Thanks for making us part of your day. Julian Edelman

(00:48):
teams in the NFL one hour from now, Jets will
not be in the top ten. I know I got
pushed back last week because I didn't have them in.
They're definitely not getting in well. J Mac time of
possession now, the Jets had them all twenty one minutes

(01:09):
in Aaron Rodgers' entire career. That is his lowest time
of possession. Oh that includes his first year starting.

Speaker 3 (01:20):
Hey, I detect some glee in your voice over the
Jets getting dismembered.

Speaker 4 (01:24):
Have a show Colin have a show.

Speaker 1 (01:26):
So this Aaron Rodgers, this one, this isn't baseball. I
don't care about years ago. This one is forty off
an achilles surgery. He is not mobile. He doesn't leave
a three to four foot radius. He is closer to
Kirk Cousins than Patrick Mahomes athletically. Right now, he has

(01:48):
a below average offensive coordinator. They have no tight end
production at all. He's prickly and they have one elite receiver.
Cross your fingers. He's never hurt. The rolling mobile athletic
Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay, that's over. That's that's high
school juco cal green Bay in his prime. That's over.

(02:10):
He didn't move much his last year in Green Bay.
This Jets offense, let's just talk, offense, is the third
most explosive in their division. I'll give them the edge
over New England. But they don't have a Josh Allen.
They don't have a Tyreek Hill Jayden Wall on the
other side, Mike McDaniel as a coach. It's the third

(02:32):
best offense in their division, and it's an offensive lead.
The Jets scored thirteen points. They had one legitimate drive.
The other touchdown was on a free pass, which I'm
told last night Aaron's the best quarterback ever at the
free pass. I've got my theories. Why, you know, there's
nothing to lose. He hates throwing interceptions. Let's throw it
downfield aggressively. But I guess the good news is now

(02:56):
it's a Will Levis, bow Nicks, Jacoby Brossett, Sam Darnold
on deck and Aaron. I mean again, it can be pretty.
He can still sling it with time, but the structure
around him is so weak. You have a defensive head
coach who looked over matched last night. I mean, San

(03:17):
Francisco did whatever it wanted to. You have an offensive
coordinator who's completely over his head. You have a so
so offensive line. It appears to be okay, and again
one great wide receiver. You know, the Jets bought in
Aaron to be the savior, but that's not his personality.
He wasn't a savior in Green Bay. What was he saving?

(03:41):
They were great the last year of Brett Farb. He
wasn't saving anything. That's not his personality. Saviors are people
that put things on their shoulders, and Aaron's aloof He's
already eye rolling his two best friends. On the team,
Natt Hackett and All and LAZARREDI I rolled both last night.
He's not a savior. Now, it should be noted he's
never been great recently in Week one. His last four

(04:04):
Week one games, he's been atrocious, completing under sixty percent
of his throws a passer rating of sixty. He's a
bad Week one quarterback. And my guess is he is
one of the more distracted off season quarterbacks, so he
does not come to camp as focused as you know
Brady in his prime or Manning in his prime or

(04:25):
Mahomes in his prime. But I don't see anything. I mean,
I've watched football since last Thursday. I saw Kansas City's
offense in Baltimore and Philadelphia and Green Bay, and I'm
watching Dallas and I'm watching San Francisco. I don't see
depth of playmakers. I don't see an elusive quarterback. I
don't see brilliant schemes, unbelievable play calling. I don't see it.

(04:50):
I don't think this is not close to a top
ten offense. And this Eran again, this Eran isn't the
Aaron you remember fondly, or the one in Ian O'Connor's book.
This is old forty off of surgery. One elite receiver,
below average play caller Aaron Rodgers. Here he was after

(05:13):
the mess.

Speaker 5 (05:15):
We expect to greatness when we step on field. There
were moments, for sure. The moments have felt really good,
but not sustained. I think a lot of stuff's correctable,
which is great for coaches. It's frustrating for players because
we know how close we were slash are you know
this is a tough opener for us, job of wise

(05:37):
and schedule wise, but no excuses. We gotta play better.
I gotta play better now.

Speaker 1 (05:43):
There's the other quarterback, brock Party, who, by the way,
as a starter is eighteen and four with a passer
rating of one thirteen. Jmack loves him. I'm okay with him,
but he does. And last night was another example. He
stays on script and he executes this offensive roster. It's insane.

(06:04):
It's I don't it's stacked. I mean, tight end's good,
the backup running back's good. The left tackle's the best ever,
Debo Jennings. I you kittle the other tight end. They
didn't even have their best offensive player last night. He
doesn't need more horsepower. It's provided at left tackle, at
running back, one at running back. Two from the head

(06:25):
coach Brandon Auk Deebo Samuel George Kittle. He doesn't need
more horsepower. You can argue it's the jockey, or it's
the horse. All I know is a horse. San Francisco's
offense is Seattle slew meet Secretariat, meet Seabiscuit. It's pro
bowlers everywhere. So what do I need more horsepower for?
The Patriots built a dynasty on do your job, and

(06:50):
that is exactly what brock Purty does. He does his
job the read accurate, throw it to the right place,
get it to the play. There is no pr guy
behind the scenes talking to Shanahan and John Lynch saying
we need a new campaign. Let Purty cook. He's not interested.

(07:11):
He's more prep cook than chef, back, read, distribute, playmakers
do the rest. He's the classic postman. He delivers the
gifts on time. You can give him the credit, you
can give the players the credit. But I will say this,
I think he's literally the perfect quarterback for Kyle Shanahan.

(07:35):
Remember they not anybody can do this. Let's be fair.
They wanted Trey Lance to do this. That's why they
gave up so much draft capital they wanted somebody else
to do it, and he couldn't. And brock Purty does.
And I love watching San Francisco's offense with brock Perty.
He didn't have a ton of horsepower, didn't have a

(07:56):
huge arm. He moves okay, not great. He's not Lamar
Kyler johnsh Allen, but that's okay. He doesn't add lib
out of the play. Let's be honest. When you watch
San Francisco and you can watch their second running back
look like a top five running back in the league,
A lot of this is Shanahan. You know. I always
said this offense is Shanahan and Christian McCaffrey. After last night,

(08:18):
it feels more Shanahan than Christian McCaffrey. So not anybody
can do this. Brock Purty does. It's just symphonic. It's beautiful.
It's fun to watch. And here was Kyle Shanahan on
his great always throwing to the right spot, doing the
right thing, reading the right target. Quarterback brock Purty.

Speaker 6 (08:42):
He seemed very very good. I mean there was many
plays that he left out there. I thought he made
some big time plays. I mean they're towards the end,
you know, and got a little conservative, just thought that
we had the game and wanted to focus on winning
the game, so we didn't have him do a lot
there at the end. And he was very smart with
the ball and made sure that there's no and so
for them to get back in the game.

Speaker 1 (09:01):
Brock Purty is always smart with a ball. We had
Tom Brady on a couple of weeks ago, and we
asked him what is the secret sauce for young quarterbacks?
And Tom said, it's all above the shoulders. See it,
read it, let it rip execute. We spend so much
time on size and moving and horsepower. And yeah, I
watch Brock Purty. This is the most fun I can

(09:23):
have watching NFL football is watching the Niners offense. Would
it be better if he was six y six and
wildly athletic and not nearly as I mean reliably accurate
deep shots down the field that were incomplete? I mean,
when I watched this, it's like that's how football should

(09:43):
be played. And it feels like, not only is Purty
lucky to have Shanahan as his first coach, but Shanahan
feels like he's lucky to have Brock purty, incredibly coachable,
always throws it to the right place, always on time,
nicely packaged, perfect for the play makers to execute after
they get the ball. So, but the bigger issue for

(10:05):
the Jets, it's not just Aaron Rodgers.

Speaker 4 (10:08):
Again.

Speaker 1 (10:08):
The schedule gets really weak now, so that should mean
they won't need Aaron to do a lot of lifting.
But can I ask a question Robert saw as a
defensive coach? What was that defensively? I'll try to explain
it and unwrap what I watched with the Jets defense

(10:32):
last night. Coming up next, heard Hierarchy forty five minutes
from now.

Speaker 2 (10:36):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
in newon Easter nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 1 (10:45):
Well. As the Jets offense couldn't manage to roll downhill,
the Niners did. San Francisco's leading wide receiver last year night,
John Jennings is really their number three or number four target.
Here's what's remarkable. A seventh round receiver, a undrafted running back,

(11:06):
and a seventh round quarterback for the Niners dominated the
Jets defense full of first round picks. Let that sit
for a While San Francisco led the NFL in big
plays last year, they had ten last night against the
jets vaunted defense, they scored on eight consecutive drives. Robert

(11:27):
saw A is a handsome guy with good energy. He
got worked. He's eighteen and thirty four, and his defense
was remedial and got worked by a seventh round receiver,
an undrafted running back, and a seventh round quarterback. You
cannot win in this league unless you're great at the
top owner, GM, coach, quarterback. The Jets aren't. I mean,

(11:51):
San Francisco did whatever they wanted. Perhaps most troubling if
you're a Jet fan, is at the weakness of the Niners.
This is in dispute, is the old line, and they
pushed the Jets back for four quarters. Jets sweeps, traps, sweeps,
steam routes underneath bubble screens. It all worked. And here's

(12:13):
my question with the Jets, what do I have in
the ABC East. Let's just take their division Buffalo. I
know what I have, an excellent defensive coach and a
superstar quarterback. I know what I have in Miami, brilliant
offensive coach, the fastest wide receiving corps in the league.

(12:34):
Not great in cold weather, can be tremendous and warm weather.
I know what I have even with the Patriots after
a week one physicality defense, I know what I have.
What do I have with the Jets? A now immobile
forty year old quarterback, a defensive coach got worked last
night again? Who's eighteen and thirty four? A suboptimal owner

(12:57):
and offensive coordinator. It's a lot of flim, It's a
lot of noise. It's a lot of sizzleover substance. What
are the Jets? They're actually their own jeopardy question? What
is the team from East Rutherford, New Jersey? What are they? So?
They're not good on defense either, So seventh rounders and

(13:20):
undrafted players do whatever they want against him. The weakness
of the Niners pushes them all over the field. What
are they? I know what Buffalo is, and Miami is,
and Kansas City is, and Baltimore is, and the Rams
are and the Lions are. I don't know what the
Jets are. The Jets don't know what the Jets are.

(13:40):
Here's Robert Sala after.

Speaker 7 (13:42):
They're when he leave football team, And I know they're
a missing Christian but they still have Deebo and Ayuk
and Jennings and a really good old line and a
really good quarterback. So credit to them, Like I said,
they it's a championship outfit. And they introduced this to
some championship football and we'll get that fixed.

Speaker 1 (14:04):
Jmack with the news now is the herd line news.

Speaker 4 (14:15):
I was texting with some Jets fans is this is
what I do.

Speaker 3 (14:19):
We're trying to grade on like a scale of like
an A to and AF Aaron Rodgers performance last night,
and I settled in like a C plus, but it
sounds like you were.

Speaker 4 (14:29):
A little lower than that. On his own.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
What he did last night, it's not what he did,
it's what he is. He did not move from a
four foot radius all night. This is now what he is.
If you look at the top quarterbacks in the league,
forget to throw and make an all throw. Mahomes moves,
Hurts moves, Lamar moves, Josh moves, even Burrow moves.

Speaker 4 (14:51):
Those guys are all under thirty. Yeah, it's not a surprise.

Speaker 1 (14:54):
Aaron's forty off of surgery. He is closer to Kirk Cousins. Now,
grab it, step left or right throw, that's what he
Even Stafford moves down better than Aaron Rodgers, or at
least did this weekend. This is what he is now.
Aaron does not move His last year in Green Bay,
we saw that he was. He was no longer a

(15:14):
mobile quarterback. He was more than this, but he was
no longer mobile. He was just a stationary sit in
the pocket static let it rip and he can be beautiful,
but just no, you have no tight end production, a
suboptimal oc. If Bryce Hall twists an ankle a rookie
running back, you do not have elusiveness at quarterback. That's

(15:34):
just what this is. And that Tennessee Titans D line
is a handful. Ask Caleb, ask mobile Caleb Williams about
that Titan D line.

Speaker 4 (15:46):
So I didn't get the grade. Where are you chiming
in on Rogers?

Speaker 1 (15:50):
I just my question is is he now just a
B minus guy?

Speaker 4 (15:56):
Oh? Be minus is generous.

Speaker 3 (15:58):
But that's why I ask, because I know you're like
a friendly teacher when it comes to grades B minus.

Speaker 1 (16:03):
Well, I don't know what I mean. I'm watching this team,
what is the defense? I think it's not a matter
of what Aaron did last night. What I'm watching with
all that time to prepare this is now what he is.

Speaker 4 (16:16):
Four clean pocket for much of the night, which was nice.

Speaker 2 (16:18):
They didn't really.

Speaker 4 (16:19):
Get to him, the offensive line held.

Speaker 1 (16:20):
It will not be that clean against Tennessee. That's a
much better bass.

Speaker 4 (16:24):
Rush already going on.

Speaker 1 (16:27):
And two on the Jets hunt, I'm just saying it's
going to be interesting place in five jets again. Next Oh,
it's already in there.

Speaker 3 (16:33):
Let's start with the Packers and Jordan Love So he
went down with that mcl sprain in his left knee.
The initial timetable three to six weeks. But get this,
Matt Lafleur hasn't even completely ruled him out for this
week yet.

Speaker 8 (16:48):
I couldn't give you a percentage. But if he gets cleared,
we'll give him every opportunity like we always will. And
you know, I know he's doing everything in his power.
I know where he spent a lot of time trying
to get back as soon as possible. But certainly we're
not going to put him in a position where if
he can't protect himself that he'd go out there. If

(17:09):
Jordan's not cleared, then we'll start the leak and Sean
will be the backup.

Speaker 1 (17:15):
Do we officially know it's an MCL sprain. No, it's
not a tear, it's a sprain, So it'll be sore.
You know, it might might take it yet.

Speaker 3 (17:23):
Risky to put the guy you just signed to a
billion dollar contract just trot him out there with an
MCL spring.

Speaker 1 (17:28):
Well, he played on a Friday, so two extra days, right,
so it will be sore. First of all, this is
really encouraging that he can miss one game. Well, they're
not going to win with Is this gamesmanship from the floor, No,
I don't think anything. We remember young athletes, heal faster
than old athletes, and Green Bay does things right. I mean,

(17:50):
most of these young athletes get hurt, we say eight weeks,
they're back in five or six. So I mean, to me,
this is incredibly encouraging. Whether he plays, maybe it is gamesman,
but what it tells me is he's gonna play, not
this week, the next week at minimum, and that's fine.

Speaker 3 (18:05):
You remember last year Trevor Lawrence had an injury like
a high ankle spray, and they had a Thursday night
game and everybody said, he's not playing.

Speaker 4 (18:11):
He's not playing.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
So I went and bet against them, right, the Saints
and Trevor Lawrence loaded to hold.

Speaker 4 (18:16):
Plays and is fine.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Remember you could be.

Speaker 4 (18:18):
Onto something with this.

Speaker 1 (18:21):
Now you're gonna think you Trevor Lawrence playing exacerbated all
the injuries and he kept getting more hurt. Yeah, so
that's that's probably what Green Bay is weighing now. Willis
is not beating Indianapolis. Indy's good team.

Speaker 4 (18:31):
So Indy's now favored by three and a half on
the road.

Speaker 3 (18:34):
I think you just got to take the points with
the Packers just in.

Speaker 4 (18:37):
Case Love shows up.

Speaker 1 (18:38):
Or do you take the Colts in a blowout because
this is all gamesmanship. I mean, just stay away again.

Speaker 3 (18:44):
Just remember the Colts receivers were winning deep indoors.

Speaker 4 (18:47):
In week one.

Speaker 3 (18:48):
Now you go outdoors in Green Bay, jyy Ally Xander's
not bad.

Speaker 4 (18:54):
That's gotta be. Packers are passed for me. I Colts
his favorites on the road.

Speaker 3 (18:57):
Come on next up, Dallas Cowboys. Colin gotta talk about
him every day. They already paid two of their top
three stars in Ceedee Lamb and Dak Prescott. They got
to combine three hundred and seventy six million dollars. Now
their attention turns to Michaeh Parsons, who addressed his future
in Dallas on his podcast.

Speaker 9 (19:16):
And just worried about me.

Speaker 1 (19:17):
Man.

Speaker 9 (19:18):
I know I'm going to be a cowboy. You know,
there's nothing like Cowboy Nation. I think the love is
very mutual. But as for me, man, I'm just focused
on winning games. I want to win those big games.
I want to win those playoff games, get to the
super Bowl. For me, the contract is not really what
I'm worried about. It's just me being the best player
I can be for my guys, my teammates. And you know,

(19:38):
if a contract something like that happens furthermore up, then
that happens. But right now we're gonna fus focus on
just trying to be legendary.

Speaker 1 (19:45):
All right, A lot of money talk in Dallas. The
hype train is rolling in Dallas.

Speaker 3 (19:52):
J Mack, Well, if your persons basically you saw how
Jerry just dragged this stuff out with Lamb and Dak,
you don't even have to worry about it. He's gonna
sign you, whether it's five minutes before the week one
game next year, who cares listen?

Speaker 1 (20:03):
As long as you draft well, teams in this league
can pay three stars big money, Dak, Seedy and Micah,
you can do Now, can you pay DeMarcus Lawrence another
guy on the edge when you're paying Micah that's the question.

Speaker 3 (20:15):
Oh wait, No, I don't think that's the question. You
can pay three guys big money. Can you win a
Super Bowl?

Speaker 1 (20:21):
Yeah? I mean San Francisco's paying six guys big money.
So I mean you can pay. You can pay three
guys a lot of money. But you do have to
hit on draft picks. You do have to find guys
in the third, fourth, fifth round. I mean, look again,
Brock Purty seventh round, Juwan Jennings seventh round. This running
back hit from Georgia Tech undrafted. You can pay. I mean,

(20:45):
we've we've seen Kansas City's moved offs up. But they
have Chris Jones, they have Travis Kelcey, they have Patrick Mahomes.

Speaker 4 (20:52):
Patrick Mahomes, Andy Rian, Joe Jack and McCarthy.

Speaker 1 (20:55):
Come on, No, I'm just saying, is it's not that
you can't pay three, but you got to get your
draft right and you gotta find What you have to
do is you got to do like the Niners. You
got to find a lot of six and seventh round
guys who not just make the roster, they're productive.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
Is the Rams a better comp when they went top
heavy to win the Super Bowl with Stafford cup Donald
and I think Jalen Ramsey was and.

Speaker 1 (21:15):
Then they moved off them for a year rebuild, and
then last year was supposed to be another rebuild, but
they it wasn't because they hit on multiple guys in
the fourth of Puku Naku is a fifth rounder. You
hit on several of those guys and get him free
for four years. Then you can pay your guys at
the top.

Speaker 4 (21:30):
They're they're gonna be interesting.

Speaker 1 (21:32):
Have to pay Micah, Ceedee, Lamb and Dak are done.
You have to pay Mike.

Speaker 4 (21:36):
Well you at this point, yeah, yeah, you might as well.

Speaker 1 (21:38):
Well, you're gak. He's a first round guy. So you
did your job. Reward yourself.

Speaker 3 (21:43):
And I got to give the Cowboys credit. Did you
look at their box score against the Browns? They had
seventeen quarterback hits and there was like three guys there.
I've never heard of demarve On whoever.

Speaker 4 (21:51):
I don't know these guys. I don't think they really
showed up.

Speaker 2 (21:54):
Yeah.

Speaker 1 (21:54):
I don't think we worry about the Cowboys defense with Zimmer.
I think they'll be fine. Now will it be great?
I don't know, but it'll be fine that there. But
you and I both know by the end of the year,
nobody can stop anybody. That's why offensive coaches keep ending
up in the final four. Nobody stops anybody. At the
end of the year, you have to score.

Speaker 3 (22:11):
So the notes here say, Michaeh. Parsons had eleven quarterback
pressures in Week one. That's insane. Nic I think the
Carolina Panthers, who I bet on like an idiot, had
two combined in the entire game. Micah Parts is pretty
good football player. Final story, Colin, how's this one? So
Lamar Jackson and the Ravens had that Thursday night loss, right,
so you got some extra days off. So Bravens got

(22:34):
back at practice Monday, and guess it wasn't there. Lamar
Jackson just a no show at practice, and of course
Harball got asked about it.

Speaker 10 (22:41):
Here he is with a number of guys that weren't
out there, some personal, uh, some some you know, physical,
So you know, injury report comes out Wednesday afternoon, so
you'll be better advised on that day regarding all those guys.

Speaker 4 (22:57):
I don't recall Lamar getting hurt. I saw him get
his bell rung like six times against the Chiefs.

Speaker 1 (23:02):
Well, listen, it was a very emotional loss. Maybe he
just said I need a couple of days to myself.

Speaker 4 (23:06):
Yeah you did.

Speaker 3 (23:07):
You had a couple of days Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and
then Monday back at practice.

Speaker 4 (23:10):
Let's go.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
You're the leader of the team, you're the highest paid guy,
and you're gonna no show I need an extra a
day off.

Speaker 1 (23:16):
That's fair. Yeah, that's fair.

Speaker 4 (23:18):
Look good luck. Right, Raiders gett nine and a half
in Baltimore. Antonio Pearce bounced back.

Speaker 1 (23:25):
No, you know, the Raiders are a stay away team
for me.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
I think they're gonna be a frustrating bet because the
coach is such a coward.

Speaker 4 (23:34):
Wouldn't come. Yeah, he doesn't want to go for it
on fourth down.

Speaker 1 (23:37):
Well, that was just one instance.

Speaker 4 (23:39):
Six point game was like six minutes left.

Speaker 1 (23:41):
I didn't like the college.

Speaker 4 (23:42):
He didn't from Chargers territory. I know, I didn't like.
That was like VS. Fans are like, I mean, I
want to know Devontae Adams.

Speaker 1 (23:48):
That was anti analytics. You don't have to love analytics.
That was anti analytics. That's saying I'm going nineteen.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Eighty four football and then the Chargers ran it down
their throats for a second half.

Speaker 1 (24:02):
J Mack with the News, Well that's the news, and
thanks for stopping by the heard line now. So I
was reading a story this morning about Baker Mayfield, who
just had a great Sunday. He really did. Baker Mayfield
holds significant advantage over Deshaun Watson since leaving the Cleveland Browns.
So Deshaun Watson now has another charge against him. You know,

(24:25):
it's funny. I was thinking about this in retrospect, and
it's easy to say now, Baker was probably a good
fit for Cleveland. He's a little undersized, got chip on
his shoulder, He's an underdog for the dog Pound, and
he has a combative nature for a city that's tough Cleveland.

(24:48):
Deshaun Watson is just a creepy outsider that nobody wants
to be close to. And can you argue the Browns
got greedy that Baker was a great fit. Now, I'll
be the first to admit I said, I'm exhausted by Baker.
I think you have to move on. But I'm not
from Cleveland. Living in Cleveland would be exhausting for me,

(25:08):
so I don't really have an opinion on Baker and
Cleveland based on anything other than sitting two thousand miles away.
But it is interesting that the Brown sort of cast
Baker Mayfield aside as if to say, listen, we're above
Baker Mayfield, and the truth is Cleveland is Baker Mayfield. Really,

(25:30):
if you look at their ID, if you look at
sort of their identity, it's a lot of Baker. It's
a little undersized, a little overconfident, a lot of swagger,
an underdog, feisty. That's Cleveland, a little brash, more than
you'd like, you know, in those in those commercials he
did for Progressive. When Baker lived at the stadium, you know,

(25:53):
it was kind of fitting. It felt like Bacon. Nobody
wants Deshaun Watson in the stadium, that's for sure. Living
or otherwise it's just not working. He looks washed, he's creepy.
But it's why when I watched Baker this weekend in Tampa,
a place I worked for a couple of years, Tampa
now is perfect for him. You know, Tom Brady comes,

(26:15):
gets him a Super Bowl, leaves and you're like, all right,
who's our next, who's our next pirate? And it's Baker
the headband. He's definitely got that swash buckler attitude. But
it's really interesting. He found his warm weather Cleveland kind
of a second tier franchise. The difference is when the

(26:35):
Bucks are really good, They've won super Bowls. But Cleveland
wanted to believe in him, got greedy and bailed. I
hope Tampa realizes, like Perty in San Francisco, this is
a really good fit. Baker Mayfield in Tampa Bay is
a really good fit. And you watched him this weekend.
He was as good as any quarterback. He really was.

(26:59):
Here was Baker on the key to his current success.

Speaker 2 (27:03):
Just having fun.

Speaker 7 (27:04):
I mean, yes, it's our job at football is a
game and just finding a joy in it.

Speaker 1 (27:09):
I play my best one.

Speaker 11 (27:09):
I'm having fun and this is this group allows me
to do that, and everybody in the building.

Speaker 1 (27:14):
So I'm so thankful for them. And like I said,
keep building and keep going. No pressure, no massive expectations.
Tommy got him the trophy. Can you make us a
feisty Tampa Bay underdog? That is Baker's brand. This is
a perfect fit for Baker Mayfield. He probably was for Cleveland,

(27:36):
but they got a little greedy. He not only became
a playoff quarterback there, he won a playoff game over
his rival, the Steelers. They still said enough, We're going
to elevate above Baker. And the truth is Cleveland is Baker.
Easy for me to say now, but Cleveland is Baker.
They're not DeShawn. Nobody's happy with that.

Speaker 2 (27:56):

Speaker 3 (28:37):
Strong with Big Noon Saturday, Jalen Milroe and fourth ranked
Alabama take on Wisconsin in a huge sec Big Ten clash.
It all starts at ten am with big noon kickoff
live from Madison, Wisconsin. And now it's Alabama Wisconsin at
noon on Fox.

Speaker 1 (28:57):
Pretty lean college football weekend.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
What do you think to spread is on that game?
Which one Alabama Wisconsin?

Speaker 1 (29:02):
I would say Bama minus fifteen.

Speaker 3 (29:06):
Wow, that's good. I did not see this minus sixteen
in big number.

Speaker 1 (29:11):
Calen de Bor's on our show at the very end
of it today third hour.

Speaker 4 (29:13):
Yeah, he's obviously watching, So I won't say anything about
the game.

Speaker 1 (29:16):
Welly, Alabama's going to I think Wisconsin's going to struggle
to score, that's my take. But I think Alabama's got
to get its offense. Listen, you got a new even
though Alabama's got a lot of momentum players, it's a
new system, a new staff. That stuff's not easy.

Speaker 4 (29:28):
Yeah, and now they got to go on the road
to kind of a hostile environment.

Speaker 1 (29:31):
Camp Randall is I mean the state of Wisconsin, between
Lambeau and Camp Randall, that's about as good as football
stadiums in America.

Speaker 4 (29:39):
Don't forget they got the Dells in Wisconsin as well.
That mop it off in the fall.

Speaker 1 (29:46):
So when Tom Brady went to Tampa, there were uncomfortable
moments he and Bruce Arians and the offensive line. They
battled for a year or two and when Matt Stafford
came to Los Angeles, it tough. Remember those first he
was asking Matt Stafford to learn an entirely different offense.

(30:06):
It wasn't always comfortable. Aaron went to New York and
sought comfort. Bring Nat Hackett over and Alan Lazard. I
thought it was ironic that he I rolled both of
them last night at one point, ignoring Nat Hackett on
the sidelines, just would not look at him, ignored him.
That's Aaron. And then he also I rolled, you know,

(30:28):
the sigh, the strong, heavy sigh with Alan Lazard's drop early.
Now Aaron does lead the NFL all time in free
play touchdowns, which I didn't know until last night. It
doesn't surprise me. But Aaron often projects that he lives
on the edge. He is an independent, he does not comply.

(30:51):
The truth is he seeks comfort. Aaron seeks comfort. He
wants relationships to be on his terms. It's all about
making sure Aaron's comfortable in those relationships. There's no pushback.
And that's just not and and by the way, there
is nothing wrong with seeking comfort in life or as
a quarterback, but you also have to be willing to

(31:13):
be challenged and have uncomfort uncomfortable conversations. Hey, Aeron, you
brought a lousy O seed to the building. That's on you.
Nobody else wanted him. That's your call. Deal with it.
That was your call. And Alan Wizard again, he's a
number three receiver in this league. I see what he's
getting paid. That was your call too. You can't distance

(31:36):
yourself from that stuff. So Aaron projects that he's a
rebel on the edge, won't comply. But to me, he's
always seeking comfort and some of it's good. But I
mean John Elway and Peyton Manning in Denver, they went
back and forth on stuff. It's not a comfort league.
It's just not the way it works. It's it's difficult.

(31:59):
You can have wretches. But Tom Brady never went to
dinner with Belichick in twenty years. That's a fact. Never
went to dinner. It was an uncomfortable relationship. Often remember
when remember when Belichick finally gave him a game ball,
and how awkward and cringe it looked. There was tension
for twenty years in that relationship. Erinald Ghosha, he doesn't
want that stuff. Well, that's that's part of the sport.

(32:20):
Bro That's that's part of it. I will say, we
could all be negative on the Jets, but here's something
the NFL is. Don't kid yourself. They're very intentional with
their schedule. You know, fanzo Wis say, rig I'll be quiet,
what leagues do You've seen this with March madness and

(32:40):
you see it in the NFL. The NFL is incredibly
intentional with their schedule. They gave Jim Harbaugh two very
winnable games to start. Taylor Williams will not face the
Packers until week eleven. But you know, meanwhile, you've got
the Jets facing New England twice in the first eight weeks.

(33:01):
The NFL wants Aaron to win and they want this
story to be a big one for ratings. Last night,
I guarantee you got big, big ratings. And so if
you look at this schedule at Tennessee, New England, Denver,
Minnesota that is built for the Jets, defense, Will Levis,
Jacoby Brissett, a rookie, and Sam Darnold, then it then

(33:22):
it toughens up considerably, especially down the stretch. But I
don't I do not think that this is a coincidence.
I think the NFL likes to build stories and they're
not changing who wins and loses games. But it's an
intentional schedule. But even that said, you can't manufacture a

(33:43):
good team, and so the Jets do not have tight
end production. One legitimate receiver, a now forty year old
immobile quarterback, and a bad play caller. So I'm interested
if Bryce Hall twisted an ankle, They're they're They're down
to a rookie running back from Wisconsin. Like there's the
margins for the Jets are thin. Now, I think they're

(34:06):
gonna beat Tennessee. I think it's gonna be low scoring.
It's it's four points is the spread. I just don't
think Will Levis can play. I think when you get humiliated,
and the Jets defense was humiliated last night for three
and a half hours. That was embarrassing. No Christian McCaffrey
almost two hundred yards rushing, that was embarrassing. Ten big
plays by seventh rounders, undrafted play that was embarrassing. The

(34:31):
Jets defense will play with its hair on fire against
Tennessee down in Nashville. But but when I watched the
Jets last night, I came back to this. I watched
Kansas City in Baltimore's offenses on Thursday. Wow. I watched
Philadelphia Green Bay offenses on Friday. Wow. I watched the Lions,

(34:51):
and I watched the Rams. Talent everywhere. Hew, Buffalo scored
thirty four points after a really, really turbulent start Like
this Jets offense, you can't manufacture things. Aaron's not going
to get super elusive. The old line was pretty good
last night, but they are one injury away from being

(35:11):
like a low oxygen offense. Like forget high octane, low
oxygen Breyese Hall twists and ankle. It's Garrett Wilson and
forty year old Aaron. I'm not rooting for that. I'm
just saying I'm watching last night, and I'm like, you
start putting up the skill people. The top twelve skill
people in that game last night, nine or Niners devo.

(35:34):
I mean, Jennings was great, the backup running back was great,
bruck Perty was great, Trent was great, Kittling. It was
just one after another. It's so layered. I'm not trying
to be negative guy here. It just felt like to me,
if the defense isn't as good as we thought, and
we don't know if the coach is the coach in

(35:56):
the future. What are the Jets? Jmack? These are series
questions that need to be answered. If I said to you,
of all the elements of that team that was embarrassed,
what is the one thing you trust? What are they?
Where is the reservoir of talent? Because I couldn't figure
out why Sauce Gardner wasn't on the field last night.

Speaker 3 (36:14):
Yeah, he missed like a couple series. Mosley missed a
couple series.

Speaker 4 (36:18):
I don't know what was going on.

Speaker 3 (36:19):
I don't trust the defensive line right now, which is
weird because we talked all off season the offensive line
is the problem for the Jets, right Can they gel
together and protect Aaron Roy?

Speaker 4 (36:27):
They were actually fine last night.

Speaker 1 (36:28):
I thought they were. Probably the strength of the team
was that I thought Aaron got decent protection.

Speaker 3 (36:35):
I would say above decent, YEA B or B plus
prepare he wasn't under duress. He had time to throw,
he just wasn't making throws. Now it's his first game
in five hundred days. I would say that I feel
the most confident about the offensive line.

Speaker 4 (36:47):
I have large questions about the defense.

Speaker 1 (36:49):
Now.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
I don't know if that was just the Shanahan zone
running scheme, but they were doing a lot of inside
runs that the Jets didn't look ready for. Jets are
getting blown off the line of scrimmage. Trent Williams showed
up like a week ago. We're like, oh, has he
been eating Cheetos for the last month. He played like
every step, didn't give.

Speaker 4 (37:04):
Up a pressure. Like I it was just frustrating.

Speaker 1 (37:07):
Generally people think defense is ahead of offense, and I
think it usually in the NFL maybe works that way
unless you're unless you're considering McVeigh. Okay, look at the
Rams offense. The Rams were missing three offensive linemen, both tackles,
Pooka Nakua, and look at their offense in the second
half against Detroit was brilliant. Well, okay, look at Kansas

(37:29):
City's offense and you Reid first game, Xavier Worthies a rookie,
Rashi Rice, all the turbulence, didn't have good tackle play.
We were concerned. Their offense was great. Niners offense was great.
You start looking around the league at the offenses that hummed.

Speaker 3 (37:45):
I mean, really, if likely's toe is in the end zone,
hardball instantly signal we're going for two?

Speaker 11 (37:51):
Is there?

Speaker 3 (37:51):
Does the narrative for the Chiefs change if that's a
touchdown and they get the dubooket vision.

Speaker 4 (37:55):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (37:56):
But to get back to your Jet's point, Like, you know,
I thought you were maybe not giving Rock Purty enough
credit because Jets elite defense.

Speaker 4 (38:03):
You remember last year what they did.

Speaker 3 (38:04):
Mahomes struggled two picks, Jalen Hurts struggled, lost, c J.

Speaker 4 (38:07):
Stroud knocked out of the game.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Jets elite defense showed up last year against elite quarterbacks.

Speaker 4 (38:13):
Rock Purty was spectacular last night.

Speaker 3 (38:14):
Do you know how many gambling influencers were saying, one
of the best bets on the board is Rock Purdy
to throw an interception.

Speaker 4 (38:21):
He didn't sniff it. Here's what's flawless.

Speaker 1 (38:24):
Here's what's troubling.

Speaker 9 (38:25):
Though.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
He didn't have to throw into tiny windows. People were
wide open.

Speaker 4 (38:29):
That's another point.

Speaker 3 (38:30):
Yeah, this was why the hell of the Jets playing
zone and you got elite quarterbacks.

Speaker 1 (38:33):
Well, ever noticed that Cooper Cup runs a four to
six and he's always wide open that scheme. When I
watched the Niners last night, It's not like Jennings is
a four to three guy, they were all wide open.
That's scheme. That's coaching. If worthy gets open for the
Chiefs that speed and scheme. There are guys that separate
Tyreek Hill, Jalen Waddle. They just separate Cooper Cup's always open.

(38:56):
That's scheme. And I'm watching San Francisco last night and
I don't know. I it'd be one thing if perty
was delivering missiles into tiny windows. You're like, okay, it's
Josh Allen.

Speaker 4 (39:09):
Did you do that on the touchdown cats that he dropped?

Speaker 1 (39:12):
That was a great phenomenal. By the way, the remade
Jets offensive line according to PFF, okay, the remade Jets
offensive line was in Week one, twenty seventh than pass blocking.
I'm just that's what they do for a living. Okay,
that's your highlight. So that it begs the question, if

(39:34):
that's the highlight, what are they you got? And I
think it's easier to define for any company what you
are when you have good leadership.

Speaker 3 (39:43):
Well, that's interesting because that did that twenty seven doesn't
match the eye test, which is which happens. I mean,
it's not like Rogers was running for his life for
getting decked. I think he was sacked once, but.

Speaker 1 (39:52):
He was also getting rid of the ball pretty quickly.

Speaker 4 (39:54):
Well, that's by design.

Speaker 3 (39:55):
He doesn't want to be a statue in the pocket
and clobbered by bos End company. I don't know, it
was ship shucksop uh. If the offensive line was not good,
then where what was good for the Jets?

Speaker 4 (40:06):
And if it wasn't the offensive line.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
That's what I'm asking, That's that's what I'm asking.

Speaker 4 (40:12):
What Shanahan, thanks a lot, nice.

Speaker 1 (40:14):
I'm asking what the first hour of the show is.
What are they? I don't know what they're good at.
