Speaker 2 (00:21):
You're listening to Fox Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:25):
He's a senior NFL reporter Monday morning quarterback cover in
the NFL for almost twenty years. He's joining us live
on a busy day. Albert Breer. By the way, I said, listen, Pennsylvania,
you're gonna decide the country's democracy going forward. Stop panicking
and acting like an eight year old. It didn't get
(00:45):
your own way. If Saquon catches it, you're two and
oer over the Packers and the Falcons, who could both
win their division. That's my takeaway is that they've spent
more money on offense than defense. They're gonna lose some
games like this. This is they're the opposite of the Steelers.
They're great offensively, so limitations defense. That's my perception. Do
you sense panic in Philly?
Speaker 3 (01:05):
No, I don't think so. I mean, I think they're
sort of where they expected to be. No AJ Brown
last night. Obviously that's a factor, you know, But the
big thing, Colin is they're still really strong at the
lines of scrimmage. And I think if you if you
look at last night, that wasn't a problem for them.
Could the run defense have been a little bit better? Sure,
is there some transition moving from Fletcher Cox to Jordan
(01:27):
Davis and Jalen Carter. Absolutely same thing on offense with
Jason Kelce gone and Cam Jurgens in as the center.
But they've invested so many resources in the offensive and
defensive lines that's going to keep them in every game.
And they were right in this one till the very end.
And the good news is they should get better outside
of those areas. You know, again, like AJ Brown wasn't
(01:48):
out there last night. What does it look like with
Jahan Dottson having a month or two under his belt
as the number three receiver, And then on defense, like
how young that secondary is? Guys like Quinyin Mitchell. Maybe
it's not you know, Darius Slay covering Drake London. If
this is two or three months from now, maybe Mitchell's
out there covering him. Yeah, you know, their first round pick.
(02:08):
Maybe Cooper de Jean's playing a bigger role. So look
like they're still really good in the areas you need
to be good in, and I think they're gonna get
better over the course of this season everywhere else. They
beat a really good Packers team in Brazil. This was
a coin flip game. They'll be fine.
Speaker 1 (02:23):
Listen, they didn't have Jordan Addison, TJ Hawkinson at the end,
Justin Jefferson and Sam Donald ate San Francisco for lunch.
Do you think even Minnesota and we're seeing guys like
Gino and Baker and Sam kind of a reboot for
these veteran guys with a lot of snaps if they
get decent protection. You think Kevin O'Connell, you talk to
(02:46):
him in the camp, is a little surprised by how
good it's gone for Donald.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
You know, I actually talked to him on Sunday and
I don't think he really is. And I know that
sounds weird, but like they looked it. How Donald finished
his last season in Carolina playing for Ben McAdoo, and
then how he played last year on Kyle Shanahan now
was very limited the action he got.
Speaker 4 (03:10):
But go back and look.
Speaker 3 (03:11):
At that Christmas night game against the against the Ravens
for San Francisco, now was a blowout, Baltimore won by
a million, but Donald got in there in the fourth
quart And if you go and you really watch Donald play,
he looks like a different player. He does, and he's
an excellent fit for what Kevin O'Connell wants to do.
He's got a big arm, put the ball wherever he wants,
and he's athletic. He's got all the traits that he
(03:33):
had when he was a third overall pick. In fact
that I would argue if you go back and you
look at his history, go back and look at what
happened with the Jets.
Speaker 4 (03:39):
He played for.
Speaker 3 (03:40):
Adam Gase and Adam Gasee was trying to put it
in an offense that worked for Peyton Manning. Donald came
in the league as somebody who was very raw, athletic,
like almost the antithesis of what we think of when
we think of se quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (03:52):
That's what he was.
Speaker 3 (03:54):
He needed a lot, he needed time, and he needed
a simpler offense. And you know, I think what's happened
over the last couple of years as he's gotten into
offenses that are simpler, that get him playing faster, that
takes some of the mental loade off of him and
allow him to go out there and be an athlete.
And I think we really saw that on Sunday. This
is a really good fit for him in Minnesota. Maybe
(04:14):
it's not a long term fit because JJ McCarthy's there,
but I think he's going to play really well the
rest of the year. I know Kevin thinks he's going
to play well the rest of the year, and he's
going to set himself up if he does to play
somewhere in twenty twenty five, whether it's in Minnesota or elsewhere.
Speaker 1 (04:29):
So listen, I said, that's one thing that there's red
flags that surface with Caleb Williams. It's all the red
flags coaching, competency, Keithan Allen's health, regression of old line,
lack of accuracy, not staying within structure. And I've said this,
you can go back to Lamar and Mahomes and Josh Allen.
It was strong coaching and coordinating that took these improvisational
(04:53):
talents put him get back in the fairway. Let's clean
your game up with Josh Allen, he's been Josh Allen
with DA Bowl, and Brady's a different quarterback, right, So
strong coaching, good and coordinator they can take these wildly
gifted quarterbacks who can get a little ad libby a
little offscript, pull them back in the fairway. My question is,
(05:13):
in Caleb, is Chicago's infrastructure set up? Do they have
the ability to get an improvisational start on the fairway?
Speaker 3 (05:24):
You know, it's interesting you bring that up, Colin, because
and you bring up Josh Allen specifically, because I remember
talking to Brian Dave All about this when he first
got Alan, and he had him watch a lot of
tape of Tom Brady. Now Brady, of course was together
with Dave Ball in New England two separate times, and
Dave Ball's offense is New England's offense.
Speaker 4 (05:42):
So what he wanted Josh to look at.
Speaker 3 (05:45):
Was how many easy throws Brady made, how many how
many layups he took. And he was trying to impress
on Josh Allen, so much of what Tom Brady is
is doing the easy stuff. It's taking the easy things,
it's taking the easy money. And he eventually got through
to him, and that's really what got Josh to buy
into what they were trying to do. I think you're
starting to see that with Caleb Williams. And there are
(06:06):
two pieces to this, right, Like there's the first piece,
which is the improvisational stuff, which Caleb's going to go
through a process now and has been going through a
process the last couple of weeks of figuring out what
he can and cannot get away with. Then there's the
other piece, which is playing within structure and learning to
do the easy stuff. And that's what Shane Waldron in
the offensive staff in Chicago had been trying to do.
(06:28):
And I actually think if you watched that broadcast, right,
you watch back what Chris collins were said.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
I think we all thought Chris.
Speaker 3 (06:35):
Maybe went a little overboard when you know, I think
Caleb completed a little slat in the second quarter. Yeah,
and Chris Collinsworth was acting like he was like reinventing
the wheel, Like, oh my god, we.
Speaker 4 (06:44):
Didn't see this last week.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
Well, Chris was in the production meeting with all the coaches, Right,
that's what they're trying.
Speaker 4 (06:50):
To get him to do.
Speaker 3 (06:51):
They're trying to get him to do the easy stuff.
And after what Caleb went through last year with the
offensive line being what it was at sc and everything else.
Speaker 4 (07:00):
Like he kind of got off track with that stuff.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
So they're trying to get him back on those rails,
like you said, and you know again, it's about taking
the easy stuff. And we saw little glimpses of it
against Houston. We're gonna need to see a whole lot
more of it. The good news is the Bears are
good enough on defense and special teams to keep him
in games while he's figuring it out.
Speaker 1 (07:19):
So I have to be very cautious with my Jets'
opinions because old j Matt gets hyper sensitive. But but
my takeaway through two games is that Aaron's mobility is
closer to Kirk Cousins than Kyler Lamar, Josh Mahomes. Yeah,
(07:40):
he didn't move.
Speaker 5 (07:40):
That's fair.
Speaker 1 (07:41):
Okay, that's number one. Number two is ntt. Hackett is
not a top ten coordinator. They have very little motion.
I was told years ago that Aaron doesn't like a
lot of motion. He's not a fan of it. He
wants to see the defense. That's fine, But the best
offensive coaches in this league Saints. Now, with Kubiek there moving,
it's it is deception and slight of hand. Everybody thinks
(08:04):
this is a defense first and that Aaron's a savior,
but he's now a forty year old that doesn't move
in the pocket an okay offensive line and not a
highly deceptive offense. Have we kind of overhyped this whole
Aaron's the savior thing. I think this offense is a
bresee Hall sprained ankle from remedial.
Speaker 3 (08:27):
Well, let me explain to you, like why he doesn't
want motion first of all, Okay, like this is this
goes back and look like Matt Lafleur is from the
Kyle Shanahan, Mike Shanahan, Sean McVay school of offense. They
love motion, they love movement, and Lafleur basically cut it
out of the offense because Aaron didn't want that. The
reason why Aaron doesn't want it the same reason Peyton
(08:48):
Manning didn't want it, which is they want to see
the field and they want to move guys around on
their own so they can figure out what the coverage
is and make their decisions accordingly. So that's an Aaron
Rodgers thing that some veteran quarterbacks like it that way.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
That's why Aaron wants it that way. So you know,
like they have.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
To do things to create you know, open receivers, to
create a running game without the motion, and that's a
process too, and they're going through that right now.
Speaker 4 (09:15):
I think if there's one encouraging.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
Sign from the game against the Titans on Sunday, it's
the big run that Brailn Allen broke at the end
of twenty yard run at the very end of the
game that wound up being the game winner.
Speaker 4 (09:27):
Was Brailen Allen's second touchdown.
Speaker 3 (09:28):
Right He's a big, burly back out of Wisconsin twenty
years old. That was the result of them chipping away
and chipping away and chipping away with the run game.
And I think over time, what we're going to see
is that they're going to lean a lot on the
run game. They're going to lean a lot on their defense.
They are trying to set this up so Aaron doesn't
(09:49):
have to be the savior. They want set up like
Tampa had it with Tom where they can win lots
of different ways. In the first two weeks have been
about trying to build that sort of team. One game
really didn't get untracked against San Francisco, much better against Tennessee.
And the hope is now you're going to go into
the New England game on Thursday, and you're going to
be able to see something that's a lot more versatile
(10:10):
and a team that can win a lot of different ways.
So you know, I always hesitate to call the first
month of the season an extended preseason. That's sort of
the way the NFL sets up now. And the Jets
are still building the offense for Aaron Rodgers, and I
think such a big part of the offense is what
they're doing with that run game, what they're doing defensively
as well.
Speaker 4 (10:31):
And I think the very end of.
Speaker 3 (10:32):
That Titans game, when Braillen Allen breaks that run off
at the very end and what Breis Hall was able
to do earlier in the game is a sign of
where they're going offensively.
Speaker 4 (10:41):
And maybe we'll see a.
Speaker 3 (10:43):
Bigger view of what the vision's going to be for
the offense on Thursday against the Patriots.
Speaker 1 (10:49):
I don't want to spend too much time in the
Carolina Panthers, but Bryce Young, is there a possibility they're
just done, They're moving off, they're moving in at the
trade deadline. I mean, I'm sorry, but two weeks in
tells you this offensive coach sees nothing. I mean, Andy
has been out of his prime for seven years? Is
it over for Bryce Young?
Speaker 4 (11:10):
Can I see?
Speaker 3 (11:11):
I'll tell you what opponents are seeing, because I think
that that's really that can be really informative as far
as where the Panthers are with him right now. The pants,
the opponents of the Panthers right now are seeing a
guy who is very reluctant to push the ball downfield,
who isn't seeing the middle of the field, which could
be a symptom of the fact that he's five foot ten.
(11:31):
And worst of all.
Speaker 4 (11:33):
A guy's whose eyes are dropping, who's looking at the rush,
And that.
Speaker 3 (11:36):
Means he's already at the point in his second year
where he's taken enough hits where.
Speaker 4 (11:41):
He doesn't want to take any more. And I think that's.
Speaker 3 (11:43):
Part of why Dave Canalis is in this position where
he had to sit him down, because remember, Dave Canalys
is in year one of his program there and he's
still earning the trust of the players, and a big
part of that's going to.
Speaker 4 (11:55):
Be what are you doing to help the team win?
What are you helping to do me individually? What are
you helped me do in the long run? That's going
to help me get paid.
Speaker 3 (12:03):
And if there's a player in there that's holding everybody back,
that's holding you know, the group hostage, well then it's
on the coach to get that player out of there.
And I think players have some understanding of Okay, well
it's a young quarterback, he's coming along. But if other
players aren't seeing the progress at least incrementally being made, well,
then that can create.
Speaker 4 (12:24):
A problem for a coach with the rest of the
locker room.
Speaker 3 (12:27):
And I've got a sneaking suspicion that's where Dave Canalis
is right now, Bryce young that he needs to get
him back to a point where he can sell the
guy to the locker room. And you know, if you
want to talk about a potential trade happening, I just
I mean Colin right now, basically the investment that they've
made in him, I don't know where some team is
(12:47):
going to come along and offer them something that's going
to make it worse worth it for them to.
Speaker 4 (12:51):
Move off of him.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Right Like, I don't think they can give up on
them this early, but I do think like the way
it's gone the first two weeks has made it so
it's difficult for canal us to sell the quarterback back
to the locker room. And if you're a first year
coach two games in and you can't sell your quarterback
to the veteran players in your locker room who aren't
concerned about your three year plan, who are more concerned
(13:13):
about where they are individually, well then you know.
Speaker 4 (13:17):
You gotta do what you gotta do. I think that's
where Canalis is right now.
Speaker 1 (13:21):
Albert Byrd, nobody better. Monday morning quarterback is always buddy,
great seeing you all right?
Speaker 4 (13:25):
Thanks calling.
Speaker 1 (13:28):
Not throwing the ball down the field justin Field's not
throwing the ball down the field. Caleb Williams throwing the
ball down the field, just not accurately.
Speaker 4 (13:35):
And c J.
Speaker 1 (13:36):
Stroud throwing it anywhere he wants to. I mean the
great ones, you get spot it real quick. I used
to always say, you watch these shows. The Voice America's
Got Talent, American Idol takes you about eight seconds. You're like, yeah,
that's a star. Doesn't take very long. It's the same
with c J. Stroud second start, Wow Kyler Murray second start,
Burrow second start, Cam Newton's first start. I remember you
(13:56):
may a throw up the left side against Arizona. I'm like, yet,
that's going to work. I remember Matt Ryan playing at
home against Chicago left sideline made a throw. I was like, Yep,
that's gonna be a ten plus year starter. It does
not take long to see it. That's what's disturbing. Like
Bryce Young, now we got lost arts. I don't see anything.
Speaker 2 (14:13):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noone Easter not a em.
Speaker 1 (14:17):
Pacific Jmack with a news.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
On the news, This is the Herd Line news.
Speaker 5 (14:25):
You know who didn't have it early is Gino Smith,
who flamed out badly early in his career, but man,
he has rebounded strong led the Seahawks to a really
nice fourth quarter comeback uh and the overtime victory over
the Patriots Sunday. Gino said he's been preparing for these
moments since he was a kid, and he wants the
ball in his hands and crunch time.
Speaker 6 (14:45):
Mama said, put the ball in seven hands, man, That's
what I said. You know, I always, you know, dreamed
about these moments growing up. It's the dream come true
just to be here. So whenever I'm in this situation
and the game's on the line, I'm so happy and
just excited, you know, for those opportunities. I look foward
to him. Actually, so I know that there's gonna happen
more and more times throughout the season. Uh. And you know,
(15:05):
the best quarterbacks always find ways to win. And I
want to be you know, regarding in in that in
that like, so, I just want to continue to be
there for my team, you know, do what's right, make
the plays when they come.
Speaker 1 (15:16):
You know what what I love about Geno Smith and
I've been critical of Geno Smith all my Seahawk buddies
are like, we need a new quarterback. Here's a great
quality in life. That dude is grateful, and that's a
great quality. Geno Smith is completely grateful, not just about
the money, about the opportunity to get a second chance.
And this defensive coach. They're not gonna have to score
(15:37):
a lot. Seel's got some dudes. They have those last
three drafts for the Seahawks John Snyder. They got dudes.
They're a fast, fast team.
Speaker 7 (15:45):
Well, he got humbled early in his career.
Speaker 1 (15:46):
That's right, by the way, with the jet Baker's still
got a little chip, but he didn't have a chip
on bow shoulders. Baker now is grateful. I know Sam
Darnold's grateful. So it's like Gino is. It's im I
can't root against Geno. I do think to hoist a trophy.
They got to a super Bowl with Hasselback, they won
a super Bowl with Russell Wilson. So I mean, I
(16:09):
don't think in my opinion, I think those guys are
in their prime better. But I will say this, the
qualities that Gino provides glimpses of are great qualities. That
dude is nothing but smiles and so grateful for the
second check. You're seeing this all over the league, these guys.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
It's great.
Speaker 1 (16:30):
It kind of.
Speaker 7 (16:31):
Flew under the radar.
Speaker 5 (16:32):
But in Week one against Denver, it was a Kenneth
Walker game, right, Gino didn't have it.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
He's up again, he's hurt.
Speaker 7 (16:38):
Oh, he misses. So they put in Erbeny, the kids
from THECLA. He couldn't get anything going on the ground.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (16:43):
So they're like, Gino, we got to put the ball
in your hands. And I had Seattle in that game,
and I'm like, that's not good news.
Speaker 7 (16:48):
Gino thirty three of forty four.
Speaker 5 (16:50):
No, he's played his mind seventy five percent completions touchdown
like he was pretty flawless.
Speaker 7 (16:56):
To me, that's a huge sign.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
And they have three three receiver.
Speaker 7 (17:00):
He is dangerous.
Speaker 5 (17:02):
Like quietly here, Gino.
Speaker 1 (17:06):
Is a little Kirk Cousins if you give him ample protection,
more mobile, but no, no question. Yeah, but they're Kirk
Cousins and Gino throw a gorgeous ball accurately. They need
protection in the pocket. If you hurry, both just doesn't
usually end well. But there is something to be said.
(17:29):
Geno throws. Gino is a big you know, that's the
thing about c J. Stroud and Bryce Young. Who's the bigger,
stronger athlete. I know, we all love the small guys,
and let's be honest, the majority of the guys in
this league that can play are big dudes. And Gino
stand next to Gino's a big dude. He sits in
that pocket top of his feet. He's a big dude,
(17:52):
can see the field, and he throws strikes.
Speaker 7 (17:54):
Help me understand this.
Speaker 5 (17:55):
Seahawks at home against Skuyler Thompson and the Dolphins.
Speaker 7 (17:59):
This was it five and a half.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
I don't get the line.
Speaker 5 (18:01):
Somebody's betting Miami it's down to five. Five is a
dead zone, but still I guess the line was seven
and a half.
Speaker 1 (18:06):
That was my guess. You know, sometimes I look at
the lines, like last night, I'm looking at Lions. I
thought it would be a seven and a half line.
So that to me is one of my plays.
Speaker 7 (18:15):
I wonder if the Malik Willis comes in.
Speaker 5 (18:18):
Nobody thinks he can beat the Colts. And Malik Willis
was like competent to know what he was doing. I
know it was our heavy run game, but do people
see that and think, oh, we're overvaluing two of Yeah,
but Skyler he was a quarterback of a playoff game
for them.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Malik Willis is a much better athlete than Skyler Thompson.
You can do stuff. And also Malie Willis, nobody'd ever
seen him play. People have film on Skyler Thompson.
Speaker 5 (18:39):
Yeah, I want to take I mean I did bit
bet Seattle already, but I want to take him on
the contest. And I'm a little scared off by this
money on Miami. What am I missing, like Tyreek Hill
against I mean the Seattle second reason.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
No bitcoins big in Miami. Maybe it's just bitcoin guys
from Miami betting on the fin.
Speaker 7 (18:56):
Bit coin guys, Okay, let's move on. Oh I love this.
Speaker 5 (18:58):
Titans coach Brian Callahan caught on camera cursing at Will
Levis after that horrific turnover against the Jets on Sunday. Well,
the media asked Callahan about it, and he apparently has
no regrets about f bombing his quarterback.
Speaker 8 (19:13):
I don't regret my feelings about it, but but yeah,
I'm sure there's a there's some things I could probably
do better. I'm generally pretty composed. I think you guys
have seen that for the most part. You know that one,
just that one set me off, and I'm I'm hearing
like everybody else, I have blackout moments where I'll lose
my mind. I try not to. I try my best
(19:34):
to keep it together, but that one was that one
was hard for me to watch.
Speaker 5 (19:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (19:40):
Here here's uh interception against Chicago.
Speaker 1 (19:44):
I can't even watch that. Yeah, I had Tennessee in
the points I'm sick to my stomach.
Speaker 7 (19:48):
And then here's the one against the Jets.
Speaker 4 (19:49):
Look at that.
Speaker 7 (19:51):
So then.
Speaker 5 (19:53):
I love that play by Willis and I said, now listen,
we got our team here.
Speaker 7 (19:58):
Came up with some stats on will Levis. So in
his NFL debut.
Speaker 4 (20:01):
Do you remember it?
Speaker 1 (20:02):
He had four four touchdown he was great.
Speaker 7 (20:04):
Okay, do you know what he's done since then?
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Oh, I don't bad.
Speaker 5 (20:08):
Here we go two wins, eight losses, six touchdown, seven
picks in ten games.
Speaker 1 (20:13):
But here's my thing, it was all fools goal calling.
It's the giveaways. Yeah, dude, look.
Speaker 5 (20:18):
At at thirteen giveaways in ten games. I mean, I
don't think they can like bail on him at this
point in the season, but this is a proven season.
Speaker 7 (20:30):
Otherwise, Callahan's is gonna be like, we need a new quarterback.
I don't know where you go.
Speaker 5 (20:33):
Because Tennessee's not gonna be drafted ToIP five right They're
They're probably a six to seven win team. They're probably
drafted in around the ten to fifteen range.
Speaker 1 (20:41):
No oh no, No, Tennessee is a five win team.
In Indianapolis, the Jags and the Texans are absolutely better.
They could go one in five in division. These are
the games they're supposed to win.
Speaker 5 (20:55):
There's a strong argument Titan should be two zer right now,
if not for Levis.
Speaker 1 (20:58):
No, I think sometimes what does it tell you?
Speaker 5 (21:01):
Then?
Speaker 1 (21:02):
Here's what I take this coach is being personal. He's
not apologizing. I mean, usually when you have a young quarterback,
you're encouraging. Callahan is saying, we're better off punting. I
believe that is Callahan seeing this ego and saying, bro,
I'm popping this balloon. I am popping this. This is
(21:23):
not a gracious kid. By the way, the Giants do
everything they can to say nice stuff publicly about Daniel Jones,
because Daniel Jones a good kid. He's struggling, but he's
a good kid. When a coach comes out aggressively ripping
him and doesn't apologize, there is a reason for that.
And the reason is this is a cocky kid and
(21:44):
they're gonna just they're puncturing the balloon with this kid.
Speaker 5 (21:47):
So what if it's that Callahan has seen I mean,
his dad has coached forever.
Speaker 7 (21:52):
He's seen that.
Speaker 5 (21:52):
You get one opportunity to be a head coach, okay,
and if it fails, as your quarterback stinks and he's
giving the.
Speaker 7 (21:57):
Ball away, that might be it. You might just be
according the rest of your life.
Speaker 5 (22:00):
What if Callahan sees that and it's already like, guys,
I'm not I'm not failing.
Speaker 7 (22:04):
Here because of this.
Speaker 1 (22:05):
Because of us is the reason they're owing to yes
and everybody in the world gets that. So Callahan doesn't now. Now,
maybe his personality is edgy, perhaps, but I do not
remember a coach coming in. You know what this feels like,
Sean Payton, Russell Wilson. Sean told you this is bad
and called him out. Why because he wanted him out
(22:26):
the door. That's the last time a coach just said
I'm not even gonna apologize. And what happened? See you, Levis.
This is Levis's last year in Tennessee. Quin Youewers, Quinn,
you know what, I'll give you credit?
Speaker 7 (22:40):
Are you coming around on quin yours?
Speaker 1 (22:42):
I am all right.
Speaker 7 (22:42):
It took a couple of weeks.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
He was a little droolock, a little loose for me.
He's grown up now, Shade or Sanders, No, thank you,
So I'm I'm coming around on quin yours.
Speaker 7 (22:53):
My final story is Dave Canalis.
Speaker 5 (22:56):
After Sunday's game, he said that Bryce Young would be
his quarterback going forward. That last less than twenty four
hours when he announced that Bryce Down's getting benched in
favor of Andy Dalton. Fox Sports NFL insider Jordan Schultz
said that Young was very shocked at the benching and
the decision came out of nowhere. Bryce Young, I don't
(23:17):
know how he looked at his stat line of eighteen
for twenty six for eighty four yards and thought that
I'm not in trouble. He was only pressure on two
of twenty eight dropbacks. Chargers weren't even pressuring him, and
he was still a disaster. Listen, you don't want to
pile on the young kid. He's probably going through it
right now.
Speaker 7 (23:36):
I don't know Colin.
Speaker 1 (23:37):
Again there he has been bad and his organization feels
bad about the benching. They're saying positive stuff because Bryce
is a good kid. I do think there's this Bryce
played at a high school powerhouse and a college powerhouse.
He's managed. I mean, he's a good player, but he's
never had to carry anything. Not that he's been carried,
but he's never had to carry. This is the first time.
It's a big lift.
Speaker 7 (23:57):
Yeah, he says, three coaches in eighteen games, like whoever
the interim was?
Speaker 1 (24:01):
I mean, Caleb Williams went, Lincoln Riley. Lincoln Riley now
a defensive head coach. It's a whole different ballgame. Jmack
with a news, Well that's the news and thanks for
stopping by.
Speaker 2 (24:14):
The Herd line news man.
Speaker 1 (24:17):
This show flew by today just flew by. Wasn't a
great hair day, but you can. Some days things just
don't work out. I got I slept like a bear
last I think it looked solid last night.
Speaker 7 (24:27):
Did one of those Dude, you got a text about
the hair. What's going on?
Speaker 1 (24:30):
I'm not going to get into it.
Speaker 7 (24:31):
Oh boy, Oh all right.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
People came out here, very sensitive, management, a little on edge,
why you know whatever, a lot of reasons. Okay, don't
go anywhere. Live in La. It's the Herd.
Speaker 2 (24:47):
One more Heard. The Herd streams twenty four hours a day,
seven days a week within the iHeartRadio app. Search Herd

Speaker 9 (24:57):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every d
day five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing,
we never have enough time to get to everything we
want to get to.
Speaker 10 (25:05):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.
Speaker 2 (25:18):
Yeah, you blubber Lisa and me.
Speaker 9 (25:20):
Well, you know what, it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 10 (25:24):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also gonna talk
life and relationships. And if Rich and I are arguing
about something or we didn't have enough time, it will
continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 9 (25:38):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast
of all time.
Speaker 10 (25:48):
There you go, over Promising and remember you could see
on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with
Covino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or
wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Start Saturday Strong with Big yunon Saturday as Will Howard
and third ranked Ohio State take on Marshall. It all
starts at ten am with Big Nune kickoff live from Columbus.
Speaker 7 (26:11):
Then it's Ohio State Marshall only on figs.
Speaker 1 (26:16):
Nick Wright last week when I had the Eagles in
the hurt hierarchy pushback mocked me, eye rolled me. After
last night's loss, nick Wright remained steadfast in his belief
the Eagles aren't it.
Speaker 11 (26:31):
They are as poorly coached. And I know it's weird
because Sirian he's got a great record, but he is.
He makes his fourth down decisions like a blackjack player
that alternates hitting on a twelve against a two based
on feel of the deck, and then at the end
of games he makes incomprehensibly bad calls, which is one
(26:51):
of the reasons the Eagles in their last eight games
three times have led in the final two minutes and lost.
They have a bad defense, they're poorly coach, and their
quarterback is becoming increasingly hard to trust.
Speaker 1 (27:06):
Yeah, yeah, I can't. I can't strongly disagree with that.
I did not have them in the top ten. I
didn't have the Steelers in the top ten. I didn't
have the Packers in although a lot of that's because
I don't think it's fair. What are you now, well
with Malik Willis, the Packers are not a top ten team.
I had San Francisco at like eight because they don't
(27:27):
have Debo or McCaffrey. I'm asking, what are you now
like the Chargers totally healthy, Houston totally healthy. That's different.
So I think the three best teams, three or four
best teams I've seen actually are AFC teams, but five
on it's a lot of NFC teams. So the four
best teams I believe right now are Kansas City, Houston, Buffalo,
(27:48):
the Chargers. Those feel like the four best teams in
the league.
Speaker 5 (27:50):
So here's why I think he's overrating this. Eagles struggles
poorly coach. So A, their secondary is very young, right,
they brought in a new guy, and then they drafted
a couple of dudes, So it's very great. It's gonna
take some time. Obviously, a new defensive coordinator. No AJ
Brown last night, Okay, I think.
Speaker 7 (28:07):
That that hurts him.
Speaker 5 (28:09):
They had no vertical passing game. Colin, this is the
Super Bowl contender in what is it? Kind of a
surprisingly good NFC. You tell me who's definitely right now,
definitely better than the Philadelphia Eagles and the NFC.
Speaker 7 (28:24):
Well, the Niners are not. They're beat up every hell.
Speaker 1 (28:27):
Atlanta just beat them in Philadelphia.
Speaker 7 (28:29):
Come on, they trail you no.
Speaker 1 (28:31):
Way you live in this world of you know, if
this would have happened, well, that doesn't really count. I
would argue. I would argue Atlanta Kirk Cousins will be
better in a month than now, just like Aaron will.
When you are older and come off of surgery, you
tend to be weak. I mean, Kirk looked much better
in the second half than the first half last night.
Why he's coming off of surgery. He looks stiff in
(28:53):
the first game, a little stiff first half, great in
the second half. Like Aaron and quarterbacks that are older
off sur injuries, it's it's a process.
Speaker 5 (29:02):
Okay, Well, what about quarterback with a new center with
Kelsey gone and a new offensive coordinator works running that
come on a lot of newness.
Speaker 7 (29:10):
You really think the Falcons are that good?
Speaker 3 (29:12):
Huh?
Speaker 1 (29:12):
I picked them to win twelve games in their division.
Speaker 7 (29:15):
That is not happening, definitely.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
Did you watch that final drive? Team look like Mahomes
and his prime one drive boom boom boom.
Speaker 7 (29:23):
But you know who else had a good drive?
Speaker 5 (29:24):
Gardner Minshew had a couple of good drives in the
fourth quarter.
Speaker 7 (29:27):
Let's put him in the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 1 (29:28):
Coward come on, the difference is Kirk's a four time
Pro Bowl Ooh. Now, I have not gone overboard on this,
but you would acknowledge Sam Darnold looks good. No, undeniably
didn't have his number two receiver, his number one tight end.
(29:48):
And then Justin Jefferson got hurt and the game clinching
drive without him.
Speaker 7 (29:52):
They got Texans this weekend. Huh. I think, so that's
a tough draw, really good game.
Speaker 1 (29:57):
But it's at home. I kind of like Houston unfortunately.
I think, don't know.
Speaker 5 (30:03):
Well, it's just the Jefferson's out and Jordan Addison's out
and Hawkinson's out.
Speaker 1 (30:08):
Do we know if Jefferson's out for sure?
Speaker 7 (30:09):
I mean I don't think he returned to the game.
Speaker 4 (30:11):
Did he.
Speaker 1 (30:11):
Well, that's different, bro.
Speaker 7 (30:14):
They're down their top three pass catchers. We'll see.
Speaker 5 (30:16):
I think it's a little early in the week, but
I don't know how they keep up with this Houston offense.
Speaker 7 (30:20):
But then again, the Houston offense couldn't do.
Speaker 1 (30:22):
I was actually really underwhelmed by Houston, and then I
was like time out. This is a really young Houston team.
Everybody's young. The receivers are young. I mean Joe Mixon
is one of the veterans. It's a lot of young kids.
Stefan Diggs, they got chemistry stuff, they have youth. I
was underwhelmed by him, but I also think Chicago's defense
is pretty good.
Speaker 5 (30:42):
I felt like they ran on first down like ninety
percent of the time, like dives into the middle of
the line of scrimmage, jet sweeps to tank Dell. I
didn't love the sequencing at all times from SLOWK. But
I'm nitpicking because I had the Texans and they didn't.
Speaker 7 (30:54):
Come so.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
Very disappointing. And I'm done and Betton will let us.
I'll tell you that. Definitely see you tomorrow.
