hurts the Raiders and negotiations Now everybody knows Antonio Piers

is not fond of Davante Adams, which was known in
the building. Now it's known outside the building. So that's
not a good move by the Raiders. But according to
Diana Russini, the Jets and the Cowboys, your Jets and
Fox's Cowboys, Jerry Jones Cowboys are talking. So let's start
with the premise of this. The Raiders have leverage their

coach and their GM or brand new Mark Davis. There's
no urgency. I was told to win today. That helps
them Again, Antonio Pierce messing around on social media not smart,
stay out of that stuff. Lets everybody in the league new.
What the Raiders privately new is DeVante Adams and Antonio

Piers regardless of if they denied or not, they're not tight.
So let's start with the Jets impulsive owner. That's something
team needs a boost. Offensively. They scored nine points against
Denver at home. And don't overlook this. The Mets are
in the playoffs, the Yankees are in the playoffs. The

Knicks just made a huge trade. The Jets have always
been a low self esteem sports franchise. They love relevance.
Consider this Aaron's forty. The rest of this year and
next year, that's the window. Consider this, They're facing ex
Jet Sam Darnold in a standalone game. Everybody's watching. Consider this.

Wood He Johnson, the owner, former ambassador to the UK
appointed by Trump. All his friends.

Billionaires do not like to be embarrassed, and Minnesota has
been embarrassing a lot of teams this year. Also, Aaron
and DeVante are tight. The GM and the coach have
to win now. And if you look at the schedule,
there is a lot of good defenses coming up Minnesota, Buffalo, Pittsburgh,
New England, Houston. Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to be scoring

nine points. You got some defenses coming up. Some of
those teams can score, but a lot of good defenses
coming up for a team that has challenged offensively, or
if you roll over coverage the Garrett Wilson, you kind
of eliminate the offense. Let's go to the Cowboys because
Diana Russini says it's the Jets and the Cowboys. So

the general manager of the Cowboys is the owner, so
he's not under pressure. Jerry Jones actually is not impulse.
We've said this countless times. He's kind of the opposite.
He was very very impatient on Jason Garrett. He's been
very very patient with Mike McCarthy, who most fans wanted
out of the building. Jerry's not impulsive. Sometimes he's the opposite. Also,

the Dallas Cowboys aren't seeking headlines in Dallas. They're the
only story. It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter what's happening
in Dallas. There's not another NFL team, it's the Cowboys.
And they also have a star receiver in Cedee Lamb. Yes,
DeVante would help Dak be better. Nobody would. Nobody would
argue that. But Dallas needs two other things, namely a

run game. They're thirty second in the league in running
the football, so this would make them more pass centric,
more down the field reliant. They can't run the football
at all, and that's how you keep the ball away
from a Kyle Shanahan offense, or a Green Bay offense,
or a you know, presumably in Atlanta, a Baker Mayfield offense.

So that's their key. They don't have an impulsive owner.
The GM's not in the hot seat. They're not fighting
for attention, like the Jets are so all roads to
me point to the New York Jets, and here's the
air thing. I would admit yesterday I got all excited.
Jerry said that Gulf Stream to Vegas and I was
thinking about this last night. So let's say they land

Devonte Adams with Cede Lamb. You know what you are
the Miami Dolphins, a really expensive wide receiver room with
issues everywhere else? Do you want to ever be the
Miami Dolphins? The speed boat of the NFL. A lot
of flash and not really functional, so to me, at
(05:50):
the very least for the Jets. And do not overlook this.
It's good pr if the Mets and the Yankees start
reeling off W's NBA. At their media day yesterday, the
Knicks looked like a potential championship team. Giants don't appear
to be terrible. You get blown out by Minnesota, you
could be the last story by Tuesday of that week

for the next month. And the Jets have always sought
relevance as a franchise. This is an owner who spent
time in London. The team is going to London. Here
is Sam Darnold, who's on fire. Billionaires do not like
to be embarrassed. To me, the Jets feel like they're
very much in play and the Raiders again have not

had leverage much in the last twenty years. But Tom
tells go the GM and Antonio Pierce, the coach, have
been assured and I believe this. This is part of
a building process. They've been running through coaches, they've been
running through gms. They want to plan a flag here
with these guys for the next several years.

So speak of Miami.

Tua is now symptom free, but because they put him
on the IR he will not be available until week eight.

And I was thinking about Miami and how popular they
got over the last several years, and I think a
lot of it, to be honest with you, was the
head coach, Mike McDaniel. He looks like a sports reporter.
He's analytic and smart and funny at the podium. He's
built for.

The media to love.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
He got a lot of emotions and a lot of crazy looks.
He's very clever, not your typical football coach. He's smart,
a lot of bells and whistles outside the box, thinker,
so you know the media is going to fall in
love with him. But you know what, Kyle Shanahan and
Andy Reid use a lot of motion and they use

a lot of sets and they're clever, but their teams.

Are physical and tough.

And when I look at Miami, let's be honest, a
lot of flavor, but I'm never full. That's what it
feels like to me. A lot of sizzle, not a
lot of steak. Headlines flash wow, look at that? And
what are they? Two really fast wide receivers? And this

is when you know an operation cares about the wrong stuff.
So if Tua is your quarterback and I like Tua,
I wouldn't give them a huge deal with a concussion issue.
Said that before the season started, I wouldn't have done it.
But if you have Tua, okay, you've made the decision.
There's two things. You gotta have a really good backup

quarterback and a really strong offensive line. Maybe not Lions strong,
but at least, you know, like Indianapolis or Atlanta strong.
And yet the Dolphins are below average at both backup
quarterback an offensive line, but they have the most expensive
wide receiver room in the league and a coach that's

super smart at the podium. And I'm not denying Mike
McDaniel is a really bright guy. But Andy Reid and
Kyle Shanahan and mcveighar two and they love to run
the football. And when I think of the Rams Super
Bowl team and Aaron Donald in the run game, it
was physical. And Andy's teams and Spags, they're physical in

San Francisco, Debo and McCaffrey and Mason and Kittle, it's physicality.
A lot of this Miami thing, to me feels like
a house of cards, is that it's all sizzle and
all receivers and a lot of flavor, and I'm never
ever full. So it's just when Atlanta got crushed for
having two quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Michael Pennocks, how good

would Miami be right now if they drafted Michael Pennix
and some people got on Minnesota. Well, why are you
bring in Donald? You have JJ McCarthy was so going
college playing. You know who's winning these days, Minnesota and Atlanta.
You know who's not Miami. So this league and I
understand it in other sports. In baseball, you buy your trophies.

You know there's there's just a huge gap between the
haves and have nots financially in baseball. In the NBA,
I understand, it's esthetics, it's culture, it's style. I like it,
But the NFL comes down to good coach, good quarterback physicality.
For the Dolphins to sign to it, to that deal
and still have a shaky O line and be well

below average at backup quarterback tells you they care about
the wrong things we wish to a luck, he's symptom free.
He'll be back week eight, and they'll be unwatchable in
Miami until then. All Right, Jay MC, I know you
are all fired up on this DeVante Adams rumor, and
as a classic Jet fan, I know you want this

to happen.

just broke regarding the Brandon Cooks has an infection in
his knee. He's out at least this week, could be longer.
He at a procedure after the Giants game. So now
it's Ceedee Lamb and a bunch of other dudes. And
I'm sure Jerry Jones is probably on the phone today
at least considering Devonte Adams. Right.

Okay, Well, I'm gonna address that. It's interesting that story
comes out right about the time they're on the phone
with Davonte Adams. So I just talked about Miami. Are
you paying attention to the right things? Not headlines, not
flash but you signed to a bad backup quarterback situation

week o line. You care about the wrong stuff. So
we'll address that with the Cowboys specifically coming up next.

All right, big story, Davonte Adams Raiders are shoppingham Jets
and the Cowboys are out front. According to reports, A
Todd Archer just reported the Cowboys will be without Brandon
Cooks against the Steelers, maybe longer infection developed in his
right knee. So, and what the Raiders want is like
a second round pick and a player, or a third

round pick and a fifth round pick.

That's kind of where they're at.
Speaker 1 (12:16):
Devonte's expensive and there's those that believe he's a little
bit past his prime. What ebbs The Cowboys have to
take a long term approach to this, not look at
the Steeler game with Brandon Cooks. Three things to think about.
Number one, Washington and Jaden Daniels. He looks like you
got a Lamar Jackson in division now and they're not
paying him for four or five years. So the new owner,

the GM the coach, the coordinator, and Jayden Daniels watch out.
Dak went twenty four and four against the Giants in
Washington twenty four and four.

Those days are over.
Speaker 1 (12:49):
It looks like Washington could be the new Baltimore right
the right coordinator, a twitchy, accurate quarterback. So number one,
you better think big picture. The gravy trains over twenty
four and four is not happening. I even like the
Giants this year. I just think they're missing one piece.
I like the Giants previous years, last four or five,
(13:13):
they've been a mess. I don't think they are okay.
Second thing, you just paid Dack Ceedee Lamb and you're
paying Micah soon. You want to become the Miami Dolphins.
I mean you'll be absurdly top heavy. You have a
million holes. That's not what you want to do. Number three,
look at the whole NFC. These teams are potent offensively Detroit,
(13:33):
San Francisco, Green Bay, Minnesota, Seattle. I just watched thirty
eight first downs by Geno Smith. Their star receivers DK Metcalf,
they're running backs. Those are potent offenses. Dallas's defense thinks,
I look this morning, they're twenty six and points allowed,
twenty fifth in yards allowed per play. Dallas needs a
defensive stopper. Go look right now. At the NFC, it
(13:58):
is powerful offenses, and Dallas, even with Devonte Adams and
Cdee Lamb, are not gonna win shootouts. They may not
get the ball in the second half because they can't
stop the run. They're atrocious thirty second also in rushing,
so they're not gonna be a ball control team. They
can keep the ball away from a Darnald, a Jordan
Love or a Kyle Shanahan and brought Purty. They can't
(14:19):
run the football and they can't stop the run. So
to me, at the trading deadline, go get it back.
We strongly advise you to get Dereck Henry last year
at the trade deadline or in the offseason, and you didn't,
and he was only eight million. So I think Devonte
Adams for Dallas. I think he's a fun toy and
they'd be better offensively. We know Dak's always been good
(14:40):
the more weapons he has, but that start looking at
the NFC, start looking at your division. You need a
run game to keep that ball away, time of possession, dominance,
to keep it away from Jaden Daniels twice a year
and these high powered NFC offenses, and you've got to
be able to stop the run or Devonte Adams and
Cedee Lamb will be watching the game from the sidelines
as you have the ball for twenty one minutes and

somebody else has it for thirty eight. Jerry Jones on
Dallas Radio this morning talking about the Devonte Adams situation.
He's apparently on the market.

Jerry, you have talked about the importance of just these
young guys stepping up because of some of the bigger,
higher paid contracts you guys have had to have. Does
that formula have to remain when talking about making a deal.
Speaker 5 (15:24):
There's a reason why the player will be available if
you try to make a trade. There's a reason why
it's either prohibitively hi relative to what you would have
to trade to get them, And so you don't get
any wishful thinking here when you bring somebody in or
look at making a trade. Oh, let's go make a trade.

Now, Remember Davonte Adams and Antonio Peers don't get along.
He's been outspoken. Ceedee Lamb pretty much plays and delivers
and produces. He's great. You don't get a lot of
stuff beyond that. He gets upset on the sideline occasionally
in a game. It doesn't bother me much, But I
think Jerry's right on this. Jerry's not impulsive.

Issues with Jerry and the vanity and the talking constantly
and putting pressure on his coach. But he's not crazy town.
It's not like Indianapolis or you know Dan Snyder who
used to run Washington. I never you know Cleveland. I
don't feel Dallas as that. I just think they're a
small business and need an outside voice and a set

of eyes from outside the building. With the last name
not being Jones. But I don't think it solves Dallas's
core issues. They can't run it and they can't stop
the run, and the only way to beat high powered offenses.
You know, we're all looking at the Rashi Rice issue
for Kansas City. The bigger issue may be Pachecko. When
Kansas City's at their best is they are scoring, but

they're controlling both lines of scrimmage because of of strong
run game along with Mahomes, And right now it's very
hit and miss without Pachecko. So this this league gets
more offensive if you have a bad defense. There's one
way to compete, time of possession. Davonte Scores could score quickly,
but I don't think it works. J Mack with a

Start with Nick Sirianni, the embattled coach of the Eagles.
I know they're two and two, but the vibes are very,
very bad. They got destroyed in Tampa last week and
they're on the by this week. Eagles problems down the
stretch of last season seem to have like they crept over.

This season kind of carried over.
Speaker 3 (17:35):
Sirianni says, there's no sense in worrying about last season.

I can't focus on what happened last year, and that's
behind us. You know, we did the things that we
we needed to do after that season.

And this team's two and two.

You know, Saint Kwon Barkley doesn't care that that to
Eagles are me and you know what I'm saying, like,
and neither does the kai. I'm just worried about getting
the team better. You can't worry about any of those,
any of the different things right now. We're two and two,
got a lot of football in front of us, and
just put my head down and work.

In one sense, I kind of agree with him, there's
no point in looking back. Hey, it went poorly at
the end of last season.

calendar year, we're mid February and we are sinking fast

I would admit we're off to a slow start in
the first six months. Of course, the owner would go, yeah,
this is like a nineteen month trend.

We're circling the draint. You have to consider last year.
You can't because remember how much stock you put in

So when a great coach leaves, We've seen this in
college and pro football. The first part of the fall
year when Chip Kelly left Oregon, Mark Helthridge. You can
take that momentum for an extended period of time. There
have been a lot of Larry Kocher in Miami.

I mean remember that, like be took Butch Davis's talent
momentum and we were like for a year, year.

But you have to look back at any business, including
football and go okay. A really important guy left the organization,
Shane Stiken. We had a little momentum when he left
for about six games, and it is deteriorated to the
point this past weekend at one point they had zero
yards in the first half in Tampa had two fifty.

You have to pay attention to last year, Yeah, how much?

Though it can't be like all It can't be like
fifty percent of the discussion.

Last If you were undefeated right now in the offense
wasn't an issue, then last year doesn't matter. But it's
gotten worse. So it's like here's the graph straight downhill.

I mean again, I don't want to keep giving them
the benefit of the doubt. But Lane Johnson, Devandre Devin
ja Smith agent like I don't want to read too
much of that Tampa game. I think obviously, coming out
of the bye, you better show up against Cleveland or

Right. Cleveland is a bit of a mess off. I've
defended Philly forever. I don't love Sirianni, never have, but
I've defended him because I like the owner and the culture.
But man that I know it shouldn't matter that much.
But watching that game against Tampa was like, Wow, Tampa's
not a great team. Total no show it They did
not show up. So that tells me are the players

not listening? Is he not coaching? You don't see very
often in the NFL a no show. Usually if a
team has a bad first half, they fight like hell
in the second. You see that all the time in
the one o'clock window, a team doesn't show up, or
you're getting beat by a great team. Buffalo is getting
beat by Baltimore. But for Tampa to run, you have
the building. I mean, if you took Saquon out, they

did nothing well and Saquon's just our best player right.

Now, they didn't have have any options. Yeah, outside of Saqua.

Next up is that Pittsburgh Steelers three and one huge

So far, Justin Fields has started every game, but weirdly,
Tomlin is stopping just short of naming Fields QB one.

Russell Wilson still rehabbing that cap strain, the biggest cap
strain ever. It's been I guess, five weeks. Here's what
Tomlin had to say about his quarterbacks.

Seems like he's in a place where his participation is
gonna pick up some in terms of a practice setting,
a live pocket, if you will. We won't draw too
many conclusions, but we'll just start that process and we'll
comb through that day by day, evaluate his ability to
move and function and protect himself, and obviously evaluate his

level of productivity. And we'll let that be our guide
in terms of whether we get into serious consideration as
we push forward toward game time. This week.

It's interest game. So Dallas is now without a number
two receiver. This is a great defense. And I will

Fields is an amazing in the pocket, but he's better
and he can make things happen off script. So I

think in previous years, we always thought Dallas would have
a stinker, but they always bounce back. This year, I
don't think Dallas has the ability to bounce back. I
don't think they have enough good personnel, and so in
previous years, you know, generally SPA like Buffalo gets housed
by Baltimore, they'll be great this week. Or green Bay
kind of embarrasses itself first half at home against Minnesota.

Watch green Bay play very effective football this week. Generally
good teams bounce back. I said it to start the season.
I didn't them as a playoff team. I don't think
Dallas has the personnel to go and play Pittsburgh at
Pittsburgh Night game and light it up.

I was unimpressed with Dallas Thursday Night football against the
lowly Giants. It wasn't one of these like.

Don't have enough juice on either side. I'm on Pittsburgh
gear under three.

But I'll just say this, if Field stumbles and struggles
high profile game, I wouldn't be shocked if Russell Wilson
was starting UH in Week five, or I guess it
would be week six.

Do you think stuff's happening behind the scenes with like
agents and stuff.

I don't know.

I mean, you know, I speculated Miami has a quarterback
situation with two out, they're very bad.

Wouldn't Russell Wilson improve that situation?

The problem is as soon as two is back, they're
going to two.

I mean, you know that isn't been amazing to watch
where Russell was and where Russell is today. It's been
two years, two and a half years, not even two

I still remember getting all excited about his season opener
with Denver against Seattle mass. I love Denver in that game.
Oh just watching Hackett and Russell below that. He hasn't
been the same guy since, hasn't.

Final story, Colin is your guy? Baker Mayfield listen. Bucks
are three and one, Baker eight touchdowns, two picks, seventy
percent completions. It's only four games, small sample size, but
offensive coordinator Liam Cohen said the former first overall.

Pick has learned to deal with both the good times
and the bad.

I don't think he ever struggles with adversity, Right, I've
never seen him really struggle with that. It's okay, how
do we simulate and then emulate success? And I thought
on Sunday you really saw him kind of be a
sergeant in ways. He was a little surgical at times.
That is something that we have to continue to try
to challenge him with and challenge our offense with. Is

repeating success and how do we continue to do that?

So they got the Falcons tomorrow night, Thursday night football
Divisional matchup.

season opener, he faced Washington bottom five defense.

Well, now everything was everybody in the whole building with
everything was new, and it was a road game.

Yeah, so that was a layup. He had four touchdowns.

Week two against Detroit, little regression through for one hundred

They won. He was not great. Yeah, Okay.

Week three they lose to Denver. He get sacks seven times.

Baker's good, but that's unsustainable. Well, now, he was bad
on third down against Denver and Detroit. When he's good
on third down there rolling Baker is one of the
twenty best quarterbacks on the planet college in pro right now,
when Baker has time, can set his feet, has weapons.

Quinn yours, excuse me, Jaden Daniels, Well, Jayden Daniels, I
has played four games.

twenty quarterback in the planet got. I thought he got
way over his skis. I think Cleveland was a bad fit.

If he'd have gotten Demico Ryans and Slowick the coordinator,
and yeah, it would have been different. I thought he
got a little over his skis doing too many commercials.
But you know what, in the end of the day,
I said, Tampa signed him. Baker's got talent that's indisputable.
There's no doubting his death never been. I didn't say
it wasn't. I said, if I was a GM, I'm
not picking him to run my franchise in Cleveland. I

don't think he was the guy I would pick.

I said, the choices are Baker Mayfield or bow Knicks

I was thinking about this because the Jade and Daniels
story is awesome. So when I grew up as a kid,
you know, I'm in the seventies and eighties, Washington I
think back then Jack Kent Cook owned them. They were
kind of crazy, but Washington was my favorite team in
the early and the mid seventies. They had George Allen,
the late George Allen as a coach. I can go
through and name the players. It's Larry Brown, Chris Hanburger,
Pat Fisher, Dyrone, Talbert, Billy Kilmer.
Speaker 2 (29:24):
I knew all of them.
Speaker 1 (29:25):
I love that team. Long story why it was my
favorite team. I grew up near Seattle because I thought
Washington was our state, not the nation's capital.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Blah blah blah.

But it is, so I grew up with a lot
of I loved them, and then the Joe Gibbs years
and then Dan Snyder takes over and they are a
tire fire for his entire ownership. It's just even the
moments they had an RG three, it burns out quick.
This is fun. This is an incredible fan base. It
reminds me of the Warriors pre staff. You forgot how
good the Warriors were in like the seventies, and how

rabid the fan base was, and they were just sort
of irrelevant forever. Washington an unbelievably wealthy city. Their owner
now is gonna have a lot of juice. And I
like everybody, but isn't it funny? Texans Bengals, Washington get
the quarterback right, that's seventy percent. That's the root of
the tree. Seventy five percent of your issues are over.

And I got into this discussion a while back with
somebody who's an executive in the NFL that deals a
lot with personnel, and not all executive do do that.
Some are operations people, some are personnel people, and most
of my guys are personnel people. And I got into
this and I said, how do you know the guy
(30:39):
is it? And I said, my take is, there's got
to be a wow. There was never a wow with
Derek Carr. There's never been a wow with Dak Prescott.
Dak's wow is that he's smart, he's an adult, he's
a grown up, he's an excellent leader. But there's got
to be a physical wow. And you could say, well,
(31:00):
what about Josh Allen. Josh Allen was all wow. He
wasn't refined. That's why don't get too caught up on
stats on rookie quarterbacks. Most aren't ready, most aren't refined.
And it's why I've defended Kyler Murray because I saw
a lot of wow. I didn't know he didn't prep
behind the scenes, but I saw the wow. But if
you start, I was writing down the list this morning.
That's why with Daniel Jones, there's no wow. The wow
(31:23):
is his offensive coach, arm, speed, size, Will Levis sorry,
gun show and cool hair doesn't count as wow. He's
got a strong arm, but it's not Josh Allen, it's
not Mahomes. And so with Jade and Daniel. When you
watch him, regardless of his stats, and his stats are amazing,
he looks like Lamar Jackson. He's about ninety percent Lamar
(31:46):
Jackson running. And you also get accuracy that is like
Joe Burrow in college his last year, Like, what is
going on? So if not all these guys come in
refined or they get the right coach. But I said
that when I watch Sam Darnold in college USC Penn
State go to the Rose Bowl, he is making crazy
(32:07):
throws with a bad coach at Harold Ball, You're like,
whoa Carson Wentz came in, never got refined. But there
was a lot of size, arm movement.
Speaker 2 (32:16):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
And Mark Sanchez yesterday was talking about what he's seen
very early with Jaden Daniels.
Speaker 9 (32:22):
This kid has elite speed. He knows how to get
the ball out of his hands quickly. Cliff has set
him up that way. A ton of pure progressions where
he's just going one through five. Boom boom, boom boom.
I know exactly what it looks like. I know exactly
what I'm looking for. Cliff gets to go be a
coordinator again before potentially he gets to be a head
coach again down the line, and he's gotten better. He
went back to college for a year, comes back to
(32:44):
the NFL and he's ready to go. He has a
guy that can pull the trigger for him and he's
setting him up nicely. There's a lot of reasons for
his success. Did anybody expect it to be the best
in NFL history? No, of course not. That's the result.
But the process has gotten better.

And there is no no question. If you watched him
in the SEC out running SEC linebackers, there is wow
stuff here. He's just more refined early than anybody could
have guessed.

the NFL. He's five hundred. His passer rating has improved
literally every week. It's an arrow, straight up. His completion

is improved every week, literally an arrow, straight up. And Colin,
you've followed this guy for a long time.

A lot of the narratives were around him. Can't play
from the pocket, can't play on schedule. His two best
throws against the Rams, the one in the fourth quarter
to Cole Comet over the middle, the touchdown pass the
DJ Moore yep from the pocket, on time, on schedule.

He's a diva.
Speaker 10 (34:29):
He doesn't want to be coached, voted as a team captain,
The big story out of Chicago between week three and
week four was, Hey, these guys want to be coached harder.
Caleb Williams was with a group of players who went
to Shane Walter and the offensive coordinator and gave input
on what they thought wasn't going well with the offense.
So he's giving feedback, he's taking feedback, he's playing from
the pocket. He's improving each and every week. I don't
(34:51):
really see the argument against him improve.
Speaker 2 (34:53):
So I said this about the Lions.
Speaker 1 (34:55):
Everybody outside of maybe their division foes, is kind of
rooting for him. And they're a bit like the family
member who finally gets their act together, but you still
wouldn't trust them taking your kids to Disneyland. Like It's like,
I like them. They're not vaping anymore, but I've got reservations.
So I watch them Monday. Seahawks are missing their front defense,
the entire defensive front. Geno Smith throws thirty eight first
(35:19):
downs as a team. Geno Smith throws it all over
the yard, picks them apart, and I literally turn off
the TV and I thought, I'm more impressed with Seattle
losing than Detroit winning. You know this division very well,
are we all over stating because we like Dan Campbell
and the Kneecaps?
Speaker 2 (35:36):
Do you trust Detroit?
Speaker 10 (35:39):
Of course, they haven't been vaping in the parents' basement
or whatever. To continue your analogy for a long time.
They've graduated from college, they've gotten a job, they've even
been promoted at the job. Twenty twenty two last six games.
Speaker 2 (35:53):
They were good.
Speaker 10 (35:54):
Open last season. They upset the Chiefs at Arrowhead, goes
all the way through last year to the EDIT Championship
game where they lose to the Niners by three points.
Incredibly competitive game could have gone either way. They opened
this season. They're three to one. Their offensive numbers are
identical to what they were last season, and in terms
of points per game allowed, the defense is actually giving
(36:15):
up three fewer points than they did last season. So
are they gonna be carried by a great, dominant shutdown defense. No,
But they've been good for a long enough body of work,
a large enough sample that I have no reason to
believe anything about this team as a fluke. For their
first five games out in the by coming up are
on the road good teams Minnesota, Dallas, Green Bay, Houston.
(36:38):
I expect them to win multiple games in that stretch
because they've proven to me to be a Tier one
team in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Finally you're in New York now, Aaron Rodgers. It was
funny you live through this. They beat the Patriots New
England on a short week, and I mean, if the
mayor wasn't being indicted, they would have shown a ticker
tape parade. I mean they would have thrown it. The
city would have opened up instead. A week later, they
can't score a touchdown on the Broncos. And today there's
(37:05):
the Devonte Adams story. I think it works. Impulsive owner
going to London. Woody Johnson was the ambassador. His friends
will be in the box. Darnold could light him up.
Does it feel like you're in New York? I'm not
other coast three thousand miles away. Does it feel like
the Jets are a front runner here?
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Of course it does.
Speaker 10 (37:24):
I mean in Craig Carton today it got a taxi
resource that said the Jets had already made an offer.
We led breakfast ball with that this morning. So we
know that they're interested. We know they were interested last year.
We know that him and Aaron Rodgers have ready made chemistry.
There would not be an adjustment period there. Davante Adams
is still an excellent football player, so of course it
would upgrade the Jets. Like, I get why DeVante would
(37:45):
want it. I get why the Jets would want it.
I would just caution Devonte Adams a little bit though,
like you've got your money, I assume you want another ring.
The Jets right now are even money to make the playoffs,
just as likely that they make it that they miss it,
and he likes Apparently he also was interested in going
to the Saints to follow his friend Derek Carr. Right well,
following Derek Carr got you into this situation in Vegas.
(38:07):
Just going to where your friends are, like hang out
with them in Cabo in the off season.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Maybe go to.
Speaker 10 (38:13):
The better team. Maybe try to make your way to
Buffalo or Kansas City or Baltimore. I don't under he's
got he only can play with his friends. That's very
strange to me.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
It's a really good point. There is something though we
only have a minute left. Aaron can go dark very quickly.
They get house by Minnesota. Not that you'd lose Aaron,
but it would be wouldn't it be a little uplifting
to the room a little bit.

Oh you add DeVante Adams, it helps everything. But Aaron
Rodgers said a lot this week, because he always says
a lot this week, But one of the things that
he said was that was an outlier game. You know,
he's about the cadence and just in general about their performance.

No, it isn't. They are two and two.
Speaker 10 (38:54):
They played great against the Patriots, they played poorly against
the Titans in one, and they were bat against the
n and then they were bad last week against Denver,
and they were bad last year. So if I'm using
the benefit of sample size for Detroit, it's the exact
opposite for the Jets. They've played one good game out
of four this year.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
Yeah, and it was again rookie head coach, short week
for New England at home. Danny Parkins from Chicago to
FS one breakfast ball every morning and Craig Carton reporting
the Jets have already made an offer. Appreciate that, Craig,
he's connected to that organization. Danny, good seeing you, Thanks
calling anytime you bet, Danny Parkins. So I I think

it fits in New York. I don't necessarily think it
makes them a super Bowl team. But with Dallas. They
have so many issues. Beyond that, the Jets do have
a run game. NTT Hackett hopefully can draw up some
plays because they didn't have much of one against Denver.

is not fond of Davante Adams, which was known in
the building. Now it's known outside the building. So that's
not a good move by the Raiders. But according to
Diana Russini, the Jets and the Cowboys, your Jets and
Fox's Cowboys, Jerry Jones Cowboys are talking. So let's start
with the premise of this. The Raiders have leverage their

coach and their GM or brand new Mark Davis. There's
no urgency. I was told to win today. That helps
them Again, Antonio Pierce messing around on social media not smart,
stay out of that stuff. Lets everybody in the league new.
What the Raiders privately new is DeVante Adams and Antonio

Piers regardless of if they denied or not, they're not tight.
So let's start with the Jets impulsive owner. That's something
team needs a boost. Offensively. They scored nine points against
Denver at home. And don't overlook this. The Mets are
in the playoffs, the Yankees are in the playoffs. The

Knicks just made a huge trade. The Jets have always
been a low self esteem sports franchise. They love relevance.
Consider this Aaron's forty. The rest of this year and
next year, that's the window. Consider this, They're facing ex
Jet Sam Darnold in a standalone game. Everybody's watching. Consider this.
(02:52):
Wood He Johnson, the owner, former ambassador to the UK
appointed by Trump. All his friends.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
Will be in the box with Woody Johnson.
Speaker 1 (03:06):
Billionaires do not like to be embarrassed, and Minnesota has
been embarrassing a lot of teams this year. Also, Aaron
and DeVante are tight. The GM and the coach have
to win now. And if you look at the schedule,
there is a lot of good defenses coming up Minnesota, Buffalo, Pittsburgh,
New England, Houston. Aaron Rodgers doesn't want to be scoring
(03:30):
nine points. You got some defenses coming up. Some of
those teams can score, but a lot of good defenses
coming up for a team that has challenged offensively, or
if you roll over coverage the Garrett Wilson, you kind
of eliminate the offense. Let's go to the Cowboys because
Diana Russini says it's the Jets and the Cowboys. So
(03:51):
the general manager of the Cowboys is the owner, so
he's not under pressure. Jerry Jones actually is not impulse.
We've said this countless times. He's kind of the opposite.
He was very very impatient on Jason Garrett. He's been
very very patient with Mike McCarthy, who most fans wanted
out of the building. Jerry's not impulsive. Sometimes he's the opposite. Also,
(04:15):
the Dallas Cowboys aren't seeking headlines in Dallas. They're the
only story. It doesn't matter, it doesn't matter what's happening
in Dallas. There's not another NFL team, it's the Cowboys.
And they also have a star receiver in Cedee Lamb. Yes,
DeVante would help Dak be better. Nobody would. Nobody would
argue that. But Dallas needs two other things, namely a
(04:38):
run game. They're thirty second in the league in running
the football, so this would make them more pass centric,
more down the field reliant. They can't run the football
at all, and that's how you keep the ball away
from a Kyle Shanahan offense, or a Green Bay offense,
or a you know, presumably in Atlanta, a Baker Mayfield offense.

So that's their key. They don't have an impulsive owner.
The GM's not in the hot seat. They're not fighting
for attention, like the Jets are so all roads to
me point to the New York Jets, and here's the
air thing. I would admit yesterday I got all excited.
Jerry said that Gulf Stream to Vegas and I was
thinking about this last night. So let's say they land

Devonte Adams with Cede Lamb. You know what you are
the Miami Dolphins, a really expensive wide receiver room with
issues everywhere else? Do you want to ever be the
Miami Dolphins? The speed boat of the NFL. A lot
of flash and not really functional, so to me, at
(05:50):
the very least for the Jets. And do not overlook this.
It's good pr if the Mets and the Yankees start
reeling off W's NBA. At their media day yesterday, the
Knicks looked like a potential championship team. Giants don't appear
to be terrible. You get blown out by Minnesota, you
could be the last story by Tuesday of that week
(06:11):
for the next month. And the Jets have always sought
relevance as a franchise. This is an owner who spent
time in London. The team is going to London. Here
is Sam Darnold, who's on fire. Billionaires do not like
to be embarrassed. To me, the Jets feel like they're
very much in play and the Raiders again have not
(06:33):
had leverage much in the last twenty years. But Tom
tells go the GM and Antonio Pierce, the coach, have
been assured and I believe this. This is part of
a building process. They've been running through coaches, they've been
running through gms. They want to plan a flag here
with these guys for the next several years.

So speak of Miami.

Tua is now symptom free, but because they put him
on the IR he will not be available until week eight.
Speaker 2 (07:05):
That's how it works. But he's symptom free.

And I was thinking about Miami and how popular they
got over the last several years, and I think a
lot of it, to be honest with you, was the
head coach, Mike McDaniel. He looks like a sports reporter.
He's analytic and smart and funny at the podium. He's
built for.

The media to love.
Speaker 1 (07:30):
He got a lot of emotions and a lot of crazy looks.
He's very clever, not your typical football coach. He's smart,
a lot of bells and whistles outside the box, thinker,
so you know the media is going to fall in
love with him. But you know what, Kyle Shanahan and
Andy Reid use a lot of motion and they use
(07:51):
a lot of sets and they're clever, but their teams.
Speaker 2 (07:56):
Are physical and tough.
Speaker 1 (08:00):
And when I look at Miami, let's be honest, a
lot of flavor, but I'm never full. That's what it
feels like to me. A lot of sizzle, not a
lot of steak. Headlines flash wow, look at that? And
what are they? Two really fast wide receivers? And this
(08:21):
is when you know an operation cares about the wrong stuff.
So if Tua is your quarterback and I like Tua,
I wouldn't give them a huge deal with a concussion issue.
Said that before the season started, I wouldn't have done it.
But if you have Tua, okay, you've made the decision.
There's two things. You gotta have a really good backup
(08:42):
quarterback and a really strong offensive line. Maybe not Lions strong,
but at least, you know, like Indianapolis or Atlanta strong.
And yet the Dolphins are below average at both backup
quarterback an offensive line, but they have the most expensive
wide receiver room in the league and a coach that's
(09:03):
super smart at the podium. And I'm not denying Mike
McDaniel is a really bright guy. But Andy Reid and
Kyle Shanahan and mcveighar two and they love to run
the football. And when I think of the Rams Super
Bowl team and Aaron Donald in the run game, it
was physical. And Andy's teams and Spags, they're physical in
(09:24):
San Francisco, Debo and McCaffrey and Mason and Kittle, it's physicality.
A lot of this Miami thing, to me feels like
a house of cards, is that it's all sizzle and
all receivers and a lot of flavor, and I'm never
ever full. So it's just when Atlanta got crushed for
having two quarterbacks Kirk Cousins and Michael Pennocks, how good
(09:47):
would Miami be right now if they drafted Michael Pennix
and some people got on Minnesota. Well, why are you
bring in Donald? You have JJ McCarthy was so going
college playing. You know who's winning these days, Minnesota and Atlanta.
You know who's not Miami. So this league and I
understand it in other sports. In baseball, you buy your trophies.
(10:10):
You know there's there's just a huge gap between the
haves and have nots financially in baseball. In the NBA,
I understand, it's esthetics, it's culture, it's style. I like it,
But the NFL comes down to good coach, good quarterback physicality.
For the Dolphins to sign to it, to that deal
and still have a shaky O line and be well
(10:32):
below average at backup quarterback tells you they care about
the wrong things we wish to a luck, he's symptom free.
He'll be back week eight, and they'll be unwatchable in
Miami until then. All Right, Jay MC, I know you
are all fired up on this DeVante Adams rumor, and
as a classic Jet fan, I know you want this

to happen.

just broke regarding the Brandon Cooks has an infection in

at least considering Devonte Adams. Right.

and the Cowboys are out front. According to reports, A
Todd Archer just reported the Cowboys will be without Brandon
Cooks against the Steelers, maybe longer infection developed in his
right knee. So, and what the Raiders want is like
a second round pick and a player, or a third

Devonte's expensive and there's those that believe he's a little
bit past his prime. What ebbs The Cowboys have to
take a long term approach to this, not look at

got a Lamar Jackson in division now and they're not
paying him for four or five years. So the new owner,

It looks like Washington could be the new Baltimore right
the right coordinator, a twitchy, accurate quarterback. So number one,
you better think big picture. The gravy trains over twenty
four and four is not happening. I even like the
Giants this year. I just think they're missing one piece.
I like the Giants previous years, last four or five,

they've been a mess. I don't think they are okay.
Second thing, you just paid Dack Ceedee Lamb and you're
paying Micah soon. You want to become the Miami Dolphins.
I mean you'll be absurdly top heavy. You have a
million holes. That's not what you want to do. Number three,
look at the whole NFC. These teams are potent offensively Detroit,
(13:33):
San Francisco, Green Bay, Minnesota, Seattle. I just watched thirty
eight first downs by Geno Smith. Their star receivers DK Metcalf,
they're running backs. Those are potent offenses. Dallas's defense thinks,
I look this morning, they're twenty six and points allowed,
twenty fifth in yards allowed per play. Dallas needs a
defensive stopper. Go look right now. At the NFC, it
(13:58):
is powerful offenses, and Dallas, even with Devonte Adams and
Cdee Lamb, are not gonna win shootouts. They may not
get the ball in the second half because they can't
stop the run. They're atrocious thirty second also in rushing,
so they're not gonna be a ball control team. They
can keep the ball away from a Darnald, a Jordan
Love or a Kyle Shanahan and brought Purty. They can't
(14:19):
run the football and they can't stop the run. So
to me, at the trading deadline, go get it back.
We strongly advise you to get Dereck Henry last year
at the trade deadline or in the offseason, and you didn't,
and he was only eight million. So I think Devonte
Adams for Dallas. I think he's a fun toy and
they'd be better offensively. We know Dak's always been good

the more weapons he has, but that start looking at
the NFC, start looking at your division. You need a
run game to keep that ball away, time of possession, dominance,
to keep it away from Jaden Daniels twice a year
and these high powered NFC offenses, and you've got to
be able to stop the run or Devonte Adams and
Cedee Lamb will be watching the game from the sidelines
as you have the ball for twenty one minutes and

somebody else has it for thirty eight. Jerry Jones on
Dallas Radio this morning talking about the Devonte Adams situation.
He's apparently on the market.

Jerry, you have talked about the importance of just these
young guys stepping up because of some of the bigger,
higher paid contracts you guys have had to have. Does
that formula have to remain when talking about making a deal.

it's either prohibitively hi relative to what you would have
to trade to get them, And so you don't get

of eyes from outside the building. With the last name
not being Jones. But I don't think it solves Dallas's
core issues. They can't run it and they can't stop

for Kansas City. The bigger issue may be Pachecko. When
Kansas City's at their best is they are scoring, but

they're controlling both lines of scrimmage because of of strong
run game along with Mahomes, And right now it's very
hit and miss without Pachecko. So this this league gets
more offensive if you have a bad defense. There's one
way to compete, time of possession. Davonte Scores could score quickly,

has played four games.

I was thinking about this because the Jade and Daniels
story is awesome. So when I grew up as a kid,
you know, I'm in the seventies and eighties, Washington I
think back then Jack Kent Cook owned them. They were
kind of crazy, but Washington was my favorite team in
the early and the mid seventies. They had George Allen,
the late George Allen as a coach. I can go
through and name the players. It's Larry Brown, Chris Hanburger,
Pat Fisher, Dyrone, Talbert, Billy Kilmer.

I knew all of them.

I love that team. Long story why it was my
favorite team. I grew up near Seattle because I thought
Washington was our state, not the nation's capital.

But it is, so I grew up with a lot
of I loved them, and then the Joe Gibbs years
and then Dan Snyder takes over and they are a
tire fire for his entire ownership. It's just even the

This is fun. This is an incredible fan base. It
reminds me of the Warriors pre staff. You forgot how
good the Warriors were in like the seventies, and how

rabid the fan base was, and they were just sort
of irrelevant forever. Washington an unbelievably wealthy city. Their owner
now is gonna have a lot of juice. And I
like everybody, but isn't it funny? Texans Bengals, Washington get
the quarterback right, that's seventy percent. That's the root of
the tree. Seventy five percent of your issues are over.

And I got into this discussion a while back with
somebody who's an executive in the NFL that deals a
lot with personnel, and not all executive do do that.
Some are operations people, some are personnel people, and most
of my guys are personnel people. And I got into
this and I said, how do you know the guy

is it? And I said, my take is, there's got
to be a wow. There was never a wow with
Derek Carr. There's never been a wow with Dak Prescott.
Dak's wow is that he's smart, he's an adult, he's
a grown up, he's an excellent leader. But there's got
to be a physical wow. And you could say, well,

what about Josh Allen. Josh Allen was all wow. He
wasn't refined. That's why don't get too caught up on
stats on rookie quarterbacks. Most aren't ready, most aren't refined.
And it's why I've defended Kyler Murray because I saw
a lot of wow. I didn't know he didn't prep
behind the scenes, but I saw the wow. But if
you start, I was writing down the list this morning.
That's why with Daniel Jones, there's no wow. The wow
(31:23):
is his offensive coach, arm, speed, size, Will Levis sorry,
gun show and cool hair doesn't count as wow. He's
got a strong arm, but it's not Josh Allen, it's
not Mahomes. And so with Jade and Daniel. When you
watch him, regardless of his stats, and his stats are amazing,
he looks like Lamar Jackson. He's about ninety percent Lamar

Jackson running. And you also get accuracy that is like
Joe Burrow in college his last year, Like, what is
going on? So if not all these guys come in
refined or they get the right coach. But I said
that when I watch Sam Darnold in college USC Penn
State go to the Rose Bowl, he is making crazy

throws with a bad coach at Harold Ball, You're like,
whoa Carson Wentz came in, never got refined. But there
was a lot of size, arm movement.

And Mark Sanchez yesterday was talking about what he's seen
very early with Jaden Daniels.

This kid has elite speed. He knows how to get
the ball out of his hands quickly. Cliff has set
him up that way. A ton of pure progressions where
he's just going one through five. Boom boom, boom boom.
I know exactly what it looks like. I know exactly
what I'm looking for. Cliff gets to go be a
coordinator again before potentially he gets to be a head
coach again down the line, and he's gotten better. He
went back to college for a year, comes back to
(32:44):
the NFL and he's ready to go. He has a
guy that can pull the trigger for him and he's
setting him up nicely. There's a lot of reasons for
his success. Did anybody expect it to be the best
in NFL history? No, of course not. That's the result.
But the process has gotten better.

And there is no no question. If you watched him
in the SEC out running SEC linebackers, there is wow
stuff here. He's just more refined early than anybody could
have guessed.

He doesn't want to be coached, voted as a team captain,
The big story out of Chicago between week three and

Caleb Williams was with a group of players who went
to Shane Walter and the offensive coordinator and gave input
on what they thought wasn't going well with the offense.
So he's giving feedback, he's taking feedback, he's playing from
the pocket. He's improving each and every week. I don't

really see the argument against him improve.

Everybody outside of maybe their division foes, is kind of
rooting for him. And they're a bit like the family
member who finally gets their act together, but you still

I like them. They're not vaping anymore, but I've got reservations.
So I watch them Monday. Seahawks are missing their front defense,
the entire defensive front. Geno Smith throws thirty eight first

downs as a team. Geno Smith throws it all over
the yard, picks them apart, and I literally turn off
the TV and I thought, I'm more impressed with Seattle
losing than Detroit winning. You know this division very well,

Open last season. They upset the Chiefs at Arrowhead, goes
all the way through last year to the EDIT Championship
game where they lose to the Niners by three points.
Incredibly competitive game could have gone either way. They opened
this season. They're three to one. Their offensive numbers are
identical to what they were last season, and in terms
of points per game allowed, the defense is actually giving

up three fewer points than they did last season. So
are they gonna be carried by a great, dominant shutdown defense. No,
But they've been good for a long enough body of work,
a large enough sample that I have no reason to
believe anything about this team as a fluke. For their
first five games out in the by coming up are
on the road good teams Minnesota, Dallas, Green Bay, Houston.
(36:38):
I expect them to win multiple games in that stretch
because they've proven to me to be a Tier one
team in the NFL.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Finally you're in New York now, Aaron Rodgers. It was
funny you live through this. They beat the Patriots New
England on a short week, and I mean, if the
mayor wasn't being indicted, they would have shown a ticker
tape parade. I mean they would have thrown it. The
city would have opened up instead. A week later, they
can't score a touchdown on the Broncos. And today there's
(37:05):
the Devonte Adams story. I think it works. Impulsive owner
going to London. Woody Johnson was the ambassador. His friends
will be in the box. Darnold could light him up.
Does it feel like you're in New York? I'm not
other coast three thousand miles away. Does it feel like
the Jets are a front runner here?
Speaker 2 (37:23):
Of course it does.
Speaker 10 (37:24):
I mean in Craig Carton today it got a taxi
resource that said the Jets had already made an offer.
We led breakfast ball with that this morning. So we
know that they're interested. We know they were interested last year.
We know that him and Aaron Rodgers have ready made chemistry.
There would not be an adjustment period there. Davante Adams
is still an excellent football player, so of course it
would upgrade the Jets. Like, I get why DeVante would
(37:45):
want it. I get why the Jets would want it.
I would just caution Devonte Adams a little bit though,
like you've got your money, I assume you want another ring.
The Jets right now are even money to make the playoffs,
just as likely that they make it that they miss it,
and he likes Apparently he also was interested in going
to the Saints to follow his friend Derek Carr. Right well,
following Derek Carr got you into this situation in Vegas.
(38:07):
Just going to where your friends are, like hang out
with them in Cabo in the off season.
Speaker 2 (38:12):
Maybe go to.
Speaker 10 (38:13):
The better team. Maybe try to make your way to
Buffalo or Kansas City or Baltimore. I don't under he's
got he only can play with his friends. That's very
strange to me.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
It's a really good point. There is something though we
only have a minute left. Aaron can go dark very quickly.
They get house by Minnesota. Not that you'd lose Aaron,
but it would be wouldn't it be a little uplifting
to the room a little bit.
Speaker 10 (38:39):
Oh you add DeVante Adams, it helps everything. But Aaron
Rodgers said a lot this week, because he always says
a lot this week, But one of the things that
he said was that was an outlier game. You know,
he's about the cadence and just in general about their performance.
Speaker 2 (38:51):
No, it isn't. They are two and two.
Speaker 10 (38:54):
They played great against the Patriots, they played poorly against
the Titans in one, and they were bat against the
n and then they were bad last week against Denver,
and they were bad last year. So if I'm using
the benefit of sample size for Detroit, it's the exact
opposite for the Jets. They've played one good game out
of four this year.
Speaker 1 (39:12):
Yeah, and it was again rookie head coach, short week
for New England at home. Danny Parkins from Chicago to
FS one breakfast ball every morning and Craig Carton reporting
the Jets have already made an offer. Appreciate that, Craig,
he's connected to that organization. Danny, good seeing you, Thanks
calling anytime you bet, Danny Parkins. So I I think
(39:35):
it fits in New York. I don't necessarily think it
makes them a super Bowl team. But with Dallas. They
have so many issues. Beyond that, the Jets do have
a run game. NTT Hackett hopefully can draw up some
plays because they didn't have much of one against Denver.
I do think he makes the Jets better and he
makes Aaron happier. Our two next
