Thanks for making us part of your day. Cam Jordan
of the Saints forty five minutes man Less night was
(00:47):
good foot low. That was just sensational, all the belly acres.
I can't believe you pig Cook Cousins and you drafted
my compania. Just tear a bull. I don't know, Michael Pennix,
You're not getting blasted like Caleb Williams, Jaden Daniels and Bonix.
He's sitting there like Mahomes and Lamar Jackson watching on
(01:09):
the bench getting better, and Kirk Cousins like a better
version of Alex Smith. You can get to the playoffs
with Kirk Cousins.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, if Nick Sirianni had a clue on how to
play call there at the end, Kirk Cousins would have
ended with like one hundred and eighty five yards passing
and you would be tearing him to shreds this morning
new for a boring performance in a spotlight primetime game.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
But that's not what happened.
Speaker 3 (01:31):
They got the.
Speaker 4 (01:31):
Lucky drive at the end after the Bargley drop.
Speaker 1 (01:34):
This is not a what it could have showed a league.
It's what did you do league?
Speaker 4 (01:37):
Your results? I'm a processed guy.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
Yeah, nonsense, Okay, Now listen, it's two weeks. Here's what
I find with a hurt hierarchy. I have to make bets.
Corporations make bets on leagues, conferences, personality shows. I'm making bets.
There are a lot of things who are that are new?
Some I buy, some I don't. Some I buy, some
(02:01):
I don't. You're gonna see what I believe what I'm seeing,
and what I don't believe what I'm seeing. Here's our
hurt hierarchy.
Speaker 5 (02:13):
Heard hierarchy.
Speaker 6 (02:14):
Tim, Now go the top ten NFL teams according to
College number ten.
Speaker 1 (02:21):
Yeah. Their next four opponents are one and seven. The
Bengals are fined at zero and two. If you can
go to arrowhead against maybe the best defense in the league,
arguably Andy Reid has extra time mahomes and shut down
Travis Kelcey and outplay the Chiefs double their yards in
the fourth, you're fine. Zach Taylor's teams don't do well
in September, Joe Burrow doesn't do well. I'll say it
(02:43):
again about the time pumpkins spice lattes are available at Starbucks.
That's when they're good. T Higgins coming back. I like
this team quarterback, pass rush weapons. I like them. I
don't care they're owing two. That team can beat anybody, anywhere,
any weather. I do think they missed Joe Mixon a
little bit. We'll see. I like the team Bengals ten
(03:05):
number nine. Listen, the Niners have the second highest graded
offense in the league. Now they're beat up offensively. That's
why I put him back at nine. Here's what I
really worry about. Brock Purty's been sacked eight times in
two games, and I don't look at the Vikings as
having one of the better pass rushes. So they're beat
up and they're not protecting brock Purty. But thank god,
(03:25):
you know, they still have a very good deck without
Deebo and Christian McCaffrey. Shanahan's remarkable, but they're not the
same team without McCaffrey and Deebo.
Speaker 5 (03:33):
They're not.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
That's why I put him nine number eight. I don't
know what to do with the Seahawks. Gino Smith, to
his credit, like Baker Mayfield playing really well. Dude's completing
seventy four percent of his throws. Well, he's played this
him and he's played that team. Here's all I know.
The last two drafts were excellent. In fact, I could
argue the last three drafts are excellent. And I'm seeing
this young defensive coach like a Demico Ryans do really
(03:54):
cool things. DK Metcalf, Jackson Smith and Jigba are tremendous,
and Tyler Locke. I love their weapons running back, tight end,
wide receiver, and I've been critical at Gino Smith. You
can win a lot of games in this league when
your quarterback is a big guy that's accurate at seventy
four percent. I put them at.
Speaker 5 (04:12):
Eight number seven.
Speaker 1 (04:14):
The Bucks. I buy into it again. Baker's playing his
butt off eight and two over his last ten starts.
He and Chris Godwin are totally connecting now. The Denver
game this week is sneaky and they're you know right now. Though,
to go to Detroit, I own they went in there
all banged up, an injury riddled, and they won. So
I buy Tampa. I buy Baker. He's playing with a
(04:36):
ton of confidence. I've always thought Todd Bowles a good
defensive coach in New York. He just I didn't think
he was quite ready for New York. If his first
job would have been in Tampa may have been different.
But in New York they're impatient. I like the coach
and I like the quarterback. I have them at seven,
number six. The Vikings, I don't know how long it's
gonna last. I mean they leave the NFL with eleven sacks.
I don't think that's gonna last over the course of
(04:57):
a season. But they are nine to ohero under this
head coach, Kevin O'Connell when they tie or win the
turnover battle. So I mean he's cleaned up Sam Donald significantly.
That's what he does. He is the quarterback whisper, the
tall Sean McVay. He is Sam Darnald. I mean even
the Fred Warner interception. Fred Warner is the best linebacker
in football. How many other linebackers get that ball? I mean,
(05:18):
Donald led a game winning, clinching drive without Jefferson Addison
and TJ. Hawkinson. I think we may have the best
young coach in football in Minnesota. I have the Vikings
at six, number five. I like the Saints. Let's not
go crazy. I need one more week of the Saints.
Derek Carr. I gotta give him credit though. The run game,
(05:41):
Alvin Kamara is a beast and they are leaning on
it heavy. They have the highest rushing percentage sixty four
percent in the NFL through the first two weeks in
Clint Kubiak, again from the Niner system. These quarterbacks get
the Niners system and they look different. Alvin Kamara has
been a beast. It's just a new team that's shocking everybody.
(06:02):
I want one more week, but I have him at five,
number four. You know what I like about the Bills.
First time in seven eight years, they have a star
running back. They can run the football now nine and
two since offensive coordinator Joe Brady arrived, so Josh Allen
has been very dependent on offensive coordinators to clean him up.
This is a new offense. The tight ends are excellent,
(06:25):
receivers don't have a star, but they have death and
James Cooks a baller. So he is one of two
quarterbacks in the league. If I'd have told you there's
two quarterbacks in the league without a turnover, one of
them's Josh Allen. Again, he's very coordinator dependent. Mahomes isn't.
I don't think Joe Burrow is Allen is and he
looks good.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
They're at four, number three.
Speaker 1 (06:47):
I buy the Chargers. They're tackles. Joe Alt and Rashaun
Slater were the two highest witted tackles in the entire league.
The only flaw with Kansas City is their strengths. JK.
Dobbins looks like Buckeye JK. Dobbins. Herbert for the record,
is eighteen to zero when his team allows less than
(07:09):
twenty points. He just needs to coach now. I don't
think their defense will remain this viable. But they have
two pass rushers, two elite tackles, a run game. That
bus receiver Quintin Johnston h oh, he can play. This
is a real team. I think this is a real
deep Kansas City good, not yet, but a real team
(07:30):
number two. I buy the Texans. I didn't even think
they played well against Chicago. They're young, and I could
see them getting too the AFC Championship and making a
silly play and losing to Kansas City.
Speaker 5 (07:39):
C J.
Speaker 1 (07:40):
Stroud is insane. That kid is the most effortlessly accurate
guy outside of maybe Burrow and Mahomes in the league.
Nico Collins his size and they're comparing him to Andre Johnson.
They got multiple weapons, a great left tackle, the quarterback,
the coach, the culture of their defense right now, a
lot of sacks again, Chargers Texans, I buy Saints. I
(08:01):
kind of buy Steelers at two and zero. Don't make
the hierarchy and number one number one. Listen, I do worry.
I don't think they're very good at tackle. They they
were not very good on third down against the Bengals.
They got to clean that up where they go get
somebody at the trade deadline. They are It's it is
hard to win a Super Bowl, even with Mahomes if
(08:22):
you don't love the offensive line, and I don't, but
I think they're coaching their structure, their defense. Chris Jones
now Travis Kelcey, I don't worry too much about because
he was invisible for spots last year. Then like Gronk
arrived when it mattered. I don't worry about that. I
also think they've even though Hollywood Brown's not gonna be
back for a while, I think their weapons feel significant upgrades.
(08:45):
To me, there's the top ten nick right now, Coholes
first things first, will join us. Okay, So I clearly
buy into the Chargers and Texans. I clearly still think
Cincinnati's good. I worry about the back end of the
defense for Philadelphia. That's just a problem. And I don't
buy the Steelers. So what do you make of this thing?
Speaker 7 (09:05):
All right?
Speaker 3 (09:06):
Make a lot of it.
Speaker 8 (09:07):
You know, for the third straight week, you get to
the Chiefs at number one, then say what you don't
like about them, but they're still number one. It's an
odd tick you have, but that's fine as long as
they're at number one. I've warned you about the steel
the Eagles last week, Colin did I told you that
was my one issue with your hierarchy, and I did
a little research this morning. I think the hole in
(09:30):
your hierarchy, oddly is the three spot. Yeah, preseason heard
hierarchy number three. The Rams now I agreed with you.
They've been devastated by injury, but they're already out of.
Speaker 3 (09:42):
The top ten.
Speaker 8 (09:43):
Last week heard Hierarchy number three Philadelphia. They are disaster.
As I told you, they would be poorly coached, bad defense,
hard to trust the quarterback.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
That's not a top ten team.
Speaker 8 (09:53):
They're out and now you have the Chargers, who I
do like. However, I think think you might be a
little punch drunk on them. I think you said, oh,
Quentin Johnston, he can play well. After twenty career NFL games,
he finally had a decent one. I'm not sure if
we're going to remove him from the bust category. And
(10:15):
I would ask this, how many teams in the league.
Speaker 6 (10:19):
Now?
Speaker 8 (10:19):
I understand the Raiders did just beat the Ravens, but
if you got the Raiders and then you got the
Panthers would be a two and oh like the Chargers.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
So I think the Chargers are good.
Speaker 8 (10:31):
I think they probably will split with the Chiefs this
year because they play the Chiefs tough. But I think
you're a little over your skis on it. What I
will say is this, the two and oh Chargers are
right now underdogs against the two and oh Steelers. So
I'm not trying to spoil I was gonna say, I'm
not trying to spoil the blaze in five, but I
(10:53):
feel like Chargers plus two is gonna be on there
early and in a lot of spots.
Speaker 3 (10:59):
So that that's my takeaways.
Speaker 1 (11:01):
Well, you know, you know, I'm a very a very
humble man, and I don't like to pat myself in
the back. I'm almost allergic to it.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
But yeah, you hate when I do it. You hate
when other people do it.
Speaker 8 (11:12):
You text me on the side, like, stop saying all
these nice things.
Speaker 3 (11:15):
Yes, it is all true, Okay.
Speaker 1 (11:17):
But when in Atlanta drafted Michael Pennix, it was man overboard.
All the Belichick fanboys. Bill would not have done that.
And I said, if the worst thing in the world
is drafting a quarterback and letting him sit for a
year behind a grown up, then then that yep, they're bad.
But I said, Kirk Cousins, if you look at his
(11:38):
last ten stars, Nick, he's completing sixty nine percent of
his throats, he's a one. And by the way, last night,
one don't two pass me. Last night onl like week one,
he did move less gingerly. I look at Kirk Cousins.
Last night. We could blame Philadelphia, but this whole idea
of Panix and Kirk Cousins. How about this, Atlanta may
had the best old line and run game in the league.
(11:59):
Kirk Cousin's last ten starts. He's a pro bowler. Maybe
Atlanta's just better than Philadelphia.
Speaker 8 (12:05):
Oh, I think Atlanta is better than Philadelphia.
Speaker 3 (12:08):
Listen.
Speaker 8 (12:09):
I So a'll talk Atlanta and then we've got to
get to Philly. Yes, I didn't hate the Pinicks pick.
I hated some of the decision tree of it. Like
if you were planning on drafting Pinnicks, then maybe spend
more money in free agency to upgrade the defense. Now,
they ended up getting Jude on late, but that was
kind of fortunate. Or maybe structure Kirk's contract differently so
(12:34):
this coming off season, if you wanted to move.
Speaker 3 (12:36):
Off him, you could have.
Speaker 8 (12:38):
But if you truly think he's a franchise quarterback and
you don't love the defensive options available at eight, I
understood it.
Speaker 3 (12:48):
With that said, it could have.
Speaker 8 (12:50):
Gotten very ugly for them very quickly had they lost
last night.
Speaker 3 (12:56):
Because the Chiefs.
Speaker 8 (12:57):
Are up next, they have a couple more tough games, right,
after that, I think it's Chiefs, Bucks Saints. I could
have that wrong, but I know they're staring at a
very tough start to their year.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
So had they started oh to four, oh.
Speaker 8 (13:10):
And five, then it feels like, Man, you brought in
Kirk Cousins and he's instantly on the hot seat. That
two minute drill last night, granted, maybe against the bottom
three defense in the league for the second straight year
in Philadelphia, Uh.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
He bought him some time.
Speaker 8 (13:25):
And I thought everyone overreacted to Kirk.
Speaker 3 (13:28):
In Week one.
Speaker 8 (13:30):
It was the longest he had gone without playing football
in his adult life. He was going to be a
little rusty, and he's going to get better. I also
think by the end of one of my big preseason
bets Colin was not an actual bet, but predictions was
that by the end of the year, the guy that
(13:50):
people think of as the best running back in football
is going to be be Jean Robinson.
Speaker 3 (13:55):
Yeah, and you saw some of that last night, yep.
Speaker 8 (13:58):
So yeah, I think people overreact to a terrible Week
one performance from Atlanta against an excellent defense in Pittsburgh
and TJ.
Speaker 4 (14:06):
Watt.
Speaker 1 (14:06):
But Philadelphia's issues I don't think are necessarily solvable. We
saw this. This defense is just not great. And also,
I mean, I always think of here's the good news.
Barkley is a plus, Jalen Hirsch look terrific. AJ Brown
comes back, They'll be fine. But I look at this
team and here's the predictable outcome. There's too many good
(14:27):
quarterbacks in the NFL. That defense won't stop me in January.
This team's not a super Bowl team.
Speaker 3 (14:33):
A super Bowl.
Speaker 8 (14:34):
Team, I don't know that they're I think even that
statement might be overrating them. I don't know that they're
a playoff team. They have lost seven of nine. Last
year across the board, they had a bottom five defense.
This year across the board, they have a bottom five defense.
I liked their draft picks, but rookies don't typically instantly
(14:58):
help you in the secondary. That's how they were going
to fix their secondary. They paid Devin White to come
in to fix their linebackers. He's a healthy scratch. I
had to listen to people be like, oh, man, you guys,
let the Eagles get Jahan Dotson.
Speaker 3 (15:12):
Oh, look at that top three receivers.
Speaker 8 (15:14):
Unfortunately for those folks, I've watched Johan Dotson's career and
there's a reason he was available for a third round
pick yesterday. Aj brown Out Dotson runs twenty five routes,
one catch, six yards.
Speaker 3 (15:27):
They are as poorly coached.
Speaker 8 (15:29):
And I know it's weird because Sirian he's got a
great record, but he is. He makes his fourth down
decisions like a blackjack player that alternate's hitting on a
twelve against a two based on feel of the deck.
And then at the end of games he makes incomprehensibly
bad calls, which is one of the reasons the Eagles
in their last eight games three times have led in
(15:52):
the final two minutes and lost. And then there's Jalen
who I did think played really well for the bulk
of yesterday because he went back to running the football
when necessary. But that doesn't excuse the fact that with
twenty seven seconds one timeout, they were twenty yards from
very makeable field goal range. They in that moment were fine,
(16:15):
they need one chunk play or two short plays and
you're sending out Elliott to kick the game winning field goal,
and he went hero mode again and threw an interception
down one when you were almost in field goal range
with a timeout in your pocket. They have a bad defense.
They're poorly coach, and their quarterback is becoming increasingly hard
(16:37):
to trust. I love Aj Brown too, but he's out injured.
I like Saquan a lot, but there is only so
much he's going.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
To be able to do.
Speaker 8 (16:45):
I think Philadelphia is who they've been screaming to us.
They have been for ten games of football, which is
not a very good team.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
I gotta say about Caleb Williams. It's one thing to
see a red flag. All of the red flags of surface,
all of them coaching competency, Keenan Allen's health, offensive line regression,
his inaccuracy playing off script, like all of the red
flags are out. I mean, their best drive against Houston,
you know, was aided. It started at midfield, aided by
(17:16):
a PI call. Is my takeaway as this because there
is some Mahomes Comps structure. I mean, the reason Farv
worked in Green Bay is they had great structure. GM
coach structure. Aaron Rodgers could be prickly and difficult structure.
Mahomes structure. Lamar by the way, can add libit. Kyler
(17:40):
Murray's great, but Arizona's structure hasn't been as good. When
I look at Caleb Williams. I'm like, he needs strong coaching,
like to make this get this thing back in the fairway.
I don't know if Chicago has it, because I think
not that Malmes wouldn't have been successful. But you remember
this very well years his first two years starting, he
got out of the fairway and into the weeds mechanically
and he had to pull him back in. And I
(18:02):
just wonder if if this staff and this structure is
capable of getting him back into the fairway.
Speaker 8 (18:10):
So listen, there is no denying it. He has had
a very rough first two games. I did think he
was much better in week two than week one, but
that is an incredibly low bar, and I have to
be fair myself and Danny Parkins have been screaming to
anyone who would listen. You know what a great situation
(18:30):
he was walking into. So it doesn't seem fair to
now be like, well, it's everyone else's fault.
Speaker 3 (18:36):
So I understand that.
Speaker 8 (18:37):
With that said, I think the number one thing the
Bears need to do is figure out what's going on
on the offensive line because he is getting instantly pressured.
It's not like ghost pressures, and then he scrambles and
makes a mistake against the Texans, Demiko's defensive front annihilated
the Bears offensive line. I still think he is not
(19:01):
only going to be fine, I think by the end
of the year, he's going to be outright very good.
I also think the Bears. While I clearly overestimated how
good the Bears offense would be at the beginning of
the year, I think I might have slightly underestimated how
good that defense can be.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
It was a miracle that they had the ball.
Speaker 8 (19:22):
In the exact position Atlanta found themselves in yesterday, down six,
chance to go win a game you have no business
winning on Sunday night when that offense had done nothing
all day. So I think they'll be fine, and I
still believe they're at the very minimum of playoff team
because I think Caleb's is going to get better. But
it is obviously, I mean, zero touchdowns and two hundred
(19:46):
and thirty yards passing over the first two games of
his career is not what any of us had scripted
for him.
Speaker 1 (19:52):
Well, I would be remiss if I didn't acknowledge that
Patrick Mahomes is celebrating his twenty ninth birthday today. Time
just flies by when you're holding trophies. What do you
make of it?
Speaker 9 (20:06):
That's right?
Speaker 3 (20:07):
Well, I mean it's clearly.
Speaker 8 (20:10):
I mean he has he's gonna hold every under thirty
record that he doesn't already hold. He has played ninety
eight career games, and he has tied this weekend, he
tied the record for most wins through one hundred games,
So now he has two shots at holding that record
by himself. What I would make of his performance from
this weekend, Colin, and it's what makes him such a
(20:32):
special player. I, honest to god, thought that might have
been the worst game I've ever seen him play. It
was the fewest yards he's ever thrown for in a game.
He didn't get injured in. The first interception was just
a what are you doing? Type of play? He Loui
an Arumo's defense really gives him fits in a way
(20:54):
nobody else's defense does. But despite all of that, despite
playing as as really as he played, fourth and six
gotta have it, perfect strike Rashi Rice put him in
field goal range, but the refs, who we all know
fix all the games for the Chiefs, took that play
away thanks to an illegal hands to the face. So
(21:14):
fourth and sixteen another perfect strike to Rashi Rice. But
the refs, who we all know fix all the games
for the Chiefs, decided, well, you know what, this guy did,
just get his head hit by the rookie safety. Probably
shouldn't even be in the game. I guess we're gonna
have to call it. So his two best throws of
the day, aside from the strike down the sideline, were
in fourth and six and fourth and sixteen. And that's
(21:38):
what makes the Chiefs so frustrating is I think the
Chiefs played a C minus game at best this weekend.
They had fewer than three hundred yards, they had three turnovers,
they couldn't convert a third down. It was the Bengals,
such a big game for Cincinnati, they sold tickets to
one hundred bucks a ticket to their home stadium for
(21:58):
a watch party, and the Chiefs still found a way
to win. They're now two to zero against Baltimore and
Cincinnati without even having played that well yet. So yeah,
I think Mahomes will be better. I think the Chiefs
will be better. But the thing is right now, they
don't need to be to be the best team in
the league by a very wide margin.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Listen, you said it, Chargers, you think will split with them.
I always think of the league at components. If I
said to you, there's an a coach and a quarterback,
the best combo tackles and two edge rushers, that's a
good team. I think the Chargers maybe more than Buffalo
in mine. We keep thinking about all these teams. The
Ravens are built to beat Kansas City. I honestly think
(22:38):
after the first two weeks the Chargers have the best
components to beat them. Doesn't mean they will, but if
you had to beat him, you'd like power running game
quarterback that doesn't throw picks pressure on Mahomes. I don't
love their tackles in Kansas City. I think the Chargers,
actually nick are the team that Tactually the components are like, yeah,
that would give Kansas City trouble.
Speaker 8 (23:00):
I just just because I picked the Chargers go to
the playoffs for the year, So you and I I
think are and I said I think they'll probably split
with the Chiefs in a similar mindset. I'm just not
quite as far along as you. I think they are
closer to the ninth or tenth best team in football
than the third or fourth. I don't Here's my biggest
(23:20):
question about the Chargers right now. I don't actually know
how great the defense is. I know, statistically the defense
has been unbelievable. How much of that is Gardner Minshew
and Bryce Young and how much of that is sustainable.
I do think that the Chargers are set up incredibly
well to be a true divisional rival for the Chiefs
(23:44):
starting next year. I don't think we'll see that this year.
I think the Chiefs are gonna win thirteen or fourteen games.
I think the Chargers are gonna win ten or eleven.
But moving forward, if you have Herbert, you have Harball,
you have both your tackles set for the next ten years.
Those are the bones of a true contender. So I
agree with you in spirit, but I think it's not
(24:05):
quite there.
Speaker 1 (24:06):
Yet, Nick Wright. First things first, humming along, what a show,
budget free?
Speaker 3 (24:11):
And once again, you didn't even bring up Donald. You
are the most humble man in America.
Speaker 8 (24:16):
I mean, you could just be doing another Donald victory lap,
you don't even bring it up.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
Dip my cap to you. Just talk to you next.

Cam Jordan of the Saints is showing us before the
end of the hour. First though, Jmack with the news.
Speaker 5 (24:58):
No, no, no news. This is the Herd line news.
Speaker 4 (25:04):
Start with some not great news for the Chargers.
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Justin Herbert got rolled up on at near the end
of the Panthers Chargers game and uh, it's not looking good.
Jim Harbaugh addressed his quarterback status heading into a big
Week three matchup with the undefeated Steelers.
Speaker 5 (25:20):
And the x Rays were negative.
Speaker 1 (25:22):
Sure they'll be.
Speaker 10 (25:24):
For their valuations as as the week goes on, harder
right on that. Uh, yeah, as I've ever reported, as
far as Justin and all the players will have a
lot more information on Wednesday when the injury report comes out.
Speaker 4 (25:44):
Yeah, I like the game playing.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
He wouldn't even tell which leg it was, doesn't want
to give the opponent any And.
Speaker 1 (25:49):
I've never been a fan of the NFL injury report.
Why why tell other teams who's vulnerable physically? Oh the
gamblers obviously we yet, but that's not long before orts
gambling was permitted and legal, that was out there. Don't
I don't think you should be doing things just for
the gamblers. And I like gambling. I'm for gambling, but
(26:09):
I don't like Mark Schleret told me he used to
look at a guy and be like, oh, you got
a bad knee, I know where to work? Match what?
That's how smart players they look at, you know, they
look at Oh, this guy's gonna struggle, he's got a hammy.
This guy, I mean, the smartest players in this league,
especially in the trenches. Now, your hands sore, your right
shoulder surgery?
Speaker 2 (26:30):
They know.
Speaker 1 (26:31):
I just been Alwa's mind take. I'm not a big
fan of injury reports, college or bro I don't know.
Speaker 2 (26:35):
But then somebody goes out, has a terrible game and go,
oh that guy stinks.
Speaker 4 (26:38):
Well no, actually at a major.
Speaker 1 (26:39):
In oh yeah, because fans can textualize a lot of wonderful.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
Host TV radio podcast like they're going to be hammering
Herbert if he doesn't show up, this is not a
great matchup to go in limpic.
Speaker 1 (26:49):
Well the bad leg. Well, you're not winning the game
without Justin Hurber TJ.
Speaker 2 (26:52):
Watson tremendous. Steelers are favorite. Now I knew the Charger
stave East. Remember they didn't travel back after the Charlotte
game or Caroline game.
Speaker 4 (27:01):
This is an interesting game. I have a bad feeling.
Speaker 2 (27:03):
Stillers are gonna win this and go to three and zero,
and people are going to think the Steelers are good.
Speaker 1 (27:07):
Still, if it's nine to six, I'm not putting them
in the hurd hierarchy. It's not sustainable.
Speaker 2 (27:11):
They don't deserve but all Steelers unders until something changes
with that offense, it's bad.
Speaker 4 (27:16):
Let's go to a boat Knicks. Yeah, one of your
favorite guys in the league. Listen, Colin. He's on the
struggle bus. Okay, every quarterback.
Speaker 2 (27:24):
That's a rookie has struggled, but he seems like more
so than others. He rushed for a TV against Seattle.
No TV passes four picks, but yet Sean Payton, he's
encouraged by the early season, showing from bonus.
Speaker 7 (27:37):
He's been through. You know the firestorm. If you will
and so you're better prepared, you're better served you know
when it comes around again. And by no means we're
not like in that position right now. Obviously we would
have liked to start is better. But my point is,
you know, he's someone that I think by nature is
confidence in his preparation, in his ability, and you know
(27:58):
it is not going to be discouraged easily. I felt
like we saw steps and again I think someone asked
me after the game, relative to his confidence. I feel
a confident player. So I think you're from that standpoint,
I'm encouraged.
Speaker 1 (28:13):
Take a deep breath. They were picked to win five games.
They're gonna get up there about seven.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
Maybe no really, maybe that being said this weekend, so
he's faced two tough defense Seattle on the road and
Pittsburgh with TJ.
Speaker 1 (28:29):
Watt.
Speaker 4 (28:29):
Yeah, lightens up a little bit this week with with Tampa.
Speaker 2 (28:32):
Looks like Vitaveya will not go big factor in the
middle of the line.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
We don't know about winfield status in the back end.
Speaker 1 (28:38):
No, They've they've got three injuries to that defense, and
Detroit tends to be a physical team, so they'll bang
bang you up in the box a little bit that's
the best offensive line in football. This is a I
like the Broncos plus.
Speaker 4 (28:49):
The port I think that's the play.
Speaker 2 (28:51):
Now listen, can you watch Bonick go if you just
watch all of his throws from the first two weeks
column and it isn't pretty. He's not seeing the field.
Speaker 4 (28:59):
Well, I would say Peyton needs to simplify things, but
it's already basic and well.
Speaker 1 (29:04):
It is the Steelers. And that by the way, it
was thirteen to six late and they should have been
kids have drive.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Was on a gimmick like Nicks lined up at wide
receiver and they like had to toss it out to
him and he chucked it down field and Josh Reynolds
made to play. But listen, I think Peyton needs this
team to show up pretty well. I don't want to
say hot seed or anything.
Speaker 1 (29:24):
He's smelling the hots.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
I like Peyton. You know, they don't look good. They comin,
come on, they do not.
Speaker 1 (29:31):
Well, what team, what team with a rookie quarterback looks good?
Speaker 4 (29:36):
Well, Washington beat the Giants?
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Well again, no touchdowns, field goals, yes, also all field goals.
So I mean, let's let's none of these quarterbacks have
a touchdown.
Speaker 4 (29:47):
Pass Caleb doesn't even happen.
Speaker 1 (29:50):
No, oh, he's had one drive chosen on the Texans.
Against the Texans, they had one decent drive. It started
at midfield due to a crappy punt and then they
got a PI call. So it's like they haven't had
a really good drives big as he placed twenty seven
yards with all those playmakers le.
Speaker 4 (30:07):
Mean Keenan Allen back for Chicago, by the way.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
The final story is the Cincinnati Bungles, one of nine
teams to start zero to two. They did look good
against the Chiefs before the rest got involved.
Speaker 1 (30:18):
Just kidding.
Speaker 2 (30:19):
They've been without t Higgins in both games due to
a hamstring injury. Zach Taylor says everything's moving in the
right direction. Maybe T Higgins is able to go Monday
Night against Washington doubleheader in the NFL on Monday Night
Commanders at Bengals.
Speaker 4 (30:33):
This line is soaring. Bengals are now up to eight.
Speaker 2 (30:36):
I don't know if somebody knows Higgins is back, but
their run game is not very interesting since.
Speaker 1 (30:42):
They missed They missed Joe Mix and there's no question
that's and that's the difference is Pachecko the Niners run game.
The good teams in this league now, like the Niners
got low.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Both teams from the Super Bowl las year have lost
their running backs.
Speaker 1 (30:57):
For a long year a time.
Speaker 5 (30:58):
It hurts.
Speaker 1 (30:58):
Isaiah Pachecko's much more valuable at Kansas City than people real.
Speaker 4 (31:02):
Oh his backup.
Speaker 2 (31:03):
I don't want to say he's a bum, but he
did fumble one of his first touches that he.
Speaker 1 (31:06):
Had and we don't have to call people bums.
Speaker 4 (31:08):
I did pick him up in fantasy, so we'll see
how that forks out.
Speaker 1 (31:11):
J Mack with a news.
Speaker 5 (31:13):
Well that's the news and thanks for stopping by the
Herd Line News.
Speaker 6 (31:18):
Be sure to catch live editions of The Herd weekdays
and noon eastern nine am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio
FS one and the iHeartRadio app.
Speaker 9 (31:27):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day

never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get to.
Speaker 11 (31:36):
And that's why we have a brand new podcast called
over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun in
our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for. Yeah, you blubber list lame and me.
Speaker 9 (31:50):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.
Speaker 11 (31:54):
Well, it's a Cavino and Rich after show and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also going to
talk life and relationships. And if Rich and I are
arguing about something or we didn't have enough time, it
will continue on our after show called over Promised.
Speaker 9 (32:08):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promised and also uncensored by
the way, so maybe we'll go at it even.
Speaker 5 (32:15):
A little harder.
Speaker 9 (32:15):
It's gonna be the best after show podcast of all time.
Speaker 11 (32:18):
There you go, over promising, and remember you could see
it on YouTube, but definitely join us. Listen to over
Promised with Cavino and Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple
Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.
Speaker 1 (32:29):
Cam Jordan eight time Pro Bowl are gonna be joining
us from the Red Hot Saints. Kind of an average
college football weekend usc off a bye. Lincoln Riley goes
to Michigan and they're on a backup quarterback already. By
the way, I said this and I mean it. I
said this a couple hours ago. If Chicago's issues continue
(32:51):
to be a problem offensively, you're gonna hear Lincoln Riley's
name in about four to five weeks when us he's unbeaten,
going to play Penn State. Keep your eye on it.
Cam is going to be a Hall of famer. He's
led the NFL in sacks since twenty twelve with over
one hundred and sixteen. The Saints defense is I'm an,
but it's the Saints offense that's crazy. All right, Cam,
(33:11):
your dad was a tight end. You know some offense?
Did you know in preseason? And did you know in
practice with Clint Kubiak? Were you saying, man, it is different,
this thing is different. Or are you a little surprised.
You look like a dominant high school team over a
JB squad in this league right now? Are you surprised
at all by it?
Speaker 12 (33:32):
Hey?
Speaker 13 (33:32):
Look, it's the NFL. Any given Sunday, teams can either
win or lose. I'm just happy I'm on the winning side.
What we do is we've got a game plan and
we execute at a high level.
Speaker 12 (33:43):
We have to continue that. If we want the same success.
Speaker 1 (33:46):
Yeah, you know, it's Jerry World. Was interesting. It's I
could hear Saints fans in that stadium. Now I wasn't there.
What was it like? Was it fifty to fifty Saints
Cowboy fans.
Speaker 12 (34:00):
By the end of the third quarter.
Speaker 13 (34:02):
Yeah, but no, when you walk into Jerry's world and
you know, you walk to the Star, you know that
there's a ninety one hundred thousand people there, and you
saw a black and gold section.
Speaker 12 (34:12):
It was twenty five thirty in my twenty twenty five
thousand Saints fans, but by the end of that third quarter,
it felt like it was seventy five thousand.
Speaker 13 (34:21):
It felt like a three hundred type moment where it
was that little impact versus a large impact, but that
little impact had way more energy, I mean, and you
felt that as the game went on. So my fourth quarter,
we know was who that chance started going in and
you heard the Saints fans really start rallying. There was
no combat from that.
Speaker 1 (34:39):
Yeah. So I gotta ask you about Dallas because you
just met their offensive line, and we know Detroit and
Atlanta and Philadelphia have very good offensive lines. That's all
the PFF grades. I don't know. I'm not gonna speculate
the Dallas offensive line. Is it good? Is it formidable?
Tell me, because everybody speculates you faced it. How is
(35:01):
that cowboy o line in front of that?
Speaker 13 (35:04):
You just brought it in pff as like a factual statement. Look,
they're always going to be analytics. There's always going to
be guys that think they know when it comes down
to the trenches and the trench warfare that happens. It's
all about how we can impose our will, how we
can try and dominate line scrimmage, how we can attack
deer offense. I think that they do have a good
offensive lineman. I think offensive line. I think that they
(35:26):
do have a very good quarterback in Dak Prescott. I
also believe that the Saints defense has been good for
a really long time. And the way that we practice,
the way we take training camp, and the way we've
had to face our own offense this entire training camp
put us in a position to succeed.
Speaker 1 (35:41):
So the Saints new offense has a lot of movement.
It feels like much more movement than last year. And
by the way, that's Miami, that's McVeigh, that's the kid
in Minnesota, Kevin O'Connell, I like what it looks like.
I don't know it. Clearly you've added speed to the offense,
a deep threat. But you tell me, as a defensive player,
(36:03):
when a team is shifting constantly and moving, is that
a disadvantage for a defensive player, because clearly it's confusing
who you're facing. You tell me a practice all the movement,
how do you view it as a defensive player?
Speaker 12 (36:19):
You know, it's it's a lot of smoke and mirrors.
Speaker 13 (36:21):
There's a lot of Hey, this is trying to, you know,
make the picture bigger than what it is. At the
end of the day, we faced it in San Francisco
last year. We faced the type office that brings in
those types of motions. But it definitely brings those nuances
and at the end of the day, it just helps
you focus on what's important beyond all these moves, beyond cadences,
beyond you know, excellent players like Al Kamara, Chris olave,
(36:44):
Rashi Shihi, Juwan Johnson, Foster Moreau, Taysom Hill. It's all right,
how do we win today? How do we win this down?
And sure motions can make you look at the big picture.
Oh steps Rashi's motion over to y receive, you know,
from one of R positions. In next it's a lobby
coming out the backfield to move over. It's ak coming
from you know, a wide receivor spot back into the backfield.
(37:06):
How does that affect you? It's it's all about eliminating
those risks. You know, in life, you try and eliminate
risks folks on what's important, and that's what you got
to do as a defensive player.
Speaker 12 (37:16):
And sometimes that's a little harder than others.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
So there's about seven eight now it feels like everybody's
got a good pass rusher, but there's you know, you,
Miles Garrett, TJ. Watt, the Hutchison Kid in Detroit. There
are elite pass rushers and you're one of them, and
you've been one of them now for over a decade.
Let me ask you. Is it brute strength?
Speaker 5 (37:36):
Is it?
Speaker 2 (37:37):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (37:37):
Training?
Speaker 7 (37:38):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (37:38):
Scheme?
Speaker 5 (37:39):
Is it?
Speaker 1 (37:40):
How have you maintained this level? If I? If I,
I mean because there's there's a lot of good ones.
You're in an elite class and you've been doing it
now for over a decade. What is the secret sauce
to be great at what you do for the extended
period that you've done it.
Speaker 13 (37:59):
Man, I don't know if there's such a thing as
secret sauce. You know, each each defensive end, each each
outside linebacker, each edge rusher, and every pass rusher has.
Speaker 12 (38:08):
Their own ways. You know.
Speaker 13 (38:10):
You talk about, you know how von Miller still has
an elite steps and how he's going crazy and you're fourteen,
especially this last game, you look at Aiden Hutchson that
and how he was able to take advantage.
Speaker 12 (38:21):
What they do in the off season couldn't tell you.
I know what I'm doing.
Speaker 13 (38:24):
I'm working, I'm working, I'm running, I'm making sure that
my mind is acting, my body is going, and I'm
pushing myself to the brink each and every offseason for
the pure ability to say, hey, when it comes down
the fourth quarter and I look over and I see
that fat person, you know, crossing his feet and he
looks exhausted, that's when you know you have that chance
to really take advantage. When I look over and see
(38:44):
an office of lineman not looking you in the eyes,
and he's you know, he's he's he's looking everywhere else.
But you you feel like Mike Tyson in his prime,
and he was like, I'm looking dead at his soul
and he's not giving anything in return.
Speaker 12 (38:54):
You know he's going to be defeated that day.
Speaker 13 (38:56):
It's just one of those things that you have to
train so hard for in the season to have the
opportunity to even to have an ability to win.
Speaker 12 (39:03):
You're not guaranteed to win with the swipe that you
know is gonna work.
Speaker 13 (39:05):
You're not guaranteed to win, you know, with the ability
of you being able to beat a guy one on
one because he may have guard hill or he may
have a running back ship. But you're working for that
opportunity just like you do. And in a game, you're
working for the opportunity, just like you do in a season.
You're working for the opportunity to have a chance to
win five NFL everybody's talented, yep, you have to be
able to help work them.
Speaker 1 (39:26):
Five takeaways, seven sacks through two games. Cam Jordan fourteen
years and eight Pro Bowls. They are the shot. They're
a little like the Houston Texans last year. You look
around and you're like, are they a top three to
four team in the NFL? They are through two weeks.
Cam has always Saints defensive ends. Great seeing you.
Speaker 13 (39:46):
Yeah, absolutely, Look we've been two and oh before, we
were two and oh last year.
Speaker 12 (39:49):
Well we got to do a cheap on hunting.
Speaker 1 (39:52):
Great seeing you.
Speaker 12 (39:52):
Man, absolutely appreciates you having me.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
On you bet. Alvin Kamara is such a great pro.
What are you smirk for? He is so good. Just
watch the Saints play. I said this about the Jets.
When you watch the Jets, there's no motion. They line up.
This is what it is when you watch the Saints
last year of this year, now May. It may be
smoking mirrors. Some of San Francisco can be smoking mirrors.
(40:18):
Some of Minnesota it can be smoking mirrors. But you
turn the sound down and watch a team. If they
just walk up to the line of scrimmage and occasionally
do a little motion, that's not what the Saints are anymore.
It looks sophisticated. It is a lot of different sets
they've added. I mean, Kamar has been good for a
long long time. But it looks different. Saints look different,
(40:40):
therefore they play different. Any numbers jump out at you
this week, by the way, what's what.
Speaker 2 (40:45):
Calvin Kamara numbers? I mean he yeah, Colony's coming off
two awful seasons. Two years ago, he had as many
fumbles as touchdowns. Last year was the worst season of
his career. He looks rejuvenated through two weeks, but that
doesn't mean this is going to continue. I hope Cam's
not so watching.
Speaker 4 (41:00):
I'm sorry, like I think this is a good fortune early.
Speaker 2 (41:04):
And there's not a lot of tape on Clint Kubiak,
who's now calling plays for the first time. I think
teams around the league gonna be like, oh, this is
what they're doing. We didn't anticipate any of this. Yeah,
and they'll adjust. In the Saints, they'll come back down
to earth.
Speaker 1 (41:14):
Look, yeah, there is September. Football can be whacky.
Speaker 2 (41:17):
I think this is certainly whacky. Now you asked for
a line. I gotta go to College Colin.
Speaker 4 (41:20):
They just handed me the sheet for big ten bets.
Speaker 2 (41:22):
Oh get Yeah, USC's favored at Michigan by five and
a half.
Speaker 1 (41:28):
I like USC to cover. I'm stunned down and the under.
It's the under and the USC coach.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Okay, wow, I'm not ready to fire yet. I gotta
do some more. I'm just surprised at USC's.
Speaker 1 (41:37):
So Lincoln Riley gets two weeks to prepare. That's a
great point against a first year coach and a backup quarterback.
Now the under I love. Those are two good defenses.
Michigan's D line.
Speaker 4 (41:50):
First road game though the LSU game was in Vegas, so.
Speaker 5 (41:54):
That was like that was a road game.
Speaker 1 (41:56):
I mean it was sixty forty sixty five thirty five
lay there.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
They often play in Vegas in the conference championship, you know,
So like, I think there's gonna be a tough game
for USC.
Speaker 4 (42:06):
We'll see, we'll see.
Speaker 1 (42:08):
My insiders say, take me under.
