
Pete Carroll is one of the greatest coaches to ever
coach in the NFL. It was in his seventies and
the guys had been hearing the new blood thirty seven
year old head coach and Mike McDonald who comes in
with a defensive scheme that cause fits around the league.
And I can tell you immediately these defenders who are
talking from Seattle saying it is different what we have
going on. And then for the offensive coordinator job, they
(04:27):
go up to the University of Washington. They hire a
college offensive coordinator to come in Grub who last year
was the guy who drew up this offense with Pennox
and a Doonsday and mcmellan and Poulkin. Washington was the
most fun team to watch. They have all these weapons
no one's about. I'm telling you, the vibes are electric
in Seattle right now. And I'm a Geno guy. I
know we've been down the road like Gino Smith. This
(04:48):
sounds like a back end of comment. Geni Smith is
not going to lose you any games in the NFL.
I think in the Niners vibes, I'm not sure what's
going on there. The Rams obviously are going to be
in the mix. I would not be shocked if we're
talking to Seattle as a division winner in the NFC West.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Yeah, I would say.
Speaker 1 (05:02):
John Snyder almost left a couple of years ago because
he wanted more control. He almost took the GM job
in Detroit. He stayed the last two drafts. Dude, there's
like dudes everywhere everywhere. I mean, like, I got two backs,
two receivers, two corners.
Speaker 4 (05:17):
And this kid this year, this Byron Murphy, this defensive
tackles out of Texas. There were no defensive players drafted
in the first fourteen picks of the NFL draft.
Speaker 5 (05:26):
One of the weirdest drafts ever. It was all quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (05:28):
Offensive lineman Seattle was shocked that he was sitting there
when they picked and they got him, and he's immediately
going to make an impact.
Speaker 1 (05:36):
You know. I was saying, if you look at the
history of not only rookie quarterbacks in Week one, but
number one picks. David Carr's the last number one is
that right twenty two years ago.
Speaker 5 (05:48):
Beat the Cowboys. I remember that game.
Speaker 1 (05:50):
That is the last number one pick quarterback to win
his opener. And I said, shrikes. Tennessee has been watching
TV for six months and being told this is the
new Mahomes yep, And I'm like, the Titans are this quiet?
Sit so quiet with all these new, smart, young offensive pieces.
Speaker 3 (06:11):
This is my upside.
Speaker 5 (06:13):
I love this column. The Hard Knocks thing is real.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
You watch Hard Knocks and even if you just see
the clips online, you're like, oh, this is this is Mahomes.
Speaker 5 (06:21):
This guy's unbelievable.
Speaker 4 (06:22):
And the way it's edited and the way they work
on it, Caleb comes across as so darn likable on
this show that you're like, oh, He's gonna lift all boats.
But the truth of the matter is Caleb Williams has
not taken an NFL snapping or rather season game. The
other quarterbacks in that room are Tyson Bagent and Austin Reid,
a second year guy in another undrafted rookie. There's no
veteran voice in his ear, like it might not be
(06:44):
as smooth as everyone's expecting it to be. Meanwhile, Tennessee
line in the Weeds new coaching staff, a bunch of
new players, Like you're saying they could come out there.
I like that as an upset special. Chicago's really good
on paper and they were really impressive on hard knocks
and in the preseason. But what a letdown would be
if at home in his debut after all this hype,
(07:05):
they laid an egg against the.
Speaker 1 (07:06):
Titans Tonight's interesting. Games in Europe always are a little wonky.
Now we're talking about other side of the planet, and
I'm sitting here thinking, you got the Sirianni heat.
Speaker 3 (07:20):
Green Bay I think will be fine.
Speaker 1 (07:21):
They're the young guys, travel well, they're gonna have a ball,
and they're staying like two hours from the city. They're
Green Bay is gonna be fine. They're Philadelphia, I said earlier.
They're very unique in the NFL. There's a difference between
impulsive and decisive. They're the only really well run team
that moves off talented people regularly.
Speaker 5 (07:42):
There's a short, short runway with them.
Speaker 1 (07:45):
And that would lead you to believe they're the Colts
or they're David Tepper, and it's like, no, that's impulsive.
They're usually right, you know, they're they're like offensive coaches.
Jip Kelly was veteran college even though he was winning.
Doug Peterson probably wore out as welcome. Carson Wentz it
was time, and you're like, they're not impulsive, they're decisive.
(08:07):
I don't know though, this year Sarianni hurts the relationship.
You're close to this is it better than we think
or worse? Where do you land on it?
Speaker 4 (08:18):
Last year, how they ended the season, it was as
catastrophic a situation in the league that you could imagine.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
This was a team that was ten and one and
it wasn't good enough. They fired their defensive coordinator or
removed him or reassigned him at ten and one. Then
they went on to lose all those games.
Speaker 4 (08:32):
And I don't even think anyone remembers they lost to
Baker Mayfield in a playoff game thirty two to nine.
Speaker 5 (08:37):
Like it was like it's like a blur.
Speaker 4 (08:41):
The search for offensive coordinator was fascinating this year. Just
about everybody interviewed for that job. Kingsbury came through a
lot of different Kellen Moore came through and they made
the case. And you know, Sirianni's an offensive head coach,
and Kellen Moore comes in with this great resume and
this ability to be a quarterback whisper, and like kell
More is gonna have this huge responsibility on the defensive side.
Speaker 6 (09:02):
There's no more.
Speaker 5 (09:03):
Let's try to mix and match.
Speaker 4 (09:05):
With these Let's go get Vic Fangio, one of the
great NFL defensive head coaches and one of the great
defensive coordinators of our time. And it's like these two
guys are gonna play the biggest role in this thing.
And oh yeah, by the way, we're gonna add Saquon
and we're gonna add all these different young pieces in
the defensive backfield, which was their disastrous spot. My biggest
question is if things don't start off hot for Hertz.
(09:27):
Is Sirianni dealing with every week questions about the hot seat,
and if things don't start out hot at the offensive line,
is that oh my gosh, they were all about Jason
Kelcey and that's it tonight. I think the Eagles take
care of business, I really do. I think they come
in here after a whole off season of hearing it
what they can't do, They're gonna remind people what they
can do. And I also think a huge part of
(09:48):
this stadium. I think it's sixty two thousand. I think
the Eagles fans all travel. From what I hear, there
are Eagles fans who made this trip. I don't know
if the Packers fans are going to show out in
this game.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
Be sure to catch live edition of The Herd weekdays
and Noone easternn AM Pacific on Fox Sports Radio FS
one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 1 (10:07):
So you make an annual prediction, and I don't know
how many years you've been right, and you did it
on Good Morning Football, so you're not unveiling it here.
You've already done this on the internet. So can I ask,
can you can you tell our audience again what that is.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
My annual prediction? The last three years, I've gotten it
right with the matchups right. This year I went out
and I said, on a big shocker, the Chiefs are
going to win again. And I don't want to call
it the three pete pat Riley trademark that we can't
make money off that.
Speaker 5 (10:32):
It's the Chief's pete.
Speaker 3 (10:33):
Okay, okay.
Speaker 4 (10:34):
And they're going to beat the Green Bay Packers and
a sending team that I think Lafleur is going to
have to go through his old colleagues McVeigh, his old
colleague Shanahan, and he's gonna have to go win, probably
in Detroit. I think Detroit's going to maybe be the
better regular season team, but I'm in on Green Bay.
I think that how they finished the season last year
with that win in Dallas then can ticularne impressive, awesome,
(10:57):
and and they're just scratching the service and the way
it is there. I know those guys really well, and
they hired Halfley as their defensive coordinator there.
Speaker 5 (11:05):
They draft guys who aren't reading their headlines, they.
Speaker 4 (11:08):
Draft guys who are overlooked, and all those guys have
this giant chip on their shoulder, including their new running back.
Speaker 5 (11:15):
I think might tear it up the season.
Speaker 1 (11:16):
Josh Jacobs, Yeah, no, it's you know, I was saying,
I'm not sure there's a better team in this sport
and there's some many that do it pretty well, that
draft and develop, and in a strange way, shrigs it's
an advantage not having an owner because they're never impulsive.
Speaker 4 (11:38):
Ever, absolutely right, and they let these guys develop. They
let the coaches, coach Mark Murphy, Mark Murphy of course,
you know, you go through all the different you know,
general manager stuff that they've had over the years, whether
it was Ted Thompson and then of course Goody now
like it's they they're willing to face the heat from
the fans too. You know, we look at it now, like, oh,
(11:58):
of course they moved on from what a what a
gutsy decision to not let Aaron Rodgers keep them hanging
in the balance.
Speaker 5 (12:06):
They did it, and they did the same exact thing
with Farv.
Speaker 4 (12:09):
And if you're a Lions fan or a Bears fan
or a Vikings fan, you're like, what deal did they
sign with the devil that they get to now have
this guy for the next fifteen years? And like they
they see it in practice every day. They traded Aaron
Rodgers away the greatest quarterback of his generation, you know,
most skilled one. Of course, you can say Brady's the best,
but this is a guy that as far as talent goes,
(12:30):
and they were.
Speaker 5 (12:30):
Like, we're good, We're gonna go with the other guy.
Speaker 4 (12:32):
And it worked out, which is just an amazing gamble
and they don't get enough credit for that.
Speaker 1 (12:37):
Peter Schrager, Fox Sports NFL. He'll be on the Kickoff
Sundays at eleven a m. Eastern on Fox. Now, you'll
be out here about once a month.
Speaker 5 (12:46):
I think once a month.
Speaker 4 (12:47):
We're figuring that out from the NFL network side, but
all about I will be out here every single weekend
for Fox NFL Kickoff, which I'm I'm excited for. You know,
we're competitive. I think our pregame show is as good
as any and you know, you.
Speaker 3 (12:58):
Know what, it got really good when they booted me.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
Oh, I was gonna say, Colin, it started I miss
you on that desk. We would all be a the
time and Colin just comes in and say, you know what.
Speaker 7 (13:07):
I think?
Speaker 5 (13:08):
I think in a supermarket, Belichick is kind of like
the guy and I'm like, yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:11):
Call him go.
Speaker 6 (13:12):
I like it.
Speaker 1 (13:13):
They said I had to keep wearing a tie, and
I'm like, hire Shriker.
Speaker 6 (13:16):
Are you wearing?
Speaker 3 (13:17):
Were you wearing?
Speaker 5 (13:18):
Times suits?
Speaker 1 (13:18):
And times I don't mean for you know, it's funny
about it. For years I told management, I said, get
Schreger on this show. He breaks news. I just break jokes.
Let him break news.
Speaker 5 (13:26):
You're amazing what you do, and you were great on
that show.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
You know that, Peter Schrager. We'd love to have you
every time you're in tenh Absolutely.
Speaker 5 (13:31):
I love being here. You know that?
Speaker 3 (13:32):
All right? Jmack with the news. Turn on the news.
Speaker 2 (13:37):
This is the third line News.
Speaker 6 (13:40):
I'm stunned at the Packers in the supermo I'm not.
Speaker 1 (13:43):
I have the Packers so I he shraked right right.
I have Green Bay beating them in the division and
they'll both be great. That Dallas game, there are games
that leave an imprint. They didn't beat Dallas and then
the thing like forty two thirteen. I mean they blew
the doors off of Doallas.
Speaker 6 (14:00):
We got it, Schrager. What about the NFC?
Speaker 7 (14:03):
You have the NFC NAFC championship games also predicted or
is that not?
Speaker 3 (14:07):
What do you got?
Speaker 6 (14:07):
Are the Jets in there?
Speaker 5 (14:09):
I like the Jets.
Speaker 6 (14:09):
Oh yeah, that now we're talking.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
I got the Jets winning a playoff game and having
home field, Like I really feel that high on the Jets.
I think the Jets are gonna blow people away this year.
And I know I'm not gonna take away from your
news update, but like you know, Jets fans are so
scarred they don't want to believe. They haven't won a
playoff game in thirteen years. Haven't been to a playoff
game in thirteen years. Like, it's okay, take a breath.
This team is really good.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Enjoy this.
Speaker 7 (14:29):
Yeah, and I see you got some green on Not
quite Jets green, but a shade of green.
Speaker 1 (14:33):
Packer's Eagles. Great the game, right, I didn't. I didn't
take any summer vacation, but he clearly did.
Speaker 6 (14:38):
Yah, yeah he did. He's all Tam Bart's babe Barts.
Speaker 3 (14:42):
Look a good look at Nicky Beach.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
All right, let's get to the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 7 (14:47):
The Baltimore Ravens unbelievable game last night.
Speaker 6 (14:51):
Isaiah Likely's toe was the difference in a twenty seven
to twenty loss to the Chiefs.
Speaker 7 (14:56):
Despite taking the l Likely doesn't think very of the
defending chance.
Speaker 6 (15:01):
Oh yeah, I like this Isaiah Likely.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
Guy.
Speaker 6 (15:03):
Here's what he said postgame. This is probably the worst
game we don't play all year.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
So this is their best that they got. Mean, good
luck in the postseason.
Speaker 6 (15:13):
That's my guy right there.
Speaker 7 (15:15):
Really almost care about my fantasy team. I drafted him
in two leagues, but he was on my bench last night.
You could just see some guys are ready to pop.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
Well he was good last year.
Speaker 7 (15:24):
Well here's the thing, and again, I know the Vegas
nose crowd is like, oh Vegas, always on. Vegas had
likely over under one and a half catches last night.
He was like the focal point of the offense above
Zay Flowers.
Speaker 1 (15:35):
And I also thought Rashee Rice and him looked like
they're gonna be the volume guys for that team. Yeah,
Rashee Rice used the same move six times.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
He got all but every time he was the same.
Speaker 7 (15:46):
I don't know how he kept getting maxed up with
a linebacker and car like Rice, Like, come.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
On, these are really good players. But you can see
they were the They were the comfort blanket for both
quarterbacks when they got in trouble.
Speaker 3 (15:58):
It was Rice and it was this kid.
Speaker 7 (16:00):
And you know people are spending less on linebackers. So
what did both teams do attack the line? I mean,
Justice Hill had like six catches over the middle against
these slower guys like these are smart coaches. Next up,
bo Nicks, your guy. He is set to be the
first rookie quarterback to start a season over for the Broncos.
Speaker 6 (16:18):
Since Lway in eighty three.
Speaker 7 (16:21):
On top of that, he was named the first rookie
Broncos captain since nineteen sixty seven.
Speaker 6 (16:26):
That's a first for Sean Payton. Here's Nix on the honor.
It's an honor, it's a privilege.
Speaker 1 (16:32):
I'm excited to, you know, be with this group, excited
to be a captain.
Speaker 5 (16:37):
I don't take it lightly.
Speaker 6 (16:38):
I know it's a it's a big deal.
Speaker 5 (16:40):
And you know it hasn't happened often.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
But I'm not gonna take it for granted.
Speaker 1 (16:44):
I've got to come to work every single day and
just prove that you can be a captain.
Speaker 5 (16:48):
But I'm excited to work with these These are the guys,
and you know, I think.
Speaker 1 (16:54):
It's good that we can get there and set the
tone and you know, it's always good to be a captain.
Speaker 3 (17:00):
Really like him. I don't like him this weekend, but
I really like him.
Speaker 6 (17:03):
I was gonna save this for the final say, but
I'll just give it to you.
Speaker 7 (17:06):
Rookie quarterbacks in Week one since two thousand and three,
so it is twenty years of data, fifteen forty and one.
Speaker 3 (17:15):
That's why I took That's why I took Seattle.
Speaker 6 (17:18):
Yeah, I noticed you didn't pick Jayden Daniels in Washington.
Speaker 1 (17:21):
But I know you that was the game I didn't pick.
I would have that was my sixth pick. You warned
me about Weather, so I stayed away from both the
Dolphins Jags game and the Tampa Washington game. So you
deserve a heads up on that because I did think
Washington was one of my top five blazing five picks,
and then I went and looked at Weather, and I'm like,
(17:42):
you're right, I still like Washington to win. In fact,
of all the rookie quarterbacks, I'll just say it now,
I think Jade and Daniels again, if it's not a monsoon,
I think he'll be the best looking of the rookie
quarterbacks Week one.
Speaker 7 (17:53):
Well, well, you're talking about that in the next segment,
but get people got to watch every day.
Speaker 6 (17:57):
We're dropping pearls of Wistarly Weather.
Speaker 3 (17:59):
It's own small pearls.
Speaker 6 (18:02):
Yeah, all right, what we got for the final story here?
Speaker 1 (18:05):
Oh?
Speaker 7 (18:05):
Oh, this is not great Colin, you're at Rams. Okay,
they're already without Aaron Donald who retired. But now it
was announced that Darius Williams, their top cornerback, was put
on IR because of a hamstring.
Speaker 6 (18:17):
It's weird.
Speaker 7 (18:18):
McVeigh was downplaying this, Colin, and then like two days
later they're like, oh.
Speaker 6 (18:21):
Yeah, he's got to go on IR.
Speaker 7 (18:23):
It's like, oh boy, he's their top cornerback out for
four games, Colin.
Speaker 6 (18:27):
The Rams defensive injuries are mounting. I know you like
this team.
Speaker 7 (18:31):
Darius Williams out on the IR, Darien Kendrick cornerback Torn
acl out for the season, Cornerback Trey Tomlinson out for
the season. Quarterback Kobe Durant hamstring questionable. Not good to
be going up against Ben Johnson, Jared Goff and company.
Speaker 3 (18:47):
So this is what I said.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
This game in four weeks, I would take the Rams
and the points this game this weekend. Rams are all
beat up. This is a bad spot for them. I
think the line started three and a half. For McVeigh
to get four and a half, it tells you where
though even the pros are.
Speaker 3 (19:07):
Comin already four and a half.
Speaker 6 (19:08):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (19:09):
Yeah, So I like Detroit in this spot this line.
I almost never give Stafford in the Rams this kind
of points. I just think they're all line their secondary,
and the secondary is not a strength anyway.
Speaker 3 (19:20):
They drafted a safety.
Speaker 1 (19:22):
It's kind of a patchwork secondary to begin with, and
they're more talented guys are hurt.
Speaker 7 (19:27):
Yeah, this is I'm sure McVeigh will come out and
they'll mow down the field and get a couple of
touchdowns early. But that's just a chance to add to
your Lions bet because this offense is gonna be a machine.
Speaker 6 (19:37):
I'll say this though.
Speaker 7 (19:38):
You know how they got two FSU guys on the
Rams defense, right, they drafted them.
Speaker 6 (19:41):
So FSU looks awful in college football and these guys left.
Speaker 7 (19:44):
You wonder maybe they're really really good and ready to
have an impact given how bad FSU's looked without them
on defense, Like they can't stop anybody. There's a world
where the Rams defense is goodbye. Like you say, November.
Speaker 1 (19:57):
Now is a really good football team. They're not going
to be really good this week.
Speaker 7 (20:00):
I remember Rahey Morris left, he's now with the Falcons.
Just a lot of turnover could be a smash spot
for the Detroit Lions.
Speaker 3 (20:08):
Jmack with the news.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
Well that's the news, and thanks for stopping by the
herd Line news.
Speaker 1 (20:18):
By the way, first game with the new kickoff rule,
eleven kickoffs, nine touchbacks, the returns for twenty eight twenty
nine yards. So I said this before pass interference. The
NFL's tinkers with all their rules. I don't love all
the NFL rules. I don't like the pass interference rule
in the NFL. I prefer college. I mean, our feet
(20:38):
can get tangled it it's a forty seven yard penalty.
I don't like the NFL rule where if you fumble
the ball to the end zone, I lose possession and
you get it at the twenty. That's like a jail
time for jaywalking. It's too punitive. I think they're gonna
tinker with this thing. I don't like the way it looks.
It's weird, but it got me to watch all the kickoffs,
and they're just trying to find ways to lower the
(21:01):
concussion collisions. The one thing, I'll say, you see it
a little bit there. You don't get them the several
lines of the old kickoff. It's like, if you can
break through the first line, you can see some daylight.
Because players there's not enough space for fast players to
separate from slower players, so you kind of get a
line of ten guys coming up. But in the NFL
(21:22):
they couldn't get the catch rule right for a decade.
I'm gonna let them tinker. This is what they do,
They've done it for years. They'll get it right. It's
a TV show. It looks wonky, but I don't have
a strong opinion. I think they'll just figure it out
and get it right.
Speaker 3 (21:37):
We'll wrap it up.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
With tomorrow's headlines Today j Max Picks.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Next, be sure to catch live editions of The Herd
Weekdays and Noone easternn a EM Pacific.
Speaker 3 (21:47):
He's Mike Krmen, I'm Dan Bayern.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
We have a fantasy football podcast called I Want Your Flex.
Speaker 2 (21:52):
That's right, Dan.
Speaker 8 (21:53):
Every week we're gonna scour the waiver wire to find
the pickups to turbo boost your fantasy lineup, sits arts,
fantasy football players rankings to get you ready to dominate
the competition.
Speaker 6 (22:04):
Listen to I Want Your Flex with Mike Carmon and
meet Dan Byer on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts and
wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (22:12):
My favorite segment every week when Jaymack Boy, when this
NFL season gets hummin he is into these numbers. He
treated us to so many do ws during March badness,
and then he transitions into the NFL season where it's
like free money to buy more Jetskis.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
This is a very exciting time. We believe, I think
you and I are.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
We tend to bet numbers, not necessarily teams. Week one
is historically really rough because the wise guys or the
sharps have had all off season to pick at these numbers.
So generally speaking, week two on Monday, when you start
betting Week two, you get much better numbers than this week.
(22:54):
But nonetheless, there are some beliefs that you and I share,
and then there's others we don't. So let's we call
it tomorrow's headlines. Today headline for the Panthers at the Saints.
Speaker 7 (23:08):
So hardcore listeners who are watching every day, they know
we like this game a lot. We can find edges.
Colin I see a big one. The headline will be
to leet to let get to quit, Saints get hammered.
I like Exavier Legett and the Panthers to come out
on top of New Orleans.
Speaker 6 (23:26):
Colin one thing I looked at.
Speaker 7 (23:28):
Dave Canalis comes from Tampa where he knows the Saints
intimately being in the division. You know how Baker Mayfield
fired last year against the Saints secondary torched them twice
three hundred OAR games, five touchdown passes. I think Bryce
Young comes out and looks really really good here. And
if you look at the Saints colin this offensive line
among the worst in the NFC. Rookie at left tackle,
(23:48):
the right, entire right side is shaky. I don't know
if Carolina can fully take advantage. But Carolina got better
in the trenches. They got better with Legett and Deontay
Johnson at receiver. The defense should be good. Jacon Horn
can stay healthy in the secondary. I like this Carolina team.
I think, you know, not only do you take the points,
but I think on the money line, I think Carolina
can win this game outright and really serve.
Speaker 6 (24:09):
Notice that Dave Canalis, he's big time.
Speaker 1 (24:11):
But for the record, Bryce Young in the last four
games last year, with much less talent than this, kind
of got his feet beneath him and sturdy, so he
played well better at the end of the year. All right,
Tomorrow's headlines today, Vikings Giants, Sam Darnold's a road favorite baby, a.
Speaker 7 (24:30):
Little bit of a roll of the dice. There's some
little tug of war going on. A lot of sharps
like the Vikings, but some people are like, oh, no Giants.
The headline will be I ain't afraid of no ghosts.
Darnald haunts New York.
Speaker 6 (24:43):
Obviously remember the I'm seeing.
Speaker 7 (24:45):
Ghosts in the pocket out of his house rock bottom
for the Darnold era with the Jets, but I like
them this weekend, Colin. I think this Vikings team, the
secondary of the Giants is an absolute abomination, and the
Vikings should be able to with Addison looks like he's
gonna go yep, and Ustin Jefferson should be able to
have a monster game. I like Aaron Jones out of
the backfield, kind of change a pace back, taking pressure
(25:07):
off the Blitz, which we know the Giants are going
to dial up.
Speaker 3 (25:10):
Now.
Speaker 7 (25:10):
The concern is, I'm sure you saw the news this
week Brian Dabole has taken over play calling. You know,
when an offensive mine does that, he knows he can.
Looking over his shoulder a little bit, what's going on,
Dabell is not going to be messing around. I think
this is a really close game. Whoever has the ball
last probably wins. But anytime I can fade Daniel Jones
at home, where he's been terrible throughout his career, you
(25:31):
kind of have to.
Speaker 6 (25:31):
And by the way, who's the best skilled position player
on the Giants. It's gotta be Malik Neighbors, right, the rookie.
So you just load up on him.
Speaker 7 (25:38):
Say hey, Devin Singletary, We'll give you all the carries
you want. This is not is a very limited Giants offense,
so I think the Vikings should be.
Speaker 6 (25:45):
Able to outscore him. It feels like a nineteen seventeen Vikings.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
Okay, this next one I stayed away from. Probably a
mistake by me. Tomorrow's headlines today Taxan's Colts Division rivalry game.
Speaker 6 (25:58):
So I said it earlier to vision home underdogs.
Speaker 7 (26:01):
They are in a run Colin seventeen and four against
the spread in the last decade. Early Week one games,
just divisional dogs are barking. The headline will be tailored
for success. Colts dressed down Texans Jonathan Taylor. By the way,
you see what he did last year in Week eighteen
against the Texans.
Speaker 6 (26:20):
One hundred and eighty eight yards on the ground.
Speaker 7 (26:22):
Do you see what happened to the Texans in the playoffs?
Ravens had two hundred and twenty six yards on the ground.
Houston tried in the offseason to fix their run game.
I don't know if it's going to be ready for
this game. Anthony Richardson, who did not play in Week eighteen,
it was Minshew Richardson and Taylor. I anticipate a big
ground game from both of them. We know Richardson's a tank.
I mean that guy's what two thirty five. I think
(26:44):
there's a world where this Texans team still struggles to
defend the run.
Speaker 6 (26:48):
The Super Bowl hype is is.
Speaker 7 (26:50):
It a little out of control at this point? I
mean seriously, like we're going from hey, CJ. Strod had
a great year. Two, they're going to the Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (26:57):
Fair MC Championship. They don't have a history of post seasons,
so they.
Speaker 7 (27:00):
Were favored by one and a half at Indy in
Week eighteen last year. Now they're up to three based
on what Stefan Diggs, I don't see it. I think
the cults are live to win this game out right,
and I bet them.
Speaker 6 (27:11):
And I like the Colts too up pull.
Speaker 1 (27:12):
I think that was very sharp handicapping. I think that
that's why people should watch this little segment. You're very
good at that. I think we'll have agreement here. Tomorrow's
headlves today Bo Nicks the future of the Broncos in
good hands.
Speaker 7 (27:27):
I gotta be careful because obviously Bo Nicks came into
the studio.
Speaker 6 (27:29):
Your buddies with him, you like him, you like Sean Payton.
Speaker 7 (27:33):
I had his daughter on my podcast's she's actually sharp gambler. However,
the headline will be from Bow to boh Broncos.
Speaker 6 (27:43):
Stop and smell the losses this one. You know, it's
tough to not load up on Seattle here. As soon as.
Speaker 7 (27:49):
Remember when they named Nix the starter we were on air,
I'm like, oh you got you gotta bet Seattle and
bo Nick's going to loominfield.
Speaker 1 (27:55):
It's just also it's really loud, and this defensive coordinator
he is there. Everybody around this league is like, dude,
he's the next star.
Speaker 6 (28:04):
So we talked.
Speaker 7 (28:05):
About Tennessee being like the mystery team in the AFC,
maybe Seattle in the NI.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
I think that's fair.
Speaker 1 (28:10):
I'm from there, and my buddies are all really high
on them.
Speaker 7 (28:14):
There's like a quiet confidence when these guys take the
podium and are talking. And I see new offensive coordinator
from college, you know he's gonna be checking the Rub
McDonald first time head coach was like, oh, young vibe,
totally different from Schrager mentioned it. Pete Carroll was the
oldest one. We love Pete, but it's a new vibe
in town. And I think things are looking up for Seattle.
(28:36):
Jackson Smith Nijigba. If you don't have him in fantasy,
just keep an eye on him. He could eat this weekend.
This is a guy who was lined up mostly in
the slot last year, but they didn't open up three
wide receiver sets.
Speaker 1 (28:46):
And also Denver has a pressure situation. They didn't create
consistent pressure and they didn't get a star in the
Dragons Bradley Chubb, right, So I like Denver more than others,
but they they didn't have a consistent pass rush and
I'm not sure addressed it.
Speaker 7 (29:00):
So this is up to six, would not shock me
if it went a little bit higher. I like Seattle
a lot this year, and I like them this weekend.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
Okay, so this was the last game that you talked
me out of I know. So I was gonna do
this game blazing five. This was the one I went
back and forth, stared at the ceiling at three in
the morning, could not figured it out. Tomorrow's headlines today,
My commanders, I command you, j Mack at the Bucks, what.
Speaker 6 (29:26):
Tell you it is a risky play?
Speaker 7 (29:28):
I'm looking at I have the weather report pulled up
at Raymond James Dadium right now. It's like over one
hundred degrees heat index brutal, but they're expecting maybe monsoon
like storms. Not great for a rookie quarterback, right I
don't know how Jayden Daniels is going to do in
the slop. However, the headline will be Austin Eckler City limits.
Daniels a natural on stage. I'm going with Washington here
(29:51):
taking the points, and I'll be nibbling on the money
line as well. You've talked me into Daniels, and I
like Lake Cliff Kingsbury a lot. Dan Quinn is a
proven head coach, knows his stuff. I think there's a
little pullback on the Bucks Colin.
Speaker 3 (30:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:06):
They had a career year with Dave.
Speaker 3 (30:08):
Kanallis that the coordinators matter for quarterbacks. Canalis is a
brilliant guy. Baker lost him.
Speaker 6 (30:15):
We like Todd Bowles as a head coach. He's a
good defensive mind.
Speaker 7 (30:18):
Rookie quarterbacks in Week one fifteen forty and one, So yeah,
there's some concern, but I'm putting my trust in Cliff
Kingsbury as an OC, not as much as a head coach.
Austin Eckler, by the way, like he could have a
really nice game. The linebackers for just not good at
Tampa's I know people push him back against Tampa's defense.
I don't think it's great. I like Winfield in the secondary,
but it's just not the group it used to.
Speaker 1 (30:40):
I think Tom Brady when he got there, they were young, energized,
They had a couple of their studs and their prime.
I think defensive players tend to age fast. There's so
many big collisions. I think the defense got old fairly quick,
and by the time Tom left, it wasn't the same
level of defense. And I think now they feel like
they're kind of hanging on defensively instead of growing in.
Speaker 6 (30:59):
A even Edwins and Godwin. The receivers.
Speaker 7 (31:02):
Dodelan has had some injuries. Evans is old, but still productive.
Washington's defense nothing write home about. I'm just hoping Quinn
can coach them up, if you will.
Speaker 6 (31:10):
And Washington steals a w here on the road.
Speaker 1 (31:13):
So we agree on the Seahawks game, and we agree
on the Panthers game. I think you're right on the
Colts game. I'll probably regret that one, but I you
know the game. My buddy Chad Millman, I do a
Sharper Square segment with him. I really liked Arizona. He's like,
there's seven eight bets on the board that are better
than Arizona. So the one I will say, there's a
(31:35):
game every few weeks that I didn't have the courage
to bet, and I always kick myself, and that game
for me is Arizona a buffalo. I really like Arizona
and the points here you don't.
Speaker 6 (31:47):
Kind of sort of with you.
Speaker 7 (31:48):
I think Detroit has emerged here in the last couple
hours with this Williams on the ir thing, like the
Rams defense, Colin, come on, well, they're not stopping.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
They could be down five starters now. They may no
offensive line by the way, no no, no, Havenstein's hurt centers
now to guard back up left tackle. They're starting tackles
suspended so that it's musical chairs on the old line
and Jared Goff forty two d d's nine touchdowns last
two years at home. This team eats Jared Goff eats
(32:20):
in a dome at home, you know where else he
eats Week one, seven and zero against the spread in
week Wow, Jared, he really.
Speaker 7 (32:27):
Dude, he's the guy's money. I've been down on him.
I know you're bullish on him, and maybe I'm gonna
start listening to you every now and then.
Speaker 3 (32:33):
You know, America does and it benefits them great.
Speaker 6 (32:35):
I could learn something. Yeah, listen, I'm late to the
golf party.
Speaker 7 (32:38):
But listen, there's gonna be a juiced up Detroit Stadium,
whatever it's called.
Speaker 6 (32:42):
They're gonna be fired up for this game.
Speaker 1 (32:44):
You and I don't have to love a team, but
we can. I don't love Tennessee. I love them in
week one.
Speaker 6 (32:50):
And the number two.
Speaker 1 (32:51):
Yeah, I love the Rams. I don't love them in
week one. So like I think Buffalo's good, I'd stay
away week one. So it's OK. Like there are teams.
I think we both think Tennessee is going to be
kind of a drifty Round seven eight, wins, but good god,
six months of Caleb's the future of the league. Patrick Mahomes,
you're sitting there listening, thinking, all right, Tennessee.
Speaker 3 (33:13):
I think you're right.
Speaker 1 (33:13):
I think Seattle and the NFC in Tennessee and the
AFC are big mysteries. And I think if you told
me both snuck back door into the playoffs, I wouldn't
be surprised. I just sometimes you got to watch the games,
and that's how I feel in Week one. All right,
great stuff, Peter Schrager, Thank you so much for making
time in your day for us here in Los Angeles
(33:34):
on the couch. Eric Mangini's on the other coast in
New York with first things First, hope you enjoyed today's show.
The Blazing Five will put it on the podcast. Be Safe,
have fun, Sit back, Eagles Packers tonight
